El Jardin impresses me less and less each time I visit. On the last visit I found the margaritas were undrinkable and the chicken taco wasn't DE-boned. Won't visit the establishment again unless they are handing out $100 bills.

Ick. One of those where i wish I could give a half star. Great location and space. I walked in and a dirty person was very rude and immediately gave me attitude so I left. The food may be good but I doubt it judging by the appearance of the greaseball holding up the host station. Pretty weak. Went to Las Palmas on Waukegan instead. Food was great. Servers were courteous and even pleasantly engaging. Skip El Jardin. Sad, really.

The food and service always seem ok but nothing great. I really can't find a good place to eat in the Glen:(

love love LOVE! it's one of our favorite places to go to on date nights. We've been going for the past 3.5 years and have never. ever had a bad experience :)

If every Saturday I could relax with 3 margaritas from El Jardin, my world would be a happier place! I simply love it here. It's a small restaurant, but I've never had a bad experience or had to wait longer than 20 minutes for a table. We ate at the bar Saturday night so we could watch football, and it was great. We had plenty of space to spread out and the bartender took good care of us. I switched it up a bit and ordered a combination plate with 1 spinach, 1 mushroom, and 1 pork taco. I was so full after the mushroom and pork tacos I had to take the spinach taco home, but it made for a delicious breakfast snack Sunday morning. Like I said the margaritas are great and their guac is fresh and tasty too. If you live in the area, dinner at El Jardin makes for a great night out with your girlfriends or for a date!

This place is awful. The food from the quesadillas to even the chips and dip were all disgusting. The overpriced margaritas were subpar. But that pales in comparison to the awful, awful service. The waitress was rude, questioning what I ordered, and they didn't even have it in (she said an hour after I ordered!) Don't go here if you want good Mexican food or good margaritas.

I'd give it 4 stars for the beautiful surroundings of The Glen in which it resides, but stripped of those surroundings, I think this place would have a hard time competing with other Mexican restaurants I've come to like over the years. We selected El Jardin for its outdoor Mexican dining as the main criteria for our latest NW Suburban Unofficial Yelp Dinner. The camaraderie of fellow Yelpers Kathy R, Lisa B (with her son as her "date"), George R, Giselle S & her husband Paul, and Victoria H made the evening worthwhile and we stayed for close to 3 hours. Victoria even brought some Yelp stuff to share with everyone. Five stars for that. But then the restaurant's own inadequacies emerged. As the organizer of the dinner, I reserved the outdoor seating a month in advance to assure my group of 12-15 expected people that we would have an outdoor spot. The reservation was not a problem till I called the day of the dinner to downgrade the number to 11. At that point, I found out they cannot guarantee outdoor seating for reservations. A callback from the manager later assured me that they would try to get 2 tables together for our group. Turns out it was all we needed, but had we been a bigger group, this could have turned ugly. Reservations shenanigans aside, let's take a look at the menu. Who has a menu? Well, only some of us. Victoria and Kathy each had one. I didn't. For the 9 of us attending, I think there were only 4 menus on the table. When I glanced at the menu, the $9 margaritas turned me off right away. I won't pay for a drink that costs as much as a main course. I decided to run my steak burrito benchmark test - comparing it to the penultimate steak burrito of the highest order from Taco-Burrito King. The platter arrived and I got 3 slender burritos rather than a single, bloated football-shaped burrito I had envisioned. Victoria's swollen vegetarian burrito looked more impressive, though she was not that thrilled with hers. The steak was grilled nicely in my skinny burritos but they could have used more "stuff" inside for the $ I paid for my dish, which was one of the more expensive choices. Giselle shared her ceviche with us. It tasted awesome, even though she repeatedly claimed to have double-dipped. Seeing she appeared healthy and free of any communicable diseases, I tried it for myself and liked its overall fresh taste. There was an awkward long period without any waiter visits after our main courses were finished. Usually someone comes offering desserts afterwards. I had to bring it up to the waiter. A couple of us tried flan and it was good, but after trying La Tasca's flan, I can't give the edge to El Jardin on this either. If there was one consistently redeeming quality to the food, it was the endless supply of chips - freshly made, lightly salted and constantly refilled, even when our main dishes arrived. I kept eating chips right up to the end, as they were so addicitingly tasty. The hottest salsa they offered was not too hot but very flavorful. I would recommend that over their milder variety. In all, I think we enjoyed ourselves but I vow to do better in selecting our next venue for a dinner.

I really liked this location. I had only been to the one in Wrigleyville before this visit. I was pleasantly surprised. The decor was open yet comfortable. The lighting was bright, yet appropriate for the decor. The staff was very friendly, and accommodating. The food was just alright; not the best I've ever had. I had chicken enchiladas with rice. I was able to substitute extra rice for the beans, which was nice. The only thing I would like to change is their tequila selection. You are able to upgrade the tequila you have in your margarita, but the best one they have is Jose Quervo. Granted, they do have the Anejo, which is good, but they should offer Patron. Ya hear that owners...upgrade your tequila! :)

Last night my husband and I went to El Jardin at the Glen for dinner. What a disappointment. We paid $67 for a mediocre meal. Fajitas should be served on a sizzling plate. Mine was luke warm and I am sure the chicken was pre cooked-and over cooked. My husband had enchiladas and they were also luke warm. And, I am sorry, but $10 for guacamole is a but much. I have to say the margaritas were very good or I would have given this place 1 star!! We will not be returning.

When my group and I got a table, we ordered a round of drinks but then proceeded to wait ~20 min to get them. During this ridiculous wait, three different workers came up to us and asked if we wanted drinks. Who knows what the hell happened there? They either didn't understand English or maybe they thought we were just joking about getting drinks. Once we finally received them, they then brought out cups of water as well as the chips and salsa. I had never been to El Jardin before that, but I assumed that all of that should have been at the table from the beginning. Maybe this was just an off night but boy was the initial service crappy. Way to set a good first impression guys! We have been back numerous times for karaoke but you're better off going to the bar for drinks or directly walking up to staff if you want food. We came here specifically for karaoke night and we had a blast, especially once the staff realized we were actual customers. El Jardin is a smaller place but the energy level was surprisingly high for karaoke. Maybe it was because our party was rambunctious and sang awesome songs? Anyway, the drinks, especially the Long Islands, are crazy strong but these, as well as pretty much everything else on the menu, was a bit on the pricey side. Drinks ran us ~$9.00 each and food was ~$13.00. Food quality wasn't that bad though.

Wish I could give ZERO stars. We were a party of 6 so a gratuity of 20% was automatic --guess the waiter figured he didn't have to work for it. Slow service, had to beg for beverage refills, orders came out of the kitchen wrong, food was lukewarm. My husband and I each orderd the shrimp taco (3 small tacos) platter. WHERE WERE THE SHRIMP? $16 a plate and we had to excavate to find a few little tiny pieces of shrimp... probably LESS than 1 Tablespoon total on the ENTIRE PLATE. Even the rice, which is a low cost plate-filler, was scant--and flavorless. Noisy music. No way, Jose'. Pass this place by.

Came here for a birthday party and karaoke. Our group was ready to drink and enjoy ourselves only the waiter was too busy enjoying himself laughing and hanging out. Our waiter disappeared for thirty minutes, no drink refills for us. No water refilled either after being there for three hours. I was so upset i went straight to the bar to order drinks for my party. Now keep in mind the place was not busy so the waiter was not so overwhelmed that he couldn't handle his three tables. I ordered mild wings, they came out hot. We were also told they could not take more then one credit card for the bill. Wow, really that's a first. By the way your first basket of chips are free after that they charge, lol. I decided to call the next day to speak to the owner thinking he would like to know how is restaurant was being run. My family has owned restaurants and i know we would have wanted to know about patrons receiving bad service. The owner Larry didn't seem to care. He asked why we stayed. I guess he could see my point, i mean why would you stay in a restaurant that was so bad. Because we were celebrating a birthday Larry. I have respect enough for the birthday person to not make them get up and leave and cause a scene. That is why I got up and served them drinks on my own while your waiter was who knows where. The owner was condescending and kept saying "what is it that you want me to do about it" Well Larry your the owner and if you do not know how to run or manage the place find another job. Honestly, i need to tell you how to manage and train your staff not to be awful at their jobs. I guess you can stand to lose customers since the economy and businesses are doing so well these days. P.s If your an adult hanging out in the Glen, don't go here the place is a big hangout to junior high and high school kids.

My sister and I went out for margaritas! Nice atmosphere and seating outside...unfortunately the margaritas were water down with lime juice concentrate. No fresh lime juice and weak tequila (although we asked for don Julio aged). Similar to other reviews, the guacamole was not fresh and for a small plate cost $10! It was watery and must have been made at least days before. We were really disappointed with the quality of ingredients and don't plan to visit again.

Stood around and waited for our group to be seated for 10 min while being ignored by employees (no hostess). The couple ahead of us left (I wonder how long they had waited!). Service was terrible, the waiter seemed nice enough but looked like he was spread so thin he was gonna faint! The quality of food is reason enough for me not to return. It stunk. I have now had the worst Margarita I've ever tasted as well. Over priced yuck! Such a waste of a great location in Glenview.

I have never tried the entrees here, and I'm only familiar with a few of their appetizers; as a result, I am not reviewing this place for their food. I DO, however, know quite a bit about their margarita selection, which (for me, at least) is the real draw. They have a wide variety of tequilas available, and their basic margarita costs about $8, though they do have drink specials. On Wednesdays and Fridays they have karaoke, and the DJ and owners make it quite a fun experience. The restaurant itself is a little small, and if you want to get a table in the bar, close to the action, you may have to wait a little while (especially on Fridays). The drinks are worth it, though, and have on numerous occasions lead to me damaging property and waking up the next morning covered in mysterious, unexplainable scratches and bruises. THAT, my friends, is the sign of a good bar!

Don't understand all the complaints! Fast, friendly service from 2 waiters & a busboy. Got the steak & chicken fajitas for 2. De-licious! Plenty of food for the 2 of us. The frozen margarita was a great complement. It was our 2nd visit, and we plan on coming back!

Sorry, but this place had all the elements to a bad experience. 1. Bad food 2. Slow service 3. High prices for what you get 4. Guacamole at "market price" ?? didn't even taste good! I got the steak fajitas and the meat was flavorless and unseasoned. Just not worth going again for another shot.

I really hate writing a horrible review here since the "proprieter/waitress" was so nice and accommodating but the food here is horrific and NOT fresh at all. The margarita's are ultra sweet as they use agave syrup and we needed 3 margaritas just to get a buzz. Go to taco bell instead nearby and a bar to get margaritas. I dont know how this place stays open in pleasantville, I mean the Glen...but then again lots of people walkin round here have NO taste.

Food is average. Service is not good. Management wants to rush you out the door. I was not impressed at all and will not be going back. If you want customers then you need to treat them right. Others in our neighborhood have had the same experience. There are other Mexican places in Glenview and the surrounding areas that are significantly better.

YUM! Got their chicken and steak fajitas for 2 and shared with my bf. It was filling and enough for both of us! Prices aren't bad and the chips and salsa is crunchy and flavorful. The margaritas are expensive ($13), but still delicious! It's a great place if you want to eat outside with a big group.

Came here for a friend's birthday lunch while in the area on a weekday. Not many people were in the place, but service was a little distracted. The guacamole was good, as were the chips and salsa. I ordered the steak burrito, and it's possible that I just ordered poorly, but it wasn't the greatest. My friend ordered the cheese quesadillas which looked really good, though. With so many taquerias in the city that serve the same caliber of food, I don't think I'll be back, but if I do, the quesadillas and guacamole are high on my list!

After looking at some of the reviews, I'm thinking that maybe I had a unique experience or perhaps they are taking to heart what people are writing and trying to change their service and spice up their food a bit. I went here a few days ago with friends after an unpleasant experience at another restaurant down the street. We were seated promptly even though the place was pretty full. I liked the atmosphere on the inside; very low key but not dive-y, just an all around casual place. Our service was prompt and our drinks were well attended, as were the chips and salsa. The guacamole was good but a little on the expensive side. I know avocados are going through a bit of a crisis in Mexico right now but the crop is doing fine in the US; market price for avocados? I think that's a little over the top; we aren't talking Copper River Salmon or Lobster here. Actually, that pretty much sums up most everything at the restaurant, the food and drinks are good but they are a little on the expensive side. Also, the three of us had margaritas and they were fairly week. Given how expensive they are I would have expected a little more tequila. All that being said, the fajitas I had were good. I received a generous portion of steak, vegetables, guacamole, and sour cream. Also, the tortillas were good and they gave me a good amount for the food I had. My friends' meals were also enjoyable. I would go back again though I would definitely not order a margarita, maybe just a beer next time instead.

So we decided to go here hearing how great the margarita are here. We all ordered different margarita, and none of them were great! They tasted fresh, but not very tasty, I didn't feel like I wanted another. So in all the margarita experience was only ok. The chips and salsa were good, but they charge extra for more salsa... WHAT really, at a mexican restaurant... huh!! we thought they were joking... but nope they really do charge extra! The food experience was ok... but way over priced for the food. Don't get the fajita shrimp, it was really bland... and nothing came out sizzling! As a vegetarian it was ok, the vegetarian super burrito was pretty good. The manager was a little rude, but it didn't bother me too much, since our waitress was very nice.

Hi. I went with my kids and was super disappointed. Kids ordered from the kids menu. They ordered kids taco meal. Only to arrive with one sorry taco on an empty plate. No garnish, rice, or anything. My meal was cold and bland. The only decent thing so far was the chips and salsa. Dessert menu looked great. Ordered fried ice cream only to be told that it is no longer on the menu. Bummer. Left the place hungry, disappointed, and sure that I will NEVER go back

I've been here twice; both times it was excellent food. The first time it was the best service a customer could ask for, however, the second time it was awful service.. the server was hardly around and it took forever for him to even greet us and take our drink order. I might give it another try, but I'd probably pass on it if I knew better Mexican was available in the area.

While the chips and salsa were well below average, the fajitas were fantastic. Also, the service was very friendly.

A+++ Delicious Mexican favorites. Fantasic guacamole and Salsa. I recommend the Steak Milenesa and just about everything else on the menu. We go for lunch often, but the charm of El Jardin comes out at night...be sure to get a Margarita. Bonus when the weather is nice, the restuarant walls open and there is outdoor seating. Very energetic to sit on Tower drive during the weekends.

If you've always wondered what the hell is in the Glen, it's a bunch of fancy living places, a movie theater (5 buck club eligible) and a strip of restaurants, the most prominent of which is El Jardin. Most people won't find themselves driving in the Glen without the advice to check it out. But here is what you need to do, and what to get. Well of course, first, travel into the Glen. Then walk around for a bit, preferably during the summer, it's a great afternoon activity just for a change of scenery. THEN when you get hungry, hit up El Jardin. Yes, they have a bar. Yes, their servers tend to be hit or miss (either really helpful and perky or really irritated by your existence). They also have a breakfast menu, but I beg you visit for dinner. That's definably where you'll find your best experience. What to eat: COMBOS! Get yourself tacos, tostadas, burritos, or chimichangas (three of four) with whatever filling you're looking for (meat, beans, etc.) about 12 dollars. How the heck can you beat that? Their tacos by the way? WOO, amazing. Also, their beef enchiladas? Yum. If you're looking for a big heavy meal, the Pollo a la Parilla is a broiled chicken breast, and though that seems rather bland, it's actually REALLY good. Go on now! Explore!!

Ok, full disclosure, I live two blocks away and it is easy for my honey and I to walk over on Friday nights, eat, drink and toddle home after I make patrons ears bleed by singing Karaoke. So maybe this makes it easier to overlook what sometimes occurs with lapses in service. But really people, slow down, imagine your South of the boarder and ease up! the food is generally good, if not a tad overpriced. Things you can't beat are Monday night half priced Carne Asada or sitting outside on a summer night having a couple margaritas. Oh, by the by, half price carne asada is suddenly expensive if you was it down with two margaritas, yet you will be full and have a smile on your face when you leave...

Best margaritas and it's my wife & I's "go to" place in The Glen. The people are friendly and rarely do you have to wait very long for a table. I'd recommend this place for it's excellent margaritas, but the food is pretty average for a Mexican restaurant. They have excellent deals quite often on Groupon, Living Social, Twitter, and through email.

Awful. Absolutely awful. Do not eat at this restaurant. Went here on a weeknight after a movie. The place was crowded and the staff short-handed, but they didn't make any effort to wait on their customers. The entire restaurant was complaining about the service and the staff just ignored it. We waited and waited for someone to take our order and then waited even longer for the food to arrive. And we never got one of our dishes! Then when we complained to the waitress about the bill, the manager stormed out and ended up asking US to leave. As for the food: nothing special. And what Mexican restaurant posts a reminder on your menu saying that only the first basket of chips is free? El Jardin Norte was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had.

So my husband and I were really excited to get out of the house, and he's had crazy cravings for mexican food since we moved up to the burbs. When we found out that there was an El Jardin up here, we decided that we had to try it. At the location in the city, the margaritas are absolutley increible. We were expecting the same of the food up here, and we were pretty disappointed. I ordered the enchiladas. It tasted like they were canned. Seriously. My husband's food was decent, but nothing noteworthy or very interesting. So it was nice to get out of the house and enjoy ourselves, but I do not see us going to El Jardin Norte ever again. And that's two stars for escaping the madness of the house!

Waiver: I had a sinus infection so opted for a beer instead of a killer Margarita. The one sip I had was very good. That sip was pretty much the best part of this meal. Maybe it is the booze that accounts for the better reviews because it sure wasn't the food or service. The guacamole tasted like it was from a can. The food arrived loop warm with so little spice and flavor I felt like I was at a diner. The service was horrid despite the place being empty and they were out of chicken fingers. I have kids its a staple. I probably won't be back unless someone makes me.

Nothing special. Food is ok and service is poor. You would be better off at Chipotle!
(2)
Jane K.
I feel ambivalent about this place because I've had pretty darn good, four star food there and then I've had very insignificant two star food there, so I settled for a three star rating. I wouldn't object if someone really wanted to go there but I wouldn't necessarily choose it again. One thing I must mention is that dessert was good and please strongly consider putting a shot of tequila in your coffee, it's warms your right up and it's darn tasty.
(3)
Isabel C.
This place has terrible food for the price, and the drinks are expensive. Even the salsa is not good. I read the reviews and wonder why anyone eats there! Ok place to sit in the sun outside for an expensive drink, that's it. You can do better.

Kathy R.
I'm going with the rest of the 3-star reviews here: food was OK, but nothing special. And that is a bit surprising, considering the pricy-ness of the menu items. Case in point, I ordered the cheese enchiladas, with the (mild) ranchero sauce on top. There were three enchiladas, a little bit of rice and refried beans on the side. It was $13.99. It was underwhelming, sorry to say. If truth be told, I've had better tasting cheese enchiladas at Taco Burrito King for a fraction of the price. I did leave feeling pretty full, which could be due to the basket of tortilla chips I mindlessly consumed. It was a nice atmosphere, however. The Glen Town Center is a pretty, well-maintained retail haven, and we were sitting in El Jardin's outdoor patio on a beautiful summer evening. I always enjoy the company of my fellow Yelpers (five stars for you people!). The service was passable, but I agree with Mike O's assessment that they could have been more proactive in tending to our table (and why did we have to inquire about dessert?). It was an off-putting start when Mike was told they couldn't guarantee our outdoor reservations for 11. Had more people actually shown up, it would have been a real problem.

Been here a few times now with Tracy. I had a combination, two beef tacos and a chorizo chimi with rice and beans. Must say, two of the best tacos I've had in a while and the chorizo chimi, took me to 4 stars. To top it off we'd received a 20% coupon in the mail, so it was like free tip! Haven't been to the Bayless spots in Chicago, but if you're looking for an affordable, walk-in, clean and friendly spot... hard to go wrong.

I liked it. I took two clients/customers (it's complicated) and we had some pretty darn good Mexican food and lots of tequila. Except for the really...PRESENT...karaoke, it was 4 stars. I'd go back. P.S. It's in some development that used to be an Air Force or Army air base and they incorporated the tower into the ultimate design. Pretty cool.

Damn! Anywhere that will make me feel good driving home the 3 minute ride while listening to Usher's "I want to make love in this club" gets 5 stars from me. 3 stars goes to the second Margarita that was not made well, even though it was $ 5.50 on special ( regular $10). 3 stars for the the shrimp ceviche. Too limey for my taste. I warned ppl before I shared, because I double dipped. 4 stars for the refried beans from the combination that I shared with Paul. 5 stars for the camaraderie with Curious George, Victoria H. , Lisa B. and her son, Kathy, JR, the Howler, and my husband. Not to mention the outdoor, al fresco seating. Kind of hard with the sun shining, but once it set I could see the half of my party. The weather was oh so right! 5 stars to Mike 'the Howler Monkey" for setting up this occasion. 5 stars for Victoria for bringing the yelp swag. Love it. Thank you to all for making me feel like an adult. Talking without being interrupted. Lisa B. I will be PM'ing you with my questions.

I walked into El Jardin in the Glen and was greeted with a smile by the bartender. I was exhausted and starving. The margarita was good. The salsa was really good and the enchilada was even better. I appreciated the service that Edgar the bartender paid to me and I will definitely return. Nuff said! :-)

This was the most unpleasant restaurant experience I have ever been to. Not because of the food or waiter. But the manager. You cannot split checks no where does it say this and if you try be prepared to be harassed by the manager. I mean literally harassed. I would not recommend giving your money or supporting someone who yells at you for something you weren't aware you couldn't do. A true dick if you ask me.

This place was alright I ordered ceviche and they didn't have it because "business is slow" uh ok. I had two tacos and they were ok chorizo and pork. The jalapeno poppers were good. I make ones like that but I'm partial to mine. It was kinda over priced for the food and service but it is the Glen. I won't be back.

El Jardin is a cute little Mexican place in the Glen. The atmosphere is really inviting, especially when the weather is warm and all of the windows and doors are open. Lots of light inside makes this place very welcoming. The bar area is really nice, and not overwhelming... (I'll have to try the margaritas their next time!)... They also have a good number of booths and tables inside and outside, though I have never been there when its busy. . . I'd imagine it would get filled fast... The chips and salsa both seemed quite fresh. The salsa was quite different from the normal salsa you get at restaurants... It seemed to have a slight chipotle flavor, which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered a combination plate, which seems like the best bang for your buck. You can completely customize it too... you get to choose 3. . . from a taco, tostada, chimichanga, and a burrito... and then you can choose what filling you want as a filling: chicken, beef, chorizo, pork, spinach, mushrooms, cheese, or refried beans. Our entrees came out in a reasonable amount of time, and they were delicious! The chicken was moist and seasoned well... The amount of food given was probably smaller than you would expect, considering you can order a burrito... but I guess you can't really complain when you're still taking home a doggy bag! The side of rice and beans were also delicious... I would have to say the downside would have to be the service... we were the only table most of the time we were there, and still had to wait around for our waitress for a considerable amount of time.

Sorry Jardin, won't be back. We had a groupon with us and showed it to the waiter and he took it right a way before we ordered. He was pleasant but did not pay attention at all after we asked for a check and we gave him CC he asked if we can pay cash???? If not he said he will not give us special price for Margarita. I still don't understand what happened there, but he changed the prices on a check. I felt like he was trying to take advantage of us. Anyway chips and salsa were worst then most places around and food was so so and Margaritas were strong but not to my taste.. Looks like place was not busy at all on Sunday night. This place is missing people who care.

Not as good as the upscale places like Adobo or San Gabriel, but a good place for sit down Mexican. They have a very good Sunday brunch. I love their skirt steak. Their salsas, both mild and spicy that are put out before the meal are very good. The daily (and Fri-sat after 10) three to six half price appetizers are great bargain, although EJN's app menu is limited. Quesadillas, Chilaquiles, Queso Fundido, Guacamole, Nachos, Wings and Jalapeno Poppers are all they have. The Queso Fundido and Quesadillas are excellent. The QF with mushrooms is original and the quesadillas have an option with spinach. An extensive selection of margaritas and tequilas make EJN competitive with any of the other nicer Mexican places. Most weekend nights they are very busy. This location is not a big restaurant. Above average and a good place for a relaxed and nice meal.

My boyfriend and I came here on a busy Friday night and were seated promptly (thank god). The waiter took our drink order right away and brought a basket of chips and salsa. Surprisingly the salsa was pretty bland. I want expecting some sort of "kick" to it. Nope. So we decided to order a side of guac labeled "market price" Ok? We ended up being charged $10 for it...really? I'm not an avid guacamole eater but that seemed a little excessive for the small portion. This was bland as well. Honestly, the guac at chipotle is better...My boyfriend and I decided to share the steak fajitas for two. Although the dish was big enough for both of us, it was just mediocre. The side portions of rice, beans, sour cream, and guac were small. And they didn't give us enough tortillas to use all the fillings. I wasn't impressed with this place. Two good things about this place are A. the location and B. the service. our waiter was friendly and fast. But there are cheaper and better mexican places around.

Very average food and poor service, not recommended if you like authentic Mexican. Two errors on our order and the server could have cared less. We won't be back. Also very expensive for Mexican. It is in the high rent district after all. Strawberry Margarita's were good though, but expensive. Overall, not recommended.

I agree with the comments regarding the lousy attitude of the general manager and the food is only fair. Don Juan's in Park Ridge is a much better choice.

We've been there about a dozen times a...Its one of those places that I never get excited about, never plan or think about going to, but end up there anyways. The service is just fine...never had an issue. The drinks are good...usually prepare a killer margaritas for us. The food seems really typical mediocre food from all the other Mexican restaurants we visit. Overall its pretty pricey for Mexican food for just an average experience.

Not sure why this place got only 2.5 stars. Maybe I got lucky, but the food I ordered was terrific. I would give this place at least 4-stars, but out of principle, these people charged $1 for giardiniera hot peppers when I asked for jalapeños. An extra buck for some oily non-mexican peppers? Me thinks not. Upon dine in, you do get lukewarm chips and salsa. The salsa was runnier than I liked, it reminded me of ketchup, and not the chunky pico that I love from mexican restaurants. It was somewhat bland. As far as the entree, I ordered the chicken fajitas (of course) and they were delicious. The meat was well-seasoned and everything tasted great. BATHROOM REVIEW: The bathrooms are located near the kitchen. Inside, it was kind of dingy and had one urinal and a stall. It wasn't super clean, nor was it dirty like the places in Chinatown. Sit or Squat?? Squat.

Ho hum in every sense. At least the guacamole is good, but the stale chips make me want to curl up in the fetal position and rock back and forth. Places like this are a dime a dozen and it's pretty expensive for what you're getting. You're basically paying for the cost to rent in the glen, but really, you can't even make a taco taste less pedestrian?

I've dined at El Jardin several times, and it's never been anything spectacular, but I haven't had an issue until last night. With a group of four friends, I ate in the bar area. We were there to watch the Blackhawks game, but all ordered drinks and food, so it's not like we were being cheapskates about it. The waiter was kind of creepy and possibly drunk; he dropped his pen upon taking our drink orders and took quite a while locating on the floor, then brought out the wrong food initially. The food was fine, but not really worth the prices they charge. When the bill came, we asked if we could split the tabs. The manager indicated that they don't split tabs, but could take multiple credit cards. So we wrote down how much to charge on each card, which is understandably a bit of a nuisance on our part, but certainly nothing out of the ordinary. Our waiter then said he could only split the bill evenly two ways, so we asked again to speak with the manager. He gave us the same excuse, even though a friend I was with works in restaurant management and recognized the POS system as capable of splitting multiple ways. The manager's words were along the lines of "we haven't ever split bills, and we don't plan on ever doing it. I'm just an employee, it's not my decision." In the end, we were so frustrated with the experience that I put the whole bill on my card. Though tempted not to leave any tip, I opted instead for a meager one. I certainly hope the owners will invest time and effort into upgrading the level of service and courteousness afforded to El Jardin's guests. Until then, though, I will be steering clear.

The margaritas are good but the food could be better. I don't eat meat so I ordered their combo. I picked 3 bean burritos. They came with nothing but beans and the tortilla...no lettuce no Cheese, NOTHING. Disappointing.

Decent food, garbage service. - I'm not sure if getting a drink refill is possible. I never got one, even after asking. The "waiter" seemed to be inconvenienced that I was thirsty. Speaking of refills, cherish those chips, you'll never see the bowl refilled again. - Would not split checks. Okay. Would not divvy between credit cards for less than $15 on each though their lunch menu is about $10 a person. Go fist yourselves El Jardin. - Why does it take so long to deliver our food... given we were the only people in the entire place. It's not as though they're making gourmet meals here.

Wife & i ate there last night. Service was good, food was not so good & prices were fair for portion size. The seasoning on the steak fajitas was bland at best and the salsa was below average. we used to love the one on Clark in Chicago.

This restaurant has a sold 3-star menu. I had a Super Veggie Burrito and wasn't very impressed. It had veggies such as cauliflower and broccholi in side, but no sight of peppers or cheese. It came out almost cold and tasted very (very) bland. Don't get me wrong, i still ate it, mainly because i was starving. The service was great, fast. The prices are on the high-er end of average. Nothing less could be expected of a restaurant located at the Glen. There are very little options for you, if you're vegetarian. Though, I'm sure every dish could be requested meatless. I had a great time with fellow yelpers. Honestly, though, I would probably never come back. There are a lot better options in the area if you're craving Mexican food.

Stay away! I know Mexican food and El Jardin is junk. This has to be the worst tasting food I have ever experienced with an over-priced menu. Salsa tasted like blended pepper from a can. Meat was tough and under cooked. To top that off, horrible service. Margarita was only OK but nothing to scream about. The place is a joke. Paid over 60 for two. Blend, Blend, Blend!

Margaritas are good...food is mediocre. Service was nowhere to be found. Carne asada was tasteless and lukewarm.

A few years ago when I was in the oh-so fun stage of life: post-college/pre-real life, my friends and I would frequent El Jardin. Partially because they had just opened and we loved being their only 'regulars.' Food is pretty good. I always have the enchiladas with ranchero and they are just fine. But its the margs that really send me. Still my favorite margarita anywhere in Chicago (or burbs) is The Cadillac with Grand Marnier. But Bruce said it best - stick with just 2 of these Killer Concoctions. The only night we actually stuck around for a third, my friend went home with one of the servers. Ha!

I USED Like this place ! OK...! But something's changed & not for the better. It's not more than just " OK " The service is OK and the drinks...are OK Good selection of beers and but the wines are, less than OK. Something happened to the wine selection & it wasn't good. I've met the owner a few times...hospitable sometimes & sometimes not. There are better places for this genre' of food.

I'm really surprised by the most recent reviews of this restaurant, because my wife and I love this place. We feel the food and drinks are some of the best Mexican around. Hence why we go back so often. The margaritas are strong and the salsa is tasty.

I love mexican food, and this place was fantastic. Their chips, guacamole, and salsa, were addicting!!!! I had a chicken burrito and it just hit the spot. I wish I lived closer to the glen to come around here more.

Never had a worse experience than tonight. $13 dollar margaritas that didn't pack a punch. A waiter that I had to flag down for everything from hot sauce to my drinks. They wouldn't even let us use more than two credit cards to pay the bill. And watch out if it's karaoke night. Don't cheer to loud for the singer who is cursing on the microphone, the owner will walk up to your table and embarrass you. When it comes time to resolve any problems your waiter will have a conversation in Spanish with someone in your party because he won't speak to you. Yes, the same guy who was to busy hanging out on the job to tend to his table. Get ready to be forced to pay 20% tip for no service. Never coming back and neither should you.

I am not particularly a fan of their lunch buffet. I find it boring and uninspired. However, they do an excellent job at catering for large crowds. The manager is extremely helpful in getting you exactly the variety you need to make your event successful. Tip: Do not be decived by teh $5 Margarita special. Pay a few extra bucks and get a much better Margarita. Trust me, your tummy will thank you later!

The bartenders at El Jardin know what they're doing when they make a margarita! I swear, if I have two of those things, I'm walking home (thank god my parents don't live too far away!). Usually when I make it home for a visit, I make a stop at El Jardin and sit at the bar. I enjoy the atmosphere and talking to the bartenders. Oh, and those margaritas are good. The food is ok. It's not the best I've had, but it's certainly not the worst. The red snapper tacos I had most recently were muy fabuloso! But I must say that their burritos are a little lackluster. The waiter service is just so-so as well. But at least I get the sense that they're trying (unlike another mexican joint I recently reviewed). If you go to El Jardin, sit at the bar, grab a margarita, and order those fish tacos! I guarantee you'll have as good an experience as I do.

I found a cockroach in my food! The manager didn't even comp my meal after this horrific experience. I don't think I will ever be able to eat Mexican food again :(

The guac was putrid, the plates on the table were dirty, and I could have made better flautas at home. I felt sick the rest of the day after eating here. We did get comped for the bad guac (tasted like they doused it in lime juice to try to prevent it from spoiling) but I wouldn't wish this dining experience on anyone.

cant speak so much of their food, we only went to have drinks. frozen margaritas and mexican beer, can never go wrong with that, epseiclaly sitting outside and enjoying the summer night with the boyfriend =) although their chips and salsa is good. most of the restaurants at the glen have outdoor seating which i think is awesome. very nice atmosphere, i just wish they could have better lighting, or even candles at each outdoor table, it was a bit dark.

I went to El Jardin for a Friday night karaoke night and had a blast! Cuba Libres were strong, crowd was fun, and the service was good. The drinks are expensive but are probably considered average for the area.

Was here this past Sunday and I wish I never went. My husband and I orginally went here for a couple of margaritas maybe an app. and b/c they have outdoor seating. When we got there the restaurant was dead only one table outside was seated and a few inside. However, all the tables had a reserved sign on them that were outside. We inquired with the waiter if we could be seated at an outdoor table and were told we had to eat dinner. The tables were reserved dinner only. I've been to many bars/restraunts and pubs with outdoor seating/patios and never been told you had to eat dinner. Anyway, we decided to eat there. I wish we never did and here is why: I ordered their golden margarita plus very sxstrong minus not very tasty. My husband had the mango margarita VERY weak and flavorless. Guacamole probably only good thing we ate besides comp chips and salsa. However, menu says market price figured $5-7 most I' ve paid at mexican restaurants in the downtown, Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville area $8. When we got are bill $10 for a medium sized guac. I mean I think this place lost their mind! I know it said mp, don't they know avacados are in season just earlier that week at my local fruit market Ibought 3 medium avacados for $1 and I think I made more guac then they served. Anyways, to the food, ordered steak tacos and pan fried chicken dish (forgot the name but recommended by our waiter) tacos sub par at best. I can make better at home. Chicken absolutely horrible!! Dry and had a bad taste. I think the waiter recommeended the chicken b/c they were trying too get rid of it don't know, but definitely will NEVER come here again! Poorly managed bad food and drinks!

Really small Mexican restaurant in The Glen (aka Pleasantville). If you go there for your birthday, they'll bring out a big sombrero and sing a song in Spanish. Margaritas are fine. Food is fine. Nothing to get all excited about.

Michladas? Wow, talk about an interesting drink. Decent beer selection. Chips were thick and crunchy and the salsa was pretty good, too. Table setup accommodates large groups easily. I think the front door/windows can open up during the summer, too.

First, I have to say that the service was good here. Unfortunately, the food wasn't. The salsa was like tomato sauce, and the rest of my meal (enchilada and a chile relleno) was just...mush. It was as if it had been sitting in sauce for about an hour - which it hadn't, because it came out really fast. I thought when I left that if I ever lost al of my teeth, at least I would still be able to eat here, since I wouldn't need teeth to chew the food.

Just went today for lunch. Since I am from Wisconsin, we may not be back. The food was better than average, very tasty and seemed fresh. The chips and salsa seemed to be homemade and like I said, tasty. My sister had a salad with their house dressing, creamy avocado with garlic. Yum! I am not into mexican rice that much, but theirs was quite good. We arrived about 2-2:30 and it wasn't particularly busy at that time. Our entrees came quite promptly after we ordered. Food was a little on the pricey side overall, yes. I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita, which my sister thought was made with aged tequila. It was quite good, and had a much more distinctive flavor than many other margaritas I've had at "chain" Mexican restaurants. Decor/ambiance was OK. Overall, I would reccomend this place. I would go back except for the fact it is located so far from where I live.

I went there for the first time today with my 6 year old. They gave me a menu that included the childrens menu. I ordered tacos for my son and fajitas for myself. When the bill came the waiter charged me $14.95 for the childs tacos. I said I ordered the childs tacos he said no. He spoke very broken English. The "owner" at least thats what he called himself told me rudely that I had to pay $14.95. I said no I would only pay the childs price. He then told me I had to pay 50% of the $14.95. Again I told him I would only pay the childs price. He told me to get out and pay nothing and he never wanted to see my face again. Maybe when they should have confirmed my order with me or something but I never have orderd my son anything off of an adult menu. I have been in the restaurant business and service business most of my life and I can't believe how rude and unprofessional this man was. So the childs portion was approx $5 and he wanted me to pay $7.50. So this man lost a customer and the possiblility of future references for $2.50 and the entire cost of our meal which should have been over $30.00. I would definately not recommend them to anyone and if you have kids make sure you check and double check and verify that they understand that you are ordering off the kids menu or you will be treated like a criminal.

Terrible! I ordered the Steak and Shrimp Fajitas and ended up getting food poisoning. I was violently ill for two full day and was not able to eat. On the thrid day I am still on crackers and water. Absolutely horrible. Besides the food poisoning the decor was lousy and minimal and our waiter would not stop talking to us. Would not recommend unless you need a cleansing and a few day off of work. I was not able to give no starts so I had to give one.

This place is a pretty typical middle of the road Mexican restaurant. The food and drinks are ok, so is the service. Nothing special. I like Salsa 17 much more in Arlington Heights.

This really is not a good Mexican restaurant. The food quality is on par with the 24-hour Mexican restaurants all over the city. This restaurant is in a great location and it's fun to sit outside in the summertime on the patio. The margaritas are weak, tacos are weak, the chips are weak the salsa is weak. Without it being in such a prominent location this place would be out of business.

This was our first visit to El Jardin Norte with a WE DEAL coupon...& it may or may not be our last. The decor is very dingy and dark and not inviting. The crepe paper streamers, plastic flags and fake flowers cheapen it and no doubt harbor dust....this place could be so much more inviting with bright yellow paint and new lighting. On to the food, the salsa and chips are just wonderful! I had to ask for seconds and even wanted to buy some but our server appeared not to understand our request. I had the steak fajitas. Kind of pricey....they give you a base price of just vegetables and you add $2-4 depending on what kind of protein you want. Very odd pricing. My husband had the steak tacos and enjoyed them as well. Service was sketchy. The restaurant was half full and yet the service was slow. Overall, I enjoyed the meal but this restaurant in The Glen could be so much more.

This place is decent, way better than Mi Mexico (that is for sure!). I expected this place to be a little over the top because it's in the Glen and all the restaurants in the Glen exceed expectations. However, this place was very average. I ordered the carne asada, which was okay, but it came with minimal flavor, so I had to request habanero sauce. Also, the portion size of the rice/beans/pico de gallo is very very minimal. Usually you get an abundance of the sides, so it was weird to see a lot of Carne Asada left and no beans or rice. Unfortunately the heat wasn't working when we came in, so it was freeezing! All in all, I would only come back if someone was celebrating a birthday here.

I'm really surprised this place has gotten unfavorable reviews. I've been at least 10-15 times and the food was always great. Albeit, I normally order the same dish, Steak Fajitas. The Presidente margarita is my drink of choice here. Its delicious and they don't skimp on the liquor! The servers are always attentive and friendly as well (maybe because I frequent the place). I've also sang karaoke here, but I dont think the have it anymore (probably because of my horrible singing!). The atmosphere is casual and comfortable and I would recommend it.

Sometimes, you just have to throw caution to the wind. I know this place doesn't get great reviews, but I have to say, I've eaten here twice during business trips, and I don't think I've ever had better Carne Asada anywhere!! Is it overpriced? Yes. Is the wait staff a bit aloof? Yes. But, the Carne Asada rocks and big enough to feed two. Plus, Glenview is a cool area to walk around and you can sit outside and people-watch while you eat. I haven't ordered anything but the Carne Asada on my two visits, aside from Guacamole which was good, but I'm a believer. Good luck!

We went to El Jardin when the Glen was first built, and it's taken that many years to forget how bad it was, which is why we made the mistake of going back again tonight. If you go I suggest you drink several margaritas, because only when you're half in the bag will you not care about the WAY overpriced food that doesn't even measure up to Burrito House for taste or quality. $32 for three skimpy enchiladas and a cold burrito filled mostly with iceberg lettuce is Glen-worthy. We had about 4 waiters and 2 busboys taking care of our table and it was still the worst, slowest, most forgetful service we've experienced in a long time. One of the above 2 stars is for the salsa, the only redeeming part of the evening. If you're looking for a decent meal in the Glen, try the new Curragh Irish pub across the street.

It's about time this dump of a restaurant closed. it seemed the owner Larry Ruiz didn't give a shit about his own business and ran it into the ground. Same thing is going to happen in Lake Zurich the way he's running things. His arrogance has finally caught up with him.

Everytime I have been, the service has been slow and the servers have been rude. The food isn't anything special either but you'll end up spending almost $20 without even ordering a drink. I don't think I will ever go back for another meal.

Is El Jardin run by Denny's? After an afternoon of shopping, we decided to stop at El Jardin for a drink and an appetizer. The restaurant wasn't crowded, only three people in the whole place. We walked to the bar, sat down and the bartender says "can I get you something to drink?" I reply "water." (It was 90 degrees outside; water is usually standard. Didn't give us a water.) Asked to see a menu. After a few minutes of perusing the menu and deciding what to order, I again asked the bartender for a water . The bartender looked at us, walked away and didn't come back!!!! Well censor #!!!!!#$#$% that!!!! We left and went next door to Ted's Montana Grill. Upon entering Ted's Montana Grill we received a nice greeting, good service and water. By the way, Ted's serves a really, really good strawberry margarita! Skip El Jardin. Based on the other reviews, I'm glad we walked out. This place is really on the skids. We had dined here a few years ago and at the time the place was o.k.. This is no way to run a restaurant, I can see why the place was empty.

I had a nice lunch here with my mom after scoring BIG TIME on a Craigs List find. I had the taco salad, it was nicely layered with crisp lettuce, in season veggies and seasoned ground beef. It was filling but not overly so. The prices are a little high for Mexican fare...

Way too over priced for their food and drinks. They charge you extra for salsa...that's laughable. Taco Bell has more flavor in their tacos than their steak tacos. Service was horrific. It wasn't nearly busy and we rarely ever saw them.

Brea K.
This place epitomizes the word "meh" which only means that when it comes to Mexican food, this place is horrific. I knew it would be the moment I sat down and read; "first round of chips complimentary ONLY" next to the listing for the taco plate, which was listed at $16.99. Immediate fail. This better be a DAMN GOOD Mexican restaurant to charge me $17 for tacos and in addition to chips. Sadly, it wasn't. The food was flavorless and the service was mediocre. I've been to hundreds, maybe even a thousand different mexican restaurants and I would say that this place is a top 10 disappointment.

Bad, bad, bad. Made the mistake of going to El Jardin with my family of five and couldn't have been more dissapointed. Service was so-so, but the food was generic and a notch (maybe) above Taco Bell. We ordered a couple different dishes, but the tell-tale sign of a bad mexican joint is bad, dry, tasteless tacos and El Jardin's tacos are just that. The worst part is that the tacos screamed "we don't care about quality here because these suburban idiots will pay us ridiculous amounts of money for mediocre to bad food." On that note, the prices were, in fact, ridiculous, especially for this cafeteria-style Mexican food. Unfortunately there aren't many great choices for Mexican food in the Glenview area, but DO NOT, get suckered into this high-priced disaster unless you're looking for a place to order some chips and salsa and get drunk on margaritas- that is somethng El Jardin can actually deliver on.

Don't bother. Went for a Sunday night date. Granted the day after cinco de mayo, but to me the place seemed dirty and disorganized. Sat at the bar, bar tender was new guy and had to ask about everything. Willing to cut him slack for that, but not fun to endure. Prices were lacking - as in how much is this, how much is that, and no one seemed sure. Prices were not the only thing lacking, food was too. Split the fajita dinner burrito and that was nothing to write home about. blah blah blah Gold margarita special was not special at all, a watery concoction in a pitcher under the bar. Tried the beer margarita too and that was a bust. The only thing somewhat decent were the jalepeno poppers, not bad. Overall, found myself regretting my choice and wished we had parked elsewhere. Sorry Jardin, won't be back

We've tried El Jardin several times over the years, and usually become reminded why we hadn't been back for so long. The one positive thing I can say is that the atmosphere is pretty nice, so if you want to sit down and have a margarita or two with friends, it can be nice. When they first opened years ago, I think it was better. Recent experiences were highlighted by awful guacamole that tasted like it was made days ago--no exaggeration. I'm just not sure how this place is able to stay in business given the better alternatives.

El Jardin we had to give you a star to comment but really it's sad to see a Mexican eatery that could be so filled with Joy and become a fun destination on the glen be a total downer. Your food prices are far too high for the quality that is served The margarita rumor of grain alcohol still exists. But bottom line main stream and focus on carry outs too your dining area is too small for large groups but really your over charging for sub par food. No different from lalos and their microwave food no salamander etc

What can I say? I'm very disappointed with El Jardin. I was visiting Chicago and was excited to find out that there was a Mexican Restaurant at the Glen Town Center. Shredded Beef Crispy Tacos sounded really good since it was a staple for me in California. Upon seeing their menu, I discovered that they do not offer shredded beef. I asked the server if they offered crispy tacos, the server said I could have my tacos any way I want, sweet! My husband and I ordered the combination $10.95 plate each which gives you a choice of three things. I ordered 2 Crispy Steak Tacos and Chorizo Burrito. My husband ordered 2 Beef Chimichangas and 1 Chicken Taco. Note that they have an up charge for steak of $1.50 per item. They will charge you an extra $1.00 for chicken breast but no extra charge for dark meat according to their menu. Sounds fair... When my order came, I was very disappointed with my taco shells. They were not fresh-they were obviously store bought shells. The shells were too perfectly shaped and smooth. It did not taste good. What really annoyed me was when I asked the server if the shells were store bought, he denied it! We asked for a refill of chips and I used the chips instead of the taco shell. Then we found out the chips which was this restaurant's saving grace DO NOT COME FREE unlike chips at any normal Mexican restaurants. Then we got the bill. My husband did not want me to put up a fuss because the over charge was minimal, but I was irked because it wasn't the amount, it's the principal. I asked the server why the "Espesyal" was $4.50, he said it was for the steak up charge, which should only be $3.00. Maybe they charge you for cheese too?! My husband did not order chicken breast so let's just pretend that he did to call it semi-quits. Upon inspecting the bill again after we left, I realized that they did not only over charge for the "espesyal" they over charged us for one of our plates which should have only been $10.95 instead it was a charge of $13.95. Again, the amount is minimal but it's the principal. We don't mind spending a lot on great food, great service and awesome atmosphere. Although this restaurant is inexpensive, do yourself a favor, spend your money elsewhere, don't waste your money on them. Their food is mediocre at best, service was slow on a Wednesday night even though only 4 tables were occupied. I therefore conclude that this restaurant is no bueno. Diners beware of up charges on your bill. If Yelp had zero stars, I would rate it a zero based on experience. The one star is for the chips.

A friend and I just had lunch there. There were maybe five other tables filled and it took almost 35 minutes to get our food. It took three requests to get more napkins and ice tea refill. I ordered a taco salad and all I got was a shell full of iceberg lettuce and not much else. My friend ordered a burrito and it did come out hot and steamy. My review is more on the lack of service than the food. Had been there in the past and liked it. Will not be going back soon.

Been to El Jardin previously and it was an ok experience. Bought the Groupon for it which expired prior to me using it though I remember calling one day to make a reservation while it was still valid (as you have to call ahead and let them know you have a Groupon) and was told I couldn't use it that night since their Groupon quota was already reached for one evening. Keep in mind you could only use this Groupon on a Friday or Saturday. Anyways - we finally made it back out and I felt it was very pricey (typical entrees are no less than $14/$15 and up to $20+). Margaritas are anywhere from $7-$15 I think. Guacamole appetizer is "Market Price" (I didn't realize there was a seasonal/market price for guacamole). I asked how much and was told $9-$10. Again, a bit pricey. That said, they had some specials which were cheaper (Tamales for $2.50 each) so I ordered three and a side of rice and beans which was extra. Honestly was a little better than I expected. My girlfriend had steak quesadillas which were really good actually. Service once we were seated was pretty good actually. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. I was a little annoyed that we made a reservation and when we showed up at the exact time of our reservation were told we had to wait for a table to open up. There was actually a 4 seat table reserved which remained open the entire time we waited which they ended up seating us at anyways so not sure why we had to wait. All in all, I felt it was a better than expected experience but my expectations were not very high to begin with. I would go back again assuming I had some kind of coupon/deal to lower the cost a bit.

I've been to El Jardin's several times and last night was the worst experience we've had. A bunch of old high school friends met there to celebrate our friend visiting town. To our shock, the waiter switched out on us before we even ordered, leaving us with another waiter. The servers continously changed. It was very odd. The food was mediocre. At the end of the meal, we handed the waiter our credit cards and asked him to split the bill. The waiter said that he couldn't take several credit cards and could only split the bill with three of the cards (there were six of us there). We asked to talk to the manager who came to our table and NOW told us that they could only accept TWO credit cards. He then directed our table to go remove cash at the ATM, which charges a significant service fee in addition to a bank charge. The manager kept repeating that he is not to blame but the owner is to blame. He told me that I should write in to the owner if I don't like the policy. In today's day and age, it is ridiculous that this restaurant and owner would enforce such idiotic policies. It seems like quite the scam the restaurant has going, forcing people to withdraw cash from their ATM machine, in which EL Jardin also makes a fee. There are better Mexican restaurants around the area to visit that enfoce customer service. Prior to writing this review, I saw that other people also recently wrote about similar experiences at El Jardin. Bad reviews ultimately catch up with a business.

I'd give this place ZERO stars if I could............ NEVER GO HERE!!!! The owner (or is he the manager) couldn't be RUDER!!!!! I went with friends for my birthday. I mean, we could've picked any place to go, but picked this place. We got there on the early side because we wanted an outdoor table. They said there would be a wait, I kiddingly said to this A$$hole manager, "Hey, it's my birthday today! Can't you see if we could get a table a little quicker?". Most professional people would've at least smiled and said, "Happy birthday! I'll see what we can do" even if there was nothing they could do. This guy says, "uh, whatever...it's a 45 min wait". Strike one. We get to our table, eventually, and our waitress gives us major attitude. Not to mention she's barely there to ck on us! Oh, and btw, at first, A$$hole manager wasn't' gonna give my friend and I a 4 top outside - because it was just the 2 of us. EVEN THOUGH I made it clear that we'd have more people joining us in a bit. Oh, and they ONLY had 4 tops....so I guess he wasn't planning on sitting us outside to begin with. Anyway...eventually our other friends arrive. Again, the bad waitress never came buy. So my friends had to GO TO THE BAR to get their drinks! Strike two. Now, the killer....we were STILL DRINKING at our outside table. We were laughing, having a great time...and if you can believe A$$hole manager comes over to us and says, "It's time for you to leave. You're done and we need this table". Uh, we were NOT done, we were still drinking, and WHERE HAVE YOU EVER BEEN THAT A MANAGER TELLS YOU TO LEAVE BECAUSE YOU HAD STAYED TOO LONG AND THEY NEEDED THE TABLE?!?! And that was a lie - there were 2 empty tables next to us and it was 10:30pm!!!!!! WE COULDN'T believe it! And just so you know, we were NOT being loud and obnoxious - not in the slightest. Strike three - I'm done with that place! Now, at that point we we SO uncomfortable, we decided to just leave and go across the street to Flight. We had a fabulous waiter there. We told him what had happened to us at El Sucko and he said they'd heard it before about that place! AND - the people at Flight not only gave me a FREE birthday martini, they gave me a free dessert because they didn't want my birthday to be ruined! Love FLIGHT!! (And BTW, DO GO TO FLIGHT! :) ) Again, regarding El Sucko, unless they get a new manager, or whatever the hell he is, DON'T go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, oh, did I mention the owner/manager guy is a first grade A$$hole ;)

Went here a week ago. Not bad if it's your only option for Mexican (as in your stuck at the Glen). Most things we had were salty (guacamole, fish tacos) except for the steak & shrimp fajitas which was bland and mostly vegetables. The rice was a little strange flavored and had no texture. The margaritas were good (I had 2 different kinds). Our service was good, it wasn't busy & on a Sunday night if I remember correctly. I wouldn't make it a destination for the food but as a place to hang out, have a drink and a snack it would suffice...

There's no denying the following but it does seem the negative reviews r over the top. I've never spoken to the manager/owner though. Cons Slow service Lame chips n salsa Expensive Pros Yummy entrees Great liquor selection Friendly servers

Worst FAKE Mexican food ever!!! The poor waiter, he tried. When we asked for suggestions, I could tell the poor guy was nervous...found out why when our food arrived! The Glen food places aren't great, this place though is horrible. All of the previous reviewers were right, I should have looked the place up before going in!!! If you are in the Glen, better head down to Dominick's and get a can of refried beans before you eat at El Jardin. The food we got was so 'tv dinner' it was a joke.

I was sick after eating here... Food, vegetables...very greesy. Overpriced for what you get. I couldn't have the rice/ beans, cheese or sour cream due to dietary restrictions. I asked the waiter if he could sub extra guacamole. He said yes. He brought me a little tiny plastic cup of guacamole. I said there were 3 sides I couldn't get and could I get a little more guacamole? He said no. The only good food were the chips and salsa. To many other really good Mexican restaurants. Don't waste your money on this one.

Oh boy, El Jardin just completely lost my business and I will never be setting foot in that restaurant as long as I live. They never had particularly amazing food, but we would go to get the fajitas for 2 deal. It was $21.95 and pretty decent fajitas. We liked to go in the summer so we could sit outside. We hadn't been there since the fall, and when we got there today we were told that they no longer served the fajitas for 2 option. Great. We weren't happy about that to begin with. Then my mom ordered the fajitas and asked for black beans instead and the waitress said "ok, instead of rice?" We were confused. You apparently no longer get rice AND beans, you get one or the other. Way to cheap out. The fajitas cost $15.95. The waitress lectured us that the manager was sick of wasting because so many times the beans or rice came back untouched. Um, I always ate my beans and rice...they only ever gave you a small dish of them anyways. Plus, beans and rice are standard at a Mexican restaurant. I decided to get a burrito (also $15.95) and it was basically inedible. All mush on the inside and barely any chicken or veggies (which is surprising for a chicken fajita burrito). To top it all off, my mom ordered an iced tea and said it tasted like dirty bath water. Oh boy, goodbye, El Jardin. And we wondered why your restaurant was empty when the surrounding restaurants were packed. Now we know!!

Don't order a daily special with your groupon. Turns out it doesn't apply? Not really worth the price. Just regular food with regular service. Definitely nothing to write home about. Next time run to RA Sushi.

As a HUGE Mexican food fanatic, I can only imagine that the reviews below claiming this to be "the best Mexican Food EVER!!!1!!" have to be planted by people who work here. Their food is utterly forgettable, their service is crap, the Margaritas are a resounding "meh". The only reason I don't give one star is that the place is clean. This place also suffers from the intolerable affliction as nearly all other restaurants in the Glenn: unattended, screaming children and indifferent parents. There are numerous options for Mexican food within a 5 mile radius. Don't waste your time here.

So delicious! Especially the carne asada and enchiladas! Great margaritas and fun and friendly staff :)

The worst dining experience I've had in recent memory. Visited at 8 p.m. with a group of seven. The service was poor, and the busboy ended up being more attentive than our waiter, who magically disappeared for long stretches throughout the meal. The pricing at the restaurant is absolutely outrageous, and not in line with any other mexican restaurants I've ever been too. For the price, the food should have been spectacular. However, it was bland, and came out lukewarm at best. Our table was also refilled with chips without asking, yet when the bill came at the end of the meal, we were charged twice for "chip refill" despite never ordering them. Finally, when we asked for separate checks we were denied rudely, making the process extremely irritating and complicated. Also, the restaurant adds 20% gratuity automatically on parties of 6 or more, despite the horrendous service and rude staff. With terrible/rude service, unbelievably high prices and shady charges and inconvenient payment methods, El Jardin was one of, if not the worst dining experience I've ever had. Don't go here. Period.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

(1)Rich M.
The food and service always seem ok but nothing great. I really can't find a good place to eat in the Glen:(
(3)Kelly W.
love love LOVE! it's one of our favorite places to go to on date nights. We've been going for the past 3.5 years and have never. ever had a bad experience :)
(5)Grace G.
(4)Daniel A.

(3)Gail S.
(2)Matt S.
(2)Katy W.
Great margaritas, and fantastic food. We've always had great service, been coming here for a while. Best Mexican I've found in the area!
(4)Emma J.
(1)Angie F.
(1)Stephen R.
This is really for the food. its OK..the service is good and very attentive but they are just victim of a bad kitchen. Good for drink and hanging at the bar, but the food is really not that great. sorry
(2)Kelly B.
we love El Jardin - great food - great service
(5)Jelena V.
(1)Michelle H.
(1)Tom A.
(4)Dave S.
(5)SY P.
(1)Rick R.
(1)Dave G.
Food is average. Service is not good. Management wants to rush you out the door. I was not impressed at all and will not be going back. If you want customers then you need to treat them right. Others in our neighborhood have had the same experience. There are other Mexican places in Glenview and the surrounding areas that are significantly better.
(2)E S.
(4)Kristin S.
(2)Elliott D.
(3)willma g.
(2)Karen C.
Bummer. Left the place hungry, disappointed, and sure that I will NEVER go back
(1)Nick G.
(3)Erick M.
While the chips and salsa were well below average, the fajitas were fantastic. Also, the service was very friendly.
(3)Allison B.
(5)Chris W.
Go on now! Explore!!
(4)Otto A.
(4)Mr. M.
(5)Matthew M.
(1)erica s.

(2)Melissa G.
Nothing special. Food is ok and service is poor. You would be better off at Chipotle!
(2)Jane K.
(3)Isabel C.
This place has terrible food for the price, and the drinks are expensive. Even the salsa is not good. I read the reviews and wonder why anyone eats there! Ok place to sit in the sun outside for an expensive drink, that's it. You can do better.
(1)Kathy R.
(3)Shaun S.
(4)Juan M.
(3)Giselle S.

(1)Elyse C.
(3)Sheila X.
(3)Happy M.
(1)Martin M.
Amazing food. Try the carne asada. Very good n friendly service. Great atmosphere with outdoor seating. Love this place, and come here a lot.
(5)Alan R.
(4)Aria S.
(2)Sam S.
Very average food and poor service, not recommended if you like authentic Mexican. Two errors on our order and the server could have cared less. We won't be back. Also very expensive for Mexican. It is in the high rent district after all. Strawberry Margarita's were good though, but expensive. Overall, not recommended.
(1)A K.
I agree with the comments regarding the lousy attitude of the general manager and the food is only fair. Don Juan's in Park Ridge is a much better choice.
(1)Alan B.
(3)Lefai K.
Squat.
(3)Erin B.
(2)Josh P.
(1)Ami S.
The margaritas are good but the food could be better. I don't eat meat so I ordered their combo. I picked 3 bean burritos. They came with nothing but beans and the tortilla...no lettuce no Cheese, NOTHING. Disappointing.
(2)Ben E.
(2)Steve K.
Wife & i ate there last night. Service was good, food was not so good & prices were fair for portion size. The seasoning on the steak fajitas was bland at best and the salsa was below average. we used to love the one on Clark in Chicago.
(2)Victoria h.
(3)Isabela M.
Love the outdoor seating here. Great for happy hours or just come hang before a night out
(4)Joseph S.
(1)Sherry R.
Margaritas are good...food is mediocre. Service was nowhere to be found. Carne asada was tasteless and lukewarm.
(1)Sara S.
Ha!
(4)George H.
(2)Eric O.
I'm really surprised by the most recent reviews of this restaurant, because my wife and I love this place. We feel the food and drinks are some of the best Mexican around. Hence why we go back so often. The margaritas are strong and the salsa is tasty.
(4)Brad F.
I love mexican food, and this place was fantastic. Their chips, guacamole, and salsa, were addicting!!!! I had a chicken burrito and it just hit the spot. I wish I lived closer to the glen to come around here more.
(4)Gary F.
(1)Patricia K.
(3)Laura V.
(4)Jennifer A.
I found a cockroach in my food! The manager didn't even comp my meal after this horrific experience. I don't think I will ever be able to eat Mexican food again :(
(1)Lauren G.
(1)Jinhee S.
cant speak so much of their food, we only went to have drinks. frozen margaritas and mexican beer, can never go wrong with that, epseiclaly sitting outside and enjoying the summer night with the boyfriend =) although their chips and salsa is good. most of the restaurants at the glen have outdoor seating which i think is awesome. very nice atmosphere, i just wish they could have better lighting, or even candles at each outdoor table, it was a bit dark.
(5)Wesley B.
I went to El Jardin for a Friday night karaoke night and had a blast! Cuba Libres were strong, crowd was fun, and the service was good. The drinks are expensive but are probably considered average for the area.
(4)Lisa L.
(1)Lauren D.
Really small Mexican restaurant in The Glen (aka Pleasantville). If you go there for your birthday, they'll bring out a big sombrero and sing a song in Spanish. Margaritas are fine. Food is fine. Nothing to get all excited about.
(2)Bruce N.
Average Mexican food, but ass-kicking (though expensive) Margaritas. Have 2- a serious buzz.. have a 3rd and call a cab.
(3)David B.
Michladas? Wow, talk about an interesting drink. Decent beer selection. Chips were thick and crunchy and the salsa was pretty good, too. Table setup accommodates large groups easily. I think the front door/windows can open up during the summer, too.
(3)Rebecca C.
(2)J B.
(4)Sheri C.
(1)Tina M.
(1)Kate P.
This place is a pretty typical middle of the road Mexican restaurant. The food and drinks are ok, so is the service. Nothing special. I like Salsa 17 much more in Arlington Heights.
(3)Mr H.
(2)Susan C.
(3)Amy S.
(3)Venesia S.
(4)S W.
Good luck!
(4)Dave G.
(2)Steve R.
It's about time this dump of a restaurant closed. it seemed the owner Larry Ruiz didn't give a shit about his own business and ran it into the ground. Same thing is going to happen in Lake Zurich the way he's running things. His arrogance has finally caught up with him.
(1)Tara G.
Everytime I have been, the service has been slow and the servers have been rude. The food isn't anything special either but you'll end up spending almost $20 without even ordering a drink. I don't think I will ever go back for another meal.
(1)Sue M.

Margaritas were great but food was lousy. Not worth the money. The service was good but it can't make up for the crappy food.

Period.
