Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Had the Monday special lamb with orzo. Came with a bowl of the lemon soup. The soup's actually creamy and not a light broth base, has bits of chicken in it. I like it and it's quite a generous portion. Lamb was tender. I was so stuffed from the lamb I almost fell asleep in the car. My friend had the chicken phyllo dough dish. She said it's good. Reasonable prices. Decent food. They have an early bird special from 3:30 to 5:30 but I don't know which days.

Demetri's dares to defy my theory about Greek restaurants (and one which applies as well, in my book, to Thai and Mexican places:) namely, that they all seem to have Template Menus. No matter which ones you patronize, the list of menu choices are all the same. On my first visit to this charming Greek village-inspired used-to-be-Shaw's-Crab-House interior, two things jumped out at me. One, the prices are very reasonable, with most entrees offered in the $9.95-12.95 range, and second, there were some very non-template plates. The lunch specials menu included a wonderful array of fresh fish choices (my dining companion ordered the snapper @ $12.95.), vegetarian moussaka, braised Colorado lamb, interesting appetizer combos, and a salad with fried calamari. The main menu includes the standard Greek choices (I had the Pastitsio) and an extensive selection of hot and cold appetizers. All the fish choices can be prepared Greek style, Mediterranean style, or pan seared. Entrees include a cup of soup. An added attraction to having lunch with a not-so-talkative pal was dining at a booth in the bar area where the owner and his friends nibbled on mezes, sipped white wine, and kvetched about old hangouts in the city, how to live in Greece part-time and a little gossip about friends and relatives. So the eavesdropping was great. Our food was fresh and full of flavors-light but filling, too. The ambiance was warm and friendly-a good place to feel like family, and the service was attentive but not obsequious. Definitely a solid lunch or dinner choice in the Northern suburbs.

Came back here with the gang and unfortunately they dropped down a notch. Had the shrimp and 8oz steak special. The shrimp was pretty good, but the steak looked and tasted like it came from Ponderosa/Sizzler; for those that can still recall those places. If you dont, then there is a reason they have pretty much all closed down. May not come back here.

Really good authentic greek restaurant. Came here on a Monday night and it was actually pretty crowded considering the city we were in. Food is delicious. We had tried 3 dips as an appetizer, 2 sea bass specials which came with the full sea bass, rice, and veggies, 2 glasses of wine, a bread basket, and one dessert which came out to be $104 including tip. Reasonably priced for so much quality food. To top it all, they have great service both during the meal and after. (I had forgotten my receipt for my expenses and they faxed it over to me within a matter of minutes). Only drawback is my friend felt a little sick from the food afterwards..and no it wasn't from overeating.

Went there twice. I would not say it is the best greek food I had (but then again I ahve to compare with actual greece ; )...) but it is really good. I would say some of their items are hit or miss but overall it is a great place and we will probably go again. Their lemon soup is amazing, gyros are very good too, the service is very friendly. Nothing bad to say agains Demtris!

I've been Chicago for about 9 mo now. And 98% of food has been amazing in and around Chicagoland. Drove from grayslake to come here for Greek. I would never come here again. The service was mediocre and the food was awful. The salad was 50% onions, the hummus had no flavor, I got the veggie kabob and it was so vinegary I sent it back along with the roasted potatoes side. It came with the salad and they actually had the nerve to charge me for a salad. Rediculous! This goes down as the worst meal since arriving here. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The only tolerable part of the meal was the glass of wine and that wasn't anything to write home about.

Wrapped salmon with spinach & feta cheese was excellent all with a very attentive staff

Three nights...three wonderful meals. I ate at the bar and by the last meal I felt like a "local". It's sometimes hard to travel on business. Finding a place like Demetri's makes it enjoyable. Back to Minnesota tomorrow... but next time I'm down here you can be sure I'll be back!

I work in the area so I decided to check this place out during lunch. The service is superb. The decor is great. The food is OK. I ordered the gyro which is one of the least expensive items on the menu. The meat tasted like it had a lot of fillers. Every other bite I kept on chewing an little rubbery pieces of cartilage. I am more than willing to give this place another shot but they need to get some lunch specials.

My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years and we can always count on them to have great food and good service. You're treated like family here. I have had just about everything on the menu and let me start with the soups, the egg lemon soup is my absolute favorite and the lentil is a close second. I've had a few of the seafood dishes, such as the salmon, halibut, white fish, and fried calamari and they are all prepared well and fresh. Their gyros plate is great and the moussaka (eggplant, potato, ground beef and lamb) is fabulous--I order it almost every time I go there. My mom is a huge fan of the lamb. The combo plate is great if you can't decide and want to have a little taste of everything. One of my favorites on the dinner menu is the fileto (beef tenderloin)--it's cooked to perfection and I love the rice and vegetables that are served with it. For dessert, you have to have the walnut cake, it's moist and yummy and melts in your mouth! The baklava is also very rich and tasty. Service is attentive, I love how the bus boys come around frequently to fill up your water, that's a huge plus for me. Their prices are very reasonable for the quality of food that they serve and their lunch specials can't be beat. Demetri's is definitely worth a visit!

My North Shore dining out meetup group had dinner at Demetri's just last week. 20 of us sat at huge rectangular table and enjoyed terrific service and the best Greek food I've tasted in a long time.
(5)Robert T.
I'm sorry to report that Demetri's is a shadow of it's former self. Living nearby, my wife and I have dined there on a regular basis for years. After our last two visits, we will not return. Tonight's visit: Small portions of mediocre food at higher prices served late and cold by an uncaring waiter. Management showed no interest.

This is by far our favorite Greek Place in the suburbs and would say that it is as good as some of the places in Greektown. We have been here quite a few times now and every time the staff is very friendly. The food is also very good. The lemon soup is great. The grilled octopus appetizer is also very tasty. The gyro meat is delicious. I always get the combination plate with the gyro meat instead of the lamb. It has all my favorite greek dishes combined. The rack of lamb with the mustard sauce on it is also absolutely delicious and always has a nice cut of meat. I recommend this place to anyone looking for great Greek food but doesn't want to drive all the way into the city for it!
(5)J S.
We were very disappointed with this place last night. A week before when we made the reservation, the waiter agreed to give us 4 separate checks for a group of 4 couples and then reneged last night saying he was too busy. The skirt steak was overdone for several of us who ordered it medium rare or rare. They certainly did not earn a repeat visit. We won't be back.
(1)Larry D.
Great meal. Had the Gyros platter, which was also a good price. All the staff was very friendly.
(4)Kirsten H.
Overall, we had a decent dinner here. My husband had a tasty gyro plate and I had my Greek standby--pastitsio, both of which were accompanied by soup. Both of the dishes and soups were good. But the thing that turned me off about this place was our experience with the appetizer. Based on some comments I saw on Yelp before heading to Demetri's for dinner, we started off with the Tiroflogeres. Almost immediately after placing the order, they arrived at our table. I took one bite and although the outside was piping hot, it was cold (or maybe even frozen) in the middle. We immediately told the server, who took the dish away. I was sure that he would bring us out a fresh dish....but he came back with the same exact food that he had just taken away (with my bite taken out) that had clearly just been popped back in the fryer or microwave, which just seems incredibly unsanitary to me. Too bad because otherwise the food was good overall!
(3)E Y.
Business lunch here that was terrific. I need to come back to sample more of their offerings. I thought their service was good and the place was just very clean to be sure. Love that about many Greek restaurants I have been to.
(4)Lee D.
Demetri was wonderful! Today was his second day and I never would've guessed. Loved the grilled octopus. So glad we actually decided to stop in. Definitely coming back: )
(4)Victoria H.
My husband and I came to Demetri's and had the best food and experience! It is a beautiful restaurant inside and out, we ate outside and it was lovely. We started off with excellent service and were brought the most delicious bread I have ever had. I got hummus as an appetizer, again, best hummus I have ever had, served with tasty bread chips. When it was time for our dinners I was so excited to try the gyro's from an authentic Greek restaurant and they were the best!!! Go to Demetri's if you want to leave with a happy, full belly :) We will definitely be coming back!!
(5)Ilias F.
This place is awesome. The lavraki fish is incredible, braised lamb is great, and their avgolemono soup and oven potatoes are to die for. However, even better, their staff is wonderful. Everyone from the owner Sotiri and his sons to the bartenders and waitstaff. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's like the Greek American Cheers!
(5)Carl F.
I was really disappointed.... perhaps I had too high of an expectation coming here. I found the appetizers to be skimpy, and the main meal was of small portions and the meat (lamb) was very, very dry with little taste. I though our waiter was somewhat offish and cold. The only good thing this place has going for it is the excellent bread. Will not be coming back here again.
(1)Ann U.
If you have had great Greek food Demetri's may fall short of your expectations. It was a hit and miss for the four of us dining. Saganaki was dry. Lemon soup not too much lemon. Lamb chops were good. Moussaka was good. I saw that it was a regular place for locals to go. The wait staff knew them and treated them as extended family. When you are treated with such warmth, the food will always taste good. If you are from out of town, a little like being outside looking in.

Never Again Rude Manager Horrible Waiters Rude Manager Did I say Rude Manager Noisy Babies Crying in every room And jerk manager says do I have children? yes I have children that if they cry I took them out of restaurant Manager... Next time apologize and move customers What a jerk Don't Go Here!!!

Not a good night at Demetri's I'm afraid. My total order was a martini with a feta stuffed olive, egg lemon soup and a gyros plate. The real problem was the gyros plate. Without dissecting the ingredients, we know a gyros is not the healthiest dish to order. What is essential is that the gyros be cooked--outer slices crisped is the standard and that failed. For my tastes, I'd stay away from the martini as ordered--too much olive juice. Egg lemon met the Greek restaurant standard. My partner had snapper in a rich tomato sauce--she was very positive about it (but this is not her Yelp review--smile.) For that matter, other dishes looked appetizing and the restaurant has fit the bill in the past. We've been here before and enjoyed. This night too, the restaurant had happy, prompt service and the décor did its job of taking you to a far away land. But meet me half-way on the 'slightly' indulgent gyros--take the few minutes to properly prepare it!

Its always good when I go. Always ask the waiter whats their speciality and the feedback on the specials before ordering anywhere and don't listen to the nancy's below complaining we've dined on odd days, busy days, etc its been good.

Was in Deerfield from New York City on Biz. Some nice wines. Lemon Soup was AWEOME! Had the Chopped Greek salad, was decent. Would defiantly come back for dinner. Owner was nice.

I was in town on business and stopped in on a rainy night. The ambience is charming, and I felt welcomed. I started with a cucumber vodka collins. It was a delightful change of pace. I then had the sampler of scordalia, tzatziki, and melitzanosalata with toasted bread. All were quite delicious, but I am obsessed with the scordalia, which is a roasted garlic potato spread. I had the house special which was a chicken breast stuffed with yummy spanakopita filling, and topped with a lemon creame sauce and served with a fragrant rice. It did take some time for the meal, but what else was I going to do, go back the hotel. I truly enjoyed the experience, and will be stopping back in again.
(4)Bob Z.
I really enjoy this place. Not pretentious, great service, good food and always feels like your eating a family meal. I eat here with friends from work all the time. We love sampling the appetizers and having a good bottle of wine. Usually we go with Roditis. The whole fish is always great. All the specials are always fresh and done very well. I highly recommend the place.
(4)Ben X.
Went to eat here since it was the closest thing from my hotel. Service was great but unfortunately the food....not so much. I had the octopus which was overcooked and then had the Chicken Kabobs which were flavorless and to top if off under cooked. I just stopped eating when I saw the middle had some pink in it.
(2)Jim L.
Visiting area with family for business/relocation search and stopped here on a whim. Wanting to give our eight year old son a broad taste of Greek food, we bought several hot appetizers and dinners. My son ordered a cheese burger! The appetizers were exceptional as were the meals... The cheese burger was left uneaten as my son loved the well prepared Gyros appetizer so much! All in all this was a very good and fairly priced meal with exceptional service. Highly recommended!
(4)Jessica F.
The most delicious greek food I've ever had! Truly a hidden gem! The service is exceptional!
(5)Vasil C.
Best Greek good in Chicago. Fresh and greatly prepared. On any special occasion I make a point to drive an hour just to have their food. Their waiters are excellent some of the nicest waiters I have ever come across. Keep up the good work Demetris restaurant!
(5)Nik A.
Simply - horrible. The place was extremely dirty, dirty plates, glasses of water. But the most disgusting - huge dead fly in my food which did not surprise me since live flies where flying all over the place. That was the first and last time I visited the """"restaurant""""
(1)Dylan M.
Nice restaurant. The food here is good and the setting is nice. My biggest complaint is the staff is always rude and pushy. They need to work on there customer service. It's always the same. Rude waiters and average service. It's too bad because the food is good.
(3)Bill Y.
Disappointed. I've enjoyed previous meals at Demetris. I recently took my mom there for their early bird special (she's in her 80's, it's part of her lifestyle). And it was a good deal, assuming you want to eat really early; about $14 bucks for soup, entrée, drink and desert. Here's the problem. Desert was a baklava/walnut cake combo. Sounds go to me. However, my mom has a nut allergy. So she asked for a scoop of ice cream instead. The request was denied. You see, there are no substitutions when ordering from the early bird menu. Really? You can't serve a simple scoop of ice cream for desert? So, for not having a few dessert choices, for serving only a dish some can't consume (a nut allergy is pretty common), and for disappointing an old lady, 1 star for you.
(1)Alena T.
Bad quality food. Not fresh. Service is mediocre . First bad experience with the Greek Food in the Chicago land area.
(1)shelley s.
This was my first time at Demetri's. I was extremely disappointed. The saganaki was so salty, it was like eating an ocean. I had the chicken kabob and I felt the chicken was very dry.
(2)Julia L.
This place looked cozy and promising when we sat down, but turned out to be really bad. Bland, unappetizing, overly salted, and overpriced for what you get. Taramasalata was mushy and tasted like they put baking soda in it, as it would fizz in your mouth when you took a bite. The lemon rice soup was literally Campbell's chicken and rice with a squeeze of lemon juice. Sautéed swordfish was noticeably not fully thawed prior to them cooking it. The sauce on top was so salty, I could barely eat the fish. The veggies that came with the meal were straight out of the microwave. Two flies were buzzing around us during the meal. Not good Greek food at all. Also to top things off, I had a horrible stomach ache after the meal. Yikes.

We were looking for a place to grab dinner on a Wednesday evening. I Yelped this place and despite the very mediocre reviews and occasional complaints about the service, we decided to give Demetri's a try.... I should have followed the reviews and gone elsewhere. We actually had a very good first impression when we walked in.... Nice ambiance, great menu, and prices seemed fair. Then it all went downhill. Terribly slow service AND screwed up our orders. They brought my wife the wrong salad, AND wrong appetizer, AND my medium-rare filet came back well done - probably b/c it had been cooking under a heat lamp for 25 minutes while they corrected their screw-ups on the other parts of our order. I contemplated sending my dinner back but it was a school/work night and I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for my food. I noticed the bar tender and at least 2 servers were indulging from behind the bar which probably explains their lack of attention. We won't be back, which is unfortunate because the place has potential.
(2)Shana J.
Great waitstaff --- but there was a fly in my salad AND an ant in the salt shaker.
(3)Jeff M.
Very nice Greek food. I had soup and grape leaves stuffed with lamb. Grilled veggies were also very good. Atmosphere was good and service was great.
(4)Diana P.
We keep coming back because there are not many GREEK restaurants around but I can't say this place is AMAZING, just good. They throw wonderful parties though in their private rooms and that's why I gave them a 4 star. Food is fresh, tasty and everyone leaves full and happy. Prices are reasonable too.

Our family of four went to Demetri's for dinner. As we enter the building, the foyer smelled like bad plumbing from the bathroom. Yuck. Host was jolly and friendly but the waitress seemed extremely unhappy, and she forgot to bring our drinks. My husband ordered the portobello mushroom and spinach app which lacked salt and the mushroom had an un-fresh texture to it. One of the daily soup was "fish chowder"...which I should have known not to order; will any restaurant ever put fresh fish in their 'daily special' fish chowder? NO. Let's just dump in whatever that was left over from last night. Anyway the soup was basically a weird tasting concoction composed mostly of corn starch and water. Yuck. I had one taste and asked Ms. Unhappy Waitress to take it and she did not act one bit surprised. You know it is a bad sign when your kids' meals look and taste better than what you ordered. My kids got chicken with lemon sauce and rice, and chicken fingers. Both palatable. My husband got the New York strip which was properly cooked to medium rare. But unfortunately the quality of the beef is sub-par, more like diner quality rather than prime quality. I got their red snapper with olives and caper sauce. Also lacked salt and while the fish was not fishy, the texture was rather mushy. Total meal was $80. Obviously overpriced. We will never return.
(2)Irene S.
Good food (except the lentil soup undercooked); very attentive server; But in a discussion with the owner over getting 2 of the early bird menus and one full menu item (red snapper), for 2 people dining in, and asking to get one of the early b. to take home or take the leftovers home (which everyone does), the owner who came to our table quickly told us he makes the rules ( pay full price for all the early b. you take home, even a partial!and if we don't like his rules, to leave and showed us the door! Unacceptable! That even though he recognized us we are repeat customers! Were, because we are not going back!
(1)Erika C.
I was up north for a business planning workshop and decided to stop in for lunch. Wasn't too impressed. The bread was on the stale side. The water had an odd flavor and the restaurant itself had an odd smell. I was immediately turned off by all of this which is probably the reason why I didn't enjoy my meal too much. Too bad, I truly enjoy Greek food, just not at this place. Service was poor as well.
(1)Julia S.
There were about 20 of us here for a *Russian style surprise birthday party (* Russian style - meaning we were able to negotiate BYOB hard liquor service). Aside from the most attentive and pleasant waiters and waitresses, the ambiance and food went straight to the heart. We basically pre-ordered every hot and cold appetizer on the menu. Food was coming out for the entire 5 hour dinner duration. Desert and greek coffee were yummy to the tummy. Everyone loved the experience and my city attitude towards suburgatory eateries has been humbled. There was a nice lady at the entrance selling home made banana bread and cookies. I bought these and they were gone with the record of 1.5 days. Hold on to the flaming cheese - I'm coming back here soon!
(5)Michael G.
Sometimes, some dishes are OK, but in general the preparation, taste, and presentation of food is inconsistent and just not good enough. Meanwhile the service is very inconsistent and sometimes at a very poor quality level. The culture there does not seem customer focused at all. I find the lack of service mindset there to be the biggest issue. When I have had to present any issue to a server or manager it is a definitely a disappointment for me waiting to happen. Instead of gracefully taking ownership and fixing it, they express obvious inconvenience to them and even waste more energy being defensive and making excuses, rather than just fixing the problem. It is really a bad experience, as they get all stressed out and angry when things go wrong due to their own mistakes, and they are just not good at fixing issues. They just make the customer more uncomfortable in such a situation. I got to a point that I am just afraid to go there, as I know too many things are bound to go wrong, if that happens, they are not capable to turn things around, and that it will most likely be a disappointing experience there in one way or another. For a business that has been there a while, they do not seem to understand customer service very well. I am kind of surprised they survive in the demanding Chicago market. I wish they would improve so they could be a better restaurant, but I am just not holding my breath on that one. I have decided not to return, and I recommend going to other better restaurants in the area.
(1)John E.
Best Greek food in the burbs, bar none. Not sure about some of the negative reviews, I've been here countless times and the food and service has been superb. Their paidakia is some of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend.
(5)Ilya T.
By far the worst restaurant I've ever been to without any exaggeration! The place wouldn't let me use my groupon for their terrible excuse for Greek food, and after I asked to speak with the manager to try to get an explanation, he got very confrontational with me and it almost got very ugly. This place knows absolutely nothing about customer service and their food is a pathetic excuse for Greek food compared to the thousand other Greek restaurants around Chicago. Absolutely awful, avoid at any cost!!
(1)Rob W.
Went back to Demetri's after a 4 year absence since my first visit, when I left uninspired by their food. Decided to go because it's about the closest Greek restaurant to where I live and I had a hankering for spinach pie. This time it was better. I ordered the lemon soup and was quite pleased - nice consistency and great flavor. Then came the spanakotiropita. They don't give you a slice off a larger sheet like most Greek restaurants - instead this was more like two decent sized individually made pieces. The phyllo sheets were lightly baked and not as oily as one would see in most spinach pies. While I've had better spanakotiropita, this was good and refreshingly different. The mixed vegetables - julienned carrots and squash was fresh and tasty - a pleasant change from the canned peas that most Greek spots offer up as veggies. The potatoes were fair at best. If I could, I'd give it 3.5 stars, but the bartender who served me was nice so I'll round up to 4. I won't be running back there tomorrow, but I know it will be much sooner than 4 years before I return for another visit.

My wife and I went to Demetri's yesterday for lunch. We had never been before. We started our lunch with the Tiroflogeres (Kasseri cheese wrapped in filo & fried) appetizer for $7.00. It was delicious, but we thought there could have been more for $7.00. For our main meals, I had the Pastitsio for $9.99 and my wife had the Combination Plate (a sampling of Moussaka, Leg of Lamb, Dolmades, potatoes, rice pilaf and vegetables) for $10.99. I thought the pastitsio was very tasty and my wife really enjoyed her meal, especially the lamb which she said was very tender. Our meals came with a lemon soup which was also very enjoyable. They also served some bread prior to our meal, which we thought was pretty mediocre. Overall, we both enjoyed our lunch and plan on coming back the next time we get a craving for some Greek food. The food was very fresh and tasty, the service was very good, and we were both full for the rest of the day.
(4)Cassie S.
My whole office went here for lunch for my boss' birthday. Actually surprised I haven't been here sooner, since it's across the street from my office, but I still hold a grudge against the general area for the (current) lack of Ed Debevic's. But I digress... Service was awful. Took us FOREVER to get a waiter and then, after we ordered it was 45 minutes to get our food (and no one ordered the Athenian chicken which does take a long time to make). My food was good - spanikoteropita (sp?) with a nice side of veggies. Almost everyone enjoyed what they ate. Good portion sizes (and I liked that mine was actually 2 separate pies - made for perfect leftover planning!). Only other complaint is the prices. Why on earth are their lunch specials more expensive than the regular menu?
(3)Michelle E.
Came here for a working lunch. At first glance, I wasn't expecting much, since the place seemed to be packed with senior citizens. Usually that's a sure sign of soft, bland food. Everything on the menu sounded delish! (Or maybe I was just starving). I was also beginning to notice that most of the waitstaff was Greek, which made me think that this place could be pretty authentic. The lemon soup with chicken and rice looked very mediocre when it arrived at the table - like blah wedding food. I was pleasantly surprised by a zippy, zesty, lemony flavor! Yum! Heck, even the bread was good. I was torn between so many different things on the menu - the moussaka and pasticcio both sounded tempting, but I ended up going with the gyros platter, which was recommended by our waiter. WOW! Super good. A huge pile of perfectly carved thin slices of lamb, some pieces with nice crispy edges atop a nice grilled pita. The best part was easily the tzatziki sauce, oh yummo. You could tell that it was homemade - nice and chunky, with bits of cucumber and fresh dill. No wonder they charge $1.25 for extra sauce! Great place! Give it a try if you're in Deerfield.
(4)Cynthia E.
Bland, overcooked everything- rice, veg, salmon, chicken. A very white-looking plate-add some color and texture, people! And the salad- I've been to Greece and don't remember iceberg lettuce there.
(2)Melanie V.
"Honey-licious." That is how our server described the baklava. And, boy, was it ever! Yummy. Two pieces for $4 - not bad! The spanakopita was really good - there was more spinach than feta in these, so I really enjoyed them. You have enough left over to eat for another meal! It came with veggies and soup, too. Our server was delightful and he totally lifted our spirits after a harsh morning at work. ;) Totally appreciated.
(4)Gina T.
The service was just OK. If it wasn't for the man refilling our waters and clearing our plates off the table, the service would have been terrible. Our waitress took forever (7-10 minutes) to even greet us. The lemon soup was kind of gross and had a bitter taste like the white part of the lemon/ nail polish remover. I had their meditteranean chicken and that was bad. Although the chicken was moist it tasted burnt. It also had black olives, which were supposed to be kalamata, canned tomatos, a couple capers, and overly seasoned with oregano. My sisters both had the skirt steak and 1 was returned because it was so fatty and difficult to cut through. Also, on the side they served boiled carrots and huge chunks of broccoli- both poor options for a side dish at a Greek restaurant. I have had way better at nearby Greek fast food type places.

I first came to this place a couple of years ago for a family get together. I liked it a lot then. That time I had only tried the chicken, rice, and roasted potatoes and that was enough to be hooked. My boyfriend brought me here again a couple of nights ago for a nice dinner. We ordered Saganaki (seared cheese with lemon and brandy) and Tiroflogeres (a Greek cheese fried in a flaky type of pastry crust). Both appetizers were a little pricy for the small amount - but both were also delicious. The Saganaki is prepared right in front of you. They sear the cheese somehow with a 3 ft. flame... absolutely loved it. The Tiroflogeres only came with 2 ..but nonetheless, delish. My boyfriend ordered the Mediterranean chicken which he loved. It came with greens and rice. I stuck with a vegetarian dish of noodles and a brown butter sauce. I did not like my entree. It didn't have any flavor and just tasted like plain noodles with oil on them to me. Not blaming the restaurant, just a poor choice on my part. :) We also ordered a side of their delicious roasted potatoes so that gave me some of the flavor I was looking for (that and the rice I snuck from my boyfriend's plate). And to top it off, we shared a delicious dessert - baklava. The waiter was extremely friendly (as was the waiter the first time we came). They kept our water glasses full and our bread stash replenished. The food was amazing and the restaurant itself has a lovely feel. I will for sure be coming back.

I love the parrot. The Owners have a Scarlet Macaw that live out on the porch during the summer. He'll talk to you and dance for attention. The staff has been pretty good and attentive. I can't say I ever really felt I was wanting for a drink, or waited too long to order or get the bill. I ordered saganaki for an appetizer. Unfortunately ours was pretty overdone. Instead of being lemony and gooey, it was crusty and hard. Boo. For an entree I had a tomato and pepper stuffed with rice and meat. It was lovely. I usually go for dolmades, but this was a great alternative. Demetri's isn't the best greek food I've had, but greek town is a long ways away.
(3)Mike B.
Had dinner there last night with my wife and it was awesome. Saganaki was delicious. Grilled Calamari was excellent. Our main courses blew us away. I had the Colorado Braised Lamb, which was so good I almost ordered another round. My wife couldn't stop herself from continuously stealing some from my plate. We plan to go back again and again.
(5)Harini P.
The food here is really good. You don't realize that this place is actually attached to another eatery, a bit confusing but so worth it! The lovely pillows of stuffed spinach and cheese are amazing. I love to get several orders of these and friends and family are always happy for leftovers. Give it a try, something different to mix it up for the taste-buds.
(3)Darlene L.
Bravo Demetri's. Everything here was a hit for us. The bread arrived promptly and was fresh and delicious. The Greek salad was crisp and tasty. And oh what fabulous fish and Mediterranean chicken. The chicken is prepared with tomatoes and capers with rice and spinach on the side. Loved it. The baklava hits the spot with good coffee. Also service was efficient and friendly.
(5)Maya P.
Ok greek food.. Not the best. Portions were small. Some of the seafood was burnt. The chicken was a little too burnt. Salad and break was good. Mousaka was amazicle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wouldn't come here again. Ok food. Overpriced.

Used to come here when I worked in the area. I love Greek food, and this place is OK, but not a destination spot.

I was very disappointed the last time I was here, which was the second week of Jan. The food was very disappointing. This place used to have really good food. I have been frequenting this restaurant since 2004. Sadly I will not be going back again because of the terrible dining experience. Does anybody know if the management changed hands? I was here with my parents, it was a bon voyage dinner in honor of them. We got the lamb sausages and grilled octopus. The sausages were overgrilled as in almost burnt, the Octopus was over cooked; very, very chewy to say the least. For the main course I got the Bacalao, which was horrible as was the accompaning Skordalia. I mean how can one screw up Skordalia?? Mum got the leg of lamb which was like leather, Dad got the roast lamb, again very bad. Hubby got the lamb chops which were cooked just right, but lacked flavor. The main courses come with Soup or Salad, I got the Avgolemono soup, which was DEFINATELY thickened with corn starch and not egg yolks. The lazy ass chef didn't even bother to wipe the bowl clean of the soup drips. My dad said his fish soup was very good....I think he was just trying to be nice. The salad was so pathetic, just a crumble of feta...WTH, this is a greek restaurant for crying out loud. The flan for dessert was ok, I have had better. I am very sad that I won't be going back here, it used to be a very nice restaurant...its just terrible now.
(1)Vick C.
To be honest, I'm not a big fan of Greek food, but Demetri serves decent Greek food, I had lamb last time and the taste was pretty rich. I would say was average. I like their flaming cheese appetizer, service was good, dining room was pretty clean, I like their fireplace it really make the atmosphere more cozy.
(3)Inna T.
Surprisingly good all around. Great service.
(4)sheldon g.
upon being seated it was about 15 minutes when we asked a waiter to get us a drink. he was not our waiter.. Our food was fair at best, my wife had a shrimp dish and I had greek chicken which was very small and had no flavor, also somewhat tough. will not go back, also ordered lima beans, came cold did send them back to be heated. they were very good. sheldon g deefield
(1)Richard O.
I really like the dining room there is a big fireplace in the center with a stylish decor and comfortable seating and fairly quiet it was busy the night I went. The cheese appetizer was very good the waitress had lit it on fire and served it warm delicious. The dinner was good but not great maybe I am not a huge fan of Greek food however I can tell it was quality. The service was average and the food was average. The restaurant is nice I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
(3)Mark T.
Great gyros and salads here. Plus, when we asked the guy at the main desk if he would call a cab for two of us to meet colleagues at the restaurant Carsons, he drove us there himself instead! Now that's customer service. And we learned he was the owner. Fantastic!
(5)Bobbi S.
Wednesday lentil soup yummy. Early bird special price can't be beat. Nice portions even tho it is an early bird. The fish is always fresh, I've been there enough to say that. The salmon is always made to perfection. Service is top notch, always willing to make it your way. Owners are always there to greet you as you come in and thank you when you leave. Sure there might be something on the menu that isn't the best, but over all, this place rocks.
(4)Anne A.
Wish I had read the YELP reviews before going here on the ranting and raving of friends who had been here last year. Service was terrible (never offered us a drink!) and the seating is very crowded which makes for a noisy dining experience. The lemon chicken soup lacked the zesty lemon flavor to make it authentic with very little chicken. I had the Pastichio which tasted like it had been sitting for hours then reheated. Prices are reasonable but I would pay more for better Greek food.
(2)Jeremy B.
I made a reservation here to celebrate my wife's birthday. When we were seated, I returned to the host stand and specifically asked him to tell my server that it was my wife's birthday. The server seemed to be easily distracted, and didn't come around much. He never did a thing about my wife's birthday. I was hoping that she would get recognized, and that maybe a lit candle would be placed on the dessert we ordered (paid for, of course). Nothing. As I left, my wife was distracted, so I mentioned to the host that our server did nothing. He said, "really?" and proceeded to briskly walk away without so much as an apology. My wife was deflated, as I could tell she felt that the whole experience wasn't very special. I told her when we left that I'd mentioned it was her birthday, but the host and/or server just didn't care enough to say or do anything. Either way, it still made me look like a jerk of a husband. The food, as compared to some other local Greek restaurants (ie. Greek Islands, Greek Village Tavern, Opa!) was good, but just nothing special. It's pretty likely that we will not return to Demetri's.
(2)Elena G.
Wonderful service and delicious food. I can not wait to go back!!!
(5)Diana P.
We keep coming back because there are not many GREEK restaurants around but I can't say this place is AMAZING, just good. They throw wonderful parties though in their private rooms and that's why I gave them a 4 star. Food is fresh, tasty and everyone leaves full and happy. Prices are reasonable too.
(4)Julie S.
(1)Dave S.
Wrapped salmon with spinach & feta cheese was excellent all with a very attentive staff
(4)Gary B.
(5)Miguel B.
(3)Buzzy R.
My North Shore dining out meetup group had dinner at Demetri's just last week. 20 of us sat at huge rectangular table and enjoyed terrific service and the best Greek food I've tasted in a long time.
(5)Yvonne Y.

Business lunch here that was terrific. I need to come back to sample more of their offerings. I thought their service was good and the place was just very clean to be sure. Love that about many Greek restaurants I have been to.

(3)shelley s.
This was my first time at Demetri's. I was extremely disappointed. The saganaki was so salty, it was like eating an ocean. I had the chicken kabob and I felt the chicken was very dry.
(2)Bill Y.
(1)Julia L.

(2)Christine K.

The most delicious greek food I've ever had! Truly a hidden gem! The service is exceptional!

Best Greek good in Chicago. Fresh and greatly prepared. On any special occasion I make a point to drive an hour just to have their food. Their waiters are excellent some of the nicest waiters I have ever come across. Keep up the good work Demetris restaurant!

Simply - horrible. The place was extremely dirty, dirty plates, glasses of water. But the most disgusting - huge dead fly in my food which did not surprise me since live flies where flying all over the place. That was the first and last time I visited the """"restaurant""""

Nice restaurant. The food here is good and the setting is nice. My biggest complaint is the staff is always rude and pushy. They need to work on there customer service. It's always the same. Rude waiters and average service. It's too bad because the food is good.

Bad quality food. Not fresh. Service is mediocre . First bad experience with the Greek Food in the Chicago land area.

Went to eat here since it was the closest thing from my hotel. Service was great but unfortunately the food....not so much. I had the octopus which was overcooked and then had the Chicken Kabobs which were flavorless and to top if off under cooked. I just stopped eating when I saw the middle had some pink in it.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of Greek food, but Demetri serves decent Greek food, I had lamb last time and the taste was pretty rich. I would say was average. I like their flaming cheese appetizer, service was good, dining room was pretty clean, I like their fireplace it really make the atmosphere more cozy.

upon being seated it was about 15 minutes when we asked a waiter to get us a drink. he was not our waiter.. Our food was fair at best, my wife had a shrimp dish and I had greek chicken which was very small and had no flavor, also somewhat tough. will not go back, also ordered lima beans, came cold did send them back to be heated. they were very good. sheldon g deefield
