I happened upon this place by happenstance, but before making my final decision, I read the other reviews on yelp and they were very good overall .... And I love BBQi ended up choosing the burnt ends and , at the recommendation of an employee got mac n cheese and baked beans for my sides I always hold my breath when I order brisket/ burnt ends because I have had my share of fatty meat over the years The wait staff was very pleasant and I received my meal in about 10 minutes.... Which gave me time to relax before my meal came The burnt ends had great flavor and had a minimal of fat... They were the best that I have had in a long time Now, for the sides.... The baked beans tasted to me like they came right from a can and were doctored up a bit to make them " theirs". They were nothing to write home about The Mac and cheese were ok but again, nothing great.... Pretty common A criticism I have of many BBQ restaurants is that they churn out good BBQ but serve it with store bought sides, and I felt this was the case here Overall the BBQ was very good, the portions were decent, the atmosphere was good, and the wait staff was friendly.... They need to step it up sides that accompany the entree Yes, I would come back Ps. They had a candied bacon-pecan cheesecake with a bourbon sauce that sounded wonderful... Maybe next time!

Sitting here eating lunch as I write this. Good atmosphere, Blues music, but unfortunately the food does not measure up to the ambience... Ordered Pulled Pork sandwich with side of cole slaw, which was one of the choices that came with the sandwich. Asked the manager on duty if the slaw was good and he gave that look, nod of approval as if it was what attracted people here... Add some rice vinegar, dill seed and other ingredients to make it come alive. Food came out, slaw look amazing, but greatly underwhelmed.. Void of taste.. Do they not sample taste their food before serving unsuspecting customers? The pork was a bit on the dry side and also lacking flavor. Added the hot and spicy sauce to it, but added little to the experience. Roll was mediocre too. If you want amazing BBQ, I highly recommend Dierberg's to go.. Manager was kind to inquire how everything was, which is good.. Might be back?

On the one hand, I'm no BBQ expert. On the other hand, according to my "Carnivorous Carnival" list, I've sampled 28 meat-type places in recent years, therefore am not a complete novice. Doc's was surprisingly good. Seemed like 1/4" thick slices of beef brisket and turkey breast. I should have gotten out my Daytimer ruler, but I didn't. Perhaps the total experience doesn't feel as sophisticated as you'd find at some places, but the smoked meat flavor is very good, as are the sauces. The sides I had - seasoned fries and corn casserole - were excellent (I had skipped lunch, and only had oatmeal for breakfast, so maybe my taste buds were exceptionally generous). It's a soft-drinks-only kind of place, which is fine, since no temptation of craft beer kept my bill reasonable.

Love this place. They have great food. Tried their special pulled pork tacos and they were "melt in your mouth" delicious. Had several items in the taco including corn casserole, a delicious variety of flavors. Also, decent pricing. Will be back soon.

I. Love. This. Place. First off, the service was top notch. Now let's move onto the food. We got the slider trio with sweet potato fries for only $7.95 and a half rib entree with Mac and cheese and salad. Slider trio: The pulled pork slider melted in my mouth and the coleslaw did not over power the taste of the pulled pork (as some do). Moreover, the pulled pork slider didn't need any extra sauce--it was plenty tasty all on its own. The sweet potato fries were standard and complemented the meal quite nicely. Half ribs: The ribs were fall off the bone delicious, and there was so much meat on each rib. I didn't try the Mac and cheese or salad, but I was told that they were absolutely delectable.

We decided to check this place out on a recent Saturday night at around 8:30. They had two specials, a 20oz pork steak and burnt ends. I opted for the burnt ends while my girlfriend went for the pork steak. Given that they were closing in 30 minutes, they were out of most of the sides I wanted to try. However, Doc's did not disappoint. The burnt ends melted in my mouth like a sweet glorious stick of butter. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the French fries were seasoned and hot right out of the fryer. The Carolina Mustard sauce was just enough tang and sweet combined to add a little flavor to the meat even though you don't need it. In addition, they have excellent BREWED iced tea. The atmosphere is appropriate as they have blues music playing in the background. Not just any blues music, but good blues music. I think this is an absolute requirement when eating BBQ. The staff really rounds this place out. They are super friendly and attentive. I will most definitely be back.

This place is delicious!!! Super friendly staff that were attentive as well as nice. I had the turkey platter with corn casserole and baked beans. The turkey was juicy, the corn and beans were awesome as well. Husband had the pulled pork sandwich with Mac & cheese which he loved as well. The owner came out and chatted with us to make sure the meal was good. Couldn't have asked for a better visit. We will most definitely be returning!

Food was delicious. Had pulled pork, sweet potato fries, Mac and cheese and corn casserole. I am from KC and their sides are better than all the places I have eaten at their except for Brobeck's ham salad. My wife's had the burnt end and they were perfect. They are a little slow at cleaning up the tables which is why the 4 stars.

If you're in the mood for BBQ nachos, this is the place to come to. Generous portion, pork is decent and they use a good white queso. A few complaints: they offer Spare Ribs: a cheap, relatively meatless bone-dense cut that you will not find at a typical BBQ place. Brisket was tender, though lacked the requisite smokiness. Three slices of brisket and three spare ribs (plus two sides) for $13+ with tax is asking a bit much. Layout is also a bit odd and a little cramped. Their payment system (Square) is pretty neat. Diet Dr Pepper is a plus. I would like to see the place succeed, so a few suggestions: Relocate the counter to/near the entrance, if possible, or put a sign at the entrance for order navigation. Acquire a different cut of ribs or drop them all together. Use a different bean base for your chili and baked beans. Add some brown sugar to the beans. Season the potato salad with the dry rub (good stuff) or ranch seasoning. Texas Toast would be nice.

You order at the counter from an overhead menu board, a server will bring your order to your table. I would consider the meat as average to a bit above. The sides are OK, nothing memorable. The staff are friendly enough. Three sauces are available. There is no beer available. That's a bit unusual for a BBQ joint. I would consider the portions as lunch sized. That works if you aren't too hungry.

It had been a while since I visited Doc's and am very happy I returned. The brisket is exceptional for restaurant BBQ (I regularly judge competitions). Burnt ends are also very good when they have them. Best BBQ in STL area in my opinion.

This is great place! Excellent food. Large servings, and so well-prepared. I love the pulled pork, and there is a good variety of sides. There can be a line at lunch and dinner, and you can't save tables, but the line moves wuickly. Well worth the wait!

This truly is Woo. It's also pretty Hoo. As yelp says it's as good as it gets. They supply you with many different varieties of sauce to smother your meats with. The potato salad is also pretty killer if you have a chance to try it. I love this place. It is a bit off putting to tip your waiter before you eat, but whatever, the food is pretty great and I can support some odd practices of a local upstart business.

My husband and I are a always looking for good BBQ (he is a certified BBQ judge) we found excellent food here! I orders the burnt ends, corn casserole, and sweet potato fries. My husband ordered the pulled pork, baked beans, and creamy coleslaw. Everything was very yummy. One of my biggest complaints when we go to BBQ joints is that often the meat is good or even great but the sides seriously lack in flavor. This was not the case at Doc's the sides here were very well done standard sides. The sauces were all very tastey. They use Blues Hog BBQ sauce as part of their personal recipes which my hubby and I enjoyed as this is the only sauce we use at home. We ended up trying a piece of the pecan pie made by Doc's wife, let me just say I like pecan pie it is ok but the pecan pie at Doc's is Amazing! I often feel that pecan pie is too sweet. This wonderful pie was just sweet enough you can actually taste the pecans and the crust is light and flaky. The service was great. Our foodcame out quite quickly. The young ladies bringing our food and bussing tables were very friendly and helpful. We will certainly be back when we are in town!

Gave Doc's a try for lunch today. I'd been reading the reviews and looked forward to the experience. I chose the Burnt Ends special because I like burnt ends and the placard indicated they'd be the caramelized morsels I was looking for. After a moderate wait the meal was delivered. The portion size was adequate but is was mainly little cubes of brisket. No caramelized chewy chunks as I was hoping for. They were ok but certainly nothing to rave over. The sides were mac and cheese and baked beans. Again nothing that would entice me to choose them again. Might give the place one more shot and try a sandwich at a later date but I can't say I'd beat down a path to get back there soon.

I went here today, and ordered the pork nachos. When the server brought them out, they looked delicious. But I was less than satisfied after taking a few bites. The pork, queso, and chili was all cold. Not like it had been in the refrigerator cold, but like it had been sitting out in a slightly-cooler-than-room-temperature room for a while. None of this tasted bad by any means. The temperature just ruined it for me. I feel like it would have been fantastic if it were hot. Only other thing to mention is that the jalapeños were pickled, not fresh. Would have liked to have seen some fresh jalapeños on there. I will be going back to try it again. Hoping this is just a rough first experience.

Our family loves that place. Food is fabulous. The servers are eager to serve. Kitchen serves up incredible brisket, ribs, pulled pork and sides. Downside: order at a counter. No beer. Dining room isn't very big. Kids friendly

Great BBQ! Some places to good meat, and everything else is meh. Some places do good everything else, and the meat is meh. This place is the whole package: great meat, great sauce, great sides. Can't complain about anything. I was particularly impressed with the brisket.

I've had good barbeque, and I've had bad barbeque, but this place takes the cake! I have never had a more flavorful, juicy burger than at Doc's Smokehouse. The ribs are to die for, and the staff is always friendly and quick to get you served. I only wish they did take-out, so that I could eat here more! I don't always have time to sit down for a meal, but when I do, it's so worth it to come here.

Have been here a few times and quite like the food ! Love the sausage and they have great salads. The wait can sometimes be a bit long but worth it.

Had the Doc's Signature Sandwich and the Corn Casserole; both were great. The brisket was well cooked and had a lot of flavor. I liked all the sauces on the table so just kept switching it up every few bites. The portions aren't huge, but they're appropriate for the price and a normal meal. This is not one of those "eat the full meal and ruin your day" type of restaurant portions. The girls working the register were both very nice and helpful.
This place was alright. Staff was friendly. Place was clean. However, the food...eh. I ordered the St. Louis style ribs. They were REALLY fatty. Fries were good and ceasar salad was decent. Just disappointed in the ribs. Was hoping for a bbq place to have good ribs. But everything else seems great so I'll try something else next time. So if you go here, don't get the ribs but I hear the beef brisket is wonderful!

Eat here! You won't regret great BBQ! The brisket and pulled pork are fantastic and the sides are delicious. A must!

I'm a brisket fan...I want it sliced, smokey, with a visible smoke ring, caramelized edge, not too dry, not too wet. At Doc's, they hit on the sliced, but nothing else. There was nothing, to include the flavor, that indicated this brisket was smoked. There was absolutely no smoke edge on the brisket and the consistency was soggy and chewy, as if it had been steeping in a pan of water. The sweet potato fries were quite good and generously sized. Service was OK with counter ordering and delivery to the table, but was never offered a refill on the iced tea. Would love to have a topnotch BBQ place in Edwardsville/Glen Carbon. Unfortunately, this isn't it.

Their brisket is the best I've ever eaten and I grew up in Texas, so that's saying something. Fiance had the Smokehouse nachos, I highly recommend both of them. Onion rings and baked beans were both delicious. The owners and staff are super friendly. I can't recommend them enough.

I've been twice in the last week, bringing the whole family the second time. IMO, the nachos here are fantastic, I thought they were well portioned, and the half order is easily enough for 2. I've tried the pork, brisket, and turkey. Brisket was better the first time, but still good the second. Turkey was quite good. Sides are decent. Corn casserole is good, and the baked beans were tasty. Place was clean, people were friendly. I thought it was appropriately priced, maybe slightly high. I've read the portion complaints...I'm a fat kid, and I wasn't able to finish the two meat platter either time. I guess some people expect the platter to be overflowing. I'd rather have a regular amount of quality, than a ton of garbage. Would recommend, and we will frequent.

Pat D.
I have eaten here 3 times now. The only complaint I have about the service is that it is slow. It is friendly, though. The only item I won't bother to order again is ribs. I think they use spare ribs....not much meat and lots of fat. Disappointing because I love good ribs. Everything else I've had has been good, but I would like more menu selections and would love to have great BBQ like we can get in St. Louis and Kansas City.
(3)
Barb Y.
The people working here are very nice, but the service was slow. The beauty of BBQ is that everything is bascially already cooked. We waited 20 minutes for our lunch and they were not crowded. We had the pulled pork and brisket sandwhiches. The meat was tender, but did not have a lot of flavor. The sides were good and prices were reasonable. Having someone come around and fill your drinks after you have paid was a bit akward because then you don't know if you should tip them or not. I think a "help yourself" soda fountain for refills would be better.

Chris M.
I went to Docs for lunch. The place has a nice decor and smelled like a smokehouse should smell... Ordered the Docs signature sandwich with seasoned fries and a sweet tea. 10 something was the total. Even though the tea is located right behind the register I had to wait 5 minutes for it to be brought out. The signature sandwich consisted of 3 small slices of moist yet flavorless brisket. Some maybe boiled onions? Not sure they were grilled..and a piece of cheese. The bread was the best part of the sandwich. The seasoned fries were regular fries seasoned with....... Salt. I guess my expectations were expecting some type of creative smokehouse seasoning. They did a good job with tea refills.... I hope this place improves and succeeds, but this is not what I expect for a BBQ joint..
(2)
Angell J.
Food was good. One suggestion is when someone calls in an order, they should not have to wait in the same line as the people coming in to sit down and eat. Our food was not as hot as I felt it should have been and the line was not short!

Kyle B.
Tried the ribs and brisket. I typically like BBQ with more rub on it, but this was really good, straight up BBQ. No rub crust, sauce on side, just perfectly smoked, not too dry, awesome ribs and brisket. I generally don't get pulled pork at a BBQ joint. It's kinda like the chicken fingers of BBQ. But, theirs looks pretty good. The sides didn't blow my mind, but they were better than average. I had the onion rings and beans. I'll be back again and again.

Affordable and tasty BBQ for the Eastern St Louis area. Atmosphere is typical for fast casual: a little noisy, OK seating comfort. Prices are reasonable and service is very speedy.

We LOVE this place. Been there many times and haven't had a bad meal yet. My fiancé loves the chicken nachos and I've enjoyed everything I've eaten. When you walk in it... It smells awesome!! Staff is friendly and owners are very nice. If you want delicious BBQ and don't want to drive to stl this is THE place. I've seen 1-star feedback. Those people are clearly nit picky or had a bad day. Disregard those :-)

Food was good. One suggestion is when someone calls in an order, they should not have to wait in the same line as the people coming in to sit down and eat. Our food was not as hot as I felt it should have been and the line was not short!
