My office calls this place the "estrogen hut" given that it is always packed with women. The girls in the office love this place. Nothing pops out about their food. Everything is extremely bland to me but I guess I am spoiled by flavorful cooking given my Asian heritage. My nickname for this place is the little house of mediocrity.

Great cafe! Huge menu of lunch fare including freshly made sandwiches, wraps, salads and more, and really delicious looking baked goods. The usual selection of cafe beverages: coffees, teas, Italian sodas. Very reasonable prices. Absolutely will be back.
(5)Deena R.
In a hurry? don't go here. Looking for a leisurely way to have a coffee and catch up with an old friend, or a casual first date? This would be a great place for such things. I love supporting small business, so I'll be back. My drink wasn't very hot - it was warmed, but I expected scalding at first. Guess I'm just used to ordering a hot drink that needs to rest for 10 minutes before it's palatable.

This location has been open about 6 months now. I normally stop by in the early morning for coffee, and then off to the races. Coffee is OK. Like any other place that's centered on the "starbucks" principle. Tons of pastries, etc. but not one single donut to be found. The place that was here before Something's Brewing knew much better what the locals wanted. The muffins, brownies, etc. offered now are huge. Too huge. They could easily cut the size of the muffins in half, and maybe they'd start selling some. Many of the goods behind the glass look like they've been sitting there awhile. Service can be very slow as the young college types that work here don't seem real motivated. If you have someone ordering one of those stupid "candy" coffees, you can stand for minutes before getting service. Or more. I've seen people walk out after tiring of the wait. Really big menu. I can't imagine anyone getting a sandwich or lunch order very quickly. Nothing special about this place. I think the prior coffee shop was much better, but it also suffered from "slow" service.
(2)Alyssa R.
I love something's brewing, don't get me wrong, but the reason i give it only 3 stars is because their prices are too high for my taste. I can get cheaper pastries at Starbucks. Also, the wait staff is mostly teenagers fresh into the working world so they are more interested in talking to each other than customers. Lastly, the chai latte I got was mostly milk with a hint of chai powder. I actually went back up and asked for more powder, which they gave me free of charge. I recommend it, but only if you don't mind the price or the young staff.

Well this used to be my favorite cafe until I ventured outside of the north suburb boundaries and into the city. For Gurnee/Grayslake, it's the best you'll find, hence why I gave it 4 stars. They have great Italian sodas, coffee and their pastries, especially the toffee & turtles, are TAAAASTY! I love their Make-Your-Own sandwiches because I would add everything, condiments, vegetables and meats possible. I definitely get my moneys worth. They also have a nice side gift shop to purchase candies, mugs, Beanie Babies and more. I took a star away for not having Wi-Fi when now-a-days it's almost a necessity.

Good coffee and espresso drinks. Great food, huge menu, everything is made fresh when you order. Must try: the homemade bagel chips and spinach dip.
(5)Brandy M.
Candy is awesome. So is the spinach dip with bagel chips. Sandwiches are no more than average. Not a fan of the pastries.
(3)Susan B.
Definitely the best food in Lake County. I moved to Chicago about 3 years ago and I still dream about the Bagel Chips and Spinach dip- every time I'm in Lake County I try to make it out to Grayslake for some Brew Food. So nums! Also, the muffins are huuuuuge and if it's the season, you must try a caramel apple cider! :)
(5)Jason D.
They've been around a while, but it still looks like a coffee shop set up in a strip mall. Never tried baked goods, but I hear they're good. Everytime I go, I want it to finally be good, but I can't get over the mediochre atmosphere and poorly made lunch items,. Service also not so friendly. Still lookin for a nice Grayslake coffee shop to sit for a while in.

I was very disappointed with the sandwiches and muffin I recently had at this restaurant. They were so dry that without a drink they surely would have been lodged in my throat. For such a wide, mouth watering menu, the actual food was substandard. The place itself, however, is charming and even sells the candy "saucers" I used to love when I was young. Stick with the coffee and chocolates here.
(2)Dave V.
Nothing special. I have had the sandwiches which are decent but far from great. The coffee is far from swill but i have had better, though i would get it here if needed. The prices were about what you'd expect The staff i have seen in different aspects. I have seen them act attentively and nice and really show customer service, but i have also seen them act flat out rude and uncalled for towards customers. Decent menu of drinks
(3)Paul E.
We have stopped here many times and the food and the service varies depending on who you get, there are one or two good ones still working there but the rest can be best described as disinterested. The owner, while I never seen her be rude to a customer, can be quite rude to her staff in front of the customers. The baked goods are OK.
(2)Mariem A.
Love their salads, the muffins need a little work they seem to taste like cake. Love their selection of awesome coffees. All in all worth it
(4)Jenna T.
I really like stopping into this place! It's a nice break from the trendy hustle and bustle of starbucks and they offer so much more to eat! Have some great soups, sandwiches, and have some yummy sweet treats too!! Definitely worth paying a visit.
(4)Julie A.
I prefer the Something's Brewing downtown Grayslake. I only come to the Washington Street location if I have to. The service is too slow & they make my sandwich wrong every time. The downtown location gets 5 stars...same owner, same menu - world of difference. Even the staff is friendlier downtown...will go out of my way from now on. Signed, Tired of waiting
(2)Noordin A.
This place use to good Just had a sandwich, I coulda made a better one at home. They went cheap on everything even their sweets. I would only come for bagel chips & dip oh btw they went cheap on that too. They hardly give any bagel chips with sandwich. It sucked.
(1)Karl M.
Nice little cafe and sandwich shop, though the service is sketchy. No greeting when I walked into the empty store. No table service. No eye-contact when I was ordering. Mumbling and uninformative about their offerings. Lot's of various useless gifts and trinkets litter the walls and shelves. Big menu with a lot of choices but hard to read and not very clear. Spacious seating area. Peaceful. Quaint.
(3)Sarah K.
Love everything i have tried on their huge menu, always quiet, friendly staff always willing to give you recommendations.
(4)James T.
Somethng's Brewing is a great place to sit and relax or to meet meet for social or business chats. I've had a few meetings here and this location is bigger with plenty of room for everyone. Food is good and the plethora of treats offers something for everyone!
(5)Meredith D.
Maybe it's because I grew up in Grayslake and have fond memories of something brewing but I love this place. Both locations are great. Although I have not lived in Grayslake since I moved away from college (9 years ago) I always go to something's brewing when I am home visiting. We even recommended it to guests coming in from out of town for our wedding. People went and loved it. It's a great local coffee shop with good food and good atmosphere.
(5)Jenn B.
DELICIOUS foods and candies! Quaint and definitely not the stereotyped coffee shops.
(5)Trey J.
My wife and I have yet to try something we didn't like. Great for a simple night out. Everything is made fresh!
(5)Valerie S.
Love both locations of Something's Brewing! There is another one downtown Grayslake. Both locations have a very cozy, hometown feel. The sandwiches and baked goods are quite delicious and priced reasonably. Love the candy and funky line of greeting cards.
(5)Chris E.
Great sandwiches and prices, love this place! Great date night with the wife! I suggest you all try it....
(5)Nicole B.
Love their Carmel macchiato and dark chocolate toffee with sea salt. While their prices are a little on the higher side it's a nice change from dunkin and Starbucks. The staff is nice and the place is kept clean.
(4)Michael C.
The food is well made and they have a nice selection, but be prepared to smell like hot grease for the rest of the day if you eat in.
(3)Kim B.
This is probably the best lunch option in the area for all the College of Lake County staff and students. There's a small location on the CLC campus but they only serve ready-made salads and sandwiches. This location has a large breakfast and lunch menu with many more tasty options. I couldn't decide between a burger and a sandwich so I opted for the best of both worlds: a patty melt. For $1 extra, I upgraded my side dish to a soup. My patty melt was pretty good (the meat was a little too well done for my taste) and I was given the wrong soup (Greek chicken and rice instead of cream of mushroom). Despite the errors, I have to admit I enjoyed lunch here 10 times more than I would have if I ate in the college cafeteria.
(3)Daniel H.
Did not enjoy this place at all. Way over priced, and it is like a worse version of Starbucks. Not sure how this place keeps going. Expensive as well.
(1)Marielle S.
THIS is the Something's Brewing you should go to. Granted, it is the more crowded of the two locations in Grayslake, but it's for good reason. The staff is friendlier and the service is overall quicker here. The food is great and there's enough selection to keep you coming back. The sides are as good as the sandwiches they come with and the homemade peanut butter is amazing. There's more merchandise if you're a shopper, and more seating if you're not just running in and out. I started coming here years ago when I had classes at CLC and I continue to stop in when I'm in town. It's nice for a quiet lunch with friends, a solo stop while you're working on something, or just a quick trip for a caffeine fix. It is a little pricey, but I think you'll find it well worth it. A word to the wise: Skip the downtown location and stay at the Washington Street one. You'll thank me later. :) Oh yeah, and try the club wrap. It's my absolute favorite.
(4)Derek W.
Great coffee and the breakfast is amazing! This is our breakfast spot on Sunday morning and we love trying the different caffeinated drinks. Very nice inside and the breakfast quesadilla is a MUST! :) Cannot wait to try their deli subs. The place is a must for locals in the area!
(5)Linda B.
Slow service, stale coffee, day old (or maybe two day old?) baked goods. I will never understand how this place stays in business.
(1)Ed F.
Grabbed the menu on-line, and phoned-in an order. The food was good, but nothing special, and a little on the pricey-side. The staff was very nice and helpful. The pastries/sweets looked very good, but didn't try anything. Looks like a nice place to hang out with a few friends, enjoy some coffee, and maybe grab a bite. For that, I'd give the place 4 stars. If you're looking for a place to grab a quick sandwich on the run, I think you can do better.
(3)Daniel M.
Across from College of Lake County in a little shopping mall seems to scare away customers. But, there isn't anything to fear. I came here a few times before and it was good. I always get the peanut butter cup muffin covered in chocolate and peanut butter for $2.49. It's huge. Let me start off by saying that the $2.49 is definitely the best price for something so delicious. I couldn't stop eating it. The only reason why I didn't give this establishment a 5 star rating is because of the selection and variety of foods. There isn't a lot to pick from which could be good in some cases, short is better sometimes but if you come here too much, it could get boring. Expand the menu items and grow! Don't be afraid to grow, it'd earn this business 5 stars without a doubt. I highly recommend you stop in a see if Something's Brewing!
(4)Mike H.
Love this place! It's my local coffee shop and couldn't be happier. I've been for an am wake up, lunch and quick dinner; every time it's great. The menu is huge for such a small place and the service is always wonderful, friendly and easy going. Seriously, there is no wrong choice here.

Something's Brewing is really three great establishments in one. First it is a restaurant that offers a wide variety of tasty sandwiches(try the Old World), soups and vegetarian fare in cafe environment. Second, it is a coffee specialty shop that offers expresso, capaccino and flavored coffees if you want to hang out. Finally, it is a sweet shop with chocolates and treats to go for special events or just if you want a fantastic bit of toffee. Everything is made fresh and the staff is very friendly. This is a family-owned business and there are two locations in Grayslake. One is across from Lake County Community College and the other one is downtown on center street. I like the downtown location if I am shopping and the Washington Street location because it is conveniently located with plenty of parking.
(5)Nate C.
I really want to like this place. I have never eaten here but I do stop in for a latte whenever I am in town. They are really never good or bad, just bland and okay.
(3)Rob S.
I stopped in one day because they have a satellite location at the college (CLC), and so I figured I would see what the full service establishment was like. My favorite is the Caramel Smoothie, quite decadent. Their muffins are also quite tasty. Be prepared that the chocolate one can be messy. There is some outdoor seating.
(3)Cynthia B.
It was such a nice relaxing visit on a Sunday morning, and the young girl there was great! Then an older employee came in around 11am, and decided it was time to blast her favorite tunes. What a mood buster!! Couldn't hear...couldn't converse. Time to go. No one was staying around at that point. She was old enough to know better. Wake up!
(3)Talea B.
Fresh coffee, fresh sweety treats, fresh salads and whole grains available. The owner is local and between her and the staff provide great customer service. Delightful atmosphere.

The only reason I am going to give this coffee shop 2 stars is because my first impression was "this is a really nice looking shop". THEN things got serious. ....My "cappuccino" was the worst I have ever had. First off for a small , 12oz they only use ONE espresso shot... HUH? The milk was way-way-way-way ...did I mention WAY to hot and burnt. I am very unhappy having to write this because I wanted so badly to enjoy this place. Cappuccino should be foam..MORE foam than milk, correct? I am not crazy right? Barley any foam, and what was there was just horrible. I guess could it be possible it was the baristas first day? Maybe.. I sure hope so... I usually do not review based on one visit....... however, this will be my only visit to this place. How can I support a small buisness like this? I never go out this way, just happen to be in this area for a meeting. The big B (the boss man) who I was with, ordered a reg. coffee, which I didn't taste, but he wasn't impressed. The place had a pretty decent location and I would say that's about the only thing holding it together. The prices were fine, the menu looked nice. I didn't see any bakery items, unless I missed'em? Ahhh!

ooh how yummy. My friend and I were out in the area visiting friends and needed a quick coffee. We found this place on my phone and headed over. Inside we were greeted by the heavenly aroma of baked breads and muffins. We ordered coffees but were having trouble deciding between the many different types of muffins. (Seriously there were like 12 types) However, the nice lady behind the counter suggested the blueberry muffins because they were the freshest. How thoughtful of her! Those muffins were amazing! They were still a little warm in the center, THATS how fresh they were. Plus, they had real blueberries, not those weird shriveled specks of dark blue. Plus plus, they were huge. I'm rarely out that way, but next time I am I will definitely be sure to stop by and get more delicious muffins.
(5)Christina S.
This review is only for their muffins and coffee. The best thing I can say is the coffee was piping hot. However, my caramel apple latte tasted neither of caramel nor apple. I picked up 4 huge muffins to take home: blueberry strudel, Oreo, chocolate banana, chocolate and peanut butter. They must not have been fresh. They were heavy, dry and lacking in flavor. By the time we got around to trying the blueberry, we didn't wanna go there, so we really only had the three. I will not be trying the muffins again. And my hubby said the red velvet cake slice I brought him was practically inedible. On the plus side, the muffins were only $2.25 each. I might try the lunch items (their menu is huuge for such a little place) since people seem to like this place, but so far, I'm not impressed. We really aren't picky people either, so I was really surprised. Hoping they were just having an off day. It's really a cute little gift shop though. They had some adorable gift baskets, and what appear to be homemade chocolate confections, which I'd also like to try in the future.

MMMM, perfect lunch stop. Tons of food to choose from, delicious salads. I got the buffalo chicken salad. Really good garlic bread. Baked goods look so tasty, trying to resist...
(5)Scott V.
This is a great local cafe. It is one of my favorites in the area. I have been to this location and the downtown location several times for lunch or dinner and the food is always good. They have some great vegetarian options and a great selection of other favorites. The menu is so large it is a bit daunting at first. The salads are great too. Last time I had a BLT and soup. It did not disappoint and I will be back to be sure.
(5)Cheryl M.
I visit their kiosk at CLC, their shop on Washington Street and also the cute and cozy restaurant on Center Street. I am always greeted warmly with wonderful food and drinks. This shop has a hometown feel. I highly recommend their food and their coffee drinks. They also support local charities. It is very nice to have them as a part of Grayslake and the college.
(5)Melanie R.
I LOVE the Maui Lattes, and I really like the rest of the menu. This place is super cute, and such a refreshing break from the chain coffee shops. However, the reason I gave this location (versus the one on Central in downtown Grayslake, which I would give 5 stars) only 3 stars is because the place has an atrocious smell. I don't exactly know what it is (combination of cleaning solution and nasty commercial kitchen smell?), but I literally get nauseous waiting for my drink. Now, I love the drink so much, and its a good price, that I endure this for the couple minutes it takes them to make it. But, I could never bring anyone here, and I can't order anything else because I lose my appetite walking in there, and I wouldn't be able to wait any longer for the food. I would definitely come here more, and spread the word, if they fixed this.
(3)Sean D.
While the food here is enjoyable, I have found the service to be slow and servers to be forgetful. Last week my wife and I went for breakfast and stayed. Because we had time to kill the wait was no big deal. But if you are in a hurry, this is not the place. I waited 50 minutes thinking it was the usual slow service the second time around before it was discovered my order ticket was place in the done pile. I did get my money back, but the organization needs to be much, much better. So if you have plenty of time this is your place however there are 5 others places within 2-3 minutes that offer breakfast. I think the community is already seeing that less people go here because of the service in the downtown location.
(1)Jamie B.
This place has the BEST cupcake smoothies! Actually, everything I've had there has been very good! I went in wanting to try the above mentioned smoothie at the suggestion of a friend. It wasn't even on the menu anymore, but the guy working there made it for me anyway. Definitely going back again!
(5)Ruth Ann M.
This is a good place to go for lunch or coffee in an area where there aren't many options. The food is good but not spectacular. However, it is obviously made fresh, with care, and it will leave your belly satisfied. The menu choices are limitless. Allow yourself lots of time to read through all of your options. For lunch, they serve wraps, subs, stuffed-sandwiches in pizza dough, salads and soups. They also have options for vegetarians and vegans. If you're not ready for lunch, you can get fresh roasted coffee and something sweet from their large selection of pastries and baked goods. Something's Brewing is the best place in the area for a laptop lunch or coffee break. The staff is also very warm, welcoming and helpful.
(4)Val A.
I've only been here once and had their italian sandwich. It was OK. I wouldn't order it again. The staff was really friendly and they had a lot of choices which is how they earned a couple stars from me. Maybe I chose the wrong sandwich for my first experience. I want to come back and try some of their sweets, they looked fabulous! Also, I wish they had a website so I can look at a menu before coming!
