Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

The Main Hangar Restaurant is a family owned and operated business serving authentic Sicilian and American Cuisines for breakfast (Saturdays only), lunch, and dinner. We are one of Central Illinois's best kept secrets. This comfortable restaurant, with big picture windows that overlook the runways and taxiways, provides a panoramic view of arriving and departing aircraft, and the well-kept Decatur Airport grounds. Whether it's a breakfast with friends on Saturday morning, a casual lunch meeting, a dress-up evening dinner or a night out enjoying one of our Stand-Up Comedy events, the Main Hangar Restaurant is a unique choice to enjoy yourself and impress your guests. The expert, courteous service and gastronomic delights provided at the Main Hangar Restaurant ensure a pleasant and memorable dining experience.

WOW! What a great place, walked in closer to close than we normally would have, passing thru from out of town. They were super nice and really made us feel at home. And to top it all off they have a full GF menu!!! Food was very good, very fresh--pasta made in house. Definitely recommend--

Great place for Sunday brunch. Went there today it was fabulous great assortment of both breakfast and lunch options just what I was looking for. Even better was that both meals were fantastic the meatballs were top 5 I have ever had and same for the mashed potatoes. What was also very nice was the garlic infused roast beef it was superb. The views of the runways and planes are very nice. You can watch planes getting ready for take off and then the actual takeoff it is a very cool up lose airport experience. If you wake up before 2 pm on a Sunday and you are hungry, you should definitely check out the Main Hanger for brunch!

I've gone to the Main Hangar for several years and it is one of the very few restaurants that I will go to in the Decatur area. Their staff is friendly, the food is always very good, and the price is reasonable. My meal is always served quickly and a manager always follows up to make sure everything is satisfactory. Although small, their lunch salad/soup/pasta/potato bar is adequate and always well stocked. The Sunday brunch is also a treat consisting of many breakfast and lunch items, carved ham and roast beef, along with several desserts to choose from. The Main Hangar is a family owned restaurant and you can tell by their attention to detail. When I am asked for a recommendation, I always suggest the Main Hangar.

I usually dread the food at airports... But The Main Hangar changed all of that! The staff is friendly and the service is superior... The view of the airport runways is wonderful especially when it's all lit up at night... But the real star is the food! This is fine food with the love of a home cooked meal. True Italian delicacies that are so much better than the chains. The prime rib is Oooooooo so good. And if you're lucky enough to be here when they're serving twice baked potatoes you will enjoy what I consider, the very best twice baked potatoes I've ever had!

Ate breakfast here this morning, we have flown in and eaten breakfast here several times and always got great food and great service. Today we had to wait almost an hour on our food. I am pretty petite and I HAVE to eat something for breakfast....we waited so long I started getting sick and my husband had to go in search of SOMETHING for me to eat, he came back with some crackers, it was all they would give him. I could not even get my coffee refilled, he had to go in search of coffee for me too. The restaurant was NOT busy. The few tables around us that were occupied were all complaining because none of them were getting timely food either. This is especially a problem at an airport, where many people are on tight schedules! When we FINALLY got our food it was great, tasty and hot, but by then the experience was sorta ruined. We agreed if we go again we'll bring some food with us in case we have another long wait. Seems like we should not have to plan to do this at a RESTAURANT!

The Main Hangar is much more than just a great dining experience. From trivia nights to comedy nights with national talents to other various themed events there is always something going on out at The Main Hangar. The food however, is always at the forefront. The menu offers everything you'd expect from a classic Italian restaurant as well as more contemporary American fare as well. My 'go to' item is always the fusilli with mushrooms and sausage. The pasta is always cooked al dente and sauced appropriately - not drowning in it, but not sparse to where you get naked noodles. The bread and salad that come out before your entree are always great as well, excellent dressing. Of particular note also are the fried mushrooms - huge mushrooms battered and friend perfectly with a hint of oregano...another one of my staple orders. All in all, 10/10. If you are in Decatur for business, or just live in the area, skip the Olive Garden and go to The Main Hangar for authentic Italian cuisine - and support local business!
