Can I have more than one fish restaurant that I really like?... For those good folks who won't venture into Chicago's Little Village to taste of Troha's; J & J Fish and Chicken is really quite nice. The young man who is either the manager and/or the owner is exceptionally nice. The store although, is more fast food, rather than dine-in, does have a clean eating area with about six booths. There is a television to capture your attention and stop conversation. There was a fair flow of customers - with large orders. My first visit to this restaurant was for my stepfather's sister, Bessie, who wanted "fish". I was not familiar with the area and saw the restaurant in passing. I had to keep running back and forth to the car to let Bessie know of her options, to which the manager was very patient. He showed me a picture of his child, (a sweetie) and we talked kiddies as he prepared the meal. Bessie tasted it as we drove away and said it was just right. The flavor of the fish was fresh and the seasonings just right. Upon my second return, I purchased two other dinners and a small order of shrimp. The shrimp were tasty and a fairly large size, however, not as lite as Troha's in the Little Village. Bessie enjoy her fish and chicken once more and was talked about the right way of cooking fish - J & J's passed the test. The portions, I might add were large - there was enough for a snack for later. J & J's will be my fish restaurant of choice when I'm in the area.

Update **Here is another reason why you should SHOULD NOT EAT SWAI ** globalseafoods.com/tilap… "Swai and basa on the other hand have their own set of problems. Often called pangasius, are actually iridescent sharks. They are commonly found in smaller sizes sold as aquarium fish at pet stores, but that does not cover all of the issues. First of all, nearly all of these fish are produced on the Mekong River in aquaculture facilities. The Mekong River is one of the most polluted rivers in the world, and there is no regulation to filter the water used in these facilities. This can cause heightened levels of heavy metals and toxins from the polluted water. Both fish are not fed anything close to their natural food. They are fed food pellets made from fish remains (often swai and basa remains) mixed with soy and antibiotics. They are also treated without regulation with growth hormones to make them profitable much faster. These fish are also linked to many cases of food poisoning due to contamination from their point of origin. There is no production of such fish in the US or outside South East Asia. For many it can be very tempting to buy fish when it costs $2 per Lbs. at the supermarket, especially when money is tight. But do not forget, that by eating these species of fish, you are often damaging your health. Saving a couple dollars today may cost you thousands in medical bills tomorrow. We usually do not make direct recommendations and usually ask that you make your own judgments. We highly recommend that you do not eat these fish. It says allot when we would eat a big mac before touching tilapia, swai or basa. Think of your health before your wallet the next time you are at the store or are eating out. Do not eat tilapia, swai or basa!

WOW!!!! Let's start with the phone call. I called into this location at noon & asked if it possible for them to fulfill an order of 50 wings and a pan of fries that I needed ready at 4 o'clock on the dot. Of course they said "YES, and we will see you at 4 on the dot ma'am". So of course, after such a pleasant phone conversation, I expected nothing but a pleasant experience from them. I then arrive at the j & j at 3:58 to pick up & pay for my order. Was instead greeted by a young (maybe 15 or 16) year old young man behind the counter that barely spoke English. I informed him that I was there for a 50 wing order placed earlier & gave him the name associated with the order. He then walked in the back to get an older gentleman (I believe he was the manager) who rang me up then walked back to retrieve my food........ So I thought. It is now 4:05 I have no food. I asked how much longer I would have to wait, because I was taking the food to an event and needed my food in a timely manner in order to make it to the event in time. In which he turns with the nastiest attitude and said "the wings take 15 minutes to cook". I insisted that I ordered over the phone & was told the food would be ready at 4. I noticed them packing the wings w/o the fries. So I asked where were the fries, they said they didn't charge me for the fries & I had to pay for those. So I did, because I was so pressed for time. When I received my food I wanted to SCREAM with anger. But I figured it would do me no good. So I want to warn everybody about the HORRIBLE service & mediocre food at this location. This experience had put a damper on my whole evening. They do not deserve to treat anybody else as they treated me, a paying customer.

Great catfish fillets, catfish nuggets and chicken wings. Haven't tried much of anything else on the menu. Small and most people order for pick up, but can dine in if seating is available.
