why is this pizza soooo good? the thin crust is crisppity cunchily perfect!!! SO GOOD! eat it with the jummy red french dressing mmmmm.... the salad is good when u mix the white italian and french dressing together.

Never had a bad experience with the service or anything. Staff is friendly. My issue is with the pizza, just not my style. This place has a predominantly local following i.e. you only really like this food if you grew up on it. I'm a Chicago transplant so I prefer the deep dish or stuffed style of pizza. Monicals is ultra thin which can be OK if flavorful, but the sauce is lackluster and sparing, the cheese is greasy, and the crust too thin to possess any discernible flavor. It basically reminds me of what a Tombstone pizza would be if ate fresh and never fozen. A telltale sign of the pizza's shortcomings: everyone raves how good it is when topped with french dressing... A truly good pizza would not need such an outlandish addition to give it good flavor. The dressing itself is very good , but that's like saying you don't like a places chili, but they have an excellent butternut squash puree that they put on it. Whoop-dee-doo and just as mismatched.

Expensive! This pizza isn't all that spectacular. Thin crust and tastes great, but holy crap did they up the price. One thing, as others have mentioned, that I highly recommend is their red dressing!

I think you had to have grown up around one of these to actually like it as an adult. I give it 2 stars because kids do like it. The pizza is terribly juvenile tasting, and the toppings are rarely cooked properly. The crust is comparable to a generic brand frozen pizza. However, staff has always been friendly and there are always tons of coupons so it's OK to take the kids for dinner....just not if you want pizza.

I love you, Monical's! Like Justin said, put the red salad dressing on the pizza. It's almost mandatory. I just bought another bottle of the stuff to bring back to the city. The breadsticks and salad are yummy, too. I grew up on Monical's and now have to eat it almost every time I go back home. But only with the sweet red salad dressing on the side.

I recently went to this location with my girlfriend and her mom, only because the other location was so crowded. I'm not a big thin crust fan, but it's pizza so I always have an open mind about it. Chicago is famous for their pizza, and I can only assume the reason this place is successful and is a chain is because of little kids and budget meals. When we were seated in a booth, the seats had lettuce on them, no doubt from a hurried cleaning job as busy as it was. The waitress was nice enough, but our dinnerware and plates had to be exchanged because there was food on them. We got the 'Family Pleaser' which is apparently the 'thing' to get. There was hardly anything pleasing about it. The salad was a translucent assortment of "lettuce". Their special sauce was nothing more than French dressing that was too sweet for my taste. Finally the pizza arrived. Really I was most impressed by the pizza. It was thin (meh) but the toppings and sauce combined to make a pizza that for this thin crust hater was really quite good. Overall the experience was mediocre at best. Next time, if they have delivery or carryout I'd much prefer that. For the price and nostalgia (if Monical's was what you grew up with) this place is alright. But for the average guest they'll find quality and service definitely lacking.

Of all the 100's of pizzas I've tried, Monicals is top 10. They make the thin crust that never gets in the way of the toppings and compliments the pallet by providing a texture and crispness in every bite. Sad they let the old Bradley location go, as it was the very best atmosphere. This one's a little bland...need more room dividers and stuff to do and see to make it a top destination in Kankakee. Adding WiFi wouldn't hurt either. Oh, and desserts, too.

This is my absolute favorite pizza! I moved out of the area and I have been dreaming of this pizza. If only they would open some locations Chicago, they would have a huge following of Peoria, Kankakee, & Champaign transplants. This pizza is ultra thin, crispy with a spicy sauce. Since I grew up in Chicago and only lived in Kankakee area for 10 years, I didn't grow up putting Sweet-N-Tart dressing on the pizza. It's not my thing. I have 2 favorite pizzas here, either a sausage pizza or their Happy Heart pizza. Whenever I would have the Happy Heart pizza delivered, the driver would always comment how good it smelled!

I agree the pizza tastes better with either dressing drizzled on top. I also understand the sentimental value of after high school football game outings etc. But can't you see? This is the crux of the problem. Fair people of Kankakee, I beseech you, scale the imaginary walls that imprison your perception of quality pizza. You don't have to go far, Sammy's, Aurelio's. But you can if you want to, Lou Malnati's, Gino's, Due's etc. Be honest, it's ok. Monical's doesn't fair well in comparison. Not as tasty and kind of pricey for what you get. It's ok to slop that dressing on it to somehow infuse flavor into it. I get it. Lets call it something else besides pizza then and I'm on your team. I ordered carry out once and halfway into my eighth piece I realized that the cheese melted to the cardboard container. I assure you with enough dressing you can't tell the difference. Unfortunately for me my kids love it. Service is ok blah blah blah.

I'm a slaaaaave for you, Monicals Pizza. I can't deny it. I'm not trying to hide it, baby. It's been almost a year and a half since I professed my Yelp love for Monicals. Proud to say that nothing's changed. This isn't for those people out there that want to sit around and talk about how you must eat deep dish when you live in/near Chicago. Oh no no no. This is for a different type of people. This is for the people that have an utmost respect and appreciation for a good thin crust pizza. I can never get enough of their Family Pleaser. Salad, a 2 liter and a medium pizza. It's the perfect amount of food and oh so good. (You can also find coupons on their Facebook page, in your mail if you're local or on their website.) Us locals will recommend that you get some of the sweet red salad dressing and the creamy italian dressing and mix them. That's how us Kankakeeans roll. Did I mention I love their thin-crust pizza? It is sooooooooooo gooooooood. They put some kind of Italian spices on top of it to make it unique to only Monicals. I get lots of different toppings but tonight it was pepperoni and green olives. I was working in the area and hungry and this was the place near me. I had the thin vegetarian pizza and it was ok nothing to rave about. I'm from Chicago "Pizza Capital" so of course I'm judging what I just ate based on my pizza experiences in the Windy City. One thing good I can say is that the people are nice and friendly and the crust is thin to a perfection. I think the sauce need some major work and they should add more cheese. My opinion.

love us some monicals pizza! we strolled in here a little before they closed they were cool about it though. we didnt feel bad cause a family of 5 larrrrrge humans strolled in after us. mmmm ranch pizza and mmmm breadsticks with all 3 dipping sauces. dip the regular pizza (not ranch) in the red french sauce for a tasty zing

Greasy thin crust pizza. Nothing more, nothing less. The only people that like this pizza are those that grew up in this area eating it as kids. I'd much rather have pizza from one of the other joints in this town.

One of my favorite pizzas. I always get one when I'm home. Now I am a local, so yes I have acquired the taste for it since I was a child. Still, I think most would agree it is a one of a kind pizza.

It's marginal pizza and the pasta dishes are cheap imitations of the originals. Not inexpensive either. The pizza often has a "burnt" taste because of the cornmeal that is applied to the bottom of the crust. Maybe that's why everyone in this po-dunk town loves to put the french dressing on the pizza?

Unremarkable, but okay pizza. Crust was thin and crispy (which I like), but the taste seemed rather bland. Perhaps it was the sauce, of which there wasn't very much, or the blend of cheeses? Definitely a family restaurant, with lots of kids. Friendly and attentive staff, fairly nice decor.
