Not likely to be the best meal you've ever had, but my son and I had a nice lunch. I got the Reuben, which came with good crispy onion rings. He got a southwest burger. Nice little extra touches such as a chipotle mayo on his burger. A lot of reviews have commented on the exceedingly friendly service, and that was our experience, too. Keep your expectations in check, and remember you're in a reasonably priced little cafe, and I think you'll enjoy your visit.

The staff is very friendly. Food is delicious and they are always having some fun promotion. This time is eggs....a plastic egg that you bring back to be opened in front of them with a guaranteed win. Possible prizes as big as an Xbox or as yummy as a % off the bill. A winner either way!!

Start with the positive; very friendly staff-everyone, literally everyone checks in to make sure you are ok. Another positive-LARGE menu; lots of choices. OK, the negatives; I ordered the Hobo Skillet; had 2 over easy eggs over hash browns, mushrooms, green peppers and cheese. Sounded good-what I got was two poached eggs, literally WHITE hash browns (obviously not cooked or browned); canned mushrooms; uncooked green peppers and one slice of possibly velveta cheese over the mess. Just not good. My husband ordered a cheese omelette and bacon. Cheese wasn't melted and the bacon was not crispy as he ordered. I will not go here again, but again not the overly friendly service staff's fault. Just too many short cuts in the kitchen.

Had breakfast here and it was just okay. Not bad, the service was good, and the food was mediocre. First of all the fresh doughnuts IMO are fried canned biscuits. That's not a bad thing, just set you expectation to okay. They are served with some canned chocolate frosting and powdered sugar. As I said the food was nothing memorable (good or bad). I had the sausage biscuits and gravy it was bland with just a little sausage, canned? It came with choice of grits or oatmeal. Get the oatmeal, I had the grits. Mainly because I love grits. These came devoid of any seasoning what so ever. It was very busy, so I might give them another chance, but there are better options in Dekalb.

This is a hidden gem in Dekalb!! Don't let the outside fool you, the food is amazing and they have a wide variety of foods including the usual omelets , skillets, pancakes, waffles, French toast. They also have five different types of eggs Benedict and crepes! The service is amazing and very friendly.

It's the perfect greasy spoon. It has the atmosphere of a hometown diner, where if you went often enough you'd be called by name. Tori was our server, and she was terrific. The food is delicious and served in a reasonable quantity. The Ala Maria is a Benedict to live for. My wife really enjoyed her Gravy Lovers Skillet. The service was friendly and professional. Can't wait to go again.

Eew. Just eew. Pretty terrible food. The price did not match the awfulness of the food, and I think they could knock it down a little bit, and then it would be worthwhile. The place looks kind of gross on the inside too. But if you want to pay only slightly less for breakfast than anywhere else in town, and you have absolutely no preference as to the quality of the meal, this is the place for you!

I went to this place 3 times. The first time I went, they were still in the downtown location, and the food, service, and atmosphere were awesome! When they moved to the bigger location, Something happened... I'm not sure what, but it just wasn't as good. For one thing, a male server they had (who is probably long gone) was just one of those guys you want to ask... what's wrong with you? I really like the owner's and how they promote the restaurant. A very nice little business, and I hope they have continued success.

Flippin Eggs is in my opinion one of the best breakfast and lunch diners in Dekalb, not as good as Egg Haven, but way better than the Junction. But where Egg Haven feels somewhat cold and sterile with an atmosphere that reminds me of the lobby of a hotel chain, Flippin Eggs is always warm and welcoming thanks to the friendly staff and kitschy decor. As for the food, the omelets and skillets are decent here, but the standouts include the pancakes and the tortilla soup! Also, Flippin Eggs is the only place I know of in town where you can get a burger with a pretzel bun. The prices here are great, and you really get a lot for what you pay for.

Your typical greasy spoon. Hit or miss most days. Been more than one occasion I've had hair in my food. So don't visit much.

Finished a 10k for Cornfest and was dying for some breakfast food.... and even with BOGO coupon for breakfast, I greatly regret it. Each time I have been there there the food has arrived semi-cold or tasting stale. For starters, I ordered the "meat-lovers skillet" which is a combination of greasy sausage, bacon, and "off the bone" ham with cheese, hash browns, and a few eggs on top. The meal also comes with grits or oatmeal, and pancakes or toast. I chose the pancakes and side order of toast and was able to trade the grits for just a bowl of soup. I have eaten the grits before and they are nothing to waste your time on. For a drink, I had the iced tea. First thing, when our drinks arrived I was immediately put off by the watered down cheap iced tea mix. My girlfriend was also disappointed by her vanilla coke, which tasted flat and bit off kilter. Shortly after when the soup arrived, I opened the crackers and took a bite and was forced to spit them out - COMPLETELY STALE. I mean, who lets that happen? So on to my entrée.... For starters, I was served this mess on a plate, not a skillet. Second, the meat was like a chopped up heap of greasy bits covered in slices of what must be the cheapest commodity American cheese combined with hash browns that are undercooked, oily, strings of potatoes. The toast was barely warm and tasted cheap and stale. When my pancakes arrived I found them to be only mediocre and was somewhat relieved that they still were warm enough to spread butter on. All in all, an awful meal. Don't waste your time, this place caters to those who care ONLY about quantity. And lets be honest here, the prices aren't really any better than other places around DeKalb. I love breakfast food, and I can honestly say that this is the worst place in DeKalb to eat breakfast.

Formerly known as Tommy O's, this is the review I wrote for it then. It is the same ownership, with a new name. If you want to eat breakfast in DeKalb, this is where you should go. A trip to Tommy O's is always met with great glee by my roommate and friends. The DeKalb storefront is warm and inviting, and downtown DeKalb is full of convenient parking. The menu is both extensive and reasonable. Meals come with extras - breakfasts with a choice of oatmeal with cream and brown sugar or grits, lunch with two kinds of soup. The food is always excellently prepared - I have a love affair with the Veggie Benedict, which features avocado and tomato instead of ham (never a brown spot on the avocado), and I've never seen anyone leave unhappy. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful and very, very prompt. Also check out the rewards card - a college student can never have enough potential free food - not to mention that they are always having some fun promotion or other!

This place is a perfect place for a hearty meal after a full night of drinking. If you are a student at NIU its a great stop, the price is right and their coupons do save a lot of money. Their 5 lb. MONSTER Burger is a great way to bring in the customers. But realistically 97 people out of 100 have tried and failed. Can you beat the odds?

I pretty much becasue a regular real fast. They have good food, large menu, fun games the waiter plays with custromers to win stuff. The first time my boyfriend and I went we won a free meal on our next visit. It is a small place and is a typical small town diner but I am a fan! They have pictures on the monster burger when you are walking in....I must say I have a few friends on the Wall of Shame but then again its a 5lb burger lol.

When we were seated there wasn't enough chairs for all six of us and one member of the party had to stand for about five minutes while a chair was located. The table wobbled quite a bit which made for a splashes of coffee from time to time. The overall service coordination at this place was a disaster. I ordered the Steak and Eggs with a Belgium Waffle and the waffle came about 15 minutes after the initial steak and eggs arrived. Another person at my table didn't receive the pancake portion of the order for about twenty minutes after having to remind the waitress several times. It was a miserable experience. The food is pretty basic with the usual over sweetening and salting everything to make up for a lack of quality and creativity. The only reason I give it two stars at all is because there is NOTHING else in dekalb in terms of a brunch/breakfast option.

I'm so sad...its closed on Monday's, but hey...its awesome the rest of the week. Everything is great. Eggs benedict with ham off the bone is the best! As is everything else. The Owners will make aything for you also and are extremely friendly. Downtown DeKalb where parking is usually available nearby if not right in front.

I was really pleased with breakfast here (the sign outside for vegetarian eggs benedict brought me in). Portion sizes are generous and it's nice to have a breakfast place that serves grits. They have huevos rancheros and a veggie skillet too. The "fuzzy belly" (a mixture of various juices) is nice enough. I was really disappointed when I later picked up a half-dozen cinnamon rolls to be presented with a box of thaw-and-serve rolls. The cream cheese icing is really good, but the rolls themselves are definitely that depressing, yup-it's-commercial-off-yellow dough.

Pretty delicious and affordable. Not the best I ever had but the steak or ham, eggs, hashbrowns, toast or pancakes, oatmeal or grits were all good and super cheap. Plus they constantly have great promotions going on or coupons or contests. The decor and stuff could use a little improvement. Would not recommend their country gravy (so disappointing even outside of the major metro area finding good gravy..). Looking forward to heading back and trying that homecut super thick bacon or giant burger. Also intrigued by their homemade donuts and muffins.

I am a regular at flippin eggs. I can be found there at least 1 morning a week with several friends. We keep coming back for the friendly atmosphere and the attention to detail. I am surprised to read some of the other review and find it hard to believe that these issues were brought to the waitstaff or owners attention. When we have had anything out of place or needing attention it was dealt with immediately and happily. Love the Oatmeal, Love the scrambled crepes, love the chocolate peanut butter pancakes, Haven't done lunch much but I do grab a few waffle fries off my friends plates :)

I really liked this place :) It's def a place to hang out and have a nice homemade breakfast for decent prices. Last time I went, I got the avocado or veggie benedict which was delicious and the right size. But the best part of breakfast to me is their amazing oatmeal! OMG! Their OATMEAL is AMAZING. I think they must put crack in it or something cause it is awesome. Also, their MONSTER BURGER is pretty tasty for a 5-lbs burger. Yep, I said 5 lbs. My friend tried to eat the MONSTER burger (there is some kind of challenge), but he was unable to finish it. Fortunately for us, that meant we got to try some of that burger. Def can feed a family of 6 with this thing for only like 15 bucks. So if you want to be like man vs. food, you should try this challenge :) Good place to go for a nice breakfast or lunch with a homey touch. And they have free wi-fi :)

After further review, I found Flippin' Eggs to be a bit overrated. I mean, not bad at all, but it is just a glorified diner (Junction, Blackstone). Basically, the same options as Blackstone, which is what I would recommend over this place. Still good though, just better options!

I've had three visits and Flippin Eggs has become ny favorite breakfast place. I haven't had one disappointing meal, in fact each one has gotten better. In my latest visit I had the cinnamon french toast and easily tasted and enjoyed the cinnamon. The bacon is some of the best I've ever had but you got to like thick bacon. Even the oatmeal was good (oatmeal or grits comes with all breakfasts entrees) though the brown sugar helps oatmeal can be one of the blandest foods but not at Flippen Eggs One of the big draws to Flippen Eggs though is the smallness and friendly staff it reminds me of a small town diner where everyone knows your name atmosphere. The menu is extensive and they're willing to just about make any combination of items you can come up with. I've in my three visits have had something different each time and for me to waver from just simply having something I've had before and know it to be tried and good is a rarity, but Flippen Eggs has several more items that this fussy and finicky bear is wanting to try. My wife Michelle's favorite meal is breakfast and I'm NOT a breakfast person but Flippen Eggs has definitely won me over as tops place to eat breakfast and satisfy my morning appetite
