Awesome Thai food. Catfish with bamboo and eggplant is a must try.

I have been to Yindee once before. I stopped by in a hurry and wanted a quick bite before the Addison bus came. That first time the service was quick, they were very kind and I was in an out before the bus came. That being said, I didnt remember much about the food. Today, I heard some bad news and stopped in Yindee propelled by a sushi craving. I came in and ordered quickly. 2 mini mono rolls and 7 pieces of Nigiri. Now, I'm assuming their presentation is always flawless, but I was pleasantly surprised to find my sushi arranged in a BEAUTIFUL flower display. It certainly cheered me up. Next I'm happy to say that their fish portions for nigiri are quite large. most of the fish didnt even fit on the rice. AND it was exceptionally tasty! everything was so fresh, it was nearly intoxicating. Now, I tend to judge a sushi restaurant on a lot of things, but SUPER WHITE TUNA nigiri and UNAGI nigiri play a huge role on if I go back to a restaurant... and this place...JEEZ. I felt faint. I'm actually in the restaurant writing this review right now because I am so impressed. Everything was excellent and decently priced. The ambience is inviting and the host is very attentive. I'm infinitely pleased and would recommend this place to anyone! Thank you, Yindee!

I crazy love this place. Everyone I know crazy loves this place. Yet, no one is ever in here... I don't get it. Full disclosure: I've not had their thai menu, only their sushi, so I can only speak to that. I am a huge, huge fan of no-frills, fresh sushi; I don't need anything deep fried, I don't need papaya shaped into a rose for a garnish, I don't need a $20 corking fee. If you're looking for that, make your boyfriend pay and go to Arami in Ukranian Village because that place is amazing. Yindee's fish is extremely fresh, as are their vegetables and rice. The prices are very fair - especially on their lunch specials where you can get two maki rolls and a miso soup for $9 - and the staff is quiet (not sure there's a lot of English going on here) and pleasant. Love this place. $40 will leave two people full and happy. They serve you soda in a can, which is quirky, but whatever. This place is my favorite.

Delicious food every time! I feel a little guilty when I go somewhere else. The people are nice, and it's a great, not to over the top, romantic setting, if your into that kind of thing.

We LOVE this little Thai/Japanese restaurant. It is right under the brown line and so convenient from our house. When we moved here, we wanted to try as many restaurants as we could, especially the ones closest to us. We tried this one early on, and it was totally worth it. I love their Japanese (Sushi) and my husband loves their Thai. It's the perfect combo! The service is great (most of the time...I've only had an issue once.) Love their after dinner "mints"!

Great service, food and staff! Hope you like your new photo!

My husband and I stopped into Yindee last night to grab a bite to eat before an event. We live nearby and have ordered take out many times (always satisfied). I always thought Yindee was good, but it seems their food and service is improving. I had sushi at another popular restaurant nearby a few days earlier. I ordered a couple apps (spring roll and chicken satay). It was 'meh' at best. Ordered the same apps at Yindee last night and it was spectacular. Our sushi rolls were presented beautifully - and were delicious. It's a great little BYOB so you can't go wrong. The restaurant is very clean, too - including the bathrooms, which is huge. The service was great. Everyone was friendly, helpful and knew a lot about the menu. Can't wait to eat outside later this spring. I really can't believe this place isn't busier.

Yindee is wonderful. Their food is fresh and tastes great. They are so friendly and accommodating. We celebrated a friend's birthday at Yindee and they helped to make is special. Their prices are very reasonable. I live right by them. I was worried about living near a restaurant because of rodents. I can tell you that the people at Yindee are outside constantly cleaning their kitchen mats and other kitchen items. The back of the restaurant is immaculate. Their dumpster is clean and never gross or over flowing. I am so impressed by the way they take care of their restaurant. Definitely check it out. I have never had anything I don't like.
(5)Emily H.
Great lunch special! The staff is relatively helpful, nothing amazing. They're great with delivery and pickup. BYOB makes the place even better.
(4)Stephanie H.
Maybe this place is better for sushi, but I found the Thai food to be rather lackluster. I ordered the pad thai, pretty standard right? It was totally lacking flavor, there weren't nearly enough bean sprouts, and some of my tofu tasted slightly sour. I'd come back here to try the sushi, but I'd definitely pass on the Thai.
(3)Felicia W.
The owner of this restaurant is super sweet. Whenever I have a pad Thai craving I'll stop in on my way home from the brown line (it's practically under the stop) and order some pad Thai. By the time I've sat down and been given a glass of water the food is done and I'm on my way :) according to my boyfriend the only thing they could improve on is having music playing in the restaurant.
(5)Brooke B.
Highly Recommend!! So good and everyone there is so hospitable. BYOB and very cheap prices, definitely will be back! Sushi and Thai available which makes it great for everyone to enjoy!
(5)Misty S.
Came here again for the Scallops Nuggets...they are so yummy! The sushi rolls were also good. Tried the Yanki, Spider, and Shogun rolls. The service was wonderful. It's BYOB and they even heated up our sake for us. The weather was perfect for sitting outside in the front patio. Not the best outdoor seating since it's next to the el and gets noisy, but it was still nice.
(4)LeeAnne T.
Extremely bland, weird tofu in the Pad Thai, cashew chicken was oily and not flavorful. It was edible but I will not be ordering Yindee again.

After having lived in Japan for three years, I'm pretty certain I have a good idea of what constitutes a quality Japanese food. That said, I loved Yindee. On a lark, I popped into Yindee for my second-shift lunch break, not knowing what to expect. Dressed in a heavy industrial parka and work backpack, the classiness of the place was very apparent and made me think I had stepped into a place above my blue-collar budget. Boy was I wrong. Upon looking at the menu I found the prices were very reasonable, and as I would later find, a great value. It was a Friday night, and I'd say it was about a third full of patrons - not empty, but not crowded either. Just right. So far so good. I wanted to mix up my palate with a variety of foods, so I ordered the Vietnamese Spring rolls, which were a light, and flavorful with the right amount of cilantro to "pop" in a way that complimented the vegetables, and the sesame sauce. Not bad at a price of $2.99 for two, elegantly presented. Next, I enjoyed the Thai Chicken Satay Kebabs. Grilled just right, and served with the Satay peanut butter sauce, the flavor leaves you hungry for more. As an appetizer at $5.99, there was lots of chicken to eat, and it came with a side of lettuce, tomato, and a slice of cucumber. I wrapped up my meal with a main entree of Japanese Beef Teriyaki. Served with a small salad and a scrumptious ginger vinaigrette, white miso soup at perfection, the beef teriyaki was cooked just right. The beef's flavor was the right combination of sweet and tart, sliced with perfect precision, and served over a beautiful bed of rice, beside leaves of lettuce. All for $10.99. I could have died happy right there. This was the sort of meal that left me feeling with and overwhelming sense of joy, and elation. It has been a very long time since I had a meal that brought me such pleasure, and emotional exhilaration. The service was fast and friendly, though I suspect the waiter's command of the English language may have been a reason why he smiled so much, and said so little. Regardless, I thought he did a fine job. This is one of my new favorite places. ã‚ãªãŸã«ã‚¤ãƒ³ãƒ‡ã‚£ãƒ¼Â·ã‚ã‚ŠãŒã¨ã†ã”ã–ã„ã¾ã—ãŸï¼ (Thank you Yindee!)

Not much to say. Excellent food, excellent service, reasonable price. I will be back. Side note - I paid in cash, and the waiter gave me very appropriate change so that tipping would be very easy. Its a small act, but it is a few things like this that make the evening low stress and enjoyable.
(5)Ava G.
I was so disappointed by this place. I didn't think it was possible to have bad pad see ew, but it was just not good at all. ZERO flavor, it was like just eating soggy tasteless noodles. Friend got pad thai and same thing. Unfortunately, won't be back. From the other reviews it looks like maybe you're ok if you avoid noodles. But really with so many options in the area, why even bother?
(1)Jeremy K.
After being invited to a birthday dinner here, I had the opportunity to try it out! I thought the food was fresh and high quality. I ordered teriyaki chicken and it was very good white meat chicken with a sweet glaze of teriyaki on top. Their miso was extremely tasty as well. I tried the Ginger Tofu stir fry and the masamon curry, which were both delicious as well. Overall, the birthday dinner was a success and I will be coming back! Much appreciated, Yindee!

This is one of the worst experiences I've had dining in Chicago. I placed an order for delivery. I was told it would take 45 minutes to an hour. After approximately an hour and 20 minutes, I called to check on the delivery. I was told the food was on its way and was hung up on. After waiting another 20 minutes (I live 5 minutes away), I called again. The man who answered was extremely rude, said the food was on its way and hung up on me again. Another 10 minutes later, the food arrived. I ordered sweet potato sushi, but I'm pretty sure it was just fried potato because it was white, not orange. I did not receive the spicy mayo side order I requested, and found 2 hairs in my sushi. The sushi also did not taste fresh. Don't go here, and definitely don't order take out.

Finally ate *inside Yindee (always just get take-out) and I loved the inside! Decor was modern, clean, and tranquil. The waitstaff was so nice, as they always are with take-out orders, and they were quick with everything - water refills, clearing plates, getting food out. The only thing that took a while was our gigantic sushi roll, which we were expecting as an appetizer, but arrived on the table after our entrees. Not a huge deal, but would have been nice to have that first. (it was good - some mango/salmon/cream cheese combo - real nice flavor pairing, but a tad heavy on the mayo) This time we both tried something new: Rama broccoli chicken for me. Delicious. A little sweet, a little spice, peanuty-sauce with ample broc and chicken, served with a big plate of rice. (took a decent amount with me, which served as lunch the next day) Bangkok noodles for him. I preferred my dish, but his was good too. Very thin noodles, chicken, broc. Had a little spice and a fish sauce flavor. Interesting... pretty good. * Bonus points for a super clean, updated bathroom with a beautiful blue sink :) The women's bathroom sign reads "Girl Power", the men's is something like "Man Cave". Cute.

Food: 4 Stars. Off the sushi menu, I've only had the mini maki rolls (not the house specials). Their fish is fresh, and the rock bottom prices more than make up for the fact that the rolls skew a bit to the small side of normal. If you're ordering a lunch special--which you should do, because the deals are amazing (talking $7 for a fish roll, a veggie roll, and a big bowl of miso)--the sides of miso and seaweed salad are actually quite generous. They drop a bit of a red sauce (possibly sriracha) into the usual orange mayo on the spicy rolls which is a nice change of pace, and the miso has much more tofu and seaweed than you usually get. Other than that, the Japanese standards are exactly what you've come to know and love. On the Thai side, I've only experienced the Pad Kee Mao because that's my jam on repeat. It's good--generous amount of veggies--and like the maki rolls, a bit smaller than the typical restaurant portions that have contributed to our nation's obesity epidemic. It's enough to fill me up (I'm 6 feet tall and pushing 180 pounds), but if you're a big eater you may want to order an appetizer with your noodle or rice dish. Prices: 5 Stars. Like I said before, the Japanese lunch specials are amazing, and you'd be hard-pressed to spend much more than $10 on the Thai menu. There are some slightly more expensive maki selections that I'm excited to try out soon. Service: 5 stars. Very attentive while dining in, and I've actually been offered tea on more than one occasion while waiting for takeout.

Another disappointing local Asian restaurant in Roscoe Village. 4 Stars, really! I love the neighborhood, but we need more good restaurants! I visited here for the first time with my girlfriend last week. We were told, when we were sat, that we couldn't order any sushi, as the chef was in yet. Okay? So we thought about coming back another time, but decided to stay. It's BYOB, and we brought a bottle of wine, so we stayed. The waiter, maybe the owner, as us and told us the Thai food is very good. He was very wrong, it was some of the worst Thai food I have ever eaten. The Pad Thai, a good staple item, was not authentic at all. If I didn't know better, it's another Chinese cook, trying to cook Thai and Japanese. You will also see some Chinese dishes on the menu, even thou they claim to be a Thai and Japanese restaurant. We also ordered the Spicy Basil Ground Chicken, which is normally a favorite, but not this time; it was crazy salty, and tasted like soy sauce instead of fish sauce, like you might expect. We had the beef satay to start with, which was very bland. The peanut sauce was good and the cucumber salad was also bland. We won't go back; too many better places in the area.

This restaurant has a Thai and Japanese menu which is perfect for the b/f and I. He hates sushi, but loves noodle dishes and I love both. We can go here and get exactly what we each want and actually agree on a starter. We went on Friday night, brought a glass of wine, sat at the booth and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We started with the pork pot stickers, which were delicious. Then I had two small sushi rolls, spicy tuna and the california. I know I know, the california roll isn't sushi and it's for sissies. Well, I had it, move on. Both were very good. The spicy tuna was very spicy. I like that they have a good selection of the smaller rolls so that one person can sample two and not have to choose just one of those big rolls. The b/f had Pad Siew with beef and really liked the flavor. The noodles were cooked well and the portion was perfect. The prices are good and it's the perfect portion size. You don't get the gross amounts of just eh food like some other Thai restaurants. This is good quality, reasonable portions for a good price. Servers were very nice as well. You can sit outside here, just beware that once in a while the brownline train will come by and be a little loud. Can't wait for another date night at Yindee.

I liked our second meal at Yindee even better than the first. This time we got a dragon roll which was surprisingly delicious and fresh, with great texture (though expensive, at $15). We then enjoyed shrimp pad thai, mussaman curry with chicken, and rama broccoli with tofu. My boyfriend was a big fan of the rama, saying that the peanut sauce was one of the better versions he'd had at Thai restaurants. I thought everything was well-prepared. Nothing we ordered was really spicy, but everything was nuanced and enjoyable. We're worried we might make a habit out of Yindee, on the way home once a week, since it's right under the L. You could place your order from work and pick it up on the way home....this could be dangerous.

*eggrolls and sushi were average. *massaman curry was really good! great service, convenient location, and best of all, byob! pleasantly surprised by my yindee experience :)

This place is great. The food is delicious- my fav is the Tom Kah soup. I know, it's simple and served everywhere, but after having it here, I won't get it anywhere else. Lots of choices, and everything is done well. The service is also really good and speedy. Attentive without being pestering. Don't let the proximity of the el scare you away. My boyfriend and I never hear it while we are there. You won't notice it. Good hours, too. Doesn't close early like so many places.
(5)Christina G.
This place is a solid choice for thai/sushi. While some see its proximity to the Addison brown line station as a fault, I see it as a complete bonus. My husband takes the brown line to work each day and Yindee is right on his way home. Talk about an easy dinner. We ordered dinner for the two of us on grub hub. We had the pad thai and split a few sushi rolls. The pad thai was pretty good, much better than I expected. It had a hint of sweetness to it, which I really liked. Moments after we placed our grub hub order, Yindee called us so we could specify what kind of meat we wanted in our pad thai. We picked chicken, and I was impressed that they monitored orders so closely. The sushi rolls were all pretty good. The fish was definitely fresh. I wouldn't say their rolls are very unique, but they are tasty and hit the spot on a night I was craving sushi. We'll definitely order from Yindee again.
(4)Negro B.
Horrible. I asked to pay extra for fried rice with my dinner instead of white rice. They said. No. I had to buy a full order of fried rice. Really. All others will up charge which is no problem. Will not be back. I can spend my money anywhere. YES IS THE ANSWER WHAT I THE QUESTION. This is why they are dead on a Saturday nite the place is empty!
(1)Heg M.
Not the best sushi I've ever had, but good enough, cheap enough, and walkable from home. Standard, no-frills maki rolls made on the fly, spicy rolls are a must (ask to add jalapeño). Busy weeknight carry out staple.
(3)Ming E.
The owner is very rude and unfriendly! During my first trip in Chicago,I got lost for there are two addison stations . I saw the wifi sign on its window, and entered to ask for accessing to it so I could find the right way to my destination. When the owner got the message that I won`t oder anything, I was refused and told that who only eating there could use the wifi! That is afternoon time, and no one is eating there or using the wifi! Then he asked me to leave without giving any helpful suggestion! I have NEVER seen anyone behaving like this in US!!! I had not tasted any food there. But after this experience, I would definitely NEVER try this restaurant! The owner is so mean!
(1)Kyle A.
I pass by this place almost everyday and finally decided to stop in and try it this week. It doesn't look like that nice of a place from the outside (seriously they need a fancier awning or something) but it's beautiful and cozy on the inside. I loved it. The food was great, the price is right and the portions are pretty big. I ordered the teriyaki chicken which came with a salad and a pretty large bowl of miso soup, and all of that for only $10. And it's BYOB! Will definitely come back here.
(4)Julia J.
Three strikes and you're out, Yindee. You have officially made my list of worst Thai food ever and I will never return. Visit one: Ordered a sushi roll to go and picked it up. B96 music was blaring. 25 minute wait for one maki roll. Roll lacked flavor and was completely uninteresting. Plus it was $12. No thank you. Visit two: Order pickup through their typo-filled online menu. Ordered crab Rangoon pad Thai and pad siew. Both noodles were ordered spicy. Neither had any flavor or heat. Rangoon was small and not flavorful. Thai prices were a little more reasonable for the sushi, soooo.... Visit three: My friend and I were taking a walk around the neighborhood and decided we wanted to grab a bit to eat. Yindee was the closest place, so we decided to go there. The music was under control- much better than my first visit, but everything else was just plain awful. Service was terrible all around- not rude, but not attentive at all. My friend ordered the Tom yum soup hoping the spice would clear her sinuses. She took one bite and winced. Not from the heat- because it was waaayyyy to salty. Gross. We also ordered pot stickers to share. Later we realized that we had to specify that we wanted them steamed- we thought it was weird that they came deep fried. These were also pretty terrible- completely lacking flavor. And then the nail in the coffin- the Panang Curry with noodles. It was by far the worst panang curry I have ever had in my entire life, which was so sad, because it is also my favorite Thai dish. The curry itself was really thick and pasty. Even tough it had a pepper next to it on the menu indicating heat, it had no heat whatsoever. The noodles were thick and slimy and it was the worst concoction of Thai food I've ever had in my life. The inside of this restaurant is cute, but don't let it fool you. Food and service is terrible, and I will never return.

Since moving to Chicago a few months back, I've been on the look out for a good Japanese place. I was excited to try Yindee since it had so many positive reviews. Yindee is the worse of the lot so far. I always like to start off with Teriyaki since its not hard too mess up. I ordered the salmon, the boyfriend order the chicken and we split an order of crab rangoons. The salad dressing was kind of odd... It looked like grated carrots. It didn't taste horrible, just average but the tomatoes were very grainy, like they had been in the fridge for too long. Both of our pieces of meat were extremely dry and bland. Both didn't have much teriyaki sauce and the sauce it did have, was on the rice only. The crab rangoons were just ok. The reason for the second star was the miso soup which was very good and they supplied a large quantity. I'm starting to think that Asian restaurants are not one of Chicago's culinary strong points.
(2)Diane G.
Solid place to get your Thai fix. *their pad thai is ok (definitely not one of the best I've had, not even in the top 5) but if it's close by to you, it satisfies the craving *Panang curry is GOOD here. Ate that shit at an embarrassing rate. =X *reasonable prices (under $7 for most entrees) *one downside is its unfortunate location RIGHT NEXT TO the brown line. [Tip: Don't sit outside unless you want awkward hiatuses in your conversation. And definitely don't have a first date outside unless you're not hoping for a second one.] Still haven't tried their sushi, but will report when I do.

Yindee is a Thai and Japanese restaurant located directly west of the brown line Addison El stop. They offer lunch specials that are well-portioned, an outdoor patio, BYOB and a nice, modern, trendy atmosphere that I've seen families with young children, friends, and dates enjoy. I've been here twice to try each side of the menu, which is literally Thai offerings on one side, and Japanese on the other. THAI FOOD: BAD. It was beautifully plated but... sucked. I mean, it was up there on the worst Thai food I have ever had because it lacked flavor. It's not like I could have asked for salt to make the dish better because it would have screwed up the balance. But geez, I was just chewing at some point. I don't even remember what I ordered so take what I say with a grain of salt, although I can tell you it was off of the lunch menu. Maybe I should have ordered something spicy. SUSHI: EXCELLENT. Yindee's sushi is completely worth it. It was the freshest sushi I have had in awhile, and this includes sushi I have had in Seattle, WA! I ordered the basic $15 without tax offering of 8 nigiri and 1 small maki (see picture). I highly recommend the fresh salmon. It was fatty but not too fatty, AND this a huge testament to well made sushi: the pieces I brought home were still good the next day! The vinegar in the rice was well-mixed and just perfect! Ways to improve: Yindee's drinks are not on their menu. I don't know if they have a separate menu or something, but it would be nice to see something listed. Also have no clue if they offer dessert. So yeah, yin and yang experience here. Go with the sushi.
(3)Alice K.
I ordered from Yindee two nights in a row and I am in LOVE! The Massaman/Panany curry was amazing. I have not had a curry that good since I was in Thailand. Tonight I got the walnut shrimp. I was a little hesitant but it was great again! One caveat is to order via phone for delivery.
(5)Amy W.
I was pretty disappointed with this place. It's close to my apartment so I was hoping for good things, but I probably won't be back. The crab rangoon was extremely bland. There was no flavor. So disappointing because it's my fave! And the Pad Siew was very dry. It had very little sauce and was incredibly bland as well. There seems to be a theme here. I'm not very picky about my Thai takeout, but I was not impressed at all. Flavor is a requiement for me and neither item I ordered had any. This was my first experience and unless someone forces me to give this place another try, this will be my first and last experience at Yindee. I had high hopes, but I'll go back to Thai Thank You or Thai Classic for all of my Thai takeout needs.
(1)S C.
Have you ever had a really bad day and all you want is someone to just be nice to you? Well go to this place. You'll want to take them home with you as your own personal cheer squad. I don't no why people are giving this place such a hard time, I eat here pretty frequently and everything I have had has been pretty tasty. The Tofu Pad Thai is a little to sweet for my tastes, but not inedible. The veggie rolls on the other hand always hit the spot.
(4)Christina S.
This Thai/Japanese restaurant separates the ethnic options by placing them on either side of their laminated menus. Cuter than usual interior might have benefitted from a little more light (the better to see the menus by after dark.) Thai options include most of the standard, noodle/rice options, from Pad Thai and Panang Curry to Pepper Steak and Broccoli with Oyster Sauce. Unusual sounding options (though I did not try them) include Todmun - deep fried fish cake with curry chili paste and Talay Salad - shrimp and squid tossed with onion, celery, young coconut, mushroom and chili. Japanese options are standards across the board - primarily sushi & teriyaki. We purposely ordered straightforward standbys, all the better to see how Yindee rates compared to our favorite local joints. Maki rolls - had fresh fish and spicy tuna was well seasoned. Free add-ons (which included cucumber, scallion or avocado) were a nice touch. Presentation was nicely done. But I'll pass on the fresh parsley and shaved veggie curls next time if it's garnishing overcooked, mushy sushi rice. Too bad. I would have loved to try more - but no filling can make up for bad rice. Tom Ka Kai - a dish by which I tend to judge Thai restaurants, because of the delicate balance of seasoning - at first impressed me. Nice chunks of chicken, fresh galangal leaves seemed pleasant, but after the second spoonful I realized that this batch was lacking a little soul - probably needed a little more fish sauce or something - leaving it a little too sweet and lacking depth. Most disappointing of all, was the Garlic & Pepper with Beef. The "sauteed crushed garlic" was so mild that I was searching for it in the dish, the beef sadly chewy and touch, the peas frozen from a bag and the peppers missing entirely. The sliced carrot rounds were decoratively trimmed, but the sauce overall was lacking flavor. We asked for siracha to spice it up and were happily accomodated - which made me wonder why it wasn't on the tables, as it is on most thai restaurants? (Note: Restaurant guests there just before us had ordered the sukiyaki - a traditional Japanese dish that tends a little more torward the sweet side - I know, I lived there - and had just told the one waitress that there dish was good, but very spicy - too spicy for them. (Note again - I have never had, and almost can't imagine spicy sukiyaki?) So maybe they toned down the spice (or flavor?) in our dish.) It wasn't horrible, but I've definitely had better. Prices for the Thai dishes seemed a little lower than average ($6.75 for noodles, rice entrees start at $6.95) but oddly, Japanese prices seemed higher - almost too high ($10-$20 although that does come with soup and salad). BYOB. Conveniently located next to the Addison Brown Line Stop.

A little slow and there aren't usually many people in here, but it's good food and friendly service. Seems most popular with the lunch crowd and for take-home dinner.

Yuki!..... HUUMMM! (kung fu voice). :).... This is a really quaint restaurant. I noticed it when I was driving and saw the magical acronym BYOB! This alone made me want to go inside. When I was there I was surprised the food was actually pretty good and priced decent. My favorite rolls where the Godzilla and Aloha roll. if you are looking for something nice quaint and quick I would definitly say stop by this place and check it out. You really cant beat the fact that it is BYOB and the wait staff is nice; which is always a plus :).

Great great food for cheap!! Their Currys are really good!

I'm not from Chicago. This is my first, of perhaps several, review of the fine city. My first dining experience in the city was here. My friend lives about a ten minute walk west from here, and this Thai restaurant sits conveniently outside the Addison L stop on the Brown Line. There is sufficient parking on the street that can be found, and worst comes to worst, just take the L or park in the neighborhood surrounding the restaurant! At first glance, Yindee looks sort of corny, perhaps because of the TV and the lack of many people dining. As soon as we entered, however, we warmly greeted and the service for the rest of the night was fantastic. The food came out very quickly, even with a couple takeout orders being prepared and several other tables being served as well. An interesting thing about Yindee is the fact that they sere Thai and Japanese, although I believe no one in my party of five had anything off the Japanese side of the menu. I highly recommend the Basil Fried Rice with your choice of meat. It was rather inexpensive (like most of Chicago!) and extremely tasty. If you are looking for a very solid and inexpensive dining experience, Yindee may be one of the more affordable, fulfilling options for you in the North Side. Being BYOB is also a huge plus, feel free to bring any type of liquor from beer to champagne to wine and they have a great selection of glasses for your beverage!

Ordered take out today and it was really just meh. My pad siew was hardly full and a bit tasteless. We also ordered chicken pad thai and it came full of tofu along with the chicken, but lacked taste too. Will pass on this place next time.

Horrible experience! Do not order online because you will get double charged from online order and restaurant charge! The online order And the people at the restaurant do not speak ENGLISH so there was no way to get things clarified. I had a man at Yindee tell me his name is Nina! And when I asked to speak to the manager he couldn't even get his answer straight. Plus when the carry out said 15 minutes experience a 45 minute wait. Never going to deal w this place again!!!!

Huge portions of fish for nigiri and rolls, really fresh, I'm impressed!! I want to know where they buy fish because it's so yummy!!! Really sweet wait staff as well and the price is not bad at all for what you get. I will be back as often as I can!

The other week my fiancee and I finally stopped in this place. It was great and reminds me a lot of Cozy, except with Sushi. The food was reasonably priced and I always love my BYOB's. We got two Thai dishes and both had really great flavor. I love this places location and the atmosphere was lively. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a quick, inexpensive lunch or dinner!

As a Thai food fiend, I know my way around some curries and noodles. I passed Yindee a few times before I finally stopped in and ordered. The place is small but clean and inviting. I tried the red curry. I asked for it spicy and they did a fair job of delivering, and the flavor was pretty solid. My only complaint: some of the vegetables were not the freshest I've experienced. Otherwise, good food with a friendly staff and sushi that I hope to try soon.

Yindee is an ideal place for my wife and I to eat since she enjoys Thai food and I do not & I enjoy sushi and she does not. So, for us, Yindee offers the best of both worlds - well - at least a suitable compromise for both of us. We ordered delivery service from Yindee over the weekend. We asked for an order of egg rolls, miso soup, two sushi rolls (spicy salmon & spice tuna), an order of shrimp fried rice as well as two Thai dishes. Our order was delivered within 35 minutes and was correct. Two important criteria for delivery service and Yindee delivered. The sushi rolls were both good. Their spicy sauce on the rolls does have a bit of a kick to it which I enjoyed. They also used an appropriate amount of rice when making their rolls - which added to the flavor and texture of the sushi. It didn't feel like I just had a mouthful of rice with some flavor... The miso soup was good and the vegetarian egg rolls were small but tasty. The Thai food was also good according to my wife and neighbor... sorry no personal account for it as I didn't eat it. All in all Yindee served up a nice meal and we'll add them to our list of places for Thai/Japanese in the area.

I finally tried this place tonight. It was alright. I got the pad thai chicken and the tom yum The Tom Yum was some of the best I've had. A real sour/hot kick to it. The Pad Thai was really really dry, the chicken was dried out and the noodles were too. The taste was good but the dryness really got to me. It was almost as if I had left it out overnight. I would maybe go back. I am a fan of Royal Thai but i can see myself getting a quick take out on my way home from work here again.

I'm a huge sushi delivery snob. I think it should be displayed beautifully and colorfully on a plate, in a restaurant fresh from the sushi bar less than twenty feet away. There's something completely off putting, and might I say - just wrong - about putting sushi in a styrofoam to-go box. But darn it, Saturday I was craving sushi and sweatpants at the same time and I just couldn't pick between the two and this gal isn't going to dinner in sweats - no way, no how. So I ventured out of my comfort zone and decided I'd order in some sushi. My boyfriend wanted thai so Yindee met both our needs, offering a decent selection of both cuisines. We orderd Tom Yum Soup (delicious broth), Red Curry with Tofu (could have been hotter but overall a great choice), seaweed salad (standard, good amount), two spicy tuna rolls, one special maki, and a yellowtail with scallion roll. To my delight the sushi came packaged in plastic containers with clear tops and was laid out as if on a proper plate, with ginger and wasabi thoughtfully placed. And bonus - the containers were reusable - I threw them in the dishwasher and they came out clean and perfect for holding future leftovers. Hot items were in one bag, sushi and seaweed salad in the other. They did not overdue the rice on the sushi which I find is the case in many other sushi places I've eaten (Hey Butterfly - talkin' to you kiddo). We will definitely be ordering from Yindee again. And GrubHub made it very easy to order online and it was delivered within an hour which I think is fair for a Sat.

$8.95 lunch special. Comes with appetizer, soup and entree. Tons of food and very fresh. Service is always quick and courteous.

3.5 stars. We will certainly be back to eat again. I have walked past here many times to get to the El, and been curious to what this place was like. We've been on a kick to try all the newer places or ones we haven't got around to visiting for quite a while. Of note is the new outside dining area that is out the front, so that's a reasonably good sign that the owners really want it to work. Inside, the decor is really good, modern and quite relaxing and charming. Has a real laid back feel overall and you can watch all the people who get off the train look inside who are also curious to what is inside the restaraunt. So you window shoppers should try it :) Menu has a good amount of variety - something for everyone really. We had the pot stickers, Pad Kheemao noodles and the rainbow makimono. Pot stickers were good and crispy, sauce reasonable though could be a little stronger. Our noodles were quite tasty - they could be cooked a bit longer to get a little more of that burned taste, but overall they were satisfying especially with the provided lime. Spicy hot sauce was provided on the side though was a little late to get to the table. The Rainbow makimono was quite delicious - avocado was pretty good (always the thing to look for as it can be a fussy ingredient to keep) and had a quite pleasant taste. Service was friendly and polite, and the price was quite reasonable also.

I like that this place was quiet and not packed with people eating in, but there were lot of people taking out... and there is a great window with a view of Addison. The decor is nice. The only off thing was that the bench I was sitting on was at a really weird height that made it awkward to sit and eat at a little. Yindee is BYOB, which I really like. We had the Vietnamese spring rolls which were decent and the deep fried scallops which I thought tasted like fish sticks kind of, and they had a sweet thick dipping sauce which was good. I can not tell you how good the salmon was in the rolls that we ordered! I had two rolls with salmon, the Yanki and the mini mono (which you pick the protein and vegetable), and we had salmon nigiri ... all the dishes had fresh, big, delicious pieces of fish. I also had the Red Dragon roll that had tempura shrimp and tuna and its was amazing. The wasabi was also fresh and delicious. This was a hidden gem that was right down the street from my house and I am happy that I found it!

CUTE little Thai/Japanese restaurant right off the Addison Brown line stop. I stopped here a few weeks ago for dinner. I had chicken pad see iew and the portion was just right for my diet. They do not over-serve you here and that is a good thing. I also shared the Thai custard and it was delicious! Our server was very attentive and our food came out quick and hot. I love the decor in Yindee. The wall against the sushi bar is like quartz brick with neat lighting effects. The bathrooms are spotless and they have nice tile work and cute bowl sinks. I will definitely be back! I just wish they were in my delivery area.
(5)Spencer S.
I live really close, so I'm usually at Yindee once a week. The thai is consistently good, though I can't really speak for the sushi. It's also great that it's underneath the Addison stop, which makes for easy take out. Also! BYO! and BYO located 1 block SW from a Trader Joe's, which makes grabbing wine really convenient ...so there's that. Overall good, cheap!, friendly, & BYO... which is perfect.

Being that I live in Hyde Park and was born and raised in a city in Southern California with a large Thai population, it's not hard for me to say that I've been to a lot of Thai restaurants in my lifetime. So what sets this small restaurant next to a Brown Line station apart from the rest of the Thai food restaurants in Chicago? Simple: the fact that its food is spot-on and that it serves more than Japanese food as well (although, I didn't try in my visit). The beef skewers were incredibly flavorful and had just the right amount of balance in sweetness and savouriness (no, it's not a word). In fact, this balance could be found in the noodles I ordered as well. In my forays into Thai food in Chicago, I have yet to find a restaurant that can beat Yindee in this regard. I would also like to note that I came here in that awkward period in the middle of the late afternoon (3:00-4:00pm) when you're the only one eating, and I was genuinely surprised by how good the food tasted even at such a typically bad time for eating out. Anyway, if you're in the mood for some damn good Thai food, I strongly recommend Yindee. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Went here on a Friday night and the place was pretty busy. Unfortunately only one guy was serving so service was slow, but it didn't affect the experience. I ordered the red chicken curry with a side of steamed vegetables. Great prices, as both combined weren't even ten bucks. The food was pretty good, decent amount of heat and plenty of flavor. I would definitely order it again. No charge for byob, or at least I didn't notice. Good place to check out if you live nearby.
(4)Matthew H.
Yindee is pretty good, I have enjoyed it the few times I have been there. My one issue would be each time I ask for no Cilantro in my soup is always comes with it anyways. Its not a deal breaker so I dont complain about it. I did get a hair in my food once, and they were nice enough to not charge me for it. Though they did not offer to make me something else. But I know things happen, so I will go again
(3)Colleen C.
Terrible experience - the waitstaff was extremely rude. We went to Yindee and were told there would be a wait. We waited 30 minutes to be seated, and upon being seated we were entirely neglected for at least 15 minutes. The waiter brought wine glasses, but he did not open our beer. When we were ready to order, our waiter told us that sushi would take at least 45 minutes to make (he was extremely rude, like frustrated that we might actually want to order dinner). We ended up just getting up and leaving. While the food might be good, the customer service really soured my view of this restaurant.

I just moved out of the area, and I miss this place so much. GREAT lunch specials. Very inexpensive, and always good portion size. The owner is often present and checks in with you, and once you're a regular, they are always happy to see you. The pricing is great, and several of the entrees are exceed expectations. There are several typical Thai restuarant dishes (rama broccoli, pad thai, etc) that I don't order at other Thai restaurants (because they always disappoint). At Yindee, though, I'm always pleased. And full!
(5)Will G.
It sure seems like the thai here isn't too great but, I can tell you, the sushi is great, and cheap. We stuck to the basic rolls but they were all really tasty. This place is just as good as that other neighborhood place over on Southport. Give it a try.
(4)Cynthia M.
Just stopped in for lunch earlier. Empty when we got there, but a young family later came in and someone stopped by for take-out. The interior is very clean and new looking. Gave the place a nice atmosphere. The only thing was that they were playing 103.5, which is an automatic one-star reduction. Come On Ride The Train came on. Seriously. The crab rangoon was better than most places. Pretty cream cheesy but very tasty. I went with the chicken pad thai to use as a measuring stick. Pretty standard. My boyfriend really enjoyed the chicken Bangkok noodles. It was the perfect lunch portion and really fresh. It was decent and the Thai menu was pretty reasonable. We will probably come back to try the sushi one night. The big selling point on this place for me is that it is a 3 minute walk from home. I might amend my rating if the sushi turns out to be amazing.
(3)David S.
Came in to grab a quick bite on the way home from work and was pleasantly surprised. I consider myself somewhat of a sushi snob. Until today my favorite (currently open) sushi was Wasabi house which is in Seattle. First, the selection on the Sushi menu is expansive. Everything sounded good to me. The service was excellent and the food was even better. My albacore nigiri was like butter with that wonderful white tuna flavor. As I was eating my sushi the waitress walked by with some noodle dish that smelled excellent. Eventually as I revisit Yindee I will have to break away from the raw fish for a chance to try the cooked food because it smelled so good.
(5)Little D.
ABSOLUTELY NOT. We have tried this place multiple times and it is just the most flavorless, rancid, sad thai we've ever had! The pad thai is totally bland and dry, the beef in their fried rice tastes rancid, the sweet and sour pork is all soup (more specifically, as my husband stated, "...a microwaveable Swanson thai dinner..."). The owners are so nice, but, it's like they think that this is just a yuppie neighborhood full of people with bland/no taste so they can just feed us garbage! Good God. The absolute worst. Yindee, get a clue or CLOSE. YUCK!
(1)Brianna K.
Pad Keemao is so delicious!! Very reasonably priced too!
(5)Rebecca K.
Great food, super convenient location and a quiet relaxed atmosphere. Their sushi is fresh and fantastic, and their basil fried rice is delicious as well. Prices are extremely reasonable. I've been there a few times because I recently moved in down the street. Every time I have been in there the staff has been very kind and welcoming. I stopped in to order for carryout on a cold drizzly day about a week ago and the server gave me a complimentary cup of green tea while I waited. That gesture meant so much to me on such a dreary and stressful day, and that human touch definitely earned the fifth star. I recommend it to all of my friends and will be back many times I'm sure.

**4 1/2 stars I've had the pleasure of dining here twice- I happen to play pool on a 9-ball league right next door at the Cork Lounge, and I'm usually hungry for dinner, so I was terribly excited to see Yindee open recently! At first, I was skeptical of the menu because it had so many offerings (after all, can you do all of those things well??) but My Pad Thai was quite adequate (not the best I've had but far from the worst) the first time, and last night, LAST night, I got the gyoza (not on the menu, but they are the pot stickers, not fried) and this amazing tuna roll with cucumber and cream cheese, hand made in front of me, for $5! Yum! Nice waitstaff- they gave me a glass of water while I waited and the extra soy sauce I asked for. The decor is kind of Chinese-themed (which is strange, considering that they sell Thai and Japanese food) and cheesey, but hey- who cares? My dinner was delicious, and $10. Thanks, Yindee!
(5)Katie K.
What a wonderful spot! We got off the train looking for a place to eat before going to a concert and we found this gem. Wonderful service, delicious food from an enormous menu of both Japanese and Thai options. I will certainly be back!
(4)Morgan R.
I pass this place all the time and I really really wanted to like it. I even went a second time to give them another chance, but the food is bland and just awful. :-( THe fried rice was a mushy, flavorless mess and the egg rolls were filled with nothing but some kind of unidentified veggie. Ugh. The service was nice, but the food is terrible. The piece of egg shell I found in my take out fried rice was the final straw. There are too many GOOD places in this city to bother with this place.
(1)Sarah L.
Pretty great food, but the service is incredible! Always had water, very attentive staff. No BYOB corkage fee and they bring you frosted beer and wine glasses to cool your drinks. My pad thai was too al-dente for me, but maybe that's just a personal thing. Right by the Addison brown line!
(4)Brian C.
I've dined from Yindee twice, but only ate Thai dishes. The simple rundown: Decor- interior has a simple, swanky edge to it, nice to see in this neighborhood. Food- fishcakes, pad thai, rama broccoli and spicy basil leaves. Very flavorful, very satisfying, portions are not skimpy, nor do they equal an all-you-can-eat gorging. They are just right if you are hungry. So far for me, they have been 50/50 on there being any leftovers. Good for indulging the taste buds and the prices won't break the bank. Even though I think there are way too many thai places in this city, I'm glad there is a one this good within walking distance from me. Getting food from here won't be like opting for greasy-spoon chinese; it will be worth the walk and sit down. Unless they go downhill (which I hope they don't,) I'll be back. Repeatedly.
(4)Bobby M.
Driving to a restaurant and while at a stop light we see Yindee to our left. We could see the contemporary decor inside and felt like taking a chance. We got the Crab Rangoon and Spider roll to start. I really enjoyed those two and want to fill up on sushi at that point. Instead I went with the Pad Thai. Not my favorite dish but I am willing to give other items another chance.
(5)Ryan S.
Cool atmosphere, good service, but only decent food. The sushi is too big, so it falls apart as you eat it & The food is bland.
(3)D S.
We eat lunch here once a week or so. Great specials, good food. (I've not eaten the sushi, but my co-workers say it's good.) I like the noodles and curries. The outside is a bit loud (it's almost directly under the brown line stop Caution Doors Closing so that's not surprising).
(4)Mike S.
Great pad thai and sushi here. The plate had a lot of beautiful color and flavors. The chicken curry dish was decent, but the pad thai is always a great choice here. I get it to go often. Very friendly staff and very authentic style sushi and thai selection. Outdoor seating is available in the spring/summer and fall.
(4)Cindy R.
I've been several times now and service has gotten worse to the point where it's a real problem. The people are nice, but many don't speak English with anywhere near the competency needed. On the last visit I didn't get two of my rolls and had to have SEVERAL discussions with the server to finally get them. I mean, he literally did not understand what I was saying.
(2)Jenna O.
Cute place. Stopped by for quick lunch bite. Decently portioned and priced lunch specials
(3)Rachel N.
This place is great! We have been there twice since it opened and we love it! The prices are low, and the food is great. I don't know what other people are talking about with portion sizes - we left with take-out boxes both times. Hm. One more thing . . . people are complaining about the music?! I loved it! Fun pop tunes that everyone can enjoy :) We brought a big group of people and they were SUPER accommodating (we did have a reservation). Everyone in our group loved their food, not one complaint out of 17 people! The staff is so friendly. The BYOB is a major benefit to this place. We live right around the corner and I am sure we will be back again and again!
(5)Stephen M.
Good prices, good staff, nice location. Surprisingly fresh sushi.
(4)Erin S.
Yindee is great! The sushi is delicious. The scallop nuggets and salmon rolls were both excellent. The staff is very friendly and the prices are extremely resonable. Plus it's byob!
(4)Adam R.
High quality and reasonable. We ordered sushi - carry out, it was great. I like how all the basic rolls are make your own - you add ingredient of your choice. Special rolls cost a lot more but worth it... you get 8 pieces and the one we ordered was really good (red dragon). Nigiri was only $2/ piece, can't beat that.
(5)Erica W.
Everyone has their favorite neighborhood sushi/Thai place, and this is ours. Is it authentic? No. Is it trendy? No. But when you want some cheap and tasty, Americanized pad thai or crab rangoon, Yindee is a great choice. I've eaten both there (hooray for BYOB) and gotten takeout and have always had a good experience with both. Welcome to the neighborhood!
(4)Mark G.
We have dined here twice; our first being about 2 weeks ago. We are giving it 5 stars because it's an amazing value with a fantastic ambiance with good food! Last night we sat outside and we were so surprised the outdoor or the restaurant for that matter wasn't packed. The service is really good. We were waited on by the sweetest young lady who just quietly made it so much more fun to have selected this restaurant to dine at again. Make time to try this place when you want something good and don't want to spend too much money....those are the places I can afford to go back to and that deserve 5 stars because they offer us a much needed option from cooking dinner at home!!!
(5)Raymond T.
Good food, fast service, great lunch specials. I go here at least once a week.
(4)Kate D.
Fantastic BYOB! The sushi is great and so are the noodle dishes. I shouldn't yelp about it b/c we can get in even on a Saturday evening and we don't want anyone to know our secret :) It's a great place to bring a baby to as well. They are so friendly! Highly recommend for family dinner or date night!
(5)P G.
Thai food and sushi under one roof? Be still my beating heart! This place is soooo great - wonderful food, cozy decor and the people are awesome. :)
(5)Charlie F.
Amazing!!!! I love the food and the restaurant itself!!! My new favorite restaurant!!!!! great thai food!
(5)Jazmina P.
Great food for a great price! Lunch specials are great at this place. For under $9 you get soup appetizer and entree! Great deal!
(5)Daisy K.
It's a good thing this place isn't very expensive. It shouldn't be. Rarely do I have to send a dish back- I had to here. Even the simple house salad with ginger dressing was bad. Service was fine.. Place is clean but no music, SO painfully quiet inside! Not coming back.
(2)Jen B.
It still surprises me that this place is empty whenever I go!! Not only is this some of the most affordable sushi in the neighborhood, it is delicious! I love that the menu includes non-sushi options, too. BYOB makes it a winner. Only issue - what's with the no music thing? Let's at least get the radio playing in there, I don't love listening to other people chew! Service was great.
(4)Sarah S.
Yindee!!! Such a cute name! They have a signature Yindee dish for $6.95 which is pretty tasty and simple - seasoned beef strips over a bed of lettuce. Their lemon chicken is a small portion of meat and I'm not sure it warrants the $8.95 price. It is tasty but could use some more sauce and meat. The chicken is deep fried into strips and the lemon sauce is strewn on top but there are many pieces that don't get hit with the sauce so it does need a bit more. Their pad see eiw is solid for $8.95. The spicy salmon roll is a salmon roll with a spicy mayo put on top, whereas the spicy tuna is the normal cut into tiny bits mixed with spice tuna. The sweet potato roll is just alright and I found it to be a bit too dry. The shiitake maki was solid, as was the two tone roll. Honestly, I think Yindee excels in it's non-sushi dishes but even the sushi items aren't terrible. Everything is pretty decent actually. I've found some better sushi spots nearby but if in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to order from Yindee again.
(3)Patrick P.
I live right down the street from Yindee and I absolutely love it! Yindee has an incredible lunch specials menu. They offer large portions with a great variety of appetizers, sides and entrees to choose from. The best part of Yindee is the price: completely affordable. It is so well priced that I tend to dine at Yindee at least once a week, and that's not including when I order takeout! Yindee has great decor throughout the restaurant, and they also have outdoor seating. Awesome plus! Some negatives: the service is not the greatest. Much of the waitstaff is not versed in the menu, which can make it difficult if you have questions about a specific dish. Also sometimes they let you make a spicy tuna roll crunchy and sometimes they say that they do not offer that option... very confusing. Yindee is a great place to go if you want to grab a bite to eat with some friends, or need to grab some quick take out on the go! I recommend it for the Thai/Japanese food fan who is consumer savvy and price conscious. Don't expect it to be something that it's not and Yindee will satisfy you just fine.
