    After my significant other and I ended up getting stranded in Evanston one evening. We decided to grab a bite to eat at this pizza joint. We would pass by this place when we'd visit Bennisons across the street but never really thought of trying the place out. I regret not coming sooner. Our first visit we got a slice of pepperoni and a slice of sausage. We also got a thing of Mozzarella sticks. The pepperoni pizza was superb. However, the sausage out shined it in every way. Both slices are decently big and easy to fold. Much like New York style pizza. The meats were absolutely delicious. That sausage... It had a nice spice to it and you got a good amount of it on your slice. It was honestly probably the best sausage pizza that I had in a long time. The mozzarella sticks really surprised us. Not for the fact that they were good. They shocked us by how much they give you. We're used to places just giving you a small portion of sticks but this place? They give you a basket. The price is fantastic for the amount you get. Overall, I can definitely say you got to at least come once. At least for that sausage pizza.

    Use to be a fan of the pizza But the delivery and Customer service provided has earned them this review, yesterday my pizza was requested at 538pm, I was told that it would be delivered around 6:30 the latest , it was delivered at 710, last pizza with the delivery guy and it was cold Not good , not a happy fan, will look for another pizzeria.

    Its too bad there isn't a really good pizza place on the north side or Evanston. Gigios is ok. Pizza sauce is pretty bland, otherwise it is decent pizza but nothing special. If you want a pizza in Evanston and don't like deep dish, then this place is ok. Also, get to them early. They stop taking orders long before the time they close.

    I grew up going to Gigio's. It was an Evanston staple, just like the Burger King on weekends (more so to catch up with friends, find out where the parties were, or just hang out). With late hours and a casual atmosphere with picnic tables and benches, Gigio's was a great value where you could get a slice of pizza and a drink for well under $5. Big, tasty slices that everyone loved. (Greasy goodness!). They had a great sandwich called the super sausage, and good tacos, too. Fast forward to today, something has definitely changed. The pizza is not what it used to be. The crust is hard and the slices lack flavor. After hearing about changes, I stopped in to see for myself. It's not terrible, but definitely not the quality pizza I remember. It's still a good value with slices at $3.30, but sadly, it wouldn't be my 1st choice for pizza.

    Like many other people have stated this is definitely not New York style pizza. I also have been to New York many times and their pizza is on a different caliber but this did satisfy my hunger when I needed it too. I ordered a slice of pepperoni and the speciality meat lovers pizza. The pepperoni was average plus the crust was a little burnt. I will say the meat lovers was very enjoyable, you can never go wrong with adding bacon to anything in my opinion! Overall, it was good not very memorable.

    The food here is OK. It's fairly priced. The place is clean. I've eaten here over 500 times since the 80's and I haven't gotten sick off it. The staff are friendly, except for that new d1ckish young man with shorts and brown shoes, who acts like he owns the place, but is probably the owner's son or nephew. He was so rude, not answering a simple question about the menu, then answering facetiously when I asked again. Being slightly rude is one thing, but what's with refusing to cook me a burger at 8:30pm? You're open until 9pm! Is the cut-off supposed to be 8:30? Blergh! Two stars, and not one, because I want to love you again, Gigio's. I've been loving you since the 80's, so mend your ways and I'll forgive you! p.s. How can that sausage contraption possibly be OK?

    I love Gigio's but they done messed up last week. I ordered a pizza through grubhub and not only were they late delivering but the pizza dough was partially raw. Not cool dude, not cool. I called GrubHub and they said they were gonna get it situated for me, I ended up getting $16 through GrubHub because I guess Gigio's thought that serving raw dough to a local + regular is fine. Thanks GrubHub for being there, Gigio's step it up.

    In an effort to avoid whole foods, I found myself venturing a bit past the Davis L Stop to see what options lay "just beyond the wall". Here I found this nice little spot with similar priced slices available for consumption. Not bad at all. The slices are NYC style thin and floppy. The sauce is decent and the sausage pieces are somewhat flavorful. Not spicy, however not bland either. The price is comparable to WF so for me to continue coming here will be situational. But a leisurely walk during lunch as the sole destination is not going to be one of them.

    I've been eating this pizza for over 30 years. Sometimes 2 slices a day during my 1st year or 2 working in the area (oh, my fatness!). I was worried about the ownership changeover, but I noticed the staff has stayed the same. Guess what, so has the menu, so has the recipes. This is my favorite pizza in the world, and I am resistant to change. Imagine my surprise that it's still awesome. Unsure of these recent reviews saying they changed, talk to this expert. I say it hasn't. I've had 90% of the menu and it's all good. I've never been disappointed in my neighborhood pizza place except for the hours change. But that just tells me stop there after work, not go home and walk back. Become Enlightened and grab a slice of their new daily specials, I like the spicier ones, myself. I used to love Gigios, and I still love Gigio's. Did I mention cheese-tots? Yup. You're welcome world.

    Stopped in for a slice of sausage pizza and 1) this is NOT NewYork style pizza--not by a mile! 2( the pizza crust was dry and burnt tasting 3) there wasn't that juicy/cheesy goodness you get with NY slices 4) the sausage was plain gross So I tried it again just in fairness and the bottom line is: if you want NY style pizza, you'll just have to go to NY.

    Not once, not twice but three times I have gone in for a quick bite and was told the grill is shut down....you DONT close for another half hour....not only are you losing customers for the day but this one won't be back....

    Pizza and burritos? Got 2 slices for lunch, pieces are small and $3.50 each!! Crust was crispy, not too much flavor in the sauce, sausage was good. Too bad you are so expensive,

    I've been getting pizza by the slice here over 30 years. Well before they got the corner spot! I've never got less than two slices, and I've been hooked on the tacos for over ten years! I've only got a whole pizza from them a hand full of times. It's really a place to go and have a meal, and a fast meal at that! Have read reviews about the noise, let's be honest.... It's a pizza place and not the library! If there was no noise, I wouldn't be going there. It's part of being at a pizza joint that has a lot of business.

    This place has gone down-hill. It seems like they've changed the pizza recipe over the years and the slices are smaller! Back in the 90's this pizza was the best; better than JB Albertos! Not sure what happened. Also, they don't stay open late on Saturdays anymore which is not good.

    So apparently this is where the true Evanstonians go. Last night, at Evanston's Holiday Bash in the downtown area, I have to say this place did a great job of keeping our family toasty warm and our hungry tummies full. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza to keep it quick, my hubby a slice of veggie pizza, and the kids had cheeseburgers and onion rings. Daphne L's right about the pizza having a lot of flour on it. I think it has something to do with helping that crust have a special crispy crunch. It probably keeps the dough from sticking to the pan, which aids in helping that pizza coming out quickly - who knows. The pizza was just what I needed. Basic, but reliable. My hubby's slice was fully loaded with tons of green peppers - yum! Beyond generous in size, and I have to say it reminded me of Boston style pizza. Thin and loaded up. Cheeseburgers here are nice and hearty in size and cooked to perfection. Not overly cooked but nice and juicy. The onion rings were what I expected, and you sure to get a lot! Ask for a side of BBQ sauce, it's sweet and not too spicy. We had excellent service from the second we walked in the door. They brought our food to the table, which was unexpected considering how busy they were. Great bar food and lots of seating. Half of the room has picnic tables, which offers that indoor/outdoor type of atmosphere. Bathrooms...I'd probably hold it and hope to make it somewhere else. I do like that they have a key for the bathrooms, discouraging public use, but it was still a little on the gritty side. Sure, I'd come back again if I was in the area, because the value is terrific!

    Let me just say WOW new owners seemed like they do not know what they are doing! Julio andino is the original owner did excellent job with gigios since he opened in the 60's. Food doesn't taste like it use to nor does the place look like when he ran it at that time. I understand that people need to retire but when you sell a business make sure you know the recipe and stick with it from here on for many years. Don't have confidence in your employer's cause they can be the one to ruin your business also. I will not be coming back I been going there for over 10 years!!! I looked at website and notice that under pizza preperation they removed julio name and put about the mushroom being marinated REALLY??!!! then recipe from italy another lie leave everything the way you bought it do not change it. If it ain't broken don't fix it.....

    Guilty pleasure? Totally. Cop-out dinner? Yep. Ashamed? Not at all. I dig the big, droopy slices of greasy pizza from Gigio's. Not exactly New York style, but much better than the pie found at the local roller rink. Its good-ish. Hits the spot when you don't feel like cooking dinner and you want something honest, simple and good, but not necessarily good for you. So much better than the chain pizza options though a very similar format. The restaurant is not much to talk about. You can eat there at one of the indoor picnic tables. I have. But its a total dive. You don't go there for the ambiance or the service. Perfect for a college town.

    Sometimes food doesn't have to be made in the region to taste authentic. Though the Pace Salsa commercial cowboys would disagree. google.com/search?hl=en&… "New York City! Get a rope!" This is the opposite. New York style thin foldable triangles in Evanston.The pizza toppings are well presented and good. I think the cheese and crust are best. Not too much cheese or too greasy, crust foldable but slightly crisp on edges and not TOO thin. I've had there other stuff like fries which are piping hot, medium size cut, large portion. And a burger before which was big and greasy, but ok. The large fountain soda is huge. However, go for the pizza. The prices are cheap! 2.50 a slice and worth it but get 2 if you hungry. I lived above Gigios for several years and the air was perfumed with the scent of the savory baking pizza and sweet baking cakes and cookies from Bennison's. (sigh) Get the pizza slice (s). Bop over to Bennison's after for a treat. If you really care for someone surprise them with a takeout slice of Gigios and a dessert from Bennison's. Then carve your initials in a tree or exchange friendship bracelets. (Conveniently located by the L Davis stop, Metra stop, and there's street parking.)

    It's mediocre pizza, not great, not good, bad or horrible. The best I've had in Evanston but that isn't saying much. The unaffiliated location in Chicago with the same name is much better, along with pizza from Apart, Chiki's and many others.

    I took a train from O' Hare and endured a 2 hour commute during rush hour to eat here for lunch on a purposely overextended layover in Chicago. This place always beats out Buffalo Joe's by just a little bit every time I'm in town. Something about the soda selection, the many pizza ovens, and the fat guy behind the counter with the greasy apron makes me feel right at home. I skipped the pizza this time and went for a Italian Combo with hot peppers, cheese fries and fruit punch instead. I love how they assume you'd want cheese on your combo Italian. Of course you want melted cheese on pork, beef, and peppers! And melted fake cheese on the thick cut fries that guarantee your arteries are getting clogged with every bite. I personally like to try to shove the cheese fries in the sandwich somehow like how people in Pittsburgh do it. They know how to save time on consumption, those people do. A word of warning about Gigio's sausage though-it's flat like a piece of Jimmy Dean's breakfast sausage and not at all like a hot link. It's still spicy, greasy and complements the beef well anyhow so I can overlook the funny shape. The decor, the sign, and the prices haven't really changed much from the last time I visited so it's always good to see the local business thriving.

    Delicious pizza!!!!! Gigio's special is a great choiice (sausage, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms). People here are very nice. I've only done carryout but when I think about needing to get some really good pizza I think about going to Gigio's.

    It's unfortunate to have to write this about Gigio's since it is the only place around to grab a slice when I'm looking to get some pizza. The slices here above average with the big floppy New York style slices being a nice change of pace. The issue that came up was when I ordered a side item to go with a slice. I went and waited down from where you pick up your slices and watched the workers and waited for my food to be done. One worker in particular looked to be cleaning some rags as they were rinsing them in a sink and wringing them out. After the rags the worker then did some cleaning of a grill and this is where I was like WTF, they came over to the oven, opened it up and started handling my food to check to see if it was done. It ended up being done and the worker carried it in their hands (the same one that was just wringing out some rags in a sink) and proceeded to handle it some more while wrapping it up. I'm not the type to make a scene or cause trouble and I do understand that sometimes things don't always get done in the most hygienic way but this even grossed me out. If your going to clean that's fine but please just wash your hands before touching the food.

    This is an anomoly - it's sort of like New York style, in that it's thin-crust, large, and by the slice. But dare I say it's better than anything NYC has to offer. Chicago does sausage better than anywhere, and a sausage slice and a fountain coke is as good as it gets.

    we ordered food from here a couple of weeks ago with friends who are familiar with the place. my first impression was that it was very clean. we had a variety of pizzas and an Italian Beef for me, it's been awhile since I've had an Italian Beef and I have to say that it was wonderful. the beef was tender and seasoned just right, the bread was perfect for the sandwich. the pizza I had was sausage - their crust is exactly how I like it, crispy but with depth, the sausage is homemade and very tasty. I usually stay away from most franchise pizza places because the cheese is usually awful and not cheese - these guys have really good cheese. too bad they don't deliver to my neighborhood. we will definitely be back.

    Gigio's: my reliable and dependable friend who I don't see very often, despite living just down the street. If you know me, you'll probably know that I hardly ever stay out late and that my fridge/freezer is always stuffed to the brim with things to eat. On the rare instances that I do end up going home after 11pm to an empty fridge, I stop in for a slice or two (okay, more like two - you know me too well!) One slice of pepperoni and one slice of sausage, thrown into the oven to warm and then placed on paper plates and stuffed into white paper bags for me to take home. The perfect grease-carb-cheese-meat ratio to bring me back to life after a day mostly fueled by caffeine. Sometimes, if you come at the right time, the people working will give you extra slices. This happened a few months ago, when visiting friends went in for a few slices and left with pretty much an entire pizza - complete with cheese, garlic, chili flake shakers in little tubs! That night I said "I wasn't hungry" but ended up eating 3 slices. Typical.

    Pretty solid pizza. It isn't deep dish, which is a huge plus for a non-Chicago native. Their pizza is made right on the spot and always comes out hot. I just wish they stayed open later - they would kill it with late night food sales.

    I couldn't decide whether to go with 2 or 2.5 stars for this corner pizza joint. Pizza slices are the only thing I've tried here and they are so-so. The thin-crust slices here are reminiscent of NY-style street slices but not nearly as good. On occasion I'll get lucky and the pizza will be decent but usually the sauce on the pies is weak and the crust lacks any real flavor. At $2.50 a slice it's not a bad deal though if you've got the munchies. Stil it's nowhere near as good as my current NY pizza favorite, Jimmy's in Lincoln Square. The inside of the restaurant is sketchy. Grimy walls and floor and a thick stench of burnt grease that hangs in the air. I recommend takeout only if eating here.

    I see some people are saying this is NY style pizza. Some are saying it's not. My question is, who gives a frick?!?!? Does it taste good? Yes, it does! Move along. They aren't claiming to be either. After some asshat felt the need to write me about my last review of a self-proclaimed NY style pizza joint, I'm learning that people take that whole NY pizza crap entirely too seriously. It's not like pizza from NY is some form of culinary mastery. It's literally street food out there that you can get at a bunch of places really cheap. If you want "authentic" NY style pizza so bad, I believe Jet Blue just increased their daily flights to NY. Do us a favor and opt for one way. You'll have all the authentic NY style pizza your heart desires, and we won't have to suffer through you bitching about it anymore. As I proceed... I came in here just expecting to quell the rage of my empty belly. I didn't think there would be much to the pizza, but I was surprised. First, I was greeted with a cheery disposition. It wasn't like the guy was offering me sparkling water and inquiring of my weekend plans. He just simply acknowledged me with a smile and asked me what I wanted with casual politeness. Another guy immediately cut my slices, then popped them in the oven to warm. You don't have to suck up to your customers to exhibit good customer service. You merely have to give 'good service' to your customers. That's what I got. I got one sausage and one pepperoni. I hadn't eaten all day and the two slices were still a bit filling. On a normal day - when I've eaten like a normal person - I could do just fine with one slice. The cheese on the pizza is excellent. It has a noticeable flavor and good texture. The sausage was great. The pepperoni they use tastes awful which affected the taste of the whole slice. So, I'm really happy I got the sausage or I would have thought their pizza was awful just from the pepperoni slice. The price is as great as their sausage pizza. It's $2.50/slice. Period. Which, makes perfect sense. What style of pizza is this? Good. This seems like a neighborhood staple that has been there for years, just like the bakery across the street. I can see why. This is a block away from the Davis Purple Line station, which means it will be seeing me again when I'm in Evanston.

    Dropped in to Gigio's for the first time today. I have had the delivery pizza in the past, but this was my first time inside. I liked that there was plenty of seating, and it was pretty clean in there too, which is somewhat uncommon for these types of places. Food wise, I had a large slice of sausage pizza AND a cheeseburger. Before you call me a fatty, just know that I ran before work this morning, so it's okay. Anyway, the thin crust pizza was very good. It was soft enough to fold over New York-style, which I am slowly starting to love doing. The crust was still a little bit crunchy though, which was another bonus. The piece was large enough to be a good deal at under $2.25. Not quite as big as Bacci's pizza, but I think it was at least cheaper. The pizza was just an appetizer for me. The burger was also quite good, and cooked to perfection. It wasn't one of my favorite burgers of all time, but still well worth the $3.94. A coworker also had some fries and I tried a few. They are the large fatter fries, not the skinny ones. I liked that they did not have much salt included (relax people, you can still add your own). My only major complaint was the fact that they charge you for a cup of water and ice. Also, I think it's bad that they charge $1.25 for a fountain drink refill. That's highway robbery for a fountain drink! They also have these really annoying garbage cans that are motion activated, and they talk. So every time somebody walks by the garbage is like "thank you for eating here!" or some other stupid crap like that. At least they're garbage cans that have compacting capabilities. Good food, decent prices, and a good amount of seating = A-OK in my book. I'd go 3.5 stars if I could.

    I won't make any claims about this being the best pizza ever. I find it very good and very reliable, but more importantly, it's the pizza that Evanstonians grow up on (there are plenty of other good, arguably better, pizza places in Evanston, but Gigio's is downtown and sells by the slice). So Gigio's always gets top honors no matter what.

    A friend who grew up in Evanston told us we couldn't be considered true Evanstonians until we had Gigio's. I am happy to report that I am now an official Evanstonian. Please, please, no applause. The pizza is good. Thin crust, nice seasoning, not too greasy, and a good value. My beef, however, is with the amount of flour, I guess, on the bottom of the crust. It was almost hard to eat it was so powdery. The crust is a nice balance of crispy and chewy, and not soggy. Hopefully the 2nd time will be the charm.

    Worst thin crust pizza I have ever had, hands-down. It tasted like cardboard with ketchup on it. They called it New York style, but it wasn't. I should know, I lived in NYC for several years. I was truly shocked at how bad this was. I should have taken a picture, since my pathetic slices looked nothing like the ones pictured on Yelp. There was hardly any cheese on them, for goodness' sake. I will never eat at this place again.

    All three of my three stars are for the taste of the pizza, which should be the most important factor in evaluating a hole-in-the-wall pizza place, especially one that is going for New York-style slices. No matter what I order, I'm pretty satisfied with the taste. What we have here is an example of how a dose of healthy competition could be beneficial to customers. Those who work at Gigio's know that this is THE place in Evanston for great thin crust slices. There aren't any other options in downtown Evanston. If you want Chicago style, there are many different choices, so the establishments need to stay on top of their A-game. Due to the fact that the customers will keep coming back to get what they want from Gigio's, the service is severely lacking. I am not the type who expects a whole lot from a hole-in-the-wall joint, but it irritates me how the guys make it clear that they really hate their jobs and could care less about their customers. The guys often touch the pizza after it comes out, so it retains the bacteria the hands have from all of the money exchanges and cleaning. If the guy forgets that I wanted my slice to go, I'll mention that it's to go, and he'll slam it in the bag without asking what I wanted on top...so I have to take it back out again to add the oregano and parmesan cheese. Sometimes I don't even get a simple "thank you" when I order. Most of the guys who worked in New York City were way more friendly and didn't hesitate to serve. They enjoyed their jobs. I think another place like this in downtown Evanston could do really well. I find myself dropping by Gigio's only occasionally...when I'm really craving that thin crust slice. It's annoying that I can't take my business (within walking distance) elsewhere.

    After watching a deep-dish pizza Throwdown with Bobby Flay some months ago, I found myself no longer able to eat Chicago deep-dish-- the sole reason being that all the Chicagoans on the show were huge assholes. I do not believe this extends to the entirety of Chicago, nor should it have anything to do with my enjoyment of a dish revered by the entire Midwest-- but you must understand that my reaction is visceral, and (at least temporarily) immutable. So, I'm pretty glad that Gigio's exists near the ol' apartment while I am displaced 800 miles from my hometown. Their pizza has much of what I like in a New York slice-- distinctively tomato-y sauce, a greasy layer of cheese on top, and most importantly, a crust that is just the right level of crunchiness: not soggy, not oily (cough "buttercrust"), not floppy, but nicely floured and with real toasty flavor. All considered, my perfect slice, when laid flat, should have a center of gravity about 3 inches from the crust. So thank you, Gigio's. The difference between Gigio's and a GOOD classic NY slice is that Gigio's cheese slice has almost too much cheese (and therefore just a bit too much salt, worse as the degree of meltedness varies). Also, NY slices are generally visibly larger. Still, not bad, especially for a random Chicago suburb. For the location, I'll pay the $2.30, even if absolute pizza brilliance costs the same back home. The establishment itself isn't the cleanest or most attractive, and actually even gives bad vibes (in part because it is awkwardly spacious and people are not friendly). And it's got nothing on classic New York pizzerias. But you know when the guy uses his bare hands to produce a slice from under the counter and stick it into the oven? I LIKE THAT.

    If you're the type of person who likes to delicately dab your pizza with a napkin before you eat it, perhaps Gigio's isn't for you. It has picnic tables. Strange wallpaper. Large flatscreen TVs that only show the weather and news headlines. Talking trashcans. Dozens of white paper bags resting on the counter in case you order your pizza to go. (Oh, you want a box for your pizza to-go? Too bad, you get a white paper bag, perfect for grease absorption.) These are some of the magical sights you see when you enter Gigio's, the best cheap pizza joint in Evanston (/the world?). On the menu, there is, of course, pizza. For about 3 bucks, you can get a slice of uber-greasy, thin-crust goodness that begs to be folded. I prefer deep dish, but for Gigio's, I make exceptions. Fountain drinks are cheap at 90 cents for a small. I've never had any of their soups or sandwiches, but the prices look decent. What surprises ME is that no one has mentioned the mozzarella sticks. For only $4 - FOUR DOLLARS - you get anywhere from 8-10 mozzarella sticks served in a red basket with a side of marinara sauce. These are the cheapest mozzarella sticks I've ever had, and, being mozzarella sticks, they are, of course, delicious. Granted, they're called "cheese sticks," making me suspicious at their mozzarella content, but if you're the kind of person who's bothered by that, then again, perhaps Gigio's isn't for you. I also have to mention the guys who work here. Two stories: 1. One hot summer day, my friend and I were buying a whole bunch of stuff from the Salvation Army in Uptown, and as we lugged a chair and microwave from Uptown to Evanston, we needed a break. We came into Gigio's with our chair and microwave. The staff saw we were resting from the physical pain of taking a microwave on the El, and they gave us some cheese sticks to make us feel better. Also, they asked if we were willing to sell the microwave. 2. I spontaneously had a birthday party here, and some of the staff were nice enough to help move tables and chairs to fit everyone, even though we hadn't asked for them to help. Nice guys!!! 5 stars for the devoted pizza joint atmosphere, the fun staff, and of course, the cheese sticks. I'd make a special trip from Chicago just to eat at Gigio's, and it's one of the things I miss most from Evanston.

    The thin crust here is amazing, you may want to dab off a bit of the grease on the top however. The other item I found to be very tasty was the hamburgers, they are charbroiled and quite large. The prices are fair, not great. They should not be charging people for ice water, this is not a good customer service move. They don't do refills on pop either. In summertime they should crank up the air conditioner a bit also. I do like their talking garbage can is "kitchy". As long as they work on some of their customer services issue they will be fine. They must sell a thousand slices of cheese pizza per day to folks from all walks of life here. They are aprox. half a block from the Davis train station.

    Single-slice pizza options are pretty limited in the Evanston area. Though Gigio's isn't the best pizza I've ever had, it's tasty, fast, and cheap. The pepperoni is by far the best of the standard options. The restaurant has a pretty old-school neighborhood feel to it, which I like. Good for a quick bite.

    The best slice of pizza N of Chicago. Looking at it, it is just a slice of pizza. But something about it keeps you coming back, even from 50 miles away. That alone says something there. No, this is not NY style pizza. It is Evanston style pizza!!! Is the service anything special.....no. But it doesn't have to be as it is about the pizza. Slices are cheese, sausage and pepperoni. They are large slices too. Yes, of course you can buy a whole pizza. Me, I like to pop in for a slice as a snack. IF it's luch, 2 or 3 slices.....then a nap.....lol. Try it, you'll like it!!

    If you can wait for your pizza to be heated, then for it to cool, you're in for a treat. It is so hot it will melt your head off. I have this vague memory the crust leaves you doing a lot of chewing but I might just be remembering my attempts to protect the roof of my mouth from the boiling sauce. I guess don't go here if you're in a rush or have a weak mouth is what I'm saying. There's enough windows you can sit in some natural light usually and dine in without feeling skeezy and smothered. This place has some atmosphere.

    Come on guys, the pizza here is GOOD. I come here when I'm in Evanston for lunch on Saturday and talk myself into easing out of my usual healthy habits for the afternoon. I get a slice of pepperoni, a slice of mushroom, and a medium Diet Coke. (Then I go across the street to Bennison's for a cannoli.) The slices are a fair size, and I don't feel that they're overpriced at all. Sure, if you come at the wrong time you might get a slice that's been sitting on the counter for thirty minutes, but that's just luck of the draw. Watch out, this place does not open until late afternoon on Sunday.

    I'm a total kid, but I LOVE this place. If my girlfriend wasn't reminding me that I might have a coronary I would probably eat there at least 3 times a week (God, that would be heaven). New York style slices without the attitude or rats and excellent EXCELLENT pizza. If I was filthy rich I would buy the joint and have it in my bathroom next to a XVT42S Vizio television (apparently I can't get that either :-(). Meal of choice: 2 slices of cheese pizza and a can of sprite at 11:30pm after a concert. Mmm... Keep it up guys!

    Stopped by for a quick lunch and the smell (of pizza) reminded me of New York, so that was a good sign. Ordered a slice of suasage pizza. It was reheated to almost bubbling the sauce and cheese and the crust was nice and crispy, but not cardboard like. Waited for it to cool down and worth the wait....it was very good, perfect amount of ingredients, well balanced. Only problem was there didnt seem to be any a/c, so it was very hot inside and outside it was 98 degrees.....

    I'm still giving it four starts for the pizza, but I was reminded yesterday how bad the service can be. I ordered for a friend and between the two of us we got 3 slices of sausage and 1 slice of pepperoni. He put the sausage in the oven and it was outstanding, but I think he forgot about the pepperoni. We started eating the sausage then about ten minutes later we asked if the other slice was ready yet. Unapologetic, he took a small slice that had been sitting out for a while and threw it onto a plate. He could have at least thrown it back in the oven for a minute. I've been coming here my whole life (25 years) and the service has been hit or miss.

    After nagging our Director to provide us lunch for our hard work to close year end, he finally ordered pizza from Gigio's. Now this is how I like my thin crust pizza. The bottom crust is still somewhat soft. Soft enough to bend the huge piece in my mouth. The outer crust is crunchy enough without breaking a filling. I had a slice of the vegetarian pizza. This isn't your ordinary slice either. The pizza is cut into big sized triangle pieces and not the typical squares. The cheese is nice and gooey without being over-the-top greasy. The toppings are plentiful, and the sauce doesn't overwhelm the pizza. I grabbed the menu off of the box in hopes they deliver to my 'hood but I didn't notice a delivery zone. What I did take note of was the time they open on Sundays. It's 2pm which means no pizza for the noon NFL games.

    If you want a slice of thin pizza fast, this is the place. Nothing fancy, you go to the counter and order, barely a wait, and your pizza is ready - it's as simple as that. One slice is large enough for me. They offer other foods besides pizza, but I haven't tried them. Street parking is always available. And after I have a slice of pizza and a root beer, I go across the street to Bennison's for some macarons.

    I'm not upset, just annoyed. Gigio's menu is on their website and GrubHub. Prices are different on both. I tried ordering a pan crust pizza which costs less than $14 on both menus. The employee tells me that the pizza is over $17. Even with delivery fee included (and there's nothing on their website about delivery fees), the pizza should still be $16 or less. I went back online to double check the price and called back. "The pizza is $17+ dollars". Not on two websites it is. I tell him that the menus need to be updated and he aggravatedly says, "I'll TELL the owner".... and hangs up on me. Granted, it was a Friday night, but that tone of voice is always inappropriate. Pizza good-ish, customer service bad (from this and past experiences).

    Gigio's is very close to my apartment...on a warm summer day the scent of garlic through the window screen is like a siren's call, making me want...no, NEED pizza. And Gigio's never disappoints. I invariably get a slice of sausage pizza, very reasonably priced at $2.50: a big, hot triangle of cheesy meaty goodness that I doctor up with dried red pepper and whatever's in the shaker labeled "Garlic Power" (not garlic powder, Garlic Power! Yeah!!). The crust is sturdy and slightly crispy on the bottom and makes the whole thing one great slice of 'za. The room itself is slightly oven-smoky (don't breathe and you'll be fine) and is pretty much lacking in atmosphere of any sort. The dozen wooden picnic tables (careful! they tip over easily!) make you feel like you're in some sort of enclosed National Park: the National Park of Yummy Pizza by the Slice. As an experiment one evening, I varied my order radically, but still came away impressed. I was cheesed off at another nearby eatery: "cough" Chipotle "cough" for having just spent $15 on two little tacos with less than one ounce of filling total between them plus a cup of canned margarita mix. I wandered down to Gigio's, being still hungry after my first "meal" and ordered a beef taco and a chicken taco. Both were good, overflowing with filling and a good homemade-tasting salsa in a squeeze ketchup bottle made them even better. Okay, the beef in the Gigio's taco was ground beef versus the barbacoa in the Chipotle version, but the Gigio's taco was just as tasty and by far the better value. I'll have to broaden my horizons and explore the Gigio's menu further. The fried mushrooms sound good, though I'm not sure they'd do an Italian beef or Chicago style hot dog justice, but it would be worth finding out in any case.

    Horrible service.. Bald young guy in the front acts like a "thug"..thinks his too cool to be polite to customers.. Also I loved the pizza so I put up with the sloppy service for a long time. Until recently when I had a slice of cheese and ended up in the emergency room with food poisoning!! These guys are dirty .. They take Ur cash and shove in the register, and use those same dirty hands to touch Ur pizza!! No gloves no nothing! I bet they don't even wash there hands after the bathroom....yuck!

    How have I never left a review for Gigio's after a decade of visits? Gigio's pizza is one of those simple things you just crave every so often. My wife is a native Evanstonian and she's enjoyed Gigio's since she was in grade school. Big floppy greasy par-baked slices are returned to the pizza oven upon ordering and are ready in a jif. As others say, this isn't quite NY-style pizza (though very foldable) but somewhere just a wee bit thicker and saucier than its East Coast brethren. I love to grab a slice each of pepperoni and sausage as both are very good and the sausage seems to be crumbles and certainly not of the awful 'rabbit turd' variety. Two slices will easily fill a hungry adult. Gigio's is a place that my wife attests is unchanged over multiple decades and is definitely worth a trip a bit out of your way!

    This place has a talking trash compactor and also a cool can smasher for recycling. You gotta eat there at least once to see it. They were green before green was cool. Gigio's is what I'd describe as a pizza JOINT. The pizza by the slice is good. The ovens are right up front which is cool because you can see 'em make the pizza right there and know exactly when it's ready and at its freshest.

    The pizza is just okay. Apparently they have some kind of credit card minimum; I just pulled out cash when they hassled the customer in front of me. Whole restaurant is really hot, not comfortable to sit inside. Employees handle money, then food, then stock utensils/napkins without washing hands or wearing gloves, which is kind of gross. The best they've got is that they're open late and their prices are fairly cheap.

    Pizza Good, when the employees aren't "cutting" it to feed themselves...I've caught these guys taking an inch off the edges several times at night,,,they use their roller knife to cut an inch off the sides, then stuff it in their face! You wind up with a smaller slice. uggh!

    I have found it close to impossible to get thin-crust NY-style pizza in Chicago. Everything is either Chicago-style or still has a pretty thick crust and I feel like all you taste is bread! Gigio's service is definitely crappy and it looks like a total hole-in-the-wall BUT their thin-crust pizza (extra well done) is the only pizza my friends and I have ordered in Chicago that hits the spot for a ny-style pizza craving! They're open late and have discount coupons on their website that you should check out.

    A number of people have commented on how rude the staff at Gigios can be. I'd like to point out that what many perceive as rudeness is really just additional seasoning; this is a New York style pizza joint after all, you should expect a New York style experience. The pizza is the best by-the-slice you can find in Chicagoland. It's always hot and always tastes fresh. If you dine in, spice things up with the labeled "Garlic Power" shaker that rests on the counter next to the more mundane red pepper flakes and parmesan. No other pizza place within 1,000 miles offers the pure Power of Garlic with each slice. I can't speak to the quality of anything else on the menu because there's simply no reason to order it when the pizza is this good.

You need to go there at the right times, It really is good pizza. They are really fast and work really hard during afternoon rushes.

    $2.50 for slice of OK pizza. It would take 3 of these for a meal. I ordered a hot dog with everything on it, and it never came out. 15 minutes later I asked the guy for it and he made it with his bare hands and put ketchup on it. Terrible. I hate Evanston.

    Everyone knows that there's no such thing as bad pizza, per se. However, the pizza here is pretty mediocre- nothing special about it. I ordered the pepperoni, which had lots of big pepperoni slices on it, but it was really greasy. The pizza is not that good but it's not that bad either (c'mon it's pizza after all). But the reason for one star is the customer service is terrible. The guy at the register was not friendly at all- he did not smile once or say hello or welcome, even when I did so. While getting the pizza he forgot what I ordered and had to ask me again. He also did not use gloves or wash his hands after touching money and then touching pizza. Due to the terrible service, I am avoiding this place from now on.

    Yummy fatty salty fries, tacos, polish sausage and chicken sandwiches. What don't they have? This is the place for filling up on unhealthy stuff on the cheap. The pizza is pretty good. The chicken soup and chili they have every day are really good. The staff here are always very nice to me and service is fast. The only thing I stay away from here are the onion rings - grease overload.

    I'm trying to lower the grade inflation I've been having a problem with here on yelp--soooo, this 3 is not an F. It's a gentleman's C, a passing grade. Dinner for two: 2 slices, 2 drinks (I like RC in the can), a large order of fries=$8.50 eat in or take out. But then again, the only horrible pizza I ever had was the plasticy south suburban aurelio's of my youth, and this place is miles above that. I like their crust better'n papa john's. The bathroom though, just...just don't.

    Gigio's thin crust Mushroom slice tastes better when I eat it quickly in the restaurant. The crust is then just fantastic. Taking it home and eating it there is okay. I don't like it reheated the next day. Service and décor ....oh well...... I go there for the taste of the thin crust. I hate that they charge $ 0.25 for water. I already pay for parking there on my way home from work.

    The guys behind the counter aren't the friendliest, but if you're in the mood for a cheap slice of pizza, this is the place to go. You order at the counter and your slice is delivered at the counter on a paper pate. Nothing fancy here. Sausage slices are good, and so is plain cheese. Be sure to dab the slices with napkins to soak up all the grease!

    This is the place to go in Evanston when it's 1am and you are in desperate need of a slice. The place might smell like Lysol, guys might be mopping the floor as you order, and you may be confined to 20% of the restaurant because all the other chairs are up on the tables, but hey - you can get a slice of decent pizza for three bucks and that's what matters.

    I've worked in Evanston for more than 25 years, and lunched here many more times than I'd care to know. I've never had a delivery, so can't speak to that aspect, but I've never had an issue with a surly server, dirty environment, mixed up order that wasn't fixed, etc. Much of staff has worked there a long time, and owner is often on hand if you've got a beef that can't be resolved. Pizza is quite good. I like to have my slices popped back in the oven a bit (makes crust a little more crispy). Pepperoni is my fave; love the veggie too. Sausage is also good. The various tacos are excellent as are the cheeseburgers. Try a cheesy beef (they load every cheese item with mozzarella). The super-sausage sandwich is unique to Gigio's, and also quite tasty. Fries, soups, chili okay. Hot dogs only so-so (but chili dogs are good.--go figure). Jeez, I eat here too often. Cheap, fast, decent. Yep, I'm a fan.

    When I was a little kid, my dad would take me over to the Tom Thumb to race slot cars. They had a big slot car track in the back room, like a giant-sized version of the little race tracks kids would have at home. Afterwards we'd head over to Gigio's for a slice. Gigio's thin crust tastes different when you eat it in the restaurant than when you order it for delivery. I'm not sure how or why they bake the pizzas differently, but the real Gigio's experience is eating a slice or two right there in the store. See? Chicago can do a thin crust. After Gigio's we'd head over to Deacon's, the dime store, and pick up some candy.

    ok so my sister raves about this pizza..and even my niece and nephews travel by Metra from WAUKEGAN lol just to go and get the pizza.. It was my moms birthday and so my sister decided we should get together there and eat some pizza.. well it was like 13 of us.. the place was spacious.. we put some tables together .. the guys takin the order were friendly.. we ordered 4 extra large pizzaz .11 jumbo drinks.. orders of cheesesticks.. like 5 orderes of fries and bill didnt pass 100 dollars.. when the pizzaz came they were HUGE .. one almost didnt fit on the tables. i was impressed.. freshly hot.. abundance of meat.. i ate a slice ..and I was full.. it was tasty.. flavorful and just delicious.. I would definately go again. it can be a group thing or they sell also pizza per slice..

    At first glance, Gigio's looks like your typical run-of-the-mill Pizza-ria, that's because it is. Score points for the huge slices they sell, but the pizza lacks in the flavor department. The crust tastes like little effort is involved and the wooden park bench-like tables inside leads one to think Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder decorated this joint. Verdict: Ok pizza for locals, just not worth traveling any distance to get this pizza.

    Good for a cheap bite, over and over again. A friend of mine says this is some of the best thin pizza in the Chicago area. I don't know what he's smoking, but it's not bad. The crust is powdered and crisp on the bottom, thin, and doesn't tear apart even though the slices are relatively huge. For about two-fiddy, you can have a quick lunch on the way to the ace hardware down the road. The basics are covered, from standard sausage, pepperoni and cheese pizza, to hotdogs, cheesedogs, and chilidogs, and other random appetizers priced average and smaverage. But don't let these other reviews fool ya; this place ain't got the chops for serious pizza-ing, and it definitely isn't a dirty hole in the wall. It's somewhere inbetween, and there's nothing wrong with that.

    Thin, grease-dripping, perfect pizza. Simple.... not braggy or over-reaching like those famous Chicago pizzas... no crazy toppings or piled high layers.... just humble, simple, delicious, and perfect. To me, even pepperoni is too flashy. I get two plain cheese slices and an RC cola... damn! I've been going to Gigio's for over 20 years. I'm so glad it's all the way up in Evanston or I might be there everyday for lunch.

    Damn, all you haters need to STEP OFF! I've been going to Gigio's for many years now, and despite a minor tiff in middle school (in which my stepmom blacklisted the place for not allowing her inside with rollerblades), have been nothing but satisfied. To debunk the myths: 1. "It's too greasy" Well, nothing to debunk really, but who doesn't want greasy pizza? They have salads too, if you're into that kind of thing. 2. "It's Chicago--we can find better pizza" Yeah, if you're looking for deep dish (if you're in Evanston, check Carmen's), but this is thin crust. Delicious thin crust too. 3. "The only good thin crust pizza is in New York" Please, don't get me started. Pizza is as good as how you make it, not where. And it may not be the same as Ray's or whatever, but does Ray's also serve fries? Didn't think so. There you have it. Personally, I go for the sausage or mushroom. Or both.

    Basic, decent NY thin crust that I grew up on. If that's what you're looking for, this is a pretty good choice, though a takeout whole pie cooked to order is usually better than the reheated slices, the latter being inconsistent in quality. Chicago has a lot more good thin crust pizza than it had when I moved here35 years ago, so I wouldn't tell anyone to go out of their way for Gigio's, but since I live nearby it works for my occasional pizza pangs.

    Frankly, the only time I've enjoyed their pizza was when I had it somewhere else as a carry-out or delivered pizza (and then before I knew where it came from. In this "blind" setting - I've actually found the pizza to be quite tasty. I know some people claim that this location in this pizzaria chain is actually the CLEANEST of the bunch. Another friend says "Pizza at Giogio's? - I thought they only sold drugs in there..."

    2 slices & Bennisons a day added 90lbs to my frame since 2000. This has to be my favorite pizza in the world. I grew up on this. I hope I can get to the point in my dieting at 1 slice is enough to eat, but until then, I'm staying away, too tempting. I've had EVERYTHING from the menu. Lately when I go, I get a cup of soup and a salad. Things to try when you're sick of having pizza: meatball sandwich beef tacos (not really tacos in a traditional sence, but very filling and good if eaten in with salsa that the one guy's wife makes and brings in-green) Gigio's Super Sausage (it's flat, with peppers, it's good, just eat it) Cheese Fries Cheeseburger (wife's favorite) Still, when I was ordering this regularly, I liked a small sausage & pepperoni. Typical Evanston day for me in the past: pick up my hold pile from Vintage Vinyl (yes, I shopped here before I worked here), see Kevin & Mr.Greensleeves (-the "wear your bike helmet guy"), get 2 slices, drive home eating them.

    Why do I love Gigio's? Let me count the ways: When I get off the phone with Gigio's order taker, he always tells me the pizza will arrive in 45 minutes to an hour. We don't have to wait that long for cheesy, greasy goodness. The delivery driver is ringing my buzzer within 25 minutes! There's more! Because Gigio's offers a free delivery coupon with every delivery , a person can get their pizza for far less than $20 - before tip, of course. Lou Malnati's wishes they could make me this happy.

    Gigio's has really great thin crust, and it's definitely one of my top spots for pizza by the slice. It's very underappreciated (people get fooled into thinking that Lou's or Giordano's are better pizza options), and it stinks not being able to go there on a regular basis now that I don't live in Evanston anymore. Yay, Gigio's - you are cheap and delicious and I miss you.

    Flat crust!?! Thank goodness I have found you! A taste of east coast style boardwalk pizza all the way out here in the midwest! Though if I were comparing this to something back in NJ, the points would drop off a bit. Around here, gigio's has the right ratio of crust to cheese. It's slightly sketchy, but the picnic tables inside give it a summer feel.

    Gigio's is sacred ground: Evanston, home to Northwestern, was always a pretty nifty place to go for shopping and/or a cheap date. A lot's changed over the years, but gigio's is still consistent with their pizza slices and they're close to everything from the train to the bakery. So, grab a paper, buy a slice and mellow out. Gigio's is a local place that is or was, according to urban myth, where John Travolta liked to hang out when he was in town because his sister lived nearby. Spartan at best, it is pretty clean and the food's ---well--- fast and they did supply them little packs of chili sprinkles for the 'zza. Loved the beef, too. Expect the crew to heat the slice for you and it'll be crunchy enough to make up for any shortcomings. When I worked nearby, I haunted the place not for much more than the veggie pizza slice and, like somebody else said, a can of pop for four bucks. Now, combine that with a leisurely stroll through Evanston's nearby rose garden and the day is pretty good. For a guy on an hour's lunch break, a visit to the nearby Mexico Shop or recycled records and used CD stores kept me from wanting to die of crappy-day-job syndrome. To this day, I still shoot over to gigio's whenever I'm in Evanston, regardless of the reason for being there.

    I'm really not a pizza-lover but I come here all the time with my daughter. They are fast and cheap and she eats. Yay! I remember coming here back when I ate junk food religiously in high school and eating cheese fries and all that stuff. I liked it when I liked that kind of food. I have eaten here on occasion with my daughter and her friends though and I really would love to know why the vegetarian slice is more than almost any other pizza? I think it borders on $3! Why pray tell? Take your kids here and they'll definitely be satisfied!

    I'm originally from the east coast and consistently found myself disappointed with Chicago pizza, and the supposed NY style pizza joints in the area. Gigio's is the best pizza place around. I've been going here for years now and have never had a problem that wasn't quickly resolved. Fryer isn't working? No big deal, here's a free slice of pizza. Staff is friendly and will joke around with the customers, not to mention the slices of pizza are the cheapest around. Hands down the best pizza by the slice place in Chicagoland.

    For those of who miss NYC NJ style thin crust pizza with great sauce this is the place in Chicagoland. Informal atmosphere, always hot an ready by the slice . Even the trash cans thank you for your visit.

    The Gigio's on Broadway is my most favorite pizza place ever ...EVER! This pizza is just like it , but in the way Don Swayze looks like Patrick , and Frank Stallone Looks like Sly. They are just a bit off , a mere chromosome away. I have deduced that the recipe is the exact same , but the Evanston location is much newer and way cleaner and nicer , and therefore they probably have newer ovens. I'll bet that the Broadway Gigio's has decades of pizza grease curing the metal in the oven , like a properly cured cast iron skillet. Honestly the difference is barely noticeable , but noticeable none the less. The prices are cheap , especially compared to some other places in Evanston. They also serve RC cola products , RC is kind of like the Pabst Blue Ribbon of colas, and I love it. Gigio's rocks , order some now ... do it , do it now!

    This is one of those typical quick n dirty Chicago joints where you can get low/moderate quality pizzas, sandwiches, hot dogs, or burgers for relatively cheap. I typically frequent these places if there's nowhere else to go. The food's not terrible but I don't understand the high praise some people are giving the pizza.

    This place is not exactly clean. I would not recommend going in and ordering something without ordering ahead, as most of the stuff that can be made in a short amount of time is really not good. The only decent thing here is the pan pizza. The crust is actually good.

    I agree with Syed A, the guy that took my money also used the same dirty, dried, cracked hands to get my pizza. The pizza (minus the crust) was mediocre, nothing special. I wouldn't say I would go back as Evanston is a trek for me and the guy left me with a bad impression (dirty, dirty man. Shame on you for not using gloves or washing your hands!!).

    This is a great little pizza joint I accidentally stumbled upon while I was living in Evanston. Its not far from the movie theater so I still go there. The place looks run down and the seating is on rickety tables and wooden benches but the pizza is great and cheap. You can get it by the slice but for the best tasting pizza order a whole one. They give coupons when you get a pizza to go (free delivery, or a discount on an extra large). Perhaps one of the best restaurants in Evanston.

    Another place that failed in my quest to find REALLY good NY style pizza in Chicago. Not that this was all that bad--in fact, it might even be better than most places in Chicago. Open at all hours and pretty cheap for a slice which isn't too greasy. They have a bunch of other options too like steak tacos, etc which is just weird at a pizza joint. But I guess they're an all-around place that'll serve you whatever you want whenever you want it.

    I'm sure there is better pizza out there somewhere, but this place is such a gem. All kinds of people here, but not too many rich students to spoil the atmosphere. Come during lunchtime, the pizzas are coming one after another out of the oven and the slices are hot. Love the pepperoni. When I was pregnant and working nearby I probably walked here once a week for a grease fix and they guys behind the counter always smiled, no bad-mom vibes here even as I ordered fries and a can of root beer on the side. (My child is perfectly healthy and fit, as am I. So there.) If you want anything with goat cheese or arugula, or even some nasty stomachache-in-a-pan, please stay far away. No snobs allowed. Oh yeah, and a cupcake at Bennison's across the street truly completes the experience.

    Hands down the best pizza in chicago (area). Perfect crust, perfect sauce, perfect proportions, slightly garlicy. What more could you ask for? They do pizza by the slice (cheap too) or get a pie. If your looking for good New York style pizza and don't mind the drive to Evanston (just north of the city, off LSD) DO IT!!

    fast as pizza hell. counter guys must have some family interest in keeping things flowing smoove. something nice about slice price of $2.50 / pay three dollars / and get a quarter back after tax is added. nice ballpark feel that says "no time to count change...serving" fresh bready dough i like and not too greasy. it's what jersey pizza should strive to be.
