This was my first visit to Freeport, my family and I decided to give this place a try after my aunt recommended it (she goes back to Freeport almost once a year). We had wanted to go to Cannova's (which is next door) but they recently had a fire so are closed. First knock was that we had to wait forever, we first only had 3 people and were quoted a wait time of about 45min, ok fine we will go hangout in the bar get some drinks. I decided to try a grasshopper (which is typically an after dinner drink but oh well), it was very tasty, the way they made it was more like a minty milkshake though they add crème de menthe I believe so it has an added kick to it. We ended up having two additional people join us so we were then quoted an even longer wait time for 5 (makes sense). Unfortunately we ended up waiting over an hour and a half. They could've done better in communicating when we inquired on approximate wait time, the gal had no clue and said um well we are waiting for that booth to open up to fit all 5, they should be done soon (30min later we were seating, but not at the booth so I don't know why we had to wait for that spot). Anyways service after was what you'd expect at any other restaurant, nothing great but good nonetheless. 3 of the 5 people in our party got their Fieldstone burger while the other two shared the filet mignon. The burger was good but not the best burger I've ever eaten or anything. I did like the homemade chips though. Those who had the filet said it was really tender and tasty. Overall food was tasty but nothing outstanding or remarkable where you would need a return visit. Especially with the prices (it has a more upscale feel and look and the prices reflect that) I don't know if I would be willing to pay that much again or wait that long for the food. Great feel and setting in the dinning area as well as the bar. I'm not familiar enough with Freeport though to know if there are other places that would be better to go etc. If back in Freeport I would probably rather try Cannova's or another establishment since the prices do not reflect quality of food.

I enjoyed this place. I was going to visit another couple of places but they were closed on Monday. They had good beer on tap and the bar staff was friendly.i ordered the prime rib and bleu cheese sandwich and it was very good. The Parmesan fries were good but I couldn't really taste the Parmesan. I would go back.

Had dinner at Fieldstone and I ordered the "Waterlot". I thought it was a good steak, nothing special though. The atmosphere is what makes the restaurant. I went with co-workers on a Monday and it was very busy. They have a great bar area and I thought the service was adequate.

I wish I had better things to say about Fieldstone... The food is decent, but its not great, I feel like its not worth the price you pay. That being said, I do really like the atmosphere, its warm and cozy, and you really do feel like you're somewhere other than Freeport. The food simply doesn't match up. I don't often come here for meals, but I really enjoy coming to the bar for cocktails. They're well-priced (I'm used to paying a lot more), and the chairs and stools are very comfortable.

I really wanted to like Fieldstone Inn. I read the previous reviews and I chalked up some of the less positive ones to picky eaters. Now...eh. Well, I will just share my experience. My husband and I have recently settled here in the Freeport area. I love trying out all the small biz type restaurants and I really cheer for the folks who are trying to make it happen. We had our first date night since forever last night. I chose the place: Fieldstone Inn. We arrived and the ambiance was nice, service was great. Nice fire was going in the fireplace and when we arrived it wasn't too busy. The reviews on yelp had seemed to suggest that they really know their shrimp, so we ordered shrimp. My husband got the shrimp scampi and I ordered the beer battered shrimp and parmesan fries. I also had planned on ordering a mudslide (my first drink in years since the kiddos are now weaned). I'm not really much for "real" drinks but Fieldstone is supposed to be the place for cocktails, so I figured they could handle a mudslide. But the waitress said their blender was broken so no ice cream blended drinks. Boo. Okay, no big deal. I don't need a drink anyway. It was still a five star place in my book. We'll just come back for a drink some other time. So, the dinner salad and roll arrived. Mmmmm. It was a great dinner salad and delicious roll (light and fluffy, slightly sweet and still warm from the oven). I couldn't wait for the main course. Ugh, it's hard to even bring this back to memory. My beer battered shrimp was awful. It was saturated in grease. Yes, I realize I ordered a gut bomb--everything was fried. But I have had good beer battered seafood in the past. It doesn't have to have tiny puddles of oil still glistening in the fry batter. But, I think there must have been something else wrong. Like maybe the oil wasn't hot enough when it was put in so maybe the shrimp wasn't quite done on the inside or something? I don't know, I don't know...all I know is that I didn't eat all of it. Now, I hate telling the waitress that the food isn't all that. But she never asked me about the main course, so I felt like I had gotten a free pass. I would have been honest had I been put on the spot. She asked if I wanted to take the rest home and I gave her a decided "No." The fries were eh...okay. I'd take Red Robin's fries any day over those. They weren't really seasoned enough and you could hardly taste the parmesan. I have had the parmesan fries at Larkburger and maybe they spoiled me for any other parmesan fries. My husband's shrimp scampi seemed better. I tasted the linguini and though it was a little sweeter than I prefer, it was decent. So I pretty much thought I had just ordered the one poor dish involving shrimp. Or maybe it was the cook's bad night. ANYWAY, I still thought, driving away that maybe we'd come back sometime and try it again. It was bad, but mostly because I ordered a grease bomb. Right? My bad. Either they'd earned 3 stars or I just wouldn't write any review on this first visit. And then fast forward about 1 hour. And I am curled over the toilet bowl, praying that I can vomit the whole mess up. Yes, it was bad. I had only eaten 3 of the shrimp. My husband had eaten two of my shrimp. He had agreed they were bad so we left 3 of them on the plate. He got the same sickness a bit later. So, what was that all about? Old shrimp? Bad shrimp? Poorly cooked shrimp? I don't have shrimp allergies. We eat at Red Lobster and always order their shrimp platter and we've never had a situation like this. I'm sorry, I think it was just plain old food poisoning. Ugh. No, I don't plan on going back, even for a mudslide. Sorry, Fieldstone Inn. Just the though of you makes my stomach turn.

Yet another Freeport establishment with a split personality. It's the only plausibly posh restaurant in town, yet it characterizes itself as "a casual gathering place." It's a steak-and-seafood restaurant, yet it serves burgers at dinnertime (including White Castle-style "sliders" -- whether these are supposed to be considered appetizer or entree, I'm not sure). The salads that come with entrees are half baby spring greens, half iceberg. The steaks are good quality, but they're 0 for 2 in getting the doneness level right (twice I've asked for medium and gotten rare). Entrees are in the $15 to $25 range, desserts $4 to $5 -- in other words, prices appropriate to an upscale restaurant in a much bigger city and a kitchen with much greater consistency. Service is professional but a bit slow (this may be the fault of the kitchen rather than of the servers), but the decor is a winner -- it LOOKS every inch the upscale steakhouse that it's trying to be. I just wish, for these prices, that it tried harder. Oh, and how could I forget: Free wi-fi!
(3)Ben L.
I have been here 3 times, I can say they over cook their steaks, ordered medium and got medium well. I wanted medium well so I wasn't too upset. Meat was good. The second and third time I tried other items and meat is the best option there.

We were in Winnebago for a wedding reception and figured we were already halfway to Freeport, so we called some friends who used to live there for a recommendation. We arrived at Fieldstone Inn at 5:15 on a Saturday, and our family of four had ordered, eaten and headed back to Rockford by 6:30. I built a burger, my wife had the Western Burger and the kids had a cheeseburger. They all had the chips and I had the steak fries. All the burgers were delicious, the chips were house made and tasty. The steak fries were sprinkled with parmesan and quite good. My wife and had beers from a local brewery, also rather good. The prices were on the mark (actually on the cheap side considering the quality). The service was speedy, attentive, and pleasant. If in Freeport, this place is worth a look! Especially if you'd rather avoid chains.

Went based on several recommendations, was not disappointed. Steak was prepared exactly to order- as good as one from my own grill. Wife's pasta was excellent as well, shrimp were tender and the cream sauce was quite flavorful. I suggest going earlier in the evening- was very quiet before 6pm.

I really want to love Fieldstone. I come here often for drinks in fact, but rarely eat. This past weekend I did dine and had a very mediocre experience. The service was unbearably slow. I waited at least 10 minutes for anyone to come ask for our drink order. Then we waited another 15 min to even come back. My food was actually very good (French onion soup and a salad) but one of my friend's burger was VERY raw. He asked for medium well and it was extremely red. He did send it back but medium well should not be so raw. Overall - the ambiance at Fieldstone is probably a 5. The service and food is 3.

Have to agree with other yelper in many aspects. The food is alright but they can't cook red meat to order. This restaurant is owned by the same family as Cannova's and it's right next door. Fieldstone suffers from the same service issues as it's sister restaurant. Mainly due to age discrimination. I will say that on Wednesdays, I believe, they have shrimp in several varieties and all are quite good.

Had the Red Rock Shrimp and Scallop Pasta. Absolutely delicious, very tasty sauce and the seafood was cooked well. Had the peanut butter pie for dessert, fantastic. The side salad was the only thin that was disappointing, next time I will order the French onion soup.

In Freeport fairly often on business. Been meaning to try this place but now I regret that decision. Brought my wife and two boys. Basically we were forgotten by our waitress. Took multiple requests just to get water. Slow throughout. To top it off, I was so tired of waiting for here to pick up our check we just left to pay at hostess station. Food so-so. My "horseshoe burger" had beef patties the size of a White Castle slider. Wife's tenderloin salad had grisly meat. Don't waste your time.
