Nothing I ordered tasted good. I won't go back.

It's a DINER, people! And for what it is, Omega is far superior to any other in the region. The soups are the bomb. Sure, I doubt they are homemade, but who cares? The food is always consistent and hot (or cold, depending on what you ordered) when it arrives at the table. Sides of fries are always hot and crispy, too. My water glass is kept full, soda refills keep coming, and the bread basket is always tasty. Plus they encourage you to take the remaining bread basket items with you with your leftovers. Leftovers? Yep, even at diner prices the portion sizes are large enough where I have never left without enough food for another meal. I love Omega. I've been coming here since I was a wee lad. We always made jokes about the "Omega drivers". You know the ones...the people that have to come to a complete stop on Ogden in order to make the right turn into the parking lot. God bless 'em, they're still pulling their same traffic holding up hijinks today.

My experience; I wanted to say that I suggest eating at your reaturant to a young mother and her three young children, one if which is autistic. Our server was very kind to the kids and noticed the mom had her hands full. She was from out of town only staying one evening to take her children to one if their events. You were a suggestion because she could feed her kids decent food and reasonable prices. As I knew she was very tight on cash. As we left, not only was the cashier short with us and the out if town visitors, but I hear her and the server complaining about the tip. I know on our tab I left close to 15%. I did not ask nor snoop about what the other folks left. But whatever it was or wasn't. It would have been wiser to speak of it after we left. I will not be back due to this fact and I plan to tell other locals about it. I was surprised and disappointed. I felt bad for the visitors incase they heard as well. I know my little family did.

I was in Downers Grove on business and needed a late breakfast and coffee. "Dimitris" down the road looked emty and "Omega" parking lot seemed full. I voted for Omega. GREAT coffee - hot and fresh. WAY overpriced eggs - not that fresh. SERVICE is good considering it was hustle and bustle and crowded. FOOD - very average - generous bread/muffin basket that you are invited to take home "Better than some - not as good as most.........."

I always wondered why the parking lot gets so full on the weekends. I have eaten here dozens of times since the late 1980's and it is nothing special. After trying several things on the menu, I have concluded that the only halfway-decent thing is their pancakes, specifically the apple pancakes and german pancakes which take about 30-35 minutes to arrive. The one star review comes for the following reasons: 1) For YEARS they were clearly recycling their bread baskets from one table to another. Either that, or someone in the back is putting dents into the rolls which look exactly like you would expect when someone takes a roll, is about to pull it apart, and changes their mind and puts it back. Now they allow you to take the extras home with you. 2) On several occasions when we were there for dinner, we would ask if they still had the special before committing to stay. Once our party was seated and ordered, each time we were told they were out of the special for hours. So why would the host or hostess lie to us??? 3) I have experienced heartburn after each meal, presumably due to the massive amount of salt (or MSG) that they use, and I had a mild case of food poisoning once.

As a lifelong DG resident, I'm also a lifelong Omega diner. I was disappointed when it closed and have been craving their Greek salad (no one else has the same dressing), so when the reopened I was anxious to see if the menu had changed. I was happy to see it hadn't and the Greek dressing is still the same!! The staff seemed friendlier then I remembered and our food was excellent! Very happy to have them back!

They have a menu item called the Hobo Banquet. What does this mean? It means I have to order it because saying it out loud with a straight face is impossible. Server: What can I get for you, Sweetie? Me: Why, I'll take the Hobo Banquet, Madam. (In smug British accent, with pinky in the air, while I adjust my monocle, of course) Luckily for me, it's also vegetarian- basically, this dish was meant for me. The Hobo Banquet is a skillet with hash browns, eggs, cheese, and a poop ton of veggies. It's actually quite delicious and made me question why I didn't embrace the quest of a hobo much earlier in my life. The service was A-okay. Nothing special, don't expect many smiles, but keep in mind that the place is open 24 hours and they probably don't get too many joys from working the 11pm - 5am shift. One thing I liked is that the basket of free rolls has a note on it that says you can take the whole basket home with you if you want, which helps answer the age old question of "how many tables were also served/recycled this same exact bread basket?". Answer: None. Ooh- and they don't cheap out on the basket either; ours had 2 croissants in it. Score!

There are several locations in the Illinois area, but I like it. Its a diner and has many menu choices. I haven't had a bad meal here so far, but it seems all cooked well and pretty fresh even though I'm sure majority of the food is canned or frozen. For diner food, its decent.

Went there yesterday morning. The place is the same as far as its looks and interior. No longer a 24 hour operation. Ordered what I thought was the Gypsy Steak skillet, but unbeknownst to me she brought me a regular Gypsy skillet. I started eating because I figured it was the steak. Anyway, I realized this is not what I wanted, but I was hungry and ate some more. Waitress came by and she said it was not steak, but the regular Gypsy skillet. Well, I think she should have checked her understanding of what I was ordering with me before bringing order to the kitchen. Anyway, regardless of it not being steak, it wasn't very good. It was loaded with hash browns with some ham chunks. Another turnoff was they used cheese slices on the top of the skillet instead of grated cheese. It tells me they are a little too thrifty when it comes to their cooking.

I had a good experience here in the early am and close to lunch time. Service was exceptionally good on several accounts, so perhaps I got lucky? The drip coffee is actually some of the best I've had (as far as diners go). It's clean, roomy, nice place. They are apparently only open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays at the moment, but I'm told that may or may not change over the summer. I'm most likely to go back here for some coffee and a book or a late night study session. Food was... eh... ok (but not a- ok). I'm not complaining, but the steak in my "gypsy skillet" was on the chewy side, despite ordering it medium; I'll have to go more rare if I'm here again. Fresh fruit was good. Did I mention that I loved the coffee? Deserts looked good but I was already beyond full. Overall, good for diner food but I thought it was a bit on the pricey side compared to similar places. Perhaps I'm just spoiled, but I'm used to my coffee being complimentary with an $11 breakfast instead of an additional $2. I'd go back, but I'd rather try some other places first.

Every time my husband and I walk in here, we are the youngest in the place. Not that it's a bad thing. I dig senior-centric places. It means that you get food that's very reliable and not too exotic. And it holds true, here, as well. The first thing you see when you walk in is a front counter surrounded by pie and pastry glass cases, tempting you with all sorts of delicious looking baked goods and sugary pastries. From personal experience, the eclairs and Napoleons are dynamite (see, I made a funny!) The decor is standard family-restaurant style, nothing too fancy. The service has always been good, as so the food. I like their dinner specials, because everything from entree to soup, salad, and desert is included in one price. But the best thing is the basket of rolls, muffins, and bread sticks that come out to your table at the beginning of the meal. I usually eat so much of that, that I end up taking most of my dinner home with me. I usually get the same thing when I come in here, which is the roast beef dinner. It's good. Not the best ever, but decent. My husband gets a burger or a sandwich, and I've never heard a complaint out of him about it, so I can assume he likes it as well.

If I didn't go in last weekend, they would have more stars. After a movie, I was hungry and needed something to eat. Well it was past 11pm and the only place open was the Omega. Well it has to be good because I went in there before and had a good meal, right? Wrong, so wrong. First of all since I already had sweets early in the day I decided to go with something meaty...like a chili boat. I have no idea what a chili boat is because the menu failed it describe it other than having onions and cheese. Along with chili, I also ordered a Sprite (or 7-Up) and when the glass came to the table, it fricking reeked. It was a combo of bleach and sourness. Purely yuck! I get another one and it has the same problem. At this point, I'm pretty much disgusted. Then comes the infamous chili boat. It was chili in a hollowed out bread bowl. The problem was they over-baked the bread bowl in order to melt the cheese. The bowl was as hard as a rock and truly awful. The chili was just about average. My mom had the Belgium waffles and loved them, even though it took the waitress 10 minutes to bring any syrup. So she sat there hungry and staring at un-syruped waffles during that time. To top everything off, I was charged for the cheese in the chili bowl, even though it did not specifically state that extra charge in the menu. At that point, I paid it and got the hell out of there. I'm still debating if I'll ever be back and it's a shame because I've never had a bad experience in the past.

What happened here? My family has been going to Omega ever sense I was a small kid, it used to be a good meal at a decient price. Lately though this place has gone to the dogs... only I think they would find this place too dirty to eat at. Last time we ate here my mom found a piece of plastic wrap in her Pancakes, and the time before that she found an egg shell. Seriously what is going on in the kitchen here. Also I overheard another lady at a different table that found a hair in her food gross. If you come here when it is raining don't close your unbrella when you come inside because the roof is leaking. Was fun while it lasted but think I will go with a bag of old roy before I decide to eat here again.

Not as good as it used to be in years past. The breakfast is still good and not a bad value at all, but the last time I was there my table did not receive a basket of bread despite the fact that every other table in the restaurant did. The staff was a bit dry.

Where to go... It's a little past midnight and I needed a little something to satisfy my sweet tooth so my friends and I decided to go to this late night diner for some pies. Big mistake! It looks like they get all of their desserts from Costco. It was so gross what a waste of time but it was too cold out and the coffee was alright so we sat drank our coffee and talked the night away. A nice spot to catch up with some friends since everything else was pretty much closed in burbs, just don't eat any desserts here.

I recently went here and was severely disappointed. I used to eat here before it closed and all the craziness ensued, and while Jimmy was totally whacked the staff was amazing! Always polite, very friendly and prompt with service. This was not the case when I dined here Monday night. Our server Kerri was very curt with us. She rolled her eyes when we asked for lemons among other things. At one point my friend asked if she could get soup with her meal and she said of course so she ordered navy bean. Not realizing it had meat in it, she then would not eat it and just asked for it taken off the bill which they did at the very end only after fighting them on it. I just am still shocked by the rudeness of how server throughout the entire meal. We got attitude at every turn. I don't know how she has a job when she acts like that. Then when I said something politely up front the guy basically called me a liar saying how she never gets complaints and was also rude saying its probably my fault and I interpreted it wrong. Uh no bro, I work in a restaurant, I know how you should treat your guests. Anyways the only reason it gets two stars instead of one is the inside is beautifully restored and the food was alright.

This place reminded me so much in appearance and style of a Big Boy it wasn't even funny. Same case of pies, same banquette booths, same old diners. Menu was a little broader-ranging though, so much that I started to glaze over after a while while reading it. The assorted bread basket was quite good, and they encourage you to take the leavings home with you. Good thing I loaded up on this (they give you a bottle of olive oil and parmesan cheese for dipping; how could I not?), because my entree was less than appealing. I ordered a ham and swiss panini. How hard is it to screw up a grilled cheese sandwich? Well, i guess if you try to build it on a roll, that can cause trouble from the get-go. They also put in some basil pesto that leaked green goo all over the place and caused the ham to slide out of one side. There was literally no good way to eat this thing, and after a few bites I gave up. Fries on the side weren't very memorable. The meal was preceded by a bowl of chicken and dumpling soup which was filling and tasty, if a bit salty. My boyfriend got the Queen Burger (for the olive lover). I'm willing to give Omega another shot because I'm sure I'd find something better on their big menu (if nothing else, it looks like the place to go for dessert: tons of pies and sundaes), but this first impression didn't impress me.

When I was in high school, we spent some time ditching class at Omega and some late nights drinking coffee, there, too. It's still the same as always. Not the hippest place, the customers are not generally in the youthful age bracket, and the food is basic diner food. I will say that I have never had bad service there, and my last visit, which was yesterday, was no exception. Not somewhere we'll go out of our way to visit but if we're around, it's definitely an option.

Went there today with my kids. Service totally went south. I put an additional order in cause my son didn't care for his meal. Never complained but the waitress totally turned it around and made it look like I complained. She was rude and it was obvious she was talking about us to other staff members. Laughing and literally pointing our way. My kids noticed and were surprised. In reality the food was bad. Bacon was burnt, hashbrowns were not fully cooked. My salad tasted like well water. This place used to be so awesome to go to. This was when the staff worked hard and was still friendly and the cooks knew what they were doing!! Not going back!!! And I know the waitress will get it back. I heard what her other table said to the manager about her.

CLOSED! Due to unpaid water bills! I can't believe it! So sad...This long time staple of Downers Grove is no more. You can visit their smaller sister restaurant in Lombard on Highland Ave. though. The food is exactly the same.

I seem to remember Omega being better than the average Greek restaurant. But they seem to have fallen into the standard-fare so common throughout the area - you know, oak woodworking, brass fxtures and the boilerplate menu of everything. It's almost like a chain in how they all conform to the same-old-same-old. The Greek salad and the Spartacus salads are very generous in proportion as is the case with most of their entrees. They allow you to take home any uneaten rolls from the basket they put out on the tables (about 8 or so items). The food is certainly good, the prices fair and the service OK. In other words - it's a decent place to go but not something to go out of your way for (I think that used to be the case though).

I used to here all the time in high school when my friends and I were bored, often late night. My husband was looking for a breakfast spot for him and his co-workers after working third shift at Trader Joe's. I suggested Omega. Omega is good at what it does: simple, comfort foods such as soups, skillets, pancakes, etc. I would come here for a cheap, easy meal any day.

This review is for the feta omelette and service only on my one visit for dinner here. I'm from Los Angeles visiting family here in the Chicago are. Short review.....best feta omelette I've ever had in my 54 year existence. No exaggeration. It was fantastic! My brother had the chicken which the menu noted takes 30 minutes to prepare. He eats here often and was very happy with it for his first time ordering it. Service couldn't have been any better with my possibly annoying vegetable questions and requests. Very inexpensive too. I will return.

Always love coming here the first night I'm in town. The burgers are yummy & the waitresses are too!!! I don't truly feel like I'm home in Downers Grove until I've come here. I usually come straight here from O'Hare. Home sweet home feeling.

I'm on the fence between two and three stars. As a native Westmontonion (is that a real word?), I've been to Omega approximately 100,000 times. The restaurant used to serve quality food at a decent price, which is always awesome. However, in recent years, ownership changed and the quality has diminished significantly. AND they only serve chicken and rice soup on Sunday nights now, which is disheartening to say the least. They used to have this selection 24 hours a day, seven days a week and now it's just one measly night. How disappointing. I also spent all four years of high school in the smoking section of this restaurant after 10 p.m. at least one night a week. I think most kids from the area did the same. However, they started enacting what we liked to call "Steak and Shake" policies like everyone at the table has to order something besides a beverage or bread only comes with entrees. I hate these kinds of policies because you really kick out one of your best crowds - even though everyone doesn't order something every time, I guarantee they made more money from this demographic than the senior crowd. The food is pretty good. As I have been going here for over 20 years, I've had almost everything on the menu. The Greek selections are always good but highly pricey now. The Jewish selections are also excellent (seriously, I know it's weird, but try the Lox!). I've had all of their breakfast items and they are delicious. Classic Greek diner fare. My only complaint is the high prices; the food is good but it's not $10 good. If the prices go any higher, I can guarantee they will get way less business. There are tons of shitty, overpriced restaurants on Ogden Ave. I think that, for a west suburban staple, this place is definitely not worth going to. They only thing that is still good about this place is the Hobo Banquet, but the price has increased so much in the last few years that I can get a comparable one at a diner here in Chicago for less money. However, just a note: I'll still go here whenever I'm home because it's one of those places that you can't just cut out of your life. It's just that place that I'll keep going with friends for late night coffee, soup and now non-smoking when we're all back at home in Westmont/DG. Meh. Maybe they'll step it up soon and bring back the higher quality and lower prices that they were once known for.

To be honest, The Omega is somewhere between a two and three star restaurant. It is your typical Greek diner with pretty standard fare. There should almost be a rating system based on what kind of place a restaurant is; this is a good diner but nothing compared with a restaurant like Sushi House. The menu is made up of the usual sandwiches and plates like you would find in any other diner. I usually get the Big Dipper which is basically a French Dip. If you order it "Deluxe" you get french fries and either a soup or salad. At $11 it's a little pricey but they are generous with the meat and the soup is pretty good. Also, if you order certain plates you'll get a desert as well. Their dessert is always pretty good and they have a wide variety of cookies, cakes, and pastries. The waitress will also give you a bag to take home any rolls and crackers you didn't eat which is great. The service is pretty good. My water was always full and our food was brought out pretty quickly. The waitresses are consistently nice but don't hover like at some places. In sum, I would recommend the Omega to anyone looking for a quick, decent meal.

Walking in with a bunch of my friends at 2 in the morning, I wasn't expecting much out of Omega. I figured that, like most places open 24 hours and/or really early, the service would be poor and the food would be merely sufficient. I'm glad to say I was proven utterly wrong. Which, I point out, is a rarity. Omega impressed me far beyond what I was expecting. I would completely understand if the staff and servers weren't on their best attitudes at 2 in the morning, having to serve a group of eight 20-somethings who didn't want to go to Denny's after a birthday party. But no, our server was friendly and helpful the entire time. The food was outstanding; my patty melt was tasty and delicious. Well-priced, to boot. Not much to say, really, because the food was good, at a good price, and the server didn't act like she was tired or not awake. Outstanding place.

Came on a weekday morning and was very pleasantly surprised. I thought this would be your typical greasy spoon pancake joint. Friendly host and servers, liberal with the coffee refills. I don't think my coffee ever went below 2/3 the whole meal. Me likey. Complimentary fresh fruit cup, which was an awesome surprise. Food came really fast, was fresh and lots of it. Prices were comparable to similar places, but this was so much better in every way. It was clean, coffee was good, food was good, fresh-tasting. The only weird thing is that they gave us one thing of jelly with our toast. I got apple, husband got boysenberry. I guess I like that millions of people aren't digging in the little jam-holder thing (the idea grosses me out), but apple jelly? Overall, very satisfied!

  • Katherine B.

Omega has just gone downhill. I used to enjoy going here but now the food quality is poor, the service is lacking any sort of friendliness (even the fake kind), and their ridiculously sized menu makes me wonder how old some of their food is. The only perk is the blueberry muffin in the bread basket.

    (2)
  • Stuart A.

Don't let their recent generator troubles discourage you-- the Omega on Ogden is a Downers Grove institution and isn't going anywhere any time soon. Pretty good food at reasonable prices. The general atmosphere and friendly staff gives Omega the edge over the other Greek-style pancake houses on Ogden (Emmy's, Major, etc.). I wish it was still open 24/7, though.

Ok, your typical dinner, but with fresh rolls that you can take home. friendly atmosphere. but the most important thing was their Athenian Style Broiled Chicken! It was out of this world. Their was a food party in my mouth. I'm not a big eater, but ate most of it myself and had enough to share with my aunt who left her meatloaf to the side to enjoy my dish. I would highly recommend this dish. It had a slight lemon flavor but the chicken just melted in your mouth and the potatoes were just as flavorful. Yummy yummy I would go again and again.

I almost did not write a review because so many people have written very descriptive reviews on this establishment to date. Well, I guess I am the last to try Omega Restaurant. My mom, who lives in the area, wanted to go here Friday morning for breakfast. Whatever my mom wants, she gets. So I take her to Omega. My first impression, this has to be a good restaurant, I cannot find a parking spot and I have a handicap tag I can use because she is in the car, well it is useless today. I dropped her off at the door and located a parking spot in the back, way in the back. They better have good food here, I think as I am walking to the door. Well, my mom has already been seated in her "must have booth", no tables ever!!!!! Don't ask. Anyway, the waitress was very nice and as another yelper stated, I never saw the bottom of my coffee mug. She was always right there with the coffee pot in hand refilling my mug even though it was quite busy. Now, I will be honest. This restaurant is a favorite for local seniors, but I enjoy talking to seniors, you can learn a lot about life. The waitstaff is extremely friendly. The food was good. I had a corned beef omelet, but had cheese added, pancakes were good. They offer free complimentary fruit or coffee cake. What?? A restaurant offering something free in this economy...hmmm, smart move. Well, I will return in the future because my mom likes this place. Also the breakfast portions were large and filling and the waitstaff was nice and efficient no matter how busy. The atmosphere was typical, but they offer a good value meal for a good price which is probably why seniors love this place. Unfortunately, our seniors have to live on a tight budget. I won't start talking about how we treat our seniors and military families. or our economy... Enjoy everyone!!

The quality and taste of their food is good. The portions are generous and the service is prompt. The greek skirt steak and greek chicken come with a massive delicous greek salad, I usually eat the salad there and take home the meal for the next day. Their feta is import, which I LOVE! They also have a bakery on site and make all the bread and desserts there. I was going to give it 4 stars but it deserves 5.

Omega closed on July 17th. The owner(s) are embroiled in all kinds of conflict, and now apparently the village has shut off the restaurant's water supply over unpaid bills. Based on local news articles, the Omega' s days are over.

Omega is your standard greasy 24 hour restaurant with everything on the menu. The crowd is generally high school kids past 10pm and senior citizens in the mornings, with a mix of everything in-between. The service is strange, but they do have a pretty decent bread basket filled with muffins, croissants, and rolls and a complimentary fruit cup served with breakfast in the mornings. The grilled cheese and chocolate chip pancakes are good, stay away from the saganaki omelet. The only reason I would go to Omega would be if it were very late and there was no where else to go.

Omega. I LOVE Omega. I'm surprised to see the restaurant only have an average of 3 stars. No one has soups as delicious and comforting as Omega. I don't know how they do it. Whether it's cream of chicken, cream of broccoli, chicken noodle, minestrone or matzo ball soup.. I've had it all and every soup is just a bowl of warmth. In regards to their entrees, it's really what you would expect of any family restaurant. Definitely not fine-dining, but if you just want food that makes you feel like you're at home, you should come to Omega. My grandparents use to always take me here for dinner when I was younger. I still go to Omega with my husband as we both share an affinity for this place. I hope one day, we'll be able to bring our children here as well.

We had a very good dining experience at omega. We started out with saganaki. I had the chicken Caesar salad which tasted great. The chicken was charbroiled which was a plus. My friend had the pork chops. It came with 3 very thick chops. The kids meal came with a house made Mickey Mouse cookie that my daughter loved. Don't forget to try the omega cheesecake. Its worth gaining a couple pounds for. Lol. Happy to see that the old omega that everyone loved is back in service.

A diner: My most favorite kind of restaurant. Omega: As solid as a diner can get. I have got to tell you that putting all of those bakery items in the case at the front counter was an excellent idea. This was not your usual assortment of bakery items. It was a whole array of really delicious looking stuff. The service here was great The food here was good, the portions were more than adequate and it did not completely drain the wallet. It was a solid breakfast and I am looking forward to more in the future. I have to give special mention to the coffee cake they offer you before your breakfast arrives!.

We went to the Omega after several years' absence. Our granddaughter wanted chocolate chip pancakes, and in the late afternoon, it seemed like the Omega was the most likely place to find them. She gave them high marks. Grandma liked the olive burger. The veggie omelet had no particular flavor, the hash browns were overcooked, and the decaf coffee had been on the burner way too long. Service was good, as usual.

My friend and I came here last night and talked for hours in the comfort of one of their booths. So I'm giving them 2 stars for not trying to push us out of the door. The mozzarella sticks I ordered were pretty good, so here's 1 more star. BUT... Their ladies' room has one stall, and it was already occupied when I had to go to the bathroom. After a while, a waitress came out and... ... get this ... Walked right past the sink and out of the door. Yes. You read that right. She. Did. Not. Wash. Her. Hands. That just ruined the whole Omega experience for me. Yuck.

I moved here years ago and about my second week in HS sophmore year I got the "We're going to Omega, wanna come?" What the hell is Omega says the Jersey girl. It is basically a diner, many better ones in NJ in my opinion but it seems they are the only place open in the burbs after sundown (well 9pm). The food is passable, but nothing spectacular. Late nights you can get to meet all the different police officers from the surrounding towns, see whose uniforms are different and which color their cars are.

This place has pretty good coffee and the food prices are really reasonable. Most of its appeal for me is it's 24 hours. Probably best not to be there though when all of the nightclubs get out.

what? 3 stars? are you serious, yelp? this is one of the best diners i've ever been to. here is why: -they accommodated our group of 13 people and were friendly, quick to take and deliver our orders, and with no mistakes. that is a feat in and of itself. -seriously, endless coffee. i think i had 5 or 6 refills. -enormous menu of pretty decent food and even more enormous portions. too enormous, quite enough for leftovers. one of our friends ordered a reuben and it was the. hugest. sandwich. i. have. ever. seen. he somehow managed to eat the whole thing. we filmed it. it was worth filming. -awesome bread bowl, and they let you take all of it home. -i didn't have any cake or pastries, but they looked truly epic.

I will go ahead and agree with just about every other review on Omega. Being from Downers Grove, I grew up in the 80s/90s eating at this place often. Typically it was on the weekends for breakfast and I loved it. It was packed, lively and just fun to be there. Besides that, the food was great. Bacon, eggs, and bread all done very well. And their cream of anything soup that they were serving that day was amazing. Whether it's broccoli, chicken, chicken with rice, potato, it really didn't matter. I ordered it and loved it. A side note on Omega. This is Omega by definition - come during the day and the average age of the customer is 70. Come after 10 PM and suddenly the average age is 20. It's just the way this place is. Well as I aged things changed and maybe my taste buds changed. Either way, I don't find Omega nearly as appealing as it used to be. Nothing tastes as good as it used to and I won't go near that free bread they put on the tables. I fear it's probably reused from table to table. If you haven't tried Omega, don't start now. I think this place thrives on people that grew up here and find comfort in returning to places of their childhood. But everytime I go I remind myself that it's not worth coming back. I'm disappointed I don't like this place anymore. It reminds me of the good old days.

The big O, as we lovingly called it when we were here every few days during high school, has a special place in my heart. My friends and I used to come here to sit in smoking and be super cool when we were 16. Now I can get into other, much cooler places. Order the cream of chicken soup, the Hobo Banquet, a milk shake, or the BLT. Don't order full dinner meals, some of the breakfast is okay. Try to Queen burger at least once, it's awesome, lol. The host is the same from 7 years ago and is still a douche even though I'm never here with a giant group of obnoxious teenagers anymore. I'm not sure I would recommend that people come here, but I'm definitely going back over and over. I have to...

On our way to a morning meeting, we stopped here for breakfast on a Friday morning. We were seated fairly quickly. But after being seating, it took over 10 minutes to get a cup of coffee and that was because we stopped a waitress to ask if anyone would be helping us. At that point she told us that someone would be with us shortly. About 5 minutes later, we were waited on. We were brought our complimentary fruit and coffee cake within about 5 minutes. Our actual breakfast wasn't received for another 20 minutes or so. The food was Ok. Nothing to brag about.. I was very disappointed in the service here. If I were in that area again, I would try to avoid this place.

Omega, when we first started going here, was a bustling place. Still is, for the most part. However, they've recently changed their hours so during the week they close at 10. Tonight we came in for dinner just after 8 with our infant son, who spent the meal either eating or sleeping. Now I realize many a badly behaved parent and/or child has ruined it for the rest of us, but the hostess put us in a closed off section of the restaurant that the busboys were cleaning and the waitresses were restocking. We had to ask for the olive oil (they take it off the tables at 8), and the entire meal was spent being vacuumed around, dusted, salt and pepper shakers and ketchups refilled while the waitresses gossiped about getting all this done so they could finish their shift. At 8:30. The restaurant closes at 10! All the while other people were happily dining on the other side of the restaurant and they weren't being subject to a cleaning. Their food is still decent. Prices are on the higher side. Breakfasts are good. But I'm really aggravated by their declining customer service.

At the Omega Restaurant & Pancake House of Downers Grove, Illinois, after grubbing up such entrées as GRILLED CALF'S LIVER, NORWEGIAN SARDINE PLATE, and HOBO BANQUET, you may find your taste buds overwhelmed. You may lean back in your seafoam-green seat, pat your stomach, take a deep breath of secondhand-smoke-filled air, and say, "Hey, you know what? After munching on that week-old bread basket featuring sesame-seed rolls, wheat buns, croissants, Italian-looking breadsticks, saltines, and a banana-nut muffin and downing those POPPERS (JALAPEÑO) , I think my tummy is about to bust." That's what the TUMMY BUSTER is for. It's only the "Largest and Most Beautiful Sundae You Have Ever Seen." But you're up for something wilder. Something unexpected. Something ... from the crypt. Something by the name of SURPRISE ZOMBIE. It's the "World's Largest Ice Cream Soda." It's $8.95. It's obscene. Your waitress, Lezlee, must enlist the help of a co-worker to both prepare and carry the monster to your table, cursing you all the while, you little shit, you who have the nerve to order 60 ounces of ice cream at 1 in the morning, just to see what's so surprising about an ice-cream soda, other than the fact that it's associated with a resurrected corpse. Surprise! It tastes terrible. Like a good ice-cream soda that has died and returned as a mutant dessert, perhaps. Once you pick out the eight or so drink umbrellas (surprise!--it's a tropical zombie), random clusters of maraschino cherries, and stale Oreos, you meet a foamy mass of whipped cream that is not so much sweet as it is sudsy. By the time your spoon has scraped through the froth, a glacial ceiling has crystallized atop the float. You must chip, chip away if you ever wish to explore the murkiness that lies beneath. What will your excavation reveal? Surprise! Zero flavors of ice cream that go with root beer. From the depths of the cloudy beige waters, you pull strawberry, mint-chocolate-chip, butter-pecan, coffee, cookie-dough, and rainbow-sherbet scoops. If you dare to taste the dessert-creature, you will find that each and every bite tastes like chilled Wite-Out. But you don't care at this point. It's Lezlee's brains you're drooling for now.

Omega reopened after being closed for nearly a year. The outside received a facelift; the inside, a fresh coat of stain and varnish. I'm not sure what else. The layout is the same. The place is so dark--not lighting, but decor. Too dark, I think. Service is average and food is average. I ordered a steak and eggs and got a decent, although unevenly cooked steak sitting in a puddle of its juices on its own plate, thankfully. Omega is again giving a decent amount of hash browns. It didn't the last time I was here. The toast could have been toasted longer. They have a new breakfast menu with all the standard fare. Omega still hands out those fruit dishes at breakfast - a tradition I think most old timers appreciate. My wife's mushroom omelet was pretty good. Her toast wasn't as toasty as it should have been either. Also, the bakery display case is still out front next to the register. It looks the same as it did years ago, I never ordered from it so I do not know if what is displayed is any good or not.

Better than iHop. If you were like us, visiting this part of the country and found yourself hungry in the middle of the night, go ahead enter through these doors and enjoy the food. Well its not the greatest food, but for 1A.M you wonder if Paula Dean is back there cooking up a storm. Not sure if it was the time or actually the food, but it all tasted good. My uncle went here every day for 4 days straight!

"Meh" is the perfect word to describe this place. It's not bad, but it certainly doesn't wow me. The food is typical for a Greek family restaurant. The decor is outdated and rather drab.

This Omega is just ok. Kind of a bummer since my husband grew up on Omega and really liked it until we started becoming a little underwhelmed w/ their dinner choices. I don't understand why a Greek-owned joint wouldn't have a nice full entree gyros salad with the fixins on their menu. There is a total lack of really good greek salads w/ gyros meat in the area unless you go to Greek Isles or Costas or fancier places. I will say they have a huge menu for breakfast, it's great for kids and service is usually pretty good. They stopped allowing smoking- thank you! If you want my opinion of better alternatives- try Dali's Cafe in downtown DG- fancier breakfast like crepes and the regular omlettes and such. A little less "factory".

This restaurant is more then just a place to eat . For anyone from this area it is a staple in our community . I use to go there as a child lots of great memories for me . Now my kids beg to go there . They have some of the best soup I have ever had . The Greek salad is also amazing they give you a huge hunk of feta so good !

i'll admit, a few years ago you could have found me there any night of the week, between the hours of midnight and 6am. i got bored of it fast, but that's where my friend group and ex boyfriend hung out, so he dragged me there. since that breakup, it's like a better food epiphany! there is a good chance that i will NEVER set foot in omega again. the soups are old, the eggs have brillo pad pieces in it (it happened to my friend), the bread baskets are reused... i can go on and on. most of the wait staff is half retarded, and the food will make you shit water. good job omega, for being horrible. there's got to be an award for worst excuse for a restaurant in the downers grove area.

Service is slow, slow slow.It took aprox 25 min for us to get our breakfast on a Friday morning around 900 am. It wasn't busy, had to ask a waitress to get our first cup of coffee. Owner was to cheap to turn on the air, it was very warm. even the waitress made a comment about the heat.So if you want to wait around a half hour in room that is making you sweat for an average meal go here.I wont go back.

Stopped into this place by chance. Hung over, starving and being in the middle of nowhere. Coffee... not so good. Onion soup, delicious, other than the fact that I skipped the usual gooey cheese. Still good for the most part. Ordered their chicken melt. Huge piece of grilled chicken. I really liked the fact that the waitress served me some watermelon along with my sandwich. Eating watermelon after a long night is heaven. After reading the previous reviews, I really like the fact that this joint to opened 24 hours. John does have a funny drunken story about this place. Go figure!!!

Stopped by Omega for lunch with my grandma during a recent trip back home. Gotta give them props for continuity - it looked, smelled and the food tasted exactly as it had the last time I ate there in high school - about 12 years ago. Omega is local comfort food. You come here for an easy lunch or dinner, or after a football game or to study for finals.

I was introduced to this Chicago burbs hangout place about 4 years ago. The Omega is pretty boss. They have a good selection, decent prices, and they're much better than the Denny's/Steak'n'Shake/IHOP swill. Anything 24-hours gets my attention.

This is an excellent Family Restaurant offering a verity of food on the menu and generous quantities of food at reasonable prices. We were out for a shopping trip in the burbs today and got hungry for lunch. Not wanting to go to any of the chain restaurants, thought we would try something different. Read the reviews here and decided to give Omega a try. Glad we did. I had the Baked Cod with fruit and it was delicious and nicely done. My eating companion had the breakfast pork chop plate and really enjoyed it. The service was excellent and the staff attends to details. We were amazed at the number of cars in the parking lot and the big crowd inside the place. They seem to handle it all without a hitch. We recommend Omega and come hungry.

The place is cavernous and has no charm, the waitresses are sullen and possibly still in college, and inexplicably there are men in Omega ties wandering around ignoring the customers. On the diner food spectrum, most of it seems to fall on the 'Holy Hell, This Is Going to Kill Me, Isn't It' side of the spectrum, but more importantly, the coffee is terrible which means I'm never going back. Two stars instead of one because it's open 24 hours, and if you can't go home, maybe you can go here.

I really like Omega. It is nothing fancy - just good, solid food and good service. We usually go there for dinner and have never been disappointed. We generally take out-of-town visitors here on their first day in town - with the large traditional menu, there is always something that everyone will like. Also, water glasses and coffee cups are perpetually refilled. This is important for folks who have just gotten off a plane - something I am well familiar with :). I always miss it when I go back...

Omega has been a place for my family and I to go to for several years. Lately it just seems to have gone down hill. We have gone twice in the last two weeks and on the first occasion my mom had ordered the potato pancakes. This restaurant does get a little bit of kudos for making their own from scratch instead of just heating one up that has been in the freezer. Those kudos tended to be short lived when my mom happened to find plastic wrap and an egg shell in her pancake. Now I thought to myself no place can be perfect... so I brushed it off. Everyone makes mistakes right. The food in the past has always been good here. So we ended up going again this past Sunday night. My parents had arrived before my sister and I so we told the person seating us that we were expecting to meet our family here. She said that she hadn't seen anyone and we were seated. Well after waiting about 20 minutes we got a call from our dad that he was sitting right behind the counter. I was a little angry at the staff since we told them we were meeting our family. To make matters worse... I was half way through my dinner when the table across from me pulled a hair out of their sour cream. At that point I immediately stopped eating and was thinking about making a b-line to the women's restroom. DISGUSTING....two weeks in a row. Someone should call the board of health on this place. It will be a long time before I ever go back to Omega. This place has some cleaning up

They can never keep servers long enough too write a good review. It is typical frozen food dropped in a fryer, like all pancake houses. It does have a giant dessert counter. It does have a diner counter. And it IS open 24/7. those are the bonuses. Out of all the Greek Pancake houses around, this one has the freshest "free pastry basket". Prices are a little high. (I think 6 bucks for pancakes).

I ate here, with a friend, back in either late February or in early March. It was in the late evening, between 6PM-10PM. We came in from the medical center next door after a meeting, we sat promptly, ordered fast, and when the food came we ate leisurely. We had bread rolls, an appetizer, soup, salad, entree and dessert plus a soda each. My server was KELLY. All of our meal was exactly what we expected. It was served properly and spaced out well between courses. Hot foods served hot, and cold dishes cold. The ONLY incident that occurred was when i took my last spoonful of soup, my mouth found a piece of TREE in it. Well IT was wood. In fact it was the kind of wood that restaurants use in order to skewer meats and such, in order to make kabobs. And it was about an inch long. I found it very funny that something always seems to happen to me, no matter whom i'm with, when having meals with family and friends. I think the BOSS is having some fun with me, and testing my spirit. Well KELLY just happened to come by our table to check up on us, when this happened right in front of her. She saw me pull it from my mouth, and witnessed that it WAS a wooden skewer, about an inch long. What KELLY did next was what i never would have expected, and i did not make any attempt to rectify or remedy this situation, as i was too busy laughing at the incident that occurred. KELLY, on her own, went to the kitchen, and notified the cooks to check that the soup tureens were clear and clean from any possible EXTRA debris that might have fallen into the soup pots, BEFORE SERVING ANOTHER BOWL. Then she notified the manager what had happened, and he both canceled ALL of my part of the check, and gave both my friend and i a complementary dessert, due to the incident. None of this was necessary, and i never requested this treatment, but it was a SUPERB way to both handle and rectify this type of situation. This was on their own volition. I was ASTOUNDED AND VERY GRATEFUL, for their kind and warm treatment. It wasn't necessary for me, BUT it really felt good to know that they really appreciated me being there, and wanted me to have a great memory of how the incident was handled, so that i would be happy to return to their establishment. The server crew was a well oiled machine. They came with something to a table, and returned to the back with something from a table, even if not from their own station. The wait staff greeted everyone in their viewable area, even if NOT in their section. Every server watched every other server's station when that server wasn't present. It was both fun to be there, and a pleasant and enjoyable experience while dining. And KELLY, whom would like to become a professional photographer, will be very good at dealing with her live subjects, as she showed me how adept she is at handling uncomfortable situations. A REAL PRO! Her coworkers are very lucky to have her, as she is TO HAVE THEM. This restaurant has a very exceptional evening crew, and they ALL deserve this great review. Keep this QUALITY service up, and both you and your restaurant WILL benefit. Again my sincere thanks. KELLY, you really deserved my tip. Thank you! This is why i gave ALL of you a 5-STAR rating, food was good, service was great!

Traditional family restaurant with something for everyone. Huge place with extensive menu and good food. Their strength is the eggs and pancakes. The kind of place politicians visit on election day to press the flesh. Kind service.

I don't like the food as much as my husband. It's a typical Greek breakfast place, lots of food, cheap prices but lots of grease and lower quality. The up side is it's the only 24-hour place within miles of here. If you're looking for a late-night breakfast, this place is it.

Have always had a very good dining experience here with good food fast service and comfortable seating. Granted I do not experiment with a menus and once I find something i like I'll order it over and over. I read the one comment on ribs and to me you just do not order ribs at anything but a top notch rib place...would I order a steak here ? No ! Heck I do not even order hamburgers at Greek places. The only thing I do not like is exiting east bound on a Friday lunch time

I was an advocate for them in the past. Our visit this time wasn't great. The skirt steak was about half the size of previous visits and cooked too well done. Our server was surly too! Here's what topped it off for me and will not allow me to think about returning. At the register there was a woman questioning her added charges with the manager and cashier. She apparently had gluten free and egg whites or something That was added on as extra charges. The customer thought the server should have told her these things were extra. The manager was downright rude to her. Right or wrong he could have treated her with respect. So he gained the couple of dollars and probably lost that lady and her Partner and certainly has lost my wife and I As customers. Penny wise.

I should clarify, a Groupon's promotional value expires, but the amount you pay for the Groupon never expires. So if you pay $15 for a $30 promotion and it expires, the place of business will still give you the value of what you paid for - so in this instance the $15. I went back to use it based on the restaurants new parameters and the server was good so I'm raising my rating slightly.

This is a family style restaurant. Always have good conversation with the waitresses. They are hilarious. Saganaki is my favorite to start with. The salad is delicious ascwell as the soups. I love the spinach pie and liver/onion is the best. I won't order that anywhere else. Never have room for the desert do we bring it home.....Dunstone always gets to it before morning....need I say anything else

I live almost smack dab in the middle between the Downers Grove Omega and the Lombard Omega. I assume they are owned by the same people, but I also know what happens when I assume things. This one, tho? It wadn't good, ya'll. We came here with my parents the Friday after New Years and the food was just bad-frozen-microwave-dinner-terrible. TURRIBUHL! Mind you, I made the mistake of ordering the prime rib special. And seriously, I wasn't expecting Lawry's quality, but still. It was cold when it got to me. And there was more fat on it than on me after two-weeks of non-stop holiday parties. The mashed potatoes it came with were cold, and tasted of the instant variety. And the veggies were steamed to death. TO. DEATH. They reminded me of the awful boiled vegetables I had to choke down night after night when I was a teenager and my mother insisted we have a vegetable with our meal. Bleh. (No damn wonder I take food seriously now after eating that crap for years.) Our server was really nice and tried her hardest, but I secretly suspected she knew the swill she was serving was utter crap. I'd like to think this was just an off-night because generally I love diner/family style restaurant food. But after having a bad experience here I'll probably stick to the on in Lombard for future dining departures.

This place was awesome! It all started with the free saganaki appetizer with yelp check in. We both got the Athenian Greek broiled chicken which was so tender and juicy with a lemony butter and Greek spices! I think this was the best Greek chicken I've ever had! The Greek salad that came with it was huge! The only thing that needed improvement was the Greek salad dressing. It had no flavor and was all oil. It needed vinegar, spices, or something else. Other than that, this place gets five stars for sure! We will definetly be back !

Management had some sort of financial situation that sounded a lil sleezy, but after reopening it's still the same ol' Omega. Tasty diner food, nothing too fantastic but very edible and great. Wish it was opened later into the night like it used to be. Basket of bread was always a lil' gross, but they seemed to have got rid of it now, so all is well :) Recommend it for a quick bite to eat when you're starving for some diner food

Since they re opened it is got so much better . My family & friends go to Omega often. We always ask for our favorite servers, Kerry,or Linda. Why? Because they remember us. They know what we like or dislike. They also know I cannot eat fast and they do not rush me. They always keep the coffee flowing. If Kerry or Linda are not working, we get another server are also wonderful. As far as the food, you know it will always be fresh cooked to order and always good. The only thing wrong is they need to bring back the Flan

After having been closed for a fairly considerable amount of time Omega Restaurant has re-opened. Now, before I go into my general review of Omega I should probably explain my history with this place. When I was in College just about every Friday night for at least a year or two I came to Omega. It was open 24-hours, the food was reasonably inexpensive and far better than nearby Steak N Shake. The atmosphere was nice, and the fact that they served garlic loaded foods like gyros meant it wasn't overrun with goth teenagers like at Denny's in the late hours of the night. I have fond memories of this place and all sorts of adventures were had leading up and in some cases during visits here many of which are probably not safe to repeat on yelp. In any event, after a year or two of nearly weekly visits here this Omega was replaced by Kappy's in Villa Park as the "to go to" spot on Friday's and while I would occasionally visit after that, it never regained its position. The first thing to go over about this particular Omega is the atmosphere. Something about Omega has always made it very comfortable. Comfortable to sit in booths, it being slightly darker on the inside than most diners. It's just pleasant at Omega, the ambiance really helps. With it having re-opened and apparently changed owners I feared it might be more like the Lombard or long since closed Route 59 Omega which lack that charm. Fortunately, the look and feel of this place remain the same as it was 8 or so years ago when I visited regularly. Now the most important part of any dining experience the food. I came in one morning and ordered the Gypsy Steak skillet with pancakes. Service was friendly, fairly quick and painless. The steak skillet had lots of nice pieces of steak with it. No skimping on the meat here which was nice. The eggs were well cooked with the right texture and taste, the cheese was plentiful and not too greasy. The potato's on the bottom of the skillet left a bit to be desired but overall I was pleased with my skillet. I also got pancakes with the skillet and these were large pancakes with a nice thick syrup with them. Nothing to write home about, but a fine compliment to the main course. Overall I liked Omega, perhaps more than I did prior. I think the food was slightly better than it was under the previous owners, but perhaps more importantly as I've now visited 40+ pancake houses I can appreciate the unique ambiance and calm atmosphere of this place a little more than I did in the past. I am going to upgrade my earlier scores and give four stars to Omega in Downers Grove. Good food, calm ambiance, good service at a fair price.

Delicious food, huge variety! You can get breakfast or a steak and it's all great. Everything is fresh. The daily soups are excellent and the baked goods - made right there - are outstanding, so many choices! The service is always wonderful. The atmosphere is nice - a place you can feel comfortable bringing your family too. And the prices are very good for the amount of food you get.

The food was excellent! And our server Lynda was an absolute delight! We were in from Michigan and she was very friendly and made us feel comfortable! So we came back a second time and still enjoyed every bit of it.. Or server Donna was also very nice and friendly! Highly recommend eating here!

Let me tell you a story my little Yelpers: A few months ago, the weekend we moved into our new apartment, I had a hankering for breakfast. Of course, I didn't know that Omega had closed...so I walked my happy little butt over there for some eats. Unfortunately, they were not open. So I made my way elsewhere. I've since found several breakfast locales to call home. Now the Omega has opened under new management, I felt a need to check this place out. It's not bad. But it's not memorable. It's a diner, kids. Am I having free movies or do I remember that we used to get a basket of bread (even with breakfast)? The corned beef hash and eggs does not come with hashbrowns (which is a little sad, not going to lie). The eggs were cooked to order, and cooked well. The hash was okay. The OJ left something to be desired. I don't know if it was from concentrate or what, but it left a funny taste in my mouth. The service was okay, but not fantastic. She only checked on me once, and I would have liked a refill on my water, but whatevs. It is what it is. So it was OK. I'll probably go back, if only for the convenience of being across the street.

Omega re-opened a few months ago, after being closed for awhile because the owner had some weird financial shenanigans to take care of. Just some typical Chicago goonie nonsense about some guy not wanting to pay the bills or some gambling debts. Whatever. Now that they are open again, I'm happy to report that nothing has changed! I know change is a good thing, as usually a restaurant closing indicates something was bad, but the food and service was never the issue here. My go-to menu items are the Hobo Banquet (a skillet of hash browns, eggs, and a variety of cheeses) or the chicken melt. The soups are tasty, and they make a quality cream soup. The cream of chicken rice soup can't be beat. It is sometimes a little bland, but it's nothing that a little salt or pepper can't fix. This Omega location also has a massive display of desserts including cakes, baklava, and giant cookies. They also provide a bread basket, and you are welcome to take the bread home. I can't get enough of their crunchy bread sticks! I don't care what people say about bread being germy - you're probably more likely to be in harm's way just being around human beings in general. I want my carbs, move aside! A lot of the clientele is senior citizens throughout the day or later in the night, drunk kids needing greasy grub to absorb the alcohol in their stomachs, but on a Sunday evening it was a mixed crowd of families and seniors. Omega is my favorite traditional diner style restaurant. The menu is huge, but once you find something you like, you'll be hard pressed to want to try something else. The food is THAT good.

Traditional style pancake house with a casual setting. They have successfully met my expectation of quality dining. Customer service was friendly with plenty of refills! Highly recommended for lunch, and dinner. Thank you!

2 stars only for the waitress who was really nice. The food tasted horrible and it was very highly priced

This is my Gold Standard for "Greeks" in the Western Suburbs. (For those foreigners who don't know what a "Greek" is. A "Greek" is the Chicago equivalent of a diner/coffee shop/family resto/pancake house. They all have the same vibe, practically the same menu, and the same decor. Owned by a guy named "Gus", "Nick", "Tom", or "Steve". The owners are ALWAYS there and usually take the money at the cash register-you almost NEVER pay the waitress.) The Menu is Breakfast, Burgers, Salads and always specials. You will always find some ethnic specials with a highlighted Hellenic division, and other dinner choices. Old-timers LOVE these kind of places, and with good reason. Order well and you can have a great feed without emptying the wallet. The Omega was always a fine choice when out in the Western Burbs, perfect when you had snoot fill of booze to absorb, or if you just wanted to shoot the shit with your pals. It was a shock to see it close for a period of time a while back-any evergreen that dims is cause for concern. But they opened back up, with the same old craggly Greek guy at the helm. Good for us! They put a basket of bread items on the table, gratis, with the Bialys top of the heap. They actually have the temerity to leave the butter on the table so it is soft when you slather it on the breadstuffs. Good Move! The Breakfasts are great, with my favorites being the Saganaki Omelette and the Lox Scrambled Eggiwegs. Fine Salads, too. The Burgers are big tasty and char-broiled. Grilled chicken is great. Good Coffee, too. Never had a duff meal here ever. There are a few Carps, though. Every once in awhile there is a collapse either with the waitstaff (usually pro) or the kitchen, where you wait for your food forever. Time of day has nothing to do with it. If you're there to bullshit with your pals, this isn't really a problem, but if it's late night and want to eat and run, this can suck. There's no way to tell when this is going to happen. If you're in a hurry be sure to tell the waitress. Save room, because like some Greeks, there is an extensive display of pastries, cookies pies and cakes (including Greek Baklava and sometimes Galactoboureko) at the checkout counter. All Fabulous!! If you're jonesing for the kind of Cream Puffs you get at State Fairs, the Omega's is as good as you're gonna get. Is this gourmet food? No. But it's a damned good place to eat. I throw a solid 3 stars.

I was 'forced' to eat here again. Not my idea. Takeout. Ordered Turkey on a croissant and side coleslaw. It came with salad and fries (ick) The croissant was stale and the sandwich itself is dry and bland... turkey was fine. The Salad was simple fare... tons of lettuce a wedge of tomato.. it was okay. The fries were awful again.. I don't know what they are doing with their fries but they taste just as bad as they did before the restaurant closed a while back. Coleslaw was a bit wet but okay otherwise. I would not eat here under my own steam. Lots of food and others in my party seemed to enjoy their meal but general agreement about the fries sucking.

Been going here for over 30 years. Wife (gf at that the time),Friends and I would go in after a night at Spirit..yeah,a Disco down the road. It was always great, and they would put up with our stupidity. Time passes fast and we continued to go with our kids as the grew. It had it ups and downs. However my last visit was kind of shocking. Waitresses usually upbeat, seemed down, the "greater/seater" had an attitude, our favorite waitress had left, food prices had increased and the flavor seemed to disappear. Maybe an off day. I hope so,because this place has been a part of my families life for decades. I know they can do better. I will be back. Hopefully, they go back to smiling and having a pep in their step and their old recipes.

For the THIRD time in two months - second time in two weeks - Omega on Ogden in Downers Grove was closed - without warning - before 9:30 PM., even though the posted time for closing is 12 midnight. The last time it happened, the manager was smoking a cigarette in front of the front door. He said, "We had no customers. So we closed early." I said, "Of course you have no customers. Who's going to keep coming here in the evening or at night when you keep closing early?" I said, "It's obvious you're not the owner or you'd stay open to make some money!" (I hated having to be so blunt with the guy because he seems like a good guy. But c'mon, continually closing hours before the posted time? That's disrespectful to the customers!) I will definitely not go out of my way to go back there - ever! If I happen to be driving by and they are actually open for a change, I might go back in. But I don't just happen to drive by there often - so, it's their loss. On previous visits, there were other bad scenes, too... One of the evening cooks there is really bad. Last time I was there and actually could get in the place and eat - since it was a night they didn't close early - I saw that he was the only one in the kitchen. So I had soup instead of the home-cooked meal I planned on. Great omelets at this place - when "that cook" isn't in the kitchen. When he makes them, the outside is burnt and the cheese inside isn't even melted. He's been there for years, and it's baffling to understand why they keep him. If he can't make an omlette by now - after all these years of working there in the kitchen - he's obviously in the wrong line of work! A MONTH LATER: I went back to this place about a month or so later midafternoon. My waitress was named Nicole - according to the manager on duty. After she brought my order out wrong the "third" time, I let her know that she was doing a poor job - and that I needed for her to do better. Incredibly, she swiped her hand as if to dismiss me and walked away. She never came back with the right meal - ever. When I got up and approached her about it, she said she didn't like my attitude. WHAT?!?!? She continued to sass me until the manager came over. He apologized for her doing a poor job and for her behavior. He seemed to be more than happy to tell me her name so I could complain. Again, he made sure I knew her name is Nicole. It's been months, and I still can't go back to that place after dealing with that poor excuse for a waitress.

We gave Omega a shot and it was a good choice. The portions are very large and service is very good. I've been there for breakfast and dinner and I recommend both.

Waitress was awesome kept the drinks refilled constantly but the food, oh boy. The food was sad 3 slices of french toast and four sausage links was almost 10$ which would cost less than 3$ to make was highly over priced and it tasted terrible the toast was soggy and chewy it was the worst French toast I've ever had.

If you want a place to eat out late. Go for it. Don't expect good food though. It's mediocre at best. The service is alright. When it's past 10 o'clock, your dining choices are slim. This sadly fits right in with the caliber of dining I have come to expect from restaurants that are open late.

A good Greek restaurant that we have been visiting for years, but today's visit was very disappointing. Orange juice looked more like watered down Tang than orange juice. Waitress was efficient but not at all pleasant. The dining room manager was banging tables and chairs around, he could have worked a bit more quietly. The booth seats are still terrible. All collapsed. No desire to sit in a valley.

Went there over the weekend and had the pork tenderloin sandwich with mashed potatoes. This is my 'go-to' dish so I must try it wherever I go. BEST pork tenderloin sandwich I've ever had, hands down. The mashed potatoes were bland but nothing a little pepper and salt can't fix. My fiance had the Omega skillet and he loved it as well (enough for 2 people). Carmen was our server and she was great! Although we stopped here on a whim, we will definitely be coming back intentionally in the future!

Nowadays, it's hard to find a traditional style pancake house/causal family restaurant as the key demographic is shrinking. Omega successfully meets my expectation of providing diner quality food, and from a friendly waitress who keeps my coffee topped off! Excellent restaurant to enjoy a Sunday morning breakfast/brunch!

My girlfriend(s) and I have been going here so long--- we are no longer girls! Took the celebrating birthday girl here on 9/27. Had Greek Chicken, great salad and a surprise piece of a three layer brightly colored cake that was so good. Great waitress--I wish I would have noted her name. Very attentive and a nice young lady. This is not fine dining, but it's consistent and you're able to sit and yack for as long as you want.

The food is good enough. The service is good. Nice menu selection. A solid choice for this area. Good cream of chicken and wraps. So why three stars? Because the hostess that greets us every time NEVER smiles. NEVER. Wait, I lied. She sometimes smiles when she accepts my credit card. It honestly takes more work to maintain that poker face than to crack a smile. She is generally annoyed, and I am pretty sure the only reason she works there is because she is related to the owner, because why else would you keep that as the face of your establishment?

Too pricey for a family restaurant and the food is just okay. There a plenty other establishments to go to and get a GOOD meal for less money.

After driving around all evening indecisively trying to pick a place to eat, Omega became our choice. Omega looks like your typical family style restaurant. The bakery case caught my eye when the boy and I walked in. The case looked amazing. I wanted one of everything. Bakery displays in family restaurants can be so deceiving though. I am generally disappointed by them because the cakes can look beautiful, but wind up tasting like cigarette pie. I wasn't leaving until I tasted something. I will come back to my desert choice later! The boy and I were seated, and given our menus. Our servers name was Kerry. She asked what we would like to drink, and I asked if Omega serves Coke or Pepsi. Kerry replied with Pepsi, and I said "I'm good with water I hate Pepsi." She rolled her eyes at me as if I had just told her to F*** off to which I flashed her my B**** please look, and we moved on from there. The menu was pretty extensive so it took me awhile to choose, and I took some time looking it over. Kerry came back to our table a couple of times to see if we were ready, and once she realized we were gay her attitude did a complete 360. She became much friendlier with us? She wanted to talk about pride parades and such. I was glad she had lightened up. The hilarious thing I noticed is that a couple more yelpers complained about Kerry's attitudes so now I know it wasn't just me. The boy made his Dinner choice (meatloaf), and I opted for the full slab of ribs with fries. I got soup with my dinner so I chose cream of vegetable. It was nothing special. Kind of boring actually. I put almost that whole damn basket of crackers in my soup. I have an obsession for the long skinny, buttery tasting crackers that are usually in all family style restaurant bread baskets. The dinners arrived next. I have to say I felt sorry for my boyfriend because his meatloaf didn't look very good, and he reassured me that it wasn't good.My ribs were very awesome! I was expecting to be underwhelmed, but Omega kinda shocked me. The slab was big, very flavorful, and the meat fell off of the bones. Props to the cook! The French fries were awesome! I don't know where they get them from, but they tasted great! I didn't finish my slab because I wanted to save room for desert. I went for this huge cookie that was dipped half in chocolate & the other half white chocolate. The cookie kinda reminded me of myself and my boyfriend. Me the big sexy chocolate one, and him the hot white stud! :-) I tore that damn cookie up, and then bought another one for the road. My boyfriend picked the chocolate brownie which was very boring. I felt bad for him this night because he just made bad choices all the way around. #DoBetter I will definitely come back to Omega to try other menu offerings. I do think some of the price points are ridiculous for a family style restaurant. For example a baked pancake is 16 dollars? It's German or something, but honey for that price the German better be a hot ripped guy serving that pancake shirtless. That's expensive for a pancake. I also noticed a bagel with lox spread was 15 bucks? #GurlBye I am curious to see of its really that good! Until next time ya'll!!!!!!

Still don't get the hype. Just a lot of so, so food heaped on a plate. Nothing that would ever make me want to go there. Keep thinking it will be better next time but it never is.

Hungry and out of our neck of the woods, we stopped in here to catch a quick breakfast. We recognized the Omega name and hoped it would be everything we know and love about our Omega. With a very short window of opportunity, we walk in and tell the host (owner?) that we are short on time, but big on our need for a good breakfast. He assures us that they will take care of us and quickly! We are seated and I want yogurt with granola. They don't have it. :-( But, the waitress is quick to point out other calorie friendly options. We order and wait. But not long at all. Swift like a ninja, our waitress flew past and brought us a bowl of fresh cut fruit to share with two spoons. So thoughtful! A few minutes later, our piping hot breakfast arrived just as ordered. Eggs cooked properly were the proverbial icing on the cake that morning. We ate (almost at a leisurely pace thanks to the Omega staff), we paid (and over-tipped our highly deserving waitress) and we were out of there in a flash. I even had time for a quick stop in the very clean ladies room. Will we be back? If we are in the area looking for food...absolutely. Hopefully, this review will encourage you to stop in for some fast, friendly service at your neighborhood Omega!

New management restored Omega to its breakfast place glory! Great food was always the case. Now great service is back! Management and servers appear to once again be part of the same team and working toward a common goal! So great to have Omega "back!"

I hadn't been to Omega in years until last night. Family restaurants have been going out of style for quite some time now, and Omega is a prime example. I ordered 2 eggs which seemed slightly under cooked, as well as a bagel. I asked for a side of bleu cheese dressing with the bagel, simply for the fact that I love bleu cheese. The waitress looked at me as if I were a complete nut job and stood there questioning why I needed it. Then, she looked at my friend and asked, "Is something wrong with her?". Now I would not expect top notch service from somewhere like Omega in the first place, but that was outrageous. It is beyond unprofessional to question or make me feel guilty about the order that I placed. Sure, it might be a bit out of the ordinary, but that isn't her place to make a huge deal about it. Everything in the bread basket was stale. This place really went downhill, they should shut their doors altogether.

Omega Restaurant...it is what it is. What it is: it is a family restaurant. What it is not: it is not a good family restaurant. I haven't been there in awhile and I was taken aback by the high prices. But I have to admit, they give you a lot of food. It started off with a bowl of fruit, then a bread basket, then the meal. I was stuffed. The food was average. The service was "good" if you like your servers grumpy and sluggish. To quote The Simpsons "Homer: In case you can't tell, I was being sarcastic! Marge: well duh"

I grew up going here and it's been a long time so I asked my friend to give it a try with me for our holiday dinner out. I like family restaurants a lot- for the usually friendly service, amount of food, and the relaxed pace where you can have a good conversation in a comfortable booth. Our server was attentive- sometimes a little over attentive which felt uncomfortable. I was bummed they didn't have chicken kiev (I remember ordering that years ago) but really enjoyed the Yankee Pot Roast special- the meat was tender and very tasty. My friend liked her chicken fingers and commented that they were crisp and not soggy which she liked. She got salad with her meal and I got soup- I didn't love the tomato based chicken vegetable soup but it was OK. We loved that we got dessert with our meal (our server said they would rather give it to people than throw it out because of a slower night, even for a Friday) and she loved her Chocolatina and I thought my strawberry shortcake was quite good. We were happy we could take the leftover bread from the bread basket home. I couldn't believe for all the food that was included that my bill was only $12- I hope people give big tips because the servers work very hard for such a low bill. Overall they have a wide menu, and generous portions and good prices.

After drinking too much of the old barley pop last night, my stomach was craving for something greasy to line it with. As I was in the area, Omega Restaurant was just the thing to fill the bill. Omega is an old school greek restaurant. They have a display counter featuring baked goods up front and the dining area in back is quite spacious. Menu is greek restaurant fare, good breakfast choices, meat and three's, sandwiches, desserts and all that good stuff. Wait staff tends to have surly expressions and dirty ankles underscoring how tough it is to wait on cranky old geezers and hung-over reprobates. But the service was steady and she kept my glass of diet coke full. I ordered an Omega Skillet with eggs over easy and wheat toast. It's a concoction with hash browns, onions, sausage and bacon all covered with tons of cheese and topped with eggs. Definitely a quadruple bypass waiting to happen. It's a ton of food and ended up taking half of it home. Omega also offers a basket with baked goods like rolls, muffins and breadsticks. I always found this stuff dry, like it's a way to dump the day old stuff in the display cases. About 28 bucks for two (including tip, you don't want to stiff these honey's). While I gave it a three star, I would definitely go back as they are so consistent.

Really? I ordered a chicken Fajita Wrap to go. What I received was a flour tortilla soaked in grease, lukewarm, tasteless fries, and a wedge of honey dew melon. You're going to put my COLD melon in a HOT aluminum container with a plastic lid, sealed? So when I ate my melon, it was warm. YUCK! You could have at least understood that and place the melon in a separate container, along with the sour cream and salsa, which as well, deserves to be cold, not hot. I could not finish the fries and seriously thought about eating the wrap 10-15 times. What a shame, but not a shocker. Let alone the restaurant's exterior and interior replicates a dive.
