Awesome inexpensive Chinese. It's not much to look at from the outside and I'll admit that I drove past it for years without a second glance. I was pursuing through Yelp one day and noticed it's reviews and decided I had to try it for myself. It's an excellent value and the food is good quality. I got the hot and sour soup, which is some of the best I've had in a while, and not too salty. My wife got the veggie egg roles which were great, nice and crispy. Finally we got an order of kung pao beef which was also excellent. Glad to have inexpensive quality Chinese so close by

Four stars!!! Oh yelp you have done me wrong for the very first time!! My son and I wanted Chinese food and were excited. I ordered 30 bucks worth of food, I threw it ALL away, and if you know me you'll know I'm not one to waste food, ESPECIALLY of the Asian variety. I was so upset. I facebooked my woes, waited a WEEK and am still pissed! I wanted quality Chinese and got garbage, not even quality garbage! The crab Rangoon tasted curdled (cream cheese), egg roll was a greasy mess, I don't even remember the beef and chicken concoctions I ordered but oh Buddha knows it was horrendous! Not even my son who is NOT picky about his Chinese (what 8 year old is?) would finish it. WHERE, pray tell, are the rest of you eating??? Be warned my fellow yelpers! These four stars are misleading and will point you due south!!

Good stuff! We ordered food from Wing Chong for the first time last week and were very pleased with everything we ate. For an appetizer, we ordered the Crab Rangoon, which was pretty tasty. The filling was wrapped in a heavily breaded pastry, so I couldn't taste as much of the filling as I would have liked, but it was still pretty good. We also ordered Shrimp Fried Rice and Chicken Fried Rice. Even though I've had better, I thought they were both good. We had the Mongolian Beef, which was OK, and also the Orange Chicken, which I thought was excellent. The nuggets of chicken had a nice, almost crispy, texture to them, and I liked the sweetness in the sauce. I wouldn't recommend eating inside Wing Chong; this is more of a takeout place. If you call in your order ahead of time, it's ready in about 15 minutes. Wing Chong is really affordable and a good value for the price. They take credit cards, too, which is a big plus in my book. This is my new go-to Chinese takeout joint!

Was in need of some Chinese food on Friday night and enlisted the help of the yelp community. Wing Chong was what I came up with and I was very pleased. Ordered the Hunan Chicken for delivery and was impressed. The egg rolls were fantastic, reminded me of those from the House of Hunan in Lincoln Park. The main entree was great, I was happy that Wing Chong didn't shy away from adding a little spice. I hate it when places hold back. The chicken was definitely the highlight of the dish and the accompanying vegetables complimented it nicely. Delivery was fast and overall price was just right. I'll be calling Wing Chong again next time I'm in need of some Chinese.

?????? I don't get all the big star reviews, at all. It's not good. It's not horrific but it's not tasty. I broke my own rule on Chinese food reviews on Yelp and went with Wing Chong, being blinded by all the stars. From now on, it's 1-2 star places, if that. The hubs ordered cashew chicken and wonton soup. He said the soup would have benefitted from being wonton-less. I had egg rolls and chicken lo mein. The egg rolls were flavorless and filled solely with cabbage. The outside was more like a batter than an egg roll wrapper. I screwed up on the lo mein -- I thought it was going to be the spaghetti noodle type of noodles. When I ordered, she asked "pan fried?" I said ok, though I wasn't entirely sure what she meant and she seemed in such a rush. I ended up with the wrong thing, my own fault. Turns out what I wanted was in the next grouping down on the menu. I've never seen lo mein not as the spaghetti type noodles though. Maybe I'm the uneducated one, I dunno. I don't know anyone who really reads a Chinese food menu though -- we all know what we want and scan the menu to see if it's there. Really? Less greasy? My chicken lo mein was greasier than a bottle of Astroglide. It was flavorless as well. I asked the hubs how his meal was and all he said was "fine." A star for being nicely inexpensive. It did take just shy of an hour for delivery on a Sunday night, not too far from their location, which was a bit of a drag.

I have to admit... I've never actually been in Wing Chong. I live about a block away and order deliver every now and then. I had it last night and the leftovers are sitting in my fridge waiting for me to come home and devourer them! I've ordered from a few different places in the area and this is by far my favorite Chinese place that delivers to my house. They have the best food, they are always quicker than the time they quote me, and they deliver guy is so nice. I always ALWAYS get the pan fried dumplings to start. They are steaming hot and perfectly cooked. I am always tempted to get two orders of them and only eat that, but man cannot live on dumplings alone! (or woman in this case.) Last night I had the General Tso chicken as I do every time I order. It's General Tso plus one other dish. It's always spicy and the chicken is perfectly cooked. My tip, dump the container into a bowl or something. They put veggies in first, and the chicken in last. If you just scoop out of the container, you'll just get the chicken and miss the wonderful mix of mushrooms, peppers, and other veggies they put in there. Plus then you'll have a bowl full of veggies for leftovers with no chicken. Always gotta plan the leftovers! I also had the Pork Vegetables with Garlic Sauce. Perfectly cooked pieces of what seem to be roasted pork with veggies that still had a crunch to them in a nice spicy sauce. Loved it. It was a first for me but definitely won't be the last. Over the years I've sampled a few of their dishes. Their beef and broccoli is up there with my mom's (I'm half Asian so I'm not making that up!) The fried rice is all good. I usually end up getting the pork fried rice. The lo Mein is Cantonese style which is sorta strange to me... It was sorta Ramen type noodles which I've notice at a few places here in Chicago. I'm not a fan so I'll stick to the other dishes. The sweet and sour pork was perfectly crispy with a huge container of sauce on the side. Kung pao? Yes please! Hot and Sour Soup is one of my favorites. Sometimes I order it and save it for the next day. It's so good and full of veggies and things, unlike some places that mainly give you broth. When I want chinese food and don't want to get out of my PJs... Wing Chong is it!

Dumplings were delicious. Then it was downhill from there. Orange chicken had good flavor but was too saucy for my tastes, good if you want the sauce to completely cover your rice. Mandarin style stir fry noodles were very greasy and the "hong kong" style wonton soup is just normal wonton soup with tons cheap maruchan noodles thrown in- resulting in very little broth for the whole soup. Also, I feel i need to say that just waiting there for my food made me reconsider eating there- the floor looked like it handnt been swept in months. Go here if it's super convenient or you only have $3 for their lunch special

Good, cheap, fast delivery and right around the corner. We like the crab rangoons and General Tso Chicken. Will continue to explore this place's menu and maybe try and eat in one days soon.

General tsao's is too thick and sweet. A good Chinese take out place gets this right. Wing Chong does not.

My husband and I just moved to the city a few months back and last night we were hankering for some tasty Chinese takeout. This was our first night ordering Chinese takeout and I was depending on Yelp to help a sister out. Unfortunately this restaurant didn't live up to Yelp's four star rating. The food was just okay and seemed to be lacking flavor. We ordered the wonton soup, egg rolls and the sweet and sour chicken. I enjoyed the soup and egg roll more than the entree but not by much. From a service standpoint the food was ready when I arrived, reasonably priced and the staff courteous. Based on this experience I would not return.

Glad to see this little family-run joint is still going. Solid Chinese food and large portions at incredibly low prices. You can dine in but there is zero ambience. Do not bring a date here. They could benefit by having their menu online but I did find it on chicago.menupages.com/re…

This one was tricky because I have friends, one of which is a chef, that just love this place. I found the food to be good when I tried it. The issues came when I stepped in the door and saw the filth. Now I will say that they have made some effort over the past year to do some painting and cleaning, but it is still pretty bad. I found information on the City of Chicago website that supported my hunch that all parts of the restaurant might be in the same condition. If you choose to dine in you should also be prepared for there to be one very overwhelmed woman taking care of the dining room. The dining room only seats like 26 at most and I have never seen more than 8 people in there at a time, but she runs around as if she were waiting on 100 customers. She is nice, but very short with guests and has little table-side manner. I just can't recommend a place that can't keep a clean dining area and kitchen. It is sad that they can make good food, bu tare hurting themselves with their housekeeping.

Yes it is a hole in the wall and really a carryout place...it's not fancy but the food is great and the prices are really great. Its a family run place, they've been there forever and they are really nice people....they really pack a lot of food into the takeouts, so be careful opening them! They have a great lunch special for $2.95, fried rice, egg roll and fortune cookie...its a ton of rice too much for just one person. They are also fast so its great if your super hungry and in a hurry. Try it once and you will be hooked!

Cheap Chinese food and yes it's good! I'm sure everyone has their favorite quick fix chinese food joint. Well mine is Wing Chong. I found them from their reviews on Yelp and yes it does live to the hype of reasonably priced yummy chinese food. They have daily lunch specials starting at a little over 2 dollars and change!! You can't beat that! Their portions are also generous. I have to reiterate, I don't buy it because it's cheap, but because their food and level of service is great. I've tried most items on their menu and they never fail to deliver in terms of taste and cost. Their food is consistently fast. I've never had to wait longer than 10-15 minutes either for dine-in or take-out! It's also consistently good. I too have tried from many other Chinese food take-out places in the area. None of them have I returned to except for Wing Chong. Granted, they are no P.F. Changs nor did they ever intend to be, if you want quick and reasonably priced Chinese food, look no further, Wing Chong does deliver (both literally and figuratively speaking). Try the egg rolls, crab rangoon, fried rice, kung-pao anything, foo young, shrimp with lobster sauce (the shrimps are big and not overcooked), you will not go wrong!

I love this place, I live near by so I order from this place a few times a month. Being from a strong Chinese/Japanese food background from restaurant work this place has its own hits and misses but overall I like this place! The egg rolls that come included with the Lunch menu ($4.25, egg roll, fried rice and entree HUGE portion) usually suck, ordering the Egg Roll appetizer usually gets you two huge fresh eggrolls. The lunch fried rice is also not very fresh, however I'm used to it being made fresh to order in my past experience. This place is very inexpensive and very fast. The inside decor could make you want to cancel your order. The General Tso is absolutely amazing, but lacks constancy one week it's very spicy to the point where it's inedible and the next week it's perfect.

First time ordering from this restaurant. The lady was nice and polite. I ordered chicken fried rice, crab ragoons, Kung pao beef, and beef egg foo young. Everything was good except the egg foo young, it tasted bland. I will order from here again just not the egg foo young.

When I moved into this neighborhood, I was initially amused by this restaurant just because of it's name. C'mon, it's just fun to say! And then, eventually, when I had a craving for Chinese food, Wing Chong was the first place I thought of. Also it was the closest. I've gotten takeout from them several times and every time I've been pleased with both the food and the service. The General Tso's chicken is probably the spiciest I've ever had- wowza! Eggrolls, very satisfying. The crab rangoon is quite good and actually has crab (imitation?) but nonetheless it's not full of just cream cheese. Last night I enjoyed some great cashew chicken. Oh, and large portions. Even when I get a small order I can make at least two meals out of it all. They really stuff those takeout containers to the max. Basically if you're in the neighborhood this is a great little takeout joint.

This place is the bee's knees, but make sure you carry out, or take advantage of their delivery (with $10 minimum order)- the dining room isn't exactly glamourous- or even acceptable, really. But the food... Damn, you gotta get their pan fried dumplings (be careful, they spit!) And their orange chicken is uhMAAYzing- the closest I've tasted to my favorite orange chicken sauce, Big Bowl. Communication with phone ordering is a breeze, if you get what I'm saying and their prices are really reasonable as well. Open late too-- 9:30 on Sunday and 10:00 on Friday and Saturday. 5 big ones from me? You bet.

I heart wing chong! Every time we get food from here it's super yummy and I am blown away about how cheap it is...we ordered enough food for 5 people and it came to less than $30. And I quite frankly find the hole in the wall and kitchen style atmosphere quite charming...

This place was a welcome find. In a neighborhood lacking in everything, this is a quality place. The Furnishings look like they may have been bought at a garage sale, but don't let it fool you. The staff is friendly and quick. I have been far from disappointed. hours 11am-9:30pm tues-thurs 11am-10pm Fri, Sat 2pm-9:30pm Sun

I'm from San Francisco, CA - Where the Chinese food is the best you could get in the entire United States. One in three people that live in San Francisco are of Asian decent (mostly due to the Golden Railroad projects that took place in the history of the State of California and San Francisco being the major hub between Asia and the United States). My standards for Chinese food are very high! I've had the best - even the weird stuff (like birds nest soup, chicken feet soup and one big serving of fried pork fat dressed in a decadent brown sauce). Wing Chong is AS CLOSE as it gets to the taste I remember enjoying back home in San Francisco. It is by far the best Chinese takeout I've ordered in the city of Chicago (and I've lived here 5 years! VERY reasonable prices with VERY generous servings. It doesn't get better than this!

Being new to Irving Park, I decided to try out different Chinese restaurants. Wing Chong was a big disappointment. First, I called and was abruptly put on hold for a few minutes. But that wasn't my main gripe. The delivery guy came here and gave me a pencil to sign my credit card receipt with, which seemed a little sketchy. Worst of all, the food was awful... extremely salty, to the point where I didn't even want to eat it. The portions were really, really small too. (Perhaps good since the food was inedible) I'd recommend Mayflower... good prices, good food and even their small portions last me three meals.

i love having this place less than a block walk from my house! 4.70 for an awesome pepper beef lunch special. a lot of people diss the interior in other reviews, but the fish are cool! i keep wondering what i have to order to get one of THEM on the plate :)

Wing Chong is your quintessential hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. While I don't recommend dining in (the linoleum floor and stiff chairs are a nod to their cafeteria style decor), take out and delivery are great options for this restaurant. This place is outside of Chinatown and Argyle street so you won't see much duck on the menu - or in their windows - but their menu is large and they have most of the dishes you'd crave. The food is cheap and comes in huge portions. Three cheers for Chinese leftovers, yum! Even a small goes a long way. The food itself is pretty good. Not great, but definitely better than average and way less greasy than many other Chinese restaurants in the area. Some of my faves are the egg rolls, wanton soup, and their General Tso's chicken, which is not overly sticky and has the perfect amount of spice. Their beef dishes aren't the best, so stick with Chicken and you'll be happy.

I have to give them an extra star, because they provide awesome customer service. The only thing i have to do is call saying i wan to place an order for delivery and they know what I want and where I'm located....all by just my voice! Love it!

Another great late dinner choice from Wing Chong! Seriously the Mongolian beef was incredible tonight. Onions were perfect and the beef was like butter, I don't know how they do it! The GT Chicken was good but a touch too sweet for me, still I finished it. Overall a+.
I never would have tried this place if someone didnt reco it to me. It is great!!!! I live close and order a lot from here. Its always great. The owners are really nice and service is very good. I think I have had almost everything on the menu and the food is rock solid yum. Im most impressed by their Shimp they use. They use bigger shrimp than most Chinese places ive ordered from. Everything here is fresh and delish. Try them!

So far everything I've had has been on point from the hot sour soup to the mongolian beef. Generous portions, great food, even better prices, I mean their lunch specials have got to be the cheapest in the city, $2.99 for gigantic chicken fried rice that most times I cant even finish, and a mini egg roll. Even the dinner prices are pretty dam good. Really glad I stumbled on this place.

Great neighborhood chinese food. We order from here almost weekly and the food is always great and consistently delicious. The owners are nice and friendly. They have awesome crab rangoon and teriyaki beef sticks. Other favorites of ours are the Mongolian beef and Hong sue shrimp. Pretty much everything have is delish. Love this place.

Picked this place simply because it's walking distance & open while I was severely craving Chinese food and BOY OH BOY was I pleasantly surprised! The food was tasty, I'm an egg roll snob & these were bomb-biggity and prices were on-point! Don't let the place's curb appeal distract you...good food inside!

Ok it has been almost 2 years since I ordered and here we go again, 2 hours for delivery??? Then they do not answer the phone when you call to find out where the food disappeared to? Stay away from this place, no stars if possible, food arrived cold, did not offer any type of compensation, disappointed once more, I am calling quits with this place, NEVER AGAIN! Would also add when I went over there to talk to a manager I noticed how filthy the floor was throughout the place, along with the walls and counters, makes me wonder how the health department is allowing this place to remain open.

Since I moved down the street from this place, we order from here close to once a week. YUM! And you would never know it from the outside. It is family run and small. The woman at the register is very friendly and fast. The food is almost always really good AND CHEAP! I get the Kung Pao with Tofu and it is excellent. The crab rangoon is addictive and the beef teriyaki sticks are awesome. My daughter gets their shrimp with brocolli and they always cook the shrimp perfectly. My husband likes their curries, and he says they rock. I only had one bad meal and I had ordered their Shrimp Egg Foo Young-which typically is really good, and the bottoms of the patties were burned. I was pretty bummed. But that only happened once. For the money, it is a pretty good, hearty chinese option.

This place is no good. I have been here three times and each time is worse than the last. It seems that their idea of flavor is to add more oil. Everytime I eat there I get a terrible belly ache.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

You bet.
(5)Lauren B.

My husband and I get dinner from here every other Friday! If we had it our way we would have it every day! The mongolian beef is out of this world!!!! The service is out standing! I would recommend this to all my friends!!!

(1)Angelique R.
Nothing really special about Wing Chong that I noticed. The eggrolls were good and the price was reasonable. I probably wouldn't eat in either, but we did pick up. The staff was very friendly.
(3)Jack H.
Great deals on carry out. The small size lasts 2meals and the egg rolls are killer. No need for date night in this place....bring it home and enjoy.
(4)dj g.
Delivery is fast and food is best in the area. Tried the competition and almost stopped ordering Chinese all together. This place is the only place in the area we order from period.
(5)matt d.
i love having this place less than a block walk from my house! 4.70 for an awesome pepper beef lunch special. a lot of people diss the interior in other reviews, but the fish are cool! i keep wondering what i have to order to get one of THEM on the plate :)
(5)Alexis H.
(4)Ryan J.
I have to give them an extra star, because they provide awesome customer service. The only thing i have to do is call saying i wan to place an order for delivery and they know what I want and where I'm located....all by just my voice! Love it!
(5)Jim h.
Another great late dinner choice from Wing Chong! Seriously the Mongolian beef was incredible tonight. Onions were perfect and the beef was like butter, I don't know how they do it! The GT Chicken was good but a touch too sweet for me, still I finished it. Overall a+.
(5)Amanda H.
OK, anyone who gave this one star is crazy. For décor, maybe, but for food...I dare you to find me a better basic Chinese restaurant for the price. I have deplored the stark absence of good Chinese food in Chicago (and most major US cities, for that matter). Embarrassingly, I have lived within walking distance of Wing Chong for over 3 years but never ordered from it...looked too sketchy. Then a neighbor said it's awesome and we gave it a shot...got dumplings, orange chicken, kung pao...and it was EXCELLENT! So much better than the only other place I considered passable...a much fancier Chinese restaurant in Logan Square at about 4 times the price that will go nameless. You must try. Just don't...eat...in.

Try them!
(4)John M.
Damn, I almost forgot about this place. This place rules the school. Really nice people and very good food. At one point I ate here so much I had their phone number committed to memory. There ain't much in this 'hood, but I will recommend this place.
(5)Nick H.
(5)Ron T.
(5)Crystal R.

Hot, Fast, and still Affordable. Our family favorite since 2007. Go-To answer to 'what's for supper?' Everybody Wing Chong Tonight!
(5)D. K.
(1)Megan H.
Great prices for lunch special. Food is ok. My biggest problem is that they never seem to be open during their posted business hours. I have called to place an order several times with no answer.
(2)Flora C.
