Terrible experience. We ordered 80 wings for our New Years day party 4 days in advance. The guy on the phone said no problem and took my name and phone number. Four days later when I went to pick them up on NY's day, they had never heard of me or my order and said there was no way they could make them for me. They didn't even have 80 wings in the kitchen. Basically too bad for me. Furious! Luckily Buffalo Wild Wings was happy to fill my order last minute and we will be taking our business there from now on.

This place is starting to win me over! The service is improving... And they have always had good food and good prices. Hubby and I have been back a few more times and each time it's a bit better. Go on Tuesdays for $3 burgers! They are delish. The turkey burger is yummy with a salad on top. I think it's $4 for that one on Tuesdays. We have gone back other nights, ate at the bar, went with friends, and ordered out to take home. I can't complain about any of those times. I'm only giving 3 stars because I was so disappointed with the service early on that they have to "earn" those last two stars... We'll see of they make it happen!

Fantastic beer list. A lot on tap too. Look for great specials almost every night. They also have an inventive food menu that is hyper-seasonal (they had pumpkin roasted duck confit when I was there). Great bar. Would come back.

Dinner with a great friend of mine. Food was very good. Appetizer, a burger and the house made donuts and coffee. Topped it off with a band that was pretty darn good. Next time I'll stay later to hear more of the band...not quite enough time to really unwind. Great Saturday night spot.

I really like this place. The beer is always new and different, they actually hand you a clipboard full of your beer choices. And the menu has such a variety, everything from buffalo chicken wontons (my wife's favorite) to a great sausage and cheese plate that would make anyone be happy, filled with saurcraut, potatoes, cheese and sausages (trust me, try it). This is definately one of my go-to places when I want to go to a bar without a dingy, dirty barlike atmosphere.

The first time coming here was some time ago, can't remember what I had - only remember that it was dried out and over priced. I was NOT impressed. After returning several times more I would say the food isn't terrible, but nothing to write home about. I've had some things I enjoyed, like the Greek salad that's no longer listed as an option but you can still ask for it. I could be entirely wrong but I feel like this is the sort of place that will constantly be changing its menu. Their menu is trendy, so they have things like a BLT with an entire pound of bacon. Items like that won't last long, just like the Greek salad didn't last very long. I have yet to have something so mouthwatering good that I would return JUST to have it again. Seems that this is more of the place that we just end up at. They do have a good selection of craft beers, and I have always been pleased with the service. So overall, this place is good, not GREAT.

Was served raw chicken. When they presented me with the new plate I discovered they had taken my buffalo chicken covered in sauce and blue cheese an put it back in the fryer. It was disgusting. Fried pickles are really more like cucumber. Stew vegetables were almost raw. Beer is overpriced. Stay away unless you have an iron belly.

customer service sucks! they take forever to bring the food, also their flat bread is so oily. I really liked their hummus, but it was way to pricey.

Service was good, lots of options and taste was ok. A decent place to go if you want a variety of options. I tried their 'jerk' wings and had low expectations, and was not disappointed since expectations weren't high. I had a pulled pork sandwich also, and had bar food expectations and was not disappointed. :-)

I am never going back to this restaurant. Our party of four (including one child) went to the THG in Highwood for my brother-in-laws birthday on recent Tuesday in October 2012. We went early, on purpose, to take advantage of their Half Price Appetizers from 4-6pm. My bro-in-law liked their cheese curds, and since it was his birthday, he "wasn't sharing" his curds with the rest of us. So we knew we would be ordering a few different appetizers in addition to dinner for a Big Night Out. Apparently THG's Half Price Appetizer promotion, aimed at getting customers in their door before the normal dinner rush, was working because all three tables in the bar area (promo good only in bar) were filled with families. It was here that service started to deteriorate. We told our hostess we were there to take advantage of the appetizer special, and she said the tables in the bar were filled and we couldn't sit at the actual bar due to my underage nephew being in our party. Sure, we didn't have an issue with that. Even though every other table in the entire restaurant was empty, our hostess just stood there looking at us. Sooooo, we prodded her if we could sit one of the many other empty tables. Unable to make that huge decision by herself, she went to ask the manager behind the bar if that was okay. After some gesturing and some eye rolling (heelllllooo...you are 25 feet away from me and I can see you, manager!) our hostess came back and said she would seat us at a table. As we followed our hostess through the bar and past the manager, I saw the manager mouth to the hostess "just one." I took that to mean we were getting just one appetizer at half price. Well, I wont go through the play-by-play of how our exchange with our waitress went down. But it was true, just one appetizer at half price...because we weren't sitting in the "bar", because their appetizer promotion was a success in bringing customers in to their restaurant during slow business hours (at least filling the three tables in the bar area)...because the manager couldn't rub two brain cells together and decided it was more profitable for the restaurant to get their extra $3 by selling a second or third appetizer at full price than it would be to fill a table in an otherwise empty dining area knowing we would be ordering dinner and drinks too. As Highwood is filled with many interesting restaurants, we simply decided we would be spending our money elsewhere. We walked out, went to a nearby restaurant and had a wonderful birthday celebration in a welcoming atmosphere...never again to set food in Tap House Grill.

Tried Tap House Grill the other day. Menu fit my teenagers perfectly but poor lunchtime service made it not worthwhile. Had to get up to go find the waitress three times including to get the check. Food was delievered and things were missing and the waitress never stopped by to ask if we got everything. Couldn't find her to get the check. Etc. the place was half empty at lunch too, i hope someone there reads these and realizes they need to make sure the staff pays attention to patrons.

Average food, great beer selection. service was slow. Lots of folks standing around.. seemed like the wait staff acould use some training. If you're looking for a good place for brews and watching sports.. this is the place. For food.. go elsewhere

Tuesday is burger night. $4 buys you a turkey patty and bun. Any veggies are $1 extra. It was really tasty! Didn't feel like they were trying to cheapen it at all. The other food our tab,e ordered was also great.

A regional chain restaurant that feels local! This is a review of the Highwood location only. Right off the bat, I must admit I am surprised to find a low rating for this place. We've eaten here 4-5 times (a mix of lunch and dinner) and never had a less than enjoyable experience. The kitchen is churning out good food that's cooked just right. The ambiance and decor is a bit bland, but they have a good beer selection and food to make up for it. We ordered the super hot habanero wings, which are served with a glass of milk and plain bread (to emphasize the hotness and put out the fire in your mouth - see picture) and they were excellent. Obviously hot, but packed with flavor. The chicken itself was perfectly crisp and a good size wing. The wings were also accompanied with an excellent ranch and blue cheese dip which tasted fresh, and not out of a box. For our entree we had Kobe beef burgers which were cooked to a perfect medium rare doneness (see picture) and very well seasoned; Served with fire topped with Parmesan and garlic. The burger was very tasty, but didn't necessarily have the freshness of true Kobe (even the American kind) beef meat. It was also accompanied by some thick sliced crunchy pickle rounds (a bit too tart for me), and coleslaw (which we didn't need since there was plenty good going in with the burger. For dessert, we had the carol's cookie (local bakery that got nationwide fame in the 80s, for those who are not from Chicagoland) with Homer's vanilla bean ice cream and hot fudge. The cookie was just OK since it was a bit hard around the edges which shouldn't be he case if you warm it up OK but the fudge and ice cream were just divine. We ended up asking for more fudge coz we were eating it by the mouthful. Overall, once again, the sports bar/neighborhood restaurant offered up a terrific meal and service (thanks to our very attentive server, Ray) and earned a solid 4 star rating. I will say that we have only gone to tap house during off peak hours - weekday lunch or early dinners and therefore cannot comment on the service during busy times...

Crispy-Fried Bacon Staff Favorite! Signature Pepper-Sugar Bacon, dipped in Beer Batter and Fried, Served with Roasted Parmesan Ranch Dressing and Pepper Jack Chipotle Cheese Sauce for Dipping - $8.49 Did somebody say "BACON"? Ummmm.... Better yet, DEEP FRIED BACON??? That's all I've really gotta' say folks.... DEEP FRIED BACON! You be the judge. Just be sure to save some for me! This place is great. It's a fantastic spot to grab the game, indulge in some great grub (DEEP FRIED BACON) or, just do some chillaxin' with your friends. It's extremely clean and pleasantly homey. When you're in doubt and looking for a great new place, Tap House will have you covered!

Lordy bagordy, this place is one of Dante's rings of hell. It looks so inviting from the outside. It has a really good beer list. The menu sounds like it's gonna make yr taste buds argue yr body for the bajillion calories that are about to snake down yr gullet. But then, the service occurs. Everyone working there acts as if they are pouring their dying life into some community service sentence. If they were merely indifferent, I'd knowingly nod my head to them. But from what I have gathered, they willingly work at Tap House. You could not tell from how put out they are by the most reasonable asks or reminders of what they forgot. I have been there a dozen times, and they are always somehow understaffed and incapable of serving food at a warm temperature. They are the only bar-food joint in town, so I'm not just idiotically LARPing into the place, but when you want a burger and a good beer, it somehow lures your once-bitten self back in. Do not fall pray to the poutine. The more exotic the dish (as if poutine is exotic), the more watered down their version. Stick to burgers, beers and immense patience. It should be known that they have plenty of screens for competitive footballing and hockeying events, but it is where one would go if there is no other option for sporting fanatics. I had to run from there during a Hawks finals game to Toadstool's to catch any semblance of engagement.

Don't understand how this place is still in business. *Fried Chicken was completely raw * Either the French fries were cooked in old oil or they have just been refried countless times in hope that somebody would finally eat them * Waited an hour to get food Basically they served us putrid horse droppings PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WE SPENT 90 DOLLARS ON ABSOLUTE RHINO FECAL MATTER

This is the review we've been waiting to write for two years. When we first moved to the Highwood area, Tap House Grill had great food, service, location, and atmosphere. Somewhere along the line those first two fell-off to just good. That ended tonight. The Tap House we frequented on this Wednesday night had great food including a bruschetta pomodoro appetizer, the burger special, and prime rib dip. Waitress was friendly, helpful, and fast. Perhaps it was our coming at an off-peak time but whatever the reason, Tap House is back on track. Keep up the good work!

Food was ok. Service was terrible. Our server had no concept of customer service. Gave us attitude for ordering more Parmesan and forgot our water order completely. Place was dead on a Friday and after our experience I can certainly see why. We even got charged for asking for some extra Parmesan. See photo

Whatever you do, don't order the bacon potato skins! They cost almost $10 and aren't the usual size potato skins. No, these are about the size of a silver dollar. Pathetic! And our server ignored us when it was time to settle up & leave so that he could settle up all of his checks so that he could leave. This place is such a joke that I don't see how it's still in business since it's hardly ever packed when I drive past.

In my entire career of beer drinking, I've never come across the apparently famous Root Beer beer. It's exactly what it sounds like -- alcoholic root beer. It tastes like they threw a double shot of whiskey in a pint of root beer, so if you're into that kind of taste, definitely pick one up. They have a pretty extensive beer selection on tap, but unfortunately, quite a few of them were tapped out by around 9pm on Wednesday (company holiday party -- don't ask), which is pretty lame. I was looking forward to having some Delirium Tremens for some throwback giggles from when I backpacked through Belgium with some college buddies, but that was one of the unfortunate lot that was out. Food-wise, it's pretty standard. I got there late and didn't get a chance to try out all the dinner entrees the company got us, but I thought the grilled salmon and the calamari were pretty good. They have a pretty nice nacho and bean dip too. Overall, 3.5 stars because they couldn't keep their taps running. Maybe I just caught them on the bad part of the week and they get fresh kegs on Thursday, but it would've been nice to try out the rest of the beers too. Otherwise, it's a solid place for food and drink!

10pm on a Saturday night I ordered simple burger. While the Burger was dry, the fresh cut fries came out cold with no one piece larger than an inch! it was if the portion was sitting in the kitchen and was the left over pieces. When I complained, I was told the little pieces were because they were "fresh cut"! Really? Never had little pieces like that in any restaurant

So we were feeling a bit too scummy to eat dinner out tonight, but we were on the search for quality take out food for our boys. No frozen pizza. No fast food pizza. No fast food period. Wanting to support a business in the local community, we hopped on the online menu for Tap House Grill, and sure enough they have kids meals for $5.99! We called in our order for pickup. Boys had grilled and fried chicken fingers and french fries coated with parmesan cheese. Each meal had the choice of fruit, fries, or taters, fountain drink and ice cream. Unfortunately carryout doesn't come with ice cream. Had I noticed sooner, I would have asked for a cookie or some other kind of dessert replacement. All in all my kids gave their dinner a big two thumbs up, and as parents we felt like we saved them from junky quickie meals. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich that came with onion strings, parmesan fries and coleslaw. The sandwich was loaded with large chunks of meat, not stringy like I expected. it was juicy with a tangy sweet sauce and pretty rich. I wasn't sure I would make it through the sandwich, but it was too good to not finish. Everything on the menu here looks fantastic. They also serve food from local purveyors. I have also been told Sunday is unlimited fried chicken night. Happy hour $5 appetizers from 4-6! I'll be back!

Tap House is still 3 stars in my book - but something has changed, and I don't know that I can say for the better. A lot of the sandwiches now come on bread other than just a brioche bun. For example, my bf ordered the 1lb BLT last night, and said the bread was so hard (it was like a crusty, toasted, thick-sliced ciabatta or sourdough) he couldn't really eat it. I understand that when you have that much bacon on a sandwich you want a heartier bread to hold up to it, but he said it wasn't even chewable. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, but asked that they put it on a regular bun rather than the ciabatta bread it was supposed to come on. That's all well and good, but the bun was burnt! They toasted it so dark that I couldn't even really believe it was allowed to leave the kitchen that way. They also cut the sandwich in half for me before it left the kitchen, which to me, was made to mask the fact that the chicken portion seems to have gotten smaller. The flavor on the buffalo chicken was still good, the fries were nice as always, however, something was just... missing from the whole experience. Also, the first two beers I tried to order, they were out of. "Tap House." Doesn't quite make sense, does it? We did order the cheese curds, with buffalo style sauce on the side rather than being tossed - those were the highlight of the meal for sure. They do have a special fall menu that will be going on during the Highwood Pumpkin fest. While I'm not a fan of eating pumpkin flavored things, there was some stuff on that special menu that looked like it could be pretty good. Might have to give Tap House another shot during that time. All in all, it's still a decent standby, but it seems like the quality and quantity of items that have been on the menu longer are dropping a bit, maybe because they've added some new items lately?

2nd time in a year here, and my oh my... downhill it went. It seemed average and overrated when I first came, and is just bad now. Increasingly blah beer choices, and the old ailments of lacking creativity, average presentation(the picture of the fries on a recent review below is sadly accurate) and preparation, and substandard server attention has just escalated. Not worth another visit until they get their act together. What are you guys doing? Great location, technically a great concept, and then this? Come on.

Although the food is delicious I never really enjoy my experience at Tap House. The bar is trapped between an identity crisis of being a sports bar and a family restaurant. It's super noisy everywhere inside no matter how many people are there and there's constantly kids running around jumping on the booth seats. On the up side the food is always great which keeps us coming back again and again. The cheese curds are one of my favorites outside of the Wisconsin state line. Every entree I've had has been spot on, and the desserts are scrumptious. The beer menu is pretty good too, tho you'll never know what will be on tap and what they'll be out of. I may stick to take out from now on or sit outside while the weather permits but I don't know how often I'll be back to endure the noisy hassle of sitting inside.

I went here last night for dinner and drinks. I prepared myself for the fact that this is a bar and I should expect to be eating "bar food". I was deciding between blackened tilapia tacos or the blue cheese, pecan apple salad. I went with the tacos. While we waited for dinner we got drinks. Root beer BEER from a local brewer was delicious and so my glass of wine was also a great cabernet . I was disappointed when they came out because they tasted like they had been sitting for quite some time. The tortilla was soggy and the fish was luke warm at best. This could have something to do with the fact that they seemed short staffed and they may have brought our food out way after it was prepared. I really want to give them 3.5 stars if possible as the drinks are unique and always changing with the season which is great. And overall the ambiance is nice. They have live bands weekly. Overall, I plan to go back for drinks and I will plan to try something different on the menu and hopefully I will be happily surprised. Until next time.

I give them a 4 because there food is really good but there service is sub par! It takes FOREVER to get your food...they rarely check in on you and 1 time I was actually told my party would be kicked out because we were too loud and disturbing guests (it was Fri evening - all teacher gathering 10 peps) Def yummy food and great drink specials!

We came on a Tuesday night cause they had an awesome burger deal. When our waiter came to our table, he seemed aggrevated for no reason. We ordered the fried bacon as an appetizer and those were quite delicious. For our main course, we both ordered blue cheese burgers. They were alright but the price was great! Our bill came out to be $25 all together...can't complain. The server's attitude could of made the experience a whole lot better. I'll return to Tap House for their excellent prices and pretty good food

Really liked our waiter, he was friendly and attentive. Restaurant had a decent crowd for a Saturday, no wait. We ordered the drunken shrimp appetizer, which I thought was eh. Shrimp tasted a little too fishy for me but the sauce was delish, especially with the bread dipped in it. Mom and sister were happy with the app. I got the pesto bacon and chicken wrap. Didn't have enough pesto to really be considered a "pesto wrap" but overall flavor was yummy. Chose tots as my side and the waiter (accidentally) mentioned that the tots are not homemade and come from Sysco. They were pretty tasty nonetheless. Mom got the prime rib dip and was pleased. Sister got the salmon, relatively small portion. She was picking at my dish after she finished hers. Relatively good experience, especially since we had a $15 off coupon.

Food is awesome, used to go there for pot roast night every week until they stopped ..service is always a failure I went there at least 15 times by now and every time it's the same. It takes at least 5 mins to get noticed then you sit down you wait 10 mins for anyone to acknowledge you exist ...then another 10 to get a menu etc...annoying . and this was either when the whole restaurant was empty or busy same Crappy service.

Came here for round two and mainly to try out the food this time around. I was expecting to at least bump up my rating to 4 stars but I'm keeping it where its at :( Service was ok but not nearly as good as the first time we came in, we even questioned if the kid was high lol. I got the Poutine Burger which was cooked perfectly and tasted mmm mmm good. My girlfriend got the pesto chicken and bacon wrap which wasn't exactly how she thought it would be (she was hoping it would be cold and the pesto was a pesto ranch and came on the side). We also shared the loaded bacon ranch chips which were pretty damn good but sooo much season salt and slightly too little toppings so after a while it was a bit too much sodium. I was extremely happy to see that they carried nosferatu on draft, but the rest of their list just seems less extensive then it was before. Plus they were out of 3 of the beers i wanted to try for the flight. Long story short, i will return at least once more because i really want to like this place more and they are just falling short on some stuff, especially for how expensive it is (in comparison, it is a little on the pricey side but not crazy expensive)

Great beer selection and my server was amazing. Besides that is a pass. Not my first visit but likely my last. The food isn't good. I got the kabobs and the portion was good size but even with the sauce it was absolutely tasteless. Literally not a drop of salt. You have to marinate kabobs for crying out loud. This makes me wonder how a chef can let that get by but then you have to consider that they don't really have a chef, just line cooks. Kind of inexcusable. I'm sorry guys, just really weak kabobs and they are amongst my favorite foods.

I wish I could give 0 stars. I started coming when they opened. Fantastic service and specials. Last 6 months or so I need to leave my seat to even get a bill, food, or another drink. No one seems to care. I was also emailed a special for Madi gras and said nothing on time limit. I guess all the specials start at 5pm ( which isn't noted). They lost my business and hopefully more. Your better off going somewhere that cares about your business. Also charging $2 for an apple for my child... Insane!!

Absolutely the worst chopped salad I've ever had. Wet lettuce. Some kind of Nasty bitter taste. 90% lettuce. Awful. The good news is, they took it back when I let them know I couldn't eat it. Only took 20 minutes to get a servers attention.

You can go to a million places for basic American food. To stay in business in Highland Park/Highwood, Service is your #1 priority. It is what your customers want. Tap House Food = Fine. Tap House Service = Lousy. Not just one waiter, the entire staff seemed lackadaisical.

Tap House is a welcome addition to Highwood. Huge on tap beer selection and a diverse menu with something for everyone. The few times my husband and I have been there the food we have tried has been delicious and the owners and staff have been very friendly and welcoming. It's also right across from the Metra Union Pacific North Line, so if you can take advantage of that after imbibing it's an added bonus! Give it a try!

I've been here a couple of times and based on my experience, I'd give them a solid two and a half stars. The first time I came with a group of seven and we sampled a number of things from the fish tacos to the salads. I'd liken this place to a privately owned Chili's, so mostly the stuff is kind of fair in quality. I thought my fish tacos were competent, but a little overcooked. The second time I went, I ordered the pot roast nachos, which were exactly as they sounded and a perfect late night food after a night of beering. The portion really was enough for three of us to share and really hit the spot. The slow braised pot roast shreds on the nachos were just what the doctor ordered. Service can be okay to nonexistant, since the second time I was there although they had live music, there were no servers in sight. I had to order all drinks and food at the bar. There are quite a few nice beers on draught and the bartender was happy to help me find a perfect lager and taste one before I decided. This place can get busy at times. It's a comfortable bar atmosphere. I'll go here when my friends insist, otherwise I'm ambivalent about the place.

We go here off and on as it's close to our house. The food is pretty average and I'd say overpriced for what you get. Service is fine, but, again, doesn't really match the prices. Decent place to go if you're looking to catch the game while eating as they have a lot of TVs set up, but I'd say, for the price, there are numerous other restaurants in the area worth trying.

Decided to hang out in Highwood this past weekend and enjoy Highwood's Pumpkin Fest so, we made reservations at Tap House Grill for a party of 4 for dinner. We were running a little late so, we called and gave them a head's up and they happily changed our reservation to 6:30PM. This doesn't always happen at restaurants so, we were very pleased that THG accommodated our change. Tap House Grill has several locations in Illinois and we go to the Highwood, Il location. THG is not pretentious, just good old fashioned comfort food amped up on flavors and ingredients which put a unique spin on your grandma's dishes. We ordered the fully loaded Potato Skins & BBQ Nachos. Gotta say, we enjoyed every last delicious savory bite. YEP we ate everything. The BBQ Pot Roast meat was tender and flavorful on the Nachos, I could've eaten an entire plate of just meat. My hubby and I shared one of our fav's Apple & Brie Flatbread and the trio of Blue Cheese Tenderloin Sliders. Right combination of blue cheese, grilled red onions, arugula & tender, sweet beef tenderloin. Delicious! Our companions both enjoyed the Crispy Shrimp Tacos & Steak Taco Platter. Both dishes came with 3 Tacos and good side portions of black beans and rice. Our server Ryan, was very professional and provided tip-top service. THG is known for their unique and different varieties of Beer. Great place to go for good food and drinks.

I decided to give Tap House Grill a second try after getting a bite to eat when sick. I remembered it was food and it was good after being sick. But, I wanted to give it another whirl when Raisin Bran was even tasty. My girlfriend and I went to get a filling lunch around one. We were greeted by a friendly host who let us pick wherever we wanted to sit which is always great. We tried to order cheese curds to start for an appetizer. But, they ran out of enough ingredients! However, we got calamari and those were satisfying enough. I got a nice strawberry lemonade without liquor. But, it tasted somewhat strong from what I originally remembered it to be. Then, we both ordered the Chicken Milanese Linguine. We waited about fifteen to twenty minutes for it (a reasonable wait) and finally we got our food. I devoured the pasta like no other. It was some of the best pasta ever. They dominate it the smoothness of the sauce and combination of the chicken. After, we looked at deserts. But, they were way too pricy for the fifty dollars we already spent. Overall, Tap House Grill in Highwood has a very positive attitude and serves very thick and filling pastas and burgers. If I had to complain about anything is it is a bit pricy and the bathroom isn't gross but it is for sure falling apart. However, Tap House is definitely a must visit when driving along Sheridan or Green Bay!

The only reason I'm even giving 2 stars is because the food and beer selection was actually really good. But the service was god awful. Terribleeeeeeeee. We got there for our reservation; they said they didn't have it, but I could see or group listed in the reservation book. We waited 20 min to be seated. Waited another 10 minutes for a drink order, despite the fact that the restaurant was slow. We had to physically get out of our seats to get the server for food orders, more drinks, and the bill. I think the server was smoking pot in the bathroom (no joke). Just awful service. Awful awful awful.

We were coming through town for a bachelor party and boy did we stop at the right place! The food here was amazing, we only stopped because of a family member of the groom. Great call though the cheese curds were amazing, being from Wisconsin I've had my fair share or curds. Burgers were cooked perfectly as well. Very large menu with many selections for whatever your in the mood for. Service was quick and friendly as they even hooked the bachelor up with a complimentary dessert! Last thing I want to add is I'm a huge beer snob, and if your looking for a good place to try/find new beers this is the spot!

My friend and I took a break from the beer fest on Saturday and walked over to the tap house for a burger....and yes, a beer :) This place has an EXCELLENT beer menu, with around 40 beers on tap and a bunch of others by the can & bottle. That alone warrants at least a three star review. We started with the Cheese Curds and they were certainly a slice of Wisconsin to the pallet!!!! Then we had a couple burgers. I got the Kobe beef burger, and I must say that, while it was good, it wasn't "melt-in-your-mouth" good like some other "Kobe" burgers I have had. But it was definitely satisfying and I'd be lying if I didn't say I finished my plate with an ear to ear smile on my face. I would def come back here and probably will when the inferno fest rolls back into town and I need to extinguish my mouth from the flames!!

Boring and unoriginal. Not a problem if the food was very good, but it was just OK. Perhaps part of this is that I am a vegetarian, and the veggie burger was not home made - it was the standard frozen sort that I could make at home for 2$. The spicy fries and tots were good, however, but not so great that I would come back for them. On the other hand, the service was absolutely atrocious. We went to watch a Blackhawks game, so maybe that had a part in it, but after we received our initial drinks and food it was a game of sorts to find our waitress again. I think we literally waited over half an hour to get our check, and getting tired of waiting for that long, we had to go up to the bar to ask for it. If patrons look confused/irritated, you should probably check up on them to see how they are doing.

I've been here twice. The first time was getting home late from a west-coast trip and looked for a restaurant open late during the week. How crazy am I to think such a place exists? We lucked out and tried Tap House. Good choice. Had a burger and double stout. Partner had a kabob--me and Miss Finicky (no she does not read these reviews that I know of) both enjoyed our meals. The double stout was great. The server knew the beer menu which is good. The second trip was to take visiting entrepreneur son for lunch and get his reaction to the beer list. No snob he (but definitely an expert)--he noted the solid beer list. Son had the burger--his fair comment was that it was a 4 star, but not the out of the world ones that you find some places. I had the 'pizza'--chicken and mushroom with a drizzle of some mushroom sauce (good for some, not for me). This place is solid as solid can be. A good place for upscale bar food and the hours are near urbanesque!

This was my second visit to Tap House and I consider this the best gastropub in the LF/LB/HP/HW area. I came here last Sunday with my wife and younger sister's family and everyone loved what they ordered. Aside from a couple beers, I tried their fried chicken special, (hey, I'm on vacation), and it was unique... amazing and unique. Tap House has a big menu, lots of big TV's and a full bar. Like most places in Highwood, there is no parking lot, but I've never had an issue finding a spot right out front.

The food is good but the service is really slow. Took forever to just get our water.

Greasy Burgers = Happy Family I've tried the Tap House Grill twice now. Once with a girlfriend and the other with my kiddos. Both times I was looking for a greasy make-your-mouth-happy kind of burger. I didn't leave disappointed. The first night I met up with a girlfriend to just catch up. It's a good thing we were too busy gabbing to notice the slow service. Yep, the service moved at a snail pace that night, and I can see from other reviews it wasn't just that evening. We even had to search out our waitress to get another drink. The horror! That night, I got a burger with feta cheese and grilled mushrooms on a pretzel bun. It was absolutely heavenly. I also got the tater tots. I don't think I've had tater tots in a decade. They were crispy and nicely seasoned. These aren't your cafeteria taters! Because I knew I wanted to check out the Tap's burgers, I was able to manage the menu. But this thing is huge! It's almost like they have too many options. To pick a category and whittle it down from there. They also have a HUGE beer list and lots of martini options. I was so thrilled to find a hard cider on the menu, which is particularly difficult to find in this area. The second time I visited the Tap was for $3 burgers. No. That is not a typo! On Tuesdays, they offer $3 burgers and $1 fries or taters. I should note that those $3 burgers are plain. Any additional items cost $1. It was cooked a little unevenly but I was with my kids so I didn't fuss and it was still just as tasty. My boys got the kid menu sliders, which were the perfect side for them. It comes with two sliders, fries or taters, a drink (with refills) and a little sundae to end the meal. The fries and taters come seasoned. Initially, my kindergardener looked at me with disdain that anything would be on his fries. But he's learned that you have to try something before you can say you don't like it. One bite and he was won over. Also, the service was much much much better on family night. Our waitress was responsive. The dishes were quickly cleared when we were done. She even asked me when she could bring out the little sundaes so it would be properly timed for the kiddos. So here's my take on the Tap House Grill. It's a great local place to grab a burger and a beer with friends or as a family. The Tuesday night special really is hard to beat. Just be prepared for slower service.

Take 12 mins before they would ask you for order even they have multiple staffs who are just talking to each other

This place has great food, a solid beer list, and is lovely to look at. But all that means nothing when the service is horrible, My wife and I sat at the bar and not one of the three people behind the bar even bothered to acknowledge us. It didn't look terribly busy, but sometimes looks can be deceiving; in that case, all it takes to make me happy is a "sorry, we're busy, someone will take care of you in a minute." But we didn't even get so much as a nod in our direction, just blank looks. A real shame.

We were regulars at this place when this place was occupied by "Sage Grille" and I can say that this place makes a great successor to the venue. The vibe is more laid back, casual, and family friendly. We came here tonight for dinner and were very pleased with our experience. I appreciate a server who can actually comment a thing or two about their beer choices and can be confident about his recommendations. Ben, our server, made our first visit pleasant and deserving of a return visit. For dinner, my husband ordered the ribeye special - "just ok" according to the self-proclaimed steak connoisseur. I had the blackened tilapia tacos. The fish was grilled just right and the salsa was good. It would have been better if they were served on corn tortillas and even if they were served on flour tortillas, they should be warmed but not toasted. The kids had Mac and cheese with tater tots; I appreciate that they actually made their own unlike other places that whip it out of the blue box. The best part was the dessert- warm doughnuts drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauce---heavenly!

I really don't know what all the 3 star and below reviews are all about. This was one of the best burgers I've had north of Kuma's. Burger was phenom, cheese curds were kickass and the tater tots were really quite tasty. Not sure why some guy thought they were the reg frozen tots you get at the store, because they certainly were not. I'd reevaluate your overall tastebuds if you did not enjoy the food. Especially the guy with the "frozen burger and tots" comment. I'd love to know what you view as good food.

Nice, clean place; bad service. Poor greeting. Wasn't acknowledged until we sat ourselves at the bar, and that was pretty minimal. By the way, there were only two other customers, clearly familiar with the staff. The bartender gave us menus and never took our order before he left. I had to ask his replacement to take our order. That was about ten minutes after sitting down. I ordered the Tuesday special and was told it wasn't available until 5. My buddy checked his watch, it was 4:30. I get that. Rules are rules. But we were 2 of 4 people. Ended up at Potbelly's. Love the wreck on flatbread!

28 taps and nothin' but hops!! Which is great if you like hops... Which we don't. Whoever does the ordering for their beers loooooves IPAs because that's over 90% of the selection... No matter what time of year it is. On a more positive note, the bartenders are great, the food is very good and restaurant itself is nice, clean and inviting. But at the end of the day... The beer selection is seriously lacking.

A family and friend favorite-we come here all the time!! I try to order something different- but I can't. The turkey burger with the Greek salad on top, tater tots and a Bloody Mary and I am super happy-e v e r y time!!!! The on tap root beer is great too!!! Service can be sketchy-but I will forgive it for the sake of my turkey burger....

We attended the Pumpkin fest on 10/18/14. I called Tap House and made, what I thought, was a reservation for 4. They said 30 minutes and I gave them my name. We made our way there within the 30 minutes. We approached the hostess, told her we had a reservation, and gave her out name. She VERY RUDELY told us that we were put on a waiting list, not a reservation, and it was going to be another 30 minutes. She was very short and rude, not short in height. I'm still trying to figure out what the difference is between a waiting list and a reservation. We walked out and went to Nite N' Gale where we were seated immediately and received fantastic, friendly service and the food was great and reasonably priced.

I'm not sure where we went wrong the first time we went to Tap House. We ordered a couple of beers from the not-impressive beer list and the spinach artichoke dip from the appetizer menu. The dip tasted like warmed cream of chicken soup. We ignored it, but ate the tortilla chips and finished our drinks. I've been back several times, mostly for large group events, and have never been quite as disappointed. There have been weird incidents -- the staff removing a tray of appetizers that still had some left was notable. The food has consistently been better than that first trip, even for the large group events with a pre-ordered buffet of sandwiches or appetizers. The beer list is actually impressive and seems to be getting better with more from 3 Floyds, Revolution, and other Chicagoland breweries.

I didn't try the food here, to be fair... My friends and I just came for some drinks. They told us we could sit either in their cozy couch area or at the bar. The cozy couch area looked great: leather furniture by a fire and a giant tv, so we took that option. It was a Tuesday evening, so "animal drafts" were on special-- anything on tap with an animal in the name of the brewery or the beer (Goose Island, really. And dragons count). Good thing, because on special meant we paid $4 for a goblet of ale... Otherwise we'd be paying $6 or $7 or even $8. And I'm not spoiled-- I live in California. Even our air is more expensive. We got one round and the waitress never returned-- not to get us more drinks, not to give us our check... For that reason exactly, we never ordered another round. Maybe Tap House doesn't care, they want the big spenders who will pay double what we did for 8 oz of beer. It might be a cozy atmosphere, but at these prices, I'll take cornhole over cozy down the street at Teddy O'Brian's.

A beer lovers paradise. If you like beer this is the place for you. Not only do they have an extensive beer list most of their food is beer based. Their Blue Moon Mussels yummy! Everything I have had there has been very tasty its nothing fancy but still delicious. I have to admit the service is a bit slow when they are busy on weekends it takes a while to get your food or to even get a seat. The ambiance is cozy they have a nice lounge area and it is a great place to meet up with friends and hang out. They have specials every night and really fun trivia games on Wednesday nights. I feel that they have something for everyone here.

Came back here for Sunday football and the buffet with my friend and his wife. They live in the area so I tought I'd pay them and Tap House a visit. Had a great time. Bartender was very accommodating with quick and concise service. Not too overpowering and not away for long periods of time. Just perfect. Drinks were a plenty. They have a fairly good selection of "3 Floyds beer" which I love. Just wish they could bring in the "Zombie Dust", but then again I say this about every bar. Standard liquor selection, but did not get a chance to try any of them as it is a long ride home for me (about 30 miles). So had 2 pride and joys, water and some coffee for the road. The food was ok, standard breakfast food buffet style. Had the pancakes/eggs/bacon. They also had some wings at the buffet which were good as well. The only thing I would suggest is(and maybe it was that day 12/2/2012)....but someone kept the door open which was making the food cold and we were cold as well. Our cool bartender would close the door for us but someone would open it back up. Jeezus. I'm going to have to take a star off for that. But overall this is my third visit so I'm a fan, Staff is very friendly and it looks like they keep themselves busy. Bartender gets an A+(I'll let it slide that he's a colts fan). This is Bear country!

I have gone to this place a couple times with my family. It has been mostly for dinner on weekends. The feeling of this place is somewhere between casual family dinning and a sports bar. I can't quite place where they are trying to go. There is a section with booths, a section with high tables, a bar section, a private party section that you pass on the way to the bathroom, and a section with couches. I guess it is safe to say there are many options when you visit. The service can be very good or a little slow. Most commonly the staff is young with extremely high energy. Even when it has been jam packed with customers, our food has never taken too long. With the exception of one dish that was on special (some kind of pot roast sandwich), all the meals I have ordered and my family members have been worth going back for. Now that I have been there a few times, I can't seem to veer away from their classic burger and fries. They give you just enough of the lightly seasoned fries to leave feeling satisfied. The burgers are huge and delicious. When I am brave enough to pass up the cheeseburger, I plan to order the trio of tacos because I see so many people around me eating them and they look delicious. Stay tuned! This is a nice place to bring someone because it is busy enough to keep conversation, there are a lot of tv's and different seating options, they have a GREAT craft beer list, and the food menu is big and tasty!

How could I live in that area all of my life and visit almost every Highwood establishment (many times) and last night was my first time??!! I came here for my first Yelp event and by the way, it was freeeeeaaakkkkkiiinnnggg awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The place is right on the corner with tons of parking - after all, with a town known for taverns and restaurants, how could you not find parking? The inside is much bigger than the outside deceives. What a great place to get some great food and great spirits and watch a game!! And onto the food - The event had a buffet style and I found myself forgetting that I wanted to lose a couple of pounds and indulge in the eye candy! Ok, can I tell you that the Jambalaya Pasta just blew me away!! I love an al dente pasta and then add some heat - you've got me for life! And the sliders...I could eat a hundred of you! The only beer I had was recommended by the server and when he brought the honey colored Green Line Ale, and I saw that light frost over the golden color I knew this was the beer that was looking for me. My only regret was not trying a couple of items that really drew my attention on the menu: Crispy Fried Pickles and Buffalo Chicken and Mozzarella Wontons!!!

Last night there was a Yelp event at Tap House Grill which was the tops, but my friends and I stuck around for the Trivia Night! We love us a good trivia night of fun! Plus, I saw deep fried bacon on the menu and being the swine enthusiast that I am, I knew it must be a tackled meat. Trivia was a lot of fun!!! We loved the Harry Potter round! The guy running the trivia was super helpful, friendly and the perfect host for the event. I'm definitely going to go back for their Trivia Nights. The Crispy fried bacon was $8 and well worth it! I'm obsessed with bacon and really love trying all of the crazy things that people will deep fry so this was a perfect marriage! It was deep fried and battered and just delicious! It's served with honey mustard & ranch sauces on a bed of lettuce...got to keep it real for the health conscious people! I loved it and could literally not stop eating it. 2 of 4 of my friends found it a bit too salty. Tap House Grill is a fun time and I'll fo sheezey be back!

5 star place for families to dine in. Fresh local ingredients and they list out the local food suppliers in the menu. Delicious Kobe burgers and they don't overlook it. Crisp pretzel bun. Real food in kids meals instead of processed junk. I like the cole slaw as its not too creamy. Celery salt marinated into the fish and chips batter gives it a kick. Husband loves the beer menu which gives much info to help you select the right beer. Can't wait to try the prime rib dip sandwich and fried chicken.

I came here for a work lunch and they were not very busy, but the service was painfully slow. They were nice, but not at all attentative. I had to get up and get my own ketchup and we it was impossible to get a refill on our drinks. The menu looked great on paper, but my medium Kobe beef burger came out well done. There wasn't any pink on the burger, which is certainly not medium. If it is really "kobe" why would you ever cook it that long? Maybe I just got this place on an off day, but I was really put off by the service and the food.

Fact: I purposely came here an hour before the Pirate Booty event in order to eat THG's tater tots at the bar. Not just any old tater tots (although, even plain tater tots are little nuggets of fried happiness) but "Loaded Tater Totchos". Yup, you read that right. An awesome combination of tater tots and nachos. Topped with Goose Island steak chili, Merkts cheese sauce, corn poblano pico, fire-roasted salsa, and sour cream. In fact, I was SO excited about these Totchos that I completely overlooked the cheese curds and fried pickles on the menu. (Time to plot my return!) A large draft beer list meant an Allagash White for me, and a Green Line for J to wash down our "snack" with. What a huge mound of Totchos! But the most unexpected thing? They have a Megatouch machine at the bar! As someone who isn't a big beer drinker, I can hang out in one for many hours as long as you sit me in front of a Megatouch machine with lots of $1 bills. I now hold the #1, #4, and #6 place in the Tai Play ranking. Booyah!

I'm not much of a bar patron but came here for a bday and was very pleasantly surprised! Long beer list- of course They had to be out of the most adventurous one- banana bread Beer :( replacement- Christmas brew, prettyy good! Lots of good cocktails (Start with the chocolatey/coffee one). Burgers!!! Got the Kobe with Boursin mayo and provolone, tater tots on the side. Cheese curds are ok, it's the sauce that's more exciting. Yummy flatbreads.

The beer selection is something to write about and a reason to visit this establishment. However, the food I have had, while a wide variety (possibly too big of a selection and not enough attention to specializing in flavor and quality) is just OK. I was excited to try the luscious sounding apps, but they come out somewhat flavorless, lacking seasoning. The burgers are good but everything is so highly priced that I would think before I went back for another one. The main reason for the low star rating is the service. Even being one of only three people in the restaurant with what seemed like at least 7 on the floor, I had to go up to the bar to get my food and drinks and this happened throughout the afternoon and into the evening when it got busy, which I would expect. However, even when going up to the bar to get my food and drink, it was like I was bothering them. The staff is definitely more into talking story with one another than they are waiting on customers. I have to say there was a runner, and I am regretful I do not know his name, who noticed the poor service and came up to me numerous times asking if I needed anything. He then told my server and bartender, sadly, to no avail. When I went there with my friend, she had a chicken wrap that had an unusual tangy, possibly spoiled, taste and one half one had one 1/2 inch piece of chicken. When the waiter was made aware of this there was no apology, no offer to replace the wrap and she was charged for the full meal. They have the NFL ticket and if you want to spend $7-$14 on a beer (hello Hawaii prices!) and watch the games it has a great atmosphere and clean facilities. The root beer beer is excellent. Not a fan.

It's saturday night, you've just got off work, and it's christmas eve. I needed a drink. My manager had been telling me about here, so several of us decided to grab some beers here after a ridiculously busy week (not that we didn't expect that). To start off, the beer list is excellent. A 1 pg draft list with a good variety of beers and prices. They even had some lost abbey on tap, so of course my eyes darted straight to that. I didn't even bother with what looked to to be a great bottle list as the draft list was keeping me more than busy. They even were fully on top of all of the stemware too. I wasn't originally going to get food, but mac and cheese was calling. I got everything loaded in it, which included bacon, tomatoes, and other stuff that I wasn't paying attention to. It was great. Granted, I was probably going to like it to begin with, but I was cramming macaroni onto my fork like it was going out of style. The service was extremely good too. It was never a problem getting a beer and everyone there was very friendly. They have some ridiculous monday specials, so I will certainly be back

Four stars for the beer selection and Wednesday night trivia - after three weeks, I'm hooked! The food is generally unoriginal and overpriced (unless you catch them on a special night - Tuesday burgers, anyone?) and the service is terribly slow. However, you can't beat the ambiance of a good ol' American pub and grill (especially on trivia night, did I mention trivia?)

Mediocre food that is way overpriced. The restaurant looks brand new, very bright with lots of windows, comfortable dining room. By the high prices on the menu I was expecting some extraordinary food. But when it came, it was tolerable at best. We were all excited that tater tots came with the meals, but they turned out to be the same frozen tots my mom used to make at home with a little seasoning sprinkled on them, and far less than expected. My burger looked like it had been pre-packaged meat. It was tasty enough but not for the price. My friend ordered Steak Frites which turned out to be a very thin and poorly prepared steak with fries on top, not nearly worth the $16 it cost. The bill for 4 adults and 2 children was $75 plus tip, but no one really enjoyed their meal. I would suggest to the owners that the food must be improved or the prices reduced, preferably a little bit of both.

I think I had the same rude, cranky hostess as some other Yelpers! I came here for lunch and it wasn't terribly busy when I got there. It took the hostess turned waitress a whopping 18 minutes to take our order. We mentioned we were on a bit of a time constraint and she had even more attitude.. Now I will give her some credit as a table of 10 sat down but hey, that's the job! The food was ok. I just got a half pizza and Caesar salad. Can't really screw that up! My partner in crime had a meatball sandwich which he said was also "ok". If the service was better, it could be a better rating, but it was also freezing in there. I'll probably try another outing there for drinks, but certainly not if the rude staff was there. Sigh.....

We had an early Friday dinner with our 1 & 3-year olds. THG wasn't very crowded. There were a few tables that looked like work groups out to start the weekend, and other families with a similar plan to ours, which made us feel more welcome. There isn't an actual "kids menu", but they do have kid sized servings of hamburger, mac & cheese, cheese pizza, and a couple other things I think. We ordered the mac & cheese and a hummus plate (the 3-yo loves hummus with anything & everything!). Mac & cheese was OK, nothing outstanding, but certainly not bad. The hummus plate came with sliced cucumber, grapes, and pita bread, and was good. We would definitely order this again. We also had the deep fried bacon as an appetizer. It was breaded bacon that was deep-fried and served with ranch and honey mustard sauces. My 3-yo couldn't get enough of it, but I don't think i would order it again. Really salty and a little disappointing. For our main course, my wife had the turkey burger, and I had the fried chicken and rib combo. My wife loved her burger and thought it was moist and had great taste. My combo was good. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, probably parboiled, and had the kind of sauce I like: sweet, but not cloyingly sweet. The fried chicken(I loved that you choose the two pieces. I had 2-thighs) was very moist and flavorful, but the skin, my favorite part, was very salty. The underlying meat had perfect flavor and moisture! We will definitely be back. The service was good, the food was good, and they are kid friendly.

Tap House Grill... I heard great things about you and I really wanted to like you... but your service just sucked! I came here with a bunch of friends and the bartender made us feel like we were a huge inconvenience to her. She was very social with all the other patrons, but then ignored us and at times was down right rude. We would have to literally flag her down each time we needed a drink and even then she forgot about us a couple of times and it took forever for her to get the drinks.. I felt like she had to make the beer or something. Then, we wanted to order food, so we had to wait forever for her to come back over... but then we got another server... who was just as bad. I checked in on four square and it said you get a free soup with check in. I asked for it and the bartender seemed annoyed and then said she would bring it out. It never came... my friends encouraged me to ask again... so I finally gathered the courage and asked. She said she forgot and would bring it right out. Again it never came... so I gave up. The drinks here were a bit pricey and mixed drinks were nothing special. Since I went with a big group, we ordered a bunch of different appetizers which were all okay, but very small. Only worth the price we paid because from 4-6pm they had a half price appetizer special! We had the buffalo chicken wontons... really yummy... but only comes with 4. The chicken wings were nothing special. Both came with the runniest blue cheese dressing that just dripped right off whatever you dipped in it. The cheese curds were good and the pesto sauce was great. I was disappointed in the calamari. We ordered the fried buffalo calamari (which again came with blue cheese dressing...see above comment). The calamari itself was pretty good... definitely not fresh. But and extremely small portion which they try to make look bigger by placing it on a bed of lettuce. I would go back and give them another try. The best thing about my trip to Tap House Grill was the company and the super clean restrooms!

Just tried this place for the first time. I was very pleasantly surprised. A totally different vibe from the previous tenant, Sage Grill. Much more homey and comfortable. We were a little confused however, although there were plenty of empty tables when we arrived we were told there would be a fifteen minute wait. When we asked for what reason we were told they were being held for people with reservations. Might have made sense if people actually arrived to fill the tables or if there hadn't been at least a half dozen empty tables. Not sure they really understand the reservation process. The beer list is extensive and very good. The menu also interesting and enticing. That being said the rest of the evening went very well. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive. She recommended the cheese curds with pesto sauce. Since we had never had cheese curds we gave them a try. They tasted good but were very heavy. I probably wouldn't order them again simply because they are fried and too rich to eat much of anything else. I had the talapia tacos. Loved them. Would have liked to have tried the key lime pie for dessert but was way too full from the curds.

In a word, "horrible". We stopped in a couple of weeks ago during the dinner hour on a Saturday night. I knew we were off to a bad start when a waiter and a host got into a minor disagreement over who was handling the host stand. After a minute or two of waiting to be acknowledged, we were finally seated. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with tater tots. The sandwich itself was pretty meh. The tater tots? Ice cold. My wife had the grilled chicken and wild mushroom panini with fries. Awful. Barely any chicken between the bread--bread which had "fake" grill streaks on it. Warning: the french fries are some of the worst I've EVER had. These are frozen food-quality fries that will contribute to the nausea you'll feel about an hour after eating at this place. With a handful of decent restaurants in downtown Highwood, why you would want to eat here is beyond me. Unfortunately, it took personal experience to figure that out. AVOID TAP HOUSE GRILL!

Our second time at this restaurant. Went there with another couple. It was packed (Final Four weekend). My soup did not come and when our meals arrived we had no cutlery. 5 min later still no cutlery and our waiter is serving water to another table. We asked to see the manager who never came (was told too busy)! I know problems can arise but we will not return when the manager does not whant to know of the problems we had. You were warned!

Stopped by last evening in search of a bar with a decent beer selection and quiet atmosphere. The Tap House Grill nailed it on both of these. Reasonably priced pints, a really good selection of roughly 20 beers on tap, almost entirely craft beers. Had two pints and stuck around for trivia. Service was quick and friendly at the bar, it seemed like a pretty quiet night but I didn't see any of the slow service everyone else seems to be complaining about. Will be returning soon to try the food as well!

After reading all the reviews, I was ready for just about anything. It was a beautiful night outside and they had little tables outside but we had a party of 5 so we had to go inside. The host's greeted us promptly and said it would be a moment for a table. It was 6:15 and the place was empty. The hostess was dressed not to impress and would not be my choice for a first impression. After a few minutes they did seat us at a 4 top with a chair at the end. They have no true tables for 5. Our waiter showed up about 5 minutes later for drinks. When he brought them the water glasses he brought varied from 1/2 to 3/4 full. We ordered for appetizer's the fried bacon, fried cheese and pretzel bread sticks with cheese. The first two were very good. The pretzel breadsticks were microwaved and hard. If you are a bacon fan you have to try the fried bacon. For dinners, we had the fried chicken, the Bacon cheeseburger flatbread, the fried chicken/rib combo, pulled pork and the Root Beer stew. The Fried chicken and ribs were awesome!!! the Flat bread had to many flavors going on, the pulled port was good but a little spicy and the root beer stew was OK. They do need a better expeditor because they missed the side substitutions and the subs on the dinners. The waiters also need more training. If they can get this done....It can be a hit.

When you read this post - you will understand that the 2-stars were due to a myriad of circumstances... they're really quite comical, actually!! Tap House has a very comfortable environment that suits several occasions, ages, and styles very well. Just in the first glance around the room I see a business meeting, a bunch of guys sitting at the bar watching a game, a date night, etc. The bar is spacious, the lounge is kinda swanky with comfy chairs, and the tables are spaced apart nicely so that you feel like you can talk without whispering. Lighting, noise level, all good. The only thing I wonder is why their sign isn't lit up better!?!? Tap House Grill blends into the block in between Bridie McKenna's and Sage Grille. For as many times as I've driven through Highwood looking for something that wasn't quite the Nickel or Backstage Brothel but not going to gouge me for low quality food and drinks like Bridie McKenna's... this is that perfect place to grab a glass of wine (worth the money) with friends. I would have thought A LOT more of the place if my 2+ hour experience wasn't riddled with terrible service - orders that don't come out as described on the menu - and perhaps a server who knew ANYTHING about the place. Somebody who is as completely clueless as Alyssa shouldn't be serving without a more experienced server working beside her! Everybody waited twenty minutes or more for their first drink, first of all - and that's after she fumbled around for twenty minutes running back and forth to the bar asking if the beers we were pointing out were on tap. This silliness is due to the fact that our server said that in order to determine whether or not the beer was on tap - she had to 'ask' the bartender. I said, exasperated - How the h-e-double-hockey-stick can you run a place called the Tap House Grill without a MENU of the beers on tap!?!? Oh, yeah. After twenty minutes of running back and forth and ordering seven different beers that aren't on tap - the server realizes that there's a BEER ON TAP MENU. (!) I ordered grilled calamari - outstanding. Very delicious. I also had the 'Drunken Shrimp'. Also outstanding - very delicious, good portion, everything included fresh veggies as a garnish with the dish. Very good food... until... My husband ordered the Chicken Sandwich with Mushrooms and Brie. No Joke, what came out looked like a Ceasar Salad on bread with some chicken breast. Gooey mayonnaise-laden dressing with hunks of lettuce. No brie or mushrooms to be found. My husband - a Mayo-Hater to the core - asked the server if this was the proper sandwich. She disappears for a long time as usual - then tells us that it's the proper sandwich. Brian couldn't eat it so she took it away and comped it (first decent thing she did all night). However - she couldn't help him find anything else on the menu. At all. There was no assistance. Finally I said - bring him soup and bread. I don't want him sitting here for drinking on an empty stomach. He ended up with half my Drunken Shrimp (to my dismay) and some delicious bread with a sort of pesto rub on it that I know we didn't pay for. I wish they would have brought it in the first two hours we had been there so I could dunk it in my marinara or the delicious lemony-white-wine cream sauce that came with my Calamari. Who knows - maybe she did order the bread when we sat down at 8:30? It's hard to tell because in the th My wine decent. A Malbec I paid about 9.00 for. The other girl at the table asked for a Pinot Grigio - meaning the 7.00 house glass. Our bill came with a $24.00 tab for her two glasses. The server failed to clarify just which glass the girl wanted so charged her for the most expensive on the menu - $12 a glass. Not cool. The guys had awesome beer and although there were two massive TV's in the dining area with a sports game on - they were high on the wall and they guys didn't get distracted by them. Very cool. At the end of the meal I told Alyssa to put $26 on one card and the rest on my card - as we were purchasing the first round for our guests and all they ordered was dessert - a really ice-cream-laden looking cookie of sorts - the ice cream looked good but I didn't try it. Naturally, the bill was split in half - $50 on one card $50 on another. Even though I wrote the number 26 explicitly on the check. SO not willing to let A-Game disappear yet again, I asked the bartender to fix the bill. She did so willingly and quickly as I stood there. Nobody's really that "happy" about a pissed of customer but she wasn't terribly put off, either. As a kind gesture the bartender sent a couple of free appetizer coupons our way which was very sweet and we really can't wait to come back soon for the delicious appetizers and beer. So all in all this place would be a 4-star casual dining experience easy in my book if somebody had only been able to train this server in anything related to waitressing.

Really nice restaurant / bar. Husband and wife team are the owners, and the food and service here has been great the multiple times I have been here. Very hospitable people. 20+ beers on tap, and a nice selection of wine. The food is very good. Homemade soups, good appetizers and lot's of sandwich options. Love the prime burger. They have a Kobe burger, but the prime was just fine. (Hmm, I am a poet and didn't know it) Very very good homemade fries. They have tater tots, which a number of folks have recommended, but I haven't had them (never have been a fan) The fried chicken is outstanding. They have a Sunday Brunch buffet that is reasonably riced, and different specials at night. I haven't been to too many places that have invested in a tap that rinses out the glasses prior to drawing the beer to be sure it's properly rinsed. A nice touch. I have been here when group were, and they seemed to be having a great time. If you are looking for a high end place, this isn't it. If you're looking for a place that has a lot of health food, this isn't it. This is a tavern at it's best. Just go in, get comfortable and relax.

Great beer and drink selections, but the food is just ok. Servers are limited as to what they are allowed to do, everything is an extra charge (I even got charged for a side of ranch) and they blame their corporate office for not being more flexible. It's a chain, doesn't have a neighborly feel, and winds up being pricey for mediocre food.

I tried the fried pickles and pretzel appetizer, as well as some quesadillas. They were fine, but I think I'll stick with the burgers I love so much, and the beer, don't forget the beer!

To put it out there right away, I love this place. It's decent if you're looking for a bar, but if you're looking for somewhere to have dinner and a drink, it's great. The menu is full of things that sound incredibly appetizing and there are a good amount of unique items (such as deep-fried bacon) as well as more common foods (such as burgers). My friend and I were blown away when we asked about specific beers and were offered to have samples to see which we would like to have. I, personally, have never been at a restaurant that offered something like this. This was very helpful as their list of beers on tap is a full page long and full of variety (there is also another full page of beers they have in bottles). Then, before ordering our meals, we ended up ordering the deep-fried bacon as an appetizer because we couldn't make up our minds. It came with two dipping sauces, a honey mustard and an onion ranch. They were very different from one another, but both mixed really well with the bacon. I ordered the barbecued pulled pork and it was great. Their fries were also really good (fries are not one of my favorite foods) and the coleslaw was a lot better than the coleslaw served at most restaurants. If you like food and you like beer (you don't have to like beer, but they do have a great selection, so it is a plus), you will like this restaurant.

Great service, great food, GREAT beer! A comfortable atmosphere, not loud or distracting like other restaurants in this category. The food is worth every penny. Beer is too :)

I love to belly-up to the bar here with my husband! Lots of great beers on tap and pretty great food! I'm definitely a big fan! Service has also always been pretty great for me, except during the NCAA tourney - but that's to be expected.

Was impressed with this little gem tucked away in Highwood. The area had a small town feel which was unique considering it's not too far from the city. Was here for a Yelp event and i'll admit that they left a good impression on me. The craft beer selection was nice, always sweet to have the option of having a cold Green Line draft. Was also introduced to Abby, and that was a good brew as well. The food is good, my faves being the sliders and the jambalaya pasta. Overall, it's a good addition to this area. Good food, good beer, and an extremely attentive and generous staff who deliver great service. I'd definitely come back here as it's a great time and not a bad value.

A coworker and I went here for lunch. It was a nice day so we sat outside Because it was a little loud inside. Outside was ok as long as you dont mind the train going by. She had the tilapia sandwich w/out bun. They were more happy to accommodate the request. It looked really good!! She would totally get it again. Ihad the hoagie sandwich it was good. The bread a little more toasted than I like. It was a little more than I like to spend on lunch. Once In awhile not bad. The staff, including our server Robert, was very nice and cheerful. Our drinks never had a chance to be empty.

Had an interesting lunch.... I started out by asking our server to prepare one of their signature cocktails my way - that went well except not served in the advertised mason jar but in a rocks glass - not a huge deal. We started with the drunken shrimp which were phenomenal! Great sauce, perfectly cooked shrimp and grilled bread - yum! Unfortunately things were moving pretty slowly so we just decided to get another app- sausage and cheese plate- the sausage, potatoes, kraut and pretzels were great, but no cheese? When asked for a few cold hard chunks of cheese were brought out on a coffee saucer, with the extra bonus of a few strands of hair!! I know this happens, but... As I said things were going slow so we got the check - no promised discount or discount for four square - he tried again, adjusted the bill, but apparently can't count change. Oh well, next time in Highwood we will go somewhere else. If u are a beer lover this would probably be a good place for you. Just watch what you are eating.

I just meandered in on a Saturday for lunch. My first time. I was a little skeptical as it was very slow, only a couple tables seated when i peeked in through the windows. In fact as i write this, I am the only person in the place at 3:15pm on Saturday. I ordered an IPA that was the special beer. Excellent! So far so good. I ordered the crispy buffalo chicken sandwich with the hottest hot sauce ( forgot the name of the sauce but waiter told me in contained ghost peppers-supposedly hottest around). Absolutely best I've ever had! It was fantastic! Same for the tater tots dipped into a side of the hot sauce which I requested. Even the cole slaw was great! Seriously, patronize this place, please! The restaurant is gorgeous with nice picture windows overlooking scenic Highwood. Superb food and beer! Great service! It has everything! I will certainly be back! Loved it!

Disagree with anyone that says the service is bad and the food is mediocre. I have been three times and I have had great service every time. All have been recent visits so maybe they fixed the problem. My daughters wanted me to ask our server on our last visit if she would babysit for them. I will say that I agree that there is one woman there - hostess/owner maybe? -- that appears to be incapable of smiling and seems pretty put out. Probably not someone you want out front. That aside, the beer selection is pretty deep for the suburbs and the servers seem to be fairly well educated on the selection. The burger is easily in my top5 five at the moment and I eat a lot of burgers. Give this place a shot. Go bowling next door after -- super friendly never crowded so you can usually get a lane. Update --- went back a few more times and can see the knock on the service. It can be really bad.

First visit - really enjoyed the Tuesday $4 hamburger special. Thought maybe the tuesday burger would be a smaller variety, but it was NOT. Half-pound burger was delicious. Sides were $1 extra. As advertised, the beer selection was fun, with specials every night. We even got a sample of the Root Beer Beer - that tastes Just Like Root Beer. They will make you a Root Beer Beer Float. Have to try that sometime. Very pleasant and efficient service. Only downside to me was that the room's bare floors and open space make it kind of Loud, especially with families on a Tuesday. I will be back.

Decent beer list, but a buck or two high per pint. The food was really good. We went right as Sunday brunch was shutting down and service was slow to start, but once the staff was done cleaning up the buffet they were much better. Food is great, I loved the fried pickles. I'll go back!

Just a few weeks ago I was telling a friend that I have not had a bad dining experience in quite a long time, a testament to the quality of restaurants on the North Shore and Chicagoland area. Well, time to retract my statement after dining at Tap House Grill tonight. We walked in and were very promptly greeted by a friendly host, it started me off on the right note, made me anticipate a great experience. Sadly, this warm welcome was the highlight of our night. My dining companion and I were both taken aback by the decor. It just did not jive well, and was entirely too brightly lit for 730 at night. Our server showed up, did not really greet us or introduce himself (I wish I had his name, unfortunately he was never around enough to ask him.) He presented the beer menu, which was printed from beermenus.com . I do not understand how a place is called the Tap House and says they have "Creative Brews" can present a beer menu that was two sheets stapled together with the URL and date of print at the bottom. The selection itself was not terribly impressive and even less impressive was our server's knowledge of the beers. I asked him a number of questions, wanting either an ale or something that was tart or sour. He had zero suggestions. After I randomly chose a raspberry ale, he told me it was a good choice. Our beers arrived pretty quickly, which I appreciated. I suggest that if a place is going to angle themselves for their beers, perhaps they should issue menus with descriptions on the flavors and quality of their microbrews. Or at least copy the menu into Microsoft word to make it slightly more personalized. For dinner, we decided to just split some appetizers. The menu is huge. I mean HUGE. We went with calamari, BLT wontons and an Italian Flatbread. The calamari was cooked nicely, not overdone and had a light breading. It came with a ranch pesto of some sort, it was never explained or put on the menu and marinara. The marinara tasted like can. Not canned marinara, but the actual can it came in. Fortunately the ranch was decent, so the calamari passed. Also, you can get them coated in buffalo sauce and blue cheese, but we passed. Then the other two dishes came. Any hopes we had from the calamari were quickly dashed. Also, at this point our beers were empty, we both wanted another round plus some water, but the server was no where to be found (It was not busy enough to warrant his absence.) Anyway, the Classic Italian Flatbread had caramelized onions, sausage, pepperoni and mushroom. To compare it to late night Red Baron pizza would be a gross injustice to the Baron and his frozen pizza. It was both overly crisp and soggy at the same time. It tasted as if it was pulled straight from a freezer- toppings and all. It was only a slight step up from Totino's freezer pizza (The pizzas, not their delicious pizza rolls.) However horrible the Italian Flatbread was, it could not compare to the horror that was the BLT Wonton. They are large fried wontons with bacon, cheese and tomato in them, served atop lettuce with a dipping sauce of some sort. These things were truly one of the most offensive things I have ever tasted. My dining companion agreed, stating that he thought it was "an abortion in my mouth." There were 4 wontons in the serving, we each finished one, trying to figure out how they were supposed to taste the best, with the lettuce and the sauce, no sauce, etc. The texture was off and the cheese tasted like rancid Cheez-Whiz. The server asked if we wanted them to go, we said NO! He asked if we liked them, we said no, he replied, "Yeah they are a little different. You should have gone with the buffalo ones." Well, sir, perhaps if you had any interest in interacting with our table you could have made that suggestion! Our server only visited once after our dishes were delivered, we asked for water, deciding that another beer in the joint was not worth it. I was planning on getting dessert, but after the downward spiral that was our dishes, I feared what dessert would taste like. All in all, a terrible experience. Neglectful service, terrible food in an unoriginal environment. I guess $50 is not too much to spend to learn a lesson, though. Hopefully I can save other Yelpers from the Tap House Grill experience. Do yourself a favor and go to Bridie McKenna's, just a few doors down. Good beer selection, absolutely delicious food and excellent service.

I am reading these reviews and wondering if we are all talking about the same restaurant. We love this place. Have been there at least 20 times since it opened. Is it loud? Sometimes. Is service slow? Sometimes. Is food great? Always! Owners are always there asking guests how food is, can they bring another drink, what else do we need. They could not be nicer. It is a new restaurant-cut them a little slack. We wish them the best. They will long outlast other places in the area bc the owners truly care about their customers. And it is nice to know that there must be perfect people out there who NEVER make mistakes! Don,t go to a really new restaurant or any restaurant for that matter if you expect perfection. What I read in the reviews is actually minor in the scheme of life...good luck and welcome to high wood. U r just what the area needs.

Had a great time there staff was cool. They a free trivia game with prizes. Was there with friend of mine for a yelp party and let me tell these people know how to party. Food was awesome they had tons craft beers, HECK, they even had fried chicken yummy! Stayed afterwards for a couple more beers was converseing with some of the Tap House employees they seemed pretty cool easy to get along with. Overall great time would go back again if in area.

I've eaten here twice with family and friends, and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, food, brews and service each time. They've got a great formula for a fun, casual, different "brew-n-burger" joint -- something we really need around here. They offer a wider variety of new/different microbrews, as well as the usual suds. The menu ranges from several tasty burgers (one jalapeno & cheese-stuffed number that I gobbled up covetously), various salads, tilapia tacos that looked really good, lots of other options (even some healthy-looking stuff!) for kids and adults who might want variations in the menu offerings. I noted delightedly that, unlike most burger joints around here, Tap House uses excellent meat, and they don't overcook it!! My pet peeve. But the burger plate would be incomplete without their sweet potato fries or the fried pickles (YUM - haven't seen those since North Carolina!), and then backed up with one of their outrageous desserts. (Gotta try the "candy bar" sundae.) One caveat: Don't bring your vegan or health-nut friends here!

I have been there more times then I can count and the food and service is awesome. Husband and wife own and operated and wife is there everytime I am there and she is awesome. Check it out you will not be dissapointed there. I have had several different things on the menu and all was very good. Service has always been great and all staff is friendly and there whenever I needed something. Trust me you will enjoy every part of your time at Tap House Grill!!!!

In a town like Highwood, with so many excellent restaurants to choose from, there's absolutely no reason to eat here. It's simply terrible. I have to begin with a comment about the menu - who eats like this anymore?! Battered and fried bacon? Tater tots made into nachos? Just add some deep fried Twinkies and you'll feel like you're at the State Fair. I'm not a health nut, but I truly had a hard time finding something on the menu that wasn't deep fried or covered in cheese sauce. Yes, it's a sports bar, but we're not in a college town; we're grownups who (hopefully) have some common sense. Even Champs has better options. Our party of 4 all ordered salads for our entrees, it took forever and every single one was wrong. Wrong dressing, chicken instead of shrimp, bacon bits where they weren't supposed to be... it wasn't a difficult order, we did have a few special requests, but nothing out of the ordinary, and it was completely messed up. Basically, I was served a bowl full of chopped iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots with a few tomato pieces here and there, topped with peperoncinis I didn't want. Oh, and my shrimp was black on the outside and raw on the inside. Yuck. I asked if they served bread with the salads (who doesn't serve bread with a salad?) and was told no, but then the server said she'd bring us some. Too bad it arrived just as we were finished eating. After we were done, we sat with our dirty plates in front of us for no less than 30 minutes without seeing the server again. Finally, a busboy came along with a big bin full of other people's dirty dishes, and asked if there'd be anything else. We couldn't tell if he was asking if we were done with our plates, or if he was asking for a dessert order. All in all, this was one of the worst restaurant meals I've had in a very long time. The service was terrible, the food was terrible, the noise level made it nearly impossible to have a conversation. It even fails as a sports bar, because from where I sat, all the TVs were behind me; I faced the wall of windows, which was fine, but if I'd come to watch a game I would have been out of luck. It's so sad to see a chain-restaurant-with-no-soul moving into a city known for its excellent independently owned establishments. Do yourself, and the community, a favor, and dine elsewhere.

$15 for one bottle of beer.... MOST I HAVE EVER PAID IN MY LIFE! It was an import, but usually only pay $8 in downtown chicago.... .certainly not Highwood. The ownership should be ashamed. There are plenty of bars in this area that do not gouge customers. I suggest trying any of them.

Had dinner there tonight. There were 4 in our party. We had a 7:00 reservation. 2 of us were a few minutes late. We were sat right away. The waiter came to our table fairly quickly. The place was fairly busy. It was however Very loud. 2 of us had blackened talapia tacos. I had the pulled pork sandwich and a bowl of chicken andoullie sausage gumbo. All the food was really good. The beer list was quite extensive. Perhaps some beer suggestions would have been helpful. Overall a nice place. Good food. Service pretty good. A bit sloppy at times, but pretty good Will definitely return.

Very bad service. We ended up getting the wrong drinks but our waitress apologized and brought us the right ones ( about 10 min later). When we got the bill, we noticed we were charged for the wrong ones. The bartender who was claiming to be the owner asked if we were disputing the bill. She then went off on a tirade about how she had to throw away drinks and she can't make money this way. Instead of making amends with the situation she wanted to argue over a couple dollars on a $150.00 bill. I have never had an owner argue with me before. She was getting very loud and was being disruptive to other tables. This is a very low class place that fills beers halfway with extremely slow service. We even had to get our own utensils & napkins. We took them from an empty table, after we saw that other people were doing the same. Do not go here!!!

This place is a great addition to Highwood. Great beer selection that is always changing, and a really creative menu. Reasonable prices, which is nice to see amongst so many crazy expensive restaurants on the same block. The first time we went, my boyfriend got the prime rib dip sandwich which was AWESOME. I'd also really recommend the mac n' cheese!! Also love that it has outdoor seating. It would be really great to see this place succeed, it's a great restaurant to go to before going out to Teddy's or the Nickel :)

Cute spot with a lively crowd on a Friday night. Very good beer selection for the suburbs with a $4 special featured monthly. We sat at the bar and service was very attentive. We didn't try the food though. I'd like to come back and give it a shot. If it's good, I'll probably raise my review to 4 stars.

(4)KG G.
(3)Liz M.
(1)Al K.
customer service sucks! they take forever to bring the food, also their flat bread is so oily. I really liked their hummus, but it was way to pricey.
(3)AK S.

(5)Tom P.

(4)Christina L.
(3)Hayley S.

(2)Dave V.
(3)Jay Y.
(2)Jill K.
Insane!!
(1)Steve S.

(3)Brigitte C.

Great band last night and a very well made cocktail! It was loud but if you like classic rock and roll it was great Some guy named fedderman was rocking the joint
(5)Nick J.
(3)Pam D.

(4)Sean P.
Has nothing on the Palatine location but still good and nice staff. We would come back for sure if we are back in the area.

Reservations for large group on a Friday evening....all enjoyed the beer, and the food. I had the lake perch fish n chips - perfectly cooked and tasty. Staff was friendly and attentive
(4)Erin D.

(5)Chris M.
(4)Katie R.

(4)Jim M.
(4)Angelo S.
The food is good but the service is really slow. Took forever to just get our water.
(3)Jennifer H.

Wow, been here before....But this was not their best day. I just went out for a nice dinner, the burgers were good tater tots were a nice touch...

Terrible service. We were seated 20 mins ago and no one came to take our order or even ask about drinks.

Booyah!

Skirt steak was good, but the mashed potatoes arrived cold.

(4)Chris M.

Everything lately has been awesome since being back many times.....

Utterly amazing Beer collection! Service was slightly slow, but over all very fun. Food is higher end bar food. TVs every where with sports on every channel.

Great service. Great beer selection. We were really in need of a good bar and grill in the area that cares about been and has decent sports available.

Mediocre. Food, service, ambience - all mediocre. Terrific beer list. Good prices. Just don't go hungry for food!
(2)Jayne D.

SLOWEST SERVICE EVER! Great menu, good food, but over 2 hours for a beer & burger on a weeknight...C'MON!?!?!?! This place is only for people who are on vacation!!!
