A delicious French cusine restaurant - just a word to the wise - they are closed on Sundays but the food is great - you can also do wine tastings by reservation, as well. Smoking is not allowed in the eating area but if you really crave one - go to the bar. A you-select menu and a chef-selected menu of hot and cold appetizers, sorbet, entree and dessert are available for a fixed price at lunch and dinner ($28.95 and $35, respectively, at dinner, less at lunch). I totally recommend their Lobster in vanilla sauce. Service is great and you pay for the quality of the food!

Always loved this place! Really, really good food! I have never been disappointed everytime I come. The escargo there is amazing!!! best I ever had! The only down-side is the main dining room. I don't care for the bright room and noisiness. Infact, I enjoy the ambiance much more in their bar area. If possible, I try to get a table there instead...much nicer.

I'm giving them the big five based on our dinner tonight. We have eaten at Froggy's many times over the years; they are the surviving North Shore French stallwart, which once included Alouette, Le titi De Paris, Gabe's, Carlos and of course Le Francais (Resaurant Michael is a relative newcomer). Unlike most restaurants today their main dish includes lovely mashed potatoes and vegetables which are a great accompaniment. Tonight we shared the snails appetizer (look at that escargot!) which came in a bubbly hot iron pan with a lovely pastry and garlic cream sauce; the snails ($9.95) were not large or numerous but quite tasty. We then each had a bowl of the fabulous creamy mushroom soup which is not always on the menu but we order it when it is; the soup has a strong smokey base and the slices and pieces of mushroom are a revelation - a true bargain at $5.00. Entrees come with a small but tasty salad with lettuce, carrot, beet and radiccio in a creamy vinagrette. For entrees we had a lamb shank in a sweet orange sauce and a classic sweetbread preparation - both excellent. We shared a very nice bottle of Malbec (Trapiche, Argentina) at a reasonable price. Meals are accompanied by good bread and butter service (refillable). Water and wait service is excellent; the chef is not particularly affable - he visits his favorites but not everyone, but over the years he's stopped by a few times and I don't really need a Gabe's type kow tow so I'm good with that. The dining room decour has been refeshed due to interesting lighting; as always the chef's wife's art work is on the walls and makes for interesting viewing. Several meal combos are always available. highly recommended.

Great all around. Decor, service and food were plesant and not imposing. I found our waiter very helpful in guiding our choices for food and drinks. The atmosphere was elegant but still a bit casual, cool paintings. Their menu has a lot of choices you would find elsewhere, but all their dishes we tried felt unique to the place, like someone still cooking what's always worked. I liked the tornadoes, pate plate, lobster, not so much the game plate. And for dessert we had pastries from their bakery and an interesting meringue, great stuff.

Wow the manager sent a reply. He said our reservation was for 2 not 4. That's funny when we requested a specific table and waiter and the table was a 4 person table. What a low class individual. Since that experience I told my whole spin class and several other people. They were all shocked that you not only lied once you lied several times. Well hopefully this will reach out to others and they will not frequent This establishment. If you keep on treating people this poorly you'll eventually have to close your doors.

Previously great; now just OK. Food's still excellent. But the service/pricing strategy bothers me. Our waiter offered to upgrade a hot appetizer up into an entree. I should have asked for the cost difference. When we got the bill, entrees weren't itemized--suggesting something to hide. But the math's not difficult when there are only two entrees. The upcharge was more than 150%.
(3)Mike T.
The food was excellent in our party we each had a different soup all excellent. 3 fish meals and one beef meal. All excellent. In general the food was superior. The service was superior. The atmosphere superior. Frankly I can't say enough good about this place.

Have an octogenarian you're hot to impress? Eager to relive the restaurant fashions of the 80s? Think "French food" means small portions and high prices? If the answer is yes to any of the above, consider Froggy's. A whirlwind of glitz may distract you from underwhelming food and a waitstaff who look like they've found themselves in one of Dante's rings of hell. It was painful and an experience in not eager to repeat.

Seriously great French place in the (WHAT?!) suburban wasteland of Highwood. Unlimited stars for the company on this night, but that was specific to my visit. And it was my birthday! The interior: super cute, doors thrown open to the street, nice bar. Very comfortable and cute. But, you can't eat interiors, sooo, the food! We shared a foie gras appetizer. I know, bad. But, so good. Whatever your personal feelings on foie gras, I happen to love it. I rarely eat it, and this place is a good place to indulge. So, we did. Now, salads all around - delicious greenery and just the right amount of tangy vinegarette. And beets! Shaved beets! For my entree, I had the Chef's Creation: Fish. Several small portions, but perfectly seasoned or sauced. A few grilled vegetables. Very fresh and flavorful: salmon, baramundi fish and melt in your mouth sea scallops. Delicious and nicely presented. This is not your Maggiano's gross sized entrees, it's just enough food and super delicious. For drinks, we had some great champagne, a really tasty Red, and a large Cucumber martini in a cool metal glass for my favorite Dutch guy. Dessert! This was a Triple Virgo birthday party. Desserts ranged from mine - Passionfruit mousse with a crispy chocolate cookie and raspberries. A poached pear in red wine sauce and some sorbet. All really tasty. The service was impeccable. From the friendly, knowledgeable waiter, to the chef who came out to talk to the regulars in our party. Just attentive enough without being annoying at all. Fantastic! I'd venture back to the suburbs for this one. And Highwood has a cute downtown area, with a train station right in the middle. The way the suburbs were originally meant to work vs. the car-centric sprawl that they are today. Highwood works.

I hadn't been here for many years and a neighbor of mine suggested it for a "girls night" dinner. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! It was a nice quiet night so we could gab over wine, dinner, and coffee. She had the mushroom soup. It looked delicious. She said it was very good. It does have cream in it, as well. I had a small salad. It was a bit over dressed, but I enjoyed it none the less. It had a mustard dressing with just enough zip. I'm trying to watch the intake (it is January, after all) so I ordered the white fish. It did not disappoint! It was moist and flavorful. Not smothered in sauce...just a nice light fresh tomato sauce. It was a very simple presentation, with a scoop of creamy mashed potatoes and some veggies. I really enjoyed it. Skipped dessert.... but I may come back for the bread pudding with Hubby, when I shed those nasty five!

Been going here since I was a baby- 25 years later nothing has changed and I can always count on delicious food, great service and a charming decor. I've had graduation parties here, brought a boyfriend to meet the parents here- this is a great place to make memories and eat amazing food.

I'm glad we followed my wife's suggestion to have a late Saturday dinner here. Froggy's is truly a Highwood institution. At one point, I had the feeling that it was resting on its laurels and slowly slipping into restaurant boredom. It now feels like the fresh next generation of the institution. There are two rooms for meals--the main dining room and a bar indoor garden area. Late nighters are seated in the bar area. The bar area is fresher than before (the irritating heater noise is gone). I think my wife suggested the restaurant being in the mood for duck. This entree is of the old tradition--it came perfectly done, subtle sauce. The waiter picked up on my wife's inquiries about gluten free bread (they do not have it) and made sure of the order being to her satisfaction. I had French Onion soup and veal with mushrooms. The soup had croutons instead of a slice of bread. The melding of cheese, croutons and onions with a rich broth was excellent. I munched on the non-gluten free bread--it was crusty, chewy and tasty. The veal special hit its mark as well. Mushrooms with a rich sauce added to the depth of tastes, Our waiter was very young, not one of the familiar regulars. A suitable image for the 'new' institution--he was attentive and friendly, making sure of our desires and gently suggesting that the kitchen would be closing shortly (at 10). But I have to get a better understanding of their wine by a glass or they have to rethink what is being served. The Bordeaux I had was trying to get caught up to the excellent meal that was served and not quite getting there.

Excellent food, cooking classes and atmosphere!

Great French food..extremely authentic. Definitely try the escargot. I tried the scallops recently and was very impressed (Don't take it home because it will stink on your ride home) People are very friendly and welcoming and atmosphere is very elegant. The chef even came to the table to surprise us with complementary dessert. Yum!

My fiancee and I went into Froggy's to celebrate our engagement dinner on the evening of Tuesday, September 2nd. With no expectations, except to enjoy each others company...must say, we were HIGHLY impressed. We sat out on the very romantic and cozy cafe/bar. Our table was situated next to the French doors that opened up to the fresh air and the patio. The server was helpful in all the descriptions of the additions for the evening. Knowing that we wanted delicious food, and trusted in the experience of the Chef Owned/Operated 34 year old restaurant, we knew anything we ordered would be fabulous. Picking out our wine was the most challenging and exciting experience, since Froggy's has over 300 bottles of wine to choose from, mainly from France and North America. We picked a bottle of Sancerre from France and put our faith in the Chef to make our night special by selecting the Chef's Selection...and that he did. We started out with a sampler of 3 "cold" appatizers...the fresh artichoke with a delicious rattitolie was fabulous. It was followed by another 3 "hot" appetizers...my favorite being the mushroom ravioli. The appetizers were followed with a palate cleans of vodka-soaked lemon sherbet with fresh mint and a lemon twist...a perfect way to enter into our main courses. The trio of seafood platter was very nice...perfectly prepared, melt in your mouth sea scallops with a delicious lemon sauce was my favorite. But my fiancee loved the salmon with a roasted red pepper sauce...and the cheesy mashed potatoes with fresh grilled vegetables were a perfect combination! Chef coursed out the meal perfect...soon as we cleared the fish plate the attentive server placed our next course of a trio of meat down. By this time Sara and I were getting pretty full, but we both were supper excited to try them all. Beef tenderloin and linguine stroganoff with creamy alfrado and a rich mushroom demi-sauce was our first choice...the BEST stroganoff I have ever tasted!! We followed that with the very rich, melt-in-your-mouth tender cut of veal. But what stole the show was the grilled lamb chop with a peppercorn red wine sauce...perfection! We managed to clean our plates yet again. Completely satisfied, Sara and I leaned back in our chairs with huge smiles on our faces. And then came the desert platter...YUM!!! We definitely found room and enjoyed the fresh berry tart, a custard-filled puff drizzled with a carmel sauce, fresh fig with a chocolate berry sauce, and my favorite...dark and white chocolate covered fresh strawberry...accompanied with coffee...YUM!!! A perfect way to celebrate our engagement!! Loved all the different types of plates the dishes were presented on...beautiful ambiance...a perfectly romantic experience all around. Thank you Thierry Lefeuvre and Alain Rochelemagne. Both Sara and I are true fans and we will be telling everyone we know to experience Froggy's French Cafe for themselves. Bret Meier.

Great service but the food just does not do anything for me. I have been here a few time over the last 10 years expecting better but walking away wondering how this can be french.

A loyal but aging customer base might be all that keeps this fraying Francophile legend afloat. On our one and only visit, the food and service fell appallingly short of our expectations. Our party had a midweek dinner reservation. Froggy's main dining space is attractive, cozy and comfortable, with umbrella light fixtures providing a splash of color. A wine cellar and a private party room are located downstairs, and also the restrooms, which are not handicapped-accessible. An inordinate amount of time elapsed between taking our orders and arrival of soup/appetizers. Everyone's soup arrived tepid. Judging from what came out next - wilted greens drowned in a too-vinegary dressing - apparently our salads had also languished far too long on the sideboard. We acknowledge that finer restaurants serve courses at a leisurely pace. Food temperature issues aside, though, we observed regular customers who arrived after us receiving more attentive and expeditious service. In fact, before our entrees began to arrive (some 90 minutes after we were seated), other customers had already finished their meals. When trying to figure out who ordered what, our server became visibly flustered. At least twice during this lengthy process, he darted off to handle requests at other tables. So it was no surprise that several entrees came to our table tepid and had to be sent back to be reheated. There were other problems with the entrees, so we sought the maitre d'. Far from apologetic, he snapped back, "It's not the waiter's fault!" But non, Monsieur, the server was partly to blame, and oui, things weren't going too well in the kitchen either. After that, the server avoided our table altogether. A busboy had to be summoned repeatedly to fill requests. It's pointless to further critique the food other than to say that nothing we sampled at Froggy's was superlative or otherwise worthy of their lofty menu prices. Much later, when we wrote a note on the check to explain the meager tip, the snooty server had the audacity to eye the note, smirk and chuckle audibly in full view of our party. Perhaps Froggy's owners/managers have become jaded or complacent. Perhaps keeping the regulars happy matters more than trying to win over new customers. Having enjoyed far better food and service sans attitude at Miramar Bistro just down the street, we heartily recommend dining there instead.

Went to dinner midweek. Not crowded. Had mushroom soup which was very tasty, followed by duck salad. Nice presentation and more than ample portion. Food was good, but not the best I've had and generally the pricing was high. Good chocolately dessert. Atmosphere is lovely and I wd go back to try something else on the entree menu rather than a salad.

2 thumbs down. If this place was around for 40 yrs it might become kitschy and cool but that would require the food being good. Which it wasn't. The decor and dishware was out of a 1986 highland park kitchen. Again, it could ALMOST be cool again... But it's just not. Sorry ceiling umbrellas, you almost hide the horrific and dirty ceiling tiles. The food was not good. One would think the French onion soup would be a safe order but the soup came out at room temperature. This was confusing because they managed to melt the cheese over it. The broth was virtually flavorless and lack seasoning... Bath water came to mind. The ratatouille seemed like an odd offering in January and it was admittedly a bad order. Clearly the seasonality concept has missed the restaurant. I guess in the positive, the restaurant is not concerned about trends. Smarmy host, bad decor, nursing home esque... Bad food. Skip it.

Many people have the perception that most French restaurants are pretentious and overpriced. You can throw out that idea when it comes to Froggy's in Highwood. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food, prepared by one of the Chicago area's great chefs, Thierry Lefebvre, is superb and reasonably priced. The menu changes seasonally and several intriguing specials are available every night. Trust the wait staff to provide tips on what to order if you can't decide. Save room for dessert. The best are the bread pudding and the chocolate-hazelnut mousse cake. Don't be surprised if you run into former or current Bulls and Hawks when you dine here. Former Bulls center, Bill Cartwright, and his wife are part owners. Finally, my wife and I have dined at many other fine dining restaurants in Chicago. In our view, none can compare with Froggy's for excellent food, service and value.

This is an interesting place. The atmosphere is somewhat outdated but cozy at the same time. The food was good but nothing to write home about.

I had such an excellent experience here for my birthday. My boyfriend flew me out to Chicago for my birthday weekend and after yelping for where I'd like to have dinner, I settled on this whimsically named French restaurant. The owner was very accommodating with my reservation, even with us being 15 minutes late. He was fun to talk to, made a great Shiraz recommendation for our dinner and was soooo tickled by our names being Antoinette and Pierre despite being an Asian woman and a black man. The fun staff was a nice contrast to what I thought was a stuffy atmosphere, with everyone being older well-to-do lookin' people and us probably being the youngest, and only people of color in the restaurant. We had the foie gras ( a MUST because Cali has banned it ), escargot, copious amounts of warm complementary bread, the duck medallions and rabbit in wine. Everything from the meat to the veggies was exceptional. $100 for the both of us--which I felt was a steal compared to what we would have spent in San Francisco. The best part was we had a view of the TV at the bar area and we were to watch the A's game while we ate. Goooo Oaklaaaaand!!
(5)Heather J.
This is a lovely restaurant. It is chef-owned, I think, and the food is authentic and prepared with great care. We had a reservation and were seated immediately when we arrived. The restaurant was very busy, however, and it took a very long time for a server to come to our table. When he did come, he told us the specials for the night and each of us ordered one of them. I ordered the duck cassoulet and it was excellent. The specials each came with a salad or soup, and they were nice enough to let me substitute my favorite French onion soup for the regular soup of the day. Aside from the slow service, the experience was wonderful and I would love to return.

Based on the history of Froggy's and the eccentric-energy of the owner, I wanted to award more stars, I really did. But, when my exceptionally hot plate arrived at my table and I cut into my anticipated rack of lamb and it was raw inside...the stars began to fall. And by raw I don't mean rare...I mean raw. The sear was barely there on one side and not at all on the other. It made my stomach and taste buds sad. On the positive side, the waiter, without question or even a moment of hesitation, saw the state of the meal and swiftly took my plate back to the kitchen for meaty repair. The 3 stars are because the desserts were incredible and they treated my 2 year old son like a rock star! I've never seen a toddler have so much fun at a French (or most any) restaurant. Due to the history, I'd be willing to give this place another go but I won't order the lamb. :)
(3)Colin S.
This restaurant is a solid 4 if not 4.5. I have come here on several different occasions. The atmosphere is nice and food quality top notch. I really enjoyed on how the matradee spent so much time with us picking out the right bottle of wine. He was so helpful and found us and our party the bottle that we were looking for. I really come here when I want to sit down for a nice long dinner and not be rushed. It is truly a top notch restaurant in everyway here. There is a valet parking and is so convenient here it is the only way to go.
(4)Ani B.
We go to Froggy's around once a quarter. The good news is that the food qulity is consistent....good but not great. But the place is beginning to look tired. The loyal customer base is aging and the place is not able to retain the younger first- timers
(3)T K.
A good friend called and suggested we dine here on a quiet saturday night. We had a party of 6. We were quickly seated for our reservation but then sat for 10-12 minutes without a check in. We finally snagged a passing waiter after the maitre d' ignored our "excuse me's" several times as he passed. We were a light hearted (and relatively young) group who were generally easy going. However, the wait staff seemed very uninterested in service. Overall, the food was "good" but nothing great. I am sure the regulars will keep this going for a time but it seems like not much passion in the food, service or ambience.
(3)Kimberly F.
What a cute little eccentric place this is. And what a friendly owner and staff! They all seem to really care about the food, so that's always a plus. I visited here about a month ago and to be honest, the food isn't sticking out on my mind. I know I had scallops and I know I enjoyed them, but that's about it. The sorbet trio that I had for dessert stands out more - it was a great refreshing end to my meal. We brought our two year old with us, which is always risky. We weren't treated any different and they didn't make any fuss about bringing his food out early. They even made a smiley face with his pasta and chicken :) I like the history of this place, too, and definitely want to try some other things on their menu.
(4)Jack P.
I've made several return visits to Froggy's and felt it was only fair to add a star. The service here is consistently dependable and classy, and with staff who remembers you from one visit to another, there is the added air of familiarity to the overall experience. The chef also makes a few passes through the dining room to check on things, too. That's a caring chef. On my last visit, I had a chicken-broth based, pureed butternut squash soup, which was unexciting in appearance, but harboring an explosion of flavors. Soup can be such a great blank canvas for the right chef, and this one was was Picasso, Monet and Van Gogh combined. The salmon was nicely prepared. They do a nice job with fish, in general, and accompanying sauces are subtle and quantities are very meat/sauce proportionate. There is always a scattered medley of vegetables around the plate. I only wish they would not do this "zapping" under heat, which renders the plate untouchable hot and turns fresh pea pods into hot limp ribbons. I prefer a little crunch with my veggies. That said, the flavor and seasoning on the limp vegetables is still remarkable and pleasing. And finally, a big shout out to dessert. Specifically, the poached pear. A cold pear poached in red wine, sitting on a small bed of pear mousse, and a pool of rich chocolate sauce and creme anglaise. Just an incredible melding of texture, sweetness, chocolate and creaminess. This is a dish which could pull this occasional dessert eater into the ranks of America's Biggest Losers, given time, the means, and the ability to eat here everyday. I have also sampled the other desserts, all which would make Napoleon or any other French monarch very proud. Froggy's really is a good value for traditional French dining.
(4)Ed K.
always pleased with our infrequent visits to Froggy's, with its warm atmosphere & service and relatively reasonably priced good french food & wine. when in highwood, avoid the posers and go straight to the real thing for a quality dining experience.
(4)K S.
For the price the food quality was poor. Flavors were unbalanced. Undercooked and overcooked. Not returning.
(1)Mike P.
Took Wife and family on Sunday for Mothers Day. Great service and the food was amazing. The wine list was superb and the prices very reasonable. This place it the real thing for French. Do not bother going downtown or to Paris for that matter its here in Highwood. Enjoy, Mike
(5)Natalie N.
Great food, pretty good service though my last visit the service was pretty slow and the restaurant was not full. The patio is very nice, the inside decor needs work (drop ceilings etc) I love the chef's seafood selection plate and my hubby loves the veal. Great food at an excellent price.
(4)Brent E.
Cozy French bistro with great people taking care of you while serving reasonably priced tasty foods. One of my favorite places in the area for years. Highly recommended for a night out.
(5)Maria C.
First time trying this place. I must say this place has a wonderful ambiance, great food and the service is incredibly.
(5)Adriane P.
It's not easy being green. -Kermit the Muppet Well, it's not easy being me. -Adriane the Moppet So naturally I'd want to get away from it all with some yummy French food. Can you keep a secret? I hope you help me keep it. Although Chicago has some wonderful, amazing dining...the North Shore and Burbs have so many great restaurant gems scattered out there. I feel a lot of people overlook them, or to be candid, don't take the time to look and unfortunately for them their tummies are missing out. I'm good at finding these treasures, just call me Adriana Jones. The atmosphere is great: comfortable, classy, pretty, and lacked pretense. We ordered: Escargot Casserole Broiled snails braised in creamy, garlic sauce. My companion loved it. I only tried a bite. Let's put it this way, if you're an escargot fan you'll be happy. If you're a mollusk rights activist or picky/unadventerous eater try the suggestions below. Chapeau of Lobster Lobster over salted spinach with Newburg sauce. Wonderful. The sauce seemed similar to Lobster bisque in that they both have roux and sherry, but it's distinctly less heavy and the richness is cut by the spinach. Broiled Salmon with red, sweet pepper sauce. Good. The pepper sauce livened the entree up and it tasted fresh. Grilled breast of Duck in black current sauce Terrific. The tangy, sweet sauce was a perfect compliment to ultra-tender, succulent duck breast. The service is aces. The chef comes out and checks on tables, asking how everything is. So nice. Our server was very friendly and knowledgable. Like the fairy tale of kissing a frog and it becomes a prince with a happy ending. I ate at a Froggys and felt like a princess and it was a happy ending.
(4)R. S.
Consistently enjoyable food and atmosphere. Friendly, efficient service. A very welcoming and delightful dining experience.
(5)T. R.
My husband and I just enjoyed a lovely birthday dinner at Froggy's: impeccable service, perfect cocktails, incredibly delicious food and very special and tasty desserts. And, the restaurant's decor is beautiful, warm, clean and French. We love this place.
(5)Elina K.
Ate here for the first time. Service was excellent. Ambiance in the front seating area (by the windows) is nothing short of lovely. Martinis were fantastic...served in metal glasses, pretty cool. Food was good. Nothing mind-blowing. I must add that I am currently not able to smell properly so I didn't get the full flavor experience but the plating alone was underwhelming. I tried the heirloom tomatoes with goat cheese and prosciutto (felt it would have been tastier cold), lobster bisque (great flavor but was a bit oily), the braised chicken (looked a mess but tasted good) and the chocolate sampler for desert which was yummy. SO all in all, it was a good experience and ran about $50 per person without tip. I will try again.
(3)Amir L.
I been going to froggys for over 10 years and it's one of my favorite reatauraunts. They are always willing to accommodate and have great customer service! They also allow you to rent the whole place for private parties at a really affordable rate! The staff is warm and like none other!!
(5)Alice U.
2nd time there 1st time great. This time reservations for 7;00 seated us at 8:30. We only got seated because my husband stood At the check in. Kept seating larger parties that just got there Passed many smaller groups then waiter was breathless every time he came to us. Owner didn't care at all. Never apologized We finished at 11:00. Food was mediocre and had to send two meals back
(2)Michelle S.
Lobster bisque, house salad, beef medallions, & apple and pear tart with fume blanc...ALL delicious. Went for a friend's birthday dinner and it was perfect!
(5)Laura G.
Beware!! We almost got ripped off by almost $1,000!! We were celebrating our girlfriend's birthday and had 16 girls all together. Everyone had a drink or 2 maximum, some appetizers and dinner entree. We had expected to pay around $100 per person but when we got our final bill were shocked to see the total came out to $150 per person. We knew it was impossible and sure enough when we started adding everything up, disclovered that our bill had an extra $1,000 misteriuosly added to it. When asked the waiter to explain why, we were given some lame excuses. They finally did adjust our bill. They tried to take advantage of girls thinking we all had a drink or two that we could not add!! We never got an apology and will never go back to this restaurant agan!!
(1)Marianne C.
I absolutely LOVE this place! The staff is always wonderful. The food is always perfect - even though I always order the same thing! And the bartender always makes me the perfect Side Car.
(5)Peg H.
Nothing I ordered was what I expected. It was Americanized French-ish. Green snap pea pods in the gazpacho & escargot - unusual... The duck was sliced and not the better cut of duck. The cassis sauce had a weird aftertaste. And the travesty - the stale glass of Bordeaux was served in a white wine glass. Weird and just not right. I just don't understand the highly rated reviews for this place. The age demographic was much older and there were a few couples. Over priced for mediocre food and bad wine. $65 escargot gazpacho duck and Bordeaux + tip. :/ See Yukon C.'s Review!
(1)Larry S.
We have made multiple visits to this North Shore institution, Well prepared french (ish) comfort food. Excellent wine list.. Desserts are to die for especially the bread pudding. Staff and ambiance are great. Last visit Wild Mushrooms on puff pastry, beef wellington, Dover Sole, Foie gras Apple Tart and Bread pudding. All were great with the exception of the Dover Sole which my wife felt could have been fresher.. Anyway we will be back.
(4)Bradley M.
I have one French word to describe the food: garbage. This was the worst food I have ever experienced in my recent memory. I cannot believe the reviews and after seeing the demographic of people dining here (average age at least 65), I question the authenticity of these reviews. The first thing I did upon arriving home was to have a shot of Makers Mark to hopefully stave off food poisoning. Caveat Emptor.

My mom told me about this place twenty years ago and it has now been around for thirty so they have sucessfully stood the test of time. The formula shouldn't be that complicated just offer dishes of fresh produce and meats that are in season at their peak right now, cook them to-order and use creativity to make them stand out. Easy right. Not so easy most places don't do any of the three well but all were present at Froggy's. You can poke fun at them for having ceiling tiles in the bar so old they sag in the middle and for the general old-folks-home look of the dining room with the exception of the artists paintings which are for sale. But the place was packed on Saturday night. So much so the stuck up old north shore ladies were scratching at each others mink stoles to get a table. Big fun there. In any case the foie gras with blackcurrent and cassis was fantastic, the rabbit casserole was rich and decadent and the special of wild boar and rabbit wellingtons was unusual (boar a touch dry). The bottom line is that if you want to try a French spot that is going to treat you well and serve you well try Froggys and if you get to see pretentous old ladies hack at each others pearls just sit back and enjoy.

We were devotees of Froggy's back in the 80's but we moved 65 miles away and hadn't been able to get back until yesterday when we were near by. We were very excited to be able to eat at our once favorite restaurant. The staff were very welcoming when we walked in the door and the presentation of the tables was very nice in the Bar with the doors open to the sidewalk. We felt like we were in New Orleans. We had the grilled heirloom tomatoes for appetizer and they were yummy. Note: They aren't grilled. They weren't even warm. They put the topping on and ran them under the broiler for a very few secs. We each had an omelet and a glass of wine which were both delicious. The bread and butter is fabulous. The food is still outstanding but the waiter we had needed better manners and much more training. We had always loved the impeccable service in the past but this time it left a lot to be desired. Our waiter didn't introduced himself, rarely came by (we were one of two tables in the whole place), never asked us how our food was, didn't asked us if we wanted another drink, frequently touched my wife on her shoulder to confirm her orders (inappropriate) and not once responded to our many thank you's. We had to hail him if we wanted something and eventually had to ask the bus person to get him for us. The one real disappointment was that we ordered the tomatoes as an appetizer and commented to each other that we were tired of salads. After we completed eating the appetizer the waiter brought us two salads. There was nothing on the menu to indicate that the omelets came with a salad and the waiter never told us they did. We might not have ordered the tomatoes if we had known a salad was included. Apparently there is no choice of dressing either. Another shocker was that the waiter seemed not to know what the quiche of the day was, and awkwardly told us the soup and two of the "specials". Later, as we were leaving we heard another waiter tell his table about the 4 "specials" and two soups of the day. We noticed that our waiter had gotten the description of the two "specials" mostly wrong as well. Again, the food will not disappoint but if this waiter is any indication, the service may. We're still fans, but it will probably be another 26 years before we are back. Enjoy!

My mom treated me to lunch at Froggy's and it was one of the few times I have had French food. It was awesome! Delicious dressing on the fresh salad greens. I also had the Fisherman stew which was a tomato based fish stew, that was wonderful as well. I had the Chicken Nicose and my mom had the seafood crepe which was unbelievable!! It had scallops, white fish, lobster, mussels all wrapped up in a crepe with a lobster cream sauce over the top... outstanding!! Everything was great, charming plates and saucers.. we want to go back during the Holidays for dinner.

Service: 4 stars Ambiance: 1 star Food: 2 stars Value: 1 star Overall: I cannot give this place more than 2 stars, despite the great service. Reality and value compared with reputation and expectations simply does not measure up. Onto the more detailed review: Since we moved here in June Froggy's has been at the top of my list of restaurants to try. It took us this long to get there not because of lack of wanting to go, but because it's pricey enough to put it in the category of "special occasion" dinner. We waited until friends of ours who also recently moved here could go with us as one of said friends loves french food, lived in Paris and has been away teaching art in Italy. She returned earlier in the week and we immediately made reservations at Froggy's for Friday night. Let's start with the ambiance. Each time I've walked past Froggy's I was enchanted by the lovely outdoor seating area and made the mistake of assuming that inside would be equally enchanting. Wrong. The dining room is one big room with the tables packed too closely together. It feels like a cafeteria. The walls are the color of generic ibuprofen tablets, punctuated with art so bright it assaulted my eyes. I do not know if it would be considered good art or not, I'm only speaking of the colors here. All this color attack is directly at war with the sad, cement-colored suspended ceiling which would be more appropriate in an office building. Direct lighting turned up to a level apparently attempting to emulate the brightness of the sun at noon did nothing to enhance the overall effect, and in fact allowed me to more closely examine the kitschy decorations and tableware. In a word: dated. Moving on to the food. Another reviewer mentioned that the rolls were something like the consistency of pillsbury rolls and I would have to agree. Took one bite, left the rest. Not worth the carbs. The escargot were tender and the flavor was good, but the cream sauce had broken. The escargot were accompanied by some sad, overcooked snow peas which I assume were meant to be a garnish but being so wilted and off-color they never should have left the kitchen. The salad was forgettable and over-dressed. I don't eat duck every day but I do love it, and when I go to a restaurant with a good reputation and they have duck on the menu I will generally go for it. When the server didn't ask for a temperature on the duck I assumed it was because the chef knows what he's doing and doesn't want to hear any of this "well done" nonsense. Any chef I have ever worked with in a dozen or so years in fine dining would cringe to hear a server come into the kitchen with "well done" on their lips. My duck was well done. It took me a while to realize this was the case, since it was drowning in salt and a cloyingly sweet sauce. The rubbery texture and tan meat (after scraping off the sauce) tells no lies, however. The dish had more sad snow peas garnishing it and a scoop of boring mashed potatoes, which incidentally were the same mashed potatoes that came with everyone else's dish and strangely were mixed up with the (overcooked) vegetables. My husband and one of my friends got the rabbit. I tried the rabbit, it was fine if a little dry, but having only ever had rabbit one other time in my life I am no judge. My husband says the sauce was so thick and rich he really couldn't taste the rabbit at all. My friend only ate half his rabbit and my other friend (the one who has lived in Paris) was mostly silent regarding the food and left half her chicken on the plate. Onto dessert! The verdict all around was "nothing special, we've had better". We got the lemon creme brulee, chocolate hazelnut mousse cake, and the fresh fruit with almond cookies and passion fruit mousse. The passion fruit mousse tasted more like heavy whipped cream drowning in sugary orange juice flavor, and the almond cookies were the consistency of cardboard. I left most of it on the plate. Very depressing considering the only time I order dessert at a restaurant is when I know they have their own pastry chef or attached bakery, so I was really looking forward to this. Service: Excellent service on par with exactly what I would expect in a fine dining establishment. Froggy's, a word of advice: take care of your servers because right now they're the best thing you have going for you. Dinner total bill came out to around $250 before tip, that's with no bottle of wine and one person who does not drink alcohol at all. The check was not broken down, as in, all our drinks were in one lump sum so we had no way to easily split the check or verify that what we were being charged was accurate. Annoying, but we weren't about to make a scene and we were all just ready to leave by then. This restaurant is dated, overrated and overpriced for what it is. We will not be back. Lastly I just want to reiterate that the service was excellent and the manager was very sweet and funny.

This pains me to no other to write this review. Why? Because the service at this place was phenomenal. Very attentive and helpful waiter, to an on-the-spot bus boy. I met a friend who was staying in Waukegan and this was a semi-midpoint. She loves french food and I do as well so it seemed like a no-brianer considering it had fantastic reviews. Now I'm the jack@$$ that has to look foolish for questioning the taste palettes of 20+ other people. But I assure you, I did give this place a fair chance. We were served rolls, that I swear on Prada were Pillsbury can-biscuits. They were a bit rubbery. I went with the prix-fixe chef's selection menu. 2 cold appetizers, 2 warm appetizers, palette-cleansing sorbet, entree, dessert. Fantastic deal, for just under $50. Or so I thought. I was given the marinated shrimp, the ratatouille and crab and beet terrine. The ratatouille was very fresh and tasty. Very well seasoned. The shrimp was slimey and out of place. It had orange juice, yes juice, poured over it that washed away any seasoning the chef MIGHT have put on it. The terrine filling was okay, but the heavy beet (bright-ass pink) sauce they poured over it was the look, feel and taste of medicine and it completely over powered the dishes. The warm appetizers were......odd. There was a ravioli. It was "okay". Tasted like frozen ravioli to me. And last time I checked, that wasn't french. But I digress. This was also the first time I had escargot so I don't know how they're supposed to taste. They had a nice garlic seasoning to them and had a delicate cream sauce. So they were good. Texture was that of liver. Is that how it's supposed to be? I don't know. They didn't come in the shell and my friend who's lived in France said she's never had them that way there. Main entree, I'm going to burn for this, but it was terrible. The sea scallops weren't seared and weren't seasoned. The orange juice made a reappearance at this point as well. The white fish was also flavorless. Cooked well, flaky, which made it a shame. The salmon was horrendous. I had the suspicion it wasn't fresh as it had that pseudo-slime texture and extremely-fishy after taste. Desserts, the only reason I left full and not royally pissed. The chocolate assortment was fantastic and my fiance had a chocolate mousse meringue that was by far the best thing at this place. Overall, glad I experienced it since it removed all curiosity but I will definitely NOT be back or recommend it to anyone.

I travel often to visit friends in Paris, this is the closest i can ever hope for in the states. Truly a foodie and Froggy's does not disappoint. Don't ever skip dessert either! Great wine selection and great service. Food quality is fresh fresh fresh

5 stars for the food and service and 3 stars for the decor. You won't go wrong with the food and wine selections. The mushroom ravioli appetizer was outstanding. The mushrooms were front and center in a not to heavy sauce. The rabbit was very good as were the lamb chops. The decor is a bit outdated, but shouldn't prevent anyone from trying this place. It was our first time there and we'll be going back and back and back...

We were bit saddened when we arrived that there wasn't more seating at the window -where there is a nice Ivy-laden pagoda overlooking the Highwood 'restaurant row'. However, we were pleased when we sat down and were greeted with a bright, friendly, outgoing server. He was very educated about the food, wine, beer, etc. I LOVE great service!!! Brian had the game plate - Venison, Wild Boar, and Pheasant on a plate with potatoes (which he hates) and veggies. He LICKED the plate - even the potatoes! I had eaten lunch only 3 hours earlier so ordered an appetizer of shrimp in an orange cayenne sauce with frizzy lettuce. It was just zesty enough to be exquisite and just understated enough to be creamy. Yum. My brother-in-law had two medallions with blue cheese. He seemed very pleased and the filet mignon looked amazing. I wish I would have tasted but he also licked his plate!!! Three beers, Two meals, Two glasses of wine, One app and one soup -plus we were all three given delicious salads... approx 113.00 bill. Not too bad for such exquisite food! I do wish that the plates weren't so antiquated - which is a weird preference of mine. It cheapened the restaurant a bit to have such 1980's plates. The paintings on the wall were probably all the same artist - very gorgeous. Cozy - small and romantic in the dining room. Because of the open layout the lighting could have been more romantic - it felt a bit too bright. Our table was a bit awkward - so short and close to the bench that my tiny 105 pound frame felt weird squeezing into the booth. All in all it kinda stinks that we couldn't have the front room but we did come during a dinner 'rush' time - even though it was already past 7 p.m. - because the two restaurants next door are closed Mondays. If you go to Froggy's you should know that Monday is a quite busy time for them, by the way!! Nevertheless - amazing finger-licking foods flavored with delicate balance between bold flavors and creamy comfort. We'll likely be back.

What a hidden gem! I highly recommend the pork tenderloin with pineapple glaze. Normally on weeknights they have fabulous reasonably priced specials but you have to ask about them.
(5)Meinhard G.
Yes I am a fan but with a few reservations or comments. Food is very good, service is extremely friendly and the prices are fair specially when ordering the Chefs menu which gives you two appetizers, main dish, desert for $44 (in 2010). Food was plenty and tasty, wine reasonable or cheap at $7 by the glass and nice wines. This is not a fancy / stuffy French Restaurant this is a easy going place, like it! We went Saturday before Easter and it was not busy, what is happening? Should we have gone here 10 years ago? The decorations / paintings on the walls are OK for a place like this but please get rid of all the plastic flowers on the walls!

I have been coming to Froggy's for years, thanks to my parents introducing me to this Highwood institution when I was a kid. I adore French food, and this is probably one of the best deals in the Chicago area, as far as French-inspired fine dining goes. Every time I enjoy a meal at Froggy's, I feel like I'm back in some intimate, delicious bistro in France. Their prix-fixe four course menu is an AMAZING value - one hot appetizer, once cold appetizer, a palate cleanser, one main course item, and one dessert item - for around $40. This is high end, fresh, classic French food prepared wonderfully. In the city, the exact same menu would cost three times as much, if not more. The best part is that you can select the dishes from the regular menu offerings and daily specials - unlike many other restaurants that only give you a couple of course selections for the prix-fixe menu. I can't tell you how many times I've gone elsewhere and went for a prix-fixe meal, and scolded myself at the end of the night for not going to Froggy's. There is one option from the cold appetizer selection that I always order, and that is the selection of pates and terrines. This dish alone is large enough to fill me up, and so delicious. All the selections are home made, and amazing. I always make sure that my stomach is empty when I'm planning to come to Froggy's for a special night and the prix-fixe menu. Unlike other fine dining spots, the dishes here are substantial. You are not going to be getting one teaspoon full of soup, one ravioli, or a shrimp appetizer that has only two little shrimp. In other words, you won't have to go eat pizza after dinner in order to feel full! I also love Froggy's because it's fine dining in a more casual, old-fashioned, romantic atmosphere with more of a bistro feel. The restaurant is decorated with beautiful paintings of France done by the chef's wife. They are lovely and colorful and give the restaurant a warm feeling. Some might call the decoration "dated," but I think this is part of what gives Froggy's its character and charm. It's not trying to be hip, which is why I love it. Also, the service at Froggy's is always flawless, and some of the waiters have been working at the restaurant since I was a kid. It seems rare to find such amazing service elsewhere. I also love the sommelier! Unfortunately I can't remember his name, but every time I go to Froggy's he recommends a wonderful wine pairing, and he's also quite a character. During the weeknights, dinner can bring an older crowd...think cane and walker. On the weekends though, there tends to be more variety age-wise and the place is packed. This is a lovely spot to bring someone for dinner for a special occasion, a date, or even a nice lunch. During the summer there is outdoor seating, which is very nice. I really can't recommend Froggy's enough. Venture out of the city and try something new. Skip the hip, crowded, overpriced fine dining spots in the city that are more focused on mod decorations and cool place settings than timeless food, and make your way out to Highwood to sample classic French fare at a spot that has been open for three decades (three decades...they must be doing something right). You won't be disappointed. I plan to visit Froggy's for fine meals for years to come.

The food here is great. But the ambience is a bit stale - not necessarily in a bad way, kind of like how your mother's house hasn't changed for 20 years.

I have been a fan of Froggy's for as long as I can remember. We ate there 30 years ago and it is still, in most ways the same. The service has always been great and they welcome you like a friend. However, the last 2 times we ate there I was disappointed. Last night we went for my dad's birthday and nothing I was served was terribly good. Sad! I ordered the mussels as a starter and the Chef's seafood selection, 3 different fish dishes. The mussels according to the menu are done with a Pernod cream. They need a better description, I was expecting steamed mussels and got an au gratin, half shell, baked dish. Good but quite heavy, I could feel my arteries closing and the flavor of the mussels was overwhelmed. My fish selection was a delicately sauced barramundi, tasty but very subtle; a very dried out piece of cod with a sauce that was heavy on the turmeric, it was an odd pairing and the fish seemed a bit off (reason for the too strong sauce?); and textureless scallops with an overpowering, extremely orange flavored sauce. The only thing I finished was the barramundi. Finally, I tried some unfinished venison on my father's wild game plate (rabbit pie, richly sauced duck and venison with cassis) it was odd! The venison was very tender but had a distinct acidic flavor under the sauce. Again, made me wonder about the freshness but I am guessing they tenderize the meat with vinegar or something and the flavor remains, to the detriment of the venison's actual flavor. To be fair, we were there on Saturday night and the restaurant was full. The scallops needed a sear and that takes time. I believe the cod went on the plate before the other elements were ready and judging by the skin on the sauce, jerky texture of the fish and extreme plate temp, sat under the lights waiting for the scallops and barramundi, which went on just before serving. Also, I would guess, since it was 8:30 when we got our entrees, that the orange and the cod's sauces reduced and intensified as service wore on during the evening. Overall, I was disappointed, $300+ for 4 people (6 cocktails and a moderately priced bottle of white) and only the service was excellent. I suggest week nights and to Froggy's , maybe it is time to have a fresh eye look at the menu? The world of food keeps moving forward, even for the French.

We have eaten here many times and it has been great. Try the mushroom soup! Some seem to attack the older demographic which to me demonstrates a faithful clientele that knows great dining. Recently we have also seen younger diners who also like good food. It's all about word of mouth. Either way you don't survive for 30 plus years serving food like an earlier reviewer ,Yukon, claims . For him/her I suggest a nice Big Mac down the street at Mc Donalds.
(5)Drew M.
Last night, with some family and friends we had the most delicious meal in a beautiful setting. The floor the ceiling window in the front of the restaurant were wide open. combined with the translucent ceiling, it felt like we were dining outdoors. All of the food was outstanding! I had the Pork tenderloin in a pineapple veal reduction - outstanding!

We had a wonderful dinner here for our five year wedding anniversary. I grew up in the area and remember my parent's bringing me here when I was younger for my first experience with French food. I've sinced moved away but my husband and I happened to be in town for our special occassion and I couldn't think of a better spot to celebrate it. It truly was the perfect night. The dining room was cozy and intimate with beautiful paintings (that we later understood the chef's wife had done). It was an unpretentious atmosphere so felt quite comfortable. Our waiter (an older gentleman who actually had lived back East) was very friendly and made the dinner all the more special (especially since he guessed we were celebrating a special occasion and when we admitted after he asked, he brought out champagne compliments of the chef). My husband and I chose one of the prix fixe menus, where the chef chooses. One starts with three cold appetizers, then three warm appetizers, followed by either three smaller entrees of meat or seafood, and a dessert platter with five minature pieces of their dessert. The food was delicious (succulent escargots, delectable turrines, scrumptious oysters, sweet scallops, and decadent chocolate desserts) and I was honestly quite stuffed by the end :). We were so surprised that the prix fixe option we had chosen was only $44 per person given that this is one of the best meals we've had recently and most restaurants where one would choose to celebrate a similar occassion have prix fixe menus starting at $100 per person. We'll look forward to hopefully celebrating more important celebrations here and eventually taking our toddler daughter to experience French food at its best. If only we lived closer!

I think Yukon C may have had a few too many Makers Marks BEFORE eating at Froggy's because his taste buds seem to have been compromised. I have been going to Froggy's French Cafe for 15 years and have yet to have a bad meal. During the week, there are lunch and dinner specials for under 20.00 that are incredible if he felt that he paid too much. There's a selection of beef, fish, and vegetarian usually on this menu. The soups are delicious, so much so that I often do takeouts at The Gourmet Frog next door. The desserts, like the entrees are luscious. I think if you look at the majority of the reviews for Froggy's you see that most people agree. I guess you can't make all of the people happy all of the time.
(5)Steve H.
I've driven by this place many times, and had dinner in the area more than I can remember. After reading a few reviews I finally decided to stop in. The owner, a charming Frenchman, was very helpful deciphering the extensive wine list. The service was fast, and there wasn't a seat left in the house. And the food, sacrebleu, was phenomenal! Small bites of goat cheese with sun dried tomatoes and seafood paté arrived first, and they were delicious. We had soups, goulash and French onion, and they were equally delicious. I ordered the pork tenderloin in pineapple glaze - the glaze was absolutely amazing! My girlfriend ordered barramundi in a white wine and cream sauce. Now, understand this, I hate fish in all of its cooked forms. Her dinner was the best fish I'd ever had the pleasure of tasting in my life. The owner/manager stayed to chat with us after dinner and he was an absolute pleasure. This place is an keeper, viva la France!
(5)Eman S.
We used Froggy's to cater our wedding a year ago today and they were amazing. Thierry is so helpful and they did an incredible job. I cannot tell you enough good things about their catering and how many compliments we got for the food and how smooth it all went. So for our one-year anniversary, we went back to Froggy's for dinner and that too was so good. We each got the gourmet combo which comes with a cold appetizer, warm appetizer, main course and dessert for $44. It was all so good! Their wine list is very long and the sommelier was really helpful. I really cannot say enough good things about Froggy's. The food is amazing and the service is also top-notch. If there was anything negative for me to say, it would be that a couple in their late twenties will feel VERY young at this restaurant, but you are treated just like everyone else!
(5)D T.
This place is AWESOME. After a regular stop at E Street, we decided to stop at Froggy's. They had semi-outdoor seating, where we choose to eat. An ADORABLE little room. The food is amazing. I had scallop carpaccio/ smoked salmon appetizer, which was phenomenal. Very unique. I also got mussels, which I NEVER order, but I was at a French restaurant, and figure it was a must try. I could drink the broth everyday. For dinner my husband loved his lamb chops and I loved my salmon a la Provence style. It didn't have the slightest hint of fishiness that most all salmon you order has. Probably the best salmon I have ever had. The reasons I couldn't give it 5 stars? 1.) The Caesar salad was $13.00. That's just weird to me, especially considering everything is reasonably priced. 2. ) The wine by the glass was very so-so. Next time I will order a bottle bc I can drink one anyway. :-) 3.) We were ATTACKED by fruit flies the whole time. Not flies, fruit flies....not coming from outside so it kind of grossed me out. I will sit in the dining room next time.
(4)Jeremy O.
Wow....why aren't there 6 stars available? Because I'd use them for a place like Froggy's.... My wife and I love french food and cozy bistros and Froggy's is all that and so much more. The Maitre d' was funny and personable and the service was simply impeccable. We can honestly say the service here was in our top 10 - friendly without being pretentious, attentive without being smothering. Unlike so many other bistros, we never felt rushed and honestly felt like if we just wanted to sit and chat and drink espressos after dinner all night, they would have let us. And the food is quite simply awesome. It sounds crazy but I liked the fact that they offered two different brioches before the meal. The appetizers were great, the entrees were even better. We will definitely be returning!
(5)Eric L.
1. The service here is excellent: friendly and attentive but unpretentious. 2. I've never sat in the actual dining room but the sunroom at the front of the restaurant is great for nice relaxing lunches. 3. The food here is great. Delicious selection of entrees, even better appetizers and desserts. 4. What a deal! The price is right especially for lunch and especially for the fixed price deal (pick any app, entree, and dessert (with sorbet in between app and entree) for a fixed price (i forget how much). 5. It's in the suburbs!
(5)M S.
Froggy's is one of my favorite restaurants. The service is great, warm, welcoming, efficient. The food is excellent, from the marinated gulf shrimp, charcuterie, foie gras first courses, to the lobster with vanilla sauce, beef wellington, dover sole, etc. In 25 yrs. we have never had anything less than a wonder experience at Froggy's. We have also used their in home catering, and can highly recommend Thierry and his staff as exceptional.
(5)Jennifer O.
I've been coming here since the 90's and the food is still ridiculously good. Great French Food , Great Atmosphere, and Great Prices! I always take french food newbies here instead of downtown Chicago. No one leaves unimpressed. Great job guys.
(5)Beryl C.
This place is a gem. I am surprised I didn't see more reviews. We went there on this past Saturday nite to celebrate my b-day. There were 10 of us and both the food and the service were excellent. The servers were great and very attentive. Our reservation was at 6 pm and I was shocked to see how pack the place was -- every single table was being taken in the main dining room. There was maybe 2 tables (small table) left in the front room (the cafe area). 9 of us ordered the Chef Creation Menu -- for $41 you can taste 15 different things -- definitely a great deal. If you are not adventurous, then you can go for the $39 prix fixe menu that you get to pick your own cold appetizer, hot appetizer, entree and dessert. The highlight of the evening was we were sitting right next to WGN's morning news anchor, Larry Potash -- he was with a few of his friends sitting at the booth behind us and then Jerry Krause, former Chicago Bulls GM, came in later and sat at the booth right next to Larry's. We all had a wonderful evening!!! I will definitely go back in the near future.
(5)Rachel H.
I used to come here a lot in high school when I wanted to feel "fancy" (read: snobby/bratty etc.). Truly, in retrospect, Froggy's is not at all snobby. It's a classy place with great French food and very friendly service. I usually go for the beef medallions, but now that I've re-realized that the whole Maine lobster is only 22.95, I plan to get serious next time and dive into that lobster. I wonder if they'll shun me for wearing a Red Lobster plastic bib? They're so nice, they probably wouldn't.
(4)Jessica O.
Froggy's is one of those places that really stresses food. This might seem like it's a redundant comment, but really... there are few restaurants out there that really focus on developing the flavor of food that don't charge an arm and a leg. As far as French food is concerned, this place is highly under-priced. You only spend a few dollars more than you would at a TGI Friday's, and get a WHOLE lot more. I suggest going withe chef's menu. You get to choose one item from each course selection. During Valentine's Day, other holidays or slow seasons (such as the fall) Froggy's offers special prices which can't be beaten. This place isn't fully out frou-frou. The dining room is very full, this isn't the type of place to go for a quiet romantic meal, but it is very cozy. If you want a good meal with some great service, I recommend this place!
(5)George F.
THE GOOD Service, food, food, love in the food, the food, artistry, flavor, food. THE BAD can be loud during holidays (Valentines Day), if you're not experienced with good places, you won't know what you're getting (and if you don't like it, what you're missing). THE UGLY this is a crappy review layout, because there's nothing that actually goes in this section... this place is wonderful. PARENTS: don't take your rug(b)rats here unless they appreciate culinary arts, have traveled, cook, know how to chew, have a developed palate, and preferably all the above. You'll feel like an idiot if you fail to heed this warning. The looks you'll get will serve as reminders. SIGNIFICANT OTHERS: definitely take advantage of the Valentines Day (or whatever) specials they do here. Multi-course meals, and still enough left in your pocket to take him/her to that cheesy action/romantic comedy movie, or share a bottle of campaign on ice back home. TRY the veal, the lamb chops with raspberry reduction, the dessert menu, get a drink at the bar while you wait to be seated, enjoy each bite slowly
(4)K B.
Froggy's is THE place to go if you want amazing, authentic French cuisine. The staff is unbelievably knowledgeable and accommodating. The mushroom soup is a must!
(5)Laila L.
Uhhhhh.....how are there only 7 reviews of Froggy's?! The food here is so good it's silly -- I recommend the lamb chops or the veal for your main course. My mom, wild woman that she is, got the chef's creation which gives you a little bit of a few different entrees and she was a happy girl. Our server was exactly what you'd expect in a place like Froggy's -- older, a lifer, full of funny stories, who treats service like it's own form of dance. But the place, emphasized by the fact that there ARE little sculptures of frogs sitting around, is comfortable and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Wow, this place was a disappointment considering all of the high reviews. We came here on a weekday afternoon, so it wasn't crowded. Our server was AMAZING. He was all over the place! Always making sure we were taken care of, and with plenty of suggestions. Very accommodating too, as my wife chose the chef's creation thing but we wanted to make sure that they didn't use a few ingredients due to dietary restrictions. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. I had the veal blanquette casserole. It was......odd. Salt was the seasoning of choice, and the chef didn't hold back. The veal was decent, though the texture was that of pot roast. But it came with this flaky crust thing baked to the rim of the bowl. Is it supposed to be like a pot pie? I guess it was supposed to be scraped off into the casserole, but it was stuck on so hard that I was left awkwardly hacking at the thing and getting crumbs everywhere. On to my wife's chef's creation. The chef has an affinity for orange juice. One of the cold appetizers turned out to be their Marinated Gulf Shrimp. It claims that it is seasoned with orange, coconut, and cayenne pepper vinaigrette, but all we could taste was shrimp in orange juice. The same thing happened with the scallops in the main course: they were barely seared scallops sitting in a bath of orange juice. The flavor(s?) just didn't work. Dessert was a saving grace. I had the chocolate coffee mousse cake, which was amazing. Very rich, tasty, and actually unexpected next to the rest of the meal. We really wanted to like it, but this place needs work.

Froggy's: This is a French restaurant. There have been a few small banquets for family friends that have been held in the basement of this place. I do not remember much about the food here...but a quick story nonetheless. There is a small bar area to the left when you walk in the door. About six years ago, my friend and I saw about four, 30 year old ladies, dressed to the nines, having a drink as we walked by. My buddy and I went in wearing jeans and asked if they wanted to go across the tracks (both literally and figuratively) to Teddy O's and forget their fancy dinner that they were waiting for. They left with us and we all got bombed at Teddy's. These ladies actually drove us back to my buddy's house and they said it was the most fun they had ever had. I guarantee that they remember, to this day, that night.

Just had our 5th meal at Froggies, and can say, YUM! It never dissapoints, the service is perfect, the food is awesome. We went tonight, a Friday, and had the 'before 6pm March specials.' I don't know another place we can eat so well, (maybe DeerPath Inn English Room), but for $55.55 dinner for two all in which included a generous tip, all I can say is Froggies, thank you! That was a drink each, appetizer, salad or soup, entree, rolls. I had a cocktail, escargot, gazpacho and duck a' l'orange, with perfect veggies and mashies.

This place is overrated. Service is pretty good, food okay. We were the youngest ones there. The tables are all too close together and hard to move without bumping into someone and you can hear all the conversations around you too well.

The food is delicious here...however not a great place for vegetarians. Everytime I've been here, I've requested a special meal, however they always do so without any questions and it's always tasty. They have a pretty nice wine selection and they make good cocktails. Best for meat eaters and such.

Wow! I haven't been here in years but my memories of this place are amazing. This is the restaraunt that gave me a new perspective on French food and the prices are right. The deserts are amazing and I really love their chicken dishes. Also, I find it very romantic and inviting. If you want a gormet meal for a non gormet price go here. You will NOT be dissapointed.

This is the best restaurant I have been to in a while and I've been to quite a few places recently. The prix fixe menu is an amazing deal. There are 3 options...I went with the gourmet which includes one cold appetizer, one hot app., one entree, and one dessert and you can choose from anything on the menu, even daily specials! The seattle oysters on the half-shell were fresh and totally delicious. The service is superb. The servers talk to you like they've known you even if you just met them. The chef selection set is the chef's choice, but every course is a trio of tastes so you can try a little of everything.
