This place is the only shop open late on Central Street. The staff here is great. They are welcoming and wonderful. They are helpful when customers are not sure what to get, they make every effort to meet customer needs, and they are fun to talk to. The other rating is a little uncalled for. One star because of one bad experience, and they say half an hour before close, but we can't be too sure of what exact time they walked in. Also, for a place that is open from 5 am, you shouldn't be surprised if they are out of food or had to toss out the am pastries around 8 pm. This shop could use more space because the customers are crazy during game days. But this shop does offer a sense of community, with lots of regulars from the neighborhood, and the baristas know them by drink and name. If you come in here regularly, you're sure to like being a regular.

Kinda sad but true with all the previous written reviews. Staff is not friendly and just seems unhappy. Every time I've gone in, I am not greeted at the register and given a look as I've interrupted the baristas conversations... Which they continue to have while taking my order. Recently I ordered ice coffee in a personal cup and received cold coffee but not one single ice!!!???? The Condiment bar is always a mess, trash is full, half and half carafes are always empty. Unfortunately, like many who've given a review here works nearby so I guess I'll continue to come in for my coffee and get use to the fact that I won't be greeted or thanked...but I'm hoping the management will read this and retrain the staff to the basic standards of customer service.

I think this is nice place to meet up before Northwestern home football games, they handle the crowds well for a narrow little coffee shop space. The staff is usually pretty quick and efficient, and the coffee fresh and hot. In nicer, warmer weather, there's more of community feel here than other Starbucks, on game days the staff handles the crowd like it's part of the home team. The only real negatives are limitations beyond the control of the company as it's downtown Evanston, the space is small, cramped, and because of limited window space for the rectangular space, it feels a little dark.

This is the worst Starbucks in the area - my drinks almost never taste right and the last few times I've been here, the drinks are not even hot enough! Today, the barista was cleaning the counter while making my drink - with some sort of cleaning spray - and then used the a rubber gloved hand to give me my coffee, holding it from the lid. I had to ask for a new lid - who knows what is in that cleaning spray! Unfortunately, this is the only coffee shop in walking distance from my job... So I will continue to go there. But hopefully someone will read this review and retrain those baristas!!

What I love about Starbucks is the quality control- it's rare that you go to one that isn't very good. Unfortunately, this one is one of the few. Bad layout, cramped store, dark interior, and clueless or inept baristas who are usually unfriendly. They have messed up my go-to drinks enough times that I no longer go here even though it's right on my way. It's too bad bc this is a great location near all the central st shops. The drive-through Starbucks further west on central is much better.

My friend and I went to this store yesterday evening on half hour before its stated closing hour of 9 pm. But the two staff members on duty were already closing up! They offered to serve us coffee, but all of the food was already put away. Nothing to eat with our coffee. Needless to say, we went elsewhere.
