I grew up going to Jacksonville, IL every summer. The Toad was always a staple when we visited, as my grandparents are friends of the owner. I went back this week on a recent trip and I can safely say, it is still a great watering hole. The drinks are inexpensive and the service is good. We sat on the rooftop bar, which is actually a nice atmosphere when the weather is nice. We ordered fried mushrooms, buffalo bleu cheese sticks, and the jeannie pizza. By the time we ordered our food, we had already had quite a few drinks and were happy to have something to munch on. Everything (especially the pizza) was really good! In my opinion, this is the best place to go in Jacksonville, IL if you are looking for a friendly local bar with good prices and yummy food.

The food: we had pizza, and it was pretty great. Only thing is, I wish it was cut into bigger slices. They were like little cubes. And the toppings were like sprinkled on, so it was pretty hard to eat. Little annoying, but very tasty overall. The environment: Awesome! The locals were really crowded in, watching the World Series of the cardinals playing. So it was amazing to be there while they celebrated and laughed together. Also, the waitresses were very nice. Make sure you if are traveling through and eat here, that you put a dollar on their ceiling.

A little crammed but I enjoyed the atmosphere. Pizza was great but I prefer the traditional way to slice a pizza. Can someone please tell me the recipe for the Johns Sauce they serve with the pizza?

Haven't been inside since I was young and the pizza is still great. I think it is better than Leo's across the street but not by much. I heard there is one more place that has better pizza in town but didn't make it on this trip.

My husband and I went here with our two kids (ages 2 and 4). Though not the ideal place for kids, the people were very accommodating. My son got the lasagna , which he devoured- and my kids typically don't eat much, so that was a big deal for us. The pizza was delicious , very thin, crispy crust. Bottom line: I would go back. But probably leave the kids at home so we could relax and have a few drinks and enjoy the cozy bar atmosphere.

friendly place, for being a small town the locals and the owners are friendly and welcome you unlike some of the other bars in the area that are not so welcoming. we go there every year during deer hunting gun season always a great time.

I loved this place when I lived in the area. Great spot to watch a game, with the very friendly locals. Full bar and good food.
