My boyfriend and I went there on a Monday night. We were one of 5 people in the tavern, but given the day I suppose the crowd shouldn't be taken into account. The atmosphere is decent. They have flat screen TVs behind the bar which is good. They have a fully stocked bar, which would have been great if we were there to drink... but we were there to eat a meal. I've heard good things about the place so we chose to come here. It really was nothing special. I have chicken tenders and my boyfriend had a burger and we shared his fries. The fries were over cooked with very little potato inside. Other than that our meal was OK. As I say with this type of food it is "something to fill the hole." It didn't taste good or bad, it just... did it's job. Overall, I can't really judge the place as a "drinking" venue, but as a restaurant... which may be misleading. Maybe this place is more rocking when it's the weekend and people are getting drunk. However, if you're just going to get some food on a week day, I would not recommend Twin Tavern.

Very underrated place to get food or a drink. I'm a city girl but I love this place because it is such a homey place to come for food or beer. The spaghetti Wednesdays are a good idea for a group of friends and their prices are super cheap. Good beer and friendly waitresses too!

I've been going to Pete's for more than 20 years and the burgers are always outstanding. My only knock on them is the fries and onion rings are frozen, but you can't have everything. Great place for a burger and a beer; waitresses are cute too :)

Very good tavern food. Friendly staff. Tricky parking, it's in the rear of the building. Good for the family or beer and a burger at the bar.

Poor burgers, good fries, friendly service, good beer, run down atmosphere. Nothing special about this establishment, but a comfortable place for a beer and a bit of sports TV watching.

Pot roast sandwich and a beer ! Great combo. But everything is great they are always busy at lunch. But service is excellent

Got to love this spot!!! Love to you Mike and the Family. This spot is known not only for the friendly atmosphere, but also its Reuben sandwich. They have a wide range of beers and liquors to choose from. For a great warm spot with family and friends, this is the place. Everybody can find something to enjoy off the menu. With specials throughout the week and specific days for fish fry, you can't go wrong. I personally, can't help but drop in and say hi to Mike and the family when ever I'm in town. It just wouldn't be a true visit back to DeKalb with out a hug and smile from Mike and a warm meal with a cool drink.

Underrated place to get hammered, the liquor store has an above average selection of craft brew, and the bar pours great drinks, best menu item is the potroast sandwich, drink before ordering, great fried chicken, fish fry friday, friendly staff, tuesday is 10% off wine, and tacos at the bar, get your date drunk on some Boones farm kiddos, then buy her two deluxe to soak it up, it'll cost like six dollars, and most students don't know it because it's far south of campus, bro sightings are low

This time I actually "got" to eat. We were basically ignored after we ordered until when the food came. When I asked questions, I was met with eye-rolls from the waitress, and general attitude. I don't know if she hates her job or not, but from my impressions of her, that's a pretty accurate review. The food portions were good, but there was a long hair in the fries...kind of confusing because both of the cooks had shaved heads. Overall I wouldn't go back based on the service alone. Would have called the next day to complain, but didn't think that anyone working there would really care!

First of all...I used to work here and I have to say that the food is outstanding, the people are great and there is plenty to drink. I have only great things to say about Twins!! GO EAT THERE!!!

Though I haven't been there for a while since I'm not in DeKalb as much as I used to be, the Twins is a good townie bar that also always attracted a lot of professors and grad students as well, even though it's not right next to NIU. I do have to correct something another reviewer said: The Twins is not a restaurant that serves alcohol, it's a bar that serves food. That's why they asked for ID. I also found out tonight that they have Greek (food) Night on the 2nd Thursday of the month. I hope to try it next week.

Good food, good service! I was going to give it 3 stars but I thought that was a bit harsh just because I'm a little young for the crowd here. It's an old Townie bar and their food is really good. They just attract an older crowd, I think mostly because of the location. There is a great liquor store right next door owned by the same people, they have a great selection of beer. I'm a fan.

Wow, after all these "glowing" reviews, I was hoping for at least something edible. Typical bar food, except worse. I got the "famous" fried fish dinner, grouper - only to open it up to find some nasty yellow gross old fish stuff coming out of it. My wife ordered the broccoli, only to find it came covered in cheese then deep fried. "Can we have just regular broccoli?" - "Um, no, everything we serve is pretty much just frozen and then we heat it up". Seriously? UGH. I'd give this place zero if I could.

If you're a first timer- be aware the parking situation is a bit confusing. You need to go down the alley behind the building to find ample amounts of parking, the entrance to the parking lot on 4th street is one way - exit only. We went to the Friday Night Fish Fry - unfortunately I am NOT a fan of fish. I ordered the shrimp dinner. The food was exactly what you'd expect from a townie bar fish fry if not a little better. My friend ordered the Broccoli Poppers for an appetizer which we were all pleasantly surprised with - Broccoli, Baccon and Cheese, deep fried. I'd go back for sure, and the next visit may bump this up to 4 stars - we shall see!
