Been here 2 times w family and once w the girls. Great service and food! So much better than Egg Harbor. The wait went by fast each time. Portion sizes are huge! Love the tres Leches french toast, duck bacon blt and the fried green tomato Benny. Overall, a great place that will keep us coming back. Huge asset to our Geneva.

Went here two days in a row. First breakfast was awesome and I had the buttermilk biscuits, fried chicken, gravy, two eggs, and upgraded potatoes. Second meal was the wild berry pancakes. Biscuits and pancakes were awesome but the table syrup is a little lacking. Overall, really like the place!

I absolutely love this place! Very happy to have a chic new breakfast spot in this sleepy little town. I recently moved from downtown and I know class and style when I see it and this place is just a winner. I went two weeks ago and the service was impeccable. I loved that the oh so chic manager checked on varies tables to include mine, to make sure we were satisfied and I was. I ordered the infamous duck bacon and being that I only eat turkey bacon, I wanted to have another order! Wow...amazeballs! I also enjoyed their fresh, homemade buttermilk biscuit with raspberry jam and an egg white omelet with goat cheese. Delish!! I'll be back....often.

Have been here several times. Everything is delicious! The pancakes are amazing. The hash browns are some of the best I've had. New favorite spot.

Who returns coffee at a breakfast themed restaurant and had no option other than to order 2 nearly $5 speciality coffee's to buy some flavor? My wife ended up ordering a toasted almond latte and I relented to an Americano after sending back our two coffee's as well as the carafe (...both mugs, along with those of other's at tables around us, were chipped on the bottom...my wife's had a lipstick stain when her mug was set on the table -- the waitress looked right at the lipstick mark, turned to walk away, looked back at the mug but did nothing...gross). While the food was good, not good enough to trump the loud (borderline obnoxious) ambiance, small two-seater tables that we had to continually offer on our own accord to clear off (half and half in the plastic pods in a bowl...for a place called "buttermilk"...you would think they would serve cream in an attractive - and cold - server or mini 'buttermilk' bottle...if nothing else to eliminate a big bowl off a small table). Bathroom for men is unaccommodating, my wife entered a private stall in hers only to have to use the plunger sitting next to the latrine as the paper from the prior persons use would not flush. We noticed a plastic outlet plate broke off the wall exposing the electric outlet of the awkward corner of the entryway, window bar ledge...just lying broke on top of the bar. There was mop molding broke off the wall lying on the floor near our upper floor two seater table. The bus personnel, slammed their tubs on tables and loudly clanged dishes to clear tables and seemed to find it funny even with all the looks they were getting. When first seated, my wife asked three times for a mug for me for my coffee; and then, when having ordered my Americano, we twice had to ask as to when I can expect to have it delivered to the table -- once to the waitress then to a bus personnel (we're pretty go with the flow...however...my wife was more than halfway done with her latte and I still had not received my expensive java). Won't be back despite being "good" food...not with Townhouse Book and Cafe in St. Charles who is king at quality, service, attention to detail and managing smaller tables; and, with Egg Harbor a few blocks away from Buttermilk that also is king along with Townhouse and Nosh for that matter -- both Egg Harbor and Townhouse reflect exemplary care for their property along with good coffee to boot. A shame that coffee can not be a worthwhile investment seeing as there are quite a few yelper's mentioning "watery coffee" served at Buttermilk as we experienced; to which, we clearly overheard a table (2 over from ours) ask the waitress if their coffee could get some flavor added to it...the response...I could bring you a shot of flavoring...the customer, I don't think that's going to cut it nor what I was eluding too. I guess we're not the only ones feeling an a.m. choice of beverage let down.

Husband and I stopped here before heading out on a flight to Portland. We knew we'd be in the air for a while, so we were sure to order something hearty to keep our bellies full. We told our server that we were in a hurry, and she was very accommodating: she dropped off the check with the food and we were out the door in less than 30 mins. I had a vanilla latte and my husband had a mint mocha to drink. I thought both were delicious but husband favored mine more than his. We also split a chicken-fried chicken skillet (poached eggs are a MUST) and the lemon blueberry pancakes as a side. I was so incredibly happy with everything. This place rivals even my beloved Nosh. I'd love to go again and try their other offerings, especially their cinnamon roll pancakes. I hope they start to have pumpkin-flavored things since fall is around the corner! (SHUT UP, I LOVE FALL)

There are tons of highlights at this downtown Geneva breakfast and lunch restaurant, such as the amazing food (do yourself a favor, try "The Ranch" omelette), interesting drinks and if you get there before 10 on a weekday you will most likely be seated immediately. I have been here many times within the last few months since its been open and have been getting a chorizo omelette ever since. The coffee is mediocre but the water tastes fresh and clean. On the flip side, there are some things I've noticed about the service that make me less than satisfied. For starters, they recently made it so you can't make a "build an omelette," you have to pick one that is pre-created and change it from there, but my waitress today did not seem happy that I didn't want jalapeños- they hurt my stomach, give me a break! And she seemed to rush through everything even though the rush had not picked up yet. Everyone here isn't mean, but slightly snappy and annoyed, and that is not the sort of atmosphere I like.

Just like everyone else, we were excited to give this new restaurant a try. We went on a Friday around 11:30 AM. We were told a 25 minute wait from a hostess, but it turned out to only be about 10 minutes, if that. It wasn't bad at all. Our food came relatively quickly considering how busy the place was. Our waitress never stopped by during our meal, and we had to ask other servers/busboys for things, which was fine I guess. The food: I had the Goat Omelette -- an omelette with chicken sausage, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and herbed goat cheese. Literally was SMOTHERED on the inside with the goat cheese, which was so crazy over powering it was nauseating. Then there was a big dollop of the cheese on the top of the omelette, too. Imagine eating spoonfuls for herbed goat cheese. That's what this tasted like. The multigrain toast was a nice thick piece. The potatoes had no flavor at all so we added salt and hot sauce and ate maybe half. Wish I'd had the option for hash browns instead. Like everyone else said, it was pretty expensive, too. $10.99 for that omelette, the bland potatoes, and one piece of toast. Friend had the Red Rooster Skillet -- pretty cool presentation in the skillet pan but she said it was a bit difficult to eat because of this. She liked it for the most part. The longest time we spent waiting was after we were done eating it took about 25 minutes for our waitress to drop off our check and get it taken care of. Our waitress knew the service was not good as she apologized for not checking in on us more when she dropped off the check and saw me reaching for the comment card. Will give it another try but not for a while.

I laugh at how many people knock this place because of their wait. You know why some restaurants don't have a wait? Because their food isn't any good! You know why this place has a 30-60min wait on the weekend and people are willing to wait? Because the food is good and worth the wait! I just don't understand how people gripe about wait times. I see it as a sign of a good restaurant. My family and I head down at least once a week for either breakfast or lunch. I have yet to have a meal that was sub-par. Service has always been top notch and the owner is always very friendly, especially to my kids. I love this place and have no issues recommending it, or driving the 25-30min it takes to get there each week. I only have two minor recommendations: get crayons for the kids instead of the golf cart pencils, and take call ahead seating. I'd have no problems with a 30min wait on weekends, if most of it was spent driving to the restaurant. Keep up the great work!!

I sincerely hope this place lasts. But to be honest, with Egg Harbor Cafe and a few other breakfast places in downtown Geneva, wouldn't it make more sense to open in St. Charles or Batavia? That aside, let's get to the food. The orange-strawberry juice was certainly fresh and quite enjoyable. I like pulp in my juice and this was a little smoother than what I was hoping for. Still tasted good. We also got a biscuit and this was not like a typical dry round biscuit. It was more of an oval shape and they had a tangier taste than what I'm used to. With some whipped butter and a little honey, it was quite good. Then I had the Mountain house skillet with scrambled eggs, wild mushrooms, caramelized onions, sautéed spinach, hickory smoked bacon, cheddar and jack cheese. I never expected a portion quite this large. It came in a big steel bowl, which was cool. All the ingredients complemented each other incredibly well. The one thing I could have used was some avocado. The potatoes were fine, but they could have been a little crispier. On the side, I got the lemon-blueberry pancakes. I'm not a pancake guy at all, but I figured this was the place to give one a shot. I got two cakes with berries, plus blueberry syrup, and powdered sugar. The berry flavor was strong, not overwhelming. And the hint of lemon flavor in the pancake helped cut the sweetness of the blueberries, so the combination works well. The service was fine, the food tasted good, and the presentation was nice as well. Prices are a bit high; I mean, who would want to spend $5.00 for a bowl of berries? I enjoyed my experience, but I have to say Egg Harbor is still the best breakfast place that I've ever been to.

First time at any Buttermilk and the experience was ruined. The carelessness of the management and the server was so unpleasant it overshadowed the good food. First off, we were a table of 4 and a toddler. We ordered our drinks and one of the coffee mugs had lipstick still on it. We brushed it off and asked for a new one. Then we ordered, when the orders came out 3 out of 4 breakfast plates were wrong! We still didn't make a big deal about it since they were almost similar to what we originally ordered. We asked for bacon and the brought us a nice COLD plate of chopped up bacon! The plate was warmer than the bacon! To top it all off when we split the check and gave our credit cards they charged the wrong bill to the cards. Out of respect to the many servers and people working for tips we left 15% but our waitress didn't deserve more than $4 based on her carelessness but she did let management know and what's worse is they completely avoided speaking to us and at least apologizing. The place was not overly busy there was an entire wing with open tables so they have no excuse for they mishap. Being such a new business you would expect them to be a little more carefully and a little more courteous. Despite the lovely appearance and the good food, the service is overall what ruined our experience at Buttermilk. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Once you get past the cute decor, Buttermilk is basically a very average brunch place in Geneva. After waiting more than a half hour for a table before asking if we were still on the list, we were finally seated near the window toward the back of the restaurant. The service, as many have said, is spotty. Our waitress was not particularly attentive, and in fact missed something quite significant, which I will explain in just a second. Let's talk first about the food: I ordered biscuits with jam to start, followed by a veggie omelette with potatoes and buttermilk pancakes. Like so many brunch restaurants, the portions were huge. In fact, they really were too big. I never did touch the buttermilk pancakes, as the biscuits and omelets were plenty. What was interesting about the food though, is that all of it was cooked in far too much butter! I know what you are thinking; you are thinking, "Leslie, please, the place is called Buttermilk. Of course everything is drowned in butter!" But butter and buttermilk are two different things, and although Julia Child may have been a proponent of butter, even she would think this restaurant was using too much. The butter in the biscuits, particularly, overwhelms any honey flavor that might be in there. I said that we would return to the topic of service, and so we shall. My husband does not like butter; he is not lactose intolerant, but has similar reactions to butter in particular. He mentioned his aversion to butter to the waitress when we asked about the biscuits. She was very upfront and explained that the biscuits were coated in a buttery mix before they even went into the oven. What's strange though, is that she did not mention the fact the corned beef my husband was also ordering was covered in butter as well. In fact, the corned beef had such a strong butter flavor, my husband could not actually eat it. This would have been a helpful tip when ordering, as he could have asked that the corned beef be cooked in olive oil, which one might expect anyway. So overall, I am not in a big rush to return to Buttermilk. I could get the same quality food from several other restaurants down the street, perhaps with better service and shorter wait times. More importantly, the food will not be slathered in butter.

Deliiiiish brunch! They have awesome classics done really well - waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs Benedict, scrambles, corned beef and hash! Biscuits are FRESH-to-DEATH with house made preserves. Corned beef and hash is real corned beef, not the vomitus canned stuff my husband loves. The andouille sausage was definitely not your traditional spice level or girth - super skinny and low spice level but still flavorful. Not much of a wait on a Saturday at 11 for 10 people, which is kind of a miracle. Overall, food was really good and service was a bit slow, but to be expected. I would eat here again - if I ever find myself in the remote Chicago burbs anyway! So many options!!

I have frequented Buttermilk probably half a dozen times. The first few trips were a personal decision, and since then it has only been because my other company wants to try. Now, I don't mind waiting, especially since most of the time it's no fault of the restaurant. However, after some really slow service, I have grown impatient while waiting 20+ minutes for a table. The food is mediocre at best. I absolutely love skillets, but their Wilbur skillet was quite the let down. The flavor was bland, it was a little too salty, and my eggs were not cooked nearly long enough (asked for over hard, yolks were very runny). Along with the skillet, I tried one of their signature coffee drinks, again, nothing special. I made the mistake of paying $4.00 for that one time. Save your money, trust me. Throughout my other trips, I have tried a few other menu items, their French toast, cinnamon bun pancakes, and once I got lunch. Nothing really wowed me. The pancakes were probably the best thing I consumed there, and given how it's really hard to mess up pancakes, that's not saying much. The service is abysmal. Most of the time, I was waited on by young kids, probably their first job. Which is absolutely fine, I love early work ethic, but very inattentive, extremely slow, and not a lot of interest in detail. I went one time with my mom who ordered a daily soup. The soup was VERY spicy, and this was not disclosed by the waiter. We didn't ask, so that was totally partly our fault. A manager came over when we asked if my mom could receive a different dish. They were accommodating, as they completely compensated her dish, so kudos to that. But then the entire time after that, we received a death stare from the woman. It was so uncomfortable and just down right rude. Long story short, save your money, save your time, and frequent any other number of breakfast joints in the area. Don't let the cute decor fool you, I promise you it's a trap.

Amazing breakfast! Creative ways of making a traditional meal a step above. The potatoes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with just the right seasoning. My husband had the biscuits and gravy with sausage. Tasted homemade! My fried green tomato eggs Benedict were outstanding. Crispy bacon, firm English muffins, and the spicy sauce brought it all together! The meal was perfectly finished with one of their delicious biscuits and their homemade jam. We'll definitely be back!

I gave this restaurant a second chance. The first time I ordered a regular stack of buttermilk pancakes that were overcooked and dry. So I came back and I tried the French toast. These were just as dry even when loaded with the watery syrup. The crispy potatoes were dry as well. And we found a hair in my moms pancakes. The only redeeming quality was the goat omelette. We will not come back to this restaurant again.

My husband and I have been looking forward to trying out this new breakfast place. Every time we go to any breakfast/brunch place in Geneva, it's so crowded and there's a massively long wait. So, Geneva needed another good breakfast restaurant. We arrived at about 10 am on a Thursday morning, and only had to wait a few minutes for our table. Our waitress came over shortly and took our drink orders. A cappuccino for me, a strawberry orange juice for him. The cappuccino was good, but pretty tiny. Maybe I'm used to my tall/grande/venti cappuccino but this was like a 4 oz cappuccino. For $3.75..um ok, overkill and way too expensive. For food, I ordered the Goat omelette and he ordered the 5 cheese omelette. His omelette came with potatoes and 2 pancakes. Mine came with potatoes and a "freshly made" biscuit. They seemed very proud of their biscuits. Ok, they were good, but "freshly made" is kind of a requirement. The potatoes that came with each of our meals were good, but cut very small. It made for inconvenient eating. Either the careful stabbing motion with the fork, or scooping with a spoon. If they were cut a little bit larger, it would be much better. He said his pancakes were lackluster, they were just average. For a restaurant with the name "buttermilk", we expected better pancakes. My "Goat" omelette consisted of sundried tomatoes, spinach, goat cheese, and chicken sausage. The goat cheese was great warm, and paired with the sundried tomatoes. However, the combination overpowered the spinach and chicken sausage. The chicken sausage could've been missing and I wouldn't have noticed. Overall, it was a good omelette. We also ordered a side of duck bacon. If you're familiar with duck, then duck bacon will be no surprise. It tastes like good bacon, without the crispy texture, but with the flavor of duck. I would recommend it, if it were not so expensive. It's $4.50 for 2 strips of bacon! That's crazy. I realize duck isn't the cheapest meat, but there's no way it's that expensive. The ambiance is nice, but loud. I'd hate to return on a weekend when the restaurant was completely full. It was $35 for breakfast for the two of us. Just a bit on the expensive side for an average breakfast.

I have an issue with a restaurant being off on their wait time estimate by 15 minutes or more. Buttermilk was one of those places. 30-40 minutes turned in to an hour wait. The decor was cute, but the noise level was out of control. I couldn't hear the person next to me and I couldn't hear the waiter. That wasn't much of an issue because he had nothing to share as he wasn't familiar with the menu. The bathroom was disgusting. Every bar on that street had a cleaner bathroom. This is a restaurant, if the bathroom looks like that, I worry about the kitchen. Food was good. Over priced a bit, but creative combinations. If everything else hadn't been such a fiasco I would have come back for the food. Do yourself a favor and just go to Nosh.

We arrived and were told there was a 10-15 minute wait. We were sat in 9 minutes and were quickly greeted with water and menus. Coffees arrived shortly thereafter. Our orders were taken in a timely manner and arrived in a timely manner also. The service was good, the food was great (taste, temperature and ingredient). I got the ranch omelet which was amazing-I added a little more kick to it with some Cholula! And also the Banofee pancakes were delightful. My husband had a very generous portion of chicken and biscuits, which were also very tasty. The reason for only 4 stars is that it was a pretty hot day outside and it was quite hot inside the restaurant as well. They should've cranked the AC. If I was hot as a patron, can you imagine the cooks?

What a mess this place is. Opening week, thursday about noon. Me and a guest walked in and the place was slammed, at least 20+ people waiting for tables. I counted 6 open tables and booths and yet no one was being seated. We were greeted by a stressed out fossil at the hostess station and told the wait would be about 15-20 minutes. We were sat sometime in that time frame but literally watched 5 groups of people walk out in that time, which is a shame because there were places for them to sit, but a couple unorganized hostess missed them. Anyways we sat down and our server came in a timely manner. Although we didnt get any, they have a pretty extensive coffee menu that looked like it would satisfy any run of the mill starbucks order. I ordered the croque monseur with the egg and side of apples with honey and cinnamon. My date ordered the red rooster skillet with pancakes. 16 minute ticket time I felt was reasonable considering how slammed they were. The croque monseur was out of this world. It was soooo friggin good. One of the absolute best breakfast menu items ive ever had. The apples complimented it well and tasted great too. My date really liked her skillet as well and from what i tasted it was great. The pancake was really good as well. Definitely above average. All in all it took about an hour to be seated, get our food then check and leave. I cant really dock them any stars for the sub-par service others were getting but there wasnt really a time where people were waiting for tables and there were empty tables available. The table behind me sat empty for 10 minutes before someone was seated. If the geriatric and the bubble head at the station get their stuff together this could be the best breakfast spot in the fox valley. Seriously. Ill definitely be back, definitely recommend to everyone including families with kids (they had a kids menu), and definitely hope they get their management situation fixed so they stay for a while. 5 stars.

My husband and I went today for breakfast because I had suggested it. Every time I go past it I'm intrigued so we finally had a chance to go. I'm glad we did! First off, the service was great. From the moment we walked in until we left I was happy. It was busy and loud but that tells me there are a lot of happy people there. I didn't mind the noise level at all. I ordered the goat omelet and my husband got the smoked salmon eggs Benedict. They were both delicious! I'm a goat cheese fan and I felt it had a nice amount of cheese. The tomatoes and sausage in it were delicious also. The omelet was huge and nice and fluffy. The potatoes that came with it were delicious. I loved the seasoning. I got the pancakes to share with my husband. I think they might be my only complaint. I felt they were a little dry but definitely not inedible. I think the batter may have been over mixed which would account for the dry texture. My husband's Benny was delicious. We both walked out stuffed and happy. I will definitely be back again. The three milks French toast is right up my alley! Also, the different coffee drinks look fantastic! All in all it was a great dining experience.

Let's start with the positives first. We were told the wait would be about 35 minutes, we were seated in 30 minutes on a busy Sunday morning. No issue with that. The decor is upscale, very nicely done. Once seated, we were quickly served water and that was the last prompt service we received. Our server was incognito for quite some time. Three other tables seated after us, were served food before we had the opportunity to order. With a name like Buttermilk you just have to try the pancakes. As blueberry are my most favorite I was delighted to see a lemon blueberry pancake on the menu. The pancakes arrived piping hot, kudos for that, but they were not dusted with powdered sugar, nor did they arrive with that dollop of whipped cream. Instead, the top was saturated with a sort of blueberry compote, which I would have declined had it been described on the menu. Not a fan of little plastic butter containers and really dislike fake maple syrup. The pancakes themselves, were actually quite tasty and would have been perfection if they had been served without the compote and REAL maple syrup. I also ordered a side of crispy bacon. It arrived undercooked and I asked that it be cooked a bit longer. Some minutes later, it was brought back to the table and clearly had been microwaved. The bacon was now like cardboard. I asked for them to try again and graciously, they did so, but it still was not right and by the time it was served to me, I was nearly finished with my pancakes. The carafe of coffee was watery. No one came to the table to refill our water glasses or, ask if we needed additional coffee. My husband ordered an omelet that he pronounced good. The potatoes served on the side were, in a word, awful. They were rubbery little cubes of lukewarm potato, likely of the precut, frozen variety. They were tasteless and not worthy of the carb splurge. I had been dreaming of hand shredded potatoes golden, crispy, but with that creamy interior you get with fresh potatoes. Will we give it another try? Yes, we will. Next time we'll go on a weekday morning and hopefully without being so rushed the food preparation and service will be better. All new restaurants have to work out the kinks and find their footing. We'll give it another shot.

Good solid food, but hard to compare to some other local breakfast places. Food is almost too much and a little bland.

This was my family's second time at Buttermilk. The first time we went it was the middle of the week and there was no wait because it wasn't very busy. Service was very slow, inattentive and I was surprised that we were there for over an hour when we were only a table of 4. The food was pretty average even though I do like the creative menu. This morning we gave it a second chance. Again there was no wait and not many tables were filled. A gentleman acknowledged is right away when he gave us our waters, but he was not our server. After that we waited 10-12 minutes and still no server greeted us. With two kids that is a long time to wait. We saw two other servers at different tables and one near by but we were still not approached. Yes, I could have said something, but I shouldn't have to and as a result we left. Looks like we won't be trying there again any time soon. We will just stick to going to Egg Harbor.

We waited quite a while to try this place, hoping any kinks would be worked out. Not impressed at all. You would think a coffee bar could make an iced coffee. Nope, gave me hot very dilute coffee warm water. And the pancakes? Mine tasted as if they were sitting under a warmer for some time.... Dry and Bland. Want a delicious meal? Go to Egg Harbor. I will try this again, Maybe hey are still getting it together !

I had lunch today. It was absolutely fantastic fresh and plenty. The service was warm and friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are compared to any other restaurant in downtown geneva. This place is absolutely beautiful plenty of parking did not wait long at all for a Saturday. It is open 7 days a week I wish I could be there everyday. I am so glad this beautiful restaurant is in downtown geneva I love it!!!! James S.

One star for the complimentary banana cream pie... Waited an hour and a half for a table and found out someone stole our table & claimed they were Crowley with a party of 8. If the restaurant did buzzers like every other restaurant out there that could have been avoided. And so they shoved our table of 8 into a table for 6. The restaurant is freezing, so bring a blanket! By the time the food came out, about 45 minutes after we ordered, it was barely Luke warm. Very very underwhelming and not enough of an impression to go back! Sausage gravy and biscuits with no sausage in the gravy. Decent meat omelette that would have been similar at any other restaurant. And then to wait 15 minutes to pay, would have dined and dashed if it didn't fall on the waitress who was very nice.

How does a place where they serve breakfast open at 7? All of the other breakfast places in the area open before 7. I thought the food was overpriced and wasn't good. I had an omelette, my wife had a skillet, and my daughter had pancakes. The eggs felt like they were frozen and not fresh eggs and the pancakes are not on the fluffy side. On the bright side, the biscuits are great. I was excited to try this new place, but there was nothing special about this place. I will not be coming back here anytime soon.

This place is very "meh" and the prices are high. I am not a fan and I think they need to step up their game if they want to survive around the area. I don't know why they opened at this location with such a bland menu; it's like restaurant suicide.

First time there... Clearly they turn off the air-conditioning well before closing as it was at least 80 something inside... Servicing good at first, and we were seated immediately... Always unfortunate when the wrong food is delivered, and my wife had to wait extra time to get her order correct - - and frankly it was a very simple order. As you would expect, when it's just two of you that throws off the whole tempo of the meal. Food was good yet a bit out of sequence, and the environment was lacking because it was hot and humid.

Had breakfast here Saturday morning. Here's the recap: Pros: - nice ambience, bright, lots of light - good menu, lots of staff for busy days - bus boy Matt was on his game. Friendly and attentive. Cons: - took 30 minutes for food to arrive - food was good, but barely warm - bacon was actually cool and rubber like - pricey Bottom line is it's a new place and they are still working out the kinks. But, for what they are charging they'd better do it quickly.

Went there today with wife and two young kids. Overall the food was GOOD without being great. I would say food quality was above average Portion size was not large BUT appropriate The place was very clean and had a good look Staff was very nice and did a pretty good job but not outstanding. Biggest issue was the price. Family of four with two kids off kids meal was over $65 for lunch. Wife had two small pieces of French toast for $11. Milk for kids to drink was $2.50 The place has potential but needs to adjust prices or make food amazing

I didn't have a great experience... We took our neighbors out to breakfast here, and it was just not good. A place called Buttermilk shouldn't serve completely raw biscuits.. Ya that happened. Also he wait staff was not professional. Felt like we were eating inside of a Crate and Barrel. Honey jam wins again!

Great spot in downtown Geneva; I believe it is Nosh's only rival. I love how bright it is. It gets lots of sunlight in the morning. The staff was overall friendly and efficient. My husband and I each were filled to the brim for only $24 including tip. Not a bad deal! Some others have said it's an inventive menu. I beg to differ. The menu is pretty standard; your skillets and omelettes, then your sweeter faire: pancakes, French toast and crepes. I do like that they have biscuits. Not too many places have them and they were decent. They do have a coffee/pastry bar which is nice with plenty of options. The coffee is their own and pretty good. Overall is say 4 stars for above average.

We were all pleased with our food. Our waitress was only on day 4 and needed more training before she was alone on the floor but she had a good attitude so I'm willing to overlook it and try again.

Stumbled upon this place on a random trip to Geneva. Arrived around noon on a weekday and seated immediately. Gina was our server and did an excellent job. Ordered a biscuit sandwich and thought it was fantastic - served with potatoes. Wife ordered the omelette and it was huge. We ordered it with the pancakes and they were delicious. One thing we liked was the maple syrup dispenser. The way they are made it is easy to control how much comes out so you don't soak your pancakes in syrup unless you really want to.

A nice place for breakfast and the ambiance is great. There were six of us for breakfast and we all enjoyed our meals. I had a veggie egg white omelet with potatoes and it was terrific. Sometimes breakfast places make egg white omelets way too greasy, but this was just right. Everyone raved about the biscuits, too, although I didn't have one. A nice addition o downtown Geneva. Hope they make it, but man have there been a lot of restaurants that have come and gone in that spot.

Too loud, tables too close you can not hear the person across from you talk. Not worth the 50 minute wait which we were told would be about a 35 minute wait. Not impressed and will not go back.

Buttermilk hit on every note. Original, over the top tasty, great service, and what a value! Add some Bloody Mary's and mimosas and you'll have the perfect brunch spot in addition to a great breakfast spot. Fried green tomato Benedict Basted eggs, duck bacon, and cinnamon toast pancakes.

Great food, attentive staff and fun! Took my daughter and goddaughter on a Saturday morning, waited maybe 15 minutes but it was so worth the wait. Management came round to check on us and neighboring tables. The decor/design is extremely well done. Kudos to all involved. Going back soon.

LOVE this place!! Buttermilk reminds me of all the breakfast/brunch places I loved when living in Chicago and missed when moving to the Tri-cities. Finally Buttermilk came to town and did not disappoint. The food is outstanding; prepared with all the highest quality ingredients and with the utmost care. The atmosphere is exciting with a fresh, clean look. Look around, there is nothing comparable to Buttermilk for breakfast/brunch in this area!!!

The place is nice and bright and clean, looks like a lot of time and effort was put into the concept and decor, too bad equal time wasn't spent on the execution of the menu. The menu appears to be creative, but unfortunately the items we ordered were average or worse. The Ranch omelet is a grease fest, chorizo can be greasy, but this was too much, the eggs basically became a sponge for soaking up the grease. The pancakes are so so, not bad, but nothing special. One item that really disappointed was the bacon. If a 10 year old boy doesn't like your bacon, you've got problems!! Service was kind of slow, especially getting the check. Maybe after some time, the execution of the menu will improve, but for now I'll have to look elsewhere for breakfast.

My review is based on 1 visit, 1 dish. Not sure if I'll come back. I had the French toasts with some berries. The French toasts were dry, I mean very dry, and totally tasteless... It's not that difficult to make delicious french toasts, and there are a few other places in Geneva where they know how to make them.

Interesting items. I really want to like this place, but 100 percent agree with the comments on customer service. Hopefully they are reading these reviews and getting some experienced front of the house staff. Have eaten there twice and will wait a while before going again, hopefully they will get it together and third time will be the charm.

Came here the day before Mother's Day to beat the rush. Table of 4 including 2 kids. Got to the restaurant around 7:30 and it wasn't too crowded yet. Immediately seated and greeted by our server. I ordered the chicken and biscuits, wife had the steak Benedict. Kids had pancakes. Took a little long to get our food but nothing out of the ordinary. Portions were large, I couldn't finish mine. Benedict wasn't as warm as it could have been. Service was good, place is clean. They haven't quite hit their stride but did a nice job overall. By the time we left there was a wait, so get there early on the weekends.

Went around 1045 today. Quoted about a 10 minute wait, although there were several open tables, most of them dirty. After being seated service was slow but not neglectful. Our server was definitely working fast and was double seated. Other servers also double seated. Food took longer than I would expect at Nosh or Egg Harbor, but understandable. Everything we ordered was hot, seasoned well and made with fresh ingredients. The menu is diverse and we are looking forward to trying more items, including lunch. Fully expect this place to get 5 stars on my next visit. Items tried: chicken and biscuits, egg panini, crispy potatoes, strawberry oj, and duck bacon.

Very good. I had a veggie omelet & it was cooked perfectly. Not over cooked as some Greek rests. Only one piece of toast ( a little odd). I would definitely come back. All the lunch items looked great.

Was driving to the courthouse on 3rd St and noticed this place from the corner of my eye...aesthetically it is very appealing; the white barn walls give it a clean look and the large windows invite some very pleasing natural lighting. Love the openness of it all. The coffee was very good. I then ordered the corned beef scrambler and it was delicious. I finished that off with some French toast and it was an absolutely perfect breakfast. The service was excellent and all of the servers had welcoming and comforting smiles. If I had a gun to my head and was forced to give a weakness it would be the difficulty in eating out of the very col looking skillet pans...that's it. Fantastic; I'll be back.

I am so glad that Geneva has another wonderful breakfast restaurant! We went for lunch, but had eggs, organic chicken sausage, potatoes and gluten free pancakes. The eggs were beautiful and fluffy, not runny and not hard...perfection! I loved the potatoes as they were cut very small--and this made them crispy. I loved the gluten free pancakes too...it was so nice they had that option. And for 7.99, I feel that this place is extremely reasonable. There was more food than I could finish. The interior is very modern, but classic in many of the details such as the bakery counter, logo, light fixtures...a really good mix that was put together extremely well. The service was perfect and both the server and manager/owner? went out of their way to make sure we were having a good experience...we really felt welcome.

I visited Buttermilk on their 2nd and 3rd day open earlier this week. I'm an above-average cook at home and I hold restaurants to a pretty simple standard: do I (or could I) make the dish I order better than they do. My results were mixed. First day I ordered the corned beef hash skillet. I make a very good corned beef hash and I'd say theirs was on a par with what I make. According to their menu, they cure the corned beef in-house and it was excellent. Perfect balance of seasoning, not too salty and great tender mouthfeel. The green pepper chunks were a little too big, the bites which had peppers where overpowered by them. They were crisp and very bright, and a little more chopping or longer sauteeing would have taken them down a notch. If I order the hash again, I'd probably ask them to hold the peppers. The hashed browns were soft, and next time I'll ask them to crisp them up a little bit more. The pancakes were a kind of sweet for my tastes, but soft and tender. The coffee's very good. Second visit I ordered the B&G (biscuits and gravy) and this was very disappointing. I make an awesome B&G at home (so I'm told), starting with grinding and seasoning my own pork sausage and use my trusty old cast iron skillet. To my way of thinking, black pepper flavor should be obvious in sausage gravy -- should be the focal point flavor companion alongside the sausage itself. You should both taste AND see the ground pepper in the gravy. Their gravy was quite sweet which, if that's what they were going for, then fine. But to my way of thinking and based on eating B&G in dozens (hundreds??) of different restaurants all around the country, this is totally the wrong flavor profile for what's called sausage gravy. Aside from the sweetness, I tasted no pepper, or much of anything else. It lacked character. I added at least a half teaspoon of pepper from the mini on-table grinder to my dish and even then, the pepper flavor was SO far in the background it may as well not been in there. (The pepper really has to be cooked with the gravy; adding after the fact is not ideal.) The consistency was a little thin, but had the flavor knocked it out of the park, I wouldn't have even noticed or mentioned it. The biscuits were good, from what I could tell, but they were overpowered by the sweetness of the gravy. I left sad on that visit. The decor is very nice and bright. It's very stark inside with hard floors and high ceilings in a very big common space, so I would image a full house would be quite noisy. Service was good both visits, the first a little better due a friendlier server, but no complaints. There are individual pepper AND salt grinders at each table, which I appreciated. Others have mentioned the costs negatively. It's a slightly higher-end breakfast place and we probably wouldn't go back unless it was for a special occasion. The menu (with prices) is online, so there should be no surprises for customers.

We ordered 2 skillets to go (one with a side of pancakes, the other with a biscuit) and an extra biscuit on the side. When we got home there was no extra biscuit (which was an extra $2 charge) and they clearly charged us. There was NO syrup for my pancakes only butter and 4 things of jelly for the one biscuit. The Wilbur skillet had like 2 pieces of bacon and my chicken fried chicken skillet had no gravy or really anything the description said. Definitely sticking with Lumes.

I am disappointed. The restaurant looks fresh and hip, but there wasn't anything special about the place. The waitress was inattentive at best and the food was ok. I feel I could've gotten something just as tasty for a better price at Colonial or IHOP. I ordered a toasted almond latte but was brought a vanilla latte twice by two different people before I got what I ordered. The biscuits people have raved about never made it to our table so we didn't get to try those. My tres leches French toast was ok. I ordered my bacon extra crispy and it wasn't. Our waitress didn't try to get me the right latte the first or second time, and was nowhere to be found when we were wondering about our biscuits. I didn't even bother bringing up the bacon. I might try this place one more time if that's where others want to go, but I'm not making it a point to go again. I'll stick with Colonial or Nosh.

I had been waiting months for this place to open and was not disappointed. The coffee bar was great- and I was surprised that the espresso drinks are reasonably priced. My one complaint would be having to pay for the coffee again once seated. The biscuits are amazing! I would agree with another review that the eggs could be cooked a little longer- my over medium were more over easy but still delicious. The "crispy potatoes" were also very good. I'm looking forward to returning and would like to try lunch some day soon. Our waitress was great and the resturant was well staffed. We were told the wait was 40 minutes and were seated in 15. Overall, they are off to a great start!

Convenient location across the street from my work. Wish they would deliver since we do weekly lunches in our office. I had my order for pickup today. Ordered at 11.40am and ready in 20 minutes. I had the Sriracha Citrus Chicken Sandwich with side salad. The dressing for the side salad was delicious! The salad was only greens and tomatoes, kinda boring. Maybe some carrots or cucumbers? The sandwich was very tasty and had good toppings. The issue here was the size of the chicken in comparison to the size of the bread was bad. The chicken was maybe 1/3 the size of the bread... Need to buy bigger chicken breasts to put on the sandwich. I will go back and try again because the flavors were really good and since they are new, maybe working out some kinks based on these reviews??

I said I wouldn't post on a place that just opened but I hope the owners actually read these. The menu looked interesting, it was very cute in there...little noisy that comes with the industrial design. My only complaint was our waitress. I know she was the problem because the people next to us had a waiter that was on top of it. The people next to us came after us, ordered after us and finished eating before us. Mostly because we NEVER got our food. I will give it another chance in a couple months but if I see that waitress coming to wait on us I'm asking for another table. I really hope this place makes it and I hope they get some people in there that can make it happen. Oh, and as far as Egg Harbor...their food and service is top notch. Why? Because the owner is always walking around checking on everybody. We saw more busboys at Buttermilk than anyone. Make one of them the managers and maybe something will get done.

All 4 of our dishes were delicious! Only gave it 3 stars because from time of ordering our food til it came to the table it took just shy of a hr we noticed others sat down after us and received their meal, ate and left before we got ours. Obviously, they had a mix up in the kitchen..kinda wish our server would of acknowledge the problem. It was Mother's Day and they were extremely busy so, we will give it another try and hope the service is better.

Love the name/location/decor. The menu is great and looks promising but our particular choices were nothing special. I had the Butcher Block omelette and my friend had the pancakes. She said they were dry but they looked fluffy and beautiful. I also had the biscuit which everyone raved about but it was just a dry, over browned biscuit. The menu was so extensive I had a hard time deciding and would like to come back to try a benedict or skillet. Portions are large and you get a choice of toast or pancakes with eggs which gives you the chance to try a few things! Very extensive coffee bar. Our server was WONDERFUL-suggested popular menu items and apologized about the noise. Which leads me to the deal-breaker. I'd go back to try the food again (lunch looked great!) but the noise level is so loud that my friend and I just stopped talking at one point because we were almost screaming. This was supposed to be a laid-back, catch up on each others' lives breakfast and that proved impossible. And it wasn't just loud voices, it was that hollow clattering of dishes and clanking. They are supposedly fixing that with insulation, etc. but in the meantime I think I'll wait to go back. I wish them well because it's a beautiful place and has promise. Someone's heart and soul went into it.

For those of you like me who's absolutely favorite meal of the day is breakfast it would be blasphemous not to stop in at this beautiful location. I became concerned while scrolling through the barrage of bad reviews, but by gosh I was hungry. When I arrived, unlike many others, I was seated right away. Being an architect, I can say I appreciated the interior's design. The menu looked good...some creative combinations here. *record scratch*. Little did I know that my tall red-headed waitress was going to be an accomplice in crashing my breakfast experience. Please? Can I have some coffee? Please? Can you just ask if I need something? She was completely disinterested. She brought me the wrong coffee twice. Not once, yes, twice. Apparently the heating bill wasn't paid when I my Mountain House came....It was barely warm. I like a hot hot hot breakfast. Disappointed, saddened, ignored, I finally over-paid as well.

Great restaurant with a downtown, Chicago vibe and energy. Fannie, our server, was the main reason I'd return. She was so nice and took great care of us. She was very pleasant and inviting and made us feel welcomed with a smile. I'm sure the other servers were nice, but ask for her. I didn't give five stars because the prices were a little high. I will return.

I understand this is a new place, however they have no understanding of how to accommodate a large group. After waiting an hour for a table, a member of our group asked why don't they push a couple open tables together. Novel concept that they never thought of! Next, it took a good 15 minutes to get our drinks and we waited quite some time go our food and when it did come out quite a bit of the order was missing. I had an omelet which was good, and not over stuffed with cheese. The breakfast potatoes were very good as were the pancakes. I hope they are able work out the kinks and timing.

Gave this restaurant a second try. Disappointed on both occasions. The restaurant is clean and the wait staff is polite. The food came to the table very quickly, however, everyone's meal was barely at room temperature. Eggs were not warm but barely room temperature. Coffee is not in a carafe on the table and the wait staff never came around to refill but instead they stood in a cubby near a register talking to each other. Lastly, the prices are a bit high for the quality of the food. The menu is ordinary and unremarkable. I will not give this restaurant a THIRD try. We will definitely go back to Egg Harbor - never had a bad meal there, staff is consistent and polite and the food is outstanding. I doubt this restaurant will make it after the "newness" wears off.

Good opening Buttermilk! We all enjoyed our meals, ranging from various pancake creations, to a lunch selection (an inventive take on fried chicken). Service was good, with no major hiccups... just on the backside of the lunchtime rush. Seems auspicious considering it's only their second day.

We went there for breakfast a few days ago on a weekday. The hostess was good we were seated and greeted by the waitress. She gave us our menus and disappeared for a while. She looked at me and approached, took our order and disappeared again. Our meal was brought and it was terrible. Pancakes tasted bitter, scrambled eggs had green in it and it looked like they made a batch in the morning and served from there, it was not fresh. I had a skillet, it tasted great if you ate the sweet potatoes along with the meat. Ate the meat alone and realized all I could taste was salt. Waitress came back three times, saw our empty Iced tea glass and empty coffee, never once filled it or asked if we would like more. When we were leaving she asked if we would like a cup to go. Manager was nice and thanked us for coming. Yet, she was playing with the hostesses hair in the front and kept telling her how nice her hair was. Did not bother me, yet more attention needs to be given to the staff. I saw most staff gathering in the front and chatting. Service was weak for us, cannot speak about others. Food was not good at all. Takes a while for the waitress to take the order and after that I saw her take other peoples orders and really never saw her much. I hope after a few months they will improve.

My family ate there for Easter today. It was great. Way better than other local restaurants of the same type, in my opinion. The whole family commented on how good it was. I was especially impressed with their biscuits and sausage gravy. It was delicious and flavorful, which is not common at breakfast joints.

A friend and I had a wonderful experience a few weeks ago largely due to the splendid server Dayna. Her attentiveness to her customers is second to none and her amazing personality and infectious positive attitude is so inviting that I'll personally be referring everyone I know to come and enjoy the environment she creates. I only hope the rest of the staff is as personable and professional as she is. 5 stars for server Dayna!!

First time seating at Buttermilk. Waitress very friendly and cordial. Ordered basic omelette, and my friend ordered eggs over medium. Omelette overcharged on our bill versus what was printed in the menu (not by much, but just the principal) and eggs were presented to our table as over easy and shown on receipt as over easy. Food quality was good. Environment was better than good. Nice place...we may try again as it may just be the "grand opening" jitters. There are so many great restaurants serving breakfast in this area, that I hope they can up their game a little so that they can survive. It is great to see another offering in this area.

We went there today at 8:45, I expected a crowd and there was. We were told the wait would be 10 minutes but it was more like 25. The space is very open a fresh but the acoustics are terrible! Lots of noise but you can't hear the person you are with. Our server admitted she didn't know the menu well yet, which may explain why my husbands order was wrong. Service was very slow and I practically had to beg for a second cup of coffee. Server seemed surprised that coffee mugs got refilled. My omelet was ok but nothing special, the hash browns are obviously frozen and baked, barely hot and not crispy. Toast was wRm, but but not toasted. My husband had the corned beef hash, it had very little meat. I hate to sound so picky but going out for breakfast is our favorite meal and it was very disappointing. My family has owned restaurants most of my life and it was hard to see people standing around and not really caring about service.

Been seated here for an hour before our food came. People next to us just got up and left. When the food finally arrived one of the orders was missing. Still waiting for that and jam for my English muffin yet I'm done with everything else....first and last time. Next time I'll go to Nosh.

Love this place. Service was quick, all baked goods (biscuits, croissants, scones, muffins) are baked in-house. Hubs had the Goat omelette. (Spinach, goat chz, sun dried tomatoes & chicken sausage). Super good. I had the lemon blueberry pancakes (lemon & fresh blueberries in the batter with a blueberry compote) Also really good. They also have a pretty extensive "coffee bar" and fresh juices. (Strawberry orange anyone?) Pretty extensive lunch menu as well. Weekends are super busy & they don't take reservations, so plan ahead. We arrived a little before 9am on a Saturday & although it was busy, people were still sat almost immediately. Definitely coming back. Blows Nosh out of the water.

Have been here 3 times this week, which was my first time going. Overall, all three experiences were good. The hostess, can't remember her name, was great. Service was good. Food was fantastic. While the prices are on the higher side. The food quality doesn't compare to just plain old eggs or pancakes. All dishes that I tried had different elements that made them unique. Kind of like a Gastropub for breakfast. Oh and they do serve bloodys and mimosas! The biscuits are truly amazing but at $3 each, that's a little steep. I hope they do well and I will definitely be back.

This is 3.5 stars... My husband and I are big fans of Egg Harbor Cafe, but decided to try this place for variety. We went at 8 AM on a Monday morning, and the place was pleasantly occupied. We sat right away. I got coffee and the Belgian Waffle that came with almond butter, chocolate chips, bananas, and bourbon maple syrup. My husband got a Belgian waffle with strawberries. I also got coffee. The serving sizes were good. I always hesitate to get a waffle because I'm worried that it won't be substantial enough. I ate 3/4 of my waffle and was full. My husband ate all of his and the rest of mine and was full. The waffles has plenty of toppings. The coffee was good. The service was good. The atmosphere was good. My only complaint is that my waffle wasn't hot by the time we got it. It wasn't cold, but it didn't taste fresh and warm- it was more like room temperature. It wasn't offensive, but I prefer my food hot. It just didn't quite "wow" me. I'd have to try a couple of other food items before I made a final say on the food. Maybe if we didn't already love egg harbor, we would make it a point to come out here again, and maybe if the wait time was shorter on the weekends we would prefer this place over other brunch spots. It is also just a tad more expensive than other nice breakfast places, which takes it down a notch.

We went here at one in the afternoon. We were promptly seated at a table in the rear by the bathrooms. We were never greeted and bumped into for eleven minutes. I proceeded to the front to say we'd be moving and expecting a server. We received a pastry for the rough start, it was ok. The oj was the star of the day. I ordered the biscuits and chicken with gravy. Cold gravy and chicken they give you a steak knife to cut. Pure shit! I Will include a picture of the bacon because it was cooked so much you'd think it was wood. Normally I'd give a place three tries but this place doesn't need anymore tries, we saw enough!

  • Brad S.

In a nutshell, the place offers mediocre service, atmosphere and food at premium prices. We went on a Friday morning, and it was packed. We waited 45 minutes for our food. My Cubano sandwich was dry, giving it the taste of sun dried cardboard. A couple of people in our party ordered eggs with Hollandaise sauce on the side, but the sauce came on the eggs. Nobody complained because we didn't want to deal with another long wait. Our main issue was acoustics. The place is NOISY. If they installed sound absorption ceiling tiles and work the kinks out of the food and service, Buttermilk does have potential. The servers are energetic. It looks clean. The menu is quite imaginative and diverse compared to other Tri-Cities breakfast spots. And if it were quieter, the big windows, terrific sunlight and view would make for an all-around wonderful ambience. If you want to try it, shoot for a weekday before or after prime time dining areas. Otherwise you may spend more time there than you bargained for.

Very cute place. Food is average. That said the fries are really good. The sandwich I ordered had bacon that was barely cooked. Be sure to ask for crispy bacon if that is your preference. Salads and pancakes look good. I've had better skillets elsewhere. Be prepared to wait for a table if arriving mid morning.

Went for breakfast this morning after 10am. Waited 15 minutes for a table for two. This was a little annoying since a large section of the restaurant was unoccupied. Finally seated at a small table, despite larger tables open. I didn't insist on a different table at the time for fear of having to wait longer, so that's on me. No water, no cutlery on the table. Had to stir coffee with my pen. We ordered corned Beef Hash and the "Big Kids Plate" from the children's menu. Food arrived 15 or 20 minutes later. Asked for cutlery, that took another 3-5 minutes. All the food was cold, really unappetizing. Coffee mug sat empty for the entire meal. All of these service issues might be opening week jitters. I hope so, I'm rooting for this place to succeed and feel it could be a great addition to the area if they get these kinks worked out.

Went to Buttermilk on Saturday. Definitely less than impressed. Prices are high and portions are smaller than standard. I ordered crepes - there were only 2 in the order (commonly a full order is 3) fruit was very sparse and this was one of the more expensive items on the menu. My partner ordered corned beef hash and eggs - with a fruit cup. Corned beef was not hash - just a chunk of corned beef that was slightly shredded. Fruit cup was pretty standard - melon with a few strawberries. Our server was wonderful and attentive and was definitely the highlight of our visit.

The place isn't bad. Food was good but not worth the price. Wouldn't have minded the price if the service was actually good. The waitress we had was VERY forgetful and not too attentive. Probably won't be returning.

Very noisy, could not hold a conversation while here. I had a Belgium waffle which was barely warm and flavorless strawberries were cold but taste was ok. Service was ok Will not return as Egg Harbor and honey jams are better places to eat and much quieter.

First tried out Buttermilk 3 weeks ago. It was an okay experience but the fact that we found a hair in our espresso really grossed me out. Decided to give it a second try today and it was a big mistake! Honestly the worst service I have ever encountered. We were told it would be a 20 min wait, but it turns out that their pager was out of battery. I wasn't aware that it was OUR job to make sure THEIR equipment worked! This resulted in an additional 45min added to our wait. Hostesses didn't apologize and gave us a dirty snarl. Definitely will not be back. Save yourself the trip.

Buttermilk is a new restaurant. Our party of two went at 1pm on a Saturday. We had a ten minute wait for a table. This place is insanely busy and after eating there, we understand why. Once you get through the somewhat overwhelming menu with breakfast and lunch choices, you'll find the food to be very good. We ate a Rooster skillet and the Chicken and Egg sandwich, which is served on a brioche bun. You should try the buttermilk biscuit as your bread choice; it's really good. We also had a cafe Americano, served from a Nespresso machine. Very good crema and served hot. They don't yet have their liquor license, but when they do, they'll have craft beer from the local brewery, Penrose. One criticism we have is the noise level. From a noise perspective, eating at Buttermilk is akin to dining in a high school gymnasium. The large, vacuous ceilings are industrial and look chic, but are far from noise dampening. Our server, Taylor, was sweet. Just attentive enough and far from annoying, as some servers can be. Overall, this is a great restaurant and we'd recommend it for brunch. If you come at 9am, you'll wait quite some time for your table.

We went here so excited to try it out. The food was pretty good, the waitstaff wasn't bad for how busy they were, but the manager is AWFUL. The middle aged lady with short dark spikey hair is just plain RUDE. I ate here once, on my birthday and I am petite, and when I didn't clear my plate of food (which was huge by the way) she came to clear the table and made a comment about "how I couldn't afford to eat because I was what, 80lbs soaking wet". There is nothing more that I hate then being insulted for being 5 feet tall and 105lbs naturally. I can't help it that I am thin and I do not appreciate being insulted for this, however I am used to it unfortunately so I tried not to let it bother me. So I came back a second time with my friend, and the same lady AGAIN made a very similar comment about my size saying " you're going to waste all that food. Man, you can't afford to eat any more! Don't go too crazy". So now I see that it wasn't just a one and done thing. She is going to make a rude comment every time I am there. This wasn't funny. It was in SUCH poor taste that I have told everyone that I know this story and will never go back.

Service started out sketchy but improved. The French toast was very good as was the DLT. The sweet potato fries were the hit! Lots more to go back and try.

We have eaten here 4 times since they opened. At first the service was terrible but the food was good and interesting (I had the tres leches french toast and I still think about how good it was!) but once they got the kinks worked out it has been great! The food is good and different although they are liberal with the poultry seasoning. They put it on the potatoes, the sausage gravy and the chicken. I just stay away from ordering too much along those lines and I am fine. There espresso is tasty and the lattes are well made. My other complaint is if you are seated in the middle instead of a booth or by the window it gets very loud. The decor is quant but sparse. There is nothing to absorb the sounds. It was a little distracting on our last visit. We never complained but for some reason the server comped our meal! That was a wonderful surprise. We will definitely go back.

Loved everything about Buttermilk! The decor reminded me of a southern farm (think white washin' a fence) but with a modern twist. All staff was friendly and welcoming. This is their 3rd day being open; the restaurant was completely full and surprisingly, we experienced no hitches whatsoever... Impressive considering they JUST opened. The menu.... oh. my.word. HOW could one possibly choose?! The entire menu (and it's a large menu) looked amazing and after our first experience, I can say we will DEFINITELY be going back and I am excited to try new dishes each time. I had the lemon blueberry pancakes. Delicious! Although keep in mind these pancakes are on the sweet side. And the portions were generous, yay!!! 3 large pancakes is what you get for the price. My husband had the B & B pancakes and they were awesome too! Price is on the higher side compared to some of the other breakfast places in the area. But everything was delicious, service was great, atmosphere was really enjoyable, so all of that made for a really pleasant morning dining experience and I can't wait to go back!

I've eaten here twice in the short time they've been open and it's been fantastic! Everything on the menu looks yummy. The sweet potato fries with truffle oil is so delicious, I'll be back JUST for that! Amazing! They have high end tea that is from one of the local tea shops in Geneva. I did not try the coffee bar, but heard that the coffees are great. They have a pastries and baked goods section right by the front counter which is worth a try. My friend tried the cinnamon roll cake and loved it! All the bakery is made in house. Love that the pastries are homemade! Way to go Buttermilk! This restaurant is not a chain...the owners are small business owners and that counts a lot in my book. I loved the entire experience and will be back for more delicious food.

Had breakfast at 9:30 am on a Wednesday and was seated immediately. There were three of us and everyone loved their meal. I had an omelette with goat cheese, spinach, sundries tomatoes and chicken sausage that was to die for with perfect potatoes on the side. Normally a side of buttermilk pancakes is an option for a side but for a small surcharge i upgraded to specialty pancakes. They were chocolate banana toffee and were amazing. All three of us are them - kind of a breakfast desert. Can't wait to go again. Presentation and flavors were incredible, good coffee and great service!

I am happy to see Egg Harbor has a run for its money. Their own pastry chef... duh! Few service kinks, they are new... cut em some slack. Food, fresh and YUM. Cute decor, little loud, wear your good ears.... but lively, and I like that! Been here three times, many more to come! Welcome, Buttermilk. We heart you.

When my group and I arrived here on a Sunday afternoon, we were told by the host that we would have a 40 minute wait and given one of those flashing beeper things. It seemed to the host as though a 40 minute wait was no big deal and I thought maybe it would be worth it. Once seated, 4 straw-less glasses of water were hastily flung across our table, leaving a small pool of water on the table that we had to ask numerous times to be wiped up (as we did not have our own napkins yet). Instead of wiping up the spill, the person who had the rag decided to just push the puddle off the corner into my grandmother's lap. Aside from that, I am a vegan and used to menus being not so suited to my dietary needs, of course this menu isn't. I ordered the veggie sandwich with no cheese and the "truffle fries." I expected fries with a drizzling of truffle oil on them and perhaps some herbs and spices. Instead, what came out (40 minutes later) where half a plate of dry, cold fries with what looked like Kraft Parmesan from the box cheese and maybe some parsley? I wasn't about to send them back, because it took about 40minutes to get them to our table anyways, but I couldn't eat them either. The veggie sandwich was also sub-par, made on brownberry bread, with crudités type vegetables (as opposed to roasted), and and extremely thin layer of hummus. My grandmother ordered brioche French toast, but instead received just regular French toast. I'm not sure if this was an error in the kitchen, or of my waitress, or if this establishment just doesn't know the definition of brioche French toast. Either way, you might as well just go to ihop or Colonial.

Food and menu was on point, waitress was great but was swamped so didn't see her a whole lot until the end, the bathrooms need help very dirty, the food was worth the trip and would come back for the food alone, this place has been open for about 2 months now so with a little help it could turn around.

We just moved to the area and this was the first breakfast place we tried. Let's just say Buttermilk gave us a reason to not even give anyone else a chance. We waited 30 minutes for a table (not terrible considering it was a late Sunday morning), but man was it worth the wait. Great service and excellent coffee along with our delicious (and filling) meals made our trip exceptional. We can't wait to go back. PS the house made wild berry preserves were worth coming back for alone!

I've been to Buttermilk twice since their Monday opening and I think this restaurant will be a terrific addition to our town. The space is bright and open and has a good vibe. On our first visit, our server didn't seem very engaged although the food was excellent. On my second visit, we had superb service and my breakfast choice, the Quinoa bowl, was out of this world. I'm sure it's going to take a while to work out the "kinks" and yes, there were lots of people waiting for tables. But it's spring break...the kids are home....the weather has finally broken....given that they've just opened, I think they're doing a great job. Keep up the great work, Buttermilk!

My salad was fabulous! However, when my grandmother ordered a chicken sausage, "it looked like a flattened, cut length wise hotdog that did not taste like chicken, sausage." Change it! The waitress cut down our bill for this matter. My brother and I are gluten free so we asked about the gluten free menu. It is not printed out yet, no biggy, so we asked about what was gluten free. She said they had gluten free toast (tasted like Udi's), gluten free pancakes, and the kitchen could omit any gluten in the omelettes (what is in them???). My brother ordered a gluten free Sriracha chicken sandwich. "The chicken was dry, but the bread was good with the sriacha." It came with French fries. I asked a runner if the fries were gluten free, and he mentioned the flour they put on the potatoes before fried. I then asked the waitress to see her input and she had to ask the kitchen. All I can say is that I'm still confused on the fries. My salad was good so I would give this restaurant a three. An overview on the service: seemed annoyed right when I asked about the gluten before ordering.

YUMMMMM. Every time I go I am continually impressed with the food. Good service. May have to wait awhile if you don't have a reservation but it is worth it. Try the banana bread French toast if you are wanting a treat!

I went here with my mom and sister to check out the restaurant for a bridal shower. They had both been here before and talked to the waitress about planning a shower early next year. They said the waitress was very nice and gave them ideas on how they could set up after their expansion was finished. When I came back with them the manager or owner was there and we told her we were looking to have a bridal shower. She blew us off and said just good luck. We don't do that here and we have too long of wait times. After we told her we were planning on having it after their expansion she said they could do it. She was so rude I will not be going back.

I have been wanting to try Buttermilk since it opened, but I just now had the time to wait for a table. Waits have been lengthy since its opening. My friend arrived early to put our name in...luckily it's not one of those places that requires the whole party to be present before they take your name. The interior is light and airy...very cute and trendy, especially for a suburban spot. The serving staff seem a little stressed and overwhelmed...not the happiest bunch, but still fairly helpful. Perhaps this is a result of the recent opening/the restaurant still trying to find its groove. The menu has a LOT of great options!!! Very creative choices! I ordered the Market Skillet, which comes with lots of veggies (that taste fresh!), along with eggs, cheese, and crispy and delicious breakfast potatoes. The food came pretty quickly despite the large crowd, and it was very, very tasty. I think I got a very high quality meal for a reasonable amount of money. My friend enjoyed her Cubano sandwich and also reported that the sweet potato fries were the best that she's had. I will definitely be back to check out more menu items!! Can't wait!!!

Have waited a couple of months to try due too long wait. Not impressed. Friday morning at 10 am & still had to wait. Food was mediocre. Way too loud to have a conversation. Lots of other places nearby that offer better breakfast. Will not return.

The grey work shirts you have your waitresses and waiters wear show sweat stains and dirt way too easy and the staff looks kind of sloppy because of it. You need to invest in a better water purifier. The water you serve tastes nasty as does the water in the area as I live there and can not drink the tap water. Both times I have been there now my omelet was undercooked. I would much rather wait five more minutes then to be served undercooked food. I did have a drink from the coffee bar and although the coffee drink was good, both Barista's looked like they no idea how to prepare coffee drinks. The biggest downside to Buttermilk, which could easily be fixed is that it is a VERY loud restaurant. They could easily drape black sheets of fabric from the ceiling to dramatically reduce the noise level. Its sad to think that not one of these easy fixes will most likely be addressed.

Was excited to try new restaurant with 2 friends. Went on a Friday @12:30. Waited just a few minutes for table. Place was busy but not packed, Cute interior and the menu had so many tempting offerings. The waitress brought our drinks, took our orders then never came back until the food arrived after a LONG wait of over 35 minutes. I had the apricot and grilled chicken panini with sweet potatoe fries. The chicken was so tough and over cooked that I had to use a knife and fork to cut and eat a sandwich. The chicken tasted burnt and had dark grill marks. It was so overdone it was ridiculous! Not to mention I couldn't taste the apricot preserves or anything else that was suppose to be on it. The sweet potato fries were even worse. They were not crispy at all and were soggy, limp, and swimming in grease. Disgusting! One friend ordered the shaved Brussels sprout salad. It looked like a large pile of cole slaw. She said it was ok but would have been better as a side and not entree. It also would have been nice if it came with a biscuit or some type of bread. We looked for our server and she would have asked for a biscuit or something but she never came back to see how our "meal" was. The other friend ordered the veggie wrap with chicken and iced tea. It was a huge portion. Needless to say she said it was only average. She would have loved a refill of tea but our server did not show up until much later when we asked for the check and if we would like to go boxes. Friend told her "no" as no one at home would eat it. Hint...not good enough to take home. She did bring a refill of iced tea when she returned with the check. The tea was so dark and cloudy - think bottom of barrel- and tasteless horrid that she could not drink it. Sorry Buttermilk, 3 strikes and your out!. I'll go back to Nosh where the food and service is great every time.

My husband and I visit restaurants each Sunday after church for breakfast, so we know good breakfast spots when we see them. WeI have been waiting for the opportunity to visit Buttermilk since it opened in Geneva. We were impressed by the name, and expected so much more than we received. The restaurant was crowded, with a 40 minute wait. This was no problem for us, since we knew that it was a new place and many people wanted to visit. The weather was perfect on Sunday, so the outside wait was no problem at all. When were finally seated, the waiter took at least 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged. There was no rapport building, no light bantering, he just immediately wanted to know what we wanted to drink. They don't offer non dairy creamer (vanilla flavored), which was an immediate turn off for us. Then, the waiter brought out glasses of water, and the glasses were dirty. He took my husband's back after my husband pointed out the spots, only to bring back another dirty glass. I didn't touch my glass of water. The waiter finally took our order, very cavalier, no real hospitality, just dry and bland attitude. When our order finally came out 25 minutes later YES 25 minutes later, my order was completely incorrect. I ordered the biscuits and scrambled eggs with a side of meat. I asked for the bacon. What I received was biscuits and chicken with gravy and scrambled eggs with a side of bacon. I told the lady that bought our meal to the table that it wasn't what I ordered, and she just turned to our server, who had just walked up as well, and said "oh well, take that up with your server," and she turned around and walked away. Our server just stood there, no apology, no offer to get it right, nothing---he just stood there and acted like he didn't hear what his rude co-worker just said. I didn't make a fuss, I just tried my best to eat what I was given. I didn't like it at all. In addition, the tiny little potato squares were cold. My husband didn't like the coffee, although I thought it was the one thing that was decent. We will NEVER go back here. The food is not good, and is extremely over priced. The customer service is the PITS!! Do yourself a favor and go a few blocks down to Egg Harbor Cafe, they have excellent customer service, great food, and they actually appreciate your business----and their food is priced right. Maybe Buttermilk is still working out the kinks, but you have only one time to impress me and my husband-----our hobby is to visit breakfast spots, and this place is definitely not one the best for sure.

Buttermilk has been open for awhile now, but the same concerns remain. It's extremely noisy, to the point where our server repeatedly had to ask us to repeat our order. Drink refills only came upon request. It took 45 minutes from the time we placed our order for the food to arrive. We ordered the Signature Burger and the bacon was raw in spots. The truffle fries (which were an additional upcharge) arrived soggy and tepid. A manager came around and asked how our meal was and was taken aback when we spoke the truth, we would not be coming back and went through the litany of issues. She had an excuse for everything we said, including the long wait for food was because the burgers were "cooked to order," but did ask what she could do to make it right and offered a gift card. Since I won't be coming back, I wasn't interested, but at least it was a nice gesture.

I really really wanted to like this place. And I think the owners are working hard to make it great. But right now it isn't. It was a long wait but we expected that on a Saturday morning right after they had just opened. The coffee bar in the front is fabulous and a great idea for people waiting. Delicious. That was the highlight sadly. We had to ask several times to get water, and first they only brought me a glass. Then my husband asked and they brought a carafe, and no glass for him. So he had to ask for a glass. By the time he got it, we were pretty much paying the check. But really that's not too big a deal, our waitress was nice and tried to be on top of stuff. And this stuff just needs more training. But the food? Eh. I ordered the mountain skillet with over easy eggs. When the eggs came I cut into one and it was raw. I'm not talking about the yolk, I mean the egg whites, clear egg white ran down my plate. So that was pretty gross. But even without that the food was nothing spectacular. My husband had the corned beef skillet and he felt the same. He said the corned beef was tasty but dry and the rest was just ok. There was a table of 6 next to us who also were saying to each their that it was "fine I guess" was one review. And really for the price, you expect better food. I may try it again many months from now in the hopes they have the kinks worked out, but mostly if I hear the food is better. How it is now, it just isn't anything special. Other than the decor, that is cool.

Second visit, just as fabulous as the first. Food is delicious, fresh and good portions. Corned beef skillet was fantastic. My husband loved his fried green tomato benedict. Kids had the strawberry crepes, best I've ever tasted. Service was great. The menu is huge and again, tough to decide. We will be back to try more of the menu!

We went to Buttermilk for lunch today and the food was very good, I loved the bright and cheerful atmosphere, but the service was disappointing. We were in our seats for about 10 minutes before we even saw our server. He was never available, didn't ask how we were doing, and our food took far too long to reach the table. Obviously the staff needs more supervision and training. Looking across the restaurant I saw some staff members chatting with each other and others moving like snails. In a busy restaurant, where customers are waiting to see their servers, everybody should be hustling. I just saw a Coffee Bar Menu online. I don't know if Coffee Bar menus are supposed to be at every table, but I never saw one until now. I would have enjoyed a nice latte. I'll give Buttermilk one more chance, because the food was excellent, and hopefully I'll update this review to something a little more positive. If service isn't better next time, I won't be back.

Been here 2 times w family and once w the girls. Great service and food! So much better than Egg Harbor. The wait went by fast each time. Portion sizes are huge!

James S.

Great Brunch in Geneva!! Very inventive menu with quality ingredients. Service was great and wait time was as expected. Will come again.

Great food, attentive staff and fun! Took my daughter and goddaughter on a Saturday morning, waited maybe 15 minutes but it was so worth the wait. Management came round to check on us and neighboring tables. The decor/design is extremely well done. Kudos to all involved. Going back soon.

Very good. I had a veggie omelet & it was cooked perfectly. Not over cooked as some Greek rests. Only one piece of toast ( a little odd). I would definitely come back. All the lunch items looked great.

Waited 45+ minutes for a cold Belgian waffle at lunch on a Friday. They graciously comped our meal, but I probably won't return anytime soon after hearing similar stories from others.

Good food. Good service. We got there around 1pm on a Sunday. Only waited for 20 minutes to get a table. The chocolate French toast was ok. The skillets are great. Good kids menu. Will definitely go back.
