Burgers
Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.
Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. On the other hand, there are several restaurants such as Burger King are famous for serving the best hamburgers in the United States. Most burger restaurants in the United States often serve hamburgers with French fries and other condiments. If you have a liking for burgers in the United States, then you won't be disappointed. You can easily find the best burger restaurants in your city on our Restaurants Listings directory. I came in on a Wednesday night, looking to try something new. I don't usually go into Elmhurst, so I almost drove past the restaurant, not realizing that it had taken over a grocery store (an actual sign would have helped, not just lettering on the grocery store sign). The restaurant in the greenhouse is pretty cool, but we sat in the bar. After reading other reviews, I was pleasantly surprised with my food. I had the tilapia sandwich with tater tots and boyfriend had a burger with fries but since that wasn't enough starch for him he also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes (crazy, I know). My sandwich was awesome and he enjoyed the burger. I would probably not get the tater tots again (nothing wrong with them, but I'd rather spend the calories on something else), but the fresh cut fries were delicious as was the garlic mashed potatoes. Also, boyfriend was impressed with the large beer selection. We had awesome service at the bar from Amber. Since I have been getting bored with the restaurants that I usually visit, I will be coming back.

Went back again and wow what a disappointment. The food tasted like it had been sitting around and service was extremely poor. Maybe it was just a bad night. However we have no desire to return anytime soon.

Staff was extremely pleasant and friendly. Very kid friendly. Food was delicious, but adding any kind of extras on your burger got really really pricey. The restaurant wasn't that crowded, but it still took a long time to get our bar drinks. The burgers were really tasty, and cooked perfectly.

In summary- Great food, unmatched atmosphere, mostly great service. I have been to HB Jones a bunch of times since it opened last year, but I wanted to wait until things settled down a little at the restaurant before writing a review. On the food front, the menu is excellent- very creative, and the execution is typically really good. The specials (make sure you get a copy of the specials when you visit) are even more creative and well worth trying. My favorites on the menu are the burgers, cheeseburger salad (sounds a bit odd, but tastes great), the nachos and the wings. The burgers are huge and have always been cooked to the right temp for me. The nachos are the best I have had. The wings are unique- grilled instead of fried with really good flavor. In terms of atmosphere, you can pick whatever suits your mood- bar-like atmosphere inside, the greenhouse gives you an outdoor feel year-round and the outdoor patio is a great way to enjoy a weekend afternoon. On the service side, while it was rocky to start (just like most restaurants), they seem to have done a good job of keeping the good servers and improving the service over time. This place will stay on my "go to" list for a long time to come.

Good food. Service is average at best.

I was at the place last week the first time. I found the place while taking a long walk thru Elmhurst. I looked it up on Yelp first, yes the food is great, has plenty of parking, great bar and out door area. Oh the food was wonderful, will be back again.
(4)Patrick M.
Went for dinner last night at HBs. Little hard to find the place because you have to go through the back door instead of the front door. Also, restaurant does not have a sign if you are going north on York. This restaurant would make a lot more money I think with a big sign and a front door. Besides the aesthetics, the food was good. Menu was very big and had too many words on it but once I got my food I was very happy with the service and the quality of the food. I was also a fan of the green house and its too bad that they didn't work that into the name of the restaurant because they are probably the only burger place with a greenhouse. If you're looking for burgers in elmhurst don't go to Riley's, go to HBs.

I live just down the street & fail to understand why this place is always so busy. Granted they just opened, so I will try them again (maybe they need to work out some kinks) but it was overpriced and very average food. I make better burgers at home.

good food, good service, fun ambiance. had a great dinner, complete with live music i had shrimp po boy.hubby had classic hamburger. will be back. signage coudl be better, hard to find.but worth it

Planned on going out to lunch here but the munchkin fell asleep. So we ened up grabbing menus ordering from the car going to grab movies n picking it up 20 minutes later. Both my husband and myself were extremely disappointed. Hubby ordered the mexican standoff burger. Asked for medium & hot gardinare on the side with mac n cheese. His burger was over cooked the patty had no seasoning and the mac n cheese had no flavor either. I also ordered 2 uglie americans one 10oz no mustard, tomatoe , no pickle with mac & cheese & one 4oz plain for our daughter.with garlic mashpotatoes. both medium well. Both patties were over cooked, had no seasoning along with the mac & cheese. The potatoes barely had any garlic flavor & still had lots of lumps. I doubt well go there again!

Went on Sunday 3/10. Only options were the Omelet bar and build your own burger. Build your own burger you check off on a piece of paper what you want on the burger as well as what sides you want. One of our order was completely wrong and had to be sent back. Service was slow not only on the initial pass but also it took a LONG time to get the correct order and they were not busy. It got to the point that the order was so wrong that I asked the server to check the paper that I filled out to verify the order The manager saw that one of the people at the table didn't have his meal but did NOT visit our table to inquire as to the problem resolution. he just stayed at the desk chatting with other staff members. Very disappointed with our second visit.

Tuesday night with 2 of my daughters. Service was excellent as was the food and atmosphere. I had the turkey burger which was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Kids has the chicken strips which were very good. A must visit for Elmhurst residents.

Food: B+ Staff: C- (Staff was slow, and got two orders wrong and never refilled water) Buliding: F for F..FF...FFREEZING Their design and use of an automatic door could not be more stupid, my family and I were seated at a table by the door and when we asked if we could move to another table, the man (who I believe is the manager) seating people smirked and said no, it would be a long wait. So we sat at the table and had to watch as people just stood in front of the automatic sliding door holding it open for minutes on end and letting the 20 degree night air in. We will not be back any time soon, which is a shame because everyone did enjoy their meal. I give this place a year, max

A friend of mine summed this place up pretty accurately. He said, "HB Jones has average food within a great atmosphere". Ever since this new brick and mortar was a grocery store we have wished for it to be something truly special. This came close in late Fall of 2012 when HB Jones took it over. The restaurant owners must have been salivating at the possibilities. A very large greenhouse space is now the main dining room with a very welcoming bar area and front seating area. They have done a great job with retrofitting the new restaurant into this unique space. They are in desperate need of a signage fix though. The signs out front say "HB Jones" then at the bottom say something about eating and drinking, I think but the font is so small you cannot read it (I am 20/20). So, other than the neon beer signs in the window, a passerby might only think its a bar. The menu is large with burgers being the focus. I ordered the classic burger with a side of Jalapeño slaw. the Burger was good but nothing exciting. Our favorite burger in town is Smashburger (by far) and one would think that a place like HB Jones would smash, Smashburger (a gourmet fast food joint). Not happening. There was nothing remarkable about it. I had high hopes for the slaw. Nope. There was barely anything Jalapeño about it, other than some green flecks that I presume were witness to the pepper. We were with a large group of people this evening. When I polled the group, there was a general consensus of what I am writing here. Some liked HB Jones more than I but not exponentially. Most had an opinion that it was a good try and we would probably be back but we were not going to rush back. So, the morale of the review, if you are looking for a new place with a great atmosphere, a strong beer selection and OK food, give it a try.

My wife and I both had the Mexican Standoff burger, which was rather tasty. The service was less than what we prefer, as we waited over 30 minutes for our order during a time when it wasn't that busy. We also found ourselves waiting on refills... something that just shouldn't happen ( isn't that like waitering 101? ! ). Moreover, while the food was good, we felt it was overpriced for what it was.
(3)Ed W.
We went during opening week and had a VERY long wait for order to be taken and also for food to come out. Several tables gave up and left. Our wait was made bearable only because of the great couple at the next table also enduring a long wait. Food was acceptable but not great. Waiter was apologetic for the delay. Thought we would give another try this week, four weeks later. Much to our disappointment, same problem!! Long wait for order taking and food. Manager making the rounds of the tables, asked "How is everything". As I proceeded to tell him, he seemed to want to end the conversation. Said they were short of help that day. I disagree; there were ample staff standing around. No apology for poor service.....COULDN'T CARE LESS. Again another table walked out. We will not return.
(2)Chris D.
Sorry to say that I thought this place was a disappointment. It was recommended by a friend so we went on a Saturday and felt the service was super slow and the food was mediocre. The slow service was probably the biggest issue. Took way to long for someone to even acknowledge us when we walked in as we stood there waiting to be seated. It sucks when you walk into a restaurant and you're just standing there waiting for someone - anyone to even let you know you're standing in the right place or that someone will be right with you. It's a long 5 minutes and we almost walked - I mean, you're gonna make me wait for a burger? The place was 1/2 empty....finally got seated by a less than enthusiastic dude and waited for our server....the wait continued so now it was just getting comical, we thought about leaving but frankly we were just to lazy to get up. Felt like another 5 minutes till our "even less" than enthusiastic waitress came by to allow us the honor of ordering...we felt soooo special that we got to finally order our burgers!! I mean really, how many burger joints are there? It's not like we had any choices in the area so we just had to wait our turn if we wanted a burger. ; ) Food came and ugh......soggy buns , but the burger was dry!! Huh? We were starving so that usually means a rave review but we just ended up feeling bad about our decision and decided we wont go back. In summary, if you want a good burger and beer, there are plenty of other choices in Elmhurst, personally, I'd look somewhere else since the atmosphere isn't that great anyway. If you're gonna settle for mediocre food at least do it where the atmosphere is better.
(2)Mabel M.
This is a much needed local restaurant in South Elmhurst. We had good food and decent service on a Saturday night. We will definitely go back.

My husband and I went here last night for dinner. The wings are to die for. I love wings but usually avoid them as they are typically fried. HB Jones grills them here. Its super inventive and really good. For our main courses I ordered from the huge appetizer menu and my husband had a burger. My husband really liked his burger and I snagged some of his Mac and cheese. Very good. I had a simple quesadilla which was also good. This is a great place for a couple to go to have a simple night out and also looks great for families. I saw several large groups with kids that looked like they were having a good time.
(4)James N.
Great customer service! Had a small piece of tin foil in my BBQ sandwich, which was amazing!, and they took the burger off my bill because it wasn't to their standards! The pineapple shake I had with it was awesome as well! With great customer service and burgers I'll definitely go back next time I'm in town!
(5)Michael G.
Enjoyed my whole meal. The wings were great. My side of mac and cheese was great. And, my hamburger was great.
(5)Stephen L.
First trip was fantastic. Cheddar Bacon Burger, sautéed vegetable skew, and barmaid were all great. Then I caught a glimpse of the Mac and cheese which I had to try. Wow! I'll be back often

I've been to Hamburger Jones 2 times since opening. The first time was a pleasant experience. There were a few oversights (like not asking us how we would like our burgers cooked or wanting to sit us at a high top after we stated we needed a highchair for our baby (he would have been sitting at least 2 ft less than the rest of us.). We chalked this up to inexperience which is to be expected the first week a restaurant opens. We left thinking the food was good and excited that this place move into our neighborhood (walking distance from our home). The second time we went, we arrived at 4:45pm thinking we might miss some of the rush. We got a table right away and ordered. It took over an hour and 20 mins to get our food (2 burgers, nothing special). There were other families with kids experiencing the same. We also couldn't understand why other tables that sat down after us were getting their food before us. We spoke to the manager and our waitress about the long wait and we were told they were short staffed in the kitchen. Disappointing for sure, and we thought that they would make an effort to "make it right" since our wait time was more excessive than others around us (the bus boys even asked us multiple times if our food STILL wasn't there yet). When we got our check nothing was adjusted, as most restaurants would do for excessively bad service. We questioned the waitress (who was very nice and apologetic about everything) and she went to talk to the manager about it. She came back to say the drinks were comp'd but after looking at the bill one beer was off of it (not the $2 soda or $5 milkshake). We thought taking off a 4.50 drink to smooth over having to wait over 1hr, 20min (while trying to keep a baby calm) was a bit insulting. We weren't looking for a free meal, it just would have been nice for the manager to show that he valued new customers, especially when the place just opened. I am very sad we had this experience as we were very much looking forward to a new family friendly restaurant in our neighborhood. I hope things get better at this place with a little time, then I will amend my review, if we go back.

Went there after a movie for a quick bite on a Saturday evening around 10pm. We were seated immediately in the small room at the front. It was very loud - there was a live band but they had disco music on at the same time so conversation was very difficult. I ordered a Cosmo since it was on their drink menu but it was horrible - i should have known when the waitress brought it, it was actually red in color and almost all cranberry juice. The waitress apologized and took it off our bill. The burgers were good, but the tater tots were horrible! They were cold and seemed like they'd been heated over a few times. After we asked for "fresh, hot" tater tots, we were served hot tots, but again they had been re-heated in old oil. yuk. The bill was over $40 for two burgers and two drinks. I hope they can get their act together. The manager needs to watch "Restaurant Impossible" for tips on how to run a successful restaurant.

You don't like to read long reviews? OK, the only thing saving this review from one star is the fries. Yes, the fries. And I think I'm being generous. So for the rest of you that are sticking around here's the mess that was HB Jones. I'd rather someone say they are out of something or they don't know how to make something than to pass off horrible service and products. If you like Micheladas, don't ask for one here. They just gave my husband a glass of Bloody Mary Mix and a bottle of beer. Yo HB Jones, here's a nice little link your bartender needs to read. chow.com/recipes/10662-m… My husband just took one of our water glasses and asked for some Tabasco to mix it himself. Talk about annoying. This wasn't a make your own bloody mary/michelada bar. They were not busy so I was surprised at how sub par our service was. Now I don't know if it's server or kitchen, but the ceviche didn't have the avocado. This after our server made a big deal asking if we wanted avocado or not (our server said the kitchen forgot, and then came back to say the kitchen had to go to the store room to get more avocado). Also kept forgetting to bring the sauces that were supposed to come out with our meal as well as basic dining items--a glass for my beer, napkins, etc. The food. MEH. We shared the ceviche and some sliders. I won't place another link on how to make ceviche. But there's something HB needs to learn about ceviche. LIME. Learn it, love it. And the sliders? I can make sliders this mediocre when I'm in a rush and don't really care. I'd expect more from a restaurant with "Hamburger" in its name. A restaurant that has a toni Elmhurst address to boot. Wont be coming back. Fries isn't enough to warrant a repeat visit.
(2)Beth M.
We had no intentions of going here for lunch, but a stroll along the prairie path led us here for a bite to eat. The place was very busy which was a great sign and the decor was very nice. We were sat right away on the outdoor patio area. We will be back. The are known for their burgers and both people I was with loved there's. I ordered the Cheeseburger Salad and it was delicious. The only thing that was a little off about the experience was the waitress, she was really slow and we got our food and still had no silverware. When asked for the bill it took an additional 10 minutes. I would say even though the waitress wasn't the best, this will not prevent us from coming back and eating here again!

I planned a work event for about 60 people that was held here this afternoon and I have to say it was one of the most pleasant event planning experiences of my life. I feel like the owner Tony and his staff bent over backwards to accommodate us. The service and personability was on point, and the food was wonderful. The entire terrace was given to us for our event and by the time I arrived (about 15 minutes before scheduled start time) everything was ready. The servers were very friendly and immediately began serving drinks. Our buffet was stocked about 15 minutes after everyone arrived and kept full until long after the last person came. Servers worked their tails off bringing and refilling drinks the rest of the afternoon, and I can't say enough positive things about how welcome we all felt. We had one vegetarian in the group, and since he ordered off the regular menu and didn't have the buffet, his meal was comped. I just can't believe how nice that was. I'm grateful to be in a position where I can make a decision to have future company outings here, and I guarantee we will be back. Thank you Tony, and everyone for making our event great. See you soon.
(5)Andy R.
I had to give it 2 stars because the food was not bad, but the service is ridiculously terrible. This is my first ever Yelp! review; after eating here, I felt obligated to get home and make an account just to warn people about how bad the service is. Before you order, make sure you ask them if they are out of anything, because they brought our food out to the table and proceeded to tell us THEN why half of our table didn't get any food. I would go on to tell about the service but this review would be way too long. Food is not bad, beer selection is good, service is awful.
(2)Michele D.
Burger was pretty good. Not to mention huge! The burger actually held together really well considering its size. The ambience was fun. Thursday nights they have live music and half off any beers. What didn't impress me was the service. Our waiter was barely there. Actually I'm not even sure he existed.

As a resident of Elmhurst, I've always wanted to love this bar/restaurant. It looks like a cool spot, and the "greenhouse" area seems like a great place to sit in good weather. However, I've been there 4 times now, and I've gotten abysmal service each and every time. It always take a long time for servers to get to our table to begin the ordering process, and we don't see them much after the first order. On my last visit, my server (who also claimed to be a manager), at one point sat at a table across the room and took a call on her cell phone. As far as the food and drink, it's average all the way around. An average selection of beers, and burgers and appetizers are . . . you guessed it. . . average. To sum it up, I'm crossing this place off my list of good Elmhurst spots.
(2)Steve W.
This place has been here for a couple years. It looks cool, has a nice vibe, and is off the beaten path. As such, I've been here several times. Each time i go i have high hopes. Each time i go, the food is average and the service is lousy. The food- they market themselves as if their burgers are good. They're not. The burger meat is mushy and tastes as if it's been frozen and thawed in a microwave. Other items on the menu were generally bland and uneventful. I did find their Cobb salad actually quite tasty. It's a decent portion with a good amount of varying ingredients (i.e. not just a bunch of iceberg lettuce). The beer- they have a pretty decent selection of bottled beers. Their draft options are pretty basic and would like to see more local offerings (two brothers, revolution, goose island, etc) on tap. Or, how about rotating several beers instead of the same stuff i found on tap in 1996! There are too many great choices to be stuck with the basics especially from a local place like this. The best part is half price beers on Thursday. Now that is the best thing they have going! The service- if you're at the bar, you're in luck. Stay. If you sit in the other area, it sucks. Every time i have gone, you'll wait for someone to offer you water. Then wait forever for them to take your drink order. ( I've actually found the best way to get drinks is to get your table then walk to the bar, order drinks there, and bring them back to the table. That will happen well before your server will bring your menus and water.) once you get menus, you'll wait for them to take your food order. If you're lucky, you'll get your food in under 30 minutes. Groups- DON'T GO WITH A GROUP. This is the kiss of death. The service, already bad, can't seem to manage a group. Besides the issues I've already described, they can't seem to figure how to divide a group check. On more than one occasion I've paid for other people's food (in my group) but not part of my order. It's a travesty. Time and again I've been here wanting it to be better than it is. Every time I'm reminded i should have gone somewhere else. That's too bad.

We stopped in today for lunch and were very happy to see Deanna behind the bar. What a nice surprise and we knew that we would get good service, great conversation and an excellent attitude. Talk about customer service!!. Deanna made my Mother's drink to perfection and kept my Corona's coming with a fresh glass every time. Also, the chicken noodle soup cannot be beat anywhere! We will be back. Thank you, Deanna.
(5)Eric B.
Could be our favorite restaurant in Elmhurst. Had a Patty Melt which was cooked to perfection, which doesn't always happen at other burger joints. Wife liked the fact that a side salad is offered as a substitute for fries. The atmosphere is pleasant and a little unusual in that the dining room looks like a greenhouse.
(4)Ericka A.
I popped in for a quick bite the other day and it did the trick. I went with the Fresh Cut Cheese Fries, the Little Village Tacos (2 Skirt Steak, 2 Carnitas), and their Beergarita (Dos Equis and grapefruit juice). The Beergarita was different and something to try. It ends up being like a shandy and I'm just not down with those. I'd probably go for one of their other cocktails next time, like the Mojito or a Moscow Mule, or one of the many good beers they have on tap. The Fresh Cut Cheese Fries were my favorite part of the meal. The fries are done well and you can't go wrong with Merkts cheddar cheese. The Little Village Tacos, on the other hand, were a bit disappointing. They're American bar tacos. The steak was really chewy and didn't have much flavor. The carnitas had really great flavor and were tender, but after 1 taco is was evident they were over salted and I was very thankful I didn't have a full order of 4 of them.
(3)Greg Z.
Kids eat free on Tuesday with purchase of Burger or Entree ($2 for a drink still). I had the skirt steak torta. The steak was tender and jam-packed with flavor. I liked it so much I was wondering what else this steak is served in. Kids got their kids menu's and fun little triangle crayons that CAN'T roll off the table! Wife had the wedge salad. It wasn't bad but it was boring. It could have used some bacon and balsamic vinaigrette. Overall the service was good and the food was OK. Felt like the prices were a little bit high. We'll likely come back for the nice greenhouse seating area and all the outdoor seating that is available. Perhaps on the rib special night.
(3)Stephanie B.
If you ever have a burger craving and are looking for a healthier option this place has the best and tastiest turkey burger I've ever had. They also have music on Thursdays in the patio so it makes for a great atmosphere.
(5)Cher M.
With Qdoba gone, I haven't had a good quesadilla in Elmhurst in a long time. HB Jones fills that void (and my tummy!) with a well-executed Tex-Mex quesadilla. chicken is tasty, the cheese is gooey and the tortilla crisp. It's a decent meal, although nothing special. Fills me up. The only drawback was the the guacamole. It's mostly tomatoes and onions with a smidgen of (extremely brown) avocado. I've eaten here three times and it's the same each time. Maybe I shouldn't order Mexican food from a place with "Hamburger" in the name. My boss loves the Cheeseburger Salad, though.
(3)Jeff C.
I want to be fair to HB Jones. They have a really nice outdoor eating area and the glassed in atrium (repurposed greenhouse) is very nice. However, I was very disappointed with the price of my lunch. Granted, a sit down restaurant with a waiter / waitress is always more expensive, but I didn't expect to pay $18 for a chopped salad and a glass of water. I suppose it's partially my fault since I didn't see the chopped salad on the menu, but I ordered it anyway. Honestly, it wasn't a bad salad, and the cost had no effect on my palate since I didn't know the cost at the time. It was just an 'okay' salad. The waiter was friendly and the atmosphere was nice, but I should have ordered a hamburger, Jiminy Crickets, the place is called "Hamburger Jones". Don't know what I was thinking. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Yelp!

My boyfriend and I wanted to try this place out for a while. We are huge foodies and always look at the menu ahead of time whenever we try a new restaurant. So, when we walked in we already knew what we wanted. Haha The place was empty. We were the only ones there. Probably didn't help that it was snowing. The bartender was pretty cool and the prices were fair. Our bill came out to 46 bucks, which included our meal, an appetizer and a couple beers. Now, I'm not very picky when it comes to food and niether is my bf, but he was a chef for a few years so he does judge the food a bit more than I,,wherever we go. He got the Tony Moon Burger which he said was good, but disappointing. Nothing special and the patty was very small. I got the Cajun chicken sandwich which I thought was really great. The only thing that disappointed me was that there was not a lot of sauce which tasted great when I actually got some with my bite. Next time I'm gonna tell them to load it up with the sauce. Why be shy with it? We both agreed that we'll have to come back in the summer when there is a band playing and when they have the green house ceiling open. It'll definitely be more entertaining.
(4)Peter Z.
I do really like their burgers, in particular the Merkts cheese and bacon burger. I've had some pretty good fries and tots here too. I've been meaning to try their ribs. A decent variety on their beer list, but they are often out of a few selections, and I don't think they've added to the beer list at all since the restaurant opened. Having macro lagers from a slew of different countries isn't all that impressive, especially with so many great local beers out there today. The service is usually good when sitting at the bar or at least in the bar area. Service at the outside tables is sometimes downright awful. My girlfriend and I sat outside for a Blackhawks playoff game and the servers were clearly overwhelmed and ill-prepared. To be fair, one of our servers (they seemingly serve you on a rotating basis) apologized without us even mentioning anything and comped our appetizer for us. In fact, it seems all the servers were apologizing to everyone all night. The servers seem to at least be aware of the shortcomings, so maybe management isn't giving the servers all they need? TL;DR: I'd recommend sitting at the bar for a burger and beer during lunch or when they're not busy.

Good sandwich-style food with an outstanding outdoor area and enough craft beers to satisfy snobs like myself. Great family place, but not if you're in a rush. Plan on having your drink and people-watching for awhile before your food comes and you'll leave satisfied.

This place has a great beer selection and the layout is awesome. A common theme among the reviews is that the food is decent but the service is poor. I have to say this is a very fair assessment. I have been there at least a half dozen times and have left there twice without being served. Another visit our server disappeared a few times and we were there forever. There were probably ten people in the whole place at the time. Really wanted to like this place but they need a major upgrade in the service department. 3 stars for food & drink - 1 star for lousy service.
(2)Andy M.
This place had bad service and layout. The burgers and meatloaf are bad and the ac and cheese tastes horrible. They also didn't have craft beer available the night I went Nd how can you mess that up. This place was better off as a nursery

Love this restaurant! Super fun vibe- half of it looks like a greenhouse :-) really great patio in the summer with outdoor music. Patio allows dogs in the summer! Go to spot in Elmhurst!

Went out of our way to try this place because of a living social deal and glad that we did. Upon arriving and departing we were greeted by the manager which contributed to the great experience here. The menu is huge, and we just stuck to the burgers and were not disappointed. Beer menu is above average. Based on the service alone we will be back. Very kid friendly in the atrium.

Second time going here. Sunday for dinner and right after we were sat they were swamped. Our waiter was so busy he barely came to our table and we waited forever for him to bring us refills. Food was good and we loved the atmosphere.

Great atmosphere. ..had lunch here with the kids and they loved it. Food was good all around!

Just got back from lunch. Guess where I went? ;) Driving into this place was a little bit confusing, I've never been, so I didn't know where to go. We ended up going in through the back. You can tell the place used to have a greenhouse and that's were we opted to sit. The inside dining area seemed to dingy for me. My friend kept her sunglasses on the whole time, it was pretty bright with the sun blaring in and all. I made sure I didn't squint though, nobody wants wrinkles!! Anyways, the waitress was very nice and we had two busboys to our table so we felt kinda special. Waters and pops always filled. There were three of us, we ordered the Nachos Grande with Carnitas, the Merkts Bacon Cheddar Burger and a side of tater tots (who doesn't get tater tots when it's an option?!). Their burgers come in two different sizes: a 10 oz. or you can downgrade to a 4 oz. and take $3 off. We just shared the 10 oz. The burger was ok, it didn't really have a lot of flavor, all I could really taste was the Merkts. Even though the cook cut it in thirds, it was still HUGE. It also came with fresh cut fries, which I devoured, smh. The tots were.....tots, bringing me back to my elementary years full of hot lunches. Now...the Nachos....wow. That was the best part of the meal. House made chips, topped with carnitas (Mexican braised pork), jalapenos, and cheesy gooey CHIHUAHUA cheese melted and browned to perfection. I was pleasantly pleased when I tasted the salsas too, just the right kick. The place itself is large and bright. It's cute. If I'm ever craving pulled pork nachos, I know were to go now. Plus their beer list...not too shabby, so I'll have to check them out again.

Second time we've been here and both times we've had the same server who was very courteous and attentive. The burgers are delicious. The ambience is nice with a large outdoor area and fireplace. The place also seems to be impeccably clean. Both times we've been here it has been later on a Saturday night and we were surprised there weren't more people but that has made for nice quiet environment to enjoy our meal so we can't complain. Will definitely keep coming back.

I didn't try one if the burgers but the tacos I had are worth mentioning. Lots of meet and they even have their own brand of hot sauce. A little pricey for the type of food it is but that's elmhurst for you I guess they can get away with it.

Went there on Sunday night and service was bad - they served one entree then 20 minutes later the other 3 of which my ribs were lukewarm at best - have no idea how 1 burger gets delivered then 20 minutes later two more burgers and a slab of lukewarm ribs. Everything was mediocre and I did not have high expectations to begin with.

I love this place, this is my second time and I was celebrating a friend's 21st birthday, it was the perfect place, I love the atmosphere! The waitress really took care of us, also thank you random guy for buying us drinks!

Good place for Lunch .. salad bar is great for lunch. Mac and cheese is great with or with out add on. Skirt steak sandwich is great on pretzel roll.

I really liked the patty melt. Hub liked skirt steak sandwich. Cool ambiance, nice patio.

What a pleasant surprise! I know gourmet burger joints are all the rage now, but this place really takes the cake (or patty, however you prefer). The husband and I bought a groupon for this place and finally sauntered in on a Sunday night. We opted for a table on the glass in patio, which was lovely. Our server was helpful and procured me a beverage, even though they didn't have my beloved Angry Orchard. I wont hold it against them. I opted for the Californication burger, with was a turkey patty topped with guacamole, pico de gallo and a whole wheat bun. It was a great combination of flavors, and I loved the fries that came with it topped with their gourmet ketchup. My husband opted for the BBQ burger, which is not what you think it is. It's a hamburger patty topped with barbecue pulled pork and grilled onions. Bring on the noms. The sauce was delicious, the meat was tender and the beef flavorful. He got the mac and cheese on the side, which he thinks might be the best he's ever had. My only gripe there was it didn't have a crunchy top. I can't wait to come back after a race - if you bring in your numbered bib, you get $2 off your meal.

The tilapia sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I've had in ages. It was really moist with delicious Cajun seasoning on a great bun. Nice job guys!

We went here yesterday for the first time, we had the Quesadilla, Stuff Mushrooms, Burgers and a Cookie, very good food and great service (Thanks Samantha!). It wasn't very busy when we first got there but as the time went on they got filled up pretty fast. Very large menu w/ lots of options, have to go back to try more. Very family friendly. See ya soon!!!

HB Jones occupies what used to be an organic type food store and from what I understand its claim to fame (or at least the "thing of things" to order) is the Cheeseburger Salad. Our visit to this half greenhouse/half little sports bar patio coincided with a hockey game, so, that being the case we opted for the sports bar. Fortunately, we got the little table by the little fireplace; my hope was that the TV suspended above my head would stay there. (The TV as well as my head.) Our server was all right but seemed to be working both sections; as our drinks came after we received our meal. I ordered the Cheeseburger Salad, mainly to see if all the fuss had fuss-ability. My guy ordered one of at least 10 gourmet hamburgers. This seemed to be what all the other guests were choosing. I hoped I wouldn't be odd woman out with my Cheeseburger Salad. His selection: the Merkt Cheddar Bacon Burger and this came with spuds and slaw as an additional side. I think he made the better choice, the cole slaw was delicious. It had a hot tamale taste and was really fresh. My Cheeseburger Salad reminded me of a cross between a casserole dish and a 7 layer salad of American extraction. The flavor was very good, but I think my comfort zone was being tested. Either that or it was the fact that the little sports dining area was really cold. HB Jones is a cute spot, there is plenty of street parking and a municipal lot nearby as well. I'm not sure if the food warrants "fan" status, but what we had was tasty enough that we will probably try it again sometime.

I went here last night with the mother, who's in town from Charlotte, and the BF. I'd been watching the renovations for a while, and then last week noticed it was super busy and finally open. I made sure to suggest it multiple times so we would actually try it... it worked, lol. We got there about 7 ish and was told there would be a 20-30 minute wait, which only turned out to be about 10 minutes, win. We got to sit in the greenhouse section, which is pretty cool and I'd like to sit there in a storm and watch the rain, lighting, or snow depending on the season. Their beer selection is quite nice, I got the Czechvar, which I last had in Ceske Budejovice where it's made, and the BF got the Haufbrau which is also yums. I'm a fan of real german/czech beer. The mother got water, as we were shopping all day and she was super thursday....it was good too. For noms, I got the over the border burger, which is a brat with grilled onions and cheese, it was pretty good, could've used some more onions, and had tots as my side. They were delicious. The BF got the Mexican Standoff, which has guac, pico, jalapeno salsa, chihuahua cheese and chorizo. It was awesome, and totally falls apart while you eat it. He had fries as his side and the were good. Mom got the patty melt, and it looked delicious, she said it was good but could've used more onions too. Her side was the veggie skewers and they were adorable and super delicious. So we had a delicious meal, very good beers, and the price is not bad at all, it was about 52, including tax and tip. So I didn't mind grabbing the bill as the mother got us lunch, and the bf was given a surprise haircut when I was getting mine done...he's a good sport, lol.

This is one of my favorite places for a good burger! Atmosphere is always upbeat and the greenhouse room makes this restaurant unique. Favorite thing about it is the live music! It's great to have another venue that features musicians from the area. There's always live acoustic music on Thursday nights and also bands on many weekend nights. Amber, the bartender, is the best!

In stopping by nearby Southtown Hot Dogs this weekend I was close enough to Hamburger Jones to be blindsided by a wonderful aroma emanating from the building. It wasn't long afterwards that I had bookmarked Hamburger Jones and placed it atop the queue of my "Places to try" list. The very next day a friend and I made the trip to Hamburger Jones to see if the food was as good as my nose seemed to think. In stopping by Hamburger Jones the first thing to notice is the somewhat unusual decor. There are three "sections" of the restaurant, the first one is very bright and looks like a giant greenhouse. The second is a very dark bar area which was rather active at the time I went due to NFL games being on. The final area was in-between (or as the Goldilocks might call it just right), not too dark, not too bright but fairly bland in decor. After sitting and going over their rather large menu I settled on a Merkts Bacon Cheddar Burger with fries. About 15 minutes later a bacon-less burger arrived. It didn't seem to match the description of the item on the menu, which indicated this was the same as the Merkts cheddar burger (which apparently has grilled onions) just with bacon added. My friend had also just ordered the Merkts Cheddar burger (sans bacon), and his didn't have grilled onions either. Right away when the food arrived he and I had trouble determining who's was whose as neither of them had bacon. My friend was served sans grilled onions and a few minutes later my burger returned with bacon on top. Despite it not having grilled onions (I wasn't going to complain about it anymore) I decided to dig in. The burger came on a soft and buttery bun. The beef itself was very tasty, cooked well done with no pink and was very well seasoned. The Merkts cheese tasted great, and I chose not to spoil this burger by adding ketchup or mustard. I however did add lettuce, pickle and non-grilled onion to my burger from the plate. The bacon was thick, crisp and a great compliment. Overall this is among the best tasting burgers of its type I've ever had. Overall I was thoroughly impressed with the food here at Hamburger Jones. The problem was both my friend and myself had our orders messed up in one way or another. The ambiance was somewhat awkward with a bus boy or trainee following a clearly annoyed waiter around the entire time. The food here was excellent, but there was an uncomfortable feeling the entire time I was here. I'll visit again at some point and hope that I have a better experience.

The highlight of HB Jones is the layout and experience of the restaurant. They have a nice outdoor seating area which makes for a great place to dine during the summer. Burgers are good and there are a ton of options. Not a huge beer list, but it's better than average. They also do a ton to support local fundraising organizations. I got a $10 gift-certificate here from a local HS fundraiser. You can support a local organization and get a $10 gift-certificate here by visiting the store at goboostershot.com .

I tried this place tonight with a Amazon Local coupon in hand. There were two of us at the table and we also ordered a third meal for carry out. All three meals were burgers. One was a build your own; the others were the Merkts Cheddar burgers. The good news: all three were cooked perfectly and came out with hot side dishes. The accompanying pickle, tomato, and lettuce were fresh and tasty. The only bad news: the carry out burger was missing the grilled onions that should have been on it. The service was excellent. Very attentive. I will definitely be back!

Finally got to stop in here after all the hype around E-hurst. This is an old grocery store/greenhouse converted into a restaurant. We came in on a Friday afternoon and sat in the "greenhouse" section of the restaurant. I had high hopes for this establishment, really I did. The hostess was also occasionally our waitress... wait, actually she turned into our waitress after our original waitress took our drink order. I ordered my new fave, a John Daly... I usually follow up with it's ingredients but our waitress seemed like she knew. The hostess came back and said "Um, what's a John Daily?"... whateves, no biggie, I just learned myself as I had been constantly ordering the ingredients until I was corrected, by a bartender. Food order came out.... my burger was drenched in grease, mac and cheese was bland as well as the coleslaw. Our hostess who became our waitress was nice but our check was pricey, and I left unsatisfied. I really want to give it another try because I liked the different atmosphere and it's not far from home. I just don't know that I want another greasy, flavorless meal.

Delicious, five star hamburger. Excellent service, even with our large party of 15 with many separate checks.

Its has a great environment and the location is prime. The food however is not my favorite. Its just ok. The menu is so large I always have a hard time finding what i want, I feel like they should shorten it up and make that food even better. The service isn't the best. There was a woman who seemed like the manager yelling at the staff right in front of me, I felt kind of awkward and sad for the poor guy. The staff definitely needs to shape up tho, just dont train and scold them in front of the customers. I really do want this restaurant to do well, so hopefully these comments can help!

Came to HB Jones after my parents enjoyed their first time here. Have to say it was a major disappointment. Burger had to be sent back because it was no where near well done. Tater tots were lukewarm, could tell they had been sitting out. We sat at the end of the bar near the kitchen, where it seemed the servers just stood and socialized the majority of the time. When we were clearly done with the meal, the girl behind the bar stood there for a good few minutes, ignoring that we were ready for our check. All of the staff seemed more interested in their social hour rather than serving customers. Would rather go to Smashburger!

Pretty cool place to chill/watch the games with the friends. Had their burgers the other day. So good they made me create a yelp account so I can tell you how good they are. They're good.
(4)Katie L.
I called for pickup service, jerk wings were good and lots of meat on wings, also the macaroni and cheese with merks cheese with pretty good, not great though. Would go again, planning on going in and ordering some night.

I stopped into HB Jones last night, hoping to grab a couple of gourmet burgers to go. While waiting at the bar, I found myself having a very good time, thanks to the bartender Crystal and a little vanilla porter. And when I went back through the warm atrium to the cold car, paper shopping bag in hand, I looked forward to a continuation of good times. And maybe that good-time meal flew away during a four-mile drive home, because the food in that bag disappointed in a big way. My wife asked for the Ugly American, as it appeared to be their basic burger. She seemed satisfied with it, and I had a few mouthsful. It was a good burger, though no better than average for "gourmet." Since it cost ten bucks, it's supposed to be very good, and I guess it may have hit that mark. It still wasn't as good as Back Alley Burger's five-dollar offering. At a similar price, my Moonburger was an Italian sausage patty. I wanted something a little different, but I expected so much more. There was little flavor in the sausage, and the chunk of lettuce and two thin slices of seen-better-days tomato didn't enhance my overall experience. And on ciabatta bread. Ugh. I don't get it. Half of it is sitting in my fridge and probably won't get eaten. I guess I regret not getting the Merkts cheddar burger, which got a good review here, but I avoided it because you can dump a bunch of hot cheese on a shoe and make it taste good. Ever have the size 10 1/2 at Fuddruckers? But the biggest disappointment came from the sides. My wife had the tater tots; I had the veggie skewer. Both stunk. How can anyone serve undercooked tater tots? Tater tots are designed to be fried up to a golden crunch. They offer maximum surface area of potato. If you like your Vitamin G (grease), you go with the tot. But HB Jones really dropped the ball. And I thought the veggie skewer would be bigger than a roll of quarters, not be so onion-dominant, and offer a taste of the olive oil and seasoning that it claimed it would on the menu, but it didn't. On the sides, I got side-swiped. This place will likely be fun in the summer. (Why they opened that big glassy atrium in the middle of winter is anyone's guess.) Perhaps they have a few worthwhile items on the menu, but I struck out on my first attempt. The friendliness of the staff was the only saving grace for me. Perhaps I'll try some nachos next time, as their tortilla chips are very good. But right now, I feel as if I got Jonesed at HB Jones.

Thanks to everyone that has posted reviews for HB Jones in Elmhurst. I want to give this place a try (even with a pay 12.50 for a $25 Groupon), but the reviews are Hit-or-Miss, so I am reluctant to purchase a 50% Off Groupon for HB Jones. All of us want some level of pampering when dining out, and yes, the food needs to taste better than what we can make at home ourselves. Another point worth considering is that business can provide replies to the postings on Yelp, but I do not see any replies from the HB Jones business team. Especially after posting a Groupon, a business should consider providing some reasonable replies to the Yelp postings for which they received low ratings.

Late Night Menu: Merkts Cheese Fries - Handcut w/ just the right amount of Wisconsin cheddar goodness! Veggie burger on kaiser roll w/ side of mac-n-cheese was good. The real winner was the Tony Moon Burger. Spicy Italian sausage blended w/ ground beef, topped w/ prov, lettuce, tomato, sauteed onion & fried egg on top. What?! Try it on a pretzel roll. I don't eat a lot of meat, but when I do I prefer mine rare to medium rare. Hand-formed patty was perfectly cooked and a good temp. Deliciously decadent! Wisely chose a nice side salad w/ haus vinaigrette for my side. But that friggin' Moon Burger was outta this world and worth every friggin' calorie. I'll just tack an extra mile or two on tomorrow's run. Our server was professional, friendly, attentive. We'll mos def be back for Merkts, meat, sangria & Rev Brew on tap. Nice atrium. Watched Hawks in playoff finals. Relatively clean bathroom.

The food was good but it is bar food...glorified and tasty bar food but bar food. With tip, a plate of sliders and a cup of less than hot chili (no cocktail or soda) and walked out dropping $17 on my own tab. That just doesn't cut it for a burger and beer kind of guy. I understand the higher end burger places are making a niche in the market but there has to be some sort of perceived value and I just didn't get it here. I will probably go back on a pub crawl because they had a great beer selection but as of now, not on my lunch card.
(2)Kara R.
Their food is good (from past experience), but instead of someone waiting on us, the three staff members did not offer us a drink(just waters when we sat). Instead they (the girl who seated us and another guy- possible bartender in black shirt) were eating behind the bar!!! Big no no in the restaurant biz and when we went to leave the girl who seated us was busy getting her back massaged by a different bartender in the greenhouse section. We stated this to them and they apologized. Just wanted a bloody and a meal, but left with nothing. Slow service and there were only two tables in there! Will try again, but management might need to train the youngins.

First time coming here, saw that it just opened up recently. I like burgers, I like craft beer, so I thought of hitting this spot. Food was okay, nothing to brag about, very plain burgers (especially when comparing it to a place like Back Alley Burger). Service needs some work to improve on. Witnessed some health issues by the kitchen windows such as waitresses handling money and handling food...big no-no. Place wasn't worth the money, maybe if the price was a tad lower. This is just a first impression, I'll be returning in the future, maybe try something else on the menu than a burger, even though the place is "known" for their burgers.
(3)Christine K.
I went to this restaurant tonight with my 70 year old mother. Although they had ample open tables, we were still asked to wait for over 30 minutes. Once we were seated and the waiter took our order (which he ended up placing incorrectly) it took a very long time to get our food. The waiter was not very attentive and it was not due to the fact that he was helping other customers. He spent a great deal of time standing about watching the big screen television. The service left little to be desired. The burger was good but the fries were not hot or crispy. They had an extensive menu which I am sure would appeal to people but I think they need to iron out the kinks before I would consider giving this place another shot.
(2)Serene S.
I loved the place. I love that you could create your own burger, and the servers are so nice I usually don't even have to ask them to refill my drink. Threir 10 oz beef patty is brilliant, but the place is a little pricey even with a groupon.
