Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I really enjoy this restaurant - good bread and salad with a nice selection of entrees. They also allow customers to make their own plates, choosing the pasta, sauce (spaghetti, marinara, creamy marinara, alfredo, etc.), and the protein. Nice location in the downtown area and we've always had friendly service.

I have been here twice. Once for lunch and one for dinner. I just don't understand the good reviews on here. I thought the food was SO bland and boring. I had a chicken sandwich that was crusted in crushed pretzels. It was so mushy and the entire plate lacked any flavor. I had the pasta for dinner and thought it tasted pretty average. I could have made that out of a box of pasta and a jar of sauce. The breadsticks were good but other than that... no thanks.

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon as this appears to be the only eatery open in downtown Decatur on a Sunday. Service was decent. Breadsticks- delicious! Salad was mediocre, I wish more greens were mixed in besides iceburg lettuce. My husband ordered the chicken fettuccine and said it was better than Olive Garden's. I opted for the manicotti and sausage/peppers- large portion! Definitely had leftovers for dinner. And their meat sauce is very good!

I was there with a big party and service was good. Menu was incomplete, we were told they were printing new ones but there was no appetizer or drink list available. The salad was overdressed and wet/soggy. Bread sticks were fresh and delicious as always. Entrees varied. Some said they were good. 2 people near me got the Asiago pretzel chicken. One was overcooked and dry and the other was undercooked and pink in the middle. My seafood lasagna was warmish, definitely not hot and I remember the quality being much better when the restaurant first opened. I sincerely hope when the new menus come out the quality goes up. Neither pasta nor sauces seem to be restaurant quality. As it is now, I would never choose to eat here, I only come when invited by others. My advice is that quality of food should match your prices. A restaurant cannot be sustained on great bread sticks alone.

Not impressed. Service was horrible. Food was mediocre. The waiter was nice and did allow us to try the different sauces being our first time there, but after this initial gesture, she completely forgot about our table. We asked her for boxes and breadsticks twice, waited way too long to receive the check, and also waited terribly long for the food. The breadsticks were pretty good, but the salad was really nothing special. A bunch of chopped iceberg lettuce..yuck. The pasta was nothing to write home about and for the price, i expected something more. It tasted like one of those family pasta meals you buy from the freezer section at the grocery store. To top it all off, the beer was expensive ($6.75 for large Stella) and my margarita was made with one of those premixed cocktail bottles. Is it so hard to make a fresh margarita? $85 with tip for three people, who each ordered one entree and one beer. One margarita was also purchased. Not at all worth that kind of money! Will not be going back.

Stopped at Pastabilities with visiting family when we got hungry wandering around downtown. One in our party has to eat gluten-free. When we asked the host if that was possible he didn't know. He did, however, ask immediately and quickly came back to let us know that there were several gluten-free items available. Our waitress was nice, but fairly abrupt, and didn't really offer us any information or guidance about the menu. My husband asked for a Mt Dew and was told they didn't have any. This is fine, but it's listed on the menu. Maybe that should be taken off, or she should have said they were out? We were confused about that. We were also surprised when salads came to the table - no one had been asked about dressings or anything like that. This also meant that they all came with croutons, and we had to ask for a new one to be made to be gluten-free. The breadsticks were tasty, but the food was mediocre at best. No one was raving about their food. My chicken parmesan flatbread was essentially a tortilla with some red sauce, chicken, and shredded mozzarella melted on top. It wasn't even that hot, and was actually a little cold by the end of the meal. Bottom line: The breadsticks are good, but that was about it. Olive Garden is better. We all agreed that we will not go back.

My family and I were there on a Sunday evening. Service was average. Spotty at times. My son and I got unlimited pasta. Food was very good. Breadsticks were wonderful. We will be going back.

Decatur is my home town and when I am in town I go out to eat all over the city to catch up with friends. I have to say that this was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in recent memory. We arrived to the restaurant around 6:20pm 4/8 (Tuesday), we waited +15 minutes before our server ever came over and offered us water. I have not been to this restaurant in several years, but my parents have gone a few times. I was not familiar with their menu or drink/wine menu so I had no idea that they only have one wine selection by wine category. Nor do I know that the salad comes with the entree and that they serve it like Olive Garden. Our waitress did not explain any of this and just stated that the salad came with the entree - ok well it doesn't say that. My entree says it came with garlic mashed potatoes and nothing about the salad, but I don't appreciate your condescending attitude. The wait time for us to get our salads was extreme; our waitress basically ignored us throughout our time there. My father got the all you can eat pasta - which we had to flag down the hostess to get the waitress so that he could request another bowl (he was eating spaghetti) which took 10 minutes. The entire table was low on their drinks; I was actually out of water and drinking my fathers. We flagged down our waitress and it took 15 minutes to get another glass of water. We saw a manager (not dressed in uniform tee-shirt) with a pitcher of water in another section of the restaurant but she did not go anywhere near our section or walk by us at any time to see if we needed anything. When my father finally asked for a take home box, this also took 10 minutes. Check was presented / paid and then we sat at the table and talked for a little while, waitress never came back and cleared anything nor did she ever again ask if we needed anything. I would expect slow service if the restaurant was busy - but it was not. Slow service I can understand and if the server is communicating with you during the process that makes it less of a negative experience. Our perception of this server was that she was annoyed that we were there and certainly didn't go out of her way to offer us even basic service. We were nothing but an afterthought to her. The management personnel on duty should have been making rounds and asking guests if they needed anything, especially if they were short staffed. We saw two different servers working and a total of five to six tables occupied while we were there (four tops or five). Food was fine everyone seemed pleased, and I would always pick the local option over a chain if I can. However we will not go back, food of course is a driving force in repeat experience at a restaurant, but you have amazing food and terrible service, we have other options! Pastabilities you better step up your game -- we went to Tap Root last night which is around the corner and the food and service was unbelievable. Olive Garden 5 miles up the road is always busy and would be your nearest Italian competitor, you offer a unique atmosphere that is so well thought out and the decor is inventive and not "cookie cutter" but your staff needs a face lift in not only attitude but service as well.

Had a meatball sub at lunch. It was good. Lots of cheese, upgrade from the one at Subway. I don't know if the $7 price was worth it though. LOVED the breadsticks though.

Bread sticks were great. The salad was ok. The dressing was definitely from a bottle. The main dish was decent. Not horrible, but Olive garden is better. I might go back for bread and dessert, but that is all.

I am a transplant to Decatur having lived most of my life within easy reach of St. Louis' famed Hill neighborhood and its abounding Italian eateries. I am almost always disappointed with Italian food anywhere else. Well, this place isn't too bad. Breadsticks are great. Service can be spotty, but is usually passing. They have very good lunch specials until 3 pm. Ask if they have the dollar desserts that day, they are a nice little top off to a good meal.
