new owner alex has totally turned this place around. more like a neighborhood mom and pop shop than a faceless national franchise. the physical renovation has turned it into a clean, comfortable great looking sandwich shop. alex is really concerned about making sure that EVERY customer gets what they want and is happy with what they got. i order sandwiches to go as well as eat in with my kids. they are really accommodating about taking an order over the phone and having the sandwiches ready immediately. great addition to the central street commercial area!

Fine Subway. Of course, Subway never was anything special. Go here if you have a craving for sandwiches. The people are fine but there's no one working here with an outstanding personality. Who would be happy to work at Subway?

Isn't it pointless to review a Subway? Don't you know what you're going to get? Au contraire! I typically avoid Subway, because there's just no consistency. Will the bread be stale? Will the veggies be fresh? Might they skimp out on the condiments? That's simply not the case at this location. I can walk over on a Sunday evening, shortly before closing, and my sandwich will taste just as good as if I bought it during the weekday rush. This location is also very clean, and the owner/manager is very gracious. Despite being the world's largest fast food chain, they manage to fit in perfectly with the amiable vibe here on Central St.

The hours on the door/online do not correlate to their actual business hours. Several times I've made a trip to this Subway to find that it was closed for business. Once on Tuesday at 3 pm and another on a Thursday at 6 pm. I've quit coming to this location do to this fact. I now make a trip across town when I have a blt craving, just because I know that once I arrive I will in fact be able to get my food. It's a shame because the service & food quality at this subway were great.

I stopped by this Subway on my way from Office Depot on a whim, and I'm so happy it did! The service was great!!! This is the best Tuna I've had from Subway. It's not super wet like other locations in Evanston. The staff was very courteous, and they actually took time to listen to my request before putting my sandwich together. And to make this experience even more delightful, I paid under $5 for tuna sandwich and chips!!!!

They recently reopened with new ownership and it's great! The new owner Alex has really turned this location around. Other than the complete remodel, their ingredients are fresh and the bread is actually made right. You know what I mean about the bread if you're a frequent Subway consumer. There are some locations that either use old bread or just don't cook it right. This location is doing it the right/yummy way! They are a welcome addition to the Central St. neighborhood!

Completely changed my opinion of Subway. Good bread, fresh ingredients and nice looking store. Apparently it's under new ownership and you can definitely tell. I'm glad I gave it a chance.

New owner has made this subway one of the best that I have EVER been in. I work just a few blocks from this Subway and after a couple horrific experiences in the past. I vowed to never walk through the doors again. They did a complete remodel and the places looks better than I have ever seen a subway. I thought to myself, does the food and service match the remodeled insides. OH YEAH baby! The new owner is there a lot. The rest of the people that work there are very friendly and the ingredients are really much fresher than I remember at a subway. I now am going there a couple times a week. It is a real shame that this new owner has to take over the bad reviews from the previous 2 owners because they both were horrible. (disregard any review before 2012) The new guy, I think his name is Alex, is awesome. If you have not been to a subway in a while, you need to go to this one.

The new owner of this location on the trendy Central Street shopping district did a great job of updating the shop (very cool mid-century brick walls, etc). He's done an even better job with the main product, a great value sandwich - chips - cookie - drinks and newly launched, chopped salads - all served up by a nice and enthusiastic staff. Alex, the new owner, is a hands-on manager who is always there with a smile to greet his customers. For those who remember the previous owner, a definate 180 degree turnaround! I just saw them handle a huge order for a local school sports team and still take care of all those who walked in without issue. Impressive customer service added-value - on Valentine's Day he offered a free flower and cookie to all his customers. A nice fresh sandwich served by a nice guy...for YOUR Subway fix, come here!

I abandoned this place under the previous ownership, but today I went in to see a newly remodeled store. Turns out there is a new owner and he seems committed to making this a great place again. First, the remodel looks great - lots of room to sit and good, modernized decor. Second, they had about 4 sandwich makers present at lunch! This was a far cry to the one person the past owner had. No more waiting in long lines. You gotta go check out this reinvented location.

I am forced to use this subway because it is a short walk from my home. I enjoy subway 3-4 days of the week, and 3-4 times of the week I am reminded of just how rude and inconsiderate the owner (he says he is the owner, I am skeptical) is. He uses fewer vegetables than any other subway I have ever been too, and says he will charge if you want more spinach or other things.. He wouldn't honor his subway card this evening and told me to sue subway if I had a problem with it! I wish I could boycott this place, but unfortunately it is too convenient. PLEASE SUBWAY CORPORATION, acknowledge how this owner is ruining your brand and strip him of this franchise rights.

All-time worst Subway on the planet. I see it's not just me. Yes, Yelpers before me...they are insanely crabby! Not to mention the sloppy, dripping-with-sweat man was hacking up a lung while crafting my sub-standard sandwich. It was so awful, I was frozen in dismay. I should have just left. I paid and later tossed the sandwich in the trash. Stupid me. It took a awhile for how gross he was to hit me. I should write to Subway. It was that bad.

It's like taking a trip to the USSR! Did someone say Union of Soviet Subway Restaurants? Get to know your sandwich artists at the USSR: (1) The manager who is the quintessential Eastern European woman Soviet bureaucrat who's always yelling all the time even when she's giving a compliment! "Oh, you're child is beautiful. I've never seen a child like that before. I could take him from you and eat him up!" Sounds unnerving but she can be nice. (2) The big hairy Kazakh or Uzbek who seems to have something stuck in his lung and would die if he didn't constantly hack away! In his defense, he follows sanitary procedures and you should be fine taking a sandwich from him. (3) The thin chain smoking Polish or Russian dirty blonde is soft-spoken sometimes and loud at other times. Soften her up by thanking her for little touches on the sandwich. Compliment her and she'll seem less standoffish. The other staffers scold her all the time which makes me feel bad for her. (4) The skinny old man likes to bark with his accent as he asks, "What kind of cheese?" "Toasted? No toasted?" (5) There are two younger, local Evanstonian, cute workers who work there after school. They're beginning to pick up on their manager's style which worries me. But that just adds to the charm of the whole place! I gave a better rating than most patrons because I kinda understand where the staffers are coming from in terms of culture and business style. It's difficult for Eastern Europeans to get into a smiling customer service mood. But its true, they can come off as extremely rude and distasteful! But that's what makes it funny! Go in with a mindset that its part of the Central Street Subway experience and you'll end up being entertained rather than being offended. That's why people enjoy going to the "Soup Nazi" or Clark Street Dogs... to be treated rudely! It's fun sometimes! I go to this Subway every other day because it's within walking distance from work and is one of the cheapest yet wholesome food places on this block of Central Street shops. Despite the service, I am quite pleased with the way the food is put together, wrapped nice and tight the way I like it. Almost every other Subway I go to wraps my sandwich loosely so all the ingredients fall apart as soon as I open the paper. If anything, lunching at this Subway get's me excited about going to Al's Beef in downtown Evanston in the evening for dinner! Now that's a sandwich to die for!

So, I venture into this Subway the other day, as they had a sign declaring "under new management". It was a very nice experience overall. Essentially, everything you expect from a Subway...fast, friendly, good choice of topping (they didn't skimp either) and fresh bread. The new owner was very friendly and has only been in there since June and there is a major difference from how it had been run.

They skimp on toppings. And the people who own it are so mean and cranky all the time. Especially the frail old man. There are better subways out there.

The worst Subway I've been to. The food is usual but the staff was extremely rude. He made us customers feel like we did something wrong (all we want is a sub), but he treats people of certain race/gender very well. This kind of attitude makes me doubt the philosophy of the store and the organization.
