We love La Fondita (or as we like to call it, Raoul's). We have been eating here since they opened. This restaurant is a small family ran place and has some amazing food and service. First, Mr. Raoul (sp?) and his wife run the place. They are both very friendly and get to know their regulars. They always ask about our children if we don't bring them with us and when the boys do go along, Mr. Raoul always spends time talking with them and he even puts up the youngest's attempt at trying to talk to him in Spanish. Although we have liked everything we have ordered at La Fondita, here are the menu items we love. Papa Nachos: Now these aren't your typical nachos. These are a base of waffle fries topped with melted Mexican queso and sauteed veggies (onions, peppers, tomatoes) and then your choice of meat. We always order steak, chicken and chirizo (sp?). Get the large one to share or the small one as an individual. Def. NOT a low-calorie food, but oh so good. Fried Shrimp Salad: Amazing! This is a different kind of dish. It is a small mound of hot rice in the middle of the plate surrounded by cold crisp lettuce. Pica-de-gao is sprinkled over the lettuce and then crispy, slightly breaded (more like a very thin and light tempera) shrimp are arranged around on the lettuce. I like to squeeze a lime (or several) over mine. Wow is it good. Something about the hot rice and cold lettuce just is really good. Chirizo Fundido is a Mexican Queso with chirizo in it. AMAZING! Chicken Soup is very good, especially when you're fighting a winter head cold. Taco Pastors are also yummy. These are three pork tacos with nothing but the tortilla, meat and some homemade sauce. These are NOT for the timid though. They have a LOT of heat to them. Fried Ice Cream is also a yummy treat as is the hot wings. You won't regret taking a seat at Raoul's table. Come on in and enjoy a family atmosphere and really good food!

Delicious, great atmosphere. Not very much seating but worth the wait. The entire staff is super friendly with a family owned yet professional atmosphere. One of the most attentive wait staff I have ever encountered. If you don't know what to get just ask Raul to make you whatever is tastiest, you'll never be disappointed.

Don't be fooled by the store front look and down to earth atmosphere. This is some of the best Mexican food I've had in the midwest. After years of being spoiled by the Mexican food available in the southwest, I've learned not to expect much from Mexican restaurants east of the Mountain Time Zone, but the food here made me feel like I was at a family run joint in Sonora Mexico! I had the taco trio, which comes with one beef, one chicken, and one pork taco, AKA "Pastor". I asked for corn tortillas and they gladly substituted them for the flour. The meat was moist and delicious and the flavor was amazing. The salsa they brought out with the chips was ok, nothing to write home about, so I added some of the tapatio sauce they had in bottles on the table and it gave it the zing I've come to expect from salsa....But here's what made up for it: They brought me out a green tomatillo salsa (presumably for my tacos, but the may have seem me spicing up my salsa and figured I could handle it) that was some of the best tomatillo salsa I've ever had! The tacos came with a side of rice and beans, but I just wanted beans so they gave me a large side plate of refried beans I couldn't even finish because the tacos were pretty filling (and nobody has ever accused me of being a lite eater!!!). Would definitely eat here again...If I lived in this town, this would be a regular destination.

Very busy, not a seat in the house at 5:30 on a Saturday night. Menu is not just the usual. Offers pork fajitas, shrimp & scallops fajitas. Standard Mexican beer list. Don't think the Chips were home made but were good & thick like I like. Salsa wasn't anything special either but still good. Pretty fast for as crowded as it was. Disappointed in the shrimp, over done& tough but chimi was crisp like it should be. Overall would like to give it another try on a different meal before final judgement on whether it's a keeper.

Best Mexican of my short 48 yr life. Try the charizio fondita dip, big fan. Small place in a strip mall but a don't miss! Foods great, prices reasonable and staff is very friendly.

Great food, I paid $4.75 for a taco, quesadilla, and refried beans! The food was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the food came out quickly. Would recommend eating here if you want Mexican food for lunch or dinner!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
