This is our favorite breakfast place in town. It's definitely less crowded on week days than on weekends, if you have the choice. I've never had a bad dish, but our personal favorites and the blueberry pancakes & eggs Benedict w potatoes. Oh, and the staff is always super sweet and accommodating!

Servings are huge. I ordered omelet which was decent. The French toast were really well down. Lady who served us was very nice the whole time. Definitely made us feel welcomed. I took one star off because I found a little thread in my omelet. Seemed liked a thread from a flour bag or something. Everything else was great. The place is a little pricy then a regular breakfast place.

Love Cafe Pettopia. Me fav's are the Italian Frittata and the huge bowl of oatmeal with bananas. Small neighborhood cafe with great personal service.

Few years ago Pettopia was my breakfast spot. My friends and I would eat there on our days off and the waitress knew our names and order. Eventually we stopped going because the cooking got sloppy and service got real slow and unfriendly. Recently went there for the first time in almost a year and here is why I won't ever go back again. The place cannot handle more than 4 customer at a time. Every time they get remotely busy the waitress starts loudly proclaiming to the customers that it's goin to be a 45 min wait. 45 turns into an hour and throughout that time the waitress is turning people away that are walking into store. I mean they must have pushed out over 8 hungry people because a table of 6 sat down. While I was waiting for my food I got the pleasure of discovering all the dark, encrusted build up on there floors, excessive crumbs underneath the tables, and generally unhygienic way the waitress scoops old ice from a dirty bucket into my freshly poured Highwood tap water. When my food finally came my Italian sausage omelet was burnt, and so were my potatoes. Honestly I fell in love with this place when it opened. However it is not that same anymore. Slow food, dirty, an odd staff with an approach to business that says "don't come in we don't want ur money" is exactly why I am never going in there again. And if you do, read this and I challenge you to prove me wrong.

Great Server!!! My problem was I saw the owner come out and get in a fight with somebody about their potatoes! He was extremely rude and condescending to an old man! Breakfast is the easiest meal to cook, I will never go back there!!

I love this restaurant, it's an Excellent breakfast spot. Everything on the menu, especially "Mike's potatoes" is delicious I have gone alone and in groups. Wish I Lived closer but well worth the 25 minutes I drive to get there.

Amy will call you honey, or sweetie and it's meant with the best of intentions... she really does think you're honey or sweetie. The omlettes are terrific, mine was filled with ham-off-the-bone. Nice and fluffy accompanied by hot sauce, and hot coffee. The potatoes that accompany the eggs were crispy and delicious, and the place, while small, is bright and charming. I've been back a number of times... try the pancakes... with or without bananas. The French toast (on French bread) sounds better than it is... the French bread kinda fights you... but still tasty. I give it five stars, not because the food was the very best in the world, although it was good... but because Amy makes you feel at home, and that's worth it's weight in gold.

Last Saturday, I joined my wife for brunch at Cafe Pettopia and had a very serviceable experience. While the food was good, it was not spectacular. The service was friendly, but with the number of tables v. the number of staff, I could see how other diners have had issues. We arrived late in the morning/early in afternoon and there were only a few other tables. Overall, we had a satisfying meal with attentive service. I had the frittata and my wife had the two-eggs breakfast. I thought my frittata was good and would recommend. My wife threaded the needle by ordering over-medium eggs. She thought they were a little runny, but I can forgive that. Who really knows what over-medium means? They weren't liquid, they weren't solid and my lovely wife ate them, so -- close enough? No one (certainly not me) expects someone to navigate the troublesome waters between over-easy and over-hard without bumping a rock. The potatoes are good, but not amazing. Not something I would hang my name on. But seriously: not bad, either. Not something for which I'd exclude the restaurant from consideration. Looking at the poor reviews I've seen of Pettopia and balancing them against the great reviews I've seen of Pettopia, I have no problem believing all of them. When it's good, it believe it's great and when it's overwhelmed it can see it go downhill quick. Honestly, a good scrub (and a reduction in the number of tables) would transform this diner into a real gem. Decent food and a warm manageable service (in a spotless dining room with -- I can't stress this enough -- zero silk flowers) will keep people coming back to this tucked away place. I'll eat there again, no doubt. They could improve, but I think their heart and direction is in the right place. Give them a chance, but (maybe) not if they're super busy.

I have dined here on two occasions so I believe this to be a very fair review. Service is super slow! They will account for this by saying ... "We only have one cook". But seriously, this last time it took over an hour for our food! There were maybe three tables ahead of us. One of them was fairly large with five or six people. The other two tables were one two top and one four top. I could easily have made all those breakfasts faster than we were served. On this particular morning, I think that they were very distracted by the fact that a wedding party of 10 had called to say that they were coming in. Then they weren't, then they were. They did eventually show up. But by the time the wedding party showed we had already been there almost an hour, without any food. First we sat for 10 minutes without anyone offering us menus or something to drink. I finally had to flag someone down who told me it was actually the other waitresses table but that she would go ahead and take care of us. I asked if I could please have a cup of coffee. I was told that it was brewing and that I would have to wait! Okay, it came. But our food didn't. My coffee was gone thirty minutes ago, no food and no one offered any more coffee let alone an explanation for the length of time that had passed. Again, I had to flag her down and ask for some more coffee. Again, I was told that they were out and that I would have to wait for it to brew. After the coffee had brewed she came and refilled my cup and brought another so that I would have two cups of coffee in front of me. I found that to be a bit "in your face" Like here you go, you demanding customer, here's your stinkin' coffee! But I say why can't you keep on top of a customer's cup and keep it full and hot. This way it got cold. The food took so long that we were just about to throw a few bucks on the table for the coffee and leave when our food finally arrived. The food is of good portion size and fine. They are well known for their potatoes and they are pretty good but honestly there are plenty of places that do good potatoes. I had the Italian sausage and mozzarella omelette this time and last time the spinach omelette. They were both fine but the cheese could have been more evenly distributed. My friend had the gourmet french toast and found it to be ordinary. While I really like to support small independent local establishments I think that I am done with this one.

Good yelp brunch find. Small little shop but a very good and tasty brunch menu. Visit if near.

I was detoured by extreme hunger on the way to Milwaukee. I got the tomato and brie cheese omelet. It was weird, but the portions were good. My wife's ham and cheddar cheese omelet was better than mine. Overall, it was decent, but nothing that would knock my socks off. The staff was nice and the decor was very homey. I would give the food a 3 star and an extra star for the service.

I love this place! It's only open for breakfast and lunch. The quality of the food was fantastic and fresh. The red sauce is amazing, the staff is super friendly and the quality of the food is amazing. I had the omelet with Italian sausage and Mike's potatoes, YUM. The Italian bread was so fresh and so good, I ate every one of the 4 huge pieces. The portions are large and the restaurant is clean with a great atmosphere. Mike's dad was there and is such a nice man with great Italian restaurant recommendations. This is a throw back to a neighborhood place where the service is good and you talk amongst each other. I will definitely be going back.

I heard such wonderful things about this place so me and my family decided to come in. It definitely wasn't what we expected at all. There was dust lined up the wall and hanging from the lamps. They don't use anything to sanitize any of the tables. I ordered the eggs Benedict and the sauce was freezing cold and the potatoes weren't even properly cooked all the way. The service was horrible because they have no waitress and the chef was doing it alone and he was so mean because he was doing it himself. When he came out my toast dropped on the floor and be picked it up and put it right back on my plate. As I can say I walked the hell out and will never return. His attitude shows and that would explain why he has no employess

My favorite little breakfast place. Small restaurant that can be crowded on weekends, but the owner/chef cooks everything himself so the quality is outstanding. Highly recommend the Italian frittata and the Italian sausage egg sandwich. "Mike's" potatoes are very good.

Gourmet breakfast that is incredible but there is a for sale sign on the front window so I dont want to get too hooked on the place if they change owners. Great tasting, creative breakfast food. The portions are huge. We ordered a short stack of pancakes, the fratatta and the sausage patty and had enough left over for breakfast the next morning. for 2 people

Hands down the best breakfast food I've had! They are unfortunately closing soon if given an offer so visit as soon as you can! Chef Mike is moving back out to Colorado, his food will be missed!

A great little bistro-y cafe! Random chance landed our group here for lunch and it was a delightful surprise. Pros: - great menu: sandwiches, paninis, a nice-looking burger, great salad selections leaning toward the "with goat cheese crumbles" end of the spectrum, soup du jour (homemade French onion was today's) - friendly service - hometown feel - affordable prices Cons: - unassuming strip mall location - weirdish name

We've driven by Pettopia for a while now and finally got a chance to stop in--it was great! It's terrific to have a local spot with a fun team, delicious food, and a warm atmosphere.

Hate to be the nay-sayer of the bunch, but the place has very exceptional food, with a large side of bitchy servers. A bit crowded and small. Sloppy and under-decorated interior. Would probably visit several other establishments before returning.

Terrific, fresh food. Their homemade sausage is terrific. A little cramped, and a slow kitchen, but worth it for the wonderful food. Also good coffee.

Food: The breakfast food was good whenever I had breakfast there. The club sandwich and potatoes are the reason why I liked the place though. Service: The previous waitress was friendly and welcoming. The current person is just plain dry/rude. During my last my visit I was so uncomfortable/annoyed with her pompous type attitude, I just wanted to leave, but I had already ordered. She was also very dismissive when an older customer asked her a simple question. Doubt that 'll come back.

I had another delicious breakfast here this morning. Just opting for the basic (e-t-m&c), which included perfectly poached eggs (you would not believe how many places screw this up), perfectly toasted whole wheat bread, and their amazing homemade Italian sausage. The coffee was great and continually refilled. One suggestion...re-think the music. Rap music at 8am does not a perfect day start!

This little cafe, open for breakfast and lunch only, is a wonderful addition to the area. I think it's difficult to find a great breakfast place in the burbs that isn't a chain with the usual suspects on the menu, so Pettopia is a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend the J.W. Sandwich for breakfast (choice of bacon, italian sausage or ham with cheese and scrambled eggs on italian toast) or any of their omelettes. On their lunch menu, the italian beef is delicious. Not greasy like at the fast food places, but sliced extremely thin and very tender. The Italian Panini is also great. Very pleasant service and great prices.

This is really a great, small neighborhood place. They obviously care about how each part of your breakfast is. I don't usually eat breakfast potatoes, but Cafe Pettopia's are fantastic. We live a mile from here, it's our definite breakfast go-to, and the service is a-ok!
