Great food and the cocktails are very different from your typical bar scene! Little bit on the higher end of price for drinks but you for sure get your money's worth! (Try the Jessie Julip) Pretty new place, definitely worth a second look!

Feels like a hotel bar/lounge or a long forgotten country club that's trying to stay with the times. After arriving we decided not to eat and only have a glass of wine. They seem to use overpowering cleaning products and it made us not want eat anything. The service was also exceptionally slow especially given that only 2 other tables where seated.

My wife and I tried Stur late this afternoon for the first time. The trout was first rate, the shepherd's pie was delicious, and the bartender Diana whipped up a first rate Brandy Alexander and Pimm's Cup. Really enjoyed ourselves. We will be back.

I have to say I was very shocked and disappointed. When I attended a tasting to determine the menu for a large party, the food was excellent - large, succulent shrimp in the pasta, unique salad in a martini glass, all food nicely plated. When it came time for the party, it was different food! The salad was missing ingredients and didn't have much flavor (also served on a plate, not the glass like in the tasting), but the biggest disappointment was the shrimp pasta. They used salad shrimp (the round ones the size of a quarter) and the noodles were not fully cooked. And who ever heard of beef filets with gristle? (That is not a filet cut if there's gristle) I felt deceived and cheated. They presented tasty and creative food at the tasting and provided a completely different experience for the party. If you must try it out, stick to the drinks. They do those well.

Great drinks, wine, and food! Chicken wings, stuffed shrooms, petite, hamburger, trout, and steak/feta flatbread were fantastic!!!

Love the ambiance....not many places around like this. Live music a few times a week to boot - small acoustic duos. Drinks are delish! A true mixology bar...not just someone slinging a drink. The Stur signature drink is amazing.. Also, the Black Cherry drink with the bourbon was great! Our entrees have always been spot on & even great dessert. Let's keep it local people, instead of the big chain restaurants...

We stopped by this restaurant on a Saturday about a month after it had opened. We had reservations, though they weren't needed. Bottom line: this is a great cocktail lounge, good food & live music, service needs some help. Pros: Drinks: best Margarita I have ever had. Food: cheese/meat platter was good to start us off, with a variety of bread to accompany that was fresh. We ordered a burger and trout. Burger was cooked exactly as requested (medium rare) and came with chips. Trout was good...only one flaw--needed another plate to separate the two fillets since they were skin-on. Also, almond butter sauce was on skin side...kind of missed out on the flavor. We had dessert too, the chocolate truffle and white chocolate mousse. Yum! Music: live vocalist with guitar playing some country, some rock. Great, loud enough to enjoy, but not so loud that you couldn't enjoy conversation. Meh: View: gas station. They should adjust the window treatments to detract from the neon blue motomart which glares into the restaurant in the evening. Service: anxious, inexperienced and had to read cards to get through the menu. Also slow to remove dirty plates and bring the check. Ambience: not as trendy as I would have hoped. Art reminded me of old time pottery. Broken glass entrance as well, surely to be fixed soon. I will go back, likely, but this doesn't compete in my mind with St Louis. We live in Belleville, so I could invest the same time/money for a better product if I really wanted to go out by going a different direction. Still, I love supporting local.

My wife and I had dinner here about 2 months ago. It gets its one star solely from its signature cocktail, a delicious cucumber based drink. The rest of our experience here was pretty awful. We tried the chicken wings appetizer and thought they had a very odd taste. We left most of them uneaten. For dinner, we tried the shepherd's pie. This is a dish we have enjoyed at numerous places, including English pubs. It was really disappointing! First, it was not lamb (as the name implies) but hamburger. OK, that is a substitution often made and can still produce a delicious dish. but not here! The meat tasted completely unseasoned. There were some carrots and peas in it, but they were undercooked and tasted like they had simply used a bag of frozen vegetables and not cooked them very long. No trace of onion. The mashed potatoes on top were watery, with no trace of a butter or cream taste. It was a truly terrible rendition of a classic dish and they charged $18 for it! After finishing our meal, we finally got our check (we were the only table with customers). After a long time the waiter returned and said their computer was down and they couldn't process my credit card. We were told we would have to wait for a guy to come over from St. Louis to fix the computer! Fortunately, I had enough cash with me to pay for the meal, but they said they could not take cash, we would just have to wait for the guy from St. Louis! You might think that a new place trying to get established would waive the bill or at least offer us a free drink while we waited. But no, there was no accomodation. We were just supposed to sit there and wait. Unbelievable. I kept demanding that they take my cash and they finally did and we left. Unless you are in the mood for a cucumber cocktail, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to eat.

Don't come here unless you like paying high dollar for sub-par food and overpriced drinks!

Heard about Stur from a couple friends of mine who told me I should try out the new place taking up old Neruda. At first I was quite hesitant with all other places after Neruda having just not given the old space justice. Walked in the and the place was beautifully re-done. Stainless steal bar (very similar to the one at Social if you've been there) and just overall very nice. Unfortunately that was the highlight of the evening. The host that sat my wife and I down, knew nothing about the restaurant/when they opened, ownership and just seemed very misinformed. The reason I say that, is later we find out that he is our server for the evening. After we sat down he returned with a bottle of water for our table and asked if we would like to try one of the signature cocktails, or a beer. After a long and I mean long list of drinks they were out of, we decided to just order a bottle of wine. We jokingly asked if they were out of that wine as well considering the list of drinks they were out of. And he said that they didn't inform him of it earlier so they "should" have it. To our dismay he returned and sure enough they were out. We ordered a different bottle and that came out fine. The only problem is he just left it on our table. I guess they don't pour wine for you here. Brace yourselves because that was just the beginning. When it came time for ordering our dinner, surprise they were out of items as we'll not as many as the drink list, but about a quarter of the things on the menu. We asked about the cheese plate and our server again had little to say other than what the menu read. No idea of what cheeses came with it. We ordered our food and it ended up coming out quite quickly so we were impressed. The only problem was the trout my wife ordered was cold in the middle, a little ways from frozen. We sent it back and she just ate off of my plate. At the end of the meal we asked about management and if we could speak with them. After which they sent one of the bartenders to come and speak with us. Turns out he wasn't really a manager and the owner who I was told was there, but in the back was too busy to come out and speak with us, so she sent him. Overall I would never recommend this place to anyone. I'm surprised they're still open, considering there was only one other table there. Service was bad, cold food and out of almost everything and no management. How do you expect a place to succeed if you're not willing to take the time to come speak to some customers because you're "busy." By no means is this comparable to other places in town like Cleveland Heath, or Chop House. Save your money and go somewhere else

Great place! So glad to have this type of dining on the Illinois side. If you are a cocktail aficionado, then this is the place for you. Also a small but ever changing menu keeps it fresh and exciting. Our waiter was Jordan and he was awesome! Go here planning to make it an experience and not an eat and run type of place. The ambience is relaxed yet a touch swanky with a great bar for before and/or after dinner drinks. Enjoy!!!!

Another great meal this week, they have menu updates coming soon and I can't wait to see what else the chef comes up with. The signature cocktails alone are worth stopping by. And the guys playing in the bar are great.

First the good news-the food is excellent. I have dined at Stur three times, and from the burger, to the salad, the seafood to the NY strip, the food was perfect. Second, the 'signature cocktails' I can live without. I like a traditonal manhatten, not one with 'fireball' added to it. Leave the classics alone. Okay, now point three. Really amateurish service. These young folks look untrained and uninformed. Last night ours had a hard time opening a bottle wine. Each waiter, every time acted as if we were his first table as a waiter. A lot of pointless small talk and chatter-to the point of annoying. Train these folks! It is so crucial to your success! Fourth, you have got the get the word out about being open and ready for business. We left last night, a Saturday, at 740pm, and there were only two patrons in the place. And, even though the place was empty, no chef visiting the customers, no owner/manager extending a greeting. There was a lot of standing around and looking at cell phones. Bad vibe all the way around. Final points, the musician was a bit too loud for an empty restaurant and the strange and way too bright lights near the musician were really distracting. You have a nice enough place you just need to really work as hard on your staff and the overall dining experience (as you clearly have on the food) to get people to come, to have a great time, tell their friends, and come back over and over again.

First rate bar for sure. The drinks, atmosphere and the bar staff are fantastic. The dining room however really needs some help, primarily from the service side. After moving from the bar to our table, we sat for at least 10 minutes before someone came to our table. From what I saw, it took a bartender to go back in the kitchen to get someone. The waiter who took care of us clearly knew we were there as he was serving a table near us. They were out of many of the items on the menu, and even had to hard boil an egg for the salad. I ended up with the special, a bacon wrapped filet which was good, but under cooked. All of the food that arrived was on the cold side for all of us. No doubt due to the inattention of our waiter. My asparagus was overcooked and the pomme frittes were similar to canned potato sticks. Adequate, not the best to be sure. Also the owner was out of town on vacation, which seemed bad timing considering that they opened just recently and there was a review in the paper a week ago. There is definitely a staff management issue and clearly there is at the very least not somebody there who can handle the business when the boss is away. I would definitely go back for the bar, and would try the dining once more to see if we just hit a bad night.
