Let me start by saying that the food is good and the specialty latte drink is fantastic. I'm giving 4 stars because I've had better food elsewhere. As much as I'd like to I can't give every place 5 stars. I think this is my third time here so I do enjoy the place. It's always packed here so obviously lots of other people enjoy it, too.

Something's Brewing is a nice little local business with two locations in Grayslake. Both offer good coffee and food, in a pleasant, and relaxed atmosphere. Some reviewers comment about slow service, but everything is made fresh to order, so of course it will take a little longer. If you order ahead you can reduce your wait time. A coworker and I picked-up lunch from the downtown location today. I had 1/2 a sandwich and soup for just under $7 - not a bad price. I had the chicken salad on honey oat bread, with lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber slices. It was a very good sandwich. It comes with a choice of sides. Usually, I order the pasta salad which is very good. Today, I tried the potato salad which was decent; but I prefer the pasta salad. For my soup, I ordered Italian wedding. It was excellent! Keep up the good work!

So I didn't really get a full experience here, really I stopped by to pick up a drink and a snack before heading out on my way, but this place really seemed to be a place I could come back to more often. They have a pretty extensive menu that includes drinks (coffee, tea, italian soda, etc.), baked goods, sandwiches, and other food. I grabbed a chai tea latte and the spinach dip with bagel chips. The chai tea latte I got over ice (only the 16 oz and 20 oz sizes can come over ice) and it was delicious. Flavorful, creamy, and you could see the spices settling on the bottom. Mmmmm spices. The bagel chips appeared to be home made and it was a pretty decent portion that came with the spinach dip. They sell a number of other items throughout the store including some candies and baked goods. It was not too busy when I went and there were plenty of tables. Service was friendly & fast, just the way I like it :D.

Quaint coffee shop that perfectly suits the small-town feel of downtown Grayslake. There is another location near CLC but this one by far has more character. The baristas are very calm and helpful, countless menu items to choose from, including wraps, sandwiches and breakfast at all hours of the day. The coffee is fantastic, almond milk and soy milk are available too. The outdoor seating is very cozy, right around lunch time the sunlight trickles through the maple trees that overhang the sidewalk. Street traffic rolls by slowly but it isn't distracting. Perfect location, great food/coffee and people!

Cute little coffee shop in cute little down town grays lake :) The chococonut latte was very tasty. Plenty of seating available. I can't speak for the food as I didn't try it but the food menu is as big or bigger than the coffee selection. They also have plenty of muffins, cookies, rice krispie treats, and chocolates, to choose from.

If you take anything away from this, please note this. This review is for the DOWNTOWN location, not the one near CLC's campus. Anyway, onward. Something's Brewing has a great menu, a good amount of cute things to shop for while your coffee is being made, and some great sweets to take with you. Should be a no-fail, right? Well, where Something's Brewing Downtown fails, and has failed for years, is service. Not only are they much slower than the one on Washington, they're much more apathetic and unfriendly. As I mentioned in a previous coffee house review...this is what drives people away, and not in. This annoys me much more here than it did with Mischief's Brewing for a few reasons. The first is that it's a complaint many people have and that they've had it for years. So is it just that no one from SB reads Yelp reviews to find out where there's room for improvement? Anyway...if you have the time, go ahead and drive over to the Washington St. location. Your food will be prepared more quickly, and someone might actually smile at you.

Great Coffee, Great, Great Food. I will say that I visit this place numerous times every week, so while they do need improvement on some things, they are close to my house and good, and they have never done anything to stop me from going back. Where this establishment falls short for me is in the staff, the deserts and some of the patrons. and now for my Rant: At certain times of the day it may as well be a high school cafeteria with the local riff-raff coming in making a mess of the place or, "like, oh my GAWD do you know who so-and-so is dating now" chicks having their way too loud and way too meaningless conversations. I wanted to stab chicks like this in high school, now I just want them to sit their abercombie covered tushes down at the Starbucks and leave my local coffee shop unadulterated. They are loud, they are obnoxious, and they come in as if they run the place which all would be fine if they kept to themselves a little more and were not so disrespectful to the staff, the other patrons and just the place in general. College kids and young professionals, or others be warned if you are looking for a place to study or get some work done on your laptop. My recommendation: go before school lets out. The staff are young kids for the most part and it seems to me that wether or not you will feel welcome or get good service is simply a hit or miss based mostly on whatever mood they are in. Sometimes I have literally felt about as welcome as a turd in a swimming pool and sometimes I felt like I was their most favored patron. I found a hair in my food one time, which was gross, but I have eaten there so many times, I guess I felt like it was bound to happen sooner or later. Then again, it was gross. Period. I think this place will cover anything in Chocolate, but be warned, it is mediocre semi-sweet milk chocolate and nothing to rave about. If you are going to make your cake pops look more appetizing than Starbucks, they have to also BE more appetizing. All that being said, I would rather support a local establishment than a Starbucks and the free wifi and good coffee keeps me going back to spite the other setbacks. If you visit, try their Pumpkin Spice Latte and South of the border wrap. My two favs.

First time I've visited and I was more than impressed! Great service, friendly and helpful with all my questions! I had a latte which was delicious and my husband had a white chocolate mocha which was also amazing. They made my son a chocolate milk and then we had cookies and muffins. Everything was exceptional quality. We don't go out often, so when we do it's really a treat for us. This place exceeded our expectations- and it was only a quick stop for coffee! We will be back as this place has many options I'm excited to try! Make sure you stop in if you're downtown Grayslake, they have something for everyone.
(5)Jim S.
Great place to go for coffee and a bagel, a quick dessert or for lunch. Always fresh food and friendly service. Lots of seating inside. Give this place a try, you won't be sorry! Two locations. My wife and I usually walk to the downtown Grayslake location.
(5)Cheryl V.
Great place for coffee great atmosphere great service it was a wonderful morning. I would highly recommend the dark roast.
(5)Chris D.
I liked this place. I was having my car fixed so I stopped in here for a bite to eat. Never even knew it was there, but as I strolled downtown, it looked nice. Place was about empty when I walked in, by the time I left, the lunch crowd was in cuz every table was filled. Not sure why the people who ordered after me got served first, but not biggie as I was in no hurry. The Italian sandwich half size was perfect for lunch. They give you several choices of sides, I took the bagel chips and dip...amazing! I did not test anything in the way of sweets or anything, but they sure looked good.
(4)dilbert z.
I vist this place two or three times a week for morning coffee on my way to the office. Better coffee than Starbucks, for sure and quite a bit less in price. Service can be pretty quick, or it can be pretty slow depending on who's behind the counter that morning. If somebody is ordering a "candy" coffee thing, be prepared to stand for 5 minutes while it's being made. I think there's only two people working there mornings, so it can back up. The pastries and morning "sweets" are just too big in portion. Huge muffins, huge biscuits, huge everything. If you intend to munch in the car on these things, forget it. Should cut the size of those rolls/muffins in half and they'd sell 4 times as many. Also, be aware that the baked goods can sometimes sit there in the case for a day, or two or what might seem a week. I got a rock hard muffin one time, and just about called it quits for this place. Not the charm of the prior owner (Grinders), but decent coffee about 40 cents cheaper than 'Bucks.
(3)Misha P.
this place is not that great. their food is ok and the coffe is ok, but thats it their just ok. i wish they had more experienced ppl behind the counter. the kids dont take their job series and in the morning it takes for ever to get ur coffee. the owner lady is not very friendly and never smiles. their hummus is good thats about it. i dont recomend it. i been going there because i dont have another choice but as soon as i can drive again i wont have to go back there again.

I love the concept and menu ideas at Somethings Brewing. It is one of the few restaurants in the area that offers healthy options and actual vegetables in their sandwiches. It veers from the usually Grayslake establishment that only offers pizza or anything that can be fried. That said, a kids menu would be great. My 2-year old loves the spinach dip, but doesn't have chompers enough to tackle the grilled cheese - we've tried. And although the teenagers that run the restaurant are helpful and kind, it might be nice to see an owner every once in a while. Prices are high and portions are huge. Might be better to lessen the portions and lower the prices a tad. There might be more of a profit margin as well. I pretty much order the same lebretti everytime and always ask for no onions... which of course always comes donned with a handful of onions. And since prices are manually entered, I am often charged wrong. The most frustrating thing about the restaurant is the ingredients. I always go in hoping for fresh bread. Usually it is a few days old and you can tell by the dryness and the way it breaks apart and all of your sandwich insides fall all over. But, when it is fresh it is REALLY good. I have heard the same can be said for their bakery items. I think if there was more owner involvement this place could be really great.

Atmosphere is adorable and cozy, the coffee is hot and good, and the sweets are too die for. What else can you ask for in a coffee shop?!
(5)Rebecca F.
Service is friendly and fast. There are SO many different items to choose from. The salads are delicious. The baked goods, especially the cookies, are also very good. The atmosphere is clean and pleasant. There are walls of cute gifts available for all kinds of occasions. Overall, a great place to go for breakfast, lunch, or dessert.
(5)Heath K.
Always great coffee. They're carrying Hansa beans from Libertyville now! I like the service and atmosphere at this location better than the one at CLC.
(5)Melanie R.
Had a hot mocha - it was "OK". Made the mistake of getting a muffin because I was a bit hungry. Ordered a banana chocolate chip one. It was honestly the worst muffin I've ever had in my life. It wasn't made from real ingredients, that's for sure. There was nothing even remotely banana in it except for a teeny bit of banana flavoring. It was also hard and dry. Like eating chemical-laden cardboard. I took a couple of bites and threw the rest out. Rock music (which I normally like) was blaring from a stereo speaker instead of playing softly in the background. I was looking for a relaxing place to read, but couldn't concentrate with the blaring music. Lastly, it'd be nice if this place had some comfy chairs to relax in. There's only some tables and hard chairs.
(2)David G.
It's hit or miss. I like the location and the building (though I preferred the original location a couple of blocks away), and I was a fan of Grinder's, which this business replaced. The coffee, pastries and sandwiches are usually very good, and it's nice to see semi-regulars come in. The service is not always what it ought to be, though, and that is my central complaint about SB. Standing in line for ten or fifteen minutes for a cup of coffee is simply unacceptable. And for God's sake, who chooses the radio station? "Hip-hop" influenced pop crap and "Country" (though not really)? No thanks; I'll go elsewhere to drink my coffee.
(3)C H.
Cute place and great coffee. I wasn't expecting an extensive food menu, so next time I'll have to try a whole meal here!
(4)Caroline P.
Cute hometown coffee shop. Great coffee drinks. I'm gluten free, so I missed out on all the pastries. It would be cool if they carried some gluten free items!
(4)Esteen M.
I wanted to like this place, I really did! I met a friend here for lunch on a saturday afternoon. The food wasn't great, and it was extremely expensive for a cafe. The guy behind the counter seemed less then thrilled to answer my questions about the very vague menu selection. I don't think i'll return.
(2)Bob Z.
Great local establishment that makes you feel like you are in Mayberry. But the coffee tastes better. It's not a Starbucks and neither are the prices. This is a Grayslake establishment.
(4)Renato P.
So far, I like what I see of this place, and I don't even drink coffee! I went here for lunch with the GF and really liked it there. The sandwich selection is pretty good, all different meats and breads. I ordered a beef sandwich, very good and the potato salad, good. The chili was a bit too busy in my humble opinion, too many unnecessary veggies in it, but I'm very much a chili minimalist, still good. The fresh made canolli was great, really enjoyed that one. You gotta love little independent places like this in a world of Subway and Starbucks.
(4)Sara M.
I love this place! I have breakfast or lunch here often, and I've never had a bad meal. The coffee is great, the wi-fi is reliable, and the sandwiches are fresh, unique, and delicious. Portions are big, too, so I almost always bring home leftovers. I definitely recommend it!
(5)Kristin J.
The coffee and food is just ok. The service can be horrible. One day I had an older woman in front of me in line who wanted a "regular coffee". The woman behind the counter was thoroughly annoyed and gave her a dark roast. The older woman ended up watering down her coffee and was very unhappy. After witnessing this I have not been back. I regret not saying something at the time, but the girl behind the counter was so rude. I was never happy with the service and this was the last straw. Unfortunately since the new ownership the courtesy and charm are gone.
(1)Scott O.
Like this place; will have to come back again. Coffee is good and you get one free refill. Had the French Melt Croissant: delicious! The menu is large; mostly various kinds of sandwiches & wraps but also salads and some breakfast items. Prices are reasonable. Great ambiance! As far removed from a chain coffee place as you can get.
(4)Van-Emmanuel W.
