Sandwiches are fantastic!! They will be the only thing I purchase from here going forward. We had a groupon that allowed us to try the soup, and it was pretty gross. The service was fantastic the first time we went, but the second time it was not as good (and we went in the middle of the day on a Saturday). So... sandwiches = fantastic Soup=gross Service=Alright

Great food for a drunken night. Not sure, though, that it's at all consistent. I try not to go here often based on how BAD the food is for you. The price is high (for a sandwich) but I like their half sandwich combos! I will say they SUCK at getting the orders right for groups. We had about 20 of us come out from work and not only was the food not brought out in order, but we ended up with 2 extra sandwiches of one kind and short 3 sandwiches of another. They argued a bit about who ordered what but in the end honored the "customer is always right" policy. Overall this place is okay. Not something that I would go out of my way for!

That atmosphere is really cool and the food was good. I wouldn't say it was really that great and I was quite disappointed with the tomato soup. I ordered the Napolean which was supposed to have crumbled bleu cheese and I didn't and I felt like they skimped on the bacon big time. $9 for a cheese sandwich and not enough bacon? Disappointing.

Love the Mac n cheese grilled cheese sandwich. The tomato soup is a bit disappointing. Has no flavor to it. Definitely wouldn't recommend getting it. Would go back again.

Disappointed. Heard a lot about this place and did not get what we really expected. Prices are nice and the staff was friendly and attentive when needed but the food was sort of lack luster. The fried pickles were definitely over fried, almost too crispy to enjoy, the Chicken tortilla soup was really gross. Tasted just like heavy cream heated up with a packet of taco seasoning and Chunks of chicken and nothing else. The sandwiches we had were really good and what we had expected but everything else was not worth the drive to Evanston. We will give the other location a shot and see if it differs but do not have high hopes of coming back, esp to this location.

Another location as part of the chain. I think it's genius to put a location smack dab near Northwestern campus and to have a delivery option. This is a lot smaller than the Wrigleyville location, but still worth it for their delicious sandwiches. It's pretty much like their other location in terms of offerings, tasty sandwiches and beer, just in a smaller space. Their food is still pretty damn tasty for fancy grilled cheese sammies.

While one of their best sellers is the mac n cheese grilled cheese I would not order it again. It was very bland and greasy. My daughter had that with fries (very good similar to Arby's curly fries) and I had the special called the Edgar. It had pulled pork with I believe 2 kinds of cheese and coleslaw. It was delicious! I ordered the tortilla soup with mine, it wasn't bad but I would get the fries next time. The only negative was our too go order was totally wrong. My other daughter really liked the sandwich she got but it wasn't what I had ordered for her. I will definitely be going back but if I get anything to go, we'll check it before we leave.

I have gone to Cheesie's quite a few times, mainly because they offer extra miles through the American Airlines dining portal. Every time, I end up spending over $10 for a grilled cheese, fries, and drink. Every time, I am disappointed at something. Either the food isn't that great, or the service is really slow, or I just feel slightly ripped off as a whole. During the lunch rush, I have waited 30+ minutes for my grilled cheese. The last time I was in, it took about 25 minutes and there was only one other table in the whole place. I know that these are "gourmet" grilled cheeses, but sometimes I don't feel like they are worth the time and money, especially when you can go to Edzo's (or even Potbelly) right around the corner for cheaper (and faster). I'd probably end up going again if there was a group of co-workers going, but for now I think I'm going to stop going by myself.

Take home : dissatisfied. I asked the guy if everything was in the bag he said yes. Arrived home hungry from shopping and I got plain soggy tatter tots I paid for loaded tatter tots. I also ordered The Popper, as it is my favorite Grilled Cheese. But again disappointment set in...soggy and greasy bread. Like they were in a hurry. I spoke with the new manager and he stated that they would give me a gift card for not giving me what I paid for...loaded tatter tots. I gave him my name and #. Hopefully, they will be honest about that or refund my money the next time I stop in. They stapled the list receipt on my bag. Frank is the guy who took my order and rang me up from the beginning and he handed me the bag. Again, I asked him if everything was in there and his reply was yes. What a crock of baloney. I will review this place again when I receive my gift card or refund. We will see! NO CALL NO GIFT CARD JUST A BUNCH OF MALARKY!

It's your stomach's worst nightmare... especially if you are lactose intolerant. Your mouth drools when it sees the exorbitant amount of gooey, stretchy cheese between the soft cloud-like Texas toast slices. And how can you not get a side of crunchy, but juicy tator tots. Crunchy, yet oily enough that whenever you bite into one, a little bit of oil sprays onto the roof of your mouth. Best place to go when you need some comfort, and you need something warm and fat on the Chicago blizzard days. Yes, it's your digestive system's worst nightmare but you will probably fall asleep shortly after eating and forget about it till next morning and curse your poor choices.

This was fantastic. I was in the area for a business trip and Cheesies was recommended by a colleague who lives in the area. I'm so glad I checked it out, and I liked it so much I brought some friends a few days later. They also loved the food and atmosphere. It has a college pub feel with lots of TVs and a good mix of beers. You walk in and order at the counter. The staff were great each time I went, and the first time she gave me a quick run down of the top selling sandwiches. What really makes this place is the food. It is a simple menu in the sense that they make grilled cheese sandwiches. However, they take grilled cheese to a delicious extreme. I tried the Tenderizer - Texas toast grilled cheese with chicken strips, bacon, and BBQ sauce. Probably the best grilled cheese I have ever had. I got it with season fries, which were also amazing. They were crispy and flavorful, the way fries should be. If you are wanting it extra cheesy, you can even get a grilled cheese with mac 'n cheese inside. Also delicious. If you are in the mood for some cheesy comfort food, this is the place. Definitely worth checking out.

We were looking for a place to meet my brother who was in town plus one for my daughters-one likes the lighter side, one likes meat and cheese and the other is young and likes kids meals. All three plus my wife, brother and I were happy. I had the Napoleon with cheddar and blue cheese and bacon and tater tots and hot sauce and it was just right. Everybody else loved theirs, ordering Frenchies, Mac and the Albanese which was a play on a Philly Cheese Steak and was a daily special. We used a groupon too which really worked well. Good for all ages but most of the clientele was college kids. 6 sandwiches, 1 soup, 1 chili, 3 beers, 2 lemonades, and the bill was $25 plus the $19.95 groupon.

Ate here for a late night post movie meal. I had the chili and some chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were inoffensive and the chili tasted like water - no spices at all it seemed like to me. My friends had various sandwiches and those were bland at best. I wish I didn't have to say this but we made a pact to not go back.

Despite the name, I found Cheesie's to be not that cheesy. It was a bit disappointing. Everything looked good from the menu and the interior but after one bite of my grilled cheese, I wasn't impressed. I was hoping for all the things that I love about grilled cheese sandwiches elevated to a new level but it didn't happen. We ordered the mac and cheese sandwich, the napoleon, mac and cheese balls, sweet potato fries, tater tots, and chicken tenders. Then I realized that there was something missing - alcohol. I'm sure that this place would be much more enjoyable after a round of bar hoping. To the young, naïve, and intoxicated, do not come here sober. Truth be told, I ended up going home and made myself a real grilled cheese sandwich. White Wonder bread, butter, and American cheese - done. Sometimes, you can't mess with the classics.

This is some pretty good heart attack-inducing, greasy, fat-filled grilled cheese sandwiches. The Tenderizer and Frenchie taste great. The portion size is pretty big, and the food is heavy enough to ensure you'll eat your fill when you come here. I would say this place is only worth it on Wednesdays, when their whole menu is half off.

Best grilled cheese I've ever damn had. Superbly tasty when drunk. Only thing that annoys me is sometimes the wait time and definitely the price. I shouldn't have to pay $10 for a grilled cheese dinner no matter how delicious it is. $8 is more fair. But when you're drunk out really don't care about prices now do you?
(4)
Matt R.
This place is so odd. They have some kind of eating contest that makes me think of the heart attack hotel restaurant. Something like "Eat a 4lb grilled chese + 1lb of fries" contest. Which is about as disgusting as it sounds. I'm not going to be trying that. However, as noted - sometimes you do indeed want a grilled cheese sandwich. This place thankfully didn't use as much oil as I had expected in the burgers, but it was still quite a lot. I suppose you can't really get away from oil. I got the popper, which had good fresh jalapeno in it and also got the fried pickles, which were actually pretty decent. In terms of pickles I'd say that apple holler is #1, farmhouse is #2, and this place is #3. There are a lot of places far worse, but I wouldn't be afraid to get the fried pickles here. Meanwhile, I'm not sure if my stomach will approve of eating here again - but I do note that it was completely empty as well. I'll add my photos later, but overall this place is okay. It's just not amazing/impressive, and I don't expect it to last. How many places have been swapped at this location?

I had a Groupon for this place, so I thought I would try it out. The macaroni and cheese balls were freaking delicious, especially with the dipping sauce. The sandwich I had was pretty good too. I ordered the caprese sandwich, which has mozzarella and tomatoes. I do not always like big tomatoes, which affected my feelings about the sandwich a little. However, I did appreciate the pairing with the pesto sauce. I would definitely go to this place again when I am in the area.

a friend took me here a while back.. i still remember the service was pretty good and the girl that worked there was friendly.. i ordered the.. The Melt - it has American cheese, Chihuahua cheese, marinated chicken breast, bacon, Thousand Island and tomato on Texas toast. Served with creamy pesto mayo dipping sauce... i thought it was just alright.. you would think there would be more cheese in there with a place named cheesie's.. loaded tater tots - it has cheese and chili on it.. loaded usually come with sour cream also but this place doesnt..kind of disappointed about that.. other then that.. it was pretty good...

As much as I'd like to consider myself a Chicago dining savant with a distinguishing palate, there are times when I just got to eat crap. And not just ordinary crap. I'm talking over-processed, county fair deep-fried, comfort-you-after-a-bad-day, kill-you-with-a-smile-on-your-face crap. Cheesie's fits the bill to a T. Came here on Sunday night with a friend after feeling incredibly indecisive about dinner and couldn't find parking in front of Lao Sze Chuan. As we walked in, we marveled over the diverse menu on the wall and Capri-Sun in the cooler. We decided to split the Tenderizer with a side of tater tots. As we sat down, I admired the artwork on the walls that paid tribute to some of Northwestern's famous alumni, like Michael Wilbon of ESPN and Stephen Colbert and watched highlights from the Clippers-Warriors game on one of their many HDTVs. But I didn't have long, as our food arrived with the quickness. The Tenderizer is an impressive beast, with cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, hot sauce, bacon, fried chicken tenders and Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. The best part? It was served on Texas Toast. If you know anything about sandwiches, if you're gonna go big, you gotta go with Texas Toast. It's the only bread that's fit to the task of cradling a gutbomb. One bite, and I was in processed cheese heaven. Each successive bite was a swirl of sweet and spicy, chicken and cheese, all mixing together in perfect harmony. And as for the tots? Fried up crispy and hot, with just a dash of salt and a side of ranch dressing. Just how I like 'em. Blair was incredibly friendly and accommodating, giving us sides of chipotle and pesto mayo at no additional charge. When I complimented his establishment, he gave me and my partner the VIP bracelet, entitling us to 10% off our orders in the future and $4 drinks. This was the hardest time I've had giving a rating for a restaurant. I'm fully aware that I ate nothing but shameful crap. But damn it, it was really good crap that put a smile on my face and satisfied me fully. As I write this, I want to drive out to Evanston and get another Tenderizer and sneak it into the Century Theater while watching a movie. And isn't that what dining should be about? Enjoying and appreciating not just the ingredients and taste, but the experience as well? A well-earned 5-star rating. Nice to know I've got another late night post-drinking crap food option in Evanston other than Burger King.

This place has some unique sandwich types, but it is pretty greasy. So be prepared for that. The late night college crowd mostly keeps this place going as they are open until 3 am. Later at night the service quality isn't great, but that is likely the fact they deal with drunk college kids all the time. Still that shouldn't be an excuse. Price is a bit high at 6-8 bucks for a grilled cheese. Granted they are specialty (Mac and cheese on a grilled cheese, bacon, sauces, etc) Overall- if you want higher quality food pick elsewhere. If you are okay with really good grease food this is the place for you.

1) I came here twice. I ordered the sweet potato fries, because THEY ARE DELISH. 2) I ordered the caprese, tenderizer, & the melt (split across friends of course because they are huge). All good, but not worth the original price. So go on Wednesdays when it is half off 3) Service: 1st time I came here it SUCKED because they aren't that great at handling a lot of orders. 2nd time I came, it was average delivery, and they cleaned up after us. 4) Don't come in here with nice clothes. You will smell like it for days.

I had Cheesies on my to go bookmarked for quite some time now, and I'm thinking that the original location in Chicago is where it's all at, but Evanston just worked out that night when I chose to finally venture out in Chiberia to experience a warmy gooey grilled cheese sandwich. We came on a Monday night around 7pm and the place was empty, I mean maybe one other table there, which you would think it would be more packed during dinner time and the place isn't small in size by any means. Anyways, you place your order up front and pay right away and then they give you a number to get seated. We weren't sure what we wanted so we each decided to get something different and to share. I went with the Original for $4.50 which is basically American cheese and Merkt's Cheddar cheese on Texas toast and it comes with a tomato dipping sauce. I dived right into it and it was pretty nice, perfectly melted, enough to be gooey but not dripping and not clumpy at all, definitely enjoyed my half a lot. My friend ordered the Mac for $6.50 which is basically the same concept as mine but just added with macaroni and cheese. At first, I thought it would be a little too much carbs because who really eats macaroni with bread?! Well, it wasn't bad. I wouldn't say I loved it, but I didn't hate it either. However, what was weird is there were little chunks of possibly something that looked like bacon in it, it didn't smell like bacon, but what was it? That kinda made us think twice about it, but what do you know, we still gobbled it right up. Maybe they accidentally added it by mistake, but my friend doesn't eat bacon so that's a no no. She also ordered these sweet potato fries and I didn't get them because although I normally love sweet potato fries, the girl up front told me they are frozen. Frozen they were, but they didn't taste like sweet potato fries, more like this weird hybrid of a french fry. I guess we left full and satisfied, but neither of us loved the place. I guess if you come here stick to the basic grilled cheese sandwich with the dipping sauce, which was tasty but I wouldn't get anything else here. My advice for them is to start serving up some REAL french fries. It will make everything taste that much better. Cheesies, if I lived right by you, I would stop by on the winter nights, but don't know if I'd make another special trip.

I've been here twice and will never go back. The first time, we saw those handling our food wiping their mouths and picking up garbage without washing their hands before handling the food. Tonight was worse- while waiting (and only 5 other guests were in there, having already been served and seated) the two men responsible for getting our food cussed and goofed around, seemingly too busy to place a sandwich in a bag. When they finally meandered over to the kitchen, they were wiping their mouths and faces before going to grab the food. When I said I'd rather place my own food in my bag and that what they were doing is a health code violation, they said. "So don't come back." Don't worry. We won't.

After a long night of vodka-guzzling, brothel-hopping, and questioning pretentious college students about whether Nogai Khan had a positive effect on Bulgaria, Cheesie's is the perfect place for some food. The sandwiches are good, but the sides (cheese curds especially) are what make this place special. The biggest problem however, is that all of these Northwestern students think they're sooo smart just because they're at a prestigious college. Have any of them ever cut a Mongol's throat whilst taking an arrow to the shoulder? Have any of them ever watched a man die from a pike through the skull? No. These young men and women know nothing about what life is actually like. Anyway, go here for a snack!

Alright, first things first I am a HUGE fan of Cheesies... Delicious food, good drinks, TYPICALLY good people.... That wasn't the case on this sad, sad day in the cold Chicago January. I frequent the Lakeview Cheesies and will be staying there. The Evanston branch has the worst service! I waited in line while the cashier chatted with his friends about local news and other useless things and I (starved like a homeless child) waited to order. Then when I sat down I could see my food waiting as the server was taking SHOTS with guys at the bar. It only goes down hill from here: next the sever comes back to the window to retrieve the food and dicks around with sauces until he finally decides to pack up ALL the to go orders while my food sits on the window. 15 minutes later food cold and sad, myself in tears the idiot finally delivers my precious cheese. Needless to say, I'm staying in the city to get my cheese fix. Xoxo cheese boy.

I love the concept, but the service and food falls way short. First, service, well lack there of. My friends and I walked in and waited several minutes before anyone came to welcome us. The person taking our order had the personality of a piece of the texas toast really. We sat at our table and waited. Our food was up but the host/order taker, was also the server. We had to wait on him and our food. Second, the food. I had the Mac and Cheese sandwich. I love grilled cheese, I lived on them a whole year when I was 5. I was so looking forward to my sandwich and it looked great, then I ate it. The Mac and Cheese had been frozen and reheated, so bad. Mac and Cheese is so easy to make and should be fresh. This place could be great, but it needs to improve.

Sometimes you just want a grilled cheese sandwich. And when you do, you're not looking for health food. That's a good thing, because mine was perfect--which is to say redolent with the butter the bread was grilled in. Yum. And since we're binging, I have to say that the fires are the best in Evanston--and I'm including Five Guys (yuck) and Edzo's (meh) in that assessment. They're my favorite kind, battered and fried to a crispy outside crunch, yes fluffy in the middle, and perfectly seasoned. Sandwich, fries and a drink for $8. What's not to like? My waistline is just glad the place isn't any closer to home.

"Ain't nobody got time for that!" And by 'that', I mean all the fab items on the menu! We were here on a rainy Saturday when it was my birthday weekend and I chose a bunch of places on my Yelp bookmarks that I wanted to try or visit. It was so fun, I highly reccommend you do that, too. Yelptastic! Anyhoo, Eva helped us choose which items were best as first timers to the joint, and she was sweet and patient, perhaps also because it was such a slow day that day. But, you could also tell that she is one of those happy and energetic people that are like that every day of the year, and not in an annoying way. :) So, on to all things cheese! This place is a grilled cheese lover's paradise! They offer about 8 sandwiches from which to choose, with a wide variety of cheeses like Merkdt, mozz, chihuahua and more. Couple that with chorizo, jalapenos, bacon, chicken breast, mac and cheese (IN the sandwich!), chives, tomato...I mean, the combos are endless. We decided to share The Melt: American cheese, Chihuahua cheese, marinated chicken breast, bacon, Thousand Island and tomato on Texas toast. Served with creamy pesto mayo dipping sauce. It was $8.50 but this baby was huge and loaded with ooey, gooey melty deliciousness. I was glad we were sharing, but sad I wasn't able to try other sandwiches as well. The fried cheesecurds were awesome. So were the fried mac and cheese bites, better than most I've had. The chicken with wild rice soup was delicious, perfect for my cold. Needless to say, but I will, the grilled cheese was outstanding. I mean it was perfect for a rainy day, not so much for our hearts. But hearts be damned, it was my birthday! So between the service, the colorful walls and adorable spray painted art, and the cheesy awesomeness that is Cheesie's- you can bet my now and forevermore fat ass will definitely be finding a seat again at Cheesie's. I'd like to blame them, but it was like that when I came in. ;}

I LOVE this place! I had my first experience at Cheesies a few weeks ago, the service and ambiance was fantastic! This is a perfect place for comfort food! Put on your elastic pants or what I like to call fat pants and dine here! I had the Mac with a side of sweet potato fries and it was delicious! I can totally see this place being busy in the fall and winter months. I will keep it busy during the summer months because now that I have experienced what Cheesies has to offer I want to get cheesy with them! :)

The Groupon deal is awesome and they are great about honoring it! They also have a lot of delicious and different beers on tap. I haven't had a sandwich that I did't love here, and he wait staff is really cool, too!

great groupon deal and quick service Although standing in line at a festival seems to make the sandwich tastes so much better because you had to earn it!

I visited this establishment late Friday night, and it was pretty empty. Service was pretty slow regardless, and our food was delivered warm rather than hot, with a pathetically small serving of sauce. I typically order the Frenchie (with texas toast instead of sourdough), and I tend to enjoy it, but while I would give that sandwich (and a few of the others) four stars, I feel that there are some items that just aren't worth the price tag - high for what are essentially glorified grilled cheese sandwiches - and mediocre fries. By no means should you ever order the original sandwich. It's boring and kind of gross and the cheese congeals in seconds and the tomato sauce looks mostly brown and its just not that great. You have been warned.

All I need to say is that I don't like cheese (blasphemy I know).... but I like cheesies. You're probably going to hate yourself and feel your arteries clogging withe every bite, but it is worth it (once in a while).

This location is NOTHING like the one on Belmont. They have fewer beers, the wait staff is less than basic. The sandwiches are really not as good as the Original location. Which is a total bummer because I LOVE CHEESIES! I have given this location 4 fair tries and was not satisfied with any of my trips. If you're looking for the OG of grilled cheese- please save yourself for the Cheesies on Belmont St!

There are only 3 reasons why I would ever go to Cheesie's again. 1. It's past 2AM, and I'm too lazy to walk anywhere. 2. I'm drunk, and I'm sick of BK. 3. I want Capri Sun. ... or maybe a combination of all 3.

For a concept, I'd give this place give stars. However, execution is only two. Service was slow and uninterested in the customers. We ordered two appetizers and two classic sandwiches. When the food finally came out, it was all together. The sandwiches were not hot, the cheese was congealed, rather than gooey. If you can't get gooey cheese in a grilled cheese shop, just close now. The fried pickles were dry, all breading, no pickle juice or flavor. The loaded tots may have been good, I just didn't care for the peppers on them, so I won't judge them. I really wanted to like this place and had been looking forward to going there... Oh well

Today I had my first experience with Cheesies. I wanted to love it, but I just can't. I understand that going to a place named Cheesies is not going to be a healthy option, however hours later I'm still feeling it. I ordered the napleon with bacon, tots and two cheeses. Despite my love for cheese, I couldn't help but feel it just wasn't the best quality of cheese. I don't think it was the bread because other members of the group had different types of bread; however we all complained of it being terribly salty. It was bacon salty, it certainly tasted like it was the cheese. Cheddar to be specific. Overall, the place was clean and the lunch deal for $8 was fairly priced. However I just don't see myself going back here any time soon. If I do, I think I might order a salad instead.

Used to like this place when it first opened, now it has gone down hill. As I type my significant other is puking after eating here. While there the music was blasting and couldn't hear myself think. One of the employees(indian guy with a fauxhawk) was drinking while on the job (knew this since the lady that seemed like she was in charge(or attempting to be) said to him you're working and drinking. Looks like other employees that work there as well were drinking. Food took almost 20 min to come out as well. You would think that after their Lakeview location was on Mystery Diners I believe it was, that both locations would be up to snuff. Maybe time to reach out to the show again for a squeal for this location. Won't be going here again. Wish there was a way to contact them, but their website has zero feedback option.

Totally worth it!! Taste is excellent, I tried two sandwiches and I could not have been happier! Unless of course I had a third sandwich. Price is about $6-$8 per sandwich, but well worth it. Atmosphere is a good ol' joint with country tunes on the speakers. The person who runs the place is cool too! Def will be hitting up this place again!

Grill cheese to the hundreth power!!! How can you go wrong with a grill cheese stuffed with jalepenos and stacks of cheese?! I tried the mac n cheese grill cheese and the jalepeno grill cheese, both amazing and just writing this review has be craving that cheesey goodness!!! The one thing I don't recommend is the fried pickles. I am a sucker for a dill pickle and fried just makes it all that much better but these pickles lost their luster with all the batter. I commend them for finding a way to keep the crispy batter on the pickle but by doing so the flavor of dill was lost. I had to peel of at least one side of the batter to taste any pickle. Overall can't wait to go back after a much needed workout! :)

I ordered delivery from this place for the first time last week (a grilled cheese with bacon and a side of fries). I have never had their food before. I must admit, my friend and I agreed that what we had (can't remember what she ordered) can be considered solid drunk food, but it otherwise was verging on being too greasy and was mediocre flavor wise.

OMG is so good.....but probably not the healthiest option I had the Napoleon sandwich and side of sweet potato fries. The Napolean is American cheese sandwich with bacon, blue cheese and tater tots. It was all very good and rationalized that I had some: Cheese -dairy, bacon - protein vegetable -sweet potato fries. They also have full bar of some awesome ales like flying dog.

The food here is incredible. So innovative with grilled cheese and the menu is really cool. Wouldn't recommend for a non-grilled cheese lover, but really, how many in this world are there? The dipping sauces are perfect and my tastebuds were pretty happy. Perfect cheat day meal or wasted-after-2 meal.

After my first few times and loving it, I was sorely disappointed this round. This time it was a mess. It took almost an hour for food, and it came out super greasy and just tasting ehhh... Not to mention many of the other patrons were so blitzed out of their minds, and one of them bumped into and spilled something on me. And that something was of questionable origin. :(

I love this concept. Glad to see they opened a location in Evanston. It'll be a perfect fit with NW next door. Any kind of grilled cheese you can imagine. We picked up an order to go. I wasn't expecting the sammich to hold up all the way home, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Texas toast is awesome and packed with yuminess. I also like to grab a side cup of tomato soup. Perfect compliment to the grilled cheese.

Two words: drunk food. You can tell that at least one NU student agrees with me, especially late on a saturday night, as there will be at least one orange splotch a couple steps outside of the restaurant. Bleh. To be fair, the food isn't bad - it's just not anything special. And given that they're not cheap (~$8 for a sandwich, all by its lonesome), I'm not sure it's worth it. But it is nice that there's another late night option for Evanston. Went for the "frenchie" - french fries, two types of cheeses, chives, and bacon between two slices of french toast bread. It came with a side of sour cream for dipping. It basically was like a baked potato, sandwich style. Maybe I'll try something a little more adventurous next time... if there is a next time.

This place is great. Grilled cheese is one of my all time favorite things to eat, and this place does not disappoint. You can everything from your ordinary grilled cheese with tomato dip, to a caprese grilled cheese with tomato and mozzarella, to more loaded sandwiches with french friends and chicken tenders on them. The menu fits whatever you're in the mood to eat. Dipping sauces are all great and fit each sandwich well. Also, the location is prime for Northwestern students and the very late hours and delivery service make it super convenient. Definitely recommend stopping by, especially if you find yourself at 2 AM looking for a bite to eat!

I detest Cheesie's. I've been there 3 times. The first time, I ate there. The service was okay. I go to Northwestern, had heard it was popular and decided to splurge on an $8 sandwich that wasn't all that impressive (definitely not worth the money, though). They did have tater tots, and i LOVE tater tots so, what the hell. The atmosphere really depends on how many students are there, but it's casual, can be loud and not for people who don't like its forced hipness. Whatever, though. Second time, a friend and I went for a sandwich and tater tots. We waited for THIRTY MINUTES while they served other people (a large group). I was shocked that even the tots were taking this long and demanded my money back. I turned down the food because I was very frustrated. A cute little atmosphere doesn't help when your food is taking forever and a bit cold when you get it. My friend and I left, with a whole new disdain for the restaurant. He ended up keeping his sandwich, but it wasn't even that great. I would hope that a place DEDICATED to making grilled sandwiches could crank them out with some speed, but apparently not. I wasn't in the mood for their excuses as to why it was taking so long because there's really no excuse for making someone wait 30 minutes for tater tots, no matter how many people are there. Most of the patrons seated and being served already had their food by the time I arrived, also, so I was pretty crabby. I just left the place. I had a pick-up order for tater tots (really feeling a hankering for my fried crack) and when I arrived there was nobody at the counter and a guy already waiting. I asked if he was waiting to be served - yes. After about 2 minutes, there were three too-cool-for-school servers standing around not helping us and chatting among themselves while one prepared to leave. Despite the fact that they have two registers and there were three people working, only one helped us so I had to wait for this dude (and it took a while - some mistaken order). At one point, 2 people were helping this guy for something that doesn't take a rocket scientist. Once he stepped away from the counter, they dispersed so I was stuck standing there, looking at my now cold bag of tater tots while these people did God knows what in the background. I waved for help and asked if I could get my food before it got colder, and it took about three attempts before the girl who was poking around on something by the bar came to help me. She moved with absolutely zero haste and another server came to chat with her about how she'd be leaving - can't this conversation wait till I'm done with my $3 order of tater tots?? Goodness! It only distracted my server more. The service sucks on a regular basis, they move slow, they're untrained and, frankly, I've been making better sandwiches on my George Foreman grill for a fraction of the price. I wish my classmates wouldn't go so they'll go out of business and we can have another restaurant in its place, but NU's populace is so blinded by the fun and quirkiness of a grilled cheese bar that I doubt Cheesie's will be getting the boot it deserves.

The group $10 for 20 deal makes this place a little more worth it. Would I come normally for a $8.50 modified grilled cheese? Probably not. Grease is not really my idea of late night comfort food. (Also, at what point does it stop being a grilled cheese and just a hot sandwich with cheese?) And I think $5 is a little outrageous for a very ordinary classic grilled cheese. The seasoned fries had no seasoning, not even salt, and were not very crispy. We did feed 2 for $10 with the groupon though, and the food is still infinitely better from the only other late night option in the vicinity (BK). Honestly, if it weren't so overpriced, I'd come sometimes late at night - sometimes you just crave that greasy cheesiness like you might crave fried chicken once in a while (though if i had to choose between the 2 artery cloggers I'd definitely always pick chicken). So maybe there will be the occasional return if they have more groupon deals.

The tenderizer is easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It's a shame that it took a Groupon for me to discover this place but I'm happy I finally have. Great food, prices and hours. However, in a seemingly cursed location, don't know what it is about that spot but nobody has managed to stick around too long. I hope you guys can break the curse.

Cheesie's has since redeemed themselves from that catastrophe last time. I went back to my roots and ordered the Frenchie, which is the first sandwich I tried there and probably my favorite. Good place to end a night of drinking with some filling grilled cheese.

This is a great place for good 'ol grilled cheese comfort food with a twist. They have a small menu with gourmet grilled cheese and some equally unhealthy but delicious appetizers. My issue with this place is the fact that a "normal" grilled cheese (toast and melted cheese) costs $4.50 which is just insane to me. For the average of $7 or $8 you can get a grilled cheese with interesting special toppings, like jalepeno or bacon. Although it is a great sandwich I can't convince myself that grilled cheese should cost so much.

Not only a grilled cheese restaurant, but a bar also! The Mac is a grilled cheese and a mac & cheese all-in-one, with some marinara sauce on the side for dipping. Order at the counter and they'll bring the food out to your table. The drinks are reasonably priced. Busy on a Saturday night, but if you want a fun place to hang out, with good food and a bar, Cheesie's is your place!

Great twist on a childhood favorite: grilled cheese. The sandwich was really filling and came hot and quick. It wasn't packed at all, but seemed to have a normal dinner crowd. This is a great place to bring friends or family!

I may have to give this place another try but I wasn't overly thrilled by my first experience. Took a loooooooong time to get food brought out. In terms of price, expect to pay anywhere form $6.50-$9.00 for just the grilled cheese sandwich with sides extra. I would recommend getting a soup as the side (for dipping obviously), as this is better than the dipping side you get with the sandwich. The people are very nice so I will likely give this another chance. But felt like not great value.

The food is good, but the service is usually sub-par. I've ordered delivery several times and it's pretty common that the food will take 90+ minutes, they'll miss the address, or get the order wrong. I wish this place would hire people who want to do a good job, because it could be a great restaurant if it tried.

To quote Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon, I'm getting too old for this sh$t! I'm no health food nut but Cheesie's has got to be one of the most unhealthy restaurants I've ever experienced. My body felt it hours later. Maybe I should have known going to a grilled cheese joint, but I had a Groupon and it's on the way home from my gym, so I thought I would give it a try. Think grease soaked bread with melted oily cheese and over salted bacon. No thanks.

This is one of my son's favorite places to eat and its very convenient for me to get here. The service was below-par. I understand its located uber-close to Northwestern University but I think they just picked the "I don't care" students or something because I just felt like a bother. They waitress didn't seem like someone I was ok handling my meal. That being said, the meal was pricey. $35 for two grilled cheese sandwiches with sides and two bottles of water. The meal was good for a "lazy" night but not where I'd want to eat if I really intended to go out for something nice. I still would visit this place again because its 5mins from home and my son likes it. He did inform me that the service was worse than the last time we went there.

Cheesie's is always awesome. The staff is usually very friendly and the food is great. Side items give you large portions and the sandwiches fill you up. They have a selection of beer and liquor and while the food is probably horrible for you, it is great comfort food.

This is a good place for snacking late at night (if you don't mind the calories, of course). The Frenchie (bacon and fries and tons of cheese) is pretty delicious, but more sour cream would've been nice for dipping. Another plus is that they have old arcade games near the window (two consoles) for free, so if you go with some friends it's nice to just relax, play some games, and eat some grilled cheese.

Mixed review. My better half had that most dangerous of combinations, a hunger and a Groupon account. We came up with a Cheesie's Groupon, so off we went. We ordered a couple of different sandwiches, soups, tots, and beers. (Beers with grilled cheese? That's what I call comfort food :-) I was not pleased to find that my sandwich, despite being ordered without tomato (I am NOT, repeat NOT, a tomato person), came with said ingredient installed. I know the order taker got the order right and he repeated the correct order when he brought the food, so this is the kitchen staff's problem, and it didn't help that I had to find this out when I took a bite of my sandwich. Like I said up at the top fo this review, mixed review. My wife loved her sandwich, thought the tomato soup was way salty. My french-onion soup was also on the salty side, but that's how my tastes run, so no problem for me :-) I was somewhat disappointed at my sandwich, which despite containing bacon and ham (not to mention the tomato I asked them to omit) didn't have much to recommend it outside of being reeeeeally cheeeeesey. Then again, you gotta give props to any place that sells Lagunitas. I think my wife would have rung up 3.5 to 4 stars. Mine would have been 2.5 at best, so three stars it is. My comment to the management is that if your ordering system is capable of managing orders with special ingredient requests (say, "no tomatoes"), your kitchen staff should be capable of fulfilling those orders. I might be back. I still don't know how well the grilled-cheese concept will do over the long term, but should the need for comfort food and IPAs strike, I'd give Cheesie's another shot.

The concept is such a great idea - grilled cheese on a college campus. The perfect thing for a cold rainy/snowy day! Especially since the Classic grilled cheese has cheddar, American with tomatoes, ham and bacon all on Texas toast with a side of tomato soup to dip and slurp it up in. My only qualm is that the grilled cheese is $8 and we first came here because we had a Groupon for it. However, we have returned other times and take advantage of their other specials and still enjoy ourselves. I noted that they now have these arcade games made into tables towards the front of the restaurant which is a fantastic touch. I also noted that you can close this place down to throw adult birthday parties which is a nice concept - some college kid was throwing a 21st birthday party for her boyfriend here for that very night. Great concept, pricey but you do get what you pay for since it's a richer version of grilled cheese than what Mom would make. My kids do love it and having an arcade game table is a dream come true for the kid in my husband and our kids.

An original grilled cheese, 12 oz Tomato soup and fountain drink is $13, whatever, Grilled cheese and Tomato soup is one of my favorite combos of all time, was told it would take 5 minutes, which is perfect for someone on a thirty minute lunch break. Twenty minutes later after discovering that their limited selection of 6 sodas were all out of syrup, I get my cold grilled cheese, and something that more resembles a stew more than soup, the grilled cheese tastes more like salt than anything else, and I don't even want to guess what they are putting in the soup, I've never been instantly repulsed by something so quickly. TLDR; Just went there for lunch, and I've never wasted more money in my life.

Cheesies is a new place for me. I wasn't particularly interested in ordering from here but my wife insisted. The food was hot when delivered and came sooner than expected which is always nice. I ordered "The Mac," essentially Mac and Cheese sandwich with American Cheese and Merkt's Cheddar Cheese. The mac and cheese was good and pretty much a classic homemade style on Texas Toast with Tomato Soup dipping sauce. Seeing as how I can't stand tomato soup I would have liked to select my choice of dipping sauce rather having it dictated to me. No biggie though. In addition to the sandwich I got some tater tots which were perfect. This meal was what I would have wished for in the cafeteria in middle school. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad hence the three star rating. Cheesies only has one downside...the price. For some pretty standard and easy to make food the cost will probably keep me from ordering here again but I am glad I tried it.

"Better to do one thing very well than to do many things just sort of meh. " - Shakespeare As true as those words were when the Bard said them so they are today. With Cheeseie's they really are what they say on the can. They serve grilled cheese sandwiches. They have other stuff like soups and sides, but you're going there for a grilled cheese. And that's a good idea to have. I'm a little too old for a 1am drunken jaunt here, but as a nice lunchtime break to give you that full belly and calm brain needed for a late afternoon nap under your desk, they hit the mark.

Cheesie's is awesome. I had my 21st birthday dinner here and they were so nice and accommodating. Lots of Evanston restaurants hate huge groups of college students but Cheesie's was welcoming and fun!

I am honestly glad that a restaurant finally decided to challenge BK's monopoly on Evanston's late night food options. Seriously...FINALLY a place that opens until 3 in the morning. I actually don't go here that much because of the amount of oil that oozes on my face after I eat one grilled cheese sandwich. However, I do have a fond memory of trying a bit of their jalapeno cheese sandwich which was actually pretty tasty. Probably give it 3.5 if I could

I went with a friend for a late night snack and it didn't disappoint. I have no idea how they fit the mac and cheese in between the texas toast..but this grilled cheese was delicious. I can't say that I was a huge fan of their chicken tenders (it was a little overcooked) but this is a great spot if you're looking for something greasy to help sober you up, or for some serious comfort food. The sweet potato fries were also a plus!

Well, first things first. The place is WAY too bright at night. They could (and should) dim the lights a bit so it doesn't feel like your at a fast food joint. I'm glad I looked at the menu online before arriving to figure out my order. The first cashier explained how to order, and then he left to grab an order from the kitchen while my husband and I decided. The other 'new' cashier completed the transaction. I ordered the Melt with tater tots. We sat down in a booth. I enjoyed the music...Surprised that they were playing Led Zeppelin. Our food was delivered within a reasonable amount of time. My food was delivered without any plastic utensils, so I had to hunt for a fork in the bin by the kitchen. The sandwich was good while hot. As it and the tater tots cooled, I noticed the odd flavor of the cooking oil used for the tots. Not sure if it was rancid, but I decided not to finish my meal. Price-wise I think this place is too expensive for what you get. We had a $20 Groupon, which cost us $10. Add that and our total meal was around $12.50, which is the price of one of their sandwiches + side + pop. I'd never go there to have a drink at the bar because it's just a weird layout for seating. It definitely felt like a Northwestern student hang out.

My go-to restaurant in Evanston. Whether it's for lunch, dinner, or a 2am snack, Cheesie's is awesome. First, their decor is fun and welcoming. They even have arcade games. Second, they have a nice bar. Low key but with plenty of options. Third, their staff is friendly and will do whatever they can to make your Cheesie's experience the best. Finally, and most importantly, their food is AMAZING. I wish my stomach could fit their Fried Pickles, the Popper Sandwich, the Tomato Soup, and the Tenderizer salad. Alas, it cannot, so I must come here frequently to make up for it. Delicious. Highly recommend.

Bright lights, greasy city! First off, I'm always ecstatic to see a new business roll into downtown Evanston. This spot has had several occupants over the past few years so I'm rooting for something to 'stick'. I'm not quite sure if Cheesie's will do it. Had a Groupon that was expiring soon so my wife and I headed in on a Thursday evening. The atmosphere is all over the place as fast food joint meets cafeteria meets awkward teeny-weenie sports bar. We ordered at the counter and received our number card so our food could be brought to us. Service was decent seeing that the place was only about a quarter full, but we did have to grab our own utensils and napkins from the waiter station. I had The Tradicion (Chihuahua cheese, chorizo and sliced jalapenos on Texas toast. Served with spicy chipotle mayo dipping sauce). A big, greasy and tasty sandwich that soaked through the lower piece of toast before I could finish a couple bites. It became a fork and knife affair after that. The dipping sauce was the standout. Opted for the side salad which was unremarkable, but I'm not going to hold that against a grilled cheese joint. Overall, not too bad of a fast-food type meal. A little pricey ($6.50-9 sandwiches) unless you're sporting a Groupon. I know this place's niche is the late-night after bar crowd and I think they've nailed it there. My college town was blessed with tons of places to grab a burrito, a slice, a greasy burger or breakfast after the bars closed and the Northwestern co-eds should have the same luxury. Not a place I'll likely return...sober anyway.

We drove down to Evanston to check out the hype surrounding these Grill Cheeses. The concept sounds great, the food sounds great, the location is good but the total experience was a let down. We ordered our food and sat at the free arcade games they have near the front of the restaurant with great anticipation. While waiting we were kinda wondering how this place calls itself a Pub. You can count the liquor bottles that were out without using your toes. Alas the food comes and the first bite... 99% bread, so now we should be done with the bread bite. Bite two... and a sliver of bacon but mostly fries. WTF? Where is my cheese on my grilled cheese? I ordered something with 3 cheeses, fries and bacon on sour dough but I got a ton of bread, a bunch of fries, some bacon and a little bit of cheese. We did get cheese curds that came with a buttermilk ranch and we really enjoyed those. They were probably the best part behind the 80's arcade games. The place itself is decent but nothing more than a converted store front with pretty paintings and tables. The parking was simple and there is plenty on the street. All in all I will not be returning for bread and fries.

Its okay, I had the "frenchie" Which has french fries and came with dipping sauce. They are open late so its convenient but I wouldn't say I'd rush back. Staff was friendly and the food came out fast.

What can I say about Cheesie's other than delicious grilled cheeses!? Honestly and truly I have never really considered grilled cheese to be something of an item to create a whole restaurant out of, but Cheesie's has made me a believer. Everything in this place is great. The Tenderizer happens to be my personal favorite and if you love Mac & Cheese the Mac is a great one to get! The dipping sauces they give you are amazing as well. Yes eating it drunk does also enhance the deliciousness but I've eaten there sober as well and it's just as good. I would say the only down side to Cheesie's is the service can be a bit questionable at times and it's not to say they're rude but just more don't really care. But regardless I will still go to Cheesie's because it is so delicious and I love cheese.

622 Davis Street, previously occupied by Al's Beef and Austin's Tacos, Cheesie's has landed!!! This is their 2nd location, with the original Cheesie's located on Belmont & Sheffield, in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. I was there today when it opened at 11AM and it was slammed within the hour. Everything was 1/2 off to give the locals a taste and based on my two hours spent there, everyone left very happy!!! A Classy College Pub & Grub for a Classy College Town!

Printed out a groupon and after arriving was made aware it was only accepted at the lake view location.....ugh. They advertise as a pub but its more like a cafeteria that serves a few beers.....very bright and a little cramped......wouldn't come here for beers just food. Sandwich was big and filling....good but nothing really stuck out... Soup was ok. More of a cookie cutter type of place and nothing was THAT spectacular to where I'd make the trek back. I went a few days ago and forgot to yelp it until now....kinda forgettable . If I was in the area more i may stop in for a quick sandwich.

I love cheesies, I always have. But after my experience today I will probably never be ordering there again. I placed an order for delivery and called back an hour later, the phone rang and rang and no one answered. I repeatedly called 16 times. No answer. I finally called the general manager who said he was going to find out what's going on. By this time, it was an hour and a half after I placed my order. I called again and finally they answered--only to tell me that my food still has not been sent out for delivery. Now it is an hour and 45 minutes after I placed my order and I still have not gotten my food. This is beyond disappointing considering I was ranting and raving about how amazing this place was to my friend who is visiting from out of town. I wanted her to try cheesies before she went back home and this was a horrible experience for me, and a horrible first experience for her. We'll see if our food even gets here.

Probably only worthy of a visit after midnight. I had the Tradicion with a side of tomato soup. On the upside, the sandwich was perfectly cooked and the bread was good quality. The sandwich was horrendously greasy (even for something that includes chorizo), though, and the soup was not well balanced. Their was also something off with the tater tots - it tasted like they may have been fried in old oil. My advice if you go here: get a sandwich and fries, skip everything else. You also might want to be massively inebriated, just to be on the safe side.

I ordered Cheesies for lunch and I had it delivered. I ordered the "Frenchie" with a side of french onion soup. Delivery was pretty quick within 30-45 min. The soup was decent but Ive had better, the grilled cheese was AMAZING! best grilled cheese Ive ever had! the only complaint I have is that the food came kinda cold but other than that I'm excited to try all their other variations of sandwiches :)

30 mins for a grilled cheese. No thank you. I don't care how good it is. Didn't have to deal with this in Lakeview. Staff accordingly. Friday night in a college town is busy.

holy f-balls thirty minutes for a grill cheese. (I know because I had the receipt and it had the time one it) We got there after two large groups so maybe that is why, but damn, that is ridiculous. Not going back ever. I wanted to stop in and get a quick bit nope. The food was good, I had the tradicion and she had the classic both okay, the enchilada soap was good.

Went to the evanston location a couple days ago with a friend. The place not really a pub, just a small orange space that serves some beers. I had used the groupon which was a pretty good deal. $19 for 2 sandwiches, 2 soups, 2 drinks, and 1 side (almost a $40 value). My buddy had the melt which was good. I had the tradicion which was really greasy and really salty. For my soup i chose the beef chili which was even more salty couldnt even finish it. The sweet potatoe fries were decent. Overall the food was decent nothing special, really greasy and really salty!! If it wasnt for the groupon i would never go back, paying almost $10 for a grilled cheese seems ridic!!!

There should be a Cheesie's within 5 miles of every college. It's perfect wasted, stoned, or adderall-addled food. It's also way better than you'd expect from a place like that. Everything we had was gooey and yummy and comforting, but a touch more sophisticated than melted cheese on butter soaked bread. Not too much more sophisticated, mind you, just a touch. When we went there, it was slammed. Slammed. I put slammed twice because it was really busy. There seemed to be only one person taking orders and one person running food. We had to wait an outrageously long time to get our food, and many tables around us seemed pretty perturbed. Eh. We didn't have anything better to do. I don't really think anyone has a right to get too uppity at place that only serves grilled cheeses. They have a nice bar, but there were a bunch of cleaning products sitting on it when we were there. Which was unfortunate, as there were many people waiting for a place to sit. No one seemed too eager to put their plate next to a bottle of windex and a bleach soaked rag. Gah-rosss! Anyways. Food was good, service was bad but very friendly. Low expectations exceeded! Also... place was packed with college kids. College kids are loud and annoying. In case you didn't know that.

After an unsuccessful trip to another restaurant that was closing, my friend and I arrived at Cheesies's, hopeful and hungry. It was open, it was warm, and greasy food fit the bill for a long gossip/catch-up session. It was a weekday night at a pretty respectable hour (read: 8pm), so the place was pretty deserted. There were only two employees and no other patrons, so we basically had the place to ourselves. I'm sure with Northwestern nearby, this place gets pretty busy late at night, especially with the type of food they serve. Cheesie's had a fairly modern feel, with a half-bar, half-restaurant sort of vibe going on and shockingly, it was pretty clean and well-kept. There are big, easy to read signs when you enter, and you order at the counter with the food delivered to your table. The staff was decent enough, but really, how much service does one expect in this kind of place anyway? Being from a place that is pretty behind the curve on the grilled cheese trend, I was excited by all the different variations Cheesie's offers. I tried The Mac ($6.50) which is grilled cheese with American, Merkt cheddar (love this stuff!) and mac & cheese. It was just as cheesy as you'd expect, and the cheeses blended together nicely inside the sandwich. The mac and cheese was pretty flavorless and unmemorable, sadly, and had a plain taste that was easily overpowered by the two cheeses. The Texas toast was pretty greasy and made you feel oily after a few bites - it kind of detracted from the sandwich, honestly. My friend ordered the Tenderizer ($8.50) which had fried chicken tenders, bacon, mozzarella, and cheddar. Her one complaint? Not enough hot sauce. Lastly, I thought the food was kind of pricey for what you get - it's just cheese and bread, people! - but I guess that's the price you pay for a trendy kind of place. Is the food filling and tasty? Not really. But is it a place you'd go in a pinch (read: late at night), for nostalgia and greasy food? Sure, why not?

Great concept and it's open late. The food is good but pricey. Love the flavor combos for the sandwiches, but they do not justify the prices. I could probably replicate each one at home at a cheaper cost. For sides and appetizers, I thoroughly enjoy the sweet potato fries and cheese curds - the beer batter is delicious. Service is good considering the late night crowd.

Went yesterday (Friday) nite with my boyfriend and a groupon. Wow, i had no idea there were soooooooo many creative ways of making a grilled cheese. We both selected the Frenchie and for $3 more got a side and a drink. He got the seasoned fries and i got the fruit cup (which fyi turned out to be a Dole pre packaged fruit cup in syrup - i had thought it was gonna be fresh fruit cup, so just letting you know - but that was my fault -what the heck was i doing trying to eat a little healthy - yeah next time i am just gonna be totally evil and get the sweet potato fries) But the sandwich was soooo yummy, and i tried my boyfriend's fries (of course) and they were tasty and crispy...Staff is ultra friendly and soooooper attentive. Place has a nice vibe and super clean, including the bathrooms. We weren't even finished with our meal and we were already discussing which sandwich we are gonna be trying the next time we come back...and they have a kids menu, so we are gonna bring the kiddies next time...

Came here with two friends on a Saturday night -- it was fairly busy, but our food still came quickly. The staff was very friendly. I had an original grilled cheese with fries. The food was good, but not great. Just nothing special. Maybe one of their more "interesting" sandwiches would have been a better choice? As a student, I'm so happy to see a late-night option opening up in Evanston, and I'm sure I'll come back here again.

This place really hits the spot when it's after midnight and you're ready for your fourthmeal :) Usually I feel like I'm waiting a little longer than I should for my grilled cheese and tater tots, but the staff is so nice and friendly that I don't even mind. The grilled cheese is delicious and terrible for you, just like it should be, on thick buttery texas toast with plenty of oozy cheese. I've only tried the regular plain one since I'm usually feeling less adventurous with my food choices at the end of the night (but they include a little container of tomato soup for dipping, so it's the perfect combination)

The grilled cheese sandwiches are too expensive and don't meet the quality expected with the price charged. I would rather go to steak and shake with a much better quality and lesser price.

I'd been waiting to try this place for years and just never stopped at the one on Belmont, so I hyped it up a little bit in my head. On my first visit I was really impressed with the variety on the menu. They clearly thought of a lot of varied flavor combinations when it comes to grilled cheese and I enjoyed my meal well enough. The next time I came back I think some of the luster wore off and I happened to order something different that I really didn't think was very enjoyable or really fit the name they ascribed to it. I think it was The Popper. I thought, "Okay, a grilled cheese that's supposed to taste like a jalapeno popper." Honestly, it seemed like a good idea. But in execution it just tasted like bachelor food and I was really disappointed. Maybe somebody else actually liked it. The absolute best thing I found on their menu in the few trips I've made is the sandwich with chicken fingers, bacon and marinara. Well, regardless, even if the sandwich disappoints it won't be a total loss -- the tater tots or sweet potato fries shouldn't let you down.

I just ordered from Cheesie's for the first time today. I was so excited to try it because I've heard so many good things about it. To my disappointment, however, the young man who delivered my order was extremely rude. Apparently he was not bright enough to call my cell phone number that was printed neatly on the side of the bag upon his arrival at the front desk of my building, and instead waited 10 minutes to do so. When I came downstairs, he scolded me for making him wait so long. Then he went on to tell me that I'm the worst customer ever and that I need to tip more next time especially if I'm going to make the deliver boy wait. Umm excuse me? Good food, but not worth dealing with the appalling service.

With about 10 different grilled cheese combinations, this place has a great concept. I went with the standard which had cheese, bacon, and tomatoes on Texas toast, and was quite tasty. I wouldn't pay $8 again for a grilled cheese, as I can make the same thing (or better) at home. But the place is perfect for a late night bite to eat.

Quality is good, concept of another late-night option + bar is great, but not great bang for your buck. Modern whimsical atmosphere with a narrow chalkboard for drunk artwork that runs above all of the tables. Beware of the late night crowds, as it is a unique scene (no carding to enter). Casual service -- you order before you sit down. Menu is not big, the salads are essentially the exact same sandwiches, just deconstructed and with greens. The Mac (grilled cheese w mac n cheese inside) and the chorizo+jalapeno grilled cheese are fantastic. However, are they worth $8? If it included a side and drink, I'd say yes. Alas, once you add soup or your side/drink, you are definitely over $10. I've had the french onion soup -- was it the best I've ever had? Definitely not. One simple thing that can be improved: having a bar/drink menu. Overall, a unique restaurant that caters well to the college crowd

I'm surprised by all the bad reviews. I first went to Cheesie's because of the Groupon, but I've also come back on my own accord since and plan to come back several more times. I don't remember what I ordered, but everything is delicious. What I've ordered was delicious. What my friends ordered was delicious. The sauce that they give you with your sandwich varies based on the sandwich but whoa it's good. The fries are great with the sauce too. In response to the jaded Yelpers: duh it's greasy. This place is centered around grilled cheese! What do you want? Yes I needed several napkins while I ate, but never once did I think it was too greasy. Is it pricey? Yes and no. You can get a sandwich, fries, and a drink for $10. I think that is very reasonable. The place is open late. If I were a college student, this place would be ideal for some post-bar drunk food, and yes this would be too expensive of a drunk food habit. The place does have a full bar and I personally don't find that aspect very appealing, but there's still plenty of seating. The employees are also very friendly. Really my only issue with this place and it's a non-issue: is there a difference between a grilled cheese and a panini if the grilled cheese has other things on it? This is something I will forever contemplate.

So gooooood! get the "mac" grilled cheese. It is delicious. Also the mac and cheese balls are weird but good. Great for a late night snack.

Mac n cheese in your grilled cheese sammitch? What!? It's genius!!!

Its a nice enough grilled cheese, but $7-9 for the sandwich and a couple bucks for the fries maybe a drink and this turns into a pricey lunch quick i could see it being nice after the bars... But what was off putting was the collegiate counter staff that literally didn't look at us as his eyes were glued to the tv above our heads and was a bit pushy to get our order out of us, so much so that we had to go back and order a side we had wanted... now i might have understood the curtness if it were busy and there was a line but not another person was behind us. This guy just wanted us to not interrupt his job... i mean television time.

I loved the fried pickles!!! The melt sandwich was delicious!!! I wasn't a grilled cheese fan!! That changed after I ate at this place will totally be back......

Food was just what I hoped it would be. Very good 'comfort' food with a twist. The atmosphere left a little to be desired. The bar and televisions dominate the space leaving the restaurant booths and tables relegated to the far wall. The service was shaky at best. It felt like one more employee was needed. The employees seemed to think talking on the phone and drinking Jamaba Juice was acceptable. It took some time to get our food. There was no ice in the fountain machine. It seemed to be par for the course. I went to the website to see if I could leave my thoughts but it was not operating. Seemed like a place that might be in some duress? Or perhaps the Memorial Day holiday was the reason for the issues.

Very very understaffed! I went to this place for lunch and got my food after 40 minutes!! The food was fine -I got the mac and it was kinda nice, but absolutely not worth the 40 min wait. There were only 2 people alternating between working as a waiter and manning the counter. It seems that had only one chef because there was only one sandwich coming out of the kitchen everytime! I don't think that I am going back there...

I hope you guys realize you're basically paying 8-9 dollars for two slices of bread, some cheese, some bits of meat, and a few years off your life span. This shit will kill you. It is pretty good though because the bread is buttered up and cheese is the greatest food ever. But seriously. Think about, its 8-9 dollars for grilled cheese with some meat.

This place is clean, friendly and fun. The staff are excellent. Nice place to hang out late. Sadly, the food deserves 2 stars at most. Nothing is bad, but nothing is really great. No variety of breads, just Texas toast. Sandwiches are buttery, but too salty; properly toasted. Tater tots are standard issue. Chili average at best. Tomato soup, above average. Cheese curds yummy. Maybe salads are good. VERY nice people.

I set up a lunch date with a girlfriend I had not seen in awhile and this was the perfect place to meet with our 3 kids in tow ages 3-8. Everyone had a great time and loved the food. My 8 yr old said it was the best grilled cheese ever! I had the tenderizer and it was great (super filling). The kids loved that they could draw with chalk on the walls and that entertained them while my friend and I caught up! I would also HIGHLY recommend the Cheesecake bites. I had no idea what they were but they are FRIED cheesecake with dipping sauce! Totally worth the calories!

I love a basic grill cheese, but Cheesies really takes grill cheese up a notch. I've tried several and they are all delicious - although the Caprise is my absolute favorite. The Texas toast is perfectly toasted and the fries are crispy and delicious. The staff are always helpful and friendly. Always a satisfying experience when I eat at Cheesies.

Took my 3 kids here when I was in town visiting family -- It's good to find a different type of place to go to than the regular chains. I got the Caprese sandwich, which I thought was very good. I've been to the one on Belmont in Chicago back in the day and always liked the ole mac-n-cheese item with the dipping sauce. Again, I always appreciate a new approach to food and this is the type of place that could catch on!

Due to the weather I decided to pop in downstairs at their Evanston location. I got the chicken enchilada soup. I bit of a disappointment. The pieces of chicken are about twice the size of the spoon they gave me. I really could have used a fork and a knife. I now understand why at 12:30 in the afternoon, they only had 4 tables taken.

(3)Mark M.
(3)Gina T.
Love the Mac n cheese grilled cheese sandwich. The tomato soup is a bit disappointing. Has no flavor to it. Definitely wouldn't recommend getting it. Would go back again.
(4)Ann L.
(2)Faye B.
(4)Katie B.

(4)Stanley T.
(1)Pari P.
(3)Eugene W.
(4)Nathan L.
(4)Matt R.
(3)Kristen M.
(4)Darren F.
a friend took me here a while back.. i still remember the service was pretty good and the girl that worked there was friendly.. i ordered the..

(5)Brandon B.
(2)Tina C.
(3)Elina S.
(3)S T.

(1)Jessie M.
(1)Steve A.

"Ain't nobody got time for that!" And by 'that', I mean all the fab items on the menu! We were here on a rainy Saturday when it was my birthday weekend and I chose a bunch of places on my Yelp bookmarks that I wanted to try or visit. It was so fun, I highly reccommend you do that, too. Yelptastic! Anyhoo, Eva helped us choose which items were best as first timers to the joint, and she was sweet and patient, perhaps also because it was such a slow day that day. But, you could also tell that she is one of those happy and energetic people that are like that every day of the year, and not in an annoying way. :) So, on to all things cheese! This place is a grilled cheese lover's paradise! They offer about 8 sandwiches from which to choose, with a wide variety of cheeses like Merkdt, mozz, chihuahua and more. Couple that with chorizo, jalapenos, bacon, chicken breast, mac and cheese (IN the sandwich!), chives, tomato...I mean, the combos are endless. We decided to share The Melt: American cheese, Chihuahua cheese, marinated chicken breast, bacon, Thousand Island and tomato on Texas toast. Served with creamy pesto mayo dipping sauce. It was $8.50 but this baby was huge and loaded with ooey, gooey melty deliciousness. I was glad we were sharing, but sad I wasn't able to try other sandwiches as well. The fried cheesecurds were awesome. So were the fried mac and cheese bites, better than most I've had. The chicken with wild rice soup was delicious, perfect for my cold. Needless to say, but I will, the grilled cheese was outstanding. I mean it was perfect for a rainy day, not so much for our hearts. But hearts be damned, it was my birthday! So between the service, the colorful walls and adorable spray painted art, and the cheesy awesomeness that is Cheesie's- you can bet my now and forevermore fat ass will definitely be finding a seat again at Cheesie's. I'd like to blame them, but it was like that when I came in. ;}

(5)K S.
great groupon deal and quick service Although standing in line at a festival seems to make the sandwich tastes so much better because you had to earn it!

(3)Jane W.
All I need to say is that I don't like cheese (blasphemy I know).... but I like cheesies. You're probably going to hate yourself and feel your arteries clogging withe every bite, but it is worth it (once in a while).
(4)Marlene M.
Sweet potato fries were ok ...helped me get through the nasty melt I spent way too much on. Didn't like the food one bit.
(1)Katelynn K.
(2)Kristina W.
There are only 3 reasons why I would ever go to Cheesie's again. 1. It's past 2AM, and I'm too lazy to walk anywhere. 2. I'm drunk, and I'm sick of BK. 3. I want Capri Sun. ... or maybe a combination of all 3.
(2)Melan E.
The BEST service and Grilled CHEESES on the PLANET!!! Feel right at home on $2 bar Mondays, $10 sandwich and bar Tuesdays, 1/2 off Sandwich Wednesdays!!!
(5)Steve A.
Oh well
(2)Anna K.

(1)Doug R.
Love this place. Have been here many times. It's never crowded and the food has always been fantastic.
(5)Giovanni B.
(5)Niti B.
(5)Nadia A.
My first time going and what a great experience. We brought a party on a Saturday night and they really accommodated us. We all got something different and each was very filling. Delicious!
(4)Kyle G.
(3)Moni K.
(5)Nick H.
(4)Nicole S.
(3)Geoff J.
(5)Joan A.
(2)Erin Y.
(4)Alicia G.
(1)Tian Y.
(3)Tone G.
(5)George R.
Cheesie's has since redeemed themselves from that catastrophe last time. I went back to my roots and ordered the Frenchie, which is the first sandwich I tried there and probably my favorite. Good place to end a night of drinking with some filling grilled cheese.
(3)Mandy K.
(3)Heather M.
(5)Chad M.
Great twist on a childhood favorite: grilled cheese. The sandwich was really filling and came hot and quick. It wasn't packed at all, but seemed to have a normal dinner crowd. This is a great place to bring friends or family!
(4)Andy S.
(2)Paul T.
The food is good, but the service is usually sub-par. I've ordered delivery several times and it's pretty common that the food will take 90+ minutes, they'll miss the address, or get the order wrong. I wish this place would hire people who want to do a good job, because it could be a great restaurant if it tried.
(2)Mark S.
No thanks.
(1)Andi E.
(2)Aaron P.
Cheesie's is always awesome. The staff is usually very friendly and the food is great. Side items give you large portions and the sandwiches fill you up. They have a selection of beer and liquor and while the food is probably horrible for you, it is great comfort food.
(5)Bethany A.
(3)Don P.
(3)Dee W.
(4)John T.
Love this place...different than the norm. A nice go to place when you don't know what you want.
(4)Zach G.
(1)David B.
(3)Sean F.
(4)Noor H.
Cheesie's is awesome. I had my 21st birthday dinner here and they were so nice and accommodating. Lots of Evanston restaurants hate huge groups of college students but Cheesie's was welcoming and fun!
(5)John K.
Probably give it 3.5 if I could
(3)Katherine L.
(4)Alford L.
Went there Friday after a painting class and was pretty good. I ordered the special with the pulled pork. Wasn't as delicious as the one off the truck at Wavefront though.
(4)Kevin K.
THE LINE HERE IS ALWAYS WAY TOO LONG. GOOD THING IT STAYS OPEN TILL LIKE 3AM.. food was decent. it's got cheese and stuff in bread. first bite: OH MAH GAD second bite: mmmmmmm this is great fifth bite: this is a decent sandwich second to last bite: food got boring last bite: meh. im full as fuck but i want some fries
(4)Lisa H.
(2)Madison G.
(5)Scott H.
(2)Dave F.
(2)Lance P.
Its okay, I had the "frenchie" Which has french fries and came with dipping sauce. They are open late so its convenient but I wouldn't say I'd rush back. Staff was friendly and the food came out fast.
(3)Andy P.
(4)Lee M.

(4)Sam G.

(5)Kevin H.

(3)Park R.

Just ate there and couldn't be more impressed. The food was fantastic. Real comfort food. The sweet potato fries were the best.

(5)Mugwump B.
(4)Julie J.
