This place looks like its been unchanged since 1954. Great food! The bacon is amazing! 8.5/10

I am going to try the omelette the next time I go here. My hesitation is that it is so darn expensive. I had 2 eggs 2 pieces of toast. No sides and 1 cup of coffee. The coffee was $2.50. My entire bill was $10 with tip for 2 Measley eggs over easy If it was less expensive I would go here more. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff I will give it one more shot. The outside of the building needs work. You would never know how nice it is inside as you are driving by. I wouldn't have stopped but I saw the segment on chicagos best

I've never met a person who didn't like Our Kitchen. That being said, there are some good points made by some of the negative reviews. However, to be honest, we've never had a problem with the service or the food. As another reviewer noted, the omelet is baked. It comes out like a soufflé. I highly recommend the Farmhouse Omelet. This place is not cheap. And, since you're already making an investment, substitute blueberry pancakes for a couple extra bucks. Make sure to stop in the gift shop to check out the Christmas and Halloween villages. Does anyone need this stuff, no, but my wife always enjoys looking. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Yelp!

It's not often I get to be the youngest person in the room anymore. But at Our Kitchen, I'm pretty sure the average target market is 60+, which is surprising because normally senior citizens are more thrifty with their money, and the food here was anything but. $9-10 for an omelet. I hope these are giant ones because at those prices, I want it to be fulfilling. When you walk in, you enter into your great aunt's living room. It's done up in fabulous "Old Lady Chic." Floral wallpaper and dust. There's nobody around, so you kinda have to wander into the dining room to find someone to seat you. It was the bus-person/lady who sat me. My waitress was friendly, but not in a "going overboard to actually smile" kind of way. She took my order and went over to yell at the cook for screwing up another order before mine. Uh oh. I skipped all the overpriced omelets and sandwiches and just went with potato pancakes, my fave. I can't quite describe the taste of the ones I received here, but it was neither potato, nor pancake (discuss!). Disgusting comes to mind. After my meal, the waitress brought my my check. She didn't do the "how is everything?" or "can I get you anything else?" dance. She was tired and I was done with this place. I went back out into the front room to pay. I still don't know what to call that place. It was a ghost town. Easiest place you could ever want to dine and dash, if you wanted to. But I waited. And waited. And waited and waited. Finally I called over to the woman in the gift shop. (Yes, they have a full gift shop full of more old lady crap). She rang me up. She was friendly as could be. Maybe working in the kitchen/dining room sucks people of their energy and enthusiasm. I know eating there did it for me. In fairness, however, I only tried one thing. But the service was basic. The food I did try sucked, and the atmosphere was dingy and sad. Plus the prices were ridic. So I won't be going back, but I'm also not going to give them a sh*tty rating because I don't think I fully experienced everything they had to offer. But I really, really, don't want to.

There is nothing great or grand about this place. Its ok. If you are in the area in the morning and could go for some breakfast...this is your place. But be prepared for the old time feel and older decorum. I went one morning after work with my bf. He ordered the giant dutch pancake. I think they are known for their apple fritter pancake thing though. The pancake was large but that was about it. The taste of everything was average.

Sweet, cheerful wait staff (in old-timey white uniforms) promptly serve sturdy, straightforward American breakfast/lunch fare. Cute gift shop adjacent. Good restrooms. I've been here over 20 times in 20 years, but not enough this century. I've always come on weekdays, never mobbed. Early bird specials weekdays 7-11 too, $5.95 for some good options
