Bizou Menu

After reading the reviews, there appears to have been a bit of confusion from previous reviews. One wonders to himself, how this establishment can only rate an average of 3 stars? No answer is given. A fine Tuesday evening, myself and the hungry horses of P-town galloped into Bizou and stampeded the joint. We rustled up some grub and weren't disappointed, not even for a second. Our group of carnivorous critics ordered a variety of the best choices on the menu (not surprising) to plunder our palates. My own order, pan seared duck, was smothered in sauce that was sweeter than any bird for which I've ever had the opportunity to partake. The rest of our group's meals fulfilled our desires on a 5-star level. To pair with our orders of steak, salmon, sea bass, and chicken, an excellent bottle of Milton park Shiraz wine was procured from our friendly server. Maybe others have had a bad experience. Maybe things didn't work out in life the way you wanted. But I can say one thing, as we left, I couldn't help but notice the large smiles on the faces within our group. After a fine dinner at Bizou, I couldn't help but grin myself.

Went here for my birthday dinner with my husband. Wanted to try someplace new that we had not been to before. I will not make the same mistake again for a special occasion. The first thing that we received was oysters Rockefeller. Something had been added that made it taste like a pumpkin season was used. I noticed from the menu that they like to do seasonal items, so I'm not sure if that was the reason. After trying the first one, I thought it was an accident and tried a half of a second one. By then, I realized it was not a mistake and was having some sort of reaction to it and asked the waitress to take it back. And told her why. When I received my dinner, the fillet mignon was cooked perfectly (what there was of it) as were the green beans. For some reason the mashed potatoes had the same taste to them as the oysters Rockefeller, but my husband's did not and he said that they tasted good. As for the service, it was extremely lacking and difficult to get any type of attention. Also, felt more like an inconvenience than a customer. Will not be returning to this overly pretentious restaurant ever again.

1-30-15 a table for 2. It took at least 10 just to get a menu. The wait staff kept running around 1 had to sip her drink at the bar. We were in a hurry to order and get moving. Once we got our order in it came quickly. I had the salmon and it was barely warm sitting on hot veggies and cold tasteless rice. The pork chop was hot served with cold greens and stuffing. I do not think the waitress was slow with the food. We were afraid of food poison but starving by 7:30 so we ate it. The best part was the chips and hummus. If I wanted cold food I would eat at Subway.

Went here for lunch with my neighbor. ...cuz we both heard it was kinda fancy but good food! Fancy is not the word I would use, overrated maybe! We both ordered our food I got my entree she got her, and needless to say we were both not impressed, I was so unimpressed that I had to send mine back....(Mediterranean flat bread should not mean slop in a pita bread) re oredered lobster pot pie... Which meant mediocre lobster bisque in a tiny coffee cup and a puff pastry on top... Barely enough to make a two year old full!! And about the other entre that my friend ordered was super dry roast beef in a pita bread...would never recommended this place. ...cuz when you get done going to lunch, and you have to come home and eat... That's bad!!!

We had a party of four. For starters we had the brie cheese with preserves, escargot, egg and steak balsamic piece. The brie was very good and worthwhile. The seasonal steak and egg piece was nothing special and not worth buying. The escargot was good as usual, but typical nonetheless. I had the paella, which was a good interpretation, spicy, but ultimately full of typical sea food and average chicken. I was told the beef Wellington was pretty good. The market price lobster with macaroni and cheese was an odd combination but very good. The whole meal was not a good value, especially the entrees. We did not order alcohol or dessert and the bill was well over $200. Just not a good value in any way for above average food, nothing more.

Was pleasantly suprised to find this amazing little bistro tucked away in downtown Decatur. Nice ambience, great wine list, fresh and interesting specials, and a great dessert menu to finish it off. Everything we had was declious, beautifully presented, and of the kind of quality you'd expect in a big city. Stopped in for dinner with some coworkers, so it was a low key event. We shared appetizers, had a couple of drinks, entrees, and the smores dessert (it's worth getting!) and was not blown away by the bill, unless you count being suprised at how reasonable it was :) Service was impeccable.

I've been to Bizou twice, and both visits were extremely pleasant. It's a bit on the pricey side, but in this case you get what you pay for. The Ahi Tuna...absolutely exquisite. It was prepared perfectly and was so delicate, I have yet to find another restaurant that can live up to the standard Bizou has provided me with. The kimchi and rice were also delicious. The atmosphere is very romantic. This is the perfect place for a special date or anniversary dinner. Both visits the service was very good. Friendly staff who actually knows the menu. I had a chance to talk to the chef himself-very amiable guy who is an artist in the kitchen. Definitely recommend!

I had dinner at Bizou last night for the first time since moving to Decatur 2 1/2 years ago. I had always stayed away because of its reputation as being overpriced. Honestly, I hope people will ignore that reputation. Yes, an entree at Bizou costs more than most other restaurants in Decatur, but by comparison with fine dining establishments in other towns I actually found it quite reasonable. I don't mind paying $23-30 for a delicious, well-cooked, and hearty entree, which includes soup or salad. The same meal in Chicago would probably cost $40 or more. I had the duck entree, and the duck and broccoli were delicious. This review is only not five stars because the roasted root vegetables were a little chewy and kept getting stuck in my teeth. Wines by the glass were very reasonably priced. Service was excellent, and no one rushed us out of the restaurant when my party of four were the last table still there and lingered for 20 minutes after paying. I will go back, and encourage others to give it a visit.

The food here is always fantastic. Yes it's a bit on the pricey side, but you can tell that before being seated - the menu is on the wall if I recall. The staff is extremely friendly. Some places in this price range have staff that can seem aloof, but not here. My wife had shrimp tacos and loved them - and would order the same dish again. I had the special - Shrimp with Spinach Meatballs and Rotini pasta. An unusual dish but really good! We both had 2 drinks from the bar - a "Skinny Girl Margarita" (under 100 calories and very tasty) and a Moscow Mule - served in a copper cup and made just right. For two of us the bill was just under $70 plus tip. We don't eat there often, but we've always been satisfied. Great place for special occasions.

Last night I went here and had one of the BEST MEALS EVER!!!! 1) Duck Confit Enchiladas - AMAZING :) 2) Angus Fillet Mignon in Bearnaise sauce with potatoes and green beans- I ordered Medium-rare and it was cooked to perfection also they didn't serve me any regular potatoes...these had something special going on. 3) Dessert Duo which consisted of a chocolate mouse and pineapple upside down cake - small, sweet and perfect with my cappuccino which I am sure came out of one of those $20,000 cappuccino machines. 4) One glass of Spanish Moscato - this is great paired with just about every meal ;) Dinner was...expensive, but definitely worth every bite and every penny!!!! And to top it all off the waitress was a gem :)

The restaurant has a modern, hip vibe. That is the good news. The last time we ate there, however, the meat my partner ordered was starting to turn bad. When told, our waiter developed quite an attitude. We won't go back.

Dining on the company dime is always nice. That said, I have absolutely no clue what anything costs at Bizou. Literally no clue. I apologize for missing that pertinent piece of information. What I *can* tell you is that Bizou offers some very good food in a very cool setting. The first thing that struck me about Bizou was its artwork. The assemblages and mixed media pieces are interesting and unique and they lend a hip feeling to the main dining room. Our work group of about 30 were seated in a separate room upstairs--not *quite* as hip as the main floor, but still lively with colorful pieces, one of which hides the full liquor cabinet built into the wall (a space-maximizing idea we're totally stealing for our house). And the food--well, there was plenty of it, that's for sure. We enjoyed a few different appetizers: babaganoush with seasoned, toasted pita; escargot baked with cheese and served with baguettes (not my favorite--more garlic, please!); barbecued shrimp skewers and a delicious baked brie served with a very tasty raspberry jam. The dinner menu for our large group allowed us to choose from soup or salad (the citrus dressed salad was very good) and the entree options included steak, stuffed-chicken breast, seared tuna, grilled salmon and a vegetable ravioli. I appreciated the variety of choices and ended up with salmon, which was perfectly cooked and served with a tasty sun-dried tomato and basil risotto. Justin had the tuna and it was just beautiful--just barely seared and so fresh tasting. Who knew tuna would be good in Decatur, IL?? For dessert, there was creme brulee and angel food cake served with warm berry compote and creme anglaise... after all the wonderful food, it was impossible to finish our sweet treats, but my, they were good! I doubt we'll find ourselves in Decatur very often, but I'd definitely revisit Bizou. It'd be a great place to celebrate a graduation (after all, Milliken is in town) or to host a rehearsal dinner. Especially when you don't know what it would cost. :)
