We were staying at the Hampton Inn and decided to opt for a better breakfast; so we decided to go in-town for breakfast at Aunt Maggie's on the Main Family Restaurant. Good decision. We had the pleasure of having Cathy as our server. She was experienced, friendly and outgoing. Good food, good service, good time. I greatly appreciated the cleanliness of the bathroom. The owners, The Rudy Family, takes pride in ensuring that the customers have a clean bathroom. We highly recommend this restaurant and we will continue to make it our first choice in local dining....at least for breakfast.

This is where the Lantern and the Red Apple used to be. Went there because of their ad in the paper..."home cooked" food. First, they dont have a menu, at least not yet. I was told they will have one hopefully in two weeks. The items were getting finalized. Who opens a restaurant and doesn't already have your food and recipes squared away? So now your only option is the buffet. And if that's all you're offering, you better make sure it's really good and not shorting the customer. Second, food was not homemade in the sense of what you think. If you're thinking from scratch... you would be wrong. Green beans were out of a can, corn was from frozen corn, instant mashed potatoes, gravy out of a jar(and salty), desserts out of a box, and rolls out of a bag. The only thing that tasted homemade was the Salisbury steak, which was good. Fried chicken was ok. The honey glazed ham looked like ham lunch meat put in a tray and covered in honey and cooked. Salad bar is minimal. Only toppings at the time were black olives, egg, croutons, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, and celery. Their house dressing is good. Ut was very watery. Service is ok. Server was nice, but could havebeen better. Only got my drink refilled once. Was offered to have it refilled a second time only after the check was brought. My drink had been empty for about 20 minutes. I take issue with a restaurant that touts homemade food, and they cant do simple things right. Potatoes aren't a lot, by frozen rolls and bake them-that at least tastes closer to homemade. And if you aren't going to have a menu, you need more options at your buffet, not just ham, fried chicken, Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, corn, and green beans. NEVER GOING BACK.

Aunt Maggie's is a small town restaurant in the best kind of way. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food hearty and flavory. On Sundays after 11 they have a lunch buffet with fried chicken (greasy, delicious) chicken fried steak(crispy and tasty) mashed potatoes, some veggies, a salad bar and 4-6 different pastries (homemade, I believe.) Oh, and some excellent rolls, too. At $11.95, the value is great. We went after a strenuous hike at the Salt Lick Point Trail in nearby Valmeyer, IL. There's no listing for this trail, but I can't recommend it enough, truly awesome.

I had come by a couple of weeks ago and saw that a new place had come into Columbia. Exciting right!!! Lol The atmosphere was home like . Comfortable and clean . I felt like I could put down some food here . I came for lunch. Buffet only today, which I could handle. Salad bar, hot bar, dessert, and bread included. The salad bar was small. That is okay because everything is fresh and it is one of the few in the county . That was a bug bonus for me . The hot bar had pork loin , chicken and dumplings , fried chicken, stuffing ( dressing) , mash potatoes, green beans, corn . I tried the chicken and dumplings and a price of fried chicken , green beans and corn. The green beans were good . The chicken was wonderful . Juicy , crispy , just like my grandmother made . Green beans were from a can but seasoned very well . The bread was wonderful . The chicken and dumplings were tender , and just wonderful . Yummy . The dessert was okay , cupcakes, cookies, cheesecake, ext..... The Hungarian stolen was okay but dry . On am further note I had my some with me ( age 13 and eats everything in site ) loved everything .

Good food if you are looking for comfort food. Not a huge selection, but most everything is very tasty.

Its a good home style restaurant with buffet. Not a lot of healthy stuff here, so don't come looking for that. But lots of good food with nice people serving it in a nice quiet setting. We have been here a couple times when we are in a hurry, and always find something good to eat and its cheap!

Went here for a Sunday dinner. Only serving buffet. No menu. No rolls or bread on buffet and did not have any. Only pieces of fried chicken on the buffet were breasts. Waitress did not even come around to refill my drink as it was empty. This is my fifth time trying Aunt Maggie's and each time I have been disappointed. I won't be giving them another chance. Sad cause Columbia could use a great set down restaurant.

Aunt Maggie's This is a very yummy place to come to. Basic meals but you will very glad you did come. Price I bet you would be more than surprise. I travel 7 states and if I gave it a rating , that means a lot . It's not the Ritz Carlton, But if you enjoy a good basic lunch or dinner. I would say Aunt Maggie's will fill your needs Blk Jack

The Fried Chicken is second to none, the meat loaf is really good too. Service is friendly and efficient. Nice laid back family restaurant. I have eaten there twice and plan to be back soon.

My grandmother and I went here for lunch the other day, and the buffet is outstanding! Fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, rolls and bread, and a full salad and dessert bar. Everything I tasted was delicious and homecooked. And the price for the lunch buffet was reasonable for all of the food you get. Definitely make sure to sample the fried chicken...it has the best taste and is some of the juiciest I've had. I was so impressed, I asked my husband if we could go back Friday night for the fish (cod and jack salmon was what my parents said they had when they went). We live a good 40 minutes from Columbia, but we will be back!
