When I first tried to visit this restaurant a few weeks ago, it wasn't open yet and I was severely disappointed. Finally had the chance to go back, and I'm glad I did. They've finished their renovations, and the interior is tidy and spacious. I ordered ahead and picked up, so I didn't get to experience much of the staff. But the food was perfection. I judge every soul food establishment I visit by its fried chicken first. Any soul food restaurant that fried chicken that ain't right, just ain't right itself. Second to that, mac and greens need to be on par. Same rules apply. Luckily, Daddy's Kitchen won in all of these areas. Mac was cheesy, not watery. Greens hadn't been boiled into soup and were competently seasoned. Yams weren't overly sweet. We've been looking for a local, reliable soul food joint, and I think we've found it. *Of special note: the majority of soul food restaurants offer desserts that are never worth paying for, and in some cases, eating. With that in mind, we still ordered the banana pudding. We were feeling froggy so we jumped. Surprisingly, it wasn't terrible. It wasn't something to write home about and it would never supplant anything we make in our own hope, but it got the job done.

I carried out on Sunday 4/20. My plate was sliced ham, mac and cheese, greens, corn on the cob, a roll and a side of banana pudding. I asked the meat server for, "Ham off the bone." he said, "None of the ham is off the bone, it's just this." And he points with the tong to the ham that's in the warming dish. I didn't know what he meant by, "not off the bone" but it looked good, so I ordered it. 1) The ham melted in my mouth. And when I say melted in my mouth I mean it literally dissolved as soon as it hit my tongue and left this strange creamy texture on my tongue. I did not chew or bite down once. It was bizarre. The ham smelled good, but had no flavor. I didn't even have to cut the ham because it just broke down. When I touched a slice with my finger, I felt a thick, creamy like texture to it, almost similar to crisco's texture. It was not editable. 2) The banana pudding was good, but the wafers were still crunchy. I would have appreciated if they let it sit longer so the wafers could get soft and fluffy. 3) The dinner rolls were fantastic. I didn't eat the Mac because I was very turned off my the ham; and the greens were a brighter green color, which is unusual for greens, much less cooked greens, so I didn't eat them either. By the time I got to the corn I had no desire to eat anything else on the plate. If I return, it will only be for a piece of cake.

I had a very rare taste for soul good. The food was as I expected, just okay. But it satisfied my craving. I took my food to go and only ate half. I had the smothered chicken and two sides that I can't recall. To me, the food was a tad bit better than my memory of Sabrina's- another soul food restaurant not too far away. But, for what it's worth, I have not had Sabrina's in YEARS. The service was as expected as well, just okay. I don't have high expectations for these restaurants. Sorry. If I have another craving for soul food, I just might return here.

My husband and I visited Daddy's Kitchen, and we will not be back. I ordered the Peach Wings special (which was supposed to cost $6.00). My husband ordered a chicken dinner. The service was really good, but the person who took our ordered over charged us for my side. She said the macaroni and cheese had an upcharge of $3.00. Huh? We pointed to the sign in the window that said the wing special included a choice of side, and the macaroni and cheese is listed as a side in the menu. Server said she could have charged me $6.00, but she was only charging me $3.00 for the macaroni and cheese. What? Also, the food was not very good. The wings were only ok. The macaroni was a 2 out of 10 at best, and the main seasoning was black pepper. My husband's chicken dinner was fine, but it was not worth the price of $12.49. Overall, the people were very nice, but the price change and so-so food are the reasons we will not be returning.

I was very excited as we arrived! Great customer service and very nice and clean facility. The disappointing part is we had to wait over 30mins for our food. We think they may have forgot about our order. We watched people order and receive their food. Not to mention our food was room temperature, not even hot. I was not happy at all with this meal! I don't think we will back, it's very unfortunate I really love to support small businesses.

Found out about this place on groupon decided to check em out because I'm always looking for good food especially soul food. From the start the cashier was very friendly and helpful. She got overwhelmed with phone calls so one of the cooks came from the back to take my order to reduce my wait time, very considerate! My order took less than ten minutes to get ready which was great. I ordered the pot roast, cabbage, Mac n cheese and banana pudding. I opted for the pot roast because it's my specialty dish so I critique others pretty stringently! I must say the pot roast was very good, tender, moist, and full of flavor it was also served with potatoes and carrots which is a must for real pot toast in my opinion! The cabbage was very tasty without an overwhelming vinegar taste you get from a lot of places and home cooks. The Mac n cheese was just ok in my opinion but nothing to complain about. The cornbread was a little dry but ok once it hit the juices from the pot toast and cabbage! The banana pudding was very good and sweet I like that they put whole nilla wafers on top to contrast the more mushy texture of those in the pudding. Overall very good food, clean place, with fast and friendly service. Can't go wrong!

My fiancee and I wanted to get something to eat,but didn't want to visit the places we usually go to on Sundays. I looked at my Yelp " Restaurants TO TRY.." list. So we chose Daddy's Kitchen. Let's see what we get... GOOD FOOD...GOOD Service, and we went kinda late so they were about to close. The service was STILL good! I had Smothered Pork Chops with Mac & Cheese, Cornbread Dressing(..yeah, I know two starches..), and Cabbage. My fiancee had ... I forgot, but she ordered some extra Cabbage, and Mac & Cheese to go. So that told me SHE enjoyed it too(smile)!! OH yeah!!!! SHE HAD FRIED CATFISH!!!!...and SHE loved it. The Smothered Pork Chops were tasty, and THE MOST Tender I've EVER had!! For real!! The Mac & Cheese was wonderful, and the cabbage was VERY good!!! You know how some cabbage has a vinegar taste, and some taste like "..ya Mama " made it (..no disrespect to vinegar cookin Mamas..) BUT the cabbage did not have the "vinegar" taste!.. YES!!! It was wonderful!!! I wish we would have come earlier because the place was closing, and we weren't finished yet,but I totally understand. Closing time is closing time...next time come earlier(smile).Let me state that NOBODY asked us to leave,or approached us about them closing. We just kinda knew by the traffic and workers leaving that it was "that" time. Anyway, I think that Daddy's Kitchen will be included on the list of places to consider to eat on Sundays from now on...

I had the smothered chicken with rice which was ok. Cornbread was horrible, greens were bland & the peach cobbler was barely sweet. Cornbread dressing was good. I would have been better off going to Dustie's because my meal plus 2 additional sides and a turkey burger meal was $30. Not impressed at all!!

I just made my first and last visit to Daddy's Kitchen. Ironically, the cashier told me that I would be back. Not going to happen! I ordered the catfish dinner with potato salad, greens, and cornbread. None of it met my expectation, based upon the reviews. The fish was overcooked and extremely salty. The potato salad was basic, lacking onion, celery, egg, relish, and most of all flavor. The greens had a taste that I did not recognize. I think they might have been spoiled. The cornbread was dry and probably was made from a Jiffy box. As I waited for my dinner, I notice only two women of average weight dining there; everyone else was extremely obese. The diners were all African American women, which I took as a good sign. I made an erroneous assumption. I could have done a much better job cooking the meal myself, and I rarely cook soul food. I am very disappointed that one can maintain a business serving that quality of food.

I learned about this place via Living Social deal. I wanted to try a place that had soul food because my husband and I are always on the hunt for restaurants on a Sunday afternoon. Well, we went on Sunday to redeem our Living Social deal and we were impressed. The place is very laid back, the staff is very friendly and accomodating and the best of all - the food was awesome! It is really southern home cooking that reminded me of my own Mother's cooking! It made driving from the city well worth it! My husband and I have resolved that we will be dining there alot in the near future!

This was an unexpected find. I am one of the biggest fans of cajun food and this is a great place!!! The blackned catfish sandwich is amazing. And served with waffle fries! AMAZING. Mac and cheese is baked and delish. Cheesy, and all food was served HOT. Along with fish i ordered gumbo , red beans and rice , and mac..which was all served with cornbread. My only dislike is the beans lacked some flavor , and the gumbo had only a tiny amount of meat but the meat i did have was delicious. Im on my way to this place right now i cant wait!

Most of the meals are good. The chicken wings are exceptional. The corn bread needs work. Most of the sides are pretty good. However, I purchased a double order of macaroni last night that was sour and moldy tasting. I guess it had been siting out too long. Never had this happen before as I am a fan of their mac and cheese (hence the double order). I called to explain to the proprietor. The only thing she would say is they make it everyday. We ended up throwing it in the garbage. I will wait and possibly try the mac and cheese again. But it will take while to get over the rank taste. (hopefully this was a one time thing). Prices are reasonable. Portions are OK . Atmosphere is very nice. Staff is professional and courteous .
