Three star restaurant that gets an extra an extra for having the Irish breakfast! If you ever been to Ireland you know that breakfast is eggs, rashers (bacon), bangers (sausage), black and white pudding (different sausage), grilled tomato, and occasionally beans. Since this is the only place I know of that has it in the area I tell people to go and try it. I must warn you that the black and white pudding is not for everyone, eat at your own risk! Everything else here is on par for a breakfast place and is worth having.

Sammie's is old school. Nothing fancy, but good food and great service. Breakfast all day, they close at 3:00P.M.. They are open later on Friday and do a Fish fry (never been) so I cant attest to the quality of that. I am a pancake fanatic. Sammie's makes the best pancakes. Just as great as southern Belles with better sugar-free syrup. My Husband is a Lumes fan, but likes the coffee at Sammie's much better. He enjoys their greek omelet. They are very accommodating. If you want something that isn't quite on the menu ie: a certain combination if ingredients for an omelet they will try to make it for you. Please don't ask on Sunday when they are way to busy. Sandy, one of the waitress might look at you like you are crazed. Yeah the ambiance is lacking, and the place is old, but clean. AS long as the food is good who cares what the place looked like....

I come here all the time and always order the same thing. Egg white farmers scrambler, side of canadian bacon and wheat toast dry. I have been coming here since I was so young and I like that they can accommodate to healthy lifestyles. They are extremely friendly and not expensive! Great breakfast.

Hubby & I are on the quest for the perfect hash browns, saw this place had the hb's along w/ decent reviews on yelp so we've tried the plane twice now. First time was pretty good, today, notsomuch. The place is inside an old Browns chicken, clean, tables are a tad crowded. Breakfast both times - eggs, hash browns (better than some places but not quite crispy enough), french toast, bacon. The quality of the food was fine - french toast is actually very good & the service is efficient. I ordered a Denver omlet today w/ rye toast, hubby ordered the french toast w/ crispy bacon. Ten minutes after ordering, the omlet & french toast came out w/ the promise the toast & bacon were coming out. 5 minutes later (well into my omlet), toast comes out w/ the promise that the bacon is coming right out. The place is not big & we could hear the waitress asking the kitchen for the crispy bacon at least 3 times then she'd come around again to let us know it was coming. It finally came out as we were finishing breakfast. The waitress was apologetic, I let her know we'd like to express our disappointment to the owner. She said he was the cook & likely wouldn't come out of the kitchen - seriously?!?! The Owner is the cook who could care less about putting all components of a meal on the table at the SAME TIME?!?!?!? We were going to express our disappointment to the hostess who we believe may be part owner but as we stepped up to pay, she stepped away & we ended up paying our waitress. Won't be back.

Service was horrible food was ok. They forgot to give us menus, drinks and they forgot to bring us our to-go box. They did apologize for it, but I feel like the wait time for what we ordered was just ridiculous. They need more servers.

Let me tell you, this is one of the best place to have breakfast in this area. I got the biscuits and gravy combo. The food came out on 2 full plates. The service was great, I didn't have to wait for drink refills at all. I would of given this place a star if they would make the decor a little bit more pleasant. I definitely recommend the food though.

I ordered the three cheese omelette with broccoli and sausage. It was pretty tasty. The service was a little disappointing though considering it took the waitress about 10 minutes to come over when we first sat down and the wait time for the food was a bit excessive. It's a cute little place, kind of a tight space but that's ok cause they're able to seat a lot of people. I would say it could be a little cleaner though. Overall, pretty good experience. I'd for sure go back.

This is the perfect mom and pop joint, the staff is so friendly. The food is great and the portions are rather large so I allways have enough to take home. For 2 people it usually costs me around $25 and that's a steal for how good it is here. Love!! I've been going here for years. It's worth it. Chocolate chip pancakes are so good.

Typical "hole in the wall" diner which I love. The food was fantastic and hot. They give you large portions. I'll be back

Went there today because of all the great reviews. Pretty disappointed. Service was ok.. except for my food coming after the family's did . Food was not bad ...just meh. The booths are horrible n old n very uncomfortable Wife ordered eggs benidict and our kid ordered the french toast eggs n sausage, I the country skillet w pancakes. Their food came out hot n looking great. My pancakes came but the rest took another 5 min. Finally it comes and it's hot n fresh but that's about it. If I can make the same stuff at home...I will. There was nothing special about the food. Like I said not bad ....just run of the mill breakfast

I've been to this local restaurant many times, but only for breakfast or lunch. Think it is better here at the new location than when it was located in the strip mall down the street. And I think the difference is due to improvements in the kitchen. Sammie's offers some very tasty options, especially for breakfast. And my impression is that they actually make many of their dishes like the waffles, pancakes, and french toast. And the poached eggs (often pretty tricky to ensure they are soft) are always excellent with no taste of vinegar at all. Even the sausage links look and taste very different. Very, very chubby and not loaded with salt like the frozen brands. Fries, tho, are straight out of a food services plastic bag, imo. Service is friendly, fast, and efficient. Always satisfying to recommend a neighborhood establishment, especially when it is very fairly priced.

We eat here a couple of times a month. The staff is so friendly. The food is exactly what you'd expect from a neighborhood diner -- good food, plenty of it, something for everyone. No matter when we arrive there are people in the restaurants. Yes, it could use a refresh, but we don't go to a neighborhood diner for the ambiance. We do go back again and again for the people.

I go here usually once a week. I love the food and all the staff they are friendly And quick with the refills. Th porky pig skillet is to die for and I have to say have never had a bad meal here. I love sitting at the counter at the high chairs they call it the comedy section you get to joke around more and chat with the staff!

I was pleasantly surprised to discover how good this place was because it's in a Hickory Hills strip mall, one I've known for too long. The menu is stacked with yummy breakfast goodness. I saw that Rick A said they serve up a traditional Irish breakfast, I didn't see it on the menu but I will definitely be back to try to score me some rashers and a grilled tomatoe -Snap! Service was par, not enthusiastic but then again the bottom of my decaf cup of joe never saw the fluorescent light of day. I had the greek omlette which was slammed full of some yummy salty feta and grilled onions and tomatoes, so good, Mmm. and english muffin =, I always ask for extra toasting on it so it's not raw with un-melted butter on it. Overall It is a 3 1/2 but hey there's always room for improvement.

Not the usual breakfast place I find myself in, well that's not entirely true, I have been to Sammy's cafe before but its not my first choice when it comes to finding breakfast outside the house, even though Sammy's is situated right across the street. Literally. I do have to say that Sammy's has probably one of the more friendly staffs I've encountered, but the food...while their portions are on the rather large side the food is rather on the bland side, and as I looked around the place I can see why. Most of Sammy's patrons look to be on the other side of death or just this side out it and just haven't realized it yet. When, at 40, I'm the youngest person in a place there's something wrong. But if you're elderly and looking for a nice bland meal then Sammy's cafe is for you. But, if you're elderly then you are more than likely not reading this review...lol Cheers

This was my first visit to Sammie's in their new location. They moved from the strip mall by Fairplay to the old Brown's Chicken building a block or so down 95th Street. The new location is much smaller, and rather cramped. The exterior of the building is still the same as Brown's, and the parking lot is a crumbling mess. The interior was modified some, and only a fraction of the original decorations made it to the new place. I was hoping the change in location wasn't going to have any effect on the great service and food that I have come to love. Service was still spectacular, but the food was not up to par. My scrambled eggs came out fine, but my side of Gyro meat was so dried out and crunchy, that no amount of cucumber sauce was going to salvage it. Same can be said for my stale and crumbling toast. I am hoping all this boils down to working out some new location kinks, since Sammie's has always been my favorite hometown breakfast haunt.

We love this little diner. They have a lot of options, and we've never been disappointed with anything we've ordered here. Some of our favorites: Sammie's Special (the 2 older kids fave), chocolate chip pancakes (the little guy's fave), breakfast burritos, Italian omelette, or country fried steak and eggs (the adults' faves). We also love walking in and being recognized and asked how we're doing - very homey feeling. However - it's no longer located on the east side of 88th. It's just west of 88th on the south side of 95th.

Went to fish fry last week- shrimp were bad. They were burnt and hardly any shrimp inside- all burnt breading. Sorry I didn't alert the manager.

I ate here for the first time a few days ago. While I'm giving it 3 stars, I would probably not make an effort to eat here again simply based on the overall ambiance. Pros VALUE: We were there on a Friday night so we ordered from the fish fry menu. The AYCE fish fry is a great value, especially since they do this whole old-school thing where they start you off with little dishes of salads for the table - coleslaw, kidney bean salad and pasta salad. We also got a bread basket, soup and dessert. CHICKEN: Fried chicken is actually one of the options for the AYCE fish fry and it was absolutely delicious. Unlike many restaurants, their fry batter is well seasoned and I could tell that they use the proper temperature of oil for deep frying (resulting in a crispy coating that's not greasy). Cons AMBIANCE/OVERALL FEEL: This place is really out-dated and cramped. I hate to call it "dirty" because I don't actually think it's dirty. However, it does kinda come off as dirty because of how old the building is. The tables are so crowded together that the wait staff cannot even access all of the tables without having to squeeze behind diners' chairs. We sat at one of the tables (they also have booths) and I felt like we were nearly sitting on top of the people at the next table over.

Whenever I go to my local grocery store, I drive by Sammies. I am fairly new to the area, so I am always eager to try new places and have been chomping at the bit to try Sammies. The "Irish Breakfast Served Daily" sign in the window sparked my interest, as I recently went on a trip to Ireland so yesterday, I decided to try it. It was really busy as it was a Sunday morning and the after church crowd was out in full effect. However, we didn't wait long to get a table. The waitstaff was friendly and accommodating but most importantly, the food was delicious! Nice sized portions, nice flavors and an excellent breakfast menu. I was even pleasantly surprised at the taste of the coffee. It is very common to be served burnt, stale coffee at resturants such as these.... but the coffee was hot, fresh, robust and lovely. If you're around the Hickory Hills area, I would stop in Sammies and try your luck. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

This restaurant has now changed it's name to Samme's Cafe. Do not think for one moment the the quality has changed one bit. This is still one of the best places for a hearty breakfast in the SW suburbs. It is not well known outside of the area as it is located in a strip mall. The interior is rather small but still comfortable. It can get very busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings but the tables will turn around fast. You will always get quick effecient service and good food especially for breakfast. They have so many options for you to choose from and their Biscuits and Gravy are some of the best that you can find in the area. On Friday night they have an all you can eat fish fry where you can choose from perch, catfish, shrimp, or even chiken strips. That is another local favorite. The only thing standing in the way of a five star rating is that their lunch menu is rather common and there is nothing that can stand out as a signature menu item although their soups are very good and the quality is consistant.
