Last weekend we took a trip to Tierra Linda with our dog and had the best time! It's such a pain to find a dog sitter for a quick weekend getaway so Tierra Linda was the perfect solution. Armando was very accomodating and made excellent breakfast. He even acted as our game show host so we could play a board game! There weren't any other dogs there, but we were glad because our dog doesn't get along well with other dogs and they stress her out. For the first time, we were able to let her run around without a leash! They were lots of old barns and silos for her to sniff around. Armando even took us a little hike one morning. Armando loved our dog and took good care of of her when we went into town, which is just a quick 15 minute drive away. It was very convenient to have the farm house in the middle of nowhere, yet still be close to all the shops in town. 5 stars for Tierra Linda. We're definitely coming back.

My husband and I had a fantastic time at Tierra Linda. We loved swimming in the pond , our room was great, and it was fun to watch the dogs interact. Armando was an amazing host and we loved drinking wine with him and talking. We can't wait to come back again soon!!

This place isn't what it used to be, it's overgrown, there were flies all over the house, there was a dead bird in the dining room, puppy feces left on the floor and the dogs don't appear to be well taken care off. Let's not go into the dramatics of the inn keeper or that apparently fat people aren't allowed.... That's a story for another day folks...

I went here over this weekend not knowing what to expect since this has been noted as a very dog friendly place. I was very surprised and my Dog had the best time ever. What this place is: More dog necessary than dog friendly, rustic, and a very attentive, quirky, and very sweet proprietor. The land is huge and you and your dog will love walking around this expansive area. My dog went swimming quite a bit and had an absolute blast. He got along great with the owner's dogs. What this place isn't: It is not your standard bed and breakfast. It is a lot more of a social outdoors experience than an isolated pampered experience. It is not by the main area of Galena (which worked out because after an afternoon of downtown it was great to go back into the more wooded area and hang out there.)

Tierra Linda is a relaxing, down-to earth, unexpected, wonderful, and unpretentious way to enjoy the weekend! Only a few miles from Galena and eons away from the cares of the world, Tierra Linda is the perfect getaway to reconnect with your loved ones. From the moment that we drove up and parked next to the barn we were transported to a place where the world stands still. A warm greeting, a hot campfire, and a climb up the farm house stairs to our comfortable room were a few of the first moments at Tierra Linda. We had brought some fresh corn and hamburgers which were placed on the campfire grill and soon cooked to perfection as we began to take a step back in time and relax for the weekend. After watching the hummingbirds go to bed under a sky full of stars we were sang to sleep by the croaks of the frogs by the pond and later awakened by the birds that were too numerous to count. Now, to be honest, I really know very little about birds, but I was still amazed with the sightings of the woodpeckers, hummingbirds, bluebirds, cardinals, and barn swallows. Farm fresh eggs, fresh fruit, hash-browns, bacon, and biscuits were some of the treats we enjoyed with our breakfast coffee. A walk through the grassy trails around the pond and the beach became a ritual that we just couldn't resist. To mention this beautiful land without mentioning its gracious host, Armando, would be a disservice. He tended to our every desire, shared stories and knowledge of his past and experiences, and loved our puppy just as much as we did. Armando made chicken on the fire for our Havanese puppy, Teddi and took care of her when we went to town. If you are looking for a place to show off your jewelry and high heels, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a place to wear your sandals (or better yet, go barefoot!), if you are looking for place that time has forgotten, if you are looking for a place and a host with a warm heart then you have found the perfect weekend in Tierra Linda!

Heaven on earth for puppies....and their human caretakers as well :-) We LOVED it at Tierra Linda and our puppy, Big Tony, is now sad and depressed that he is no longer there roaming the property and getting all kinds of treats from Armando, like chicken livers sautéed in butter and sherry!!! I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to take a vacation with their dog or wants a relaxing time in a natural setting. Thanks for the awesome hospitality Armando! That being said, if you are an uptight person that is looking for a Martha's Vineyard type of B&B or if you absolutely refuse to allow your pup to have any type of human food (even on a short vacay), then this place is not for you! We look forward to visiting again during a fall season!!!

I took my daughter 13 for two night stay at the Tierra Linda, it is a beautiful place. we went on different trails around the property and we took a take a picture of a beautiful sunset with the lake. Armando was very attentive to us always asking if we needed something. He made fire in the fire pit and supplied us with what we needed to make smores. Though I can't have eggs, grains or dairy he made sure I had plenty to eat. It sure is for anyone who loves nature and birds and quiet. The room was comfortable and clean. The dogs were friendly. I can highly recommend it for those who love nature and the Tierra Linda is surrounded by a beautiful are and is close to Galena.

When we made a reservation to Tierra Linda we didn't know what to expect, but based on the all positive reviews we gave this place a shot. I have to say I couldn't agree more with all the positive reviews listed here! We had so much fun and we were able to relax surrounded by the nature that Armando has been able to preserve over the years. Armando is a great host. He warmly welcomes you in his house and invite you to take advantage of all the beautiful things that Tierra Linda has to offer, from kayaking or swimming in the pond to hiking on the trail. Or just sitting around the fire at night and listen to nature. in the morning Armando will prepare a delicious breakfast for his guests and any leftover will go to the dogs. The dogs! If you are a dog lover you will love this place even more: our beagle had finally the opportunity to run around without a leash (we live in downtown Chicago) and he had a blast playing with Armando's dogs, sweet and beautiful Willow and Chiquita. If you are looking for a simple, rustic and relaxing place to stay surrounded by the nature in great company, Tierra Linda is for you. Armando with his kind manners and many stories to tell, will welcome and entertain you like an old friend. I wish it was closer to Chicago! We cannot wait to go back. I highly recommend this place.

Our experience at Tierra Linda Bed and Breakfast outside of Galena, Illinois was incredible, to say the least. Upon arriving at the beautiful, lush, green property nestled in the rolling hill country, we were greeted with a smile and intriguing Columbian accent by Armando who lives and runs Tierra Linda. Armando was extremely welcoming, accommodating, and his friendly spirit made us feel at home instantly. Armando's two dogs, Willow and Chiquita, were loving and well-behaved, giving my boxer pup Tyson an enjoyable weekend. Armando prepared us a wonderful breakfast each morning and we were pleased to grill BBQ with him outside at his fire pit under the stars one night. This selfless host also insisted we borrow his two, one-man kayaks to take a float down the river in Galena (as we had planned to pay/rent some in town). The room my boyfriend and I stayed in was delightful. We had our own vintage bathtub and great views, an overall very comfortable experience. I cannot say enough about Tierra Linda. Besides the gorgeous property, convenient location close to Galena, and this little slice of heaven we were able to experience, having a host like Armando was the true treasure we found in our weekend who will be remembered above all else. Five out of Five stars... 10 out of 10 rating... two thumbs ups.... A unique and invaluable weekend at Tierra Linda. Allison & Anthony

Beautiful property on acres of natural landscape including a spring fed pond and gorgeous views on walks thru the woods. The sunsets are incredible. Armando is a spectacular host, warm and friendly and thoughtful. I had great food and great conversations outside by the fire with him and his guests! The BnB is not only dog friendly, it is a dog and dog owner's paradise!

Yelpers take note: This business is listed twice; the other listing is titled "TierraLinda" (no space) and has about 5 reviews as of now, all of which are on point and worth reading! Short version: Unique place, not your typical B&B, more like a home away from home, somewhat rustic, extremely comfortable and laid-back atmosphere, super-friendly host/owner Armando, 11 acres to roam around, clean pond to swim in with a small sandy beach, excellent food, and most of all, total pooch paradise! Bring your dog(s), bring your bathing suit, bring food for the campfire/open-fire grill, bring an open mind, and be ready to relax! Long version: My husband and dog Tuco and I just arrived back home to Chicago after a glorious midweek getaway to Galena, IL and the Tierra Linda Bed & Breakfast. Tuco slept all the way home and is currently passed out -- he's completely exhausted from his morning of heavy duty fun in the pond! He learned to swim today, and his parents are so proud! The two of us are also zonked, but I had to review TLB&B right away. Tierra Linda is the brainchild and much-loved home and business of the owner Armando, who bought the property in 1996, renovated the farmhouse, created the pond and other features of the property, and began welcoming guests. Originally from Colombia, Armando oozes Latin American charm and is a phenomenal host. We arrived around 5:30 pm on Tuesday to celebrate our 1-year wedding anniversary along with pooch. Armando greeted us warmly, wasted no time in getting welcome drinks in our hands, and made us feel right at home. Tuco and Armando's Airedale, Willow, got along just fine. We had planned to head back into town for a swanky anniversary dinner, but another couple camping on the property (which Armando has recently begun allowing) invited us to share the food they'd brought to grill, and by the end of our beers, we'd decided to take them up on it. We made the right call! It was the second-to-longest day of the year, so we all went for a refreshing swim in the pond, toured the property's trails through meadows and the magic forest, did impromptu monologues in the natural amphitheatre, and then just hung out by the campfire for a while before putting the food on. Tuco already thought he had died and gone to heaven just being off-leash and chasing critters and splashing at pond's edge, but Armando clinched it when he gave him grilled chicken for dinner! We humans stayed up late drinking and talking and eating, then crashed in our very comfy bed in the Luna room. It was a midsummer night's dream, for all of us. The next morning, Armando cooked up a hearty breakfast of fresh fruit, english muffins, pepper bacon, hash browns, and farm-fresh eggs scrambled with herbs, mushrooms, and onions. Delicious! We waited a bit and then went swimming again, and this time I managed to get Tuco in the water with me long enough for him to realize he wasn't afraid, and he learned how to swim! We already knew he loves water, but Lake Michigan is too cold and he won't go in it, so the nice warm pond was the perfect place for him to learn, and I couldn't be more thrilled! Armando offered pet-sitting while we went back into town to do touristy things that dogs aren't welcome for (he does this for a nominal fee). We ended up leaving in the early afternoon yet wishing we could stay another night. If you are heading to Galena and have a dog, or even just have a dog and don't know where to go for a great getaway, go to Tierra Linda. We will definitely be back!

David's right on track. Went here over Memorial Day weekend with our dog. At the end of it, she didn't want to leave - as in, ran away from the car when asked to get in. Had a great, quiet long weekend delivering on every dog fantasy (baby deer? check, grilled meat, check, random snacks, check, huge grassy property to explore, check, pond to swim in, check, wood stove or bonfire to sleep by, check, ability to sleep with parents as long as they brought a blanket to protect the bed, check). Armando's a great host and took care of people and dogs alike. Husband and I stargazed, grilled every meal over the bonfire, tromped around on the trails, read books by the wood stove while it rained, and generally got re-centered. Will definitely go back. However, if you're looking for the more precious b&b experience, this isn't it. If somewhat overgrown landscaping, a small crack in the 120+ year old wall of your bedroom, or lacking a jacuzzi is a failure to deliver on expectations, you should probably stay elsewhere. This is at end, a farmhouse, a country retreat, and a dog spot.

My husband, dog, and I recently stayed here and we will definitely be back. Armando is a gracious host, cooks a delicious breakfast, and offers a relaxing and tranquil bit of paradise. This charming, B&B offers the best amenity of all -- an amazing dog-friendly environment. This B&B is beyond dog friendly - this is dog paradise!!! I have never seen my labrador Brie as happy as she was during our long weekend here. TierraLinda has a lovely pond that Brie spent her days swimming in and we spent time paddling through with kayaks. Armando has 3 dogs himself that were wonderful play-mates for Brie. At the end of the day, Armando would cook a dinner for the dogs as well as open his fire pit for our use for cooking, making s'mores, or simply relaxing by the fire. TierraLinda is a short 10 minute drive from downtown Galena which makes for a convenient trip to restaurants and shopping. When we weren't in downtown Galena, we stayed at the B&B which offered 11 acres for beautiful morning walks, a small beach area to relax by, and a peaceful and tranquil environment with which to relax with a book in the hammock. If you have a dog, this is a must for staying in Galena. If you don't have a dog, you still will enjoy a gracious host, peaceful and relaxing accommodations, and a tranquil bit of paradise outside of Galena. We are already planning on next trip here!

I wish my dog, Dexter, could type. He would have written a raving review of Tierra Linda. Here is what my dog might have written: "Armando is the perfect host. His three airedales are friendly with dogs and humans and are very independent. But it is impossible to describe Armando without speaking of his chicken soup. Every day, between four and five, Armando cooks chicken soup. It includes three full legs or chicken halves, carrots, celery, onion, and other goodies. Herbs and red pepper flakes. Rice or noodles... It is cooked until the meat falls off the bones and then is cooled for an hour or so... Every dog visiting Tierra Linda is offered a large bowl of the soup. I quickly forgot the dry food my dad has fed me since birth and took to Armando's soup. That is my best memory of the sojourn. "My Mom and Dad did not try Armando's chicken soup but enjoyed Armando's breakfast: A good hearty breakfast with eggs, bacon (I got a few bites of that!) fruit. Armando will accommodate his two-legged guests' preferences too. "There are many things for a Weimaraner to do at Tierra Linda. The pond is quite large and I enjoyed swimming in it a lot (The weather was quite hot.) "As for my parents... They spent their days reading and watching hummingbirds. They enjoyed the place as much as I did. MuchÃsimas gracias, Armando.

This place was just perfect. Tierra Linda has acres of absolutely beautiful land in it's natural state. It was once a working farm but has since been converted to a very charming and comfy B & B. The house is well tended and welcoming, and the host is friendly and very attentive to guest needs. It's really pretty from all the lush wildlife- there are lots of paths and yard space, and much of the land is in it's natural state. You will see all sorts of birds and flowers- it is picturesque. There is a path in the woods to meander thru; a very clean spring fed pond (with a sandy beach) full of fish, turtles, and frogs; or a rustic porch for relaxing, reading, or just watching the many humming birds at the feeder. Armando, the host, is a fantastic chef and makes great food, including a phenomenal salsa. He is very friendly and is very good company, but will also leave you alone if you want to sit and read or take a walk. If you want to see downtown Galena, the town is about a 10 minute drive away. My fiance and I loved every second of it, as did our mini schnauzer. Its dog-friendly, and he has 3 well-behaved airedales running around on the property as well. We wish we could have stayed more than a night, to bbq, star gaze or just have more quiet time. We are "city folk", but this was the best country experience ever. We will definitely go back.

Tierra Linda stole our hearts ! What a beautiful place on earth preserved by the owner Armando and da puppies ! We absolutely loved the warmth, hospitality and that relaxed feeling you seek when you book B&B. and Hands down, This is the best B&B we have ever visited and can not wait to come back ! Tierra Linda is surrounded by beautiful nature, acres of greenery, blooming flowers, and trails that take your mind away from daily problems and routine . There is a pond w nice beach, comfortable rooms, plenty of space to relax and enjoy your getaway . We loved the La Luna room with a vintage tub, a separate bathroom, comfy bed and an opportunity to see amazing sunrises! We enjoyed daily campfire with great conversations as well. Breakfast was just amazing !! fresh and delicious with plenty of food for all prepared with love and care. My husband played his guitar and was inspired by Tierra Linda to improvise and create more music . I enjoyed relaxing with a book, taking a walk, listening to the chirping birds, playing w the dogs and, of course, the owner's company . Tierra Linda is a little piece of heaven on earth only a few miles from Galena and Chestnut mount resort . Having spent a weekend there We felt so appreciated and loved there, and left relaxed and peaceful . It was above our expectations ! Thank you so much for everything, Armando ! See you very soon ...with love, Natasha and Andrey. (06-01-14)

I wish this place was closer to Chicago, so we can come here every weekend! I have to admit, my dogs are city dogs, and I was terrified of letting them off the leash and let them roam around the 11 acre property! For the record, the property feels much larger than 11 acres. The owner/host (Armando) has done a fabulous job planting lots of trees and plants in order to hide the fences, making a pond from a natural spring on the property and cutting all sorts of various path's to explore - both through the prairie and the forest. A ravine? Sure! A stone wall? Sure! Humming Birds that let you get 1 ft away from them? Tierra Linda has got it all! It is the most fun to actually share your alcohol and food with Armando and the other guests on the property. Sitting around the campfire with exhausted dogs all around you was an absolutely perfect way to end every evening. Breakfast (for humans) is simple, but nice and hearty. Food for the dogs that Armando makes (chicken legs, livers, etc) makes him the most popular guy on campus! Any human food left over from breakfast or dinner - all the puppies get to share! Someone wrote in the review, if you do not allow your dog human food, do not bring them to Tierra Linda - I would totally agree with that statement. We have smaller dogs and were definitely nervous about them surviving with 100 lb Airedales that Armando has - but they were both sweeter than pie! Can't wait to come back and be less stressed out from the beginning about dogs running away :) Thank you, Armando and da puppies for a great time! See you soon!

We loved our visit! Armando ensured our happiness. We loved fall foliage around the property and explored acres of trails, woods and barns. Walter our dog ran till his heart's content and played joyfully with Armando's spirited puppies. Enjoyed BBQ prepared over a fire, beautiful sunsets and night sky of stars and moon. Our host Armando is now our friend... Can't wait to return. We will share this gem with friends.
