Have always loved the chicken chunks, jojos (fried potato wedges), and rice combo with mild sauce. In the past, I've brought this to my in laws in the city and they raved about the food. And their chicken livers are the best I have ever eaten. The reason for not giving 5 stars? This time my food was cold and tasted like it had been sitting out for awhile. I ordered it fresh on Memorial Day and the place was empty. I'm giving them a pass because it was a holiday.

I got the Chicken and Waffle for $4.99. How does this place even make any money with that low price? The picture they have showing it makes it look like there's only going to be a few bites of chicken, but it's misleading...you get a pretty solid amount of chicken. The chicken was really good. The waffle was good. My only complaint is that this place is too far from my house! I wish I could eat here every week.

Over the last few months, this has become my favorite place to eat. The chicken chunks are great! So big and tender. Always have to get a side of the mac & cheese bites to go with the chunks. Gave the gizards a shot today, not bad. My father-in-law had them and said they were the best he's ever had.....and he's from the south. So many good things to try here, and prices are unbelievably low! Stop in and enjoy!

Love at first bite, the best fried chicken that I've had in a long time. I tried the spicy and it was seasoned to perfection. The breading was light and crunchy. The chicken was moist, tender and flavorful. The rice was robust, firm and perfectly cooked. The spices and texture of the rice tantalized every taste bud. The biscuits were excellent too. There were many other items on the menu that looked very appealing. I'll definitely stop in again the next time I'm in Joliet.

Who ever thought Jury duty could be fun? And actually make want to COME BACK to downtown Joliet?!?! WOW! Simply put, Chicken-N-Spice is the spot. They make hands down the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. Their breading is flaky, slightly spicy, and wonderfully crunchy. The chunks are full of juicy white meat, but next time I'd like to get some bone in so I can dry their dark meat. The sides are all awesome too. Love their dirty rice, biscuits are pretty solid, coleslaw is a must, and the hot sauce is to be put all over DAT CHICKEN! Not looking forward to the next time I have to visit downtown Joliet again, but I am looking forward to getting lunch their again.

Quite frankly, it's worth going out of the way for. I'm looking forward to the next time I'm anywhere close.

I really didn't like the chicken. I had the bone in chicken and it was so so bland. The side of fries were old and dried out. Tried a breakfast biscuit. That was a mistake. Very dry. I didn't care for this place. Popeyes is better. Maybe I should have just got the chicken chunks. It seems people only like it because they grew up around it. The fried chicken has no taste to it at all. No seasoning just dried out chicken. As I said the biscuit was dry as hell too. Like biting into a breaded aspirin. The best thing about this place was the cookies which are pre made.

I have been eating here ever since I was a little kid. I love the chicken chunks with sweet n sour sauce. The wedges are exceptional when they are hot and fresh. Like the biscuit when it is fresh too. The chocolate chip cookies are so good! They melt in your mouth. Yummy!! Also try the George and Eddie! A must for lunch when in you're in between work, school or wherever. Around $8. Who can beat it? Cookies for dessert? Funners!! Try Chicken and Spice today! You won't regret it! Love it!!;)

Went here on 11/6/13. I had ordered the 3 piece chicken breast chunk combo. The chicken was quite tasty & juicy & the skin crispy. Each of the pieces were pretty large. For the side orders I had the fries & mashed potatoes. The fries tasted like they were already seasoned & the mashed potatoes were pretty decent. What I did not like is the fact that they do not have real butter. This is a major letdown at any restaurant. There is no substitute for real butter. The other was while I was eating I had overheard a number of the workers talking saying that if the manager does not like the way they do things that a bunch of them would get up & leave. I felt this was very unprofessional & tasteless.

If you want chicken.... there's no where else within at least a 200 mile radius worth even thinking about eating at. Go on...make the drive...you won't regret it. I agree with the religious chicken comment. It's really ridiculous.
(5)
Michael S.
The 3 chunk combo is plenty of food and a great deal. The chunks are very good, but not very spicy. I am glad I got the hot sauce as my dipping choice. I got the wedges and mac and cheese bites as my sides. The mac and cheese bites are out of this world! I think they use pepper jack cheese in them. They were so good, I would go back just for them. The place is sort of a dive, but I felt they stayed on top of keeping the tables clean. I will be going back the next time I have jury duty.

A coworker of mine mentioned this place and then surprised me with some for lunch. It was definitely all she raved about and more. The chicken was definitely flavorful and finger licking good. Wish it was closer to home!

Speaking from someone who loves some Harold's chicken in the city... My mom lives in Joliet, and she loves this place. She mentioned it, and I came on yelp to read the reviews. They are stellar! Everyone seems to love these "Chicken chunks". They call the chickens Religious because they are so "good". Of course, being the foodie that I am, I just couldn't pass this place up before I'm no longer a 10 min drive away. As a result, my sister and I needed dinner last night, so I decided on this place. Of course, when you walk in, you're like, this place is FRILL-LESS! I'm totally okay with that. I like good food. If I don't get he scenery, then fine, as long as the food is good. Why waste money on frilly stuff when you can devote that money to good, fresh ingredients?? ANYWHO, to the food. We ordered two Benny Hills, or John and Freddye, or whatever the hell they are called. It comes with 3 chicken chunks, rice, wedges and a drink for 6.99. I get home, pretty excited about this food. Gave my sister her share, and I.WENT.IN.... I must say, I was UNDERWHELMED! It taste like, Chicken.... There's absolutely NOTHING special about this chicken. It's just chicken. I can assure you, the chickens were not religious chickens prior to their butchering. I'm sure they were sinner chickens. My sister like everything but the rice. I enjoyed the rice. I'm glad to say I tried this place, but no way, will I ever be back.

We headed to this place after a joliet slammers game. We ordered chicken chunks, biscuits, and potato wedges. The chicken is outstanding. Very crunchy, tender, and flavorful. The sauce was a fun, compliment. The chicken chunks ARE the size of your fist. We didn't catch on to that fact until AFTER we ordered a 20 piece for our family. The most that I could eat would have been three on a really good day. No son, These are no chicken nuggets! The potato wedges and biscuits were good, but the chicken is the star of the show. This place is a little "divey", so don't expect that and you will be fine. The prices are also very reasonable.

Holy chicken chunks. I'm serious. I'm pretty certain they're blessed, or made from religious chickens. Amazing, for under 8 bucks I got a delicious biscuit, two pounds of potato wedges, and delicious chunks of chicken breast, along-side my LARGE drink. I mean...48oz large. HUGE drink. WITH a free refil! amazing. From what I hear from my friend who took me to the joint, don't try to go anywhere around lunch time. Packed beyond capacity, is the term that got thrown around. We luckily went at about 8pm, and it was not busy, a few groups came and went, and a few pickups. Good environment, great service, and amazing deal. If you're in Joliet, or even a town or two away, take the detour!

This is TOP NOTCH..can' be beat fried chicken. The food is great and the staff is equally great. Once you get past the skitchiness of the clientele and area, it is awesome.

I love Chick N Spice but am torn between 3 or 4 stars. The chicken chunks are one of my favorites and I try to have lunch there 1-2 times a month. Yes this place is sort if a legend in downtown Joliet but it does have it's issues. You know how sometimes the pop at a restaurant has a weird taste? That's because of the city water they are injecting into the flavored syrup. When the same flavored pop at the restaurant down the street tastes fine, you have to imagine that with filtration this could be fixed. The place is clean but a little on the decline, it probably hasn't been refreshed/remodeled in some years. As I have already said, I love their chicken chunks and will continue to order them but when your done eating you can feel the grease in your throat. I don't feel that at other places when I have chicken. The lady who owns the place is always at the counter and very friendly just as the rest of the staff. I hope Chicken N Spice is around for a long time but I think they need one of those reality shows to come in. One of those shows where the show host comes in and realigns their businesses priorities and fixes the place up. Probably a major reason they look to still do fairly well is the total lack of places to eat in downtown Joliet. If they had more competition they may have problems. Please don't ever close or leave but I think you have a lot of room for improvement. I think I just talked myself into 3 stars.

Okay, it's time for a confession. I try to stick to a vegetarian diet. I honestly feel better physically when I'm not eating meat, and for the most part I don't miss it. That said...sometimes a girl has to give in to her desires. For me, food-wise, that usually means fried chicken or burgers. If I'm going to indulge my lust for fried chicken, then Chicken-N-Spice's chicken chunks are the food on which to do it. These chicken nuggets are half the size of a fist and made from all white meat chicken. They're fried to a delicious and abundant crispiness and are the stuff of dreams when dripped in buffalo sauce. Today was the first time I've tried the coleslaw and dirty rice and both of those were amazing too. Bless me, Father, for I have sinned...and I loved every bite of it.

I swear they must put crack in it! You just can't stop eating it! It has to be the best chicken in the whole damn state. Beats White Fence Farm, Chicken Basket and Harold's by a long shot (OK, I do have a special fondness for Harold's-deliciously unhealthy). I miss living in Joliet and being close by. Let me restate that: I miss being close by, but I certainly do NOT miss living in Joliet. Ugh!

** This place is an absolute DUMP - Disgusting!!!! ** Having heard all the hype, and having been almost next door for a charity event today, I decided to stop for some 'chicken chunks'. Everyone said this place is the best, so despite the grungy look of the place and the sign that was only half lit, I decided to enter. Ugh. Dirty, dingy.....just a dump. I ordered some chicken chunks and potato wedges. Well, what a disappointment. Potato wedge were cold. Once I got home, I decided to 're-heat the potatoes and chicken in the toaster over. OK, this helped. The chunks were OK, until I bit into a bone in one of them, then another. So, 5 chunks......2 bones. You could give me a free gift certificate and I'd never go back.

Mike R.
The location and store itself leaves a bit to desired, but the food is really nothing short of perfection. The chunks are unlike any style I've had, delicious, and have just the right amount of spice. The jo-jos are great and they have the best macaroni and cheese bites I've tried. The cheap prices (and always tossing an extra chunk in an order) are definitely a perk as well.

Two words. Chicken chunks. I'm addicted and absolutely love it. Hope they're here forever. Local legend!

New to the area and from the city where Harold's and Uncle Remus' Chicken is popular we were delighted to find a great place that was reasonable and tasty. We felt a tad rushed to make a decision but next time we will make sure we call in before going to get our order.

Yocelin S.
I figured this was an over rated chicken joint and everyone raved about it because its the thing to do. I finally came around to try what I thought was ordinary chicken. ... Its not. This has got to be the crunchiest, most tender chicken chunks I have ever tasted, and I'm not a chicken person. Their rice is amazing and their wedges have never disappointed. I get the mild sauce with the chicken chunks.... The George & Eddy is my new usual.
(5)
Alex M.
Joliet's finest. This place is a must try. You always get your dollars worth and can enjoy the chicken chunks If you order a 3 or 5 piece, they always seem to toss a few chunks on there for you. Great place to stop for lunch.
(5)
Thomas C.
Chicken chunks are really as good as everyone says. Their spicy fried chicken reminds me of Uncle Albert's in Boyce, LA (that's a compliment). Jo-jo's - crispy baked potato wedge thingies - I'm still partial to those at the Dodge's stores in the southern U.S., but this far north of the Mason-Dixon line, you gotta take what you can get. The missus was agog over the corn dog nuggets. Prices - ridiculously cheap.
(4)
Xavier D.
Good chicken at a good price. Chicken-N-Spice is close to where I work and whenever I am in the mood for something inexpensive and filling, this is my go-to spot. The "George and Eddy" is the meal I constantly order there. Three big boneless chucks of chicken breast, a generous amount of potato wedges (or Jo-Jos), dirty rice (although I request for extra Jo-jos as a substitution), and a soft, buttery biscuit. If this isn't decadent, I don't know what is. Delicious, but a bit on the greasy side. Wouldn't recommend as a daily meal spot. Nonetheless, if you are in the mood for something tasty, filling, and inexpensive, this is your place.

TRY THE GUMBO (only served on Thursdays), and complain to them that gumbo needs to be served daily! So good!

I, much like the rest of Joliet, adore Chicken-N-Spice. It's conveniently located near the public library and the local high school, so I spent a lot of time with greasy fingers and good books ditching class for chicken, biscuits, and spicy rice during my teenage years. No, it's not a beautiful place & it's on the east side of Joliet, but that doesn't mean it's "grungy" or "dirty." You're there to get a delicious fried chicken meal, and that is what you're going to receive. I really adore the spicy rice side. And the honey sauce! Their honey sauce is absolutely key to the meal. Enjoy!

Look out KFC and Popeye's. The chicken chunks are awesome. Tender, juicy and spicy on the inside with a great coating. Pepperjack mac & cheese bites were great. Good service, friendly face behind the counter. Great value at very reasonable price.

CHICKEN CHUNKS! These were always common fair around parties when I was growing up, but I nearly forgot about there tasty goodness since I left for school. I finally got to rediscover this gem and it hasn't changed one bit. And that's a very good thing. I don't think I have ever had anything else from this place besides chunks and sides, but why would you? Juicy (ok, maybe a little greasy) big hunks of white meat, perfectly breaded and served in hearty portions. And if you order a 3 chunk meal, expect anywhere between 3-5. The staff must dish these out how they feel that day, or its by weight, either way you win. Maybe there is some nostalgia factor, but who cares. CHICKEN CHUNKS!

Keely C.
chicken chunks and jojos, o how i missed you! so its kind of weird moving back to the home town but one thing that has made my return that much better is chicken n spice. the amazing food, the quality people watching and realizing there are people who like their jobs. I might get fat being back, im just saying

I was not impressed with their chicken chunks. They were kind of dry and stringly. It also took three different people to ring us up correctly. I have eaten at much better chicken places. This one is ok, but I don't suggest it.

Most horrible opener to a restaurant review ever: What a lot of people don't remember was that this used to be an old Jack in the Box (a fast food chain popular here on the west coast). But it was closed down due to health code problems with ecoli. History aside, fear not. The cleaned up and bought out building now is the home of the best fast food but doesn't taste like fast food chicken shack. Ah Chicken & Spice and.. the awesome staff. Such a down to earth crowd. I remember many an inebriated day (I was young what can I say) with the munchies heading over there. You get a lot of food for the money. And it's not like every dime a dozen other chicken place around. Sure it doesn't look like much on the outside, but you came there for massive amounts of chicken and potato wedges. You're getting a lot of bang for your buck. Have a big party coming up and need a lot of food that will please everyone? Go there. Downtown Joliet needs a bit of love. And kids at my alma matter, Central, can easily walk down there in no time when you ditch class or for an after school special.

I've spent many lunch periods, math classes, and history classes here. This was my favorite place to go when ditching class more than a decade ago. The other reviews do not lie. You want the chicken chunks and you want them NOW. With a buttered biscuit. You want extra sauce, too. It's all about the sauce. If you don't have the sauce you've got nothin'. For my 15th birthday my mom had a 150pc of chicken chunks catered from here. Little did she realize just how many chicken chunks a 15yr old could eat.. I've never had better fried chicken and I never will. You gotta like spice though. Chicken N' Spice forever!!! (Put your wallet in your front pocket).

came here after walking around the downtown joliet area. this was also the #1 best of yelp restaurants in joliet so I had to check it out. most of best tasting food have come from pretty beat up looking places. love their chicken chunks and jojos diffinetely top 5 in my book. they seem to be doing ok but i wouldn't have stepped into the establishment if it wasn't for the good reviews. maybe fix it up a little some paint.
(4)
Rob R.
If you can dig the greasy spoon type atmosphere of the place you'll be happy you made the trip because the chicken is sooo good.
(4)
Doc M.
The boneless breast chunks are good, but the breading is a bit too much. Don't purchase them in the later evening, because they won't be fresh. Bone-in chicken is so-so (Popeye's is better). Biscuits are usually stale, so stay way from those. But, they have the BEST COLE SLAW (it even beats KFC). Large wedge-type "steak" fries, which I don't like. Moderately expensive for fast food. You'll spend ten to twelve bucks a person. Horrible neighborhood. Lock your car when you go inside & don't talk to strangers in the parking lot.

5 stars all the way! A Joliet landmark!
(5)
Candice Q.
I grew up on Chicken N Spice and it's one of Joliet's best eateries. It's one of those places that you wouldn't know if you weren't local. Yes, the food is greasy, and the place is on the grungy side- but the food is so darn good, you can overlook all of that. The staff is always friendly, as though they are happy to be there (um, who wouldn't with all that delicious food?). Hands down the best thing there are the chicken chunks, which are huge fried chunks of breast meat. They have also recently added a $1 BBQ chicken chunk sandwich, which is great. I thought would be on the small side for such a low price, but I was mistaken. Nicely sized and delicious, so much so that they generally run out by about 3pm. All in all, a definite must eat.
(5)
Danny M.
Why 5 stars because the chicken chunks are that good! Doesn't matter that its not a Starbucks or a Panera its the best chicken chunks you'll ever eat! Yes it's in the downtown Joliet area and those of you who are used to eating in Napervillle or Orland are gonna be a little disappointed with the scenery or the vibe. ANY event catered with Chicken-N-Spice chicken chunks will be a hit! Don't forget the potato wedges or biscuits!

I used to attend High School in Joliet and my buddies took me down here a few times when we were younger to get "the chunks". To this day they are the best in the world. When I recently traveled home I brought my girlfriend from California to Chicken and Spice to have her try them. She was hooked on them like Whitney on crack. She has told all of her friends about her chunk experience and hasn't stopped missing them already. She even believes my story that they toss chickens in the air and the chucks come down from a place called heaven. Get yourself a cherry soda and you're set. Plus they hook it up on the three piece meal which is like 6 pieces. A must when coming home to visit or just passing through. Thanks C&S for the memories.

You're thinking, "Joliet! Whyyyyy"? as many do when I tell them I actually left the city limits. Many Chitransplants think "Joliet" rhymes with "toilet". Uh, que? Yeah... Joliet's not as dirty as you think, at least the downtown area isn't. So, down to business. Fried Chicken. Chicken n' Spice should be franchised IF the quality could be maintained, unlike Popeye's or KENTUCKY Fried Chicken, or KFC for the acronymly impaired. Chicken n' Spice ROCKS, especially for chicken this damn good given a Midwest location. You'd think this shit comes from the south! Juicy, tender fried chicken. So simple! Jo-Jo's potato wedges on the side are a must have too. Good fuckin' fried fuckin' chicken!

The other guy aint kidding. This is without a doubt my favorite place ever. If I were on death row THIS WOULD BE MY LAST MEAL. The sides are great, the fries are AMAZING (kinda like KFC's fries but bigger and served hot and fresh), and OMG the CHICKEN CHUNKS are out of this world. They are so BIG and JUICY. And its all at a reasonable price. And yes like the other guy said, the atmosphere kinda sucks but its not nearly as bad as it used to be. Personally I've never had a problem. its never really crowded when I go, but I go on the weekdays. So definetly check this place out, if you can find it.

I know this is gonna sound ridiculous, but Chicken-N-Spice chicken chunks are a part of my in-laws' Christmas dinner. And I love them for it. Yes, you head me right, this place is so good that I love my in-laws. The chicken by itself can stand on its own merits - to me it's a mild spicy but my in-laws think it's a little hot. Either way, it's nicely fried (a little on the greasy side) and has more flavor than you'd expect for fried chicken. The sauce (a sweet, ketchup-base) nicely balances out the heat with tang - I can't ever get enough of it. I'll be the first to admit that I've never actually been to the location itself, but the food is good, and I'd probably sit through just about anything to get it.

hole-e-smokes... look..i may give out a lot of 5 stars but, there is always a good reason. my physical therapist turned me onto this place when i was going through an ACL reconstruction. (totally weird subject to come up, i know) ANYWHO....this place NEVER fails...here's why: Their chicken CHUNKS are like the size of your fist. They aren't frozen, pre-made rubbish...these sweet babies are cut up chicken breasts and hand-breaded..fried to a crispy deliciousness. Their BBQ sauce is essentially a liquid mixture of tabasco and something else...which i wasn't initially the biggest fan BUT, it grew on me annnnnd it works so well with the chunks. They are called CHICKEN CHUNKS...come on, seriously...how is that NOT amazing? truffle shuffle anyone? overall, the taste is remarkable and where else to find such a tasty treat than, good ole JOLIET, illinois. Right by the Rialto theatre (if it's still there)

We order this at work sometimes. I am not a big fried chicken person, but the food is good and always hot. They people in there are nice. Its a nice treat.

One of the places i truly miss back in my hometown. I revisited there just last week and instantly memories of the awesomeness of their chicken chunks came flooding back to me. The food was just as good as I remember it to be, and they still have the best "Meal for your buck" with the George and Eddie. It's three chunks, spicy rice, Jo Jo's (Potato wedges), a biscuit, and a drink all for 6.25!! Soooo gooood!
(5)
Cindy B.
the best chicken chunks ever, love, love, love them
(5)
Dave N.
I love the chicken chunks, the only problem is they are spice, the kinda spice that sneaks up on you, but the prices are fair and the chunks are great, the other food is pretty good, the only drawback is it's kinda dirty inside the place, a little soap and water would do wonders.
(5)
Bill R.
The chicken chunks are what you're here for. (There's regular pieces of chicken, but to be honest, it's nothing particularly special.) We got a mix of both & without question, the chunks were *great*.
(5)
Steve M.
What I love is the gizzards! They are moist, spicy and very tender. They're a little pricey (considering that they are a "garbage" part) and you have to wait for them to be cooked to order but they are well worth it. The only thing that would make this place better is if they had a drive-thru window.
(5)
Jessica M.
Best chicken in town!! I love, love, love chicken-n-spice!! Every time I'm around I want and usually get some lol. They're chicken chunks and Jo Jo's are the best.

A downtown Joliet staple, Chicken-N-Spice provides the fast food experience of a fried chicken joint with great flavor and unique sides. Typically my family orders platters for special events, but I chose to stop by today and enjoy a lunch since I was in the area. There's a great lunch special with 3 chicken chunks + biscuit + drink + 2 sides for $10! I chose to combine my two sides for jalapeño and nacho cheese fries, picked up a bottled water, and added a coleslaw (see picture). I was so used to chicken chunks being slightly tough and dry due to the reheating and transport necessary with family platter purchases, I was surprised to find the chicken quite soft and juicy! I've always loved their BBQ sauce (strangely similar to Open Pit), but my favorite is the hot BBQ. I ended up eating all but one chunk of chicken and the biscuit which I took home. The restaurant and area are a bit rundown, but the clientele and staff are very friendly. Be careful as you walk, however, as the constant deep frying spreads a layer of grease on the floor which brought my sandals to slide slightly when I walked.

I've been to this place a few times pre-yelp, but now that I'm a member and have been since, I must give kudos to their offerings. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, potato wedges, chicken chunks, onion rings--everything your greasy heart would ever desire. Clearly not some place you could eat at often without having your body hate you, it's best served as an occasional treat to your gluttonous urges. I will say that for what the food is, it still is better than your chain stuff like KFC which is just so crusted and full of yuck. If you're in Joliet, make it a point to stop by, even if you get something small. It may look like a dive, and it is certainly a hole in the wall place, but the food is fantastic for its "genre."

Lots of food for the price. Chicken and waffles was good. The macaroni bites are okay but I don't think I need to get them again. I probably won't go regularly though just too fatty for me.
(3)

I go there for the chicken chunks. One of the best of the hidden gems in the area. Reasonable prices and an eclectic menu.
(4)
Roma L.
Was in the area for work from Chicago. Food meaning chicken is good -- 8/10 greasy yes. But every now and then it's fine. Area wasn't appealing at all (but maybe because I'm from Chicago & into nicer restaurants) The employees had their drinking cups all of the counter and cookies?! Bathroom was gross -- for as many employees there were they couldn't clean up the restroom? Anyways not sure if I'd come back. Mac n cheese bites?! Tried & nothing special it does have a little kick.. Biscuit wasn't really good Paid $5+ for my meal as shown in the pic no drink.

Had the chicken chunks and waffle! So good but the waffle was a bit crunchy- wish it was more fluffy. The chick was delicious- juicy, crispy, and chunky!

The chicken chunks were outstanding. Great flavor and freshness. Went back and forth with hot sauce and the sweet and sour.

Amazing place to stop for lunch on a road trip! Not too far from the freeway, even if it was it would be worth the drive. Loved the chicken "chunks" they were huge, juicy, favorable and very crispy. It was our first time there and they gave us three extra taste test pieces that were the same huge size as the regular chunks. Great service!

It is good when you catch the good cook that doesn't cook the nuggets too long. But I really enjoy ever time I stop by the food is able to be eaten
(3)

Look, its a hole in the wall, greasy fried chicken joint... In the best way! I got the bone-in fried spicy chicken. It was pretty good, but not spicy at all. I also got a small side of the mac-n-cheese bites, and they were awesome!!

In the deeper bowels of food history, some enterprising young lad entertained the notion of serving fried chicken with waffles. In a more recent entry of food history, Chicken-N-Spice kicked it up a notch by serving the waffles with strawberry syrup and whipped cream. Let us set aside, for a moment, the fact that the waffles come with a side of not-maple pancake syrup and not-quite-butter spread, or the fact that the (yummy) biscuit comes with "honey sauce" (which is majority high-fructose corn syrup and minority honey). Because, frankly, I don't really care about ingredient integrity here. No, the thing about Chicken-N-Spice is that the food tastes really damn good in spite of this. When I first saw the chicken chunks, I had to reach pretty deep into my reservoir of words to describe them. Eventually I pulled out the chart of hail sizes, and decided "hen-egg" was the best size descriptor. These things are huge! The breading has a pinch or two of cayenne, so it's a little bit spicy. The white breast meat is moist. As far as dipping sauce goes, the barbecue sauce is a bit sweet and complements the spice nicely. Forget going to a fried chicken chain for spicy chicken - Chicken-N-Spice is where it's at. The waffles - if you're going to do this, might as well go all the way, right? They didn't get in the way of the chicken, but had the right amount of crisp. I maybe could've used a little more syrup (with fresh strawberries!) but that wasn't really a big deal. They serve long potato wedges that are a bit crispy on the exterior and creamy on the interior, just how it's supposed to be done. They serve dirty rice that's also got a little kick to it, and was evenly seasoned. I wish I lived closer to Joliet so I could try everything on the menu. Chicken-N-Spice is in a part of town that looks like it's seen better days. But if you're looking for great fried chicken, you're not going to see much better than this.

I was in town for business and one Saturday morning my co-worker tells me that he's headed to this chicken & waffle place in Joliet that scored high on Yelp and if I wanted to come. I was hesitant because of my disdain for Roscoe's... but I tagged along anyway. As we drove up I was thinking to myself, "what have we gotten ourselves into? This place looks like a hole in the wall" But soon I was eating my words... I ordered up the Waffles-n-Chunks. The waffle was extremely well done... and the chicken had the right amount of breading and the meat was still very moist. My only complaint was the coffee was really weak. Was hoping for something that would keep my heart pumping after eating this meal. If I am back in that area on business again, I will be sure to swing by again to try out more of their menu.

If you like chicken tenders, you will love their take on their chicken chunks. Think of them as a fist full of delicious fried white meat chicken with just the right amount of kick in their spices. Love this place!

Have you ever had a McNugget that was as big as a baseball? Have you ever had a McNugget that was made out of the majority of an actual chicken breast? I have to say that this place is the king of fried chicken. Also, their BBQ is a perfect match to their "breast chunks". The location is not in the greatest part of town, but this chicken is worth a small chance of getting carjacked. Literally, you can get a new car, this chicken is one of a kind! I've been eating Chicken and Spice for almost Thirty years. It is one if the most Quintessentially Joliet restaurants along with Syls or Marichka's. Enjoy!!

Great chicken spot in downtown. Best chicken I've ever had! Treat yourself to these pieces of heaven. You won't be disappointed!!

Hard to give only 4 stars instead of 5 because chicken was OUT of this world. Best fried chicken I've ever had. But....the onion rings were a joke. As commented by a couple other yelpers, these are tasteless and bland to the Extreme. I'm a huge onion ring fan, and I have to say these are the worst I've had in my life. No flavor whatsoever. Just onion and flour... I'll be back for more chicken. But PLEASE do yourself a favor and stay away from the rings.

1st time trying this place. Had the chicken and biscuit. Well. I guess I will be eating somewhere else. Not sure why this place has such a high rating. Assuming family and friends. Heading to Popeyes

I was here recently and this place still rocks. Consistent and great every time. One of the best places to get chicken not just for lunch or dinner but for a picc or party as well. Alway a hit and everybody likes it so far. Keep up the good work!

This place is a Joliet institution institution! A definite must stop place on the list of Joliet eateries. The staff is always courteous friendly and humble. The chicken is always hot crispy and juicy. Sweet N sour sauce is the best IMO.

This is by far a favorite spot in Joliet. They have freshness of food along with customer service on the top of their list for sure. The food is always prepared fresh and fast. They have great variety to choose from I their menu. The establishment itself is very clean and the staff is always willing to resolve any issue in a very professional manner. The manager lety goes out of her way to make sure each customer is well taken care off.

The Joliet legend. Everyone that lives here knows this place, and well. The chicken chunks are a MUST. Biscuits Are always warm, soft and good. Even if you don't live in Joliet you have to try this place. I'm not even going out on a limb by saying this is the best chicken I've ever had.

Chicken chunks. I'm not sure what to say since there are already a million reviews mentioning the chunks, but they are the reason this restaurant is well known here and they are the one item on the menu that has to be on your bucket list. Yes, they are that good. They are huge and they are delicious. Do not say the word "nugget" in their presence or they will give you a rightly deserved beat down. They are actual breast meat, which is hand cut, seasoned, hand battered, and fried. I do not care if you are a vegetarian who runs a chicken rescue shelter for a living, you need to try these chunks. The other items I've tried off of the menu are good, but the chunks are so good it's been a long time since I've had anything else besides Gumbo. Consensus seems to be the Jo-Jos (seasoned potato wedges) are the most popular side, but I personally prefer the spicy rice. I will, on occasion, avoid this dilemma entirely and just order the George and Eddie which comes with both, plus 3 chunks, a biscuit and a drink. Oh, and if you're dining in, get the Strawberry Shortcake. Not that it's bad if it's to go, but they have to put a lid on it which smooshes it a bit and causes it to not have as much whipped cream, so definitely a better dine in item. The other thing here I would list as a must try is the Gumbo which is only served on Thursdays. You can get it hot or mild, I get mine mixed half and half and it still seems to pack plenty of kick, and I like spicy food. If you can't eat spicy, you can order the mild, but it doesn't have any sausage in it (as well as the spicy stuff like peppers and hot carrots.) If you do not order ahead on Gumbo day, there is a good chance that it will be sold out by lunchtime, which I am now realizing is probably why no one else seems to be mentioning the Gumbo and I am now going to brace for the inevitable threats I get from the other Gumbo consumers. The restaurant decor is definitely no frills. Don't hold your wedding reception here. (Hold it next door at the Renaissance Center and smuggle the chunks into the reception instead.)

Update- Weirdo who likes to do marketing for businesses ( yelp user-Tim H) was pressed that I gave a bad review and contacted me to let me know he was upset because of my review and pics of this place. Don't be upset with me because the place was filthy and disgusting. If they remodeled good for them. The place needed It. It was absolutely disgusting. Get a life and stop harassing people because they don't feel the same way you do about a business.

The name says it all. The chicken does have a spice. Sadly that is all I can say. The onions rings lacked flavor. Had the Mac bites and those also had a spice that was good. The dirty rice was not very good. And the shrimp was bland. Portions are huge so under order and eat a lot Also it is rough part of town so know where you are going.

George and eddies is amazinggggg. With ranch and hot sauce.. yum yum... yesterday I got the strawberry shortcake bc my grandma told me to try and 6 months ago, and I finally got around to it.. and oh my god was it amazing. Honestly, I bought two and am eating the 2nd one as I type.. Hehe I never would have ordered this but I am soooo glad I did.

Well after my forth visit here, since seeing them on Chicago's Best TV, it's time for a review don't you think? I was shocked to see someone point out a bathroom condition and must admit I hadn't noticed his claims. Since I had done some traveling before my stop here, I had to make a pit stop before ordering... too much coffee earlier at Home Cut Donuts is my guess. I felt compelled to update the bathroom photos and I have come to learn from KR (hubby of the owner) that the bathroom had certainly received its fair share of abuse from customers over the years. He has spent a boat load of dough on a handicapped size door, as well as make the walls all most certainly vandal proof. Enough of that, let's get on to the star attraction... besides a great smiling helpful manager, how bout some of the best chunks of chicken you can experience. If you watch the episode on Chicago's Best TV you'll see just a hint of their secrets, the chicken breast chunks gets its great flavor from a marinade in a special cayenne rub, which manifests itself overnight. Their sides I've experienced have just been the onion rings, up till yesterday's visit. With the George and Eddie value meal, you can pick two sides or go for the rings, as they're so worth it. I tried the new mac n cheese bites and their spicy rice, both were great! Two of the chicken chunks, the biscuit and the rice made for a great second meal for me, as I love the chunks cold too. The rice reheats nicely under a damp paper towel for 45 seconds. I also love to split my biscuit open and toast it and they also give you some honey. If this place was closer to me, I would try the bone in chicken but the chunks are always such a rare treat. This is a no frills spot and I'm sure they could modernize and update the interior and pass the cost on to their customers. These are dirt cheap prices IMO. Two sides, four chunks (over a half pound of breast meat) and a drink out the door for $8, good luck finding a better value. The charm of the place to me, is the 35 yr. history of this family operated establishment. Sure, the grand kids might already be on the payroll but their photos make this place charming. Find your way here and you'll be a happy camper. A huge plus for me is the fresh brewed iced tea. They do serve breakfast items and the new waffles look good too, which is available all day. Oh yeah free WiFi and drink refills with a smile. I added a bunch of pictures from the CB episode or here's the link to their YouTube episode on Chicago's Best TV... youtube.com/watch?v=H6tO…

I had the chicken chunks with some sides. Chicken was good - nice portions, good crunch, decent spice, and white meat (which is refreshing from what fast food chains offer). The sauce to dip the chunks in and the sides were terrible. I can't even tell you how much grease was left in that bag - gives me nightmares. I would recommend going there to get some chicken to go; make your own sides and use some Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce (or some such store bought sauce to accompany the chicken). The restaurant looks dirty and isn't very inviting.

Yummy yummy and all for a good price! Had the 2 piece chicken dinner with spicy rice and biscuit. Very quick service and low key restaurant, but in the heart of downtown Joliet- near the Rialto and Harrah's Casino. Would go again when I'm in the area.

The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because for some reason my boyfriend loves their chicken. Otherwise i personally think their food is disgusting. The inside interior of the place is nasty also. I won't be eating there ever again.

Didn't think this place was any better than any chain restaurant like Popeyes or KFC. Actually a little worse. Food wasn't very hot. The mashed potatoes were cold and doughy like they came from a box. Which they probably did. They don't accept cards if it's less than 5 dollars. They charge extra for condiment like hot sauce which would have been nice to know before paying for my meal. Considering u can't pay 33cents with a card.

Chunks... 'Nuff said. Really, I've never been a fan of breast meat as I prefer dark meat which tends to be juicier, BUT the chicken breast chunks at CnS are pure awesomeness (in chunk form.) GF really liked the mac and cheese wedges. I thought they were okay. My opinion is just go for the chunks and you'll be good to go.

Alisa M.
Must try the fried chicken breast chunks! Worth the money. The breast is very juicy with lots of flavor. The sizes are pretty big too. We ordered a 9 piece and I was full after about 3 (I'm a decent eater). They give you a choice of sauce for every 3 pieces of chicken. The breading is very crunchy and seasoned very well. Totally worth the drive to Joliet to get my fried chicken fix! We also tried the pepperjack mac n cheese bites (sheer heaven!) and the jalapeno poppers (some were filled with cheddar cheese and the others cream cheese). Both very good! The biscuits were average. They are warm and yummy with honey! You also get free refills on your drinks. Grabbed the catering menu and will be ordering this for future parties. I'm sure it'll be a hit!

Being a new resident to Joliet a friend of mine brought me here saying it was a must go to spot in the downtown area. I have to say that the interior could use some remodeling, and there were a few sketchy looking customers there, but the food was great! I got the two piece fish meal with Mac and cheese bites. The fish was really good, much better than other fast food places like Long John Silver and the Mac and cheese bites were delicious! I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot if you're in the area.

I have to preface this by stating that, while I do not hate fried chicken by any means, I am not a huge fan. I rarely, if ever, go to KFC or popeyes. That being said I am obsessed with chicken n spice. This place is awesome. The quality of the chicken is great and the sides are fantastic. the mac n cheese bites are great, the biscuits are amazing, and they have some of the best mashed potatoes. The prices are fantastic for what you get and I have never left here anything but satisfied. Even their breakfast is amazing. I recommend the chicken balls and waffles with a biscuit.

Chicken chunks. Every year at my friend's Christmas party, another friend brings a plain white box stuffed with these things. I always asked, "where are these from?" and I got a slurred, drunken, insufficent answer: "Joliet." Finally, this year, someone still sober was able to answer my question: Chicken N Spice is the home of the chicken chunks. These are massive, meaty, coated in greasy fried batter, and I look forward to them every year. It's a little out of the way for me, and Popeye's can satisfy my occasional fried chicken craving. But the chicken chunks at Chicken N Spice are better than KFC, Popeyes and especially White Fence Farm. If you're in the area, get some!

It totally lives up to all the reviews! Service is fast and those chicken chunks are the best thing ever! So good! The coleslaw is awesome too.

Have mercy. Chicken-N-Spice serves up some of the best fried chicken and biscuits I've ever had the pleasure to eat in my entire life! I know some people rag on it for the lack of whatever in their onion rings or what have you, but this is a chicken place y'all. So I'm reviewing the chicken and it.is .heavenly. Yeah it's greasy and yeah it's probably taken a few years off my life, but are my tastebuds happy? Absolutely! The only side I've had which they offer are the jo-jo's, which are just fried potato wedges. The jo-jo's are nothing special, they do their job, but I can't say I dislike them. I actually think they're pretty good. Also, the biscuits are a must! The restaurant itself is located in a kinda suspicious part of town but whatever. Parking's alright and there are a few tables to hang out with friends or family if you choose to eat there. I think most people take their Chicken-N-Spice home, though. In any case, try this place out if you're a fried chicken fiend or if you're in the mood for some comfort food because this certainly will make your stomach sing!

Great food and great service. It is about 35 or 40 miles away from me but worth the drive. They are skimpy with their portions. I took my and sister and all three of us brought food home for a next meal. I talked to a manager on my way out and gave her my compliments on the friendly service, food, and portions and he said thanks. Then had asked me if we tried their new mac and cheese bites and I said no. She gave me some for the ride home. They were yummy for the tummy. I will go back again.

I'll keep it short. The spicy chicken breast chunks are just dynamite. When you're craving fried chicken this is the only place to go. Recently we have added the Mac n cheese bites to our dinners.. Cheesy and spicy and fried. This is not health food. But after a long week Friday night fried chicken is just what I need.

First time coming to the restaurant we didn't know exactly what to get but the cashier was very nice and very helpful so first impressions were very good. The owner was right there at 11 am working and seemed very nice and approachable. We had the chicken nuggets, shrimp, mac and cheese bites and mashed potatoes and gravy. Everything was good, the only thing we didn't like and felt it didn't affect the food quality was the bbq sauce, very thin and not much flavor.

Chicken Chunks are out of this world! Even if you don't live in the booneys, it's completely worth the drive. Coming from mostly city-dweling, the friendliness of the staff is almost alarming. I mean...friendliness is taken to new heights here.Without a doubt Chicken-n-Spice is the proverbial small town restaurant chalk full of good eats albeit being surrounded by not the best of areas. But if you are up for a little bit of an adventure, this place is worth it. The only word of advice I would give for those who are cautious is to come for lunch in the middle of the day. Like I said, not the best of areas but it really just depends on your level of comfort. I have been here before and will be back! Also wonderful for catering whether you are or aren't on a budget, this place can handle large orders so long as you phone in advance! I have used them a few times and the food was a crowd pleaser every time!

A coworker of mine mentioned this place and then surprised me with some for lunch. It was definitely all she raved about and more. The chicken was definitely flavorful and finger licking good. Wish it was closer to home!

No need to get anything but chicken chunks and Jo-Jo's.

New to the area and from the city where Harold's and Uncle Remus' Chicken is popular we were delighted to find a great place that was reasonable and tasty. We felt a tad rushed to make a decision but next time we will make sure we call in before going to get our order.

(5)

Joliet's finest. This place is a must try. You always get your dollars worth and can enjoy the chicken chunks If you order a 3 or 5 piece, they always seem to toss a few chunks on there for you. Great place to stop for lunch.

(5)
Keely C.
chicken chunks and jojos, o how i missed you! so its kind of weird moving back to the home town but one thing that has made my return that much better is chicken n spice. the amazing food, the quality people watching and realizing there are people who like their jobs.

So definetly check this place out, if you can find it.

hole-e-smokes... look..i may give out a lot of 5 stars but, there is always a good reason. my physical therapist turned me onto this place when i was going through an ACL reconstruction.

(5)
Sara P.
Lots of food for the price. Chicken and waffles was good. The macaroni bites are okay but I don't think I need to get them again. I probably won't go regularly though just too fatty for me.

(3)
Jada K.

Had lunch there the other day, plus brought some home for dinner. Excellent, and nice employees too. The lady at the register was very cheery and fun to talk to. Now I know what a Jo Jo is! The biscuits are awesome. Reasonably priced, better than the other well known place in town...

(4)
Jessica M.
Best chicken in town!! I love, love, love chicken-n-spice!! Every time I'm around I want and usually get some lol. They're chicken chunks and Jo Jo's are the best.
(5)
Christina M.
(5)
Savanna B.

(4)
Jason R.
(5)
Eric S.
(5)
Sharon R.

The Joliet legend. Everyone that lives here knows this place, and well. The chicken chunks are a MUST. Biscuits Are always warm, soft and good. Even if you don't live in Joliet you have to try this place. I'm not even going out on a limb by saying this is the best chicken I've ever had.

Food was delicious again. The Mac n cheese bites are seriously out of this world. I really love this place. Service is okay, could be better though. Overall awesome place.

Chunks...

(4)Jason R.
(5)Eric S.
(5)Joan L.
(4)Pascal M.
(5)Bill H.
Quite frankly, it's worth going out of the way for. I'm looking forward to the next time I'm anywhere close.
(4)Alixx C.
(1)La La R.
Love it!!;)
(5)Mike K.
(4)Twylla S.
If you want chicken.... there's no where else within at least a 200 mile radius worth even thinking about eating at. Go on...make the drive...you won't regret it. I agree with the religious chicken comment. It's really ridiculous.
(5)Michael S.
(3)Erikam M.
A coworker of mine mentioned this place and then surprised me with some for lunch. It was definitely all she raved about and more. The chicken was definitely flavorful and finger licking good. Wish it was closer to home!
(5)Alana T.
(2)Carolyn C.
(5)amy k.
No need to get anything but chicken chunks and Jo-Jo's.
(5)Dalibor Z.
(5)James T.
This is TOP NOTCH..can' be beat fried chicken. The food is great and the staff is equally great. Once you get past the skitchiness of the clientele and area, it is awesome.
(5)Tim D.
(3)Laura K.
(4)Rich R.
Ugh!
(5)Jay n.
(1)Mike R.
(5)Emma A.
Two words. Chicken chunks. I'm addicted and absolutely love it. Hope they're here forever. Local legend!
(5)Darla W.
New to the area and from the city where Harold's and Uncle Remus' Chicken is popular we were delighted to find a great place that was reasonable and tasty. We felt a tad rushed to make a decision but next time we will make sure we call in before going to get our order.
(4)Yocelin S.
(5)Alex M.
Joliet's finest. This place is a must try. You always get your dollars worth and can enjoy the chicken chunks If you order a 3 or 5 piece, they always seem to toss a few chunks on there for you. Great place to stop for lunch.
(5)Thomas C.
(4)Xavier D.
(3)S W.
TRY THE GUMBO (only served on Thursdays), and complain to them that gumbo needs to be served daily! So good!
(5)Sara W.
Enjoy!
(4)Sandy W.
Love the chicken chunks!!!! Yummy food and the staff are all upbeat and friendly.
(4)Lora W.
Look out KFC and Popeye's. The chicken chunks are awesome. Tender, juicy and spicy on the inside with a great coating. Pepperjack mac & cheese bites were great. Good service, friendly face behind the counter. Great value at very reasonable price.
(5)Anthony S.
Chicken chunks are fabulous.... I go back again and again.
(5)chris t.
(5)Keely C.
chicken chunks and jojos, o how i missed you! so its kind of weird moving back to the home town but one thing that has made my return that much better is chicken n spice. the amazing food, the quality people watching and realizing there are people who like their jobs. I might get fat being back, im just saying
(5)Mark J.
I was not impressed with their chicken chunks. They were kind of dry and stringly. It also took three different people to ring us up correctly. I have eaten at much better chicken places. This one is ok, but I don't suggest it.
(2)Jena S.
(5)Wayne L.
Best Damn Chicken in the State
(4)Aaron H.
(5)Kayleigh L.
LOVE this place. So great, I feel like it is a staple in Joliet. :)
(5)LJ R.
came here after walking around the downtown joliet area. this was also the #1 best of yelp restaurants in joliet so I had to check it out. most of best tasting food have come from pretty beat up looking places. love their chicken chunks and jojos diffinetely top 5 in my book. they seem to be doing ok but i wouldn't have stepped into the establishment if it wasn't for the good reviews. maybe fix it up a little some paint.
(4)Rob R.
If you can dig the greasy spoon type atmosphere of the place you'll be happy you made the trip because the chicken is sooo good.
(4)Doc M.
(3)Julie D.
5 stars all the way! A Joliet landmark!
(5)Candice Q.

(4)Efren H.
The chicken chunks and mashed potatoea are delicious try them out.
(5)J B.
Unbelievably good chicken in a rundown take out joint. A favorite of police officers!I A unique Joliet experience.
(5)David H.
(5)Erik J.

Right by the Rialto theatre (if it's still there)
(5)D M.
We order this at work sometimes. I am not a big fried chicken person, but the food is good and always hot. They people in there are nice. Its a nice treat.
(4)Aric C.
(5)Cindy B.
the best chicken chunks ever, love, love, love them
(5)Dave N.
I love the chicken chunks, the only problem is they are spice, the kinda spice that sneaks up on you, but the prices are fair and the chunks are great, the other food is pretty good, the only drawback is it's kinda dirty inside the place, a little soap and water would do wonders.
(5)Bill R.
The chicken chunks are what you're here for. (There's regular pieces of chicken, but to be honest, it's nothing particularly special.) We got a mix of both & without question, the chunks were *great*.
(5)Steve M.
What I love is the gizzards! They are moist, spicy and very tender. They're a little pricey (considering that they are a "garbage" part) and you have to wait for them to be cooked to order but they are well worth it. The only thing that would make this place better is if they had a drive-thru window.
(5)Jessica M.
Best chicken in town!! I love, love, love chicken-n-spice!! Every time I'm around I want and usually get some lol. They're chicken chunks and Jo Jo's are the best.
(5)Josh M.
(4)Andrew J.
(4)Sara P.
Lots of food for the price. Chicken and waffles was good. The macaroni bites are okay but I don't think I need to get them again. I probably won't go regularly though just too fatty for me.
(3)Sean D.
I go there for the chicken chunks. One of the best of the hidden gems in the area. Reasonable prices and an eclectic menu.
(4)Roma L.
(3)Jada K.
Had the chicken chunks and waffle! So good but the waffle was a bit crunchy- wish it was more fluffy. The chick was delicious- juicy, crispy, and chunky!
(4)Ron S.
The chicken chunks were outstanding. Great flavor and freshness. Went back and forth with hot sauce and the sweet and sour.
(4)Christina M.
(5)Savanna B.
It is good when you catch the good cook that doesn't cook the nuggets too long. But I really enjoy ever time I stop by the food is able to be eaten
(3)John S.
Look, its a hole in the wall, greasy fried chicken joint... In the best way! I got the bone-in fried spicy chicken. It was pretty good, but not spicy at all. I also got a small side of the mac-n-cheese bites, and they were awesome!!
(4)Robert G.
(5)Christopher S.
(5)Debi S.
If you like chicken tenders, you will love their take on their chicken chunks. Think of them as a fist full of delicious fried white meat chicken with just the right amount of kick in their spices. Love this place!
(5)Jon P.
Enjoy!!
(4)John C.
Great chicken spot in downtown. Best chicken I've ever had! Treat yourself to these pieces of heaven. You won't be disappointed!!
(5)James P.
(4)Homer M.
1st time trying this place. Had the chicken and biscuit. Well. I guess I will be eating somewhere else. Not sure why this place has such a high rating. Assuming family and friends. Heading to Popeyes
(1)Ed B.
I was here recently and this place still rocks. Consistent and great every time. One of the best places to get chicken not just for lunch or dinner but for a picc or party as well. Alway a hit and everybody likes it so far. Keep up the good work!
(4)Mark P.
This place is a Joliet institution institution! A definite must stop place on the list of Joliet eateries. The staff is always courteous friendly and humble. The chicken is always hot crispy and juicy. Sweet N sour sauce is the best IMO.
(5)Yazmin G.
(5)Chris S.
The Joliet legend. Everyone that lives here knows this place, and well. The chicken chunks are a MUST. Biscuits Are always warm, soft and good. Even if you don't live in Joliet you have to try this place. I'm not even going out on a limb by saying this is the best chicken I've ever had.
(5)Stephen O.

(1)Omar A.
(3)Ashley J.
(5)Tim H.
I added a bunch of pictures from the CB episode or here's the link to their YouTube episode on Chicago's Best TV... youtube.com/watch?v=H6tO…
(5)Jay W.
(3)Tiff T.
Yummy yummy and all for a good price! Had the 2 piece chicken dinner with spicy rice and biscuit. Very quick service and low key restaurant, but in the heart of downtown Joliet- near the Rialto and Harrah's Casino. Would go again when I'm in the area.
(4)Kayla K.
The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because for some reason my boyfriend loves their chicken. Otherwise i personally think their food is disgusting. The inside interior of the place is nasty also. I won't be eating there ever again.
(3)Olga S.
(1)Jaelin R.
Food was delicious again. The Mac n cheese bites are seriously out of this world. I really love this place. Service is okay, could be better though. Overall awesome place.
(4)Patrick J.
Warning do not eat here!!! The chicken chunks are so good it may start an addiction cycle in your life. :)
(5)Michael S.
Chunks...
(4)Alisa M.
(5)Dan C.
(5)Zack R.
(5)J T.
The chicken chunks and hot sauce are really good!
(4)Angela P.
(4)Irma R.
It totally lives up to all the reviews! Service is fast and those chicken chunks are the best thing ever! So good! The coleslaw is awesome too.
(5)Anne B.
(5)Laney C.
WOW! Awesome food! chicken chunks are to die for and the mashed potatoes & gravy are the bomb! fried fish was awesome too and so was the cole slaw, biscuits and potato wedges! loved....loved....loved....the food!
(5)Todd J N.
(5)Deanna K.
(5)William S.
Awesome find on Yelp while traveling across the country. The chicken isn't as spicy as you may expect, the Mac & Cheese bites are heavenly.
(5)Kevin S.
I love these older local institution type places.....this one was great. If you love fried stuff....it is heaven. I had the breast chunks, livers and onion rings and it was all good. Huge portions....i ordered the small chicken livers and it was enough for dinner and lunch the next day....i wonder what the large looks like.
(4)Jeni H.
The only thing that sucks about this place is the location. The joes are awesome the chunks are crispy and moist. The place is clean, the employees are nice and the cops eat there too! Looking for amazing chicken with the perfect hot sauce? Chicken and spice is your answer!
(4)Mohamed B.
I really liked how the wings tasted really good but u did not like the sit down. Dident feel like it was comfortable. And not as clean as I thought
(2)Lisa L.
(5)Rachel B.
(4)Gary A.
Exceptional chicken, and the mac and cheese bites also surprised me. The wedges tasted like anybody else's, and the rice wasn't anything to rave about. The biscuit was not bad, favors to the kfc's biscuit. Worth the visit. Pretty big menu
(3)James T.

(4)Zack R.
(5)Irma R.
It totally lives up to all the reviews! Service is fast and those chicken chunks are the best thing ever! So good! The coleslaw is awesome too.
(4)Anne B.
(5)Laney C.
WOW! Awesome food! chicken chunks are to die for and the mashed potatoes & gravy are the bomb! fried fish was awesome too and so was the cole slaw, biscuits and potato wedges! loved....loved....loved....the food!
(5)Todd J N.
(5)Angela P.
(4)Deanna K.
(5)William S.
Awesome find on Yelp while traveling across the country. The chicken isn't as spicy as you may expect, the Mac & Cheese bites are heavenly.
(5)Mohamed B.
I really liked how the wings tasted really good but u did not like the sit down. Dident feel like it was comfortable. And not as clean as I thought
(2)Lisa L.
(5)Rachel B.
(4)Gary A.
Exceptional chicken, and the mac and cheese bites also surprised me. The wedges tasted like anybody else's, and the rice wasn't anything to rave about. The biscuit was not bad, favors to the kfc's biscuit. Worth the visit. Pretty big menu
(3)Joan L.
(4)Pascal M.
(5)Bill H.
Quite frankly, it's worth going out of the way for. I'm looking forward to the next time I'm anywhere close.
(4)Alixx C.
(1)La La R.
Love it!!;)
(5)Mike K.
(4)Twylla S.
If you want chicken.... there's no where else within at least a 200 mile radius worth even thinking about eating at. Go on...make the drive...you won't regret it. I agree with the religious chicken comment. It's really ridiculous.
(5)Michael S.
(3)Mike R.
(5)Emma A.
Two words. Chicken chunks. I'm addicted and absolutely love it. Hope they're here forever. Local legend!
(5)Alana T.
(2)Erikam M.
A coworker of mine mentioned this place and then surprised me with some for lunch. It was definitely all she raved about and more. The chicken was definitely flavorful and finger licking good. Wish it was closer to home!
(5)Carolyn C.
(5)amy k.
No need to get anything but chicken chunks and Jo-Jo's.
(5)Dalibor Z.
(5)Rich R.
Ugh!
(5)Jay n.
(1)Darla W.
New to the area and from the city where Harold's and Uncle Remus' Chicken is popular we were delighted to find a great place that was reasonable and tasty. We felt a tad rushed to make a decision but next time we will make sure we call in before going to get our order.
(4)Yocelin S.
(5)Alex M.
Joliet's finest. This place is a must try. You always get your dollars worth and can enjoy the chicken chunks If you order a 3 or 5 piece, they always seem to toss a few chunks on there for you. Great place to stop for lunch.
(5)Thomas C.
(4)Sandy W.
Love the chicken chunks!!!! Yummy food and the staff are all upbeat and friendly.
(4)Xavier D.
(3)S W.
TRY THE GUMBO (only served on Thursdays), and complain to them that gumbo needs to be served daily! So good!
(5)Sara W.
Enjoy!
(5)chris t.
(5)Keely C.
chicken chunks and jojos, o how i missed you! so its kind of weird moving back to the home town but one thing that has made my return that much better is chicken n spice. the amazing food, the quality people watching and realizing there are people who like their jobs. I might get fat being back, im just saying
(5)Mark J.
I was not impressed with their chicken chunks. They were kind of dry and stringly. It also took three different people to ring us up correctly. I have eaten at much better chicken places. This one is ok, but I don't suggest it.
(2)Jena S.
(5)Wayne L.
Best Damn Chicken in the State
(4)Aaron H.
(4)Doc M.
(3)Julie D.
5 stars all the way! A Joliet landmark!
(5)J T.
The chicken chunks and hot sauce are really good!
(4)Candice Q.
(5)Danny M.
(5)Handsome T.
(5)John L.
(4)Efren H.
The chicken chunks and mashed potatoea are delicious try them out.
(5)J B.
Unbelievably good chicken in a rundown take out joint. A favorite of police officers!I A unique Joliet experience.
(5)David H.
(5)Eric Q.
hole-e-smokes... look..i may give out a lot of 5 stars but, there is always a good reason. my physical therapist turned me onto this place when i was going through an ACL reconstruction. Right by the Rialto theatre (if it's still there)
(5)Erik J.
(5)D M.
We order this at work sometimes. I am not a big fried chicken person, but the food is good and always hot. They people in there are nice. Its a nice treat.
(4)Aric C.
(5)Cindy B.
the best chicken chunks ever, love, love, love them

(4)Ron S.
The chicken chunks were outstanding. Great flavor and freshness. Went back and forth with hot sauce and the sweet and sour.

Had lunch there the other day, plus brought some home for dinner. Excellent, and nice employees too. The lady at the register was very cheery and fun to talk to. Now I know what a Jo Jo is! The biscuits are awesome. Reasonably priced, better than the other well known place in town...

Best chicken in town!! I love, love, love chicken-n-spice!! Every time I'm around I want and usually get some lol. They're chicken chunks and Jo Jo's are the best.
(5)Christina M.

(3)John S.
Look, its a hole in the wall, greasy fried chicken joint... In the best way! I got the bone-in fried spicy chicken. It was pretty good, but not spicy at all. I also got a small side of the mac-n-cheese bites, and they were awesome!!
(4)Jason R.
(5)Eric S.

(5)Debi S.
If you like chicken tenders, you will love their take on their chicken chunks. Think of them as a fist full of delicious fried white meat chicken with just the right amount of kick in their spices. Love this place!
(5)James P.

(4)Mark P.
This place is a Joliet institution institution! A definite must stop place on the list of Joliet eateries. The staff is always courteous friendly and humble. The chicken is always hot crispy and juicy. Sweet N sour sauce is the best IMO.

The Joliet legend. Everyone that lives here knows this place, and well. The chicken chunks are a MUST. Biscuits Are always warm, soft and good. Even if you don't live in Joliet you have to try this place. I'm not even going out on a limb by saying this is the best chicken I've ever had.
(5)Kayla K.
The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because for some reason my boyfriend loves their chicken. Otherwise i personally think their food is disgusting. The inside interior of the place is nasty also. I won't be eating there ever again.
(3)Olga S.

Chunks...
(4)Alisa M.
(5)Dan C.
