Wow... Tortillas with flavor? YES One street taco with carné asada, one with El Pastor, rice and homemade refried beans made up my taco platter. El Pastor has just the right marinade and spicy juiciness. The beef was good, but the El Pastor was better! I ate in, so I received chips (home fried) and salsa (made here too) Horchata with a little is was a GREAT accompaniment. Lots of rich cinnamony flavor. A little confusing when you come in, but they have take out AND table service. Food came out quick and hot. I'm coming back here before the trip back to Cali!

Came here for lunch and was disappointed. The line to get food was long, and our wait was even longer. From entering the restaurant to getting out food took about 40 minutes! Quesabroso is clearly short staffed. They had only four people working there total on a Friday during lunch hour. One at the register, two in the kitchen, and one running food. The food itself was just okay. The portion of rice & beans was small, and I felt the whole meal was overpriced for what it was. There's definitely better Mexican joints for lunch.

Great place for a casual authentic Mexican meal. Very casual, you place your order at the counter and they deliver it to your table. Very nice service and will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. They have recently upgraded to the space next door giving them the room they need to serve the large lunch crowd I usually see during the week. I personally love the Chorizo burrito and their chicken enchiladas are wonderful.

I've eaten here a few times and it's been great every time. Their new space is great. I had the 3 taco dinner with pastor, steak, and chorizo. The pastor was the highlight. Tons of flavor.

How Delicious! That's the translation of Quesabroso. It's been about 2 years since I've been frequenting this place with Heather H. I've always known it was here since I used to go to the Greek Deli that used to be next door. Well, now, the Greek Deli closed and Quesabroso got that space as well so they've expanded. I love their chips and salsa, with about 3 orders of their salsa. I just can't get enough. Their entrees are really good too, I rarely get tacos here. To be hones, the tacos could be a little bit better. For entrees I've tried their chicken with mole, enchiladas, flautas or the carne asada which is my favorite. I mean, who doesn't love a big piece of meat! Last time I was there it was lunch time, Angela P, her son and I, I've only been there during dinner. We got sat and then we were able to grab baskets of chips and salsas on our own. I had to ask the lady for a bigger cup than the 2 oz. plastic containers she had out. She didn't mind and grabbed one for me. I ordered the pollo con mole, I remember it being very sweet but I also ordered two grilled jalapenos on the side. Well the flavor of the mole, chicken and grilled jalapenos combined is like no other! Sweet, savory and spicy. I finished the whole plate and didn't feel guilty at all. They even took the bone out of the chicken. How nice. We got up throughout our lunch and got two more basket of chips, you know, since we had my friends son with and he really really loved them. ;) I think I'll be going for lunch more. H? :)

Excellent food and good value. Salsa verde is amazing and has inspired me to start making my own. The decor is nice and the owners and staff are very friendly. Great for the family to dine in quick or order to go. Lunches here get very busy.

I have eaten here twice and I must say I am impressed, this food is really good. The chips and salsa are amazing because the chips are fresh baked and delicious. The salsas are quite good indeed both the green and the red. The first time I had a steak burrito and and Al Pastor taco, I loved the steak as it was cooked right and really tasty and not chewy. The Al Pastor was quite good in it's own way. I just went here again today and I have the Chimichanga which was out of this world good! I ordered it with the hot sauce applied, which is a really tasty red sauce that is oh so good!

Had the Pollo en Mole and it was out of this world! Great space, bright, not much parking. A wonderful value for your $.

Delicious chicken mole enchiladas! This place is in a tiny strip mall and the parking is limited but it is well worth a stop!

We were made aware of this place via Yelp and we're so happy that we were! Really good food at a fair price. The service is a little slow only because they are so busy and did I say the food was very good. They are looking to get their liquor license so we'll be drinking Margarita's soon - hopefully!

Good service...Good Food...I would come back. The meat was tasty and very flavorful......................................

One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area hands down. I would choose here over anywhere else any day. The alpastor is a definite MUST! So is the green salsa yum, everyone come!

  • Gerry D.

Ordered combo fajitas, grande nachos, 3 taco dinner and gauc to go. It took 30 minutes!!! The gauc had NO flavor! The fajitas were good. That 3 taco dinner only had 2 tacos. Never going back to this place!!!

It was a rainy day, and dinner was many hours away, so before I did some shopping I stopped here for lunch. Whether it's lunch, dinner, or maybe sitting in traffic on 290 one more second will make you explode, go to Quesabroso. The Tortilla Soup is practically a meal in itself. It's very flavorful and topped with chunks of avocado, tortilla strips, and melty, stringy cheese. The Street Taco (steak with cilantro and onion) was good, but honestly I'd come back for more tortilla soup and the delicious, complimentary chips and salsa. It seems most Mexican restaurants only get one right, chips OR salsa. Quesabroso does both well. The chips were super fresh, and I couldn't get enough of the green salsa. I washed it all down with a horchata and headed back out into the rain. Quesabroso is a casual restaurant, it isn't a divey tacqueria, or is it an upscale restaurant serving Latin cuisine. It's the Goldilocks of Mexican food, it's juuuuust right! The interior, done mostly in greens, gray and brown, and the rock en Espanol playing softly, sets the stage for a casual, comfortable, an authentic, dining experience.

I so wanted to love this place. I have a serious weakness for a good greasy steak burrito. A little char on some of the ends, a little of that fat that you shouldn't admit to liking, juices that drip down your arm.....the kind that should be best enjoyed at 2-4am. But, I was free for lunch, had driven past this place a few times, and thought I would sample a few items. I came in and decided to get a steak taco (with onions and cilantro), a taco al pastor (with onions and cilantro), and a torta milenesa. The taco al pastor deserves 4 stars. Flavorful and satisfying. The steak taco had no taste. I may have been just eating onions on a warm corn tortilla. The torta's bread and fillings were good and there was ample avacado on it. The meat? Chewy and hard and again, flavorless. The green salsa was ok. The red? Again, flavorless. I wasn't looking for haute cuisine....just some of the grease one expects from a taqueria and street food. The people were nice, the decor though bordering on Chipotle, was clean and fine. Prices are acceptable. Why can't I find good Mexican street food in the near west suburbs?

Quesabroso is like many of the small Mexican food places in the w-burbs offering quality food at a reasonable price. You know the places I mean - Taco Grill and Salsa Bar, Taqueria el Pulpo, Los Burritos Tapatios, Taco Express. This place serves up tasty authentic Mexican fare, but steers clear of ingredients that may scare off its non-Hispanic clientele (such as lengua, tripa and cabeza). That doesn't affect me much, as I'm one of the aforementioned scared eaters. Still, when I see those items on the menu, I do feel like the rest of the food might be a little more authentic. But hey, that's just my theory. I was greeted upon sitting down with a place of still-warm from the fryer tortilla chipas and a bowl of salsa verde. The salsa was good, but mild. For an extra kick, they offer Cholula with lime table side. A carry-out order was offered a choice of salsas (hot or mild). I'm not sure why I didn't get a choice. Not a big deal, though. I ordered a-la-carte: one taco, one tostada and one sope with a variety of ingredients (pollo, steak and al pastor). The tostada and sope came with sour cream, refried beans, lettuce and tomato, while the soft corn tacos were dressed more typically Mexican, with cilantro and onion. My favorite of the bunch was the pollo tostada. The taco al pastor was also excellent, though I saw no evidence of a vertical spit. The sope was less successful -- a little doughey for my taste. Still, the steak on top was plentiful and well-flavored. Next time I'll get it on a tostada instead. I think this is my new favorite non-regional Mexican outside of the city. The food is solid, the portions are large and the bill is small. It's a winning combination.

  • N S.

I don't understand how people call this authentic Mexican food??? There is no flavor whatsoever. The salsas are basically like plain tomato sauce...gross! Will not be back! Total waste of my time and $$.

  • Shoshannah S.

Food is good, but took some of us 45 minutes to an hr to get our food. A couple suggestions to the management: 1. Get ticket number cards to place at the table, so the food runner can find the correct customer. 2. Get tubs to assist person cleaning tables , so they do not need to make multiple trips or wipe table crumbs onto the floor. 3. Do not place takeout orders before dine-in. 4. Appetizer order should come out before main dish; Not with and 45 min after ordering.

I love me some Quesabroso! I lived in Cicero for two years and never thought I would miss seeing a Mexican place every few blocks until I moved down the street from Quesabroso. The only other "Mexican" around is Taco Bell. sad face. Every time I come here, I try something new. Each time it just gets better! First, it gives me a place to grab a couple of churros. I can never get too many churros. Second, the flautas! Apparently, I love mexican phallic shaped foods. None the less, I could live on their flautas and churros. It doesn't get any better!

  • Jacqueline S.

There are very few good Mexican places in the area (I work in the area) that I have found. I do like the couple that run the place (literally only a nice man and woman) and they work very hard. The food is okay but I would say good for the area and I like to support this locally owned place and the free chips and salsa so I bump it up from 2 to 3 stars.

    (3)
  • David L.

No words..just good. It seems like a family owned place. Crave the homemade tortilla chips (I think they are homemade). The meat is fantastic. The salsa is addictive.

  • Laura A.

I love this place. The food is fresh and flavorful. I frequently order a steak tostada. The tortilla chips are freshly fried. The staff is great. There is only one cook, and he is very friendly. Their servers are all attentive and kind.

Nice for a happy hour! They have excellent apps and dishes and good drinks. The atmosphere is perfect for after work drinks. I would suggest this place to anyone looking for a good time!

  • Kourtney H.

Went to lunch here yesterday and I ordered the chicken nachos, my husband ordered a steak burrito with extra meat. You get a lot of food for the price you are paying which is great. The chips are more gourmet than just chips you buy from the store, which are out of a bag; there light and fluffy, however, some of them are a little too greasy for my liking. The only other negative aspect about the place would be it isn't the cleanest place in the world, the tables and chars are sticky and I almost didn't want to sit down and eat just because of that. I'm glad I did stay and ate though because it was very good, I would go back just wish it was a little cleaner. Also, free chips and salsa!

I have now been here 3 times in the last 7 days. Yes I am currently obsessed. I'm in the middle of a move and have no food at my apartment or my house. The owner already remembers me and we'll probably be on a first name basis by the end of the month. The second time my friend and I showed up, he gave us tortilla soup on the house and it was excellent! I've never had avocado in it before and now I won't be able to go without it again. The chips and salsa are awesome; both the red and the green. My friends and I keep finishing both containers. I would honestly get chips and salsa takeout on its own. I've had the carne asada, cheese enchiladas with mole and the steak enchiladas with red salsa. All were fantastico! The mole was sweeter than others I've had, but I loved it. This has definitely become my go-to Mexican joint and it should be yours, too. If you live or work near Wolf and 22nd Street, check out Quesabroso!

I have worked at two different offices in this area, and at both places, Quesabroso is my lunch group's favorite lunch spot. I love their chips and salsa -- always so fresh! Their guacamole is also very good. I always get a steak torta and have never been disappointed. If you're there at lunchtime on a weekday, be prepared to wait a little bit for your food because they're always packed!

Basic Mexican American food prepared fresh. Passed this place daily for years now and finally stopped in. And now when we feel like Mexican we come here. Chips are fried here and doesn't come from a bag. Food prepared quickly so you can make that quick stop for delicious food. I order the carne asada everytr me. Guacamole is fresh. Tortilla soup is very tasty. They have a bustling take out business.

I always pass the 4 storefront building off of Wolf Rd. but never went in here as I mistook this as a Chipotle-like Mexican restaurant that's geared towards gringos, ala high prices for small portions. That couldn't have been any further from the truth. Decided to patronize Quesabroso from all the positive reviews as that many yelpers can't be wrong. Inside was absolutely immaculate! Probably the most upscale taqueria interior I've ever seen. Place looked as it was run by a husband-wife team which is always a good sign. They have the kitchen visible enough to where you can see the guy cook the food and all the food near him look quite fresh. They had aluminum foil pans of tortilla chips, which might suggest that they make their own chips. I got the Milanesa (breaded steak) torta and they really packed in a lot of ingredients for $5.49, especially the guacamole. Very delicious! Also got the al pastor burrito and again, top notch! The hot sauces were perfect as they weren't too hot or too mild, just right. My uncle couldn't believe how big of a steak they give you for the $9.99 carne asada dinner and that it was a ribeye and not a thin piece of flank steak. Excellent place!!!

Modern on the inside, divey on the outside. This place has pretty tasty tortilla soup which is served with fresh sliced avocado and giant strips of crunchy fried tortillas. I sort of expected the consistency to be thicker, but realized later that if you let it sit long enough, the tortillas in the bottom will soak up soup and give it that nice chunky chili-ish consistency that I've grown to love in tortilla soup. The chips and salsa (free and self serve?) were quite tasty and seem to be real tortillas fried up in the back. The only disappointing thing was the dessert. I was really looking forward to the tres leches cake (that was on special today) but it almost seemed like the cake part was dry... which is really surprising considering it's literally soaked with sweetened milk. I mean, I know it's usually tough to keep it from getting overly soggy, but this cake had a very dry consistency despite the milk and in my opinion needed an extra dollop of whipped cream on top. Cake mishap aside, I'll totally try this place again... and next time order something with more substantial!

We go here for lunch from work all the time. It can get crazy busy right at noon but the line always moves fast and it is so worth it. The pork tacos with cilantro and onion are great and the two salsas are good...spicy but not too spicy.

  • Kelly M.

I love this place so much! The mole is amazing. Try the pollo con mole and you'll never go anywhere else. Also, the enchiladas con mole are fantastic, too. And don't forget to try the chips and salsa. The chips are actual fried tortillas, so it doesn't get better than that. This place has changed significantly in the two years I've been coming here. It used to be a hole in the wall place, but every time I visit, something has been added or changed. The new layout is more open, modern and chic. It's a small operation consisting of a cashier/waitress/jill of all trades and a cook in the back. You order at the counter and they bring your food out a few minutes later. Try to take your lunch there before or after 1 p.m. if you want to eat inside the restaurant as there aren't a ton of tables and parking in this strip mall can be dicey.

We had high hopes based on the past reviews. I took my 3 kids there (10, 14, and 16) for a quick dinner. Service was efficient. The place smelled like a bathroom. The chips and salsa were good and homemade. The rice was dry and bland. We had steak tacos which were decent. My son had a burrito and he said all he could taste was the steak (which was tasty), but he'd like more to taste in his burrito. My daughters cheese quesadillas were bland. All food was in general mediocre. The place smelled. Not worth returning. Disappointed.

Discovered this gem in 2012 and have been back many times. Amazing food!! Everything we have tried has been fantastic. The chips are addicting! The carne asada is amazing. Definitely a favorite for Mexican food!!

Authentic Mexican food, served very quick! But it is high quality and delicious for a very reasonable price, and they have coke in a glass bottle, you don't see that very often anymore...

Excellent Platter called Quesa Broso, chicken Enchilada was brilliant. Chicken steak was big and tasty. This place could have been even better if they served a mexican beer with the food. Will definitely go back to try other dishes :)

We eat here at least three times a month! The taco's are the best around and the carne is quit tasty! The guacamole could do with a little less onion but over all the food here is great! The prices are good and the staff is always friendly! They have done some remodeling and added beer and margaritas to the menu since they switched ownership. Keep up the good work!!

I went here a few days ago as I was coming back from Oak Brook Mall and at first I was pushed away because of the curb appeal. The restaurant sign is nice and big but they should've used a bolder design/style. The strip mall it is located in looks bland and old, but that's not the restaurant's fault. In fact, that's the only tiny strip mall you will see if you stopped and looked around. Opposite of it is a gated golf course and all around it are residential areas. STILL, don't be put off by the bland and walk on in, you will like it! Actually I turned around because I was turned off, but then I thought that the surroundings should not be a judge of what's inside and what they have to offer. I walked in and the decor was actually pretty modern. It's like night and day when you walk in, I was taken back. There are little annoyances like being able to see into the kitchen which did not match the rest of the place, the mismatched bulbs, that cheap, plastic cactus that should be thrown into the trash, etc. But overall it's a good design. Once you sit down (you pick your own seat) you will be greeted by a lady who is probably the owner of the place. She isn't actually dressed professionally but she's got an apron so I guess that counts for something. But what really matters is that she's nice. Not that "Super attentive waiter who wants a tip" nice but the "I'm here to serve you food like your mom or friendly aunt" nice. So she asked me if I wanted mild or hot sauce and I chose hot. Two minutes later she gave me a menu, some nachos, and hot sauce in a professional white tea cup and saucer. (I can't call it hot sauce because it wasn't sauce, it was more of a watery type, but still good) So their tools are professional, but their service style is that of an average Mexican restaurant, you know, the ones that don't stand out. But hey, as long as the service is good, then I'm fine with it. I was satisfied with the service for what it offered. If you are looking for the "tip waiter" experience, then go somewhere else. There ain't no sweet talkin' here :D BTW, the nachos were a bit too oily but the "sauce" was good. I ordered the Mixed Fajitas with flour tortillas. There is also choice of corn. I typically substitute the guacamole for sour cream but I wasn't asked for that option. Maybe next time. I got my food after a 10 minute wait, so that was good. It was served on the sizzling pan and for the most part mirrored professional restaurant tools. The food tasted great. The chicken had the right amount of seasoning, the steak was cooked well done even though I didn't ask. That's the way I like it though :D The veggies were cooked just right as the tomatoes tasted like tomatoes, which is usually a miss at most places. The tortillas were cooked right, but nothing spectacular. So overall the food was good, above average, but nothing spectacular. For a restaurant in that location it was great. If I go by that area I will stop in again. BTW they serve canned or bottled drinks, no fountain machines.

I eat here 3-4 times per week. Expensive for a taco place ($2.50 for a standard $1.60 taco), but VERY good food. The man and woman that own/operate the location are very nice. Free chips and salsa (unofficially all you can eat) that you grab on your own.

We love this place. Quiet. Small. And authentic flavors . Tried almost everything on the menu 5 star on everything except for the burrito. For me thats a 3 star. The steak is very tasty. Haven't tried chicken nor beef. Hooked on the steak.

I really want to give this place a 5 star, reason you might ask, the people that run this place I think are a married couple and are super nice every time I've walked in. I've only had the tacos when here, the steak is grade a quality meat, the Al Pastor (marinated pork) tacos are also good, the only down fall of this place which I have to agree with the April C. the portions are huge, the tacos are super packed with meat, they sometimes almost over do it with seasoning. I've worked in Mexican restaurant for 10 years, so I think I could tell which places are good and authentic and which ones are not. This place is authentic and decent, if they were to tweak a couple of things here and there, this place would probably be the best Mexican place around this area. Final thought, if you want quality food for a good price and you like huge portions this is the place to go. Have nothing bad to say about the place, it's clean and service is good, food is served nice and hot. But can't give it a 5 star yet, hope this place makes it in the long run. Gotta be honest, you can tell this is probably the first place these people have owed by the popcorn machine in the corner, but I think they can make it. If Quesabroso is reading this, get rid of the popcorn machine it sticks out like a sore thumb, and if you ever want anymore suggestion on how to make your place better send me a message.

It took me a while to get it. Que sabroso! How delicious! Very apropo. Guacamole is fantastic. Large chunks of avocado, freshly made, tomatoes, cilantro. Fresh fried homemade chips - seems like from flour tortillas. I had a torta. The milanese. Refried beans, cheese, avocado. The bread was freshly baked, soft and delicious. The meat was a little on the thin side and seemed over cooked. My husband had the tortilla soup. It chocked full of tortilla strips, had a smoker tasting broth, had cheese, avocado and sour cream. He said it was really good. Service was a little on the slow side, for being the only customers in the store. However, they seemed to have several 'to go' orders they were working on. We also tried their churros. I asked for them after my dinner, but I don't think they heard me. So I got them with my dinner. They were drizzled with chocolate and served with a small glass of liquid chocolate on the side. They were okay, a little too greasy and not really a standout. Nice presentation on all the dishes. I would definitely come back her again.

I've been going to this place since it opened years ago. I absolutely love it. Since then I've brought friends and business associates there for lunch. The quality is really spectacular and despite the small staff, service has always been very good. I typically get their Quesa Broso Carne Asada or their Bistec a la Mexicana- both are so juice and flavorful for a cut of meat that can be notoriously hard to cook with any precision. I've also had their Pollo con Mole, which is outstanding. The mole (negro) is made per order and is just fantastic! The portion size is large and their chips are made fresh every day. This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to for the size, menu and cost. I highly recommend it!

I eat here at least once a week. The service is always great. This is the perfect place for lunch. I have never had any complaints about the place. The steak is amazing. The chicken is well seasoned and very flavorful. The pork and chorizo is also great. The ground beef is lacking in flavor, but everyone that goes there knows to get the steak instead. They also offer free tortilla chips and homemade salsas. Anyone could easily get filled up with $6.

WE LOVE THIS PLACE!!! We eat here 3 times a week. Everything is excellent from the tacos to the fajita sizzling skillet. The guacamole is the best. Try this place you will definitely fall in LOVE just like we did.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
