High quality and tasty sandwiches can be had here. But prices are on high side to go with them. We tried their Mu Ping carmelized pork ($8.50), spicy garlic shrimp ($8.95), and Korean cheese steak ($8.75) sandwiches. All were fresh and delicious and came with their addictive homemade chips. Prices look to have drifted up since we visited their flagship Elmhurst store back in January. This south downtown location also looks like it is geared to local foot traffic as there is not much available in the way of parking, and what metered street parking there is goes for $6.50 per hour.

Came in with a group in offer, totally worth it. Got the spicy shrimp sandwich, and it was shrimp cooked with spicy mayo. Very good!!! Come for the sandwich!!!! I substituted the chips with cucumber salad and it was ok :/

Bought a groupon and the employees are super sweet but the hours are frustrating (only open til 2:30pm mon-fri), so the groupon was difficult to use. And the food is overpriced, if I paid full price for the wasabi shrimp salad I had, I would have been bitter, especially at the portion size and lack of vegetable variety (only mixed greens, radishes, edamame, and minimal small shrimp pieces). The wasabi dressing was decent, but nothing spectacular. I was impressed by how healthy it was, but not much else. The chips that came with it were house-made but a little old, and again if I paid full price it would have been disappointing.

Accomplishing the art of Asian fusion is, in my opinion, difficult. I've tried out many local spots that create some random fusion-styles, yet many of them didn't make the passing grade. "Zenwich" was another trial, with the help of Groupon deal ($10 worth of food and beverages that could be purchased on the menu). I hardly remembered how much the Groupon cost at that time. This Zenwich location has limited business hours, from 1000 to 1430, Mondays through Fridays. It's located near the Lasalle Metra station (Lasalle/Van Buren). It makes a perfect sense to focus on the office lunch crowds because that area appears to be fairly empty on the weekends. Prices listed on the menu were steep. Thank you, Groupon, for assisting the bill. With two (2) entrees we would have to pay almost $20. Fortunately, both entrees came with generous portions. The Aioli sauce on the spicy garlic shrimp sandwich wasn't unreasonably sweet. The use of arugula was a nice touch to provide a "kick" on the savory-tasting shrimps and Aioli sauce combo. Daddy J., on the other hand, did enjoy his wasabi shrimp salad. He commented on how fresh all the ingredients were. Since I'm no longer a downtown commuting regular, visiting "Zenwich," honestly, wouldn't be the first choice on my mind. Nevertheless, their "Asian fusion" concept was acceptable to my standard.

Mu ping sandwich in rice paper was really good. The rice paper cost an extra $1, kind of pricey in my opinion. Should be a free option given how much (or little) rice paper costs. This would be a good low carb option for customers. The taste of the Mu Ping was great, also comes with chips but mine were really soggy so kind of not all that great. You also get a pickle. Overall good tasting but for the price ($10+ which includes the $1 rice paper upcharge) this is way too pricey in my opinion for lunch.

About 6 months ago I decided I could actually tolerate being in Elmhurst for a few hours if it meant I got to eat at Zenwich. yelp.com/biz/zenwich-elm… Like snow falling on the 25th, it's a Christmas miracle that they opened one in the Loop. Every bit as delicious and about half as crowded cause city folk don't really know about it yet. It's by far the best thing I'll get for the holidays!

Sex in my mouth I say. Meat eaters and veggies unite! The ciabiatta bread they use is always fresh and fluffly. My top three are the Korean beef, the lightly breaded shrimp with a hints of cilantro and the breaded chicken with watercress and wasabi coleslaw. So it's an Asian twist on sammies and Asians don't even like sammies. Go figure, this place rocks! If you are one of the fake "I don't eat gluten" folks you are covered here with their rice paper wraps. The loop needed a place like this and I am so happy it is here! Asian food that is effin awesome and not a piece of rice in the place!

Zenwich is a little off of the beaten path but that in no way means it will not be packed. I was meeting a former co-worker and she suggested this place. After looking at the Yelp reviews I know I was having their version of the Philly. We got there towards the end of the lunch rush and we were able to secure a table. The place is not big so that was a plus. We both had the Philly and it came with chips. I enjoyed the sandwich and it was very filling, we both were so stuffed that we should have bought one and split it. The chips were ok, those type of homemade chips are really only good when they come right out of the oil. The owner was there and he was making the rounds checking in on all of us that dined in. He seemed genuinely interested in the feedback. They have a location in Elmhurst as well and I suggest merely due to its downtown locations size that you go early or later in the lunch period.

I had the Korean Philly cheesesteak. it was just okay. I was expecting a more robust flavor but it was a'ight. Bread was soft and fresh but the sandwich was a little soggy with meat jus....not necessarily a bad thing but just an fyi. I didn't care for the pickles or the homemade chips. I am certainly going back to try other items. I really want to try the healthy versions they offer. This still seems like a good addition for lunch options in the Loop.

Oh Zenwich, how I love you so. And now I can give double the love for your tasty and unique sandwiches in the burbs and the city. Yay for another location! Zenwich puts a spin on the classic sammy that I've never seen. These Asian inspired creations between bread are ridiculously good. It's really hard to choose a favorite, but if I had to it would have to be the crab cake sandwich! The sides are total amaze too. They have these home made chips that are out of this world. The cucumber salad is a fan favorite as well. Definitely give those a try! I have yet to actually visit this location, but they deliver which is ideal for a day at the office. Service is fast and the food shows up in top notch condition. Don't lunch on a boring old sandwich, give Zenwich a try!

I came here for lunch w/ co-workers and had a very tasty time. Décor: It's a small place, with a handful of tables of varying sizes, and a rather small line of people waiting to grab-and-go. The people that choose to stay and eat there, as we did, wait at tables and the food is delivered to you (which is nice). The place is clean and just a typical restaurant feel to it - I don't want to say "fast food" because that has a bad connotation... Bathroom: I did not use it while I was there. Staff: The cashier was friendly and quick and our food was delivered shortly after we found a table and sat down. Everyone was polite as well. Food: The sandwich I had, a Spicy Shrimp one, was fantastic! I was a decent size and came with chips - a solid lunch amount. I added a lot of Sriracha but it really didn't need it to be honest. In fact, I don't know why I kept adding it haha the sandwich is SO GOOD by itself. Value: The sandwich + chips came in at under $10, perfect! A great lunch, that was delicious, and under budget! I am now a big fan of this place and will certainly return in the future; as well as add it to my lunch rotation.

So here's the deal. Everyone at my company loves Zenwich. They are 5+++ stars in love with everything on the menu. And, I don't blame them. I mean who doesn't love a crab cake or garlic shrimp sandwich or a chicken tofu salad? How about those raved about chips and sides? I wish I could say me, but I can't. I feel guilty, oh-so-guilty every time my team places an order, because I have a soy allergy and can't really digest garlic. The menu here is probably one of the most unique menus I've seen. We all know lunch can get pretty boring day in and day out, and here foodies can truly rejoice...but not me. Yep, they make exceptions for those with gluten allergies, but for someone with a soy allergy you'll have to get a little crafty. Mind you, I think I finally figured out how to order the Zen salad, but it's unfortunate that I can't fully enjoy the great flavor combos that make up the menu here. The Zen salad comes with crispy chicken, baby arugula, baby spinach, frisee, sliced asian pears and almonds with honey balsamic dressing. Instead of honey balsamic, just ask them to substitute for a simple olive oil and you'll be all set! Still a great salad with super crispy chicken and a fresh leafy bite. Sorry I have to give Zenwich 3 stars. But, a lot of people are allergic to soy and not just gluten sensitive. Maybe my review will help them consider more simple salads and sandwiches for those who are food challenged. After all, they claim to cater to picky eaters, but I'm frustrated :-( Sorry to my colleagues who always have to make exceptions when we order from here. The good thing is that Zenwich is pretty flexible and will substitute if they can.

This is more of a 3.5 star review. First thing to know: check your order before you leave! Two out of the three times I've been here, the order has been wrong or missing something. These aren't good odds! The staff always seems rushed but also aloof. They need to work on customer service. My other beef (no pun intended): the first time I ordered the Korean cheesesteak, there was nothing but beef and a small amount of cheese. The second time I got it, there was tonnsss of onions on it, and the beef didn't taste like it had been in the Korean marinade. It didn't taste like the same sandwich. There shouldn't be that much of a taste difference between ordering the same dish a week or two apart. Try ordering ahead because you can wait a long time for your food. This is a great new addition to our lunch roundup, but I think there are still a few kinks for them to work out.

This place is super close to my office, and it's one of our new go-to spots for lunch. I've had two sandwiches here...the spicy garlic shrimp sandwich, and the Korean cheese steak sandwich. I found the Korean cheese steak sandwich to be a bit on the under seasoned side, and the spicy garlic shrimp zenwich a bit too heavy handed with the aioli sauce. Both were still tasty, but could be improved by correcting those two issues. The sandwiches come with seasoned potato chips, so no need to get a side....unless you have major hunger pains. The interior has a bunch of high top tables with a trendy look. It gets crowded at lunch time, so you may want to take your lunch back to the office to eat. Overall, Zenwich is a solid choice for lunch in the Loop.

When a business makes Yelp's "top 100 places to eat" list* you know it's going to be good, but Zenwich even surpassed my expectations. I recently called Zenwich one evening and asked if they could cater lunch for 150 people the following day. I could hear the slight panic in Katie's (the lovely owner) voice, but she was up for the challenge. And she was up for an even bigger challenge when I called her the next morning to let her know it would actually be 180 (not 150) people. They didn't have enough bread on hand, but managed to get some just in time. How's that for amazing customer service? There were so many different kinds of delicious sounding sandwiches to choose from. I decided to take half a spicy garlic shrimp sandwich & half a chicken katsu. I figured I'd take a few bites and choose a sandwich because there's really no need for more than a half a sandwich this size. Well, there is when it's a Zenwich. Both were so delicious that I couldn't help, but eat every last bite. I was quite full after that or I may have even gone for the crab cake sandwich and some of the other options. Next time! My colleagues seemed to enjoy the sandwiches as much as I did. In fact, I've never received so many comments on how good a work lunch was, which means we may have to have more zenwich lunches in our future. Zenwich truly puts every other sandwich I've had to shame. Their original Elmhurst location has quite the fan club and I have no doubt they'll be just as popular (if not more) with this new city location. Annnd if they would like to put their 3rd location in the North Shore I wouldn't object. * officialblog.yelp.com/20…

A haiku for Zenwich: Chicken satay yum. Delivered to the Mart, nom. I won't share with you. Zenwich spins my favorite sandwiches - creative, fresh, and delicious. And they deliver...what what? Order online, call, or walk yourself over to this sandwich haven. Or heaven. It's the same thing in this case!

I brought a crowd to Zenwich, hoping it would have same quality as the original Elmhurst location. I wasn't disappointed. We walked in during the tail end of the lunch hour, at about 12:45. There were still about 10 people waiting for their food as we walked in, so don't be surprised if you find yourself waiting 15 minutes for your sandwich. Maybe you can call in your order? In any event, I went straight for the crab cake sandwich, since I didn't think I'd had it in the Elmhurst location either. I had this with a bottle of soda and the chips that come with each sandwich order. The chips, as usual, were very delicious; whatever Asian-inspired spices they use here are excellent. They also were crunchy, and tasted just-out-of-the-fryer; crispy, not greasy. The crab cake ranks up there with the shrimp sandwich in terms of yummy goodness. The crab cakes were lightly breaded with panko and balanced well with the watercress leaves and creamy aioli. Not too much bread with the sandwich either. So I'm very happy that this location is just as good as the other one in Elmhurst. With it being so close, maybe I'll get a chance to try the soups here too.

Best shrimp sandwich I have ever eaten, hands down!!. Fries are good as well. Live the fact that they have a separate veggie menu.

Zenwich made it onto my radar when a friend of mine (Miss Cindy W., a fellow Yelper) planned a lunch trip there for us and a few college classmates. I ended up not being able to join them, but had looked at the menu ahead of time and was intrigued enough to visit them on my own. A few of their sandwiches ("Zenwiches", as it were) looked pretty appetizing - specifically the Mu Ping (pork), the shrimp, and the chicken satay. I ended up going with the chicken and ordered on Grubhub for pickup so that I could avoid the lunch lines. I arrived to pick up my food at around 12:35pm and my meal was waiting for me. Unexpected was the lack of line - indeed, the lack of people, period. 12:30 is generally primetime for lunch in the Loop, and I don't recall seeing any customers in the restaurant when I walked in, only a few employees behind the counter/cleaning up in the dining area. Perhaps this is because it was really cold out, or because this is still a relatively new location and isn't too well known yet. I don't have a whole lot to say about the food itself, and it's exactly this lack of words that really speaks to how I feel about Zenwich - the sandwich was just fine, but there was nothing exciting or notable about it. Not a whole lot of flavor, volume of bread and veggies (tons) totally out of proportion with the amount of meat (not a lot). And the meat was the only thing on the sandwich that really tasted like anything, so the fact that there was very little meat and a lot of bread/veggies wasn't doing the sandwich any favors. Portion size was good for the price, but that's about it. Overall, it tasted fine but just wasn't anything special. Zenwich was okay, but there are better places to have lunch in the Loop. I'll probably stick with Saucy Porka for my future Asian-influenced sandwich needs.

I'm more of a sammie traditionalist, if that even makes sense. I'm all about Asian Fusion and Asian-inspired twists on meals, but for the most part I'd like to keep it off my sandwich, which one major exception to that personal rule being the bahn mi. So--when asked to pick a sandwich from the Zenwich menu for a work lunch, I found myself sort of scratching my head... looking for a safe choice. And by "safe" I mean something I wouldn't be burping up, or something that wouldn't stick with me all day in the worst way. The only sandwich I could find that seemed to fit this criteria was the chicken satay, which I know I wouldn't be a super-fan of. I figured the peanut sauce would be on the sweet side and I was right. I'm not a sweet 'n savory mixed together kind of gal. That being said, I don't think you'll find a better chicken satay sandwich. Zenwich does what they do best--including serving up delicious, hearty bread, homemade pickled veg and loads of cilantro. Like I mentioned, my chicken satay sandwich was on the sweeter side, which if I'm not mistaken is pretty common for satay. I knew what I was getting myself into-- and I think it was still the safest bet for me. The chicken was tender, everything was pretty tasty and the flavors well-balanced. Although I found everything I had could have used a liberal shake of salt during the assembly process, including the pickled veg (jalapeño, cucumber, onion.) Overall, I think you should probably take my review with a grain of salt, UNLESS you read my first sentence and feel the same way about your sandwiches. Otherwise, I'm sure you'll love these Asian-fusion sammies just as much as plethora of other 5-star Zenwich experiences. Me? Maybe it's growing up around so many Eastern Europeans, but I like mine stacked with savory meats, cheeses and the most unhealthy condiments--hold the tofu and and fancy stuff.

Zenwich recently opened on Van Buren near my office, in the space formerly occupied by Burrito Buggy. Zenwich features Asian-fusion sandwiches, with several veggie, vegan and gluten free options. My bud and I wandered in around noon, and there was a big crowd waiting for their orders. However the ordering line was rather short, and we placed our orders not long after entering. Our lunch orders were brought out to us within ten minutes, so that's not too bad considering the lunchtime crowd. We ate at these high butcher block tabletops along the window, so I supposed you can eat sitting or standing if you dine in. Their signature Zenwiches come with a side of homemade chips and pickle spear. My bud and I ordered two different sandwiches to share, and fortunately they are cut in half to facilitate eating. The Mu Ping, seemingly their most notable selection, is stuffed with grilled cuts of caramelized pork, a heap of finely cut veggies (carrot, daikon, cucumber, red onion, jalapeno, cilantro) and tangy sweet aioli. The Korean cheese steak is filled with chunks of grilled soy marinated steak, grilled onion, green onion, mushroom, and smoked gouda cheese. The Mu Ping is good, with a level of spiciness (from the jalapeno, and possibly the somewhat runny aioli sauce) that seemed to build from bite to bite. I really liked the flavorful Korean cheese steak. It is more of a cousin to a standard Philly cheesesteak and not an identical twin, but definitely delicious. My bud also enjoyed his fruity Yuzu lemonade. There are lots of good lunch options in this corner of downtown, and Zenwich has shoehorned itself to become a new tasty spot as well.

The power of Groupon. I came here for the deal, and got the Mu Ping sandwich and substituted the chips for the cucumber salad. I sat down to pull out the sandwich and was surprised at the size of it. Banh mi sandwiches don't really fill me up, so this was nice to see that this had some weight to it. The sandwich had a lot of flavor. I like the combination of what was familiar with the Asian pickled banh mi taste and the American sauce. The prices are a bit higher than a banh mi, but I think worth it. I totally want to come back and try other sandwiches.
