While this place has good food, the service/management is terrible. Disrespectful, self-seeking, stuck up, and just plain rude. First the waiter made fun of my wife for a misunderstanding on the menu, which was due to a poorly written menu. Second, we had a $25 off of $50 coupon which we purchased from Restaurant.com ... it is written clearly on the coupon "This coupon does not expire." The waiter said, "well, it is not expired, we just don't accept it anymore." We argued back and forth for a while and he became very rude with us. He refused to take the coupon, even though we paid for it on Restaurant.com . Lousy crooks. I asked for a manager and he said that a manager was not present. We spent more than we needed to spend just to hit the $50 mark so we could use our coupon and now we are out our money because the restaurant just changed their mind on a whim. We will NOT be visiting again and we will tell all of our friends/family how terrible you are. Learn some manners and treat your customers with respect, you crooks.

It's been years since we ate at 100 South. The restaurant has since changed hands. I was leery about what to expect reading the one and two star reviews. However, most of those are from people who have only made a couple of Yelp reviews. It's sad that they were forced to review the service and not the food. Looks like that overshadowed their visits. We, on the other hand, ended up having a very nice dining experience. We had an attentive waitress and good food. Really, no complaints. The steaks are more reasonable than you would find at Gibson's, etc. Most of the steaks come in a 16oz size, so we spit the Delmonico. The steak was cooked to order and had a great flavor. The restaurant was very accommodating with the split. They even split the sides on separate plates. Just the right amount of food for us pseudo-seniors. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were good. Oh, and they know how to make a good martini. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Yelp!

My review is strictly on my food- I ordered for pick up. Although the waiter was friendly :) talked to me as if we've met before. Maybe we did now that I think about it.. I work across the street :) anyways! Steak salad. They cooked the steak perfect- medium rare. Sometimes the ends can be burnt and the meat too fatty but this was a good cut. It was full of leafy greens, and the usual, but the dressing is what really made me happy. Vinegarettes are usually so oily and running that I dread them. But they're healthier so tmi continue to eat it. This one had a nice consistency they didn't run off the food and at the same time didn't soak everything into sogginess. The salad was huge! I thought there is no way I can eat it all, but I have one cucumber left. This is why I order salads :)

Went last night - four people. Three had the steak (Delmonico and filet), one the fish. Appetizers, salad, soup, dessert (huge slices of cake). Food was all very good. Service was excellent. Will definitely go back.

One of a few Italian steak house classics that consistently offers fresh wholesome meals where quality equals quantity and the price is right. On a Friday night, every table is filled and everything from the New England Clam chowder, a mixed green salad - as memorably colorful and flavorful as a mista salad in Rome, blackened chicken with bowtie pasta, teriyaki glazed salmon, chicken Milanese - everything was wonderful, as always. From the first time I dined there as a grade school kid, 100 S. Chop House has delivered delicious meals over and over again. I'm always surprised that the waitstaff doesn't promote dessert, but I suppose that's okay. Having been born with a wicked sweet tooth, the temptation is usually too strong to resist, even when stuffed to the gills is the most accurate description, as it always is here. So for that reason, I give 100 S. 4 stars. Great waiter, John, probably should have asked, and my friends and I likely would have obliged. Otherwise, an overall fabulous meal with fabulous service!

Went here several years ago for a celebration dinner after my sons swearing in for the police department. Was the most awful food we ever had, and was chalking it up to maybe it being a week night and 8:30. Maybe the cook went home, who knows. I was thinking about coming back tonight for husbands birthday until I read the most current reviews. Seems to me nothing has changed, waitstaff slow and food still awful. Won't be going back now or in the future.

Perfect candidate for Restaurant Impossible. This place is in dire need of a new look, menu and chef. The best thing that came to my table was the garlic butter served with the bread. EVERYTHING seemed like it was made from a box or bought frozen. The mashed potatoes were the most disappointing followed by the baked Mac n' Cheese and then the poorly seasoned burger. The burger patty was burnt but the waiter was nice enough to have it remade. The fries were okay, but definitely not fresh. It's quite disappointing and the atmosphere is weird. I should have realized that there was something wrong with the place when it was completely empty while the cafe across the street was packed.

We live in the area and decided to give this place a try. We went here for an early dinner and the food and service was terrible. We ordered salmon with steamed broccoli, and the salmon was extremely overcooked and dry and the broccoli was cold. When we told the waiter about the broccoli he proceeded to touch the broccoli on the plate to check the temperature of it. I don't know what he was thinking, but I think it is safe to say no one wants their waiter touching their food. He asked if we wanted new broccoli, but after that we were done and ready to leave. We will not be going here again. Needless to say, I would not recommend this place.

Let's just say I left speechless. I was kind of okay with having a reservation and still waiting another 15 minutes to be sat. I was kind of okay with waiting another 15 minutes for bread. I was kind of okay with our food not coming out until 1.5 hours after we sat down. I was kind of okay with cold mashed potatoes. What I was absolutely appalled at is how the manager reacted to our concerns. We let him know that it had taken such a long time to get our food, and instead of an apology, which is all that would have taken to resolve the problem, he called our guest of honor 'unreasonable' and her sister a 'b*tch'. I was shaking with anger and could not eat my dinner when they started to tear up over such rudeness to them. I will say, that the server tried to be nice and brought us a free dessert, but no one wanted to eat it after the situation had gotten so far out of hand. This was an experience that I will never to forget and I would never go back there due to the actions of the manager.

The food was fabulous, the service was pretty good with friendly staff but booking a party, getting in touch with the appropriate person who handles the parties, staying in contact with the owner about the party, being charged correctly is beyond a joke. The place itself needs to be cleaner & more updated I will NEVER go back to this location to have a party & will NEVER recommend for a party as well; Sadly other members of this party went thru it as well so there are many people from the party that were disappointed and left with a bad taste in their mouth. The owner overcharged us then argues about refunding the right amount back Even when the bill came there were so many issues and money they tried to get away with (our deposit, over charging for drinks, over charging the per person amount, raising gratuity from what we were sent on the menu at 18% & raised to 20%, etc..) Our party went great but again, dealing with booking the party, communication with the person in charge and actually paying the correct amount is insulting. Im still waiting on my refund.... Weeks later & being ignored waiting on the owner

Absolutely terrible service. I went there with a large group (with a reservation). It took them an hour after seating is to even TAKE our orders, and then we waited nearly half an hour more for the food (which was at best mediocre) to show up. When my sister-in-law tried to speak with the manager to voice her concerns about the slowness of the service, he told her that she was behaving unacceptably and refused to listen to or acknowledge that there was any problem. She came back to the table in tears. I then walked to the front of the restaurant at the bar where he was still standing and asked if there was somewhere quieter where I could speak with him. He turned to me, looked me up and down, and told me in a very loud, rude, and confrontational way that if I wanted to talk we would talk right there. I pleaded with him to step away from the bar (where he had been all evening), all the while he continued to make a spectacle of our interaction. He finally walked me to a hall to the left of the main dining area and proceeded to inform me that both my sister-in-law and I were rude and clearly had no understanding of fine dining. He refused to listen to why we were less than satisfied with the service, and denied there being any problem with having to wait an hour after being seated for an order to be taken. He then told me that we needed to eat our food and get out of there. Everything he said was yelled, which attracted the attention of another restaurant patron who had been driving at the bar. The inebriated man inserted himself into to the situation and informed me that the manager was a personal friend of his and that if I didn't leave he would kick me out on my a** himself. Taken aback, I simply stared at the man for a moment and then attempted once again to explain to the manager why I was underwhelmed with the quality of service. He again interrupted me, this time calling me a snide b****. He then told me to just eat and leave, and then walked away. When we finally did receive our food, which was also disappointing, the check was very quick to follow. Upon its arrival, the drunk man that had threatened me earlier walked to our table, took the check out of the hand of one of my group, pointed at my sister-in-law and said "you're bad," pointed at me and said the same thing, and then told us all to get out of there. At no point did the manager attempt to control the patron that was actually causing a scene. He refused to listen to why we were unsatisfied with the time in which or order was taken. He was rude, appeared to be drunk, and acted childishly. The service was deplorable. In addition to all of this, the oysters Rockefeller had far more cheese than they should have, were lacking in flavor, and were overcooked. The escargot was over cooked and tough. I'm not sure what the manager considers fine dining to be, but this experience certainly did not hold up to his inflated opinion of the restaurant. I will never return and would never recommend it.

What can I say about 100 South? As good as It gets. If you drove pass this place before, stop in. Fresh seafood, good people, owner is nice to hell, etc. This place IS what dining out is/was/whatever and what people want in the years to come. i had 2 bartenders both days i came, Tom and Dennis. What can I say? They are awesome. The owner, Rich? I haven't seen such a cool guy up here, only place? down in st. maarten. So yes give this place a chance, THUMBS UP

Such a bummer! We've been here a couple of times and thought it was good enough. They've dropped the ball here and there, but nothing major, so we wanted to give them another chance. Tonight we went and got the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were completely frozen in the middle. I'm talking rock solid, frosted. We sent it back and it took a good 10/15 minutes before getting it back with microwaved meatballs. It tasted terrible. So, we just said no thanks. We got our bill and it was still on it. Seriously? "Oh yeah, I can take that off." Great idea. Our server apologized, but with a mistake that big you'd think a manager would've come to our table to apologize and we would've been compensated someway. No dice. I'll be holding out hope for it to close and for a new place to open up quickly, or at least new management. It's a great location so it's a shame they're wasting it.

I'm a little saddened to write this but I think we've had it with this restaurant which is too bad because we think the food is decent and they give you a nice pour. We've lived here for a year and probably have eaten here /take out/ bar apps about 12 times. The issue we have is customer service. We came for an early dinner on sweetest day and we were truly pushed out. Server hounded the table and rushed us out. It wasn't even busy- also had a manager issue with a restaurant.com coupon. I went alone last Friday to grab a drink/app before meeting friends for dinner elsewhere. The two lady bartenders couldn't have cared less that i was there. I had to ask for my drinks and app. They were happy to gab with "regulars" but that's it. I also got the vibe that the "trainee" bartender didn't care about the quality ofthe ingredients she was serving. Pretty sure she said"oh we'll screw it". I've never not left a tip before but there's a first time for everything. We may take out in the future but doubtful we'll dine in again. Bummer. However in the past when I've sat at the bar a younger man bartender is very very nice and friendly. If I had his schedule I'd maybe go in if he was working.

Went on a Sunday. It was empty. My server, Bruce, was very attentive. I ordered the baby back ribs. The portion was ridiculously big!!! Very tasty!! Only reason this place didnt get 5 stars is because I saw the bald waiter using his hand to put ice in the ice chamber...not cool. Bruce is Awesome!!!

Met up with an out-of-town colleague for lunch. He had no trouble getting from McCormick Place to 100 South using GPS. Very quiet lunch scene on a Friday. Very reasonable prices. OK wedge salad. Decent pretzel burger. Pretty good, crispy steak fries. With prices this reasonable, I remain tempted to utilize the train station across the street, and come in here for happy hour some time and not have to drive home. The ambiance reminds me of a Wisconsin Supper Club, with appropriate interior styling and Sinatra playing, but with slightly brighter lighting, at least during the day.

I went here with a friend on a Friday night and I absolutely loved everything about the place. Great bar, awesome wine selection, great food, fast service. Scallops were phenomenal and filet was great, too. I'll be back! :D

Manager, Rich, loves to spend time talking to his friends at the bar rather than ensuring that his guests are happy and served properly and in a timely manner. We called to make a reservation for my brother's birthday dinner and made sure to mention his birthday. The person on the phone let us know that a special slice of ice cream cake would be brought out. Anyway, we went to the restaurant tonight and the food was fine. I had escargot, oysters Rockefeller, and a salad. The rest of the table had ribs and steak. Everyone liked their food. Mine was good but nothing special. When it came time to order dessert, we were given our options and chose the Grand Marnier crème brûlée. It came out with two spoons. There were five people at our table. The waiter set the dessert down quickly and left before we could say anything. We figured that he was going to get the cake! Minutes pass, and nothing. Meanwhile Rich is sitting at the bar right by us seeing that we are trying to get our waiter and does nothing. We finally catch the waiter and ask him what happened with the surprise cake. He says that he had no idea about the birthday. He finally came back with the cake after that. Once the cake was done, we had to wait about 15 minutes for the bill. Rich was useless, once again. I was about to get up and do it but then the waiter came. Anyway, the service is mediocre and the management is non-existent. We won't be back.

Where do I start?! I took my 2 year old daughter out to dinner for a Valentine's Day date and I was fortunate enough to get a table at this wonderful restaurant! My server, Lana, was sweet, polite, knowledgeable, upbeat, patient (2 year old diners can be trying) and very helpful. We started off with the Grilled Calamari, which was nothing short of amazing. Which I am very picky about grilled calamari because it has to be fresh and done just right and they were spot on. We then had the New England Clam Chowder which I loved and my daughter could not get enough of. She cried when it was finished. For the entree I had the Kosar Steak, which is an 8oz Steak (I ordered it medium rare) with 3oz Lobster and Asparagus and the steak was done perfectly and the entire plate was nothing short of amazing! Soleil (my daughter) had the Rigatoni with Marinara from the kids menu, she loved it and when I got to eat some of the leftovers later in the night, I gotta say, it was pretty darn awesome. While most restaurants kids menus are basic, this was above and beyond. I will say, it is slightly on the pricey side, but once you have the privilege of eating this food, it leaves you wondering, why don't they charge more? Its worth every penny and more. If you have the opportunity to eat here, you will not be disappointed. On a side note, thank you 100 South for helping to make this day so special!

We stopped here for dinner tonight - using our restaurant.com coupon for $25 off $50 or more. The food and service were terrific. We had the calamari and oysters on the half shell as appetizers. For our entrees - my husband had the bone-in veal parmesan (great!) and I had the filet trios. The service and food were great - and we'll definitely be back. It has a great "supper club" atmosphere - and wonderful martinis.

Last night, I brought in a party of twelve in for a celebration, none of us having been there before. The experience was terrible from start to finish. We arrived at 7:19 for a 7:15 reservation. We were told to wait by the bar as we could see our already set table, and waited for fifteen minutes to be sat. Our server was genial, a nice guy, but service was terribly slow. It was an hour later that our dinner orders were taken, not delivered, TAKEN. Because of our celebration, we had reservations at a second venue a little later that evening and were now running late. Everyone was frustrated and eager to be along. One of our members took the manager aside to complain about the extremely slow service, needing to be heard. The manager then told her that she was being unreasonable, and to go sit down and wait for her food, refusing to hear her. Another member of the party became even more frustrated with the manager's treatment, and tried to discuss this with him. The manager then called her a "Snide B*tch". Extremely insulted, we asked for our check to be hurried, not yet having had our dinner served. A drunk patron then came to our table, insulting us further and told us to leave. He said we were mean people and he stole our printed check. Fearing escalation, another member of our party started filming the altercation. The customer became irate and shoved and grabbed our member. The manager was unphased. Other restaurant patrons were just as confused and concerned as we were. We left immediately, never having been so degraded in our lives. Needless to say, none of us will ever set foot in that restaurant again. The food was ok, our server was nice, but the manager knows nothing about customer service. He was rude, insulting, and crass.

My bf really wanted fish and chips, after searching a bunch of local places... it was this or Silverado grill. We opted for 100 South. The hushpuppies weren't that great according to my bf, but he said those are difficult to do well with. His fish was really good though. I got the ribs, I was a little worried when I read it came with a chipotle bbq sauce... but they were really great. Mashed potatoes were lumpy and watered down at the same time. I think this place has entrees down pat, but needs to work on their sides a little bit more. Next time I will get a baked potato.

Not pleased. Food was decent. Service was not. The place was practically empty. We had the bartender as our server. He barely offered us anything. We had to ask - for more drinks, forgotten pasta, dessert options..He wasn't friendly. We had a group of 8, so I assume he knew he already had an 18% tip coming, so didn't have to work very hard.

I have spent the past 48 hours trying to write this in the most calm mannered way, as to provide a useful review for future patrons, rather than an all out rant on the most unprofessional, atrocious dining experience i have ever had. So to that end, i will begin with the few positives. They had a nice beer selection on tap and from what i heard from my dining partners the wine selection was equally enjoyable. My chicken ceasar salad was fine. I don't know what they put in the butter but it was the best part of the experience. With this being said, i should explain the 1 star I have given, which would have been 0 if that would be a possible choice. I went last Saturday evening, for what was to be a lovely dinner to celebrate my upcoming wedding. We had reservation for a group of 12 at 7:15, and arrived at 7:19, a timing error on our fault, not being from the area. The restaurant was crowded and we had to wait. This didn't bother us initially until it became apparent that our table would not be ready and we were sat at a table for 10. A little tight, but again, no biggie in the scheme of things. Our waiter was polite, a little odd in his mannerisms and style, but what is life without characters. After a round of drinks is ordered, we wait. and wait. and wait. After an hour of waiting for our order to be taken, we finally placed our order. At this time I felt it was important to mention to the manager that i was a little irritated by this level of service at a "fine steakhouse" and that a nearly 2 hour wait for seating and ordering when we do have a reservation is not really good service. To which he became combative, told me i did not understand fine dining and to go sit. After a few minutes of shock that someone in the service industry would be so so rude, i decided to mention that it was rather unacceptable to speak to people that way. He so eloquently said "you are unacceptable" Never once in my life would i have expected that to come out of a managers mouth. This situation could have been rectified by a sincere apology, honestly even a fake one would have sufficed. But instead, the situation escalated. After telling my dining partners what had occurred, my sister decided to speak to the manager. During this conversation he called her a "snide b*tch" and another patron joined the conversation and threatened police action, for any tab skipping, although none of that was ever necessary. A b*tch, she was called a b*tch by management. She returned to the table nearly in tears. We tried to finish our food as quickly as possible just to get out. This is where things get intense. The same patron mentioned above approached our table as the check was dropped. Grabbed is out of my friends had, all the while yelling at us, verbally assaulting us and telling us to leave. As the manager responded in a previous review, he did indeed pay for our tab, but this was not out of the kindness of his heart, for if it were he would not have pushed my friend who was filming the incident just in case they were to call and say we skipped out check. NO apologies were issued nor was the other patron told to stop assaulting us. It was out of control and beyond escalated the situation. In conclusion, the management is beyond crass, unprofessional and allows patrons to be equally crass and violent without any repercussions. The food, ok, the server very nice, but that is it. This is a zero star restaurant, attempting to be fine dining.

Had a "men's night out" with a couple of dudes from my 'hood in Geneva. After tossing some back in d'town Geneva, we hopped on the Metra to Elmhurst with the single intent of getting our steak on. Started the meal with some oysters which were really fresh and delivered to the table in a very presentable fashion on a bed of ice. For the main course, I had the ribeye while my comrades enjoyed the filet. Everyone really enjoyed the steaks immensely. We washed the steaks down with some nice red wine. The waiter we had (wish I could recall his name) was a great guy and attentive to our needs. I plan on coming back to 100 South really soon. After only 12 hours of having eaten there, I already feel the urge to go back!

E....I don't know why people say this restaurant is good.... All right, first of all , my apologize to dressed so casual to come to the restaurant, maybe I made the waitress upset?.... Anyway.... Don't expect any smile from any waiter's or waitress' face. I ordered a pasta and a dessert, which spend me 18 dollars and I use the coupon 10 dollar for 20(come on! I'm a woman, what more do you except I can order?!) the food is ok... But the service is not even better than the food..... I don't want to go there anymore.... It is too mean to only give one star... So I give two....

We have eaten here twice. Great steak & sides. The wine list is decent. Regarding the service....wait staff should not huddle close to the tables & gossip about their personal business. Keep it in the back...customer service is a great reason why you will receive repeat customers.

Oh, what a great restaurant! A friend of mine came here last night, and we were pleasantly surprised. The host and manager greeted us at the door, and we were seated quickly. The food was great, but the best part of the night was our waiter, Bruce. He was full of excitement and took care of us very well. Overall, it was a great experience!

NEVER HAD A WORSE EXPERIENCE IN A RESTAURANT IN MY LIFE. Went for a celebration with a group of 12 on a Saturday night (of course we had reservations). Was seated at a cramped table - meh ok. After an hour we had 1 round of drinks & no food orders in - annoyed. Things when from bad to worse when we talked to management about the speed. Instead of listening to our concern, he insulted our party & ignored our issues telling people to sit down - resorting to name calling! Totally unprofessional. Now really annoyed we vowed to eat & never return - trying not to let it ruin our celebration. However that's when the most bizarre things happened - AFTER we ate, easily 30 minutes after this whole discussion transpired- a restaurant patron ripped the check out of my hands and started yelling loudly "GET OUT" repeatedly. We were SO confused it took a bit for us to understand what was happening - he was kicking us out! The manager was nowhere to be found & things were getting pretty heated. Thankfully a bus-boy restrained the other patron while we willingly left - receiving apologies from people who looked confused as they watched. Only good thing I can say about this place was we didn't end up having to pay for our bill as the other restaurant patron did! When we moved on for the evening to other local businesses a number of other patrons came up to us asking - "what happened" to which we had no reply. It was honestly the weirdest experience. I'll certainly never got back.

I have been here countless times since I moved to Elmhurst from the city about 2 years ago. I absolutely love this restaurant. To me it feels like a great hole in the wall that you would find in the city. The ambiance is classy, and romantic on one side... and on the other area near the bar has red booths and old photos giving it a swanky old school character. The live piano music adds to both the swanky and romantic ambiance. As for the food, I can't say enough. Huge portions at very reasonable prices! More importantly, the food tastes great every time. My favorites are the Chicken Parmesan (best I've ever had!), and the blackened chicken with pasta/cream sauce. The crusted steaks are great too! I also enjoy just coming for drinks and sitting at the bar listening to the piano music. The wait staff are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. I don't have a single bad thing to say!

We love this restaurant. We always get the same server, Carl, who always offers great suggestions. They are also flexible with the menu options, letting you swap side dishes, etc. The steaks are always cooked perfectly. Good portions, good value. Creative flavors.

It's only fitting that my 100th review should go to 100 South! We've been living in Elmhurst for over 5 years now and not sure why we haven't been here yet! It's a small restaurant, we had no problem getting a table without a reservation on a weeknight. Our server was great, he explained the menu/specials thoroughly and was able to offer suggestions. Our food was A-OK. I had the tomato bisque soup and the steak salad. The soup was delicious and my salad was eh. My husband ordered the pork chop which was good, but we both have had better. I've seen complaints about the prices.... I thought they were very reasonable, when you order the specials, the prices reflect that of a "Wildfire" menu.... just FYI.

We went here last Friday and I loved this place! We mainly went because we had coupon, (also because the reviews on yelp were so good) and we're so glad we did! We went at about 8pm. We made a reservation but it was snowing a lot and not all that busy. Which, honestly, I would say is a good thing. The only negative thing I have to say is that we got seated in the center of a room and the other waiters were going around our backs a lot and it was a bit cramped. If it had been packed, I'm sure it would have been a lot worse. But, because it wasn't very busy, it was certainly bearable. I got the steak pasta. It was $16 and worth every penny. Not to mention my boyfriend and I could have shared it and had more than enough food for both of us! It was a HUGE serving. My friend and I got side salads that were very good. All the dressing were made in house. My boyfriend and her fiancee both got sausage gumbo that was very good too. I thought it was nice that they brought bread to the table to start, and that most entrees came with a soup or salad. That always makes me more willing to pay for higher prices. And much to our surprise, the prices weren't that high, which made it all the more enjoyable! My boyfriend got the chicken Marsala which very good. A friend of mine got crab cakes, and her fiancee got the large scallops dish. Both, also, very good. The scallops were $28 which is pretty high, but scallops are expensive and it was a big dish so I wasn't all that surprised. I don't think it was really... "unreasonable". The wine was decently priced. A pretty big glass of your run of the mill Chardonnay was $7.25 I believe. My friend got a martini that was $7. Overall, everything was fairly priced. Our waiter was great, very attentive, and overall entertaining. We had a restaurant.com coupon that we got to use, too. We each got exactly what we wanted for dinner, and a drink each and without the coupon it was $60. I would say our friend's was more like the $70 range before tip but they ordered more expensive entrees & drinks than us. Overall, for the very classy setting of the place, serving sizes, drinks, and overall experience the price was very reasonable! I would definitely love to go back!

Excellent food as my bone in chop was cooked to perfection. Our Server, Bruce, was very attentive and sincere. We really appreciated it and look forward to eating here again

Always good! The Delmonico was delicious and the desserts are huge! This is not the first time we have come--it's one of the places we like to bring our East Coast friends to eat Midwest caliber steaks (without a trek into the city!). We've always enjoyed excellent service and honest, individualized recommendations. They accepted a coupon I received for checking in on Yelp without comment too!

We had been there twice. And overall., not very satisfied with the food. We tried aged beef for $48. The price was relatively high. I asked for medium but the outcome was well done. The first time I asked for medium as well, and the result was rare. .. So, conclusion was that they were not very good at steak. My husband ordered the lobster pasta. The lobster was very salty. The sauce was not delicious enough. The service was not bad. And parking was very easy in Elmhurst downtown.

Overall-really good. I ordered chicken picatta with a side of pasta. The chicken picatta was classic and excellent. The pasta was al dente with a respectable red sauce. The pasta did need to be drained more as it was swimming in water which diluted the sauce. It was garnished with parsley; fresh basil would have been better. The bread and garlic herb butter starter was tasty. We were tucked in a corner which was cozy. To improve the presentation of the food and drink, may I suggest using better plates and cups. My awesome chicken was served on a plate that was very thick oversized and full of gray scratch marks. My tea cup was served from the same set of thick scratched set of dishware. This does take away from the presentation of overall well made food. My husband ordered a sausage, broccoli and pasta dish that was delicious! It was served in a beautiful big bright white bowl. This dish was perfect in taste and presentation. The wood work where we sat needed a good dusting. This place is very close to a 5 star with a bit of updating and tweeking. Prices for lunch are very reasonable. I would definitely go back.

We want to start trying new places for dinner and had never been to 100 South, so we thought we would give them a try. We walked in to see friends sitting at a nearby table. We knew we made a good decision. We were given warm bread with a wonderful garlic and chive butter. Nothing better than starting a meal with warm bread. We had delicious oyster rockefeller for an appetizer!! Next were the salads. The balsamic dressing was very flavorful. I ordered the filet mignon with a portabella topping. The wine sauce was wonderful. Hubby had the oscar topping. Oscar topping was good, but not what he expected. I also loved the old pictures on the wall, but thought the fake flowers in the planters were just collecting dust. We look forward to going there again.

We just had our office holiday party at 100 South and we couldn't have had a better experience. We had reserved the private dining room adjacent to the bar. The ambiance of the room was a perfect setting for a private party. The food and service were OUTSTANDING! Very reasonable prices for large portions and delicious food! All 13 guest could not say enough about the food and atmosphere. I would DEFINITELY recommend 100 South Chop House, especially for private parties.

My boyfriend & I went here for Valentine's Day dinner. The service was great! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The herb garlic butter and bread was a nice surprise. Tons of flavor and it breaks away from the traditional boring bread and butter at most places. The lobster bisque soup is amazing. So creamy and filled with real lobster. The corn also adds a nice sweetness and texture to it. We both ordered the petite 8 oz filet which was delicious. They were both a little under cooked than what we like but they were still great. I recommend adding the Parmesan crust, too. Overall, dinner was really good. The live piano player added a nice romantic touch for Valentine's Day. Be prepared to pay more than you'd like, though. It was pretty pricey but it's nice to splurge on occasion.

An unexpected treat! 100 South Chop House made a wonderful impression on me at a Yelp event a few weeks ago. I made it a whole two days before I ventured out to their restaurant for a full meal...I'd call that some pretty good willpower. ;-) Danny took care of us on Friday evening. We went in without a reservation which worked out fine. The patio was open and full of happy folks eating and drinking the night away. We sat in the dining area off to the left when you walk in the front door. I sat on the booth side with my back to the window. It was comfy and I was happy. Things move a little slower here. Actually the pace was a good sort of slow in the beginning. Attentive without being obtrusive. Drinks and food arrived at just the right pace. I was a little disappointed with my final impressions, but I'll get to that later. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs! We started with a fresh baked loaf of Rosemary and herb bread and the most delicious herby butter! We ate it all...and then some. We order two appetizers. For two of us. Well, not exactly. I had tried the sausage and peppers at the event earlier that week. Seeing as that is one of my hubby's favorites, he was on board right away. But, the shrimp cocktail was calling my name! He's not a big shrimp eater and the cocktail is available by the piece. So, we ordered two shrimps and the sausage and peppers to start. These were the largest shrimp I have ever seen! Completely worth the $3 per piece charge. And they were tasty. I was so glad that I tried them. The sausage while delicious was not quite what I expected. It's my own fault for not asking. At the event, the sausage were cut into bite sized pieces and practically caramelized. Cooked just the way that I prefer sausage. At the restaurant, the presentation is gorgeous! Three large sausage links on a plate loaded with beautiful peppers. The sausage tasted good, but it wasn't cooked the same way it was earlier in the week. It's a matter of personal preference and my husband thought it was just perfect. Honestly, that app was enough for at least four people. We could have split it and made it our meal. We struggled with our dinner selection. It's a chop house and we wanted to try unique entrees that we haven't tried before. After a lot of talk with Danny an each other, here's what we chose: Skirt Steak Grecian Style. This was the hubby's choice and it was very, very good. The portion was abundant and exactly what we wanted...unique. The steak, the juices and seasonings were all over the French fries. It was a fork and knife meal. Just right. Sea Bass Velasco. This was my first sea bass experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a large portion of fish with a jalapeño sauce...I was fairly warned by both the menu and Danny. This was paired with mashed potatoes that were melt in your mouth awesome! I ate about half of the meal and used more of that savory bread to enjoy some of the sauce. Wonderful combinations that were new to me and quite appealing. It was a really great experience right until the entrees hit the table. Our server had us (inside) and then picked up tables on the outside patio. This seemed to cause a catastrophe because then I couldn't get a refill on my drink (to help tame the jalapeño sauce he warned me about), getting take home containers became a struggle, getting the check was near impossible and paying it - even worse. We finally ended up having a different server run our card. The pace changed (like a light switch had turned off) and we walked out a little annoyed. I'm sure it was just a logistics thing. Perhaps a server working inside should stay inside and a different server should work the patio. Hopefully it was a fluke because I want to go back. actually, I AM going back and I am going to keep trying their unique dishes.

Not bad... not bad at all. The food was amazing. They recommended the Calamari w/ a Thai chilli sauce as an appetizer; they were delicious, and I too would recommend them. The portions are decent, especially for a steak house... but don't expect to leave paying less than 80$ for two people to really enjoy themselves. The Atmosphere is a little lacking, but still decent. It's cute, with leather back bench seating and nice clean white table clothed tables. The bar is decent, but more of a 'lower class' than one might expect for a high priced steak house. Dim the lights a little more and turn off the NASCAR playing on the TVs and you could potentially enjoy a romantic night out. The wait staff is a little 'green' when it comes to serving. They gave me the impression they use to work for Applebee's as servers there before coming to work at 100 South. I'd recommend a little more training here, but it wasn't a kill in terms of service.

This place has always been one of.my favorites in the area. The service couldn't be better. A warm loaf of fresh baked bread comes to the table first followed by amazing cream of broccoli soup that was slightly too salty. The strip steak was tough but that's my bad choice. The fries were cooked perfectly. Order the filet, it melts in your mouth! The mojito are top notch. As were the other cocktails ordered at my table. For desert I tried the chocolate cake. It was perfect!

Overall the food was good, service okay. This was my second time at this restaurant within a week and probably my last. I have never gone to a restaurant and not be able to order a salad with tomatoe and onion only. The waiter's explanation why they could not do it, the salads are pre-made and each salad only has one tomato wedge and a few onions. Uh? My wife was disappointed which only tainted the rest of the evening.

We stopped here for lunch. Please see ratings below: The ambiance of the restaurant gets a 5/5 Tiffany was our server. She gets a 5/5 for customer service! The complimentary bread + garlic butter with herbs sauce was amazing 5/5 The fried calamari was not great at all. It gets a low 2/5 The chicken quesadilla was also not the greatest we have had. Also getting a low 2/5. While the fried calamari and quesadillas were really bad, the overall restaurant and the server was great. There may have been several other great choices on the menu, we just happened to pick the worst 2!

Wife & I & youngest son (30) went on March 11th 2010. The waiter was a bit young , did a great job, but odd personality. Expensive YES but we knew that before we went. And were willing to pay the prices for a decent cut of meat. BUT WHAT we GOT was definitely NOT PRIME. GOOD but NOT PRIME. My son got the end cut of the fillet. We buy alot of our meat wholesale. So too us to get the end piece as a dinner was degusting. Siverskin and all. We as a family usually use that end cut of meat for stir fry. You should never serve it. Agree hit or miss. Would we go back? Perhaps 1 last time. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL GET IT TOGETHER. We in Elmhurst would REALLY LIKE THAT!!!

Good stuff. Our return visit to 100 South was even better, despite the "oogy moogy noodle puddin" couple next to us. Ah, young love. My bowtie pasta dish with grilled chicken was excellent. Regarding the chicken, it was the best grilled-chicken-on-top-of-pasta I've ever had, and I've had many. Crunchy asparagus, creamy sauce, pleasant aftertaste. I chose well with my entree. For only $15, the entree was big enough to be my leftover lunch today. My wife's filet was exactly what she got last year, and it was exactly what she wanted. Server Tomas was friendly and helpful, and he had a good sense of humor regarding my single-malt queries. Oh, and when they offer soup or salad, I strongly suggest the salad with their house balsamic. Man, that was great salad dressing. The kind of dressing that kicks you in the teeth and leaves you wanting more. Quality greens and add-ins too. Chickpeas in a salad? Nice. If I had to ding this place... we were near the flight path of kids going to the bathroom several times and having a party doing it. Somehow. And other people were very loud with in their conversation. Judging by their forty-feet-away discussion, no one should mess with Dominic. Ya got that? Yes, we came here armed with a coupon, so the bill was easier to stomach. But I don't think anything was overpriced. In fact, it appears that they offer a coupon through Yelp, so give it a shot! It's good stuff.

I'm Vinny from the origanal Orange County New York... I travel for work and myself and co-worker decided to try this place out... It looked nice and everyone was polite. It felt like a local hangout for young and old alike! We sat at the bar and was greeted by an energetic wonderful bartender who knows her stuff! We ordered steemed clams, shrimp cocktail, salad, bread, spaghetti+meatball, macNcheese, demonic I steak, mashed N green beans, and a dozen or so TALL drinks!!! We had a damn feast!! There was a nice old guy playing piano which was nice, and the food was GREAT!!! I would Deff go back there again...!!!

Food was good, service was not bad. It's not the best bone-in ribeye I've ever had but also not the most expensive I've ever had. So from a value perspective, it was a decent meal and I would recommend it. I'll probably go back.

I had lunch here with a couple of co-workers since I work right down the street. For some reason downtown Elmhurst is just full of Italian-esque restaurants, and this place is no exception. They have a small outdoor patio which was perfectly shaded with umbrellas. I got the chicken parmesan which was great. They have fairly large portions here which gave me lunch for the next day. The other dishes my co-workers had looked great and they enjoyed them as well. I would go back again, if I'm not sick of Italian by then! Mix it up Elmhurst!

Food was absolutely amazing. The bread was warm and I loved the garlic, chive butter that came with. The clam chowder was a little salty, but still creamy and delicious. For the main dish, I had the cheese ravioli and my friend had the blackened chicken bowtie pasta and finished off with chocolate layer cake for dessert. The service could've been a little better, but overall and great place to eat and highly recommended.

My wife and I recently moved to Elmhurst from Ohio and have been enjoying visiting local restaurants. It was my turn to pick, so I suggested the Chop House. What a mistake! I honestly have not had this bad a dining experience in many years. It started off fine. Our server, Christopher, was pleasant and recommended the calamari, which we ordered while deciding on our entrees. I also ordered a gin and tonic. The first warning sign came when the tonic was flat and the lime wedge in my drink looked to be at least a couple of days old. They have a full bar, so one would think that they would cut their garnishes fresh for a Friday night. The calamari was good, but not exceptional, with a hint of heat. We had worked our way through about half of the large portion when our salads arrived. We were at a two-top and there wasn't much room, so our salads were placed on top of our dirty appetizer plates. We'd taken two bites of our salad when our steaks arrived and were shoved onto the table amid the other plates. Our server apologized for the food arriving so quickly and then promptly disappeared, leaving us to top up our wine glasses from the bottle we ordered. By the time we finished our salads, our steaks were cold. I ordered the flank steak, which came in a pool of broth and was topped with fries. The fries had become soggy and flavorless. Our waiter made a perfunctory pass by to see how things were. When I told him that my food was cold, he asked me if I wanted it reheated. Seriously? These aren't leftovers. Then he vanished again. I asked the hostess if there was a manger on duty. She seemed confused by the question. Another staff member came by and asked us what was wrong. We told him our food had come out far too soon and was cold. He grabbed the plates and went into the kitchen. At this point, I was done with 100 South Chop House, but there was more to come! Fresh steaks were brought out, but the flank steak I ordered medium rare was served to me decidedly well done. Was it a reheat? Was it microwaved? I don't know because I had lost my appatitie. Our original server reappeared and asked again how things were. I told him my steak was overdone and he just walked away. Later, when he asked if we wanted to take the leftovers home, I told him I really had no interest in overlooked meat. He ignored this, too. Then some sort of ice cream pie that we did not order was brought out, maybe as an apology? Neither of us had any interest in it. I don't even like nuts, which it was full of. We just wanted out. This lovely experience totaled $135. They didn't even offer to comp the entrees. What a disappointment. We won't be back.

Great service, sat outside on a really nice patio but the food was fair at best. The waiter did a great job of talking up the menu and making each of our entrees sound like a great choice, but the food was bland, overcooked, and unfortunately not making us want to return. We each had a wide variety of food (fish, pasta, steak) and each meal was fair at best. Sorry :(

We went here when we first moved to Elmhurst. We didn't know what to expect, but really liked the atmosphere. It was very relaxing, and cozy. We had the Dry Aged steak per the waiter's suggestion and it was amazing. There was a great crowd of people there, some sports on the TV's at the bar, and the service was excellent. Prices were far lower than I would have expected here. I love this place. Great food....better prices.

This place was horrible. I would give it ZERO STARS if possible. Service was terrible. The floor was dirty and had not been vacuumed in a few days at least and makes you scared to even think about what the kitchen looks like. The food had the worst presentation I have ever seen, and it tasted about as bland as it looked. The salmon was undercooked, the two medallions where obviously half the size they should have been, it only took four bites to finish them, and you could tell the mash potatoes were straight out of the box. You are better off finding another chop house then wasting your money on this place. If you have ever been to a real steak restaurant, go anywhere but here.

This place if great for the price! I honestly will return more than likely! I had the Italian & the Chicken soup (both have very unique names but I can't remember) but they both were fantastic! I also ordered the Marsala in which I was given a choice of pasta along with the soup but I never got a chance to choose. Nonetheless the pasta was good as well, but it could of had a little more seasoning!. The Tilapia Lemone was tasty and with an accent of fresh lemons I was pleased! I had no problems with using my Yelp deal, although the host had not seen one before she did not question me but went directly to her manager to get exact instructions on how to ring me out. = Good Customer service. Good Customer Service always warrants a return from me so I will be sure to go back. Thanks to Yelp Deals I spent $10 + $1.71 in store for tax. Love IT!!

My buddy Corey Mac was getting married on 5-18-12 in Elmhurst IL, so i stopped for some chow. I got the all you can eat soup (clam chowder) and salad, (with balsamic vinaigrette dressing), and bread sticks. Also had water, and Becks (Non alcoholic beer) service was great, water was always filled. Clam chowder was awesome. salad was off the hook. i paid about $13.00 NOT including $3.00 tip. will go back again, and again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went for an early dinner after work... I would have loved to have given 5 across the board, but the oysters we ordered for our app weren't fresh. They were dry and just unsatisfying. Still took 'em down tho! I fckn love oysters. Ordered the rib eye, which was prepared perfectly, alongside the filet feature consisting of 3 2oz mini filets, each with a different preparation. Wonderful. Wine list is condensed but some hidden gems, went with the Jordan Cabernet reasonably priced opposed to other joints. Service was impeccable. Engaging, attentive, made great recommendations, poured wine throughout the evening, and did not rush us out after paying the tab..but what really won me over was that I was extremely thirsty that night, and I was pounding down my waters. Our server never once let me go lower than half way. And I mean at least 8-9 times. Who does that!? Would def return, just wish I could give a 5er!!

I would give this restaurant 3.5 stars if I could, but it will have to settle for 3. Why this restaurant could have been 5 stars, but fell short: Food - Pretty good!! Bread came out hot and fresh and came with herb butter, their creamy chicken limone soup was fantastic. I ordered the chicken parmigiana, it was huge and delicious. It wasn't greasy and oily. My hubby ordered the Sea Bass which tasted fresh and really good. Portions are really huge though, I never understand why restaurants make portions the size of dump trucks!! No wonder why there is an obesity problem in America!! Oh well..... Service - Fantastic, I believe our servers name was Danielle. She was very nice and did an awesome job. So the reason why this restaurant dropped down so many starts is because you actually have to sit in there and eat. YIKES!! The lighting is bright. The way the seating was arranged it felt like you were sitting in a cafeteria. We ate there pretty early, so it was kind of empty which didn't help the ambiance. When it started to fill up, it felt a little more like a restaurant though. Decor is hideous though, they have those huge generic, cheesy wine bottles on the back ledge. I think ambiance really sets off your expectations of how the food will be, if the decor is crappy you expect crappy food, if it's nice, then you of course expect great food. Overall though, I would come back again for the food and service.

Nothing like going to a costume party and leaving quickly because you, and 6 others at the party catch the bartender cheating the bill. We were there Saturday, October 24 at Swank, the martini bar. Here are just some of the complaints I heard since the party: 3 rounds of the same thing, 3 different prices. No detailed bill, bartender quoted $92.00 for a credit card, slip came back as $100.00. $23.00 round, $40.00 given, $13 in change given back twice). The mobster mentality seems to be following them into Swank. I would, under no circumstances, go back there again!

Before I begin my review I would just like to comment some things I saw on other reviews of 100 south. 1. Someone complained that the Arrabiata pasta was too spicy....really? Have you ever ordered anything "arrabiata" because it is supposed to be spicy. 2. Someone complained that their meat was too rare even though they ordered it medium rare....seriously? 3. Someone complained that their steak was burnt even though they ordered it well done because they don't like to "see pink." People need to start reviewing and editing their yelps before posting. You just sound stupid. You get what you order. On to my review.... To start we had the grilled calamari which were excellent, shrimp cocktail, and a caprese salad. I was in the mood for cheese so I ordered Au Gratin potatoes which were fabulous and baked macaroni and cheese...I definitely got my cheese fix! My friend had the bow-tie pasta in a white alfredo sauce with chicken. It was super flavorful and delicious. My other friend had the sea bass and it was also really good. Overall, we had a great experience! Good atmosphere; super cozy.

Food can be good, but the service at 100 South always feels amateurish. From the time you walk in, the restaurant feels like a throw back to the 1960s, and the servers' lack of sophistication amplifies the kitschy decor. Overall, a mediocre restaurant.

Went here last night with my husband...We spend a lot of time in downtown Elmhurst and I had been wanting to try 100 S. for a while now. I had a voucher for $25 off a $50 order. My husband order some chicken dish that was in broth with broccoli. I had the Parmesan crusted Mahi-Mahi. Please see below for reviews... Bread with herb butter...The bread was warm which was nice. The butter had a nice taste. I would give it 4/5 I ordered the french margarita...It was made very well and they did not skimp on the alcohol. you could also tell it wasn't from a mix. 5/5 We ordered the grilled calamari as an appetizer. It was tasty and had a little kick to it. The sauce they covered it in was good...4/5 My husband's chicken dish was so bland. I could tell from the look of it that it was too. there was just nothing to it. It literally looked like the threw some spices on a chicken breast and poured some broth over it. He said that he would have preferred the chicken I make him at home. It wasn't that it tasted bad its just why pay for a meal that you can make better yourself at home. 2.5/5 My Parmesan crusted Mahi-Mahi was OK. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't great. Again I feel like I could have made it better at home. It came with some kind of mango/avacado salsa on top that was pretty good. Honestly I think that tasted better that the Mahi-Mahi itself. It just didn't taste fresh to me. My dish came with a side of rice and it kind of tasted like the rice came out of a box, but I don't know for sure. 3/5 Our waiter was OK, again nothing special. He kind of seemed like he didn't want to be waiting on us, but he didn't do anything to offend us either. He just sort of seemed uninterested. 3/5 I would say that over all our experience was OK, not great. There are so many other good restaurants in that area, that my husband and I enjoy going to that I dont think we'll be back here. I did see that this place got a lot of good reviews so maybe we just chose the wrong dishes, but unfortunately we wont be back to find out.

The wife and I wanted to go out for a casual drink and decided to take advantage of a Yelp deal at 100 South. I've been there before and its "off and on" but I have to say the last couple of times I've been there they have definitely been on! We sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks and appetizers. Grilled calamari and baked clams were great...some of the best grilled calamari I've had. My wife had a chopped salad and I had my favorite, the wedge salad. Well done, good service even though they were one short behind the bar. Its certainly not Gibson's or Chop House but for Elmhurst its a classic place for steaks and drinks. Get there!

Good food, fair pricing, ample portions, nice atmosphere, parking was good, and service was good (albeit, a little wet behind the ears). I'd go back for sure. Recommended to anyone looking for a good, fairly priced dinner.

I took my wife here for a nice birthday dinner. It was a good time overall with great food. We used a $25 gift certificate from restaurants.com and paid the remainder with credit without an issue. We will most likely make a return trip at sometime, but not soon, as it isn't a cheap date. If the service and atmosphere were better, I would have given 4 stars. Food: Bread amazing, appetizers are ok, entrées are wonderful. The portions are HUGE!! The seasoned bread and butter you get when seated was great. We started with bruschetta and fried calamari. The bruschetta bread was very crisp, almost too much so for my liking, and the tomatoes were ice cold. My personal preference is when the bread is warm, sort of soft, and the tomatoes are room temp. The calamari really was lacking flavor in my opinion. We got a house salad and bowl of creamy chicken & rice next. The salad was very good, but a little warm. The soup was good, but a bit on the peppery side. For the entrees, we got a 16oz New York Strip (medium), and a 20oz Chop Chop Ribeye(med rare), each with cheesy au grautin potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes were amazing, VERY VERY good!! The broccoli was good, but a bit rare, still very firm. The steaks were very good, very juicy, cooked perfectly, sent from heaven I'd have to guess. Service: We got seated right away, and we were started with water and drinks immediately. It was a few minutes before we were able to put in our orders, but that is ok, they were training a new waiter, and I can sympathize, new guys gotta start somewhere. Seemed like the waiter had too many tables, as we waited quite a while for refills when our soda and water glasses were empty. Atmosphere: the restaurant is fairly small, and an awkward layout. The eating area is shaped like a Backwards J. As you walk in the the left, there is a long area, but not very wide. To the right is the bar, and in front of the bar there is a section that goes back a bit. We were at the tip of the J. The tables are VERY close together, and it was a bit annoying, because we almost felt as if we were sitting at a table with someone else. It would be much more comfortable for there to be more room between the tables, but I can understand the tightness given the small footprint of the place.

Was planning on going to The Standard next time I was in Elmhurst but smartly changed to the Chop House. Tied the whole thing into a downtown visit since they are open between lunch & dinner, your don't to have wait for the dinner crowds to pile in. Filet Mignon was outstanding as were the Fish & Chips with hushpups. Huge portions-nothing skipped. Server was outstanding actually placing hot & cold items separately. (Review of Cooper's Hawk to explain later) Excellent, professional service that is top notch. Steps away from Metra stop. Don't forgot to hit the Bleeding Heart Bakery a few doors down

new management- THANK YOU and All I gotta say is - Fish and Chips! Loooooove them! and the Key Lime Pie? Ah-mazing! - read below for more details: Back to the experience, they seat you and give you a basket of yummy bread- which for me is bad because carbs are my nemesis. None the less- de-lish. THEN my fish & Chips- yum; Hush puppies and all. Then we shared the Key Lime Pie, but honestly, it was all me. Mostly- we took the leftovers home. Our waitress was telling us how she has to watch the staff when she gets a slice for herself because everyone wants it! Which reminds me- the staff is really nice. When you first walk in the host/ hostess greats you with a welcoming smile and its sincere people, not that " only 4 more hours 'til I get home, hurry up and eat" smile. So that tell me one thing- they love working there. And that makes me happy, because I'm known to boycott places who treat their employees like dirt- eh-hem- WALMART & friends. FYI, The portions there are huge! you can easily break it up to a few meals. Totally worth the $$$ I'll be back and order a steak next time or just to have some cocktails at the bar.

Happened on 100 South after going to the Art Fair in Elmhurst. I was thinking it may be pricey, but after reviewing the menu I thought prices reasonable. Great Bread! Had the grilled Squid/Calamar as an app. Great! it was not rubbery at all. Kudo's to the chef. I opted for Clam Chowder and it was very good. Although it is a Chop House, the Cavatelli with shrimp sounded good. I pronounce this the Italian way= Ga-va-dill. Not cav-a tell-e. It is either meaade in house or purchased fresh as it was very fresh. Excellently prepared in an aioli sauce. My guest had the Skirt steak. She ordered it well (Her-not me) and it cam out very tender! She had a side of spinach and mushrooms. It was a very satisfying meal. Of course, extras were packaged for Fido. No way to think of dessert. They did look good! Above average service, OK on decor, all staff very personable and attentive. 1 note: if you do not like more than a little Garlic, be prepared to say something to the waiter. Everything did use garlic which I enjoyed immensely. Missed a five as I am stingy with those jewels! JohnnyChitown

I went here on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. They were not quite prepared for the dinner rush but after a slight wait at the table, we received great service and my filet was cooked to medium perfection. Prices were what I expected for anything with the name "chop house". I would say that I would return to try their pasta next and maybe some dessert if I have enough room.

Based on the good reviews, I went to dinner with a good friend after a lecture at Elmhurst College. This place is walking distance from the college. It has an authentic old school Italian restaurant feel to the place which was delightful! The food was excellent, I had a shrimp stuffed filet and my friend had Chicken Vesuvio both delicious. Service was terrific, just right.

The last time I ate at 100 South was years ago, so my mom and I were looking forward to checking it out under the new management. We got there with our group of four at ten til six and were seated right away. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I attempted to get the soup and house salad and substitute the wedge salad because the salads are the same menu price. But you can't. So I ordered them separately. They were both very good, the soup was New England clam chowder. My mom got Tilapia and it was alright. Our neighbor got a burger and seemed to really enjoy it. And my friend got the mac'n'cheese. She said it was ok. I sampled it and didn't really like it. It was fine, but could've used a bit more of a cheesy flavor. We got three desserts, the ice cream cake, the chocolate cake, and Grand Marnier creme broulee. The ice cream cake was only ice cream, but pretty good. The chocolate cake was good, but not really worthy of another visit. The creme broulee was yummy, and is in the fridge waiting for breakfast. All in all, we probably won't be back unless we have a coupon or someone who really wants to go there. Oh, and the restaurant.com coupons are cash only there... which is odd, because we've never run into that stipulation at any other restaurant.

Service was fabulous, attentive, and informed. Ambiance was cozy, family friendly, and had character. Food was delicious - warm bread with whipped herb butter (my husband had to hide from me because I was eating it on its own), oysters were fresh with gorgeous presentation, steaks were cooked perfectly and served in their own delicious juice, tiramisu was so moist and, again, presentation was out of this world. Coffee was strong and perfect with dessert. This is a new favorite for my husband and me. Glad we discovered it!

Good food, good service in a comfortable space. We stumbled into the place by accident the first time. (Were in Elmhurst for an event, got very hungry and walked into the first place we found.) We have been back several times since and never disappointed. Clever good food. Very attentive service. Reasonable prices.

Found this place by accident and was very pleased. We attended a performance of Macbeth about a block away and wanted some food close and fast. We went in with no information. My wife and I both had a pasta dish with bow tie pasta, steak (really tender chunks server said was fillet) asperagus, mushrooms and sauce. Large serving of excellent food. Good wine at reasonable prices. The space is broken up with room divider like constructions - makes it seem cozy. A friend with us had a fillet which came out a little too rare for her, but problem was fixed fast. Service was very attentive, but not overbearing. We will put this on our list of places to to back to.

So disappointing... This used to be a great steakhouse. The servings were huge and the service was impeccable. I loved having an outstanding chop house nearby where I could take friends or family for special occasions. 100 South used to focus on steak and seafood and that's pretty much it. They were pricey, but that attracted professional, attentive servers who earned their fat tips. Alas, the new management has implemented a new menu that left me cold. They've added sandwiches, pasta, burgers, multiple salads and variations on all of their proteins. The portions are smaller than in the past (not necessarily a bad thing), and the prices have dropped significantly. Unfortunately, they've lost sight of what made 100 South a success. The food quality has decreased significantly, although I'm not sure if that's because of a lack of preparation expertise or a concerted decision to cut costs by purchasing lesser-quality foodstuffs. The staff, as a result, is no longer as sensitive to their customers' needs. Servers used to be extremely attentive, and the hosts would never have sat four tables within ten feet of a drafty door on a cold winter night when they are dozens of other available tables throughout the restaurant. I understand the management's decision to diversify their menu to attract a wider clientele, especially during a recession. However, I don't have to agree with it. There are other locations in Elmhurst that offer a similar menu, with better quality food and better service. And I don't mind jumping in the car to get a true steakhouse experience. Unfortunately, I won't be back.

Nice ambiance, but pricing is way high for a steakhouse in the burbs. Stick to a downtown experience.

This was our first time dining at 100 South and it's likely to be the last. While it was not all around terrible, it just didn't meet our dining standards. Atmosphere: A bit odd. Some updating is needed. The curtains are too heavy and the lighting is unpleasant. Additionally, there is just an odd stale smell in the bar area when you walk in; not really desirable. Also, it seemed empty when you walk in (never a good feeling) because everyone is seated in the back. Food: The food was okay. We had fried calamari and house salads. They were good. The bread was served warm with an herb butter which was also good. The pastas were served on such large platters that it made you wonder if they were trying to clean out the kitchen. The Arribiata was a bit spicy (yes, it should be spicy but it was a bit much for the standard diner and I do like Arribiata sauce). My husband had the blackened chicken with pasta. It had a good white sauce but the celery was pretty chunky which was weird. The dessert was just sad. We ordered carrot cake (my husband's obsession) and we had to send it back. It tasted horribly of freezer burn and we just couldn't eat it. Very disappointing. Service: The service was good. The waitress refilled my glass multiple times and packed up our to-go boxes. I would say that the service was the high point for the establishment. Next time we will likely try the Other Italian establishment across the street. It just wasn't good enough to return.

First, I must preface this review with the fact that I typically do not write reviews. However, my wife and my experience at 100 South was so terrible that I could not wait to compile my first Yelp review. We decided on 100 South after Cafe Amano, our reason for visiting Elmhurst, was closed due to a power outage resulting from the prior evenings storms. The restaurant looked good enough with limited outdoor seating. Since it was a gorgeous evening, my wife and I decided to put our names in for the outside patio. At no time were we told that the kitchen was backed up due to the previous evenings storms. After waiting at the bar for more than 90-minutes, during which time no one came to check on us, we were finally told that a table was available outside. When seated, we realized that several tables were open - they had delayed seating people to give the kitchen a chance to catch up with prior orders (meanwhile there were no more than 15-people eating so not sure the reason for the back-up). Once seated, we waited for nearly 15-minutes before a server came to take our order. Prior to having someone actually check on us, we overhead nearly every table complaining about the quality of the food, or the fact that they had been seated for more than an hour without receiving any of their order. We would have left had it not been nearly 10:00pm (we arrived at 7:30pm). After another 20-minutes, our food finally arrived. The order was incorrect and our meals (Fillet, and Chicken Vesuvio) both undercooked. They recooked the food and reserved; however, the food was still undercooked and over salted. Our experience was an absolute joke; the staff was clueless and rude and the food absolutely terrible. Perhaps our experience was due to the prior power outage. However, if you cannot provide patrons an enjoyable experience then don't bother opening in the first place. At the very least, communicate with your patrons to let them know that they will be wasting away their life for a horrible meal.

The filet melted in our mouths. The baked potato was perfectly cooked and the broccoli was al dente as it should be. We tried two soups, the cream of Portobello mushroom and the jambalaya, and both were wonderful. We enjoyed the warm bread with garlic herb butter. The key lime pie was very tasty. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. In fact, all that was missing was that white cloth tablecloth. Ours was covered with white paper and that was the only disappointment the whole night. I'd go back in a heartbeat and have recommended 100 South Chop House to several friends.

I have been going here for several years. I have been here for lunch as well. I remember when Johnny Rome used to play there on the weekends, and the Sinatra room. I was there recently and once again had a great lunch. Service is always attentive and pleasant. I will be back again soon.

I was looking at some other reviews on here, and always I go to the negative first to see what the complaints are. I have no idea what people are complaining about. The few I read were about flavorless food, and poor service with a 1/2 hour wait between courses being served. I say hogwash. Have eaten here a half dozen times, and I have never had bad service, and actually pretty good food for the price. Without drinks, you can do a pretty decent 2 person meal for under $35. And you don't get the quality/flavor/presentation that you would in a greek run family/pancake restaurant, and with pretty good sized portions to boot. Yes, Wildfire is a step above, and 100 South is certainly not Gibsons or Mortons, but the food here is quite good for the price. I was recently invited to a dinner in a friends home, and take out was served from 100 South. The filet and NY Strip or EXCELLENT, the baked potato huge, and too much broccoli was sent along with our meal. I honestly think this place is a bargain consideirng the food is above average, its in the heart of downtown Elmhurst, and is reasonably priced for what you get.

We had not been to 100 South in a while and were celebrating my husband's and best friends birthdays and all wanted steak. We made a reservation and were seated right away. They brought us some nice warm bread w/ delicious herb butter. Our waitress was Tiffany and she was awesome! We already looked at the menu online and there is a lot to choose from including steaks, chicken, burgers, ribs, salads, etc. They also had some really nice specials. I had the filet with blue cheese and it came w/ the most wonderful salad. We had the red onion dressing which was so yummy! The salad and the broccoli that came w/ the dish were very fresh and good. The filet was perfectly cooked, really the best steak I have had in a very, very long time. I also ordered a side of potatoes w/ blue cheese which also had onions and a little bacon in it and were absolutely amazing! My husband is very fussy about steak, he ordered the New York strip and he (I am not making this up) just said "sensational" when I asked him to describe it. This is not like him. Our friends also loved their meals. Tiffany was the perfect server, great suggestions and really fun. We ended the meal with the chocolate cake which was huge and so good, not too sweet, very moist and tasty. Overall a great meal and we will be back. Oh and we had a Linked In offer which saved us some $$ on our dinners which we thought were fairly priced to begin with. If you haven't been to 100 South lately, go give it a try, you'll be happy you did.

Won't be back. The food was just okay but pricey. The service was good; waiter was attentive. The ambiance is ridiculous. The tables are so close together you can't help but overhear the conversations of the people next to you. The lighting is bright and the noise level is high. I had high hopes knowing it was under new management, but unfortunately this place still has issues. The Standard on Schiller is much better.

Dined here for lunch one day with a few coworkers. The service was horrible, the food was meh, and we didnt get any refills on our beverages. The waitress took our order, brought our food, and that was it. Never asked how we were doing, never checked to see if we needed more drinks, NOTHING.

I must say...this is my first "yelp" and I regret that it is a negative critique. My wife and I had been regular customers at this restaurant since we ate here the night I proposed to her several years ago. As a result, I write this review with a very heavy heart. I hope this fair and balanced review of our most recent experience will help in your decision making... GOOD 1. Ambiance 2. Reservation was honored, and table was on time 3. The onion loaf appetizer DISAPPOINTING 1. SERVICE 2. Overall Menu Options 3. Overall Experience for the price Reasoning: The ambiance has maintained a wonderful appeal throughout the time we had dined at this restaurant. Despite a crowd in the reception area, we were sat when we arrived right on time for our reservation. The onion loaf appetizer served on BBQ sauce and chopped salad were also good. Regretfully, the service fell very short of the goal line. Do not ask for substitutions (for the incredibly bland broccoli), as they are not permitted. The previous menu had all "al a carte" items which allowed you to create a unique dining experience, and with the removal of this, along with the lack of flexibility to change things on the menu, sets the stage for a dissapointing experience. In addition, our coupon was not accepted at the time of check. This is where the experience really fell short, as the reason was because it was a holiday (even though the holiday was not until Monday). I could have been more understanding of this if the server had said "It is a holiday weekend and we were told not to accept these; but, let me see what I can do" (due to the fact that I am writing this, this did not happern). The other "reason" they did not accept the coupon was due to "entertainment." So if someone is performing on weekends (even if you are sitting on the complete opposite side of the restuarant where you can't see the entertainment), this will amount to not being valid for those weekends. Outside of the good appetizer, the food was very "average" this experience. Lastly, for a chophouse, the menu had only four (4) or five (5) steaks (NY Strip, Filet, Delmonico, Rib Eye, maybe one more). There used to be a menu item with three petite filets with three different toppings which was a nice way to "expand" the focal point of the chophouse menu; but this was not available during this visit. In addition the server could not articulate the benefits of each steak option, all she could offer is, "Yea, that's good." Given all of the above, I hate to say this; but due to extremely poor service and average food, my wife and I will not be returning to this restaurant. If we plan to pay $100+ for a meal for two, I would expect the experience to be excellent, and we simply did not see any part our experience that was "excellent."

We wanted to go for a nice dinner out and thought this would be a great place to go! The decor is quite romantic and cozy, and the hostess was friendly. Unfortunately the service was really slow for 3 tables with other people dining. Our waitress never came back to ask how our food was, and the "water boy" kept coming around to our table, yet didn't fill our glasses or even pick up our appetizer plates after we were done with them. On the positive side ... the complementary bread was great and their burgers are quite large! Perhaps this was an "off-day" for a Tuesday so I'm sure we will be going back to try it again ... just maybe not for quite some time.

What a great find. This place appears to be a fancy/pricey steakhouse from the outside, but actually is quite the casual neighborhood joint. When we were there, a majority of patrons were in blue jeans, and there was a family party with young kids in the back room. The food and service are both very good. Our waiter was extremely attentive without being overbearing. It's also a good value. You can splurge on the namesake chops, or just get an excellent burger with a side of mac & cheese at an excellent price.

We used to like this restaurant. We went recently and spent $50 on our meal so we could use our $25 off restaurant.com coupon. They ripped us off and we somehow ended up paying $45. This was AFTER the waitress brought the wrong meal, didn't apologize and then tried to tell us we hadn't spent $50. Apparently adding 2 entrees and a coke is very hard. She then gave us a hard time about using the coupon and added a ridiculous gratuity. I would NEVER go back there again. The manager couldn't be more hands-off and act like he hates his customers.

beyond wonderful...still drooling, escargot-perfect, clam chowder-yyyyummm with a hint of maple, bacon and giant chunks of clam, rack of lamb superb, shrimp stuffed filet very small... but yummy! only criticism is the bruschetta...no balsamic??? otherwise one of the best meals i've ever had. the escargot i could have eaten 4 or 5 servings! noelle {?} lovey lady, knows the menu very well oh! and the washroom has a skinny mirror!

Thursday nights at the Chophouse = a great menu of select dishes for $9.95 until 6pm. I know, I know, early bird special but really I can't pass up trying a place out for such a great price! The meals come with a soup or salad, entrée choice with choice of starch and vegetable. I had an 8oz. sirloin steak and it was unbelievably yum. The gals in our group also enjoyed their meals of porkchops and the coconut chicken. The atmosphere here is great for a dinner with the girls but it definitely has the date-night allure too. Downside? When we got our bills, the house wine was almost as much as the dinner special, coming in at $7 a glass. As a city-girl I am used to the mark-up for a glass of wine but for Elmhurst, come on now.

Since last summer when the chop house was under new ownership. I have not had a bad meal there. The food is delicious and the portions are more than generous. We have brought many other people there with us at many different times. Whenever someone comes in from out of town this is the first place we take them to. Love it! Love it! loveit!

Dinner started off all right. The service was good, not overbearing at all and the menu has a good selection of all things meaty. Things went downhill from there. My wife ordered a burger medium rare, and it came barely cooked. She ate the edges, and she isn't picky about eating rare burgers. This thing was cold and bloody in the middle. I gobbled up my New York Strip, headed home, and proceeded to spend the entire night in the bathroom with food poisoning.

this is my 3rd or 4th time i have eaten at 100 S. Chop over the last few years, and was not crazy about it in the past, but unfortunately the best restaurant in Elmhurst, (Francesca Amici) was closed for the evening, and as we had guests in from out of town, we went to 100 South. First of all the place was maybe 10% full and the service and food were terrible. It took 30 minutes to get our appetizers, then another 20-30 minutes to get our salads, and then another 20-30 minutes to get our meal (which was lukewarm) and the prime-rib was very fatty. I cannot live without dessert, but did not want to wait another 30 minutes, so went and got a GREAT hot fudge Sunday next door. I would recommend this to no one, the Cosmo's were the only thing worth the one star. I guess this place has some "connections" that keep it open???????

I just went to 100 South this past Sunday for November Birthday's with my boyfriends family. It was very quiet and not busy at all, I guess that's what happens when you eat out on a Sunday at 5:30pm. The meal over all was good. We didn't do apps we just all had a meal. I had the 2 4oz. filet mignons with blue cheese. While I would have liked the steak to be a little hotter it tasted awesome! Everyone was pleased with their meals. They don't have a kids meal but was very happy to make chicken tenders for one of the children with us, and he said they were the best! The service was good and after reading some of these reviews was kind of sad to find out we missed out on the bread and garlic...maybe next time! My boyfriend and I will be returning for dinner again with friends very soon.

We went for dinner at 7 on a Friday--surprisingly, it wasn't busy at all (recession maybe?). But the food--WOW! So good. I got the twin 4 oz filet mignons while my husband got the chop chop ribeye, and we got sides of the garlic mashed potatoes and the baked macaroni and cheese. Both of the steaks were just excellent--the 4 oz filets looked really tiny on my plate compared to my husband's huge steak, but they were enough to make me stuffed, while my husband took half of his home. The baked mac and cheese was some of the best I've had, while unfortunately the potatoes were only ok, and lukewarm at that (they are what is keeping this from being a 5-star review). It's a great place for a special occasion or a romantic night out!

I have eaten her several times and was concerned about the cigar bar the first time. As someone who is super sensitive to smoke, you can not smell the cigars while you are eating. Not sure if the cigar bar is still there since the smoking ban. Either way the steaks are cooked to perfection, and the sides are huge. You have to try the mac and cheese, and save room for the chocolate cake or take it home you won't be sorry. Great steakhouse without having to go to Chicago

The only good part of the evening was sitting outside on a nice summer night. We went there on a Saturday night at 9pm after eating somewhere else. We wanted to have a few drinks outside. Although I saw an open table, we were told it was a 15 minute wait. Not a very good selection of wine by the glass, I think it was only 6, the rest were by the bottle. We waited at the bar. When we finally got outside, no one came by for almost 15 minutes. We finally had to find someone.

Had lunch with a group of people yesterday at this restaurant. Had never been there before, had heard good things, and was anxious to try it. The restaurant was pretty much empty, but service was slow. The food was good, the waiter was pleasant, and the portions were huge on the Chicken Pesto Panini. I asked to have the leftovers wrapped to take with me, and it wasn't until I was back at work that I found that half of my lunch was missing. The steak fries, which were delicious, were missing. When I called to let them know, it seems that they had fallen on the floor. So, instead of giving me fresh fries, nothing was done or said. I was told that the next time I was there I would get "free fries". Other people at my table had ordered the unlimited soup and salad and were expecting breadsticks that never appeared. When the waiter was asked about it, he said they were "out of them" and offered to bring more bread. Extremely disappointing first experience.

There seems to be a growing trend of chain steakhouses going up over the suburbs. 100 south is the opposite, a local corner 50's chophouse that doesn't rush it's service (which people may find annoying) and puts out BIG food. The veal chop is by far the best item on that menu....where all th other steaks are great, teh veal is exceptional. Escarole beans and sausage is a great starter, the thinly sliced eggplant appetizer is fantastic. The restaurant is perfect because it can be a good lunch location, quite romantic dinner, or loud Sinatra affair at the bar. I will always make time to go over to 100 South whenever I'm in town. Don't forget the little Swanky bar called Swank in teh back for great Martini's.

The "best" bone in rib-eye steak I have ever had. It's been consistent for many years. I prefer the horseradish crust. I'll put it up against any steak any where. The Service can be slow when they are busy, when I go, I'm not in a hurry. The decor is very nice. Lets face it though, it's the food I love. I'm not a big fan of egg plant, but they have this eggplant appetizer that is so good and I always order it. actually, it's one of my favorite dishes ever. They also have this bow-tie pasta dish with grilled chicken and asparagus that is awesome. The sea bass is delicious. I also love the fresh roasted garlic that comes out with the bread. Don't forget to try the super rich and decadent Mac and Cheese. There is a pretty good wine list too. I could gain ten pounds in one sitting if I let myself.....

I don't usually go to steakhouses because I'm not a meateater and I always find their fish entrees to be average. So unless it's someone else's choice, we will usually just head to Wildfire if my husband has a taste for a steak. So my time spent at this close by restaurant is generally having a drink at the bar. We went last night, and I was pleasantly surprised with the experience! I had their special, a cedar-planked salmon with garlic mashed potatoes, and it was realy good, although my stomach felt like it would explode! My husband thought his steak was absolutely delicious, and the martinis were tasty as well. If you go, make sure to get Dusty as your server; he used to work at the Starbucks in town and would always have my coffee waiting for me before I walked in; now he's at 100 South, and his service is attentive and top notch! Cool atmosphere, Sinatra music playing in the background, lots of cool celebrity pics around, and I particularly like their new dining area, which features a subdued decor and comfy booths.
