Just not that great. Pricey food that was just OK at best. There's not a lot of places like this in the area, otherwise I'd recommend going there instead. Johnny's nearby is much, much better even though it is an italian and seafood place. Don't waste your time or money.

It's a nice little joint. On the inside, it looks like something you would see back in the day. When my family and I go, there aren't a lot of people there, so it's really easy to order and get your food. I've tried their 1/4 pound burger and it is nice and juicy and cooked medium. The pricing is just right and you can get a drink, burger and fries for under $10. The restaurant is in a plaza so there is a parking lot for you. There's always a spot open.

Two word summary: just okay. Had the Italian beef w/ cheese meal that was almost $11 and they only give you a small drink (no refills) and fries. Fries (skinny & crisp) are quite good compared to the rest of their fare. Coworkers had burgers that were tough and below par. The menu is priced too expensive AND STILL they're stingy on napkins, plastic ware, condiments - everything is behind their counter. I'd pass this place up for the many other options in the area.

I visited Moondoggies for the first time 4/26/14. I was very disappointed. My girlfriend and I both ordered the steak sandwich combo. The steak was ordered medium but was given to us well done. It was a bit tough and stringy. The fries were cold. It was $10.95 each so it was a bit pricey for a lackluster dining experience. While I was eating my sandwich I thought I should have gone to another restaurant, like JK's, Photo's, or Heffy's.

This place looks awesome on the outside and awesome on the inside, but was very disappointing otherwise. It's very quiet, a little 50's/60's mood music would really lighten the place up, and make it fun! The food was very bland, And the service poor. I had a chili dog, and also tried a bite of the Moondoggie Burger both of which were flavorless. I'm glad I tried this place out, but was overall disappointed.

I went in for the special on ribs and asked if the sauce was gluten free. The staff checked it out but finally just to be sure they brought out the whole huge container of sauce so I could personally check the label for safety sake - this kind of service is appreciated! And the ribs were good. In addition since they knew I was gluten free the other items that came with the rib dinner were wrapped and packed separately - again for safety sake.

I went there with my friend for the first time and the food was fantastic. We ordered the full ribs, a burger and fries. Overall there was a lot of food. The burger was really good! Much better than burgerfi across the street. We had fun playing the juke box music too. Nice people and the place is kind of throw back. Not fully but it was satisfying and new.

We were in the area and decided to finally give this place a try, and I'd have to say that I will be back. We came at an off hour (after lunch) and it seemed rather quiet, we felt that we had to whisper to not disturb others but it was nice that it wasn't crowded and we didnt have to wait long for our food. I enjoyed my hot dog and got tons of fries; I also had a bite of their burger and it reminded me of Portillos.. I guess I was expecting I bustling/active lunch restaurant but it was more low key, I'll be back to see if I can get a different perspective of this establishment and try something else on the menu. Also, great deal for the hot dog combo..

My family and I have supported this business for 27 years and have enjoyed delicious gyros. Granted the place could use a little makeover and a few extra smiles :) We had not been in to this establishment for awhile and decided to take the family for gyros. We ordered gyro plates and waited a long time for our order. When the food arrived it was cold and dried out. We related our concerns to the woman working at the counter and told us "you are not suppose to touch the food!!!"...She was very upset with us and continued to yell at us about touching "our" food... We decided to cancel our order and try another restaurant in the area (Walley's Gyros, Little Louies and so many more)... We also found out that the original owner sold this establishment to the cook recently and things aren't going very well..including the FOOD...to bad was such a great place before..

Every time I pass this place I have to stop here. Yes it is a bit big, and a bit old as it has been there forever, but it is also quite and a great place to eat in peace. The Polish and Dogs and Beefs rival that of Portillo's are better then SuperDawg ( and less expensive), and for those that remember are as good as Big Herm's . The fries I ordered well done, and while not brown, do come very thin, light and crispy. Despite the decor, I still love this place and is well worth the stop.

I can't believe I have to write this in a review: This place smelled like sewage! In college I worked at a major fast food chain where the city sewer once backed up through our floor drains. So I understand that maybe this can happen, but we did everything to make sure our customers understood the situation. PJ Moondoggies however "welcomed" you without a passing glance AND smelled like sewer AND had a depressing atmosphere free of music AND had bland flavorless food. It looks fun from the outside, with a nostalgia 50s theme, but inside are peeling carpets, creepy wide walls and ceilings made creepier by the lack of music, and a half of their dining room blocked off and dark as night. (We does any place darken the closed section of their dining room? A sign is enough and the dark corner comes off as creepy and oppressive) My wife got sick as well (See her review: April L.). We shouldn't have stayed and won't be back.

My co-workers and I go to this place whenever we have the urge for fast food, which is very rare. The atmosphere here is decorated with a 50's and 60's style diner with a jukebox that takes in money but hardly works...You can hardly hear the music even if you are sitting a few feet away from the jukebox. My co-worker and I always get the roasted chicken with a side of rice or fries. I've had their Burger, Shrimp basket and their Fish & Chips, but I was not really impressed. Everything just tasted very bland. The only thing I remotely enjoy ordering is their roasted chicken prepared in either Greek Style or smothered in BBQ sauce with a side of fries and a stale butter toasted bread, nothing spectacular. Ive also found their fries to be very soggy. I have to admit though this place is a bit healthier for fast food then eating across the street at Wendy's, Mcdonald's or Burker King; although Mcdonald fries "RULES!!!" and is so much better tasting then the crap fries they serve here at Moondoggies. A note to PJ MoonDoggie's, please fix that damm Juke Box machine !!! ; if your going to have a 60's style diner, you should have a working JukeBox that actually plays music you can hear.

I was in the area and decided to stop in for dinner based on a few favorable reviews for this place. Near the somewhat run-down corner of Milwaukee and Lake in Glenview, Moondoggies is located on the SE part of the intersection. I came in and the humid French fry aroma hit me immediately. The place felt a bit too warm and stuffy, but bearable after a while. Inside, it kind of looks like a Portillo's, with black and white checkered tiles all over the walls and old-time photos of 1950s celebrities like Elvis and James Dean on the walls. Lots of 4-chair tables in the dining area. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich combo. The chicken could use a little spice but with the lettuce, tomato, pickle and mayo on a hearty kaiser roll bun, it's quite a meal. The "small fries" were anything but small. The amount of fries they served me on my tray could probably have been enough to fill two of the small fry packets. I saw someone order one of their burgers and it sure looked mighty tasty too... Worth coming back here.

Actually its a 3.5, but what can you do...Good place to go to for Italian beef, hot dogs, and burgers; the usual fast food stuff with your choice of fries or onion rings - food is reliable, though nothing too bang great. Roomy, clean, and the food comes in fairly quick. Kids, teens, to adults come in, so its fairly family friendly place. If Superdawg or Photo's not reachable in Glenview, then this place is a suitable place to go for greasy stuff.

Worst burger in the area. And just to make sure, I gave it a second shot, just in case they were having an off-day the first time. It's colorful in there, though. If you like your overpriced greasy food with a side order of neon, maybe this is your place. Not mine. Photos and more detail here: fooddigestonline.com/pos…

Mmm love this place! Get the chicken souvlaki. Get it!! It's a pita with chunks of grilled chicken and the chicken tastes phenomenal, then add onions tomatoes and tzatziki sauce- so good!! Fries are pretty good, nothing to go crazy about. Greek salad is great. Now I want to go here for lunch...

I was drawn here by the bright neon sign, plus it's around the corner from the hotel where I was staying. Their menu includes a few hot dog varieties, gyros, a skirt steak sandwich on garlic bread (I was sorely tempted to order this), a few burger varieties, fish, chicken, or meatball sandwiches, and 4 different submarine sandwich choices as well. Other entrees include bbq pork ribs, whole orhalf chicken dinners, and a few salads. Side orders here had the usual suspects, but a couple items I spotted that I usually don't find were the deep fried cauliflower and spinach pie. I opted for the 1/4 lb mushroom burger and the fried cauliflower. The burger was average, but the cauliflower was excellent. I think I may order up another batch of those puppies before vamoosing out of town in the morning.

Three stars for being a great place to get whatever fast food you're itching for. We go to Moondoggies whenever we're craving a hot dog, or some gyros, or a burger. They really have it all. The prices are reasonable (about $4-$6 for any single item, combo not included). we walked in one night and a little girl was helping her grandma with the register - it was so cute - she got to swipe the credit card. Moondoggies has an unpretentious easy going atmosphere which is great on a lazy friday or saturday night. Who should go to Moondoggies: Those who are craving some fast food at a reasonable price and want to toy around with the jukebox. People looking for a "diner" like experience, without having to pay for the service with a tip. Who should avoid Moondoggies: People looking for an extra value meal for $5 total. People who want waiter service

If you're looking for fast food and are in the area, I'd definitely give this place a try. My family has been ordering from here for years and between all of us, I'm sure we've tried nearly the entire menu. Some of my favs: - mozzarella sticks - cheeseburger - gyro - fried mushrooms - hot dog - fries

We were on our way to see a friend's play in nearby Glenview and stopped by here for a quick bite...so glad that we did. I think I had one of THE best hotdogs I've had in a very, very long time. It was perfect. Perfect sprinkle of celery salt, big tomato slices and the biggest pickle I've ever gotten with a hotdog...I was in heaven. Fries were perfectly cooked with a nice crunch too. Slightly pricey but it was worth it. I didn't see the typical "2 hotdog" special that you see at most places but maybe I didn't look hard enough. Will be back for more dogs if we are in the area!

Good fries and nice service... The place is so cute on the inside; it is decorated like a 50's diner. There is ample seating and places to go for privacy. I got a burger and fries. They give a huge portion of fries! A small order of fries is comparable to a large order of fries elsewhere. Nice! They're thin-cut fries, which I like. Nice, small, and salty. My burger was mediocre... nothing too special. It was not too thick and I felt there was too much bun in ratio to the amount of meat. It's basically like any other place who does the hot dog, burger, and fries thing... Decent! Manders approves!

Moondoggy is a superhero who fights evil with moonbeams and large Italian sausages. Moondoggy heaves the fatty meat-filled casings at his enemy and the explosion of the cooked fatty sausage scalds his enemy with hot grease and said enemy collapses in a pool of molten grease. Moondoggy then uses his cooling moonbeam rays to coagulate the grease which consequently freezes his enemy. Really! Actually, MD's serves up standard Italian beef, sausage, polishes, hot dogs, burgers, gyros, etc. fare. After many-a-failed suburban efforts, I sadly concluded that one could not get a good Italian beef outside of Chicago. Well, I am today proven wrong by the Doggy! The Doggy dude dipped the bun for the Beef in the gravy prior to loading it up with thinly sliced beef and hot giardenara peppers. It was very tasty, i.e., tasted like a Chicago Beef should. The receptionist at work raved about the chicken sandwich she had, but she's pregnant and last week found the stapler and post-it notes to be quite delectable. Either way, I'll be back. Moondoggy! Superhero of Suburban Beef! Nice Doggy of the moon.... Now, Ubu, get me another beef! Good dog...wait, don't eat it!!!

"So where you guys going after school" "Well, Brenda and Kelly are going to Spencer's to get their ears pierced." "Cool, Steve, Brandon, and Dylan will meet you all at PJ Moondoggies." Moondoggy serves up your typical fare of burgers and hot dogs with a side of high school lameness. Mediocrity is the name of the game here, although the shoestring fries are tasty. Save your dough, go to The Works instead.

This place is okay for a quick bite to eat. The food's a little dry but other than that this place is pretty spacious and looks cool with the old school decor (they have a jukebox!).

Somehow I managed to not be obese in high-school despite the fact that I was eating Moondoggies about 3 times per week. Chicken sandwich is a favorite of mine - they actually have really ripe, fresh tomatoes, not like most greasy-spoon joints. And Andrew H does not lie - they have THE BEST cheese fries. I have yet to find any better.

I come here for gyros when I want gyros...and fries. I tried the ribs once...meh. Their gyros will satisfy. It won't blow any minds. The place has a 50's vibe that tries too hard, but I give them credit for doing more than just painting the walls. It's always empty when I go.... I take my gyros back home. The lady likes their greek salad...and fries....always has to steal some of my gyros....I let her keep her salad.

Was looking for a bite to eat while in Chicago and decided to stop at PJ Moondoggies for dinner because of it's nice large sign that you can see far out from the street. Located in small strip mall, Moondoggies is reminiscent of 50's style dinner. 50's style decor complete with the old school individual letter menu. Most of the food here is typical dinner style food, burgers, chicken, hot dogs, and even ribs. Most items you can get for under $15. Since I was in Chicago, had to get a Chicago style hot dog. Service was pretty quick and it had everything on it including the sport peppers. Got a side order of fries with that too. Portion size was generous and service on the quick side. I can see why people like Chicago dogs, I have to say for just a hot dog, it was pretty good. Overall, if looking for someplace just to eat or a decent place to take the family with several options that won't break the bank, I would defiantly recommend P.J Moondogies.

I grew up in Glenview, and, now that I live in San Francisco, there's not a lot of cuisine that I miss from the North Shore suburbs. But, every time I visit my family, Moondoggies is the shrine I visit for my gyros and cheese fries fix. It's not good for you, but it's freakin' awesome! This is a 50's-themed diner, complete with checkerboard floor tiles and jukebox of oldies. It's a typical Chicago Greek-style burger joint: juicy 1/2 pound burgers with all the trimmings, hot dogs and polishes, and awesome gyro sandwiches on pita, doused with cucumber sauce and raw onion. Oh and the best goddamn cheese fries you will ever eat, a mountain of crispy fries topped with gloppy, bright yellow, artificial cheese bliss. At night they have ribs and rotisserie chicken, although I've never tried those All their food is gut-busting and artery-clogging, but damned tasty. I'm sure I'll continue adding cholesterol to my system here every time I visit my parents in the future. I really wish we had this type of restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area... but it's probably good for me that we don't!

Very good beef. Unusual hole in the wall place, but good food. Typical Chicago burb strip mall burger and beef joint. Not bad.

Typical Chicago burbs Hot Dog/Burger/Gyro place. A good place to go to grab a quick bite. If you have a craving for any of the aforementioned bites and some time, there are definitely better choices. The gyro was a bit dry and the Italian Sausage although good, was buried in too much bread.

Moondoggies is pretty good. You feel like you're in the show Happy Days when you're in there. The hot dogs and gyros are pretty good. The milkshakes are excellent. They're not the best in the area but I'm quite sure that if you eat there you will leave satisfied.

Nothing fancy but great place for a hot dog and fries. The kids love it!

Decent. I work nearby so it is a good choice if you crave a burger and fries. I wouldn't make a special trip out here.

Not bad.
(3)Alan R.
