Had carry out lunch for the first time from Tina's. I knew it was going to be epic from the smell as soon as you walk in. And the entire place was packed around 1pm. It's kinda awkward because the counter/prep/cashier/dessert case hits you right when you walk in. But man, is the food good! I had one of the many daily specials: chicken salad on foccacia with a specialty side salad. The sandwich was filling and absolutely yummy! The salad was equally delightful (although tiny in portion), with fresh fruits and field greens and a side cup of refreshing house dressing. The service was hospitable and quick. I'm so glad this place is right across the street from my work.

The best Italian food period! I'm originally from New York and there's places everywhere, but not like this. I'm from Sicily had she's cooking just like my aunt and mom...With love! Great place, great food, great people!

The YELP reviewers are right on again. What a find. It's such a neat little joint with a counter and several tables. I was going to take my order to go but I decided to stay and also bring home something for dinner. My Antipasti salad was great and the sausage, meatball and red peppers I took home were just as good as the salad. The salad was packed with Italian cold cuts and cheeses and some funky greens. I'll get it again and again. Do what you can to beat the rush cause the wait line can be long. I can't wait to try this place again.

This place is absolutely adorable. It's like having lunch at your Italian grandmother's home...doilies on the tables, tons of framed pictures of grandchildren, and delicious home-cooked food. I just loved the atmosphere. A woman (I assume it was Tina) was chopping vegetables on the counter while we ate. The food was fantastic. I had the insalata di pollo (chicken salad) sandwich on homemade bread with provolone, lettuce, tomato and pesto spread. It was huge. I ate half for lunch and took the other half home. I actually turned around to drive a mile back and get it when I realized I had left it in my in-laws' fridge! Then I had it for breakfast the next day. My mother-in-law had the ravioli and sister-in-law had the lasagna and they both enjoyed their meals as well. We also took home a bunch of desserts. I especially liked the canoli.

Yes! Forget all the chains and the crappy food court in the mall, just stop here before you do your shopping! It's way worth it! Yes, I bought into the hype of this being the top rated place, but I also had a hankering for some cannoli's so this was the place to stop. It was busy and it took a couple minutes for us to be seated as well as it took a couple minutes for our order to be taken, but it wasn't terrible. The employees here seemed a little weary, I don't know if they're used to being this packed or if it was just a long day. We ordered, I had the Cheese Lasagna Special, my Wife had the Provolone e Verdure Sandwich. We were treated to fresh Italian bread with Olive oil and Parmesan before our meal. Tina's showcases there meals wisely, as we were instantly impressed by the soft and crusty bread. We cleared a plate and the very quickly brought another one over. The meals came and I couldn't have been happier. The sauce alone in the cheese lasagna was mouthwatering, but couple that with the fact that this was packed so full of cheese (I counted generous portions of three different kinds, but there could have been more) and you have a damn good piece of lasagna. My wife's sandwich was packed full of sautéed veggies and cheese and it was on the same type of bread we were served before with some Parmesan dusted chips on the side. The couple bites of this I had were awesome. If that wasn't good enough, we decided to indulge in dessert. My wife had the cannoli cake and I had the cannoli. The cake was soft, rich and delicious. This is one of the few places that I know of that actually make a proper cannoli to the nines with everything included, even pistachios and candied citrus. Absolutely amazing. I see many trips in the near future.

I absolutely have to up my review from 4 to 5 stars for Tina's Italian Bakery. Is it because we share a first name? I'll never admit to that. What I will admit to is being addicted to so many of the wonderful dishes here, like the pumpkin ravioli with field greens and roasted (both chewy & soft and almost bacon-y) sweet potatoes (all served cold), the eggplant Parmesan (baked, but you'd never guess it), the chicken salad sandwich with pesto spread on focaccia bread and summer salad (fresh, just fresh flavors all around), the gnocchi with Bolognese sauce (so light & airy, delicious sauce) and practically ever other dish I've had here. I've honestly never had anything here I didn't like, save one fluke of a salty sausage, but even that had great flavor and texture. They make most things from scratch, including their breads, but not most pastas. A bread basket with EVOO and parm is complimentary, but if I may suggest, ask for a single whole slice of their cheesy focaccia warmed- or better yet, fresh from the oven. DROOL. So good! Their menu is not very large, but it doesn't need to be when you know what you're doing. The inside is charming in a kitschy but cute Italian kind of way, including peppy Italian tunes playing over the speaker. It's an awfully cute ambiance. Prices in some cases may be a couple dollars over average bistros, but IMO, the food is above average. The servers are always friendly and the food is delivered quickly. I've also left my mark here, apparently, since I'm always on the prowl for that pumpkin ravioli salad (seasonal). Today when we arrived for a late lunch, our server saw me and said, "pumpkin ravioli" with a little wink. It made me giggle, then cry when she said they were out, then giggle again when she found out Tina would make me more. And my server said, "with extra greens, right?" Yes, right! I freaking love her!! "I just love you," I said. And it's true. The way to my heart is most definitely through my stomach. :-) P.S. They make a lovely small latte, with a mountain of firm/foam. A word about desserts. Considering it's a bakery, there's not as many as you'd think, but it's all homemade: cookies, cannolis, tiramisu (custardy cup or traditional), etc. The bread pudding- especially the bourbon caramel bread pudding- will knock your socks off...or at least pop a button off your pants.

Tina's is an awesome place. The food is great and always fresh. Today is our pre-wedding party and we wanted Tina's food to serve to out guest. We were so disappointed to be told that Tina's is closed for the weekend but Tina came in and prepared our food just for us. Who does that? Nobody but Tina. She has catered several of our parties and we have never been let down. Love the place.

Had the Italian beef yesterday (yes yesterday) it was good. Not bad not great but very good. Nothing to compare it to since I never had it before. Today was another story! Ordered the lasagna & salad to go and a cannoli for dessert. Lasagna was delicious! Just right amount of sauce, cheese, meat and spices. Easy to cut with plastic fork and tasty enough to clean my plate. Salad a was nice spring salad with olive oil type dressing which was equally tasty. Cannoli was crispy, light just right amount of sweet and delicious! Thank you Tina! Loved it! Going back for more tomorrow.

I can't believe I have lived in this area for 10 years and I have never been here. What a hidden gem! The Low-Carb Chicken Salad was great along with the homemade bread. The service was great. I felt like I was back in Italy. I will be back!!

Everyone has written about the very good service and food. I was impressed with the little extras that let you know that the customer is number one at this wonderful place. Asked for a box to take home some of my pasta . They brought me an aluminum container with a generous helping of sauce on the bottom of the container. I take home food from restaurants all the time and this is only the second restaurant that has ever done this. Today I had to get more of their delicious cookies and decided to pick up some hot lunches. Both came with salad. When they bagged up all my purchases, the hot things were in one bag and the room temp or cold items were in another bag. Once again, they were thinking of the customer. It is the little things that really make a restaurant special. Tina's does the little things.

My husband and I moved from the city a year ago and we're still trying to find good food. We just tried Tina's for the first time and it's definitely going to become a "go to". The food was absolutely delicious, the interior is comfortable and adorable, and the staff are very accommodating.

Tina's is the best lunch spot in Gurnee. I have been coming here for years and the food has always been excellent and the service is terrific. Almost every time, Tina comes to our table to personally greet us and thank us for coming. The cafe has a warm cozy atmosphere and the staff always friendly. The service is always great and the experience is awesome every time.

Tina's is the highest rated restaurant on Yelp in Gurnee. It's close to my other favorite Momcorn, so I decided to try it out for more than some cookies to go. At 12:45p on a Thursday, I walked into a smallish bakeshop-cafe packed to the gills with patrons. You have to wait at the register behind other people who want to pick up their phone orders, order food to go and pay for their meal just to be acknowledged that you are interested in eating in. I am still a little perplexed about what makes this particular place so inordinately popular. The menu consists of sandwiches which come with a side of Parmesan dusted potato chips, salads, soups and some pasta dishes. I think the draw is that everything is made from scratch, seems light and is quite good. As I waited, I saw the many sandwiches and salads coming out from behind the prep center quite quickly. I ordered a soup of the day, cream of roasted red pepper which was just a bit salty for my taste but light and delicious otherwise. Since I had eggplant parmigiana on my mind since yesterday, I was happy to see it on the menu. It was awesome-- as good as it gets! Very light with a delicate marinara and stringy mozzarella, the eggplant dissolves as you eat it. The side salad was perfect with a light balsamic vinaigrette and a couple of Parmesan shavings. The cannoli presentation for dessert was classically beautiful. I'd give it a good+ rating because I like a bit of anise in the filling and this had a vaguely orange taste. Rounds of a soft Italian bread accompanied my meal which were dressed with a shaker of olive oil and a ramekin of freshly grated Parmesan. Once seated, which I'll admit didn't take longer than about 10 minutes, service was very fast. I didn't wait for anything. Courses came quickly, the asked about my satisfaction and whisked away my dishes. I was seated next to the register, so there were standing people very near me throughout my meal. Maybe because it's all homemade or maybe it's because they really don't do anything wrong (although I'd suggest a hostess) which explains why this place is so highly rated and popular. I talked to Tina working the register as I was leaving and complimented her on the eggplant. She said it was light like her mother used to make in Sicily. I asked her, "What's your secret?" She responded, "My secret is love."

One of my family's very favorite restaurants. Tina is from Italy and her authentic Italian food is the best! I usually don't change what I get as I am in love with their Mango Chicken Salad with the Gorgonzola cheese, berries and drizzled w/a light fruit vinaigrette. The focaccia bread is awesome too! My family is more adventurous and has loves everything they have tried. The service is great and the servers usually are the same people so they are consistent and Tina herself even makes visits to the tables to "check in" when she has time. Only negative? They are only open 11-3:30 ish daily and Saturdays-closed Sundays when you crave their food! If those are the only negatives why wouldn't you go?!

Tina's has good food, nice portion size (decent but not too big that you feel stuffed and yucky afterward) and a nice variety. I had the soup and half sandwich combo with eggplant parm, and it was lovely. The soup was good, too-- the day I was there (Feb 16, 2013), they had roasted red pepper along with their daily option of minestrone. I went with the red pepper and it was very nice. My only complaint was the tiramisu--it comes in a little cup and has good flavor, but unfortunately, I found it to be mostly cheese filling and not so much ladyfinger. I got tired of the richness and didn't finish it (which is really, really weird for me). I'd be happy to go back, though, especially for takeout. We were sitting far from the door but the wintery air chilled us every time someone entered are left regardless.

I entered into the cute little cafe expecting some great food after reading the rave reviews on here and I was honestly disappointed. I was with a larger group of people and no one was impressed at all. Chicken salad snadwich was good, but I have definitely had better. Bread seemed to be baked fresh but also seemed like there was too much flour used to make it. It lacked taste. I personally prefer to eat at another Italian place in Gurnee off Delany that will remain nameless. The pasta dish with sausage had two little pieces of sausage. If someone orders baked pasta with Italian sausage, there should be more than 2 small pieces. That was the biggest complaint from my group. Overall a cute place, but nothing special at all. Not impressed and not in love, but to each their own.

This place is a hidden gem! I came here for a recommended lunch and came just before 11:30am. We just got there before capacity!! Tina's is located in a strip mall and obviously put the word out about their food. The restaurant was packed with lunch goers. You definitely need to come early if you want a seat and for good reason. Our seat was the last table in the "kitchen". It was a modest circular table that overlooked the restaurant. You can truly appreciate the authentic old school approach of this solo table near the bakery ovens. The oven were not on as most of the stuff is baked early in the morning to fulfill the days foods. There is a modest menu of Italian delights and mouth watering sandwiches. Every table is started off with an endless basket of fresh sliced foccacio bread slices for dipping in the olive oil and Parmesan. I opted for the Melanzane sandwich as it truly reminds me of my grandmothers food. It's a breaded eggplant sandwich with provolone and marinara. Absolutely awesome! The staff is friendly and extremely busy as the place is full just about every day! DO NOT FORGET to get some of the Italian cookies or canolis before you leave!

Tina's is a favorite in our home. My nonna recently moved to Florida, and so when we need food that tastes just like Nonnas, we come here . My son swears by the lasagna, and I can honestly say we've tried everything here. You'll never go hungry and you'll always be satisfied!

Went here this afternoon for an early lunch. Was pleased that I went early as there is only a small seating area and I was able to get a seat easily. Honestly, just about everything on the menu sounded good but since it was cold, I decided on lasagne. Yum, the size was perfect and came with a salad and the bread brought to the table was excellent as well. Based upon Christina S.'s review, I ordered the tiramisu. I am not a fan of tiramisu, however I always think it's because I just haven't had a good one, since I like everything that is in it. Well, now I know that I actually DO like tiramisu as this was just wonderful! Agree with other posters, they need a hostess to handle the tables and the register to help move things along, especially when it is busy.

Good, homemade Italian food in a very nice cafe setting----something you might not think of in Gurnee. Tina actually stopped by our table as my wife an I ate a late lunch to ask how everything was! I had a thick spaghetti noodle with bologneses sauce and cafe made Italian sausage. Very tasty! The wife had a chicken salad which she stated was outstanding. We left with an order of lemon knots to go! Again, a fantastic experience. The staff is clean, orderly, professional and quick. Where as I like "Just Like Italy's" food, Tina's is much more professional and organized.

I just recently discovered this place and wished I'd found it sooner. Growing up in an Italian family and with grandparents right off the boat, I was lucky to experience authentic, homemade Italian food. Tina's food is just like how grandma made it. Fresh and delicious. I had them cater for my daughters wedding shower and everyone raved about it. Only downside is the limited hours. With it being a small family business its understandable but I Would love to go on a weekend night. I highly recommend this excellent, authentic Italian cafe.

Tina's is great Italian food, great atmosphere. It is just like sitting in an Italian home kitchen! The bread is made fresh everyday and all of the sandwiches taste amazing! Very hearty serving of food, it will fill you up quickly. But don't forget to leave room for dessert, the Canolli tastes amazing! Best Italian food I've ever had.

LOVE this place! It's definitely a hidden-little gem. Went there a couple weeks ago while at my boyfriends house. The seating is a bit sparse but you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a seat. I ordered the eggplant parmisianga and it was DELICIOUS! Will definitely be back!

I liked Tina's, I really did, but its sort of becoming a thing. I still go back because the food is to die for and it reminds me of sunday dinner at my grandmas. But after this last trip, I am seriously considering not gong anymore. Similar to Jone S.'s review, it's too crowded and the management of that crowd is lacking. Here's the problem: it is hard to get a table on weekends at any hour and even hard sometimes during the week. I don mind waiting for good food, bit there is no adequate place to wait. You have yo stand by the register and hover over other guests. Additionally, there is no one there to greet you when you walk in, tell you if there is a wait, etc. the last time we went there I stood in the front and waited 20 minutes. I asked for a table by a waitress hurrying by and was told they would be right be back. We waited 15 minutes after that conversation and after not being acknowledged, we left and went to Momcorn. The service there was friendlier and the food just as good. I really hope Tina's can get use to their fame soon and hire a hostess to handle seating or I'm afraid I won't be back.

I'm from NYC and when I moved to Gurnee I looked for authentic Italian food and could not find anything but chain restaurants. I stumbled upon Tina's while making a wrong turn and asked for directions. I was hungry so I decided to stay for lunch. I've never looked again. This is hands down, my favorite restaurant in Chicago. Great food and charming restaurant. Highly Recommended!!!

My husband and I were visiting a cousin who has an office in the same building that Tina's is in, I would have never had known of this place had we not been here. We were traveling, and a good homemade italian meal sounded wonderful. I had the lasagna that was just perfect, and the flavor of the cheeses used were divine. My husband had a sausage sandwich and ate the whole thing. The place was very busy and it was lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Tina came over and chatted and was very sweet. Although the place lacks space, it makes up for good food, and home style charm, I would definitely go back. I loved all the sweets, and just the smells of good food. This really is a hidden gem.

Wow. The food here is amazing. The lasagna is some of the best I have ever tried. The meatballs are surely the best I have ever had. Italian sausage is also very good. The sandwiches are delightful. Even the brownies are exceptional. Tina is more than willing to customize any meal as long as she has a heads up. The breads are soft and fresh. The soup is different than anywhere else I have tried, it is not the type of soup that I like but it is still good. The salad dressing I do not care for. Overall it is a very pleasant place to eat with great food and for these reasons Tinas has earned an A-.

I came here for lunch on a Monday, and there were more than a few people inside. They instantly greeted me, and I asked to be seated outside, since it was such a beautiful day. My waitress was extremely nice, checked on me a few times, and was attentive. I got the veal parmesan, which came with a small salad on the plate. Both were excellent, and I'll be returning here at some point before I leave! The price is very cheap for a sit down restaurant with waitstaff.

What a flop of a place. Yelpers, did someone buy you off on your way out the door? I must have missed my bribe. I am from Milwaukee and a friend from Chicago and I decided to meet in the middle for lunch. We opted to skip all the chains and try out this great little cafe (or so the bribed yelpers claimed). I wouldn't call this place out of the way, but it was not convenient either. It's tucked in the corner of a strip mall that has a large Northside Community Bank on the corner, for your reference, since it's not super easy to spot. We walked in and they were very nice and seated us toward the back. So far so good. They dropped off a regular menu, and one that was literally a handwritten 8.5x11 and then photocopied. Seriously? They don't have a printer? I ordered the Antipasti salad (the server repeated it back to me) and my friend ordered the Low Carb salad. We both had waters. They brought out olive oil (not particularly good quality) and parmesean that looked like you find in the green plastic canister with some pretty average foccacia. While we were chatting, the server came by and said they were out of the Caesar dressing, would balsamic be ok? Yeah sure, whatever. Later they brought me a Caesar salad and I explained I ordered the antipasti salad. The server then explained that she had just come by and asked about the Caesar dressing. How would I know what dressing you use on the antipasti salad? She made no effort to take it back and I am not a picky eater, so I just said fine, I would eat it. Are you sure? Yes, fine. So here's the thing about a Caesar salad....without the Caesar dressing, it's basically lettuce and croutons. You might say, "But Katie, they said they'd put balsamic on it!" and you'd be right, they did say that. They didn't actually do it. Not to mention that this particular Caesar salad didn't come with any Parmesean and only three croutons. Technically it had cooked chicken on it, but at this point I'm eating like a bunny so the plain cooked chicken (not even grilled for a little flavor) with no dressing barely counts. According to my friend, the Low Carb salad was fine, EXCEPT FOR THE HAIR IN IT. Gross. So, since there's a neon sign in the window that says SWEETS! BAKERY! we both wanted some dessert. Perhaps we were too late in the day or something, but the pickings were pretty slim. She opted for a cannoli and I had the tiramisu. The cannoli looked alright and tiramisu was pretty tasty. Instead of being a slice of a larger pan, they are individually made in plastic cups. Smart, actually. All of the staff were pretty nice and cooed over the baby that was with us, except for our server who wanted to do as little as possible and made no effort to remediate her error. Nothing was even taken off the bill and for what we got, $30 was out of line. Maybe they charged us extra to put hairs in our salad.

Their fresh mozzarella is superb, and they have the best Minnestrone soup around. Tina is a sweet old lady if you get a chance to meet her. Come early or late for lunch, as it can be hard to get a table right at noon.

If I was inmate on death row, my last meal would be Tina's cheese lasagna with bolognese and tiramisu! I was so stuffed after eating, but if there was a casserole dish of lasagna in front of me, I probably would have had at least two more pieces. My husband had the bucatini with sausage and he was literally scraping the plate with his bread because it was so delicious. Tina's is the best Italian I have had and it's as authentic as it comes. We had two lunch specials, two desserts and two fountain drinks for only $33! Great bang for your buck. We will definitely be frequenting this place

Great Italian food in an unexpected strip mall setting with Six Flags in the background. The scent of this place is wonderful when you walk in ... a mix of fennel, anise, and basil. As others have noted, there is not a wide baked goods selection but what they have is good and fresh. You can see Tina dusting almond horns while you eat. We came here for lunch and left happy. Tried a pasta special and a sandwich, both were delicious and tasted fresh. Portions are human-sized and human-priced ($7-10) for lunch. These are not chain restaurant-sized portions for gargantuan eaters. If you dread the thought of eating corn dogs and funnel cakes at Six Flags, stop into Tina's to eat some real food beforehand.

Tina's is a nice escape from all of the chain restaurants in the Gurnee/Waukegan/Park City area. I work down the street and every day it's a struggle to find something good for lunch. The menu here includes pastas, salads and sandwiches. So far I've only tried the special bucatini pasta with Italian sausage but I will definitely be back to sample more items.

This place is fabulous! The food was incredible. I ordered the Lasagne and a Cannoli. Best cannoli I have ever had, even tops Mikes in Boston. My wife commented that the food reminded her of her mom's and grandmothers cooking. A great find! Tina came by he table to welcome us and check on the food. A great touch and sign of a great place. We highly recommend this wonderful little cafe!

I had the meatball and sausage plate and thought it couldn't get better (seriously delicious). THEN we decided to get dessert. One of everything please and thank you (we were sharing). Tiramisu, cannolli, and bread pudding, all AMAZING. The long and short: everything is terrific, eat here.

Driven by but never took the chance till today. Amazing food. Meatball & sausage bolognese platter and a cannoli. Service was also top notch. I'll be back.

I cannot explain why I have not submitted a review sooner, since we have been patrons for years. My only defense is that we probably do not fully regard Tina's as a business, but more like a favorite auntie's familiar kitchen, where she serves food that is similar to mom's, about as good, but in a different way good ... as it should be. Food is always top quality, prepared on premises from scratch, wholesome and fresh. As is the case concerning Tina, there is no pretension about it. Since Tina's is a small establishment, a bakeshop cafe, with very limited seating, either plan to arrive at opening (Not 5 minutes after!) or between 1:30 and 2:00 PM, when you can be seated, order and eat at your leisure. You may also observe Tina peel garlic or chop something for the next day, as she simultaneously directs her staff and motions, with pairing knife in hand, them through their daily closing and cleaning routines (always with bleach) without missing a beat. Whatever you select for your meal, leave room for cannoli or cookies to sweeten your departure.

Talk about a hidden gem, geez. Where have you been all my life, Tina? The companion's mom frequently brings home baked goods from Tina's and the occasional lasagna which is darn good, but what a great lunch spot, particularly if you're tired of the various chains in the area. All the baked goods and breads are made in house. And everything is delicious. The 1/2 sandwich and soup combo includes any of the many sandwiches, including the delicious Italian sausage sandwich that I tried. The housemade minestrone was a perfect complement to it. There are lots of veg options for my main squeeze, which puts this place high on the rotation for parental visits. Service is super fast, super friendly, and when we went there were brownie samples at the register. BROWNIE SAMPLES.

Put this on your favorites list! Today was my first meal (take out) from Tina's and I am now a huge fan! The food is fresh, homemade and the portions are amazing! The pumpkin soup is out-of this world!

I have never had a meal I did not love at Tina's. The food is all made fresh everyday. Tina is always there doing the baking. You will not want to pass on this hidden gem.

I've probably been here 5 times now and I've yet to be disappointed. Tina is doing good things here and I'm happy that I have customers nearby that need to be taken to lunch. 4 out of 5 times, I've gotten the cold pumpkin ravioli. I had to be talked into it the 1st time but now, it's a must. The one time I came and it wasn't on special a tear ran down my face. I forget what I had that time but it was also amazing. Everything is fabulous here! Minestrone! Pumpkin Soup! The cookies! Everything. If you're in the area, I highly recommend it.

I've been eating at Tina's for many years, long before it was popular. As others have noted, the food is excellent. However, this is a bake shop, so don't expect elaborate gourmet dishes. It's mostly salads and sandwiches, with two daily pastas (usually lasagna and a sausage/pasta dish) and one daily special (usually sausage of some sort). There are three standard desserts (tiramisu, bread pudding and cannoli) and an assortment of cookies. Tina often makes a special dessert as well. My major complaint (and the reason for 3 stars) is that the restaurant has become too crowded to allow for a well-paced lunch. When we ate there today, the server pulled my plate off the table the minute I was done, and cleared the bread as well despite seeing that my mom was still eating. When I asked her to leave the bread because we weren't done with it, she glanced over her shoulder to the waiting guests...who were just a few feet behind me. There are only about 15 tables in this whole place ,so when people are standing in the cash register area, staring at the tables, it's pretty disconcerting. I'm happy for Tina's success! However, she needs to do something about the lack of space. There is room outside to set up chairs where people could wait if she had a waiting list. We'll probably not go back there, simply because the idea of having people watching us eat and wishing we'd hurry up is so very unappetizing.

My favorite "find" for lunches at work and the price can't be beat. First of all the atmosphere is so welcoming, it feels like you're eating in a long lost Italian grandmother's kitchen :) It's very hard for me to break my rule of always trying something new b/c the chicken salad sandwhich/salad is SO GOOD. I absolutely love their summer salad (mixed greens...strawberries...mangoes) and fresh out of the oven focaccia. The roasted pumpkin soup is also a great (and I think seasonal) choice. Desserts are home made too - so no matter how full you are you must at least take one to-go (tiramisu....mascarpone brownie)

Best Lunch in Gurnee, IL! I've now been to Tina's over a dozen times. I've had her enormous sandwiches, her beautiful, fresh salads, and her incredible hot dishes, including lasagna and pasta with sausage. Clearly, the freshest of ingredients are used, as the food is always delicious and well presented. The portions are quite large, so I've never left hungry. The restaurant is pretty small, so you need to come early for a seat at lunch. I'm hoping the word doesn't get around too much about this gem, as it's always pretty crowded already!

As many have mentioned before me, and quite frankly one of the reasons I stopped in, this is the perfect hidden gem. An Italian ristorante, cafe tucked away with authentic decor; petite tables, pasta boxes, photographs of Tina and family, etc. I indulged in: Organic greens salad with croutons, tomatoes, provolone cheese, and house dressing. (Of course we started with Tina's infamous fresh, homemade bread and grated Parmesan.) Tip: Watch and get to know Tina, she loves food and her guests.

My family and I recently ate at Tina's, and had a great experience! The food is very fresh, with upscale ingredients - not only did what we have look and taste great, but every dish I saw looked wonderful! The soup, even though we got there near closing time, was still fresh and tasty! We will be back again and again. It's clear from our experience that the dishes are made with love and care, and that makes this place SPECIAL! Some notes - the prices are high, but if you are looking for a treat, this is it... if you can afford to pay around $10 - $15 a plate, it's worth it. Another "drawback" is they are only open for lunch on the week days (past 3:00 CT they're closed). Lastly, they have a PATIO for outside dining - this seems to be a rarity in Gurnee... it's a lovely little outside area, reminds me of France!

Gets 4 stars because it's a bit pricey, but it is all made fresh and very delicious. Tina is very friendly and is there all the time, you don't always see that from an owner. The wait staff is very nice and on top of things. It is a small area so seating is limited, from 11:30-12:30 during the week, it's hard to get a table right away. There is some patio seating when the weather is nice, which is always very enjoyable. I've never had a bad dish here. The bolognese sauce is amazing. I usually get the chicken salad sandwich. I am not a big chicken salad fan, but I do love Tina's.

A great place to eat in Gurnee, which is full of chain restaurants that are nothing special. Absolutely delicious food - the eggplant parmesan is the best that I've ever had and their hot vegetable sandwich (I can't remember what it's called) was outstanding as well. Great pesto. The service is always great. It's a cute little restaurant and every time I've been, I've seen Tina. I think it's always nice to see the owner talking to the customers. Their cannolis and tiramisu is absolutely outstanding!!! I would recommend this place to everyone.

Yummmm. It seemed like there were only chains out here for lunch options, but thanks to Yelp, I found this delicious non-chain. It's sit down but not very large and I'm guessing you can get stuff to go and bakery items. You pay at the register on your way out. It did not disappoint. I wish I could remember the name of the sandwich I ordered.. but it had salami and capicola and pesto? Very good. Attentive but not too attentive service, which was just right. I'll definitely come back here.

This quaint cafe is the perfect place to meet a friend for lunch or just dessert and coffee. In the morning, it is also a nice and quiet place to grab a cup of coffee and to do some work on your laptop. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, the homemade food is really delicious, and the atmosphere is comforting. The shelves are decorated with family photos, and the tablecloths are crocheted by Tina's mother, which gives the cafe a home-like feeling. They offer a homemade minestrone plus a soup special everyday. The minestrone is the best I've ever had. If I could get my hands on that recipe, I would make vats of it and eat it everyday. I'm usually get the 1/2 sandwich and bowl of soup combo (because I cannot come here without getting Tina's minestrone). There is also a list of entree specials, which changes everyday as well. The regular menu offers tasty sandwiches, pasta dishes and salads, which are all made from scratch.... even the bread! It is obvious that Tina and her staff are passionate about food and friendly service. They also cater!

This was my first time but it won't be my last. I got there closer to 2 so no crowds. I was seated quickly and served quickly. I had the eggplant parm sandwich with house salad. Delicious and plenty of food. Everything was fresh. People were friendly. Deserts looked awesome.

Simply Good Food. The food is fresh, delicious, seasonal, and simple. They make their own bread there daily and it shows. The bread is flaky, soft, buttery, and just a little bit spongy. And it complimented the olive oil and parmesan dip that they serve on the side. The flavors remind me of a great home cooked meal. It's like the house you never want to leave because you know you'll be fed well. The staff was kind and attentive and I loved the charm of the place + the cookies at the counter were delicious. Good portions and reasonable pricing. Tina's is the way Italian food should taste.

Stopped in here for lunch after a visit to nearby Kroll's farm. Pleasantly surprised with the food! I had a chicken sandwich with pesto that was out of this world, along with terrific minestrone soup. Homemade breads and potato chips were a hit. Desserts were fantastic. We were a group of 5 and I was concerned because many reviewers mentioned that this is a rather small spot, however we were seated quickly even though we arrived right in the middle of the lunch rush on a Saturday. Everything tasted very fresh and the service was friendly. Tina's is definitely worth a stop if you are nearby!

Had lunch here on Friday and everything was delicious. It was hard not to fill up on the bread that they put on the table with the olive oil and cheese....awesome! I could have just eaten that. The salad I ordered had spinach, pears, walnuts, Gorgonzola with a vinaigrette dressing....awesome! I was kind of in a hurry because I had to get back to work, didn't have time for dessert- but it's def on my list for next time. I wish the place was bigger! It was super busy....

It's a blessing to have Tina's in Gurnee. I have lived in Gurnee for 12 years and until only about 2 years ago first tried Tina's. Man have I missed out for all the other years. Tina's food is always fresh and such a treat every time we go there. I are so tired of the chains and the other private owned places just don't cut it. I could eat at Tina's every day. I keep telling my wife that I wish Tina was my mom because I would be eating well all the time. If you have not tried Tina's you are missing out. I will say that its only open for until lunch and can get crowded but worth going and the short wait if you its crowded. Its about 11.00 per person. Not cheap but also not bad for how fresh everything is.

I had to meet some friends for lunch in Gurnee over the weekend, and we didn't want to go to a chain restaurant. Tina's Italian Bake Shop came up on our Yelp search, so we decided to check it out. The restaurant was really easy to find, the eating area was spacious, the service was friendly, the whole place just smelled good, and the sandwiches were excellent. I had the Panini di Manzo (or something to that effect), which was essentially Italian beef. The sandwich was huge - I only ate half of it for lunch when it was hot, and I had the other half later served cold. It was excellent both times around - the bread was fresh, they didn't skimp on the meat, and the seasoning was very good. The chips were blah. Also, my friends and I split two desserts - cannoli and tiramisu - which were pretty good. Overall, this place is a great alternative to the Gurnee Mills dining scene if you happen to find yourself in the Gurnee area.

Taste: 3 Value: 3 Service: 3 I came here for lunch with a friend. We both ordered one of the today's specials: chicken salad sandwich with mango salad ($10). The mango salad was okay, although it also had strawberries and cheese with the greens. The chicken salad sandwich was also so-so; the bread was slightly toasted and actually a bit oily, but it had tomatoes. The bread we were given after being seated was also very subpar. Overall, not too impressed.

Here's the real deal: there is a dearth of even decent restaurants north of half day road (Highwood excepted). In fact, you can say there are no good restaurants north of 22 except..... Tina's Bake Shop. Fresh fresh fresh ingredients - did I say fresh? I have eaten here more than fifty times and have never had a bad meal. Her egg salad is so good it doesn't need bread. Her bread is to die for, her salads are....fresh, fresh, fresh. The place is clean as a whistle, the waitresses have worked there for years (Tina must be doing something right), and the pastries, though limited (although I suspect that has a lot to do with keeping quality up) are heaven in a delicate pastry. All in all, simply the best place for lunch I've ever been to, and I lived in Chicago's loop for twenty years. Ain't nothing like it. Try it once and you'll be back.

Delicious food and cozy environment! I don't know how I missed this place for 5 years, but now that I've been there I will definitely be back! I am a picky eater, so usually when I eat out there are only a couple things to choose from. But everything on the menu here looked great, so it was really difficult to choose (I went with the breaded eggplant sandwich).

Since growing up in an Italian family, I love homemade Italian food. When I walked into Tina's It felt like home. I knew it was good as soon as I smelled the spaghetti sauce. The food is excellent, which is why it is so packed. I highly recommend this place, and wish they were open for dinner.

Wow! This place is out of sight fantastic! I've been here a few times now and am always impressed. Everything is home made. Home made pasta, soups, ravioli, cookies and desserts. Their home made pastas are incredible. Service is outstanding. They always have really good fresh greens in their salads. If the pumpkin ravioli is on the menu you HAVE to get it! One of the best constructed dishes I have ever had in my life. It's a cold light dish though FYI. I love that they always serve fresh breads with oil and pram to start the meal. Don't leave without a few cookies! They rock!

I've heard a lot about this restaurant particularly in the past 2 weeks (all good), and had to try it out. You'd drive right past it if you didn't know it was there, but the goodness is right behind a tiny sign in the plaza on the southeast corner of Washington & 21 in Gurnee. It is family owned, and Tina herself works in the kitchen and behind the counter daily. It is only open for breakfast and lunch and is closed on Sundays, so plan your visit accordingly. The restaurant is small and cozy, kind of like you're having lunch in someone's kitchen. I loved it! Ten feet from the front door you are greeted with the scent of fresh baked goods and Italian goodness. If you aren't hungry when you walk in, you will be by the time you sit down. The menu has plenty of variety - salads, soups, sandwiches, and Italian pasta favorites like spaghetti & meatballs and lasagna. And you won't miss the dessert collection on the way in - plenty of fresh baked cookies, pastries, and tiramisu, which all look amazing. Fresh bread with olive oil and parmesan waits at the table for you, so I started with that (perfect mushy Italian bread!) and a cup of the amazing cream of asparagus soup. I chose a salad with grilled pears, gorgonzola cheese, walnuts, mixed greens, and a light vinegarette dressing as the main course. To finish things off I had a rolled cinnamon pasty around cream cheese filling and it was honestly one of the tastiest desserts I have ever had anywhere. All this with a Diet Coke and I left stuffed for only $16. Perfecto!

One of my favorite little family owned italian bistro. Delicious grilled vegetable sandwich on fresh bread and salad with the best berry vinaigrette with mango and spring mix, yum! Very great service. They treat you well and I have been there several times and it's always excellent. Clean and neat. I've brought friends there and they always fall in love and want to return. It's one of those places you take friends visiting the area. it's amazing! And prices are very reasonable. It is a lunch place, so they close usually around 3-3:30. Just a heads up! Enjoy!!

Went for lunch after a long hiatus (yay, strategically placed construction jam that only allows me to drive north at lunchtime!) and it was a perfect as ever. Seriously amazing, fresh, balanced, delicious food. Love, love, love this place.

I absolutely love this place! The staff is super friendly. Tina herself is a sweetheart and cooks all of the food herself in the morning so everything is always fresh. I have had tried almost everything on the menu and have loved it all. It's a little on the pricey side but totally worth it.

What a cute little gem in a strip mall. When we went here to grab a bite at lunch time, this place was packed! We had to wait a few minutes for a table but it was well worth the wait. Everyone I was with had the same thing, chicken salad sandwich with summer fruit salad, Gorgonzola cheese and greens. We were here about a week ago and I was surprised to see summer fruit on still the menu. The fruit consisted of a berry mix. My only complaint was the bread was a tad bit oily for me. The sandwich was very rich and the dressing was sweet and tangy. We also all shared a cannoli and that was very good too! There was ample amount of sweet ricotta cheese and pistachios! I can't wait to try more options on the menu. It's reasonably priced and you will find a great variety of Italian deli items.

This is THE MOST AUTHENTIC AND VERY BEST ITALIAN FOOD ANYONE COULD EVER WISH!!!!! Tina is an amazing woman and cooks all her food fresh every morning. the food is fresh, and mouth watering. EVERY time I have been there, I am so happy with the food, the service, and it feels like you're being pampered at home by your Italian Mama that you've always wanted. Tina comes around and says hello to everyone! She loves people and loves her family and loves the restaurant she has created. Just a wonderful place to go!

My favorite thing to do here is enjoy expresso with one of the delicious baked goods. Everything there tastes good and the ambience is nice. The lunch is a less delightful experience, because the times I have gone, the salad has been a) swimming in dressing and b) plated right next to the hot food and as a result wilted. If you can get it unwilted and properly dressed, the salad with pears is really good. I'm giving 4 stars in spite of the downsides because the food is so good.

This is truly one of the very best places to eat. Not only in Gurnee, but in the whole Chicagoland area. Food is delicious, authentic, and the staff is so friendly. This happens to be my wife's favorite restaurant now. It's incredible!

This is one of the few restaurants in Gurnee that is not a chain and I say yay to that! This is my favorite place to go for lunch with friends. Everyone always enjoys the food and the atmosphere is friendly. I say, skip the chains and eat some real, home-cooked food!

I can't tell you how amazing this place is. First, there's Tina. If you ever wondered what Sicily is like, just ask her. She's just about the most animated restaurant owner I've ever seen and darts between the kitchen, register and tables with lightning fast speed. She loves the place, her staff and the food - nothing could be more obvious. Now, to the food - it's delicious. I've eaten a lot of Italian food in my life (married into it), and nothing comes close to Tina. The Italian beef sandwiches are ridiculous. For the first time in my life that I've ever eaten an Italian beef sandwich, I can taste every single aspect of the sandwich. Of course there's the meat, but the au jous, provolone, bread and peppers all played a subtle, supporting aspect. Sound like a movie? Seemed like one at the time. I only wish the place was bigger. Tina's is always packed for lunch - maybe one day she'll have more space than she knows what to do with.

  • Sara P.

Tina's is the perfect place to meet for lunch! It always has a great daily menu, and a menu of favorites. The sandwiches are perfect, full of fresh ingredients and flavor and the soups are usually to die for. Make sure you save room for dessert, I love the Double Chocolate Marscapone Brownies!!!!! Tina takes real pride in her business, she takes the time to stop by your table and make sure that you're enjoying yourself. A lot of the people who go there are regulars and it can get a bit crowded at lunch. Tina also offers Italian language classes there some evenings and recently started teaching baking classes as well. Its pure perfection hidden in a strip mall.

Went in there expecting to see a variety of baked goods like the itallian bakery by my parent's place up in Wisconsin...but saw little to choose from. Just a handful of cookies, canolies, and desert cups. What they had was good, but dont expect a lot of baked goods.

Met a friend halfway between Schaumburg and Milwaukee in Gurnee and wanted to goto a non-chain restaurant...this was suggested to me. It was AWESOME!! Immediately saw the lovely outdoor cafe tables outside, then walked in and loved inside as well. When the smell of fresh baked bread hit me, my tummy screamed for food! We sat ourselves and they brought us fresh warm italian bread with olive oil and parmesan. Both my friend and I ordered from the daily specials...she ordered a baked mostoccolli with sausage and a little side salad, I had the chicken salad with roasted pairs, fresh tomatoes and gorgonzola cheese. We swapped plates back and forth across the table and totally enjoyed the freshness and flavorfulness of each dish. Excellent, fresh, beautiful, tasty Italian food. Tina came over to see how we liked it....so good! Could not resist trying a cannoli and tiramisu for dessert. They did not disappoint. The Cannolli filling was very lite and creamy, and the tiramisu was perfect! We've decided that meeting in Gurnee at Tina's is going to become a regular lunch date for us. :-)

Tina's Bake Shop is one of the best restaurants in Lake County. The food is always fresh, hot and awesome. the service is great too. You can tell that Tina takes pride in her food. My favorite is the Bandiera Italian sandwich. I also love the soup. Today's was cream of asparagus. The tiramisu is to die for. It's better than anything in Italy. It's Tina's mom's recipe and you can tell. The bread is so fresh and I love that there is cheese and olive oil on the table waiting for you. This is our Saturday lunch spot many days out of the year.

I really like Tina' Italian Bake Shop and have been there on several occasions, but I have to say that I think it's somewhat overpriced for simple sandwiches and salads. I love her red sauce, and have liked everything I've had there from a light pasta dish to simple sandwiches. The bread pudding is FANTASTIC. My sister and I decided that instead of going there for lunch from now on we are going there for dessert and coffee instead. I will be back for sure, but again I do feel that it is somewhat pricey.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
