My uncle took us there on a Sunday. They open at 5pm but we were already there at 4:50pm. They kindly let us in and we sat at the sushi bar. 6 of us had the chef's choice sushi bar menu (mystery menu). I grew-up eating traditional Japanese food so I wasn't worried. We had beautiful small dishes made just for the 6 of us: raw octopus, squid, fatty tuna (toro), deep fried fatty tuna, all sorts of sashimi, sea urchin (uni)..sashimi salad. Presentation was great so was the quality of food. A big bottle of premium sake (720ml not on the regular sake menu) was opened for us as well. We were all so stuffed and had to call it quits after 7 dishes and dessert. Our bill with tax and 25% tip was less than $60 per person. Very small/tight restaurant that has about 6-8 hibachi grills, 6 seating sushi bar, and about 10 regular tables. The place was packed by 6pm (they opened at 5pm on Sunday). I would suggest you get there right before they open so you don't have to wait too long. Don't judge the restaurant by it's looks outside/inside. The quality of sushi/sashimi beats most fancy, overpriced Japanese restaurant. Don't sit at the sushi bar if you plan to order from the menu.

While I did check the yelp rating before deciding on JuRin for a sushi dinner on a Friday night, I didn't read reviews or look at photos because I've heard so many recommendations of this place. Unfortunately, I really do not understand the hype. At all. The interior is dark and dingy. With unattractive flourescent lighting, they choose to not use them at all, making it very dark inside. My dad used the flashlight on his iPhone to be able to read the menu. Another annoying ambiance note: The constant noise! There was clapping for a birthday going on for the first couple of minutes, which completely stopped the entire restaurant, and then the hibachi chef was smacking utensils together for the next half hour. Each time it just interrupted our tables conversation and it was obnoxious! Talk about ruining the ambiance of a nice night out. Although, can you really expect a nice dining experience from a place with writing all over the walls of the entrance? Yes, folks, I mean people took sharpies to those walls. The menu: unorganized. It was overwhelming! They have sushi rolls listed with prices and no description in their regular menu. Then they had an additional laminated menu just of their specialty sushi, without prices, and with photos of the rolls but not by that roll on the menu... I was actually overwhelmed and frustrated. Then our plates were dirty. The sushi was fine, though everything on their specialty menu seemed to be either fried or spicy or both. We like fresh sushi. Long story short: There are much better sushi places nearby, with a better variety of rolls and providing very fresh fish and a better ambiance to enjoy your meal. Skip this place.

I discovered this hidden gem a few years ago and have been going back regularly ever since. I have never done the hibachi here because I come specifically for their sushi. The rolls are all very reasonably priced, especially for the excellent quality that you receive. I've never had bad or slow service here- they are always very fast and attentive. The only reason I did not give it 5-stars is because the interior of the restaurant isn't the most appealing. While it is comfortable, it is not at all modern. I highly recommend ditching the pricier places in the Geneva/Batavia area and trying out JuRin!

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday yesterday and I never felt so happy. Considering it was my first time at the restaurant, I don't know if the service and food were on point because it was my birthday or if they're normally on point. Nonetheless, my first time was amazing. We sat at the bar and the food was Gucci (goooood). At most restaurants, they serve really cold sushi but it was quite warm and tasty here. And the chef was super nice and funny. The waiters were also very efficient. I would ask for something and BAM someone comes and brings it before I get a chance to even blink. They gave me a rose in the beginning and put it in a little cute vase right next to my meal. Towards the end, all the waiters and workers at the restaurant sang me a cute happy birthday song. Haha perfect sushi place for a date night I would say.

My friend and I went here last night. I got the caterpillar roll and it was fantastic! The waiter was really sweet to us and kept asking us if we were satisfied and such. My friend is a regular here and didn't oversell the place at all. I definitely will be returning here, this place is great!

I visit this place quite frequently and I have to say it never changes. I love getting the sushi from here, although I have yet to try the hibachi. My favorite roll I always order when coming is the Hana Flower roll. It always comes nicely presented and looks pretty to eat. They are decently busy and I would definitely recommend a reservation for the weekends though if you have a large party. but coming in by myself i have no trouble getting a seat. They are fast and efficient when bringing food to your table. I would recommend this place to everyone even if your not the biggest fan of fish, at least give this place a try.

Birthdays at JuRin are the best! You get Happy Birthday sang to you! The food is outstanding and they cook it right in front of you, one of the best places to eat!

I am craving sushi and its lent...so heck why not search on yelp for the local Sushi joint near work. I am going to disagree with the average yelp rating for this place. I don't quite get it. Maybe I was majorly put off by the cardboard across the 3 windows in the front. I kept thinking has this place closed down, been in a recent shooting, or has there been an earthquake that shattered their windows?!? The interior was just as grimy. Don't get me wrong...I love little hole in the wall restaurants with delicious food...that's what's so great about the city of Chicago. But this is Geneva, a well-to-do suburb and this restaurant has a very Japanese name and it felt nothing like Zen. The service was good but I do not think my hispanic server spoke much English. When I mentioned that my maki roll did not have one of the ingredients listed, he quickly got the host. He never really even spoke to me...just handed me the menu. The sushi was average. Nothing to write home about

This is average sushi. Small place. Humorous waiter. Small and messy maki. Fast service. Got a bad soft shell crab (by bad, I mean smelled not fresh--at all). In contrast, their sashimi (tunas and salmon) was very fresh. I noticed they do have toro. Feels neighbor-hoody which I like. Seems to have a loyal following. In the hour-1/2 we were there, we witnessed 4 birthday songs performed by the staff. The first was cute, but each of the other 3 reiterated how invasive they are in context to dinner. Overall, an average experience. Prices are a tad below what you'd expect. Maybe that's not a good thing. If it was my neighborhood, I'd likely return, but wouldn't call myself a regular.

This place is a lot of fun for families and the food is pretty tasty as well. You'll definitely want to make a reservation for the hibachi grill and enjoy the show. The entire staff is friendly and the grill chefs are expert showmen. I had the chicken and steak combo which was good. Not the best chicken or steak I've ever had, but mixed with the veggies and fried rice, and cold Kirin beer, I had a really good time. I was with kids and a senior as well, and they all had a good time too. For those commenting on the noise level, it is definitely not a place for a romantic dinner, since the atmosphere is designed to be lively and upbeat. However, there were no "screaming children," so there was no "annoyance factor" as far as I'm concerned.

We have always enjoyed our dinners there. Great sushi. Cheerful, attentive staff. My husband was feeling adventurous and asked for the chef to "surprise him" when he couldn't decide on what else he wanted. He loved the unique rolls that they made for him!

The sushi is delicious! We ordered four rolls for takeout and it was really tasty and fresh. The gyoza was great also. We also ordered Edamame, which was good. I can't wait to go back and dine in the restaurant. Go give them a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!!

One of our favorite local sushi places to go to. Good selection, good food, reasonable prices, family-friendly atmosphere. they can get pretty busy at peak times, so we try to avoid that if possible. Sushi is always delivered to the table quickly.

This place has the best quality of fish around. I've tried just about everywhere locally and this has always remained my go to place. I'm talking around 10 years now. I never understood the people that bad mouth the quality of food here. I'm not a person that sits at the grills or tables and orders a bunch of rolls though. I'm at the sushi bar getting served an awesome meal full of fish! Maybe that's why I have always had such a great experience..

Normally when i go for dinner i am very pleased with the show and food. However today was very different during lunch. The cook didnt portion the food out enough for everyone so some. People were left without certain foods that were told they were going to get. I was only given half the food i ordered, and to top it off one of our other party members food was forgotten. Someone had to be called at the end to bring and prepare the steak which should have been done worh the rest of the food. The food that was given was also over cooked. I was hoping for a nice show and food. Instead were sitting here waiting on food wed never get. Very unsatisfied and will not be returning for lunch again.

So for a long time, one of my coworkers had a calendar from this place on his cube wall and I would stand there, probably like 4 times a day, and contemplate nibbling the calendar because everything looked so yummy. Yes, I know, stock photography, but still. So last night we were out on a wander and since most of the other places nearby were packed to the point that we would probably have wasted away to nothing before we would be seated, we came here. And I was super excited. Even though we still had to wait for a while. Visions of nibbling on calendars danced through my head while our table became open. And then. Maybe it was an off-night - I think there needs to be a further expedition here to see if that is the case. We ordered 4 rolls and initially 5 were brought out - still not sure what that 5th one was but the server took it back. So when we started on the rolls, it was determined that while the fish itself was not bad, the rice seemed to be off, maybe a bit old, and it threw everything off from that standpoint. It also seems like everything was warm or if not warm, then not quite as cold as it should have been. Not sure if they made everything and it sat there and that also caused it to be a bit off but it could have been better. Of the four we had, the tempura shrimp roll and the Philadelphia rolls were probably the better items. In fact, had the Philadelphia roll been a little colder, I'd rank it up there as one of the best ones I've had before. We also tried a few different kinds of nigiri and the rice was still a little stale-feeling but, again, the fish was pretty good. The amount of food for the price was actually quite reasonable - plenty of other places, we'd easily have spent 50% more for the same amount of food. So somewhere to try again - maybe there were too many birthday parties that night and maybe they were short-handed. Not sure but it definitely seemed like an off-night.

JuRin is absolutely fabulous! The fresh ginger dressing over romaine and shaved carrots is simple yet delectable. The scallops prepared just as they should be( savory and sweet) the sashimi is always fresh and buttery at this place. Ahh.. JuRIn.

First time here last night with friends...a group of four. We sat at the hibachi grill table. There was another group at the table with us, they had five people in their party and that filled the whole table. So I would say no more then nine people at a grill unless you want to be uncomfortable. The hibachi experience was fun! The chefs are pretty comical and are all about giving you a show. They make trains with steam and even cho cho noises out of onions, and at the end fling little pieces of shrimp at you while you try and catch it in your mouth. I swear when we were there, there were at least five birthdays celebrated so they were constantly clapping and singing happy birthday to customers in English AND Japanese....it was actually fun though because you can also get into it and start clapping and saying "iey iey iey" (haha something like that) Food is amazing and the sushi rolls were pretty great too. I recommend this place as a fun date night or even with the family. TIP-If you want a hibachi table especially on a Saturday night MAKE A RESERVATION!

I have only ever gotten food to-go from this location, but is always been a good experience. During Lent we usually get sushi on Fridays and we've never been disappointed with Ju Rin. They are very fast, but the quality never suffers. The prices are very fair as well.

Very disappointed with our visit. They recommend reservations, so we made some for 5pm (opening time according to their website an on the door). They actually opened 1/2 hour earlier and every table was full. 20 minutes ago we were told we'd be seated "right away". A quick scan of the tables shows that nobody is close to wrapping up. Still waiting, but for now stay away from these guys

Just went here on a whim for a birthday lunch. Enjoyed the maki combination lunch special; among the three of us, we got all nine rolls and shared them, plus soup and salad. When they heard it was my birthday, they went all out. Very friendly staff, good service, great lunch.

Highly recommended. If you love sushi, Jurin is consistently outstanding. We've been going to Jurin in Geneva for over ten years (probably 60 visits) and always have a wonderful experience. When the kids were little Jurin was the place we went for every birthday to sit around the cooking table for delicious Teppan style Japanese food. Now we go mainly to sit at the sushi bar and order our favorites: salmon, tuna, octopus, super white, scallops, and crunchy tempura shrimp roll. I've also become a real fan of natto on rice. Warning: natto is an acquired tasted for the adventurous. First experience will definitely be unlike anything you've ever tried before. I've really grown to like natto on rice. The staff at Jurin is always happy, attentive and eager to please. I love this place.

Five stars? You gota be kidding me. The sukiyaki is good but just the same as I have had at other Japanese restaurants. The same is true for the hibachi grill items. Perhaps people think the sushi is to die for or something. I can't comment on the sushi because I don't like anything that swims. I'm glad other people like it though and don't mean to rain on their parade.

Jurin is a fantastic sushi restaurant. It is the best sushi for the price in the suburbs in my opinion. Everything is fresh, delicious, and very well-prepared. The staff are magnificent, especially my favorite server, Keith, who always goes out of his way for us. They are great to us about the service dog, which not every restaurant is. We are as attentively served when the place is packed as we are when we are the only ones there (which is rare because it's such a good place that it is usually well-occupied). This is our go-to sushi place, because it's excellent food for a reasonable price. You will really love it. Everything we have had there has been good, and we've been there many times over the last 4 or so years. The only place I like better for sushi in the suburbs is Swordfish in Batavia (which is considerably more expensive and not quite as friendly); the only place in the city I think is better is Ai, which also comes with a hefty price tag. If you want excellent sushi for a reasonable price near Geneva, you must try this restaurant. I suggest going a little off-peak timewise as they are packed out if you go during peak hours. I believe you can get a reservation if it is needed though.

The Habachi grill part is the bomb!!! I have been taking my two boys every year for their birthdays and the place is always clean and friendly. Great family fun and more than generous portions. They do a birthday certificate that is good for a free meal on your next birthday! The kids love the Japanese soda that comes in a unique bottle. We highly recommend! The staff are very friendly and accommodating and they also sing an awkward birthday song. :)

We just moved to Geneva from Chicago and Jurin was repeatedly mentioned as a spot to try for Japanese. We brought our 3 young children for my husband's birthday and sat at a Hibachi cooking table. The service is exceptional. As a family we look for places that are kid friendly without having a cheesy circus atmosphere. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel special - especially the kids. They were kindly attended to and engaged in the hibachi experience. There wasn't a peep out of them. That said, the food is exceptional. The sushi (from a previous visit) is fresh and the pieces are large. This visit, we had the filet and shrimp dinner and scallop hibachi dinner and the amount of food was enough to feed our family of 5 - and reasonably priced. I cannot say enough about the staff and food at Jurin. I'm sure we'll be frequent flyers here. Big fans!

Love the JuRin sushi. Fresh, delicious and reasonable. We have probably eaten here (and at the other location) at least two dozen times, and just realized that we have never reviewed them. JuRin is a neighborhood place, nothing fancy, that you can always depend on (7 nights a week) for great service, and a nice healthy meal. It is no surprised that they are as successful as they are. Whether it's for teppan or sushi, you really can't go wrong with JuRin.

Been going here for 5+ years. Started out when i went for my birthday...then kept going. LOVE IT! i go every year on my birthday. the sushi is great, and i LOVE the cooking tables...it is always fun to go! The service is always fast and friendly (unless you go on a weekend or something and it is CRAZY crowded and busy...then it may take a minute or two longer...but TOTALLY worth it! It's busy, because...WHY ELSE! POPULAR! Don't let the packed crowd deter you from eating here!) If you go for your birthday, as a "present" they not only sing to you in japanese, but you get cake and fruits! and! a "free dinner" coupon to use on your next birthday! i will be going back friday, and i plan to have a blast! (plus get my dinner free!)...yay!

had lunch here on a weekday. spent under $30 for 2 people, that's including tip and tax! had shrimp/veggie tempura and chicken yakatori for appetizers. both awesome and tasty. then we had the salmon teriyaki lunch special and the chicken teriyaki lunch special. we upgraded to fried rice instead of steamed rice for just $1 more. the lunch specials came with miso soup, salad, choice of protein, rice, and steamed broccoli rabe. everything was delicious! even the simple mayo sauce that went over the steamed veggies and the dipping sauce for the tempura. i especially loved the fried rice. the only thing i didn't eat was the salad cause it came with a ginger dressing and i'm not a huge fan of ginger. but my husband ate both his salad and mine, so i'm assuming it was good. service was good and attentive. staff warm and welcoming, especially their host. but only giving 4 stars cuz there was a slight language barrier with the server. didn't have the sushi or hibachi, so can't comment on that. i will update my review when i do try their sushi and hibachi, cuz we will definitely be going back! atmosphere is kinda dated, but food, service, and price make up for it.

Best sushi at the best price. You have three seating options. Either sit at the hibachi table (I have not tried it), sit at a table with waiter service, or sit at the sushi bar. We usually get the maki rolls, and they are EXCELLENT. Just as good as Swordfish, but at a better price. Ju Rin does not have the fanciest decor, but they have great Japanese food. My favorites are the Sweet Shrimp sashimi, spicy scallops, Godzilla, and the dragon rolls. They serve complimentary miso and salad with that yummy ginger salad dressing. The only roll that I did not care for is the Big Roll, probably because of the egg which I do not prefer. I go to Ju Rin about once a month, either the Geneva or South Elgin location.

If you're feeling adventurous, put yourself in the hands of Sudo, the sushi chef. I went there for dinner on a Saturday evening with a group, including someone who had lived in Japan for three years, and ordered chef's choice. We got a lot of really delicious sashimi, as well as something that looked kind of green and gooey... I have no idea what it was, but my guest was absolutely delighted, he said he hadn't seen that outside of Japan. It was delicious, whatever it was. This place is my favorite.

I don't really go to a lot of Japanese restaurants out in the suburbs, because a lot of times the food isn't "authentic". I mean, there isn't much to Japanese food, but some of these fusion and trendy sushi places are just doing things wrong! I love JuRin because it's simple, and delicious. The food tastes like how they're supposed to taste. I love it. I also love the owner...or manager..? He's Japanese, and it's nice because that's hard to find now days. The prices are pretty reasonable, and everything is very fresh. It's on the small side, so it gets pretty packed for dinner time, but I usually like to go for lunch anyway. And even then sometimes it gets a little crowded. Either way, definitely a place to try great Japanese food.

I went here with my husband and parents. The place was packed on Saturday night, I am glad we made a reservation. The staff is awesome, they are extremely upbeat, funny and clearly like their jobs. It did take the staff a few minutes to recognize that we were standing by the door, but again it was packed. We sat at a dining/sushi table. Mom and Dad had chicken & salmon teriyaki which they both enjoyed. My favorite roll that we had was the White Dragon. My husbands favorite was the Tom Roll. We also had the spider roll and spicy tuna. Overall for the price (extremely reasonable as far as sushi is concerned) the sushi was good. Not the best I have ever had, but definitely good and I would go back. The only downer for me - was that the bathroom was not clean, papertowels everywhere, again probably due to how busy the place was. But I do feel that is important especially in a sushi restaurant.

Went there on Wednesday. We sat at a cooking table. Now this has been my favorite place, I used to love, love, love it. Unfortunately, our experience was not a very good one. After not being there in probably a year (to sit down and eat, usually we take home) things have changed. The food (not the sushi) has changed. Smaller shrimp, tougher filets, and a service that was rushed. I think their main problem is overbooking. We arrived right on time for our 6:30 reservation. There were a few cooking tables open, but for some reason they made us sit and wait for about 10 minutes. After being seated, they immediately begin rushing you for your order...before you even order drinks. As soon as you order, they begin cooking and plopping your food on your plates, all the while you are still trying to eat your salad and soup. After they are finished serving your food..it's a very hard to get another drink. If you order Sushi at the cooking table...be careful, they bring it all out at once, (sitting at the cooking table, there is no room.) and they were all set to charge us for some they did not even bring to the table. It's all about how many people they can shuffle in and out of there to turn a buck. I'm not saying they shouldn't want to make money, especially in this economy, but they need to slow down, give people an experience they deserve for the price they pay. If I go back, I will be sitting at the Sushi bar.

By far, this is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants in the burbs or dare I say in the Chicago land area. Fancy atmosphere and interior this is not (frankly, I am getting tire of the recent trend of "fancy" or near upscale joints popping up every where). Family friendly, traditional and very authentic this is. From the owners on down, they make you feel very welcome every time you go. Whether you are a first time visitor or long time patron, you are always welcome at Jurin (same for the South Elgin branch). The spirit of the Japanese hospitality is ever present. But, what about the food? How about EXCELLENT! The sushi is fresh. The presentation is definitely a work of art (please take time to enjoy the presentation before you indulge yourself). The artistry is second to none and the taste is just right. Sudo-san, by far, is the master artisan but Osada-san and Gen-san aren't far behind. I have not been to Japan yet but I would guess that this place will do just as well in Japan as it is doing here. Enjoy the experience!

We aren't sushi fans but thought we'd go and see what it's like anyway. Jammed - even at 5:45 p.m.! We took a table for two by the kitchen as there was a wait for the hibachi tables. Service here is amazingly wonderful. I got deep fried filet mignon only because I couldn't imagine how that was done. The presentation was gorgeous. The problem with our food was temperature. Everything was lukewarm, from the soup to the meat. The rice was a sticky lump in a bowl. And I love rice. Sometime I go to my favorite Chinese just for rice. I would have given this place four stars except for that temperature problem. It just means someone in that place isn't paying attention. Someday I'll get courageous enough to try sushi because it looked stunning.

The sushi was super fresh and yummy! This is my favorite sushi place in the area, and I've tried a few. I went to the one in South Elgin (not sure if they're the same besides the name) and the one in Batavia takes the cake!!! I went for lunch and felt the prices were great....like super cheap. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and speedy with drink refills and checking in. GO here and try it!

Besides the price, I'd say this place would be a great place to bring kids. That aside, I think that it's more of a date-night/ special occasion type of thing. They give you a rose and a gift certificate if you go on your birthday. I'd recommend the chicken, although most things I've had there are good. The Miso soup is good, too.

I have been to Jurin about 5 times in the last several years. Each time has been a very good dining experience. We have had several family birthday parties at the entertainment tables and while I prefer not to dine at those tables, the food, service and show were good. My 7 year old daughter has been there 3 times and each time the wait staff almost fall over each other trying to provide extra special service for her !! (I don't understand the one review that had a problem with the staff and their child) We have only sampled the sushi at Jurin, so it would not be fair to try to make any comparison with any of the other local sushi restaurants. We have had reservations each time and it has always been a full house while we were there.

The service was good, food wasn't what I expected. We knew when we looked at the menu and saw tempura chicken (chicken tenders) and large selection of deep fried rolls, it wasn't the place for us. We ordered a few of the unfried rolls, and although they weren't awful, they were poorly rolled. The rice just fell apart. We left feeling bloated not full, and I had a reaction to something. My face felt puffy and sort of numb. This restaurant is "americanized" in its menu, probably great for someone new to sushi.

I didn't think my night out very well. I decide to have some delicious sushi from Jurin. I failed to even realize that it is Saturday night at 7p.m. The place was packed and the people just kept showing up. I placed my order to go (if my brain would have been working I should have phoned in my order) and the sweet girl that works there told me it would be 20 minutes. Well, I didn't plan this trip very well so I wait.... Within 10 minutes she handed me my food and told me that since I was waiting she slid my order in and asked the sushi chef to rush it. That was so kind and unexpected! This place has such great customer service and the food is awesome! I have never had a bad experience here and like I said before, the customer service here is absolutely amazing!

It's such a shame because the food here was actually really good. BUT WE HAD HORRIBLE SERVICE. My friends and I (out of towers from NYC) showed up at 1:55pm for lunch. The waitress told us that they were closing at two, but the chef said that it would be all right to seat us. BUT she was incredibly rude the whole time. She completely rushed us through our meal. She forgot to bring us forks or chopsticks and when i asked for them she was incredibly rude about getting them. She said to us "i already put the wasabi and ginger away... do you need me to go get it...........?" we felt very uncomfortable and were very dissatisfied with our experience. I will let you know that we all still tipped her because WE are not jerks.

This is a hidden gem of a sushi place. It's tucked into a strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't be fooled. The sushi is wonderful and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and they are always great with my kids.

THIS PLACE IS THE BOMB for sushi. It has a great staff (I've only had one terrible experience out of probably 50), they have both cooking and dining tables plus a little sushi bar, and it's a great place to visit if you like sushi but your partner does not. Every time we go here we get the same things: My husband gets the Chicken Teriyaki and I get several sushi rolls. The Teriyaki sauce is delicious and has a perfect texture. The rolls are fresh and delicious and the spicy sauce is addicting. I have NEVER found a place that can compare when it comes to their spicy rolls. I usually get the Spicy Tuna and a Spicy Boston roll-which is a tuna and avocado roll here-other places consider a Boston a shrimp/mayo combo (extra spicy sauce on the side!) and they are TO DIE FOR. Seriously. Their specialty rolls are also awesome but I usually stick with those two because the specialty rolls are so big. The fish is fresh and tasty, is not cut up into a tiny little salad of mayo and junk to cover up the crappy quality, and the rice is fresh and sticky. I LOVE IT HERE. They are decently priced, have THE BEST Miso soup and Ginger salad I have ever had, and are just plain awesome. One tip is to put your name in so you don't wait forever (and you still may wait on a Friday or Saturday night) but getting your name on the list helps. Also, the rolls here are cut into 8 pieces, but if you want less pieces and thus more variety, visit their restaurant in South Elgin (also on Randall Rd.) as they have a moving sushi bar and their rolls are cut into 4-6 pieces so you can get more. This place is a MUST VISIT. No other sushi place can compare in my opinion.

Absolutely loved Ju Rin! The sushi was great and came in pretty large portions, which I wasn't expecting. My friend and I ordered four rolls thinking we'd be able to eat them no prob, but we had to take a lot home with us (which is fine by me). Prices were pretty reasonable too. I'm used to Swordfish prices (a sushi place on Randall Rd in Batavia) which are definitely more expensive and there isn't as much variety. I really recommend the Crunchy California roll; it was my favorite of the four rolls that we got. The other three were the Godzilla roll, the Tom roll (which was a close 2nd), and the classic Philadelphia roll of course. But what I loved most about Ju Rin was the service. You walk in to the sushi chef welcoming you from behind the curtain where he's working, and then all the wait staff make sure you're enjoying your meal. At the end they're absolutely precious and tell everyone "See you tomorrow!". Warmed my heart a little bit and made me consider actually going back tomorrow! Needless to say, this will definitely be where I go to get my sushi fix out in the burbs.

I've been coming to this place for years. The atmosphere is very friendly and the food is fabulous. When I'm in the area I stop for lunch. Very reasonable lunch specials. I just love the sushi chef!

There simply is no better of this style within 50 miles. I can't comment on the sushi since I didn't need any bait to go fishing, however the food and the staff are top notch. We have gone here several time and have most of our special occasions here. From day 1 we were treated like we had been coming for years. The manger came over a spoke with us, the staff is attentive and makes sure you have everything you need and the food is far above average. We have been to several restaurants of this style over the years, both in the immediate area and while traveling, and this is by far the best. As we are told every time we leave, "See you tomorrow".

Jurin is our go-to restaurant for many reasons. This place has never disappointed when it comes to the food.. both the hibachi and sushi side the restaurant are great depending on your mood. The sushi has always tasted fresh and the Chefs working are more than willing to answer questions or make a special roll.. only ask depending on how busy the restaurant is. The reason Jurin sets itself apart from the rest is their service. Coming from the industry, I tend to notice small details that drive me crazy and sometimes I cant even have a good time out if the service is bad. Once you walk into this place all you see are smiles from the staff. They look like they like their jobs which goes a long way. I highly recommend their Godzilla Roll.. my favorite.

Excellent restaurant for either sushi or hibachi. I live in Michigan but the food, service and prices combine to make Ju Rin a favorite restaurant that I frequent several times a year when I am in the area.

Jurin has been around for a while and has outlived a number of restaurants (including other sushi places). That's no accident. It's not a large restaurant but we've never had to wait to get a seat. We only go for the sushi, though, and I have seen folks waiting a short time for the teppan grills on occasion. It's not cutting edge sushi, but rather classics done consistently well. I've become enamored with the orange dragon roll recently. It's fantastic. The service is also notable. They go out of their way to make it a nice, comfortable, and fun experience. Our 10-month-old loves it there with the action at the Teppan tables and the smiling, friendly servers. This is our go-to sushi spot in the Western suburbs.

I've been here several times now, and it's a great Japanese steakhouse. They having cooking tables for those who want to din with others, regular table sitting for those who want to be alone, and a little sushi bar. The staff here are very welcoming, and the food is always delicious. Low lit for privacy, and very clean. Make sure you call way ahead in the day for a reservation as this place gets crowded on the weekend, and the wait can be very lengthy. Enjoy going here, and yeah birthday celebrations here are a HOOT!

I know Jurin is a favorite of many, but I think it depends on what kind of experience you are looking for. There were many happy families with small children sitting around the grill watching the show. This restaurant is for them. My husband and I were the unhappy couple seated at the next table over, trying to enjoy some sushi and grownup conversation. This restaurant was not for us. The sushi was not good--the fish was not well cut and didn't taste especially fresh. The atmosphere was not like your typical sushi restaurant--more like Chuck E. Cheese's, complete with screaming children. The service was very friendly and fast, but the atmosphere is loud, dated, and starting to get pretty worn. I'm sure it's a lot of fun for families, but we won't be returning.

They do a great presentation. The food is really good. Best dragon rolls too. The service is the best. I really enjoy coming here. You really need to be hungry or take home a large doggie bag. Enjoy.

Ate here as a group of 7 and thoroughly enjoyed the grilled entries and atmosphere. The sushi was more middle of the road. Overall a good experience.

In terms of food and general service this is a pretty decent restaurant. My wife and I have been eating there for years. On June 2, 2012, we ate there with a friend. As usual my wife had her service dog with her. My wife and I walked out of the restaurant first, followed by our friend. A waiter came up to our friend and complained about the service dog because another customer had complained. The employee acknowledged that he knew my wife had the legal documentation for the service dog. The employee should have said something to my wife or me and not our friend. The restaurant doesn't want my wife to bring her service dog back which goes against ADA laws. When I called to complain, I was given erratic information as to when the owner would be available. The person who took my phone call had a very limited command of English.

JuRin is my absolute favorite 'go-to' neighborhood Sushi restaurant. I have been going to JuRin for 10 years now and it has always had the utmost consistancy on quality and quantity! The lunchtime Sashimi bento box is absolutely glorious! They also celebrate your birthday by giving the birthday person a free entree! They are a classy bunch at JuRin and I look forward to eating there another 10 years, because this is the best in the Fox Valley in value AND consistancy!

I have a family of six. When we started going to JuRin, we had no children. Besides the yummy food (both sushi and grill), they know our names, which is better than I can say for many of my friends. They are always friendly, and all staff members treat us with respect and kindness. It has a great atmosphere whether you are on a date, celebrating a special occasion, or having a family dinner out.

They will customize sushi rolls for you and the rolls are fat and yummy. No chinzy rolls here. Tempura and hibachi were awesome. I love the fact that you can get an inexpensive tempura appetizer.

I grew up with Japanese food and this was terrible. Not using real Japanese ingredients in the miso soup (I'm sorry, American mushrooms and chicken soup?) or salad is usually my first tip-off that the restaurant is American-ized... even the green tea was weak. Maybe the high reviews made me have much higher expectations than usual. We brought our 3 young boys and usually a good teppan show caters to the kids with extra tricks or humor... this guy was not only NOT even oriental or asian, but boring and barely cracked a smile. Part of the price of this overly expensive dinner is the show. My boys also did not care for the food, which really in Teppan, is hard to mess up. We did have a spicy tuna roll and again, not impressed with the taste at all. We will not ever come back and we will not recommend this to our friends. Save your money if you know what real Japanese food is supposed to taste like.

I chose this place for a Valentine's Day/birthday dinner because of the majority positive reviews I read. The food was great, the service was not. It was clear they were overbook and under staffed on Valentine's Day. I made a reservation for 6 pm and did not get seated until 6:30. The host seated people who arrived after us before we were seated. It was disorganized. This place could be a huge hit if they worked on their service and got a little bit larger of a building (the seating was very cramped). Service once we sat down was good, though.

I have been going to this place since they opened. I am good friends with Sudo, the owner, and the staff at this location. I will be as objective as i can in this review, though, for the benefit of the Yelp audience. In winter and summer, this place can get hot. I wouldn't blame the restaurant management for that, because I'm sure they're on lease, and you can only do so much if you don't have support from your land lord. The food is always TOP-NOTCH. I can vouch for it. NEVER have I had a bad meal at Ju Rin. Their sushi is ALWAYS fresh. Their calamari sautee is the one of the only things I miss since I went vegetarian. Their fillet and shrimp is great. Their egg-yolk sauce topping is TO DIE FOR. I get egg yolk sauce on my Vegetarian Delight dinners that I order when I go Teppan Yaki (that's the cooking tables for the uninitiated). Sushi chefs (sometimes it is Sudo himself, other times it is another guy whose name I don't know, but I know the guy himself pretty well) are REALLY friendly. I love this place. The location that is further north on Randall in South Elgin has a LOT more room, but they have the opposite heat problem. It gets really drafty during winter. PS, their Japanese Pancake (Kakiage, pronounced KAH-KEY-AH-GEY) is REALLY good, too! Fried Tempura rolls are good if you're going sushi.

My wife had been pestering me for a while to go here. I took my nieces when they were in town recently. Overall the place was pretty good. Staff is very friendly. We had the hibachi and it was a good show and the food was pretty good. It is not much different from Beni Hana or other Japanese hibachi type places. Overall - it was a positive experience. I did not get any sushi so i cannot comment on that aspect of the business.

We have only ordered the take out sushi. It was ok. My issue was that when we picked it up it was sitting on a counter by the door. It is raw fish! The fridge would have made more sense. After it had been sitting out, we still had the drive home. Not sure how long raw fish can sit out but I would have felt better if it hadn't been siting out. We will try eating in the restaurant next time.

after a day of shopping at geneva commons, someone had a craving for sushi... sushi.... out here in the boonies?!? this was the first thing that came up while searching yelp as we dragged all the shopping bags to the car. i admit, i felt a little guilty walking in 30 minutes before closing, but they welcomed us and had us seated in no time. service was quick and friendly... we were in and out just in time for them to close. sushi rolls (tempura shrimp, river eel, dragon, volcano) were surprisingly good, but the chicken yakisoba was just 'ok'... one of the servers let us know there was a south elgin location, which is actually closer to me... i'll definitely have to try it again when i'm not in a rush! ps: i really wish that mosquito didn't bite my face while i was sitting there waiting for my food!

This place is great... The rolls are fresh.. the service is SPECTACULAR.. and the atmosphere is just so comfortable and happy. When my husband and I visited last week, there were 3 birthdays.. normally I cannot stand these types of loud crowds when I'm on a date.. but it was so cute! The ENTIRE staff came out, including the cooks in the back, to sing Happy Birthday.. in Japanese! =) I'm not really sure how long we were waiting for our food, but I'm pretty sure it was about 10 minutes.. when the Manager [not our server] came with our food, she apologized like crazy! I told her it wasn't a problem at all and she just kept smiling and asked if there was anything else she could get us. The sushi chef even came out to ask us if our food was okay.. which of course it was. I sadly cannot remember what we ordered, except for the salmon skin roll [sakekawa] and a river eel roll. Oh, I also ordered a philadelphia roll, which practically melted in my mouth.. If this were only closer to me, I'd have it at least 2x a week. LOVE JuRin!

The food is pretty good, but a poor atmosphere. Not a very inviting dining room. Service was good however. I will return for take out only.

Disagree with the recommendations about sushi and sashimi. I thought it would not be possible to tell if you got bad sushi, until I had it at Jurin. It was clearly previously frozen, bad tasting. Not exactly a slow day on the weekend either so you would think that there would be a fresh supply, but it was terrible and I have not gone back since. Everyone else here -- not many Asian customers, if that's an indicator -- is for the teppanyaki, the tableside show with the knives and such. That's the real draw. Stay clear of the sushi, which is tiny, mediocre, and not a good value for the money.

Probably the best sushi I have had in my life, although I have never been to Japan. The sushi chef even entertains my children when we are there. They always remember us, and do great birthday celebrations at the cook tables. The staff is super friendly, and quick! We have since moved out of the area and tried to find a sushi restaurant close by, but have had no luck, it is worth the drive back to Jurin in Geneva. There is also a South Elgin one....but we prefer this one because they remember us. If you are looking for a fancy environment, this isn't the place for you, but if you want the best sushi place in your life, come here! Enjoy!

Nice to find a place to get dinner on a holiday night. I'm used to hearing "No were too busy or not today" when I try to order take-out during holidays(ie: Maggianos or Apple Villa). On New Years Day I was greeted by a friendly voice who was glad to put together a platter of my fav sushi rolls: Avocado, Philly, Godzilla, & Catapillar. They staff seemed pretty jazzed to working & it showed. Great job

Mr Samurai and House of Tokyo are definitely better than this place. Its good for japanese grill but don't get their sushi! There is an art to making sushi and they were most certainly not mastering it. My pieces of sushi were the thickness of burritos...i guess I should of expected that when the ignorant mexican guy making the sushi mistook me for a mexican and said "Hola mami!"...i suggest they leave the sushi making to the japanese if they decide to make sushi rolls disgustingly chode-like. I must also mention besides their size they were doused with suaces of all different colors which all tasted like mayo with a bit of sarachi. Not exactly sushi. I don't agree with the sushi comments for this place at all. If you want real sushi don't go here.

This is my go to place for sushi. The food is always excellent and fresh. I prefer the Geneva location but they have a very nice location in South Elgin as well. The South Elgin has a conveyor where you can sample different kinds of sushi. Great place to go if you are a sushi fan.

Our favorite sushi place outside of Maui. It's simply the freshest sushi you'll find in the Midwest, certainly better than the pricey/trendy sushi bars in Chicago. The service is outstanding, too. We typically sit at the sushi bar and the chefs always serve up creative and delicious variations on our favorite rolls, etc. Love the barbecue eel, and the salmon and tuna are always outstanding. Mr. Sudo has created a warm, friendly atmosphere where we always feel welcome - he even remembers our favorite drinks. We've been to Swordfish, but always come back to Ju Rin because of the exceptional sushi and friendly service.

The food and service here are outstanding. It was 30 minutes before closing for lunch time (2pm) but they greeted us with happy smiles. We were seated immediately and our server attended to us quickly. Even though we had just ordered our food, we were given complimentary miso soup and salad. I had ordered a spicy tempura roll (4 pcs) and a dragon roll (8 pcs). My friends thought I couldnt eat it all but I showed them by polishing off both plates! The rolls were very tasty and big but I would have prefered if they had less rice. We had children at our table, so there was some spillage, but our servers quickly came to the rescue to help clean up. You have the option to sit at a table where the chef will cook your food in front of you (benihana style) or you can sit at a table and wait for your food to come to you. This was my first visit but I've been told there are lines out the door to eat here. There was even a row of seats lined by the wall of the restaurant to accomodate those waiting to be seated. A really great restaurant!

(5)Megan C.
My friend and I went here last night. I got the caterpillar roll and it was fantastic! The waiter was really sweet to us and kept asking us if we were satisfied and such. My friend is a regular here and didn't oversell the place at all. I definitely will be returning here, this place is great!
(5)Shira Y.
(4)Savannah F.

Nothing to write home about
(2)William G.
(3)Steve G.
(4)Julie J.
We have always enjoyed our dinners there. Great sushi. Cheerful, attentive staff. My husband was feeling adventurous and asked for the chef to "surprise him" when he couldn't decide on what else he wanted. He loved the unique rolls that they made for him!
(5)Kay C.
The sushi is delicious! We ordered four rolls for takeout and it was really tasty and fresh. The gyoza was great also. We also ordered Edamame, which was good. I can't wait to go back and dine in the restaurant. Go give them a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!!
(4)Kristina U.
Good quality, fresh, sushi at a decent price; I really love the taste of the sushi here and the hibachi grills are great too.
(4)Andrew D.
One of our favorite local sushi places to go to. Good selection, good food, reasonable prices, family-friendly atmosphere. they can get pretty busy at peak times, so we try to avoid that if possible. Sushi is always delivered to the table quickly.
(4)Mike K.
(5)Greg H.

Ahh.. JuRIn.
(5)Allison C.

This is a wonderful place to get sushi. We order carry out weekly. The sushi is reasonably priced and delicious. Our whole family enjoys dining around the grill as well.

Good Japanese food with friendly wait staff and atmosphere. This restaurant is better than other Japanese restaurants in the Tri-Cities I would recommend it to family and friends.

(5)Shan H.
Best sushi at the best price!!! Never been disappointed by anything I've eaten there. The staff is friendly, but not too friendly, and checks up on you often. Great place to eat.
(5)Meg B.

(4)Tanya S.
(5)Vanessa M.
had lunch here on a weekday. spent under $30 for 2 people, that's including tip and tax! had shrimp/veggie tempura and chicken yakatori for appetizers. both awesome and tasty. then we had the salmon teriyaki lunch special and the chicken teriyaki lunch special. we upgraded to fried rice instead of steamed rice for just $1 more. the lunch specials came with miso soup, salad, choice of protein, rice, and steamed broccoli rabe. everything was delicious! even the simple mayo sauce that went over the steamed veggies and the dipping sauce for the tempura. i especially loved the fried rice. the only thing i didn't eat was the salad cause it came with a ginger dressing and i'm not a huge fan of ginger. but my husband ate both his salad and mine, so i'm assuming it was good. service was good and attentive. staff warm and welcoming, especially their host. but only giving 4 stars cuz there was a slight language barrier with the server. didn't have the sushi or hibachi, so can't comment on that. i will update my review when i do try their sushi and hibachi, cuz we will definitely be going back! atmosphere is kinda dated, but food, service, and price make up for it.
(4)Chad G.
(5)Carley K.
(5)Alanna K.
(5)Kristin D.
(4)Jennifer R.
Best shrimp tempura rolls EVER!
(5)Amy H.

(5)Elizabeth T.
(3)A. B.
(5)Margaux D.
(4)Nikki R.
"Great sushi, so-so atmosphere, very attentive service. Casual, inexpensive, date or family restaurant."
(4)Susan S.
My favorite restaurant in the area! Great food, great service. Make a reservation however because it gets very busy.
(5)D N.
Great staff, food and quality is great.
(4)Matthew W.
(3)Cassie E.
(2)Sam H.
Very good food and service, would have got five stars but the Devore is old and not very appealing to the eyes. Otherwise a definitely eat at again place. Sushi was very good, fresh and tasty. Fried rice was very good as well.
(4)Kim J.
(4)Emma W.
(1)Anna R.
This is a hidden gem of a sushi place. It's tucked into a strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't be fooled. The sushi is wonderful and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and they are always great with my kids.
(5)Nichole C.
(5)Stephanie K.
(5)Denise V.
I've been coming to this place for years. The atmosphere is very friendly and the food is fabulous. When I'm in the area I stop for lunch. Very reasonable lunch specials. I just love the sushi chef!
(5)Dave Y.
(5)Tony M.
(5)Cathy B.
Excellent restaurant for either sushi or hibachi. I live in Michigan but the food, service and prices combine to make Ju Rin a favorite restaurant that I frequent several times a year when I am in the area.
(4)Chris B.
(4)Dan T.
(4)Sara H.
(2)Mundo M.
They do a great presentation. The food is really good. Best dragon rolls too. The service is the best. I really enjoy coming here. You really need to be hungry or take home a large doggie bag. Enjoy.
(4)Joe A.
Ate here as a group of 7 and thoroughly enjoyed the grilled entries and atmosphere. The sushi was more middle of the road. Overall a good experience.
(3)Keith S.
(3)Rachel K.
(5)Maria D.
(5)H R.
They will customize sushi rolls for you and the rolls are fat and yummy. No chinzy rolls here. Tempura and hibachi were awesome. I love the fact that you can get an inexpensive tempura appetizer.
(5)T B.
(1)Laura S.
(3)Michael S.
(4)Craig R.
(3)Karla W.
(2)Jenny D.
after a day of shopping at geneva commons, someone had a craving for sushi... sushi.... out here in the boonies?!? this was the first thing that came up while searching yelp as we dragged all the shopping bags to the car. i admit, i felt a little guilty walking in 30 minutes before closing, but they welcomed us and had us seated in no time. service was quick and friendly... we were in and out just in time for them to close. sushi rolls (tempura shrimp, river eel, dragon, volcano) were surprisingly good, but the chicken yakisoba was just 'ok'... one of the servers let us know there was a south elgin location, which is actually closer to me... i'll definitely have to try it again when i'm not in a rush! ps: i really wish that mosquito didn't bite my face while i was sitting there waiting for my food!
(3)Joe H.
Ate at on of the grills with a group. The food and the preparation were fine. Nothing terrible and nothing astounding. Service was good and price seems about right for what you get.
(3)Justine R.
