Love the burger and fries. Great service.

The service here is absolutely terrible. $3.99 for a small salad with iceberg lettuce and $3.99 for chicken on that salad. Would have been fine except the food tasted terrible. As if that wasn't bad enough, the manager we dealt with, Humberto or Umberto was very unprofessional. We asked to have the charge removed for the bad food (which was not even eaten) and he removed half. We asked to have the full amount removed and it was only after he started an argument, rolled his eyes, and threw things down in front of us at his computer station that we had the other half removed. When he came back, I confronted him about his attitude and told him that the proper way to satisfy a guest who was not happy with your food was to remove the cost of their uneaten meal, he repeatedly kept arguing with me and rolled his eyes, then rushed off in a hurry without finishing the conversation. This place may be able to fill a dining room now, but with the attitude they have, especially this manager, they will be out of business in no time.

For a dive bar, very good. Decent glass of malbec on special for $6 and a huge portion of nachos shared among 3 of us (watch out vegetarians/vegans as there is chili and cheese on them that is impossible to pick around). Very pleasant and quick service.

This place has huge, tasty burgers and chicken sandwiches! They come out the kitchen pretty quickly too! I only knocked off a star because our waitress was a bit rude and not everyone at my table had silverware for the longest time. We ended up grabbing some off the table next to us. Maybe the waitress was having a rough night? Not sure, but my friend didn't need to be barked at when she requested separate checks for all of us... and the request was made before we had all ordered. That's better than if we had told her after we ordered, ate, and finished right? Other than that, everyone else was super friendly!

Ah, well. I can't say the second time here was as great as the first. It was just me and a friend, and the place got packed. So the main (but not only) reason I'm really taking off a star is that when it got packed, the time taken to serve each table went waaaay down. Also, I got a burger done medium, and it was closer to medium raw. Blackies needs to hire themselves a little extra waitstaff. Also, that could have just been a coincidence on the meat. I don't know. Last time I went was so awesome, so why was this time a little diff? Eh, oh well. Still worth going. Very big burgers, although the fact that fries are separate/extra is a little wacky. I got...umm, their philly cooper and minestrone soup. The Philly was nice sized, albeit dripping a bit as above. Soup...normal. I guess it just wasn't great or something. I mean this was like vegetable soup of the can almost (in flavor). So I'm not turned off to the place, but definitely not main priority to eat at.

Great service and food is awesome as well. My friends and I sat at the bar and were helped out immediately.

I went there for a liquid lunch during a work training session in the area.. I was a little confused... Nice, upscale decor and waiters.. but nothing but burgers and sandwiches on the menu? I split and app with my guest and sipped my beer. It was okay, but I can't see myself rushing to go back anytime soon.

One of my favorite places to get a good burger. So, don't come here for a salad - you are just cheating yourself. Flavorful burgers at fairly decent prices (compared to other "high end" burger locals like Hackney's and Charlie Beinlich's) I recommend also getting the side of chips can be easily split among the table. This place can get packed at peak dinner hours so just grab a drink at the bar and hang out. Trust me the burgers are worth the wait. Service can be slower as other reviewers have mentioned but it never has been so bad as to dampen my experiences here.

We were 6 weekly patrons of Boston Blackies until our disastrous dinner last night. We ordered 5 chicken dinners and 1 chicken breast sandwich. 6 chicken dinners came out---2 missing the correct sides- one covered in sauce that was supposed to be on the side-1 dinner missing a drumstick-several overdone and dried out dinners, plus no chicken sandwich! We ordered side salads and received entrée salads. The manager (Alberto) claimed we got what we ordered and proceeded to read us the order ticket. They apparently drained off the sauce on the one chicken dinner that was supposed to be plain, so under the chicken there was still plenty of sauce. When we complained the manager insisted it was fine when it came out of the kitchen so I must have added the sauce. He didn't explain why I would wait 20 minutes for plain chicken; receive it after most people at the table were almost done with dinner, just to pour it back on my chicken. Everything was our fault. We received 20% off and coffee for this unbelievably dreadful dinner and will not step foot in this JOINT! The manager is an idiotic jerk!

A great place for many comfort foods. Excellent chicken, burgers, hot dogs, wings, etc. They also have a good beer selection. The service can be slow at time, but this is all about the comfort food of making you feel good. The hot dog bite appetizer and the apple slices with caramel will remind you a bit of your youth in a casual, but nice atmosphere.

Went to one of the Blackies in Chicago last year, but I've been to the Deerfield one twice recently. This one is a lot bigger space-wise, but is just as awkwardly cramped as the one downtown. Cost is an issue here if you're not careful...the fries cost a $2 premium, and some of the sandwiches already come with onion rings. Also, the burgers are so huge that you probably won't have room for much else anyway. That's a good thing, since these are some relatively pricey burgers. Salads are expensive too if you want some meat on it. The food itself is delicious and juicy, and it's hard to go wrong with any of the items there. I had the guac burger and the patty melt, both leaving me quite satisfied. One of my co-workers has consistently been getting the bbq pulled pork sandwich, which I may have to try next time I go. As everyone else has noted, the service is pretty disappointing. I know that it's lunch rush and that the place is crowded, but a place like this should be ready to handle that every day. I'll be back for the food, but a good restaurant should be more than that.

Stopped in the other night to chat with an old girlfriend. The bartender really took care of us. He had them remake my burger because it was too pink for me and gave me a new side which I had already ate. Drinks are on the strong side the way I like them so cheers to that! Home fries are a bite too oily for my taste but the wings and hot dog bites were perfect. Thanks so much for a delicious meal!

There's a reason that this place is packed around 5:30-6:00. The "blue hairs"*, as my mother calls them, know a good thing when they find it - fresh food at reasonable prices, served with efficiency and good attitude. You can't go wrong with a burger, but recently our server recommended the grilled whitefish, and it was excellent. Lightly seasoned and served with a mountain of steamed broccoli, it was simple and delicious, and generously portioned. The front of the restaurant is definitely better than the back, but at twilight, you might be fighting a few wily grandmas and grandpas to get a good table. Don't be fooled by their humble demeanor - they're tougher than they look! *refers to the slightly blue-tinted hair that older women get at the salon.

A WARNING ABOUT TAKE-OUT I hate giving this place a bad review because the food is solid. I've eaten in and done take-out. Sure, the place is expensive, but the burgers are very solid and huge. Of course, when the burger and fries costs over $10, my expectations are high. And when I order a burger for take-out and arrive home to find it cooked really wrong, they need to make it right. (Ever since my wife had baby #3, she wants her burger cooked through all the way. No pink, please.) So, when we arrived home with the burger to find it quite red inside, I would have expected them to make it right. Now, there are a lot of ways they could have done this. Maybe a sincere "my bad" would have been a good start. Instead, the mouthy manager said, and this is a close quote, "I packed it myself and it was fine." Huh? I had no intention of driving back in 20 degree weather to prove to them it was on the raw side. Can I email you a picture of the bleeding burger, I asked. Nothin' doing. My options were bring it back, and she'll make me another one IF she thinks it wasn't cooked correctly. Or, she'd give me 10% off my next order. Seriously? Let me talk to the manager, please. Oh, you are the manager. Ok, please have the day manager call me. I'm still waiting. So, I microwaved the burger for my wife to eat. Ugh. I really like the food here. But they SERIOUSLY annoyed me with their attitude when something went wrong. Lousy lousy service. And attitude. Take out from this place at your own risk. I'll be calling Trax next time I want to bring in a burger.

This place is pretty gross. We arrived late afternoon and there were only 2 other tables taken in the restaurant so it was pretty empty. We each ordered chicken sandwiches which took about 25 minutes until they arrived. The first concern is that the fries that came with my sandwich were cold which made my think that my lunch was sitting out for a while. I went to cut into the sandwich and ended up needing a steak knife it was so tough to cut. It was gross and I ended up sending it back. Since lunch yesterday my fiance and I have both felt sick. I would NOT recommend this restaurant.

i went for a birthday party. didn't have any food, but the bar service was top notch. great atmosphere. good times indeed. the beer flowed like wine and the beautiful women instinctively flocked like the salmon of capistrano. not a fan of their house beer. wasn't my cup o tea.. or mug o beer in this case.

Delicious burgers. That's all you really need to know. This isn't a service restaurant, it's a burger joint, and the quality of the product is very high.

I went here with my parents and I was not happy with what happened. First, I think out waitress was on something. She was extremely spacy and it came through in the fact that so many things got messed up. First, I ordered grilled onions on my burger and they ended up on my husbands chicken sandwhich (who does NOT like onions). My mom ordered a hot dog with cheese and there was no cheese. When she asked for it, they brought her cold cheese and didn't offer to warm it like she had expected. The kicker of this trip though was that there was NO SOAP in the men's bathroom. My husband was disgusted by this and asked twice before they did anything about it. My burger was ok, though it was overcooked for medium. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Went in with a friend while she was on her (hour long) lunch break. We were seated relatively quickly, but that was the end of anyone paying attention to the fact that we were there. We didn't see our waiter for more than five minutes (and I mean, he went and hid in the back room after taking our orders, so we actually didn't see him waiting on us or on anyone else the entire time we were there, until the very end when we pleaded with a busboy to go get our waiter; that we really needed our check) and I really doubt seeing myself go back there. I'd much rather go to Woodfire Chicken across the street than go to this Boston Blackies location...I'll just go to the one closer to my work instead...it's much better.

Good burgers and awesome cottage fries. The portions are huge, all sandwiches can be easily shared by 2 people. The service is good though it can get busy at times. I recommend this place for an affordable, quick bite to eat...as long as you don't mind sitting amongst a "mature" crowd (remember, it's affordable here). Not too much for vegetarians to choose from, salads or a veggie sandwich. Also, the beer list is disappointing, only 2 beers on tap, I'd be happy if they had a few more! Dessert was good, try the oreo ice cream cake!

Best salad on the planet is the garbage salad with buffalo chicken. Get two blue cheese dressings on the side cause you gonna need them. Amazing flavor. Best Buffalo Chicken you'll ever have.

I ate at this location a long time ago and remember it being good, so when I saw a groupon, I bought it right away. Of course, like many of my groupons, it expired. I ended up going to this place to use my total value paid about a month ago. I ordered "build a burger" and my boyfriend got the half broasted chicken. We loved the food, but hated the ambiance of the place. First, we were alone because we came at that weird time of 3 pm, and second, this place gives off a way to classy feel for a restaurant located in a plaza off of Lake Cook. Also, the wait for the food took way too long considering we were pretty much the only ones there. But I give this place a 4 star because the food was so good, that we came back a month later. My bf had the same thing as last time, and I went with the chopped salad with buffalo chicken (picture attached). The salad was HUGE and sooo tasty!! The atmosphere was also better because we came at a bit of a later time.. .around 430 pm, which was a great idea since it seemed to be 70% packed by the time we left. It was nice to see people coming here because I wasn't sure how well this place was doing. I know that other Boston Blackies have closed, which is sad because I love the food. I will def be back again, with the hopes of this place sticking around. If your in the mood for a good burger, I def recommend this place esp for the amount of food that you get and its value.

I was not impressed. The decor is very nice, which gives it the up-scale look and feel. The wait staff is okay, but I've had much better. As for the food... it was plane jane and nothing to really write about. Considering the price of the food, it's just about shameful. I will not be back.

Was there last night for dinner. Ordered the blackies burger and to start chicken wing. By the time I had finished with the wings we still had not received napkins, cutlery or our drinks. finally gor the burger however it was too well done and dry. Did not like the service and did not like the food.

Boston Blackie's has good food if you know what to order. Stick to three items: 1. The chicken sandwiches (they butterfly the chicken breasts to the point where they are obnoxiously big, but in a good way) 2. The nachos (they're "the pile" type; ask for an extra napkin) 3. Cottage fries Don't waste your time with anything else. Sure, they're known for their burgers, but they're frozen pre-formed patties that are always dried out. People were complaining about the prices but Boston Blackie's costs no more or less than any other burger restaurant these days. Sides are a la carte, but they easily feed three people so it all works out. Also, if this restaurant closes, there will officially be nowhere to eat in Deerfield that isn't named Tony's Subs.

Had been here so often, as this is close to the hotel I am generally staying. Their best dish had been the Baby back Ribs (17.99, so not really cheap). I had now two occasions where the Ribs were not tender at all and it has been even difficult to cut these off the bone. The waiter has not been responsive at all, and did not even check back with the kitchen. So, as this has been their differentiation to other (nicer) locations, will not come again.

Here from out of town. Not a must. I know they have lots of regulars...maybe I hit it on a bad night Too noisy. Too dark. Good service. Broasted chicken is really fried. Cole slaw just OK. Sweet potatoes fries were good. Cottage fries, cold and not cooked. Caesar Salad the best for the money. We also had A hot Dog, pulled chicken sandwich, a wrap and a chicken sandwich. It was very crowded, so maybe it was just a so-so day. Hate giving a mediocre review.

An awesome place to have a wide range of classic American meals! I have had a lot of dishes from Boston blackies, and I can't get enough of the flavors, but especially the size of the meals! Every meal or at least most meals come with a side. Meaning that you have options to choose a traditional side such as fries or a healthier option. The restaurant itself is in a mini mall which has more than enough parking. The restaurant inside is comfortable. It has nice dim lighting, tables and chairs or booths. They are always very accommodating as to where you would like to sit (if the seats are available). The prices are great for such huge portions. Most of the meals I've had cost around $10 not including drinks or appetizers. But I don't really need the extras since like I mentioned before the meals themselves are well proportioned. On my last visit I got a chicken sandwich. It came with a side of coleslaw which they make in house and it's delicious, and I was asked to pick a side which I choose their delicious skin cut fries. Overall it's one of my favorite places to eat lunch or dinner. During the weekday lunch rush it can get busy, so if you are in a hurry call ahead to reserve a spot, and even order ahead to make it an in and out pleasant experience. If in the area definitely check this out, it's so yummy!

I will give Boston Blackies a solid three star review. It reminded me of the office restaurant near where I am from. It had a decent pub style selection and tasting food. I was not super starving so I just went with a cup of soup and sweet potato fries...no matter how old I get I will always be a sucker for sweet potato fries! What made this dining experience so memorable was that it was our first stop on the cross country road trip and got to see a friend after a very long time. If not in downtown Chicago, this restaurant is a decent choice for the convenience to the area, especially if you're staying in the hotel across the street.

Never will order anything but a burger from Blackies if I ever come back here. When you normally order from the menu, it is usually safe to order the daily special which I decided to do. I ordered the Reuben special and was sorely disappointed with the experience except for the coleslaw. The Reuben had sparsely any meat and it was coarsely cut in a thick slice. And I mean one slice of meat. It didn't cover the area of the slice of bread. They also served it with the sauerkraut on the side and barely a tablespoonful was in the tiny cup. The sauce of thousand island dressing was bright pink and didn't overwhelm. Thankfully. The French fries were dry but the signature coleslaw tasted like it should with a perfect hint of horseradish. I am left unsatiated and underwhelmed. Doubt I will return and I only work down the block from here.

This is a sports bar so the most important factors are beer selection, atmosphere (TVs, how cozy it is, music) and the service. I can't speak about any of that stuff. *sad trombone* I only got carry out twice. Once they had a special. The full slab of ribs for the half slab price ($13.99) for my dog baby sitter. Not walker, she baby sits my dog who's not a baby but you get it. The ribs got a rave review for being better than expected and came with garlic mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and garlic bread. The second time my self and 2 co workers ordered carry out. We got: Loaded Potatoes Skins and the Boston Blackies Burger with Fries for Brian. He said he liked it all but it was a lot of food. Mozzerella Cheese Sticks and the Philly Cheesesteak and Fries for Kristen. She was ravenous and wolfed them down. I think she liked it but the cheese steak looked weird, to this reviewer. I got the bowl of chili with onions and cheese and the Chopped salad withgreens, red onion, cucumber, tomato, crumbled bleu cheese, boiled egg, crisp bacon and avocado all chopped with added bacon and grilled chicken breast hold the onions and the ranch dressing on the side. If I'm candid, I wouldn't order the chili again. It was too tomatoe-y and not well seasoned and poor amount of meat. The cheese quality was good and the onions fresh. The salad was good with the total cost of the salad including my added chicken and bacon I expected better. Also there were many brown spots on my avocado. The dressing was poor too. So I think this spot might is best suited for its intention- a sports bar but I can't review as to that unfortunately for you. You'll figure it out.

Boston Blackies has become a great place to enjoy dinner. Everyone loves their broasted chicken dinner for ten bucks. I had their rib special, during the month long special, when the full slab was only $15. I asked for no sauce and even naked (ribs. not me) it was really good. (Came with starch and coleslaw). My friend had one of their hamburgers and loved it. Humberto, the manager always has friendly staff, who hustle even when packed with diners. I noticed they offer a number of drink specials and have a very comfortable bar area. I like the wood paneled walls and have used one of their meeting rooms. This is a reasonably priced place with good quality food.

Just went here last week and had a wonderful cheddar burger on a pretzel bun, fries, cole slaw and a soda. MMMM!!! I must also mention the wait staff was phenomenal. I was at an event that was packed and they did a great job managing the crowd and getting all the orders straight. Will definitely be back!

Attended a birthday party here where they arranged for a custom menu, based on the price of $25pp. Enjoyed a giant 1/2 lb burger with bleu cheese and grilled onions and mushrooms and a side of sweet potato fries. Ate at the original Boston Blackies on Grand a number of times many years ago and this brought back good burger memories.

I've ordered takeout several times. Each time, the food is stone cold. It is mediocre to begin with, and then a cold burger with congealed cheese make it disgusting.

This place is OK. People seem to really like it because it's always difficult to walk through the room to our table. They pack too many people in there. I'm handicapped and walk with crutches and it's a nightmare. I can't imagine trying to get in there with a wheelchair. The food isn't anything special, hamburgers and such. There's also a bar in there where you get parked while waiting for a table. It's not a bad place. It's just not a great place either.

  • Eric S.

Not good! Ordered a pulled chicken sandwich but got a pulled pork instead...which would have been fine except for the bones and tendons in with the meat. Gross! Then when I complained they brought the actual pulled chicken which was just okay. Did I mention that they got my side dish wrong and I also had to send some water back because it tasted funny? They offered a free dessert to make up for the many mistakes. Who eats dessert at lunch? My first time there and also my last.

They always have a premium vodka special. Imagine a Ketal One martini for $6.50. Great price. Love the following. Burgers Broasted chicken Chicken wings Garbage salad Whitefish Steak fries Cottage fries Ribs. Grilled chicken sandwiches The service is always good. Love it all.

They get two stars because usually the food is reasonably good, and consistently so albeit nothing special. There is no atmosphere to speak of, and service tonight was a nightmare. The "server" came right away to get drink orders (good). The drinks came quickly and dinner orders were promptly taken (good). Then an HOUR LATER dinner hit the table...ice cold. All I had was grilled vegetables and a baked potato...Should be a no-brainer, but yeah not so much. The vegetables were steamed (not grilled) and likely were not actually steamed today...it was like they had been in a refrigerator! The waiter seldom stopped by the table to check in or top off drinks. By the time our meal was finished and cleared (TWO HOURS LATER) most of the area we were sitting in had cleared out. Sad service....sad broccoli...sad me :(

I've been to Blackie's before. The Chicago location, this location, the Arlington Heights location (before it closed, and I was SAD it closed.) My boyfriend had never been there. It was about 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon. I hadn't eaten all day, had just failed an investment licensing exam, was hungry AND thirsty (if you catch my drift.) He was coming home from a meeting in Rosement and had also not eaten. We wanted somewhere where our thirst would be quenched, so we decided to meet at Blackie's. At 3:30 on a Saturday, it's not very busy, but I didn't expect it to be. We sat at the bar and the bartender took great care of us, with both our food and beverages. We each ordered a beer and shared the appetizer sampler in addition to each ordering a burger because we were famished. The sampler platter consisted of wings, chicken fingers, hot dog bites, and potato skins. The wings and skins were my favorite, and I should've just made a meal of that. Instead, I also ordered a burger, which was delicious, but so filling. This turned into not only late lunch, but dinner as well. The boyfriend enjoyed his meal too, and said he would definitely come back to Blackie's. In my opinion, its difficult to find a good burger in the 'burbs... Blackie's makes it happen!

Place has pretty good food. I've been to this location a couple of times then went to the one in Skokie before they closed bc it was much closer to my house. Prices are average, food is decent. Nothing extremely special and even though the Skokie location closed, I'm not sure how often I'd come to this one as it is a good 20 min drive for me.

This place has fantastic burgers and a great variety of draft beer. It's a favorite lunch spot of mine in an area without many options! Each time I've been in there, the wait staff has been above average, with my only complaint being having to request drink refills. Other than that, absolutely no complaints!

I've dined in here once and ordered for pick up several times - it's definitely a favorite lunch spot. Their burgers are excellent and everything I've seen come out of their kitchen thus far is HUGE portions and well prepared. The wait staff are friendly and prompt...the dining area is actually even more classy than I anticipated...and prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. I'll update if anything changes but as it stands now, this is one of my favorite places in Deerfield. I'm getting hungry just thinking about their bacon and bleu cheese burger...

Boston Blackies makes pretty good American fare. However, I can see why I've seen many of them go out of business (River North, Naperville). There is no passion or soul to their food and it definitely shows. Given how close they are to my office I order from the Deerfield location at least once a week for delivery. The food is pretty good and partially why I keep ordering but its just prepared with no regard for real quality. I order the chopped/Greek salad quite a bit and sometimes the chicken is chopped, sometimes its in gigantic strips that are too big to eat, and sometimes its just the entire breast placed on top of my salad. I also order the turkey burger a lot which I can only assume is from a frozen patty because the patty is least 1.5x the size of my bun. I have to eat the patty sticking out of my bun all the way around because I can't get to my sandwich. Like i said, the food is good, just don't expect any real thought put into your meal. Given all of this, I can see why I've seen other locations go out of business. If they put in a little extra effort, this place could be pretty great. Also get the cottage fries - they are excellent.

I've lived in the area forever only recently dined here. It was for a work lunch on a Tues afternoon and it was not busy. The food was great. I got the chicken philly. It was huge, I ended up just eating it with a fork, but it was worth it because it was that good. Good service too. Fast forward to last night. It was busy, but not packed. Got seated right away and there were tables still open. Service was very slow. Very. Finally got our drinks ordered and placed the appetizer (thankfully) took a while to get our drinks and appetizer. The onion rings were good. Our meals took a very long time. Waitress never came to see if we needed refills during that time. Nothing unusual, 2 burgers and a sandwich. The patty melt was burned on one side and the cook made sure that side was on the bottom. It was warm at best. The burger was all but edible. The veggie sandwich was better then the burgers. Only good thing was the fries. The cole slaw is good but not the best we've ever had. Only time I'd come back is if work is paying.

The only thing I ever knew about Boston Blackies was that they declared bankruptcy or got foreclosed on or something a few weeks ago. I'd never been and never heard good or bad things about this place. One recent afternoon a co-worker had to go to the DMV. That left the options to be not good Thai food, greasy hot dogs and burgers, or Boston Blackies. Blackies it is! We walked in and I felt like maybe it was too classy for me. All wood everywhere and a full bar? At lunch? Maybe we should just go to Panera or Subway... Nope, we are here. Might as well eat. I couldn't decide on what to have once we were seated... The cobb salad? The garbage salad? When the waiter came over I mentioned that I hadn't been before and he suggested the Philly right away. Mmm... Philly cheese steak... Ok. I'll have that. And the Homestyle fries. When it came out it was cheesy and packed full of mushrooms and peppers on onions. It come in some sort of flatbread instead of the normal roll you'd expect. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was perfect. When I was done eating, the bread was still nice, not all soggy like you'd expect. And the fries were thick cut disks of potato fried to perfection. It was definitely too much food for lunch but it was wonderful! Next time I feel like pigging out at lunch, I'm going to have to fake a trip to the DMV!

I have to add an update, went for full dinner with the family on st pats night, i ordered the corn beef special. Toughest piece of corn beef I have ever had in my life. Awful. Had to let them know. Blackies being about customer service, without hesitation, asked me if I wanted a different meal instead, or a dessert, etc. I was leaning towards taking one of their fantastic burgers home, but I left the decision up to my family who opted for the yummy piece of carrot cake that all four of us were able to split. Thx Blackies for righting the wrong so effortlessly.

i gave blackies a try last year or so, and it wasn't that well (in the restaurant). The service was eh, the food was eh (from what i recall). But i ordered today for delivery to my work and man i was impressed. the only reason its not 5 stars is because they forgot a few toppings on my burger. but the cottage fries were great, as I've seen on previous reviews, the burger was just right : juicy but medium well. i had the burger on the pretzel bun A+. i will be coming back here more often.

I really love the burgers and Blackie draft beer, sooo good. Great chicken sandwiches as well. The burger is huge and you can get just about any topping you want. It's also available on dark rye which I like. Nice bar area with a couple TV's scattered around. Won't break the bank like Beinlichs down the street on Skokie Blvd.

pretty decent burger. Nothing crazy special. The home-style fries are bomb! We had a groupon for them, i'd probably go back again sometime if someone asked.

Not bad,not great. The burgers here are pretty good and they now come with a side of fries as well as coleslaw for a price comparable to other places (about $10). The dozens of varieties have been replaced by ordering the add-ons you want to add to the basic few burgers. The Philly Steak on a pita is a standout - quite unlike the classic though - it uses chunks of real steak, not thin slices. Service can be abrupt if you get the server who is too busy to care. The older crowd seems like the same folks from Carson's when they want a more casual meal.

Okay, first off, you are charging $9 - 12 for a burger, a la carte. For that money, it better damn well be a Kuma's burger, where you can get a monstrous 10 ounce burger with super premium toppings and the best waffle fries you've ever had for $10. And it ain't. It ain't no Kuma's burger. It ain't nothing at all. It is at average or just below. Add on the $2.50 for fries and you have a stupidly expensive meal. Second, the slaw that they rave about on their menu and serve with everything is tasty, but it is exactly like KFC's, and if you want it that badly, I think you can get a side of it at a drive-thru for $1.29. Third, service is hit or miss. This last time I was conned into going, it was slow as all Hell but our server was insanely good-natured and on top of things. The time before, notsomuch either of those. And our then-server argued with me about putting chicken instead of chili on the taco salad, since I didn't eat red meat at the time. And had to get a manager's permission. And even though it was INSTEAD of chili, they insisted on charging me the full $4 add-chicken charge on top of the $9 for the salad. By then I was tired of fighting with them so I ate the cost (but only half my mediocre salad.) Hostesses tend towards the ditzy side. Mashed potatoes are over-peppered, skirt steak under-seasoned. Good points: Cream of chicken soup is AMAZING and I should have just stuck with that. Onion rings are big and yummy and a good portion. Honestly, with so many places to get a cheap, ungodly delicious burger in Chicago, I don't see why anyone should bother. And an extra demerit for calling yourself a Chicago institution and then serving our prized Vienna beef dogs in chunks with BBQ SAUCE. WTF, gross. Worse than ketchup.

I've only experienced Blackies in a takeout manner but have been happy with the results. For bar food, it's about as good as you can ask for. The portions are large and the quality is top notch. A definite step-up from places like Fridays and Applebees. Their chicken sandwiches are enormous and the italian beef is impossible to finish in one sitting. Some of the best potato skins I've ever had too. And the prices are very reasonable. Location is convenient with plenty of parking and easy access. Only minor gripe is they seem understaffed at times and there can be a bit of a wait from their estimated times.

Boston Blackie ... Horatio Black, jewel thief turned good guy. Back in the day, Boston Blackie was on radio and film, a franchise of entertainment. Enter the restaurant chain. Ok, this works, cuz Blackie is a seriously cool character. Well times and owners change and it seems like Horatio Black is being eased out of Boston Blackies. The mural over the bar has been replaced by television sets. Just what we need, more sports. Not!!! Well, the burgers we ate were good. The onion rings were good too. None of it was great but fine for a stop on a Sunday afternoon. I'd stop here again I guess if I am in the area, but I guaran-damn-tee ya that taking the mural away killed the atmosphere for me. Color me a traditionalist. Color them Boston (not so) Blackie.

I hate a wedge salad with buffalo chicken. The blue cheese dressing was good, and the buffalo chicken was excellent. It is a good place to go for lunch.

Came here with a group for a birthday party. Not looking forward to it. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food. Pretty much a bar food menu, but what they do they seem to do well. Here is the thing, at the suggestion of the waitress-thank you-THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS that i have had in a long time. Real cod, seemed housemade with frest codfish. Very nice batter and good housemade chips Also, REAL ONION RINGS-good too! Hard to find these days. Mostly what you get are frozen out of a bag and still get charged $8 bucks. This place has the real deal onoin rings., I am a fan. Very crowded and very noisy, go a little later on a weekend and it thins out.

Order placed through GrubHub and I don't think they read any of the notes! I got a baked potato that did not have any butter even though I requested it. I also didn't receive any utensils or napkins and they were desperately needed (and requested) as I was staying in a hotel. Try eating a half rack of ribs and not having napkins! The ribs were very flavorful, but the slaw and potato were blah. Overall the food wasn't worth the money...they were kind of pricey. I probably won't be ordering from them again.

The burgers are yummy, but not the best. Their ribs that my mother ordered..so sad..were old tasting and not good. My sweet mom went hungry that night because they were so..yuck. My dad enjoyed his lake superior whitefish though..so that's a PLUS. Our server was nice though and I appreciated her willingness to help out and accomodate my family. They have a super $7.99 deal on Broasted chicken which everyone seemed to be getting. Blackies has very reasonable prices and has decent food, but just won't be my go-to place.

It really was cool to see a Yelp sticker on the front door at Boston Blackies when I arrived for lunch. I wasn't going to repeat past mistakes, and correctly ordered a burger. The patty melt was perfect, the beefsteak tomato and lettuce came along with a cup of terrific cole slaw and I thought their version of a milkshake was totally straw-worthy even though it was not super thick. Their thin sliced, potato chips were served hot and the waiter was attentive. The menu offers salads, prime rib sandwiches, fillet sandwiches and more. I much preferred Boston Blackies as a lunch spot. Caveat: If you are already suffering a nervous stomach due to the state of the stock market be forewarned that they broadcast MSNBC stock quotes from multiple monitors..

Been here a lot of times over the years. Went today for lunch with my boss, since it's right near our office. Good burgers. Really good burgers actually. It annoys me, however, that you have to get the fries separately. I happen to like the fries (they aren't normal fries - the potatoes are sliced thinly into slices instead of french fries... sorry, can't think of a better way to describe it) but when you get a burger and fries, it's an obscene amount of food. Seriously obscene. But really good so you want to eat it all. But it's not possible to eat it all while it's still hot. And really, a burger and fries should be enjoyed hot. So then it's not hot anymore and you don't finish it and you end up wasting food and I don't like that. In sum: good burgers, good fries, way too much food. The end.

Great food with nice atmosphere. The philly steak is a nice way to go, with lots of cheese, delicious mushrooms and plenty of steak. We'll be back!
