The finance isn't a big fan of hibachi so we opted for sushi instead. Everything tasted mediocre. The sashimi was a bit dry and dull and the rolls were okay. We started with a soup and salad. The dressing was an odd mixture of light ranch and asian seseme ginger? Not sure, but my greens were drenched in it. The eel nigiri was probably our favorite. I kind of regret not trying the hibachi. The place is spacious. Great ambiance. Not too shabby. I think this was the only sushi place I saw while in Decatur.

The ONLY place you should be eating Sushi at in Decatur, IL. Service is a bit slow but overall the staff is very nice. The sushi is fresh and portions are great! The lunch specials are really good and definitely try the Ramen noodle soups, those are excellent and very filling!

Compared to the other dining options in Decatur, I'm giving this place a 4 star rating. By no means is it phenomenal food, but it's definitely way better than going to a Applebees. Fuji is your typical Chinese food chain where you can get hibachi, any standard meal, or sushi. All the options are good, and you really can't go wrong. My vote is probably for the hibachi meal because you can get great flavors all cooked together in a stir fry. Sushi may not be the safest choice when in the middle of Illinois...the ocean is really far away. Overall, a good place to go when you want some Chinese food, and likely my #1 destination in the Decatur area.

All ya'll better get over here and hit up hibachi or I'm gonna kick your neck off! There ain't nothing better than gettin fired up with some real life Asian coozene. Me and my food lovin fanatics walked in here and sat over right by the grill! We didn't know what hit us and ain't nobody scared of us. Dat birthday girl got some chicken and fillut and it ain't nothin but right on da money. The ole waiter was real authentic like and made us for some giggles. He was throwin food on dat grill and makin it reaaaaal nice. Filling up on real fried rice made it square but even better was den der veggies covered in da sweetest Decaturville sauce ever done seen. We put some Saki in our cups and sipped er on down. Listen. I don't care who you are but you aren't nobody doing nothin at all if you ain't actin up makin up for some hibachi food out here at fujis.

I'm always disappointed with the food and decor. It seems that every time we go, something is broken (like the door handles). For the price, I expect better tasting dishes. Save the money and get better sushi and rice somewhere else.

The atmosphere is very pleasant with attractive decor, especially the fish tank! I love watching them prepare the food which is pretty tasty. The service is excellent and staff is friendly. Overall this is a good time with good food! If you get there before 2:30 the lunch special is only $10, it doubles after that. The desserts are good, and we were served an extra ice cream dish because it was our anniversary. Most people won't be disappointed...

Great food, good show by the chef. Glad that we now have Fuji in Illinois. Columbus was the first one we visited.

I came here on a whim with my sister and we had a really nice experience. With her in St. Louis and me in Champaign for a clinical, Decatur was a semi-midway place to meet to swap cars. We were able to be seated immediately and the price point was very affordable without compromising the quality. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but we definitely had a pleasant experience sharing 3 small rolls, including their sweet potato roll and one of their salmon rolls!

Love this place. Doesn't look like much from the outside, much larger than expected on the inside. Hibachi style cooking that is entertaining. My kids absolutely loved the experience. Food is plentiful and very tasty. There can be a long wait on weekends.

It was our first time an probably last. It was so very salty we must have had drank a gallon of water. The chef we had was skilled but not as entertaining as the others around us. Not impressed with having food tossed at me face he didn't warn me then made fun of me in front of the whole table. Then they automatically add a 20% tip....I wouldn't have given that much for .

Love this place would give them five stars but there is so many places I haven't been to yet. Great service and great food tho the four times I've been here. The interior design and decor of this place is really nice and much bigger than I had anticipated. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. I just started eating sushi last year so I'm kinda late to the game. I will continue eating sushi and telling you about it. This place would be great for a group of people to have a birthday party or celebration. It is a hibachi style grill so the chef keeps everyone entertained. I have to admit my girl and I always sit in a booth so I cant comment on the chefs. I did watch a birthday song and it involved 3 drums and I think 5 other employees. I might just keep the bday part on the dl, but go check it out you might love it.

My all-time favorite place to eat at. The best way I can describe Fuji's is "like Benihana, but 10x better". The fact that they don't have a nation-wide chain and can only be found in the small town of Decatur is a real crime. The rice, steak, and chicken are possibly the best I've ever eaten. The rice, which is mixed in with egg and an assortment of other seasonings, is good enough on its own, but you can cover it in Fuji's special "yum yum" sauce (yes, that's what they refer to it as) to make it even better. The steak and chicken portions are kinda small, but they're really juicy, perfectly marinated, and worth the price. I'm not a fan of salads at all and find most to be inedible, but even I enjoy the salads Fuji's makes. The lunch pricing is a huge positive Fuji's has going for it. For only $10.50, you can get a giant heaping of steak, chicken, rice, vegetables, and salad. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal than that. The rice and veggie portions are absolutely huge and almost everyone I know has to get a box for leftovers. It's rare to find anyone who can eat that much food in one sitting. The one drawback is the dinner prices. Although you do get a little more food, the increase in price means it isn't worth it. The same $10.50 meal I talked about in the previous paragraph will now cost you around $19.50 if you get it during dinner hours. Why the increase in price? I have no clue. The only extra thing you get in the dinner portion that you don't get in the lunch portion is a bland-tasting bowl of soup, so it's hardly worth paying the extra $9. Don't get me wrong, the food is so good that I'd pay $19.50 if I absolutely had to, but when you can go a few hours earlier and get the same thing for a much cheaper price, why would you ever go with the more expensive option?

Just ate at Fuji. Exhaust fans don't work. Service sucks, they don't refill your water or tea and they add an automatic 20% tip. It sucks. Go elsewhere.

Environment is fun and entertaining. The sushi was surprisingly very good! The Sunni roll and sweetheart roll were some of the beat I've had; however the hibachi food was just ok. How many times do you have to cut open chicken to determine it is done? Trust me, it was done the third time you cut it open. One big tip, clean up the nasty front entry. Cigarette butts and gum all over the place...not very appetizing.

This was our first time at Fuji's steak house. We went there to celebrate our daughter's 16th birthday. We ordered sushi, Tempera, fried scallops, and another appetizer. All of them were very well done and delicious. All of us ordered from the hibachi grill and sat at one of the grill tables. The salads that we were served with the meal came with a ginger house dressing and the salad was very delicious and very fresh. Watching the chef prepare our meal was very entertaining. I would highly recommend sitting at the grill table. Our order included the fillet mignon, shrimp, chicken, lobster, and scallops from different people in our party. The lobster, fillet mignon, shrimp, and scallops were all amazing. I particularly liked the lobster. The meals are gigantic. We were also served fried rice and it was prepared in front of us. We also have the choice of fried vegetables, which I would highly recommend choosing as it is stirfry vegetables and went well with the meal. My husband ordered filtered regular sake. It was very good. I ordered a Mai Tai and it was delicious. At the end of the meal, they came out and sang happy birthday to our daughter and brought her a dessert. We will definitely be making a return trip to this restaurant.

Food: 4 star Service: 3 star Decor: 2 star Come here for lunch. very good specials. I got the hibachi shrimp and steak with fried rice and soup and veggies my friend ordered the sushi special Cheap, fantastic, and good service However, the downside is the decor... the tables were opened during lunch and the booth we sat at was worn and old and it was...kinda sticky... yikes.
(3)Rachel S.
I was a little hesitant when we drove here and saw it was in a strip mall but since we were there, we figured we would give it a try. We were craving sushi, not the grill, and we were seated at the sushi bar since all of the tables were occupied. We got to see the sushi we ordered made right in front of us and it was tasty! I have not tasted the menu from the grill to have a complete review but if you're in the Decatur area and are hoping for some sushi, this restaurant will satisfy. My review was knocked down a star due to the high prices, even for sushi.
(4)Pritesh P.
I came in hungry and left extremely stuffed, my wallet did the exact opposite. This was one expensive date (plus it turned out she was more interested in another guy, broke my heart a bit), but the flavors of the food and the hibachi grill-side entertainment were more than worth it. I liked that they had authentic green tea as one of the beverage choices, as well as a few Japanese beers, Sapporo anyone? They have a fish tank by the entrance, I f****ng love fish tanks.

DON'T EAT AT THE TABLES. We have visited Fuji several times in the last two years and have eaten at the grill every time and were very happy. However, we visited the restaurant last Friday and were very disappointed. The restaurant was busy but had several open grill tables. The hostess said it would be a 45 minute wait for the grill and the food at the tables was "exactly the same." Against our better judgement, we at at the tables and ordered hibachi chicken and sukaki steak. I was shocked to see that the portions were much smaller, and we were very disappointed in the quality of the food. There is no way that we should have been charged the same price for less food of much lower quality. It was evident that it had been sitting in the back for some time. Grill: 4 or 5 stars. Until this visit, it had been very good food although it is expensive.
(1)Amanda W.
Always entertaining to sit at the grills and watch them fix your food. Very tasty and I always have leftovers because they fix so much food for each person! Just be prepared to wait for a spot at the grill...especially on the weekends!

Was stopping over in Decatur(hometown) for a night on my way to Mardi Gras in St. Louis, and dropped in here with my mom for lunch. Good ambiance-didn't feel like a strip mall. Good service, just "ok" food. Good tea. Good salad dressing, but Iceberg lettuce(bleh-iceberg lettuce) dripping wet(literally half a cup of water at bottom of bowl)-use a salad spinner. My mom had a healthy plate of vegetables, which she seemed to like after putting half a pound of wasabi in it. I had the pick 3 rolls(8 pieces per roll) for I think 11.95(insanely good value)-spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and salmon tempura. The tempura was easily the best of the three, but they were all acceptable. It would be a 2 star, but it's a solid place for Decatur and it is insanely cheap(seriously, I spent over 100 for the same amount of food a few days earlier in Chicago-not including drinks, which seemed extremely cheap at fuji as well). Again, good place. However, it's not a 5 star caliber experience. It's an A-OK experience and worth a visit while in Decatur.

Fuji is a great place to eat, with a group or just a couple. It is like a big party with great food.
(5)Alan K.
The atmosphere here is great! I was really impressed with the decorum. I had the sushi and sashimi platter. I could have ordered my favorites individually but I chose to go for the platter and was pleasantly surprised by the variety I received. All the fish was delicious and as an added treat I got salmon roe with the platter! I can't wait to go back. I am glad we finally got a good sushi place nearby. They also have hibachi if sushi is not your thing.

I was in town along with my brother and his family visiting our parents for their 35th wedding anniversary and my parents chose this place to go for dinner. Unfortunately the experience was awful. First I noticed right away the egg in our fried rice was burned. The food and entertainment other than that was just OK. The worst part though was that my dad found a wrapped and somewhat melted, cough drop in his fried rice on his place! When my dad brought it to the attention of our cook, the cook took his plate to show the manager. The manager came to speak with my dad and told him that there had been a bag of cough drops in the area where the rice was and he had repeatedly told the workers not to put cough drops by the rice but they knew nothing about food. He said he would take it off our bill. He quickly left our table and nobody ever came back. Which means my dad was left with NO meal! I'll never come back here again because the understanding of etiquette and how to run a business is completely lacking. Go get an MBA! Or at least take a couple of classes!
(1)Stephen P.
The food was decent, but the waitress needs a lesson on how to serve drinks, as sticking your finger in the drink glass or clutching the rim is not the correct way. I enjoyed the atmosphere and loved watching the chef prepare the food. For Decatur this is a decent restaurant, portions are good size and you will most likely take some food home. They were busy, and it was the holiday rush, FOOD is good, service is good! So all in all it is not too bad! I would go back!

They offer teppanyaki style dining, as well as regular style dining. We were visiting family in Illinois and were celebrating our 11th anniversary so we decided this place would be a nicest place to take the whole family. We sat around the grill, and were greated instantly and given menus. I chose the edemame as an appetizer and the chicken and shrimp for my dinner entree. The chef came out shortly there after, and he lit the grill with a bright blaze of fire, which instantly amused my two sons. Then he did some tricks with his cooking utencils to make the fried rice and vegetables, a nice steaming "volcano" with onion slices, and finished with our entres. The fried rice and vegetables were good, but were a little salty. I think the chef went a little heavy handed with the soy sauce. The meats, however, were flavorful and cooked perfectly. This is a great place to enjoy a good meal and a show. I think it's perfect for kids too, because mine were entertained the entire time. When we come back to Decatur, we'll definitely come back here.

Excellent sushi in the middle on no where! (Sorry Decatureans). Try the spicy tuna roll - high quality ingredients with a nice crunch. Located in a strip mall between WalMart and Sam's Club so you have to look carefully for it but it's worth the hunt.
(4)David C.
Need to go inside to appreciate. Had the calamari - not bad for the price. Service was great!
(4)Chloe H.
This place is really fun to go to, especially with a lot of friends. Make sure you sit at one of the habachi grills.

WE had a terrible experience at Fuji tonight. The manager DAVID was extremely rude and aggressive toward us and embarrassed us in front of other customers. We moved from a regular table to a grill table when one opened up (with the permission of our waitress and Robin had put her name in for one). At this point the restaurant had died down quite a bit and there plenty of open grill spots. He showed up at the grill table loudly telling us we weren't allowed to do that and wanted the money for our drinks and appetizers immediately. He then told Robin he canceled her existing order for sushi and put it back in- she never got it. I have never been treated so badly and we collectively spent over $100. UNREAL- not sure I will go back. This was the second bad experience with service in the same week- though definitely more extreme. I thought customer service was a priority at this establishment and I have been a loyal customer from Day 1 but I have never before been so humiliated in a place I was spending my hard earned money. I guess they would rather I spend it at Asia House where they treat me like a friend and not like a deadbeat who isn't going to pay...

Just ate here for first time today. Honestly, it is one of two or three places in Decatur I would recommend someone drive an hour or so to eat at. First, let me say that from the outside it is not very impressive. It was converted from an old Petco store in a strip mall and they did nothing to improve the appearance of the place. Don't let that discourage you, though. We were very impressed by the ambiance when we entered. Not too light, not too dark. We were promptly seated at a grill table and we placed our orders. They brought a salad and the standard Japanese place soup which were both very good. Then the chef came to the table and put on the best, most entertaining show at any restaurant of this type I have been to. The food was great and plentiful. Steak, chicken, fish and sushi were ordered at our table and all were delicious. A definite "A" lister and do-again.

This restaurant needs to come with a warning that reads: IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE TO EAT UNTIL YOU EXPLODE B/C THE FOOD IS THAT GOOD...and that is kinda what I did this past Wed. Don't worry, I did not explode, otherwise I could not be writing this review, but I did eat until I got sick...seriously. The food was amazing, but the rest of my evening was basically shot b/c I spent the rest of the night on my back thinking maybe I didn't need to eat all that fried rice and that shrimp tempura roll. Anyways, like I said, the food here is great. I have had their sushi a number of times and it is awesome. If you like things a little spicy, try their volcano roll...it won't disappoint. Their habatchi meals are also amazing. My favorite is the scallop habatchi dinner which comes with fried rice, vegetables, miso soup, and a small salad. If you have never had habatchi before, you gotta come and try it. It is a real "show". Also, major points for their saki, although don't order it unless you plan on sharing...this may have been my other mistake that evening. Finally, major kudos go to these people for their service. My friend has a few food allergies (poor girl) and they were super accommodating and sweet to her. No eye rolling here :) Until next time, Fuji :)
(5)Ajay R.
This place has pretty good sushi. Stuck in a strip mall, but once you get in it's pretty nice. Attentive service, pretty good value. overall pretty fresh and tasty food. B +/ A-
(4)Chris L.
Very consistent and much needed in the Decatur area. I went here many times while working a project at the local hospital. Each time the waitstaff was friendly, attentive, and the meals were prepared consistently. The prices here are on par with what I would expect for this geographical area. One day I went to the Vietnamese noodle restaurant next door just to break the streak of eating at Fuji.
(4)Justin W.
The food is good and the ambiance is different. I enjoy the sushi and the hibachi grill.
(4)Julissa C.
It's a bit more expensive than most restaurants in town but it is well worth it. Delicious food and the portions are huge. I often have my left overs for breakfast. The filet mignon is awesome and definitely the best fried rice in town. If there is a line it is well worth it. If you are on a budget and want to try it go for lunch the prices are better. Make sure you sit at the grill unless you're going for sushi.
(5)Mike T.
There is not much to eat in Decatur, in terms of variety, but I must say that Fuji served Japanese food that rivals many of the best hibachi/sushi places I've been to in the country. Strange that this place would be one of my favorite Japanese places. The grill chefs are very friendly and very skilled so it is a nice show to watch them work. The steak and scallops cooked fresh is delicious and I would love to keep going back again.
(4)Christy M.
Very good food. Awsome chef also. This is alot of fun if you sit at the grill. Even better when you are there in a group. Highly recommend going to one at least one time.
