A pleasant surprise for a small town. We spotted this place coming into town and stopped on our way out on a Friday night. I had a variety of sushi and my husband had the Bento combo. The sushi was fresh and the Bento combo abundant and good. Tempura batter was light and fresh. The place was very busy and we had a bit of a wait but very understandable. The owners were gracious to us since we had to wait. We are happy to see a small business succeed in a small town. Nice little gem of a restaurant. Can't wait to stop in and try the Thai. Note: We live over an hour away in the second largest city in the state.

The outside put me off, but when I walked in I was surprised how nice the inside is. They have a lunch menu that comes with a side and very item is filling and under $7. I had the pad kee mow and would highly recommend it. Really want to come back for the sushi! I get sushi all the time! This was one of the first menus I have come across in a long time that had unique items on it. Stop in. They also have outdoor seating.

Ordered delivery from here a couple of times. The food is Ok, but the actual ordering over the phone is my concern. I would think, that if you work in a restaurant, you would know the menu. A couple of times now, I've ordered one thing, only to get something not quite the same because whomever I talked to did not know the menu. If you don't know what is in a dish, ask someone who does.

took my mother, my wife, my father-in-law, and mother-in-law here recently. My wife is originally from Vietnam. My in-laws are visiting from Vietnam. The food was rather good. I had the Signature Seafood Dish called "Pattaya". It was good. My wife got something else. My in-laws got a seafood special from the Signature menu. In addition, we ordered the woon sen salad. My mother who always orders some kind of Thai curry, said it was good, but wished she got something more like what I had ordered, the yum woon sen salad or the "Pattaya". She liked the woon sen salad. My in-laws called the food okay. When I go back to Dixon, and I go back often, as my parents are living in Dixon area, I will plan on going back to this place. I wish them well, and hope that become successful. When I moved away from Dixon in 2003, I remember this place being some watering hole called "Anchovy's"

We used to love eating here until we ordered from them and when the delivery driver pulled up she called and said that we needed to come out to her vehicle to get our food. I didn't feel that was appropriate considering we asked for it to be delivered and so we should not have to go out to her vehicle and get it. When we called the restaurant to complain she had already called first and we could hear her calling us names and saying we were sh*tty people who live in a sh*tty neighborhood and she didn't want to deliver to us anyway. We tried to give them another chance tonight and anticipating her not wanting to walk the food up to our door i had my daughter run out to the van. She told my daughter all about what happened before and decided that she needed to get oit of the van and come up to my door to give me a piece of her mind and in front of my children! I had to tell her to leave and threaten to call the cops before she left. We will never order from there again!

We mostly get sushi when we dine here. It is average. The best I can criticize the sushi on is the use of jalapenos from wal mart. It's obvious when you sit at the bar and watch them pull the items out of the wal mart produce bag. Their jalapenos are way too hot and make whatever roll they are using it on difficult to enjoy. They also use processed American cheese on some of their rolls. The other sushi place has better rolls, but here they are more bang for your buck sized rolls. We've never had bad service here, but they could be more attentive. The atmosphere is a little uninspired. It is still the best use of the space that has gone on in that building over the last 15 years.

My girlfriend and I are both fans of Thai food, so we decided to finally try out Bangkok Gardens (obviously, as I am writing this review). We expected it to be a little busy as it was a Friday night; we were not mistaken -- every table in the place was in use after we were seated. It appeared to be a family-run shop; the young girl seated us and poured our water. My girlfriend and I decided on our appetizer -- a vegetable roll -- and our drinks. We waited about 20 minutes before anyone even came over to take our drink order, and the attention was only given to our table after some forced eye-contact. They came over right before we were about to leave. While we were waiting for our order to be taken, the youngest boy walked around aimlessly, the older boy scurried back and forth from the front of the store to the back while never looking up to make any eye contact, and the young girl was cleaning off tables as a line had grown at the front of the place. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks -- two bottles of beer. The woman that brought them over was the most pleasant of the servers we had encountered. Our appetizer came out fairly soon thereafter and was a standard vegetable roll. I can't complain, but it also wasn't anything special. Our main dishes, Pad Kee Mao and Pad See Ew were brought to our table around the 45 minute mark. By this time the place was starting to empty out a bit. The tofu was cooked very well in both dishes. Both dishes were served hot and were pretty good. However, even if the food was top-notch, it would be overshadowed by the terrible dining experience. The whole place lacked any type of organization and it showed. I would not recommend going here on a busy night based on this experience. My girlfriend and I agree that we will not be dining in here any time in the near future as there is another option in the area that tastes just as good, if not better, and has much better service.

Whenever you review one of only two Thai restaurants in a town, comparisons are inevitable. I should admit right off the bat that I'm a huge fan of Touch of Thai (the other restaurant in question). However, I'm an even bigger fan of Thai food in general, so I was excited to check out Bangkok Gardens. The Dude and I ordered crab rangoon, the Tiger roll and pad Thai with tofu. The crab rangoon arrived first and was superb. It was light and non-greasy and we got a great portion size. Next came the Tiger roll. In terms of sushi, I prefer Touch of Thai. Our roll was fine, but just...fine. Perhaps I just didn't order a very exciting roll and I should try others. When it comes to pad Thai, Bangkok Gardens is the winner. We asked for it extra spicy (an 8 out of 10), and I wouldn't say that it was spicy at all. However, once we added some hot sauce, it had a great kick to it and the sauce was yummy (no neon orange here!). The Dude's mom and dad were also with us. They ordered the chicken teriyaki and beef teriyaki, respectively, and enjoyed both dishes. I have to address the service. I don't believe our server was unfriendly. I got the impression that he was shy. However, he didn't stop by very often and didn't interact with us much, despite our table being the only customers in the restaurant at the time. When we left, however, two VERY friendly people bid us adieu - perhaps the owners? I commented to my boyfriend, "I wish they had been waiting tables! They're great!" Yes, the service could use a bit of help. All in all, our meal was delicious and a great value. I'll definitely be back, but I'm not ready to give up my Touch of Thai quite yet!

Shame that all of their reviews are filtered because most of them are very accurate. The food is good for such a small town. Bangkok Gardens is a lot better than Touch of Thai. The sushi is good but we received some not-so-fresh salmon in our Philly roll.. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of enthusiasm in our server. He didn't even ask us how we were doing. :(

Disclaimer: I would very rarely give out a 5 star. The 4 star means I will be very glad to return. My comparison is the restaurants in Ames, IA since I recently lived there and there was plenty of good Asian cuisine (including a Thai place I really liked). Had Thai tea and one of the curries (Panang) and was quite pleased with both. All 3 of us at our table really enjoyed our orders (we also had Pineapple curry and Ped Ped) Sushi was very good but I'm also pretty easy to please. Philly roll was excellent for my taste. Unagi (eel) roll was good, but I've enjoyed it more elsewhere. Overall a good value. Prices seem to be an excellent value especially the lunch specials. Service was very good, very friendly, drinks kept filled. Rather quiet, especially initially. Only minor confusion was we went in the "back" door and didn't quite know what to do with ourselves for a little while until the hostess noticed us and got us seated. Environment was fine. Simple and quiet but nice table settings
