I went there for party and the upstairs room in divided with an inside/outside area. There is the bar on the inside with refrigerators and an outside patio area that was really nice to enjoy in the summer time. I have not eaten in the downstairs main part of the restaurant yet but from what I saw it's the typical Greek decorations.

The food is mediocre, service incredibly slow and pricing is off considering the menu and location. The upstairs patio is beautiful and has a comfortable layout although it was spoiled by other patrons smoking cigars (pretty sure that violates the CIAA 2005).

BLAH, not horrible, not really good. Went here for lunch today. I must preface this by saying that I am of greek desent so I have had all kinds of greek food, homemade and out at almost any local restaurant. The food here was just, well, bland. The egg lemon soup was not lemony. The spanakopita was just ok. My friends souvlaki was SO small. I have not seen shish kabob this small at a restaurant. I probably would only go back to have some drinks and appetizers on their outdoor veranda.

love the souvlakia here and the octopus...these are the only thing im ordering in these place and are always great and better than any other greek or not restaurant in the chicago land area

I drive past this place all of the time so when a friend of mine that lives in the area suggested it, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try it. There aren't many restaurants in Portage Park so I was excited to try something new. When you walk in, there is this huge bar. It might be a little to big for the space. Don't get me wrong a bar is always a good sign. The service was very good but the place wasn't very busy when we were there at 8pm on a Friday. There are all sorts of meat on the menu, after all it is a Char house. it was hard to choose a cut. I loved the prime rib kabob I ordered. It was tender, well seasoned and perfectly medium rare. The Verandatini I had was very nice as were the Pomegranate martinis at my table. My local friend ordered the steak and shrimp. The shrimp tasted a little fishy to her. The table split the peach Melba. The dessert list was a little lackluster. I'd go back if I were determined to stay in a fabulous parking spot but I wouldn't go out of my way to go. It's definitely not Gibson's but they had a table for us at 8 pm on a Friday. Have a couple of drinks and a steak!

I have never been here and not had a wonderful meal! The steaks are huge and very reasonably priced and not once, not once have I been there and not had a free dessert! They are welcoming and very attentive and the patio is the best in the city. This place is a hidden gem! One of the best places in the city but very "neighborhood". If you don't like "neighborfood" then don't bother. The more for me! The first time I went there, the owner gave me a plant clipping straight off of a plant on the patio! How awesome is that! And then when we left, they told us to go out back through the kitchen so we would not get wet. I love love love this place!

After four years of passing the Veranda Inn Restaurant almost everyday, we decided try it. We had a chance to meet the owner and his daughter who was visiting from Greece. The food and the atmosphere was excellent. Items we tried: * Grilled Octopus Cold served with olive oil, vinegar and chef's garnish * Saganaki Flaming cheese * Fried Zucchini Lightly breaded and fried * Spicy Mediterranean Shrimp * Broiled Prime Rib Eye Steak Each of the above items would come highly recommended by us. So, if your in the neighborhood stop it is worth stopping. Hours: Mon-Fri: 11am-2am Sat: 11am-3am Sun: 12pm-2am Serves: Lunch, Dinner

My boyfriend and I LOVE this place. We've been here many times.Their drink specials are awesome, and their food is good, too! They have a nice rooftop to sit outside on a beautiful day!! My boyfriend, and I came once and it was packed on the rooftop, and the owner asked my boyfriend to help him set us a table and then he treated us with lemon drop shots, which we were pretty happy about. Overall, price is reasonable, food is good- it's def our go-to place!!! We recommended this place to all of our friends!

OMG, Awful. This one falls into the don't walk, run away as fast as you can category. 4 of us went there today. Ordered a salad, the taziki, feta cheese plate and a salad. The salad came out first 35 minutes later. It was the wrong salad, which was interesting because when I saw the check the waitress wrote down the wrong salad even though she point out the correct salad on the menu twice. The taziki tasted off and the pita was cold. Food was bad, service was worse. The 2 wait staff were arguing. Oh by the way, the place was virtually empty but I guess there is a reason for that.

On an average, non-crowded night, we watched, from our rooftop table, as other tables got served around us. Wait for food: 1 hour, 35 minutes. Waitress forgot silverware and took an inordinate amount of time to get around to us as other tables came and went. Food is good and locale is great but Holy Moses, folks. We were there for a birthday, so it wasn't in the best interest to blow up; the woman who was managing walked around asking how things were, well good for everybody else. Got a1 out of 4 drinks wrong. Waited over 45 minutes for bread and to order. Had to flag waitress down for silverware and plates for the bread. Wasn't offered the special (waiter at another table offered it to HIS diners who were promptly served... three tables around ours. I was asked "You didn't want a salad or anything, right?" but wasn't asked that when I ordered, so if it came with it, who knows. The elements that ARE right are the decor, parking, and food is good. Careful on the rooftop dining: wind was too strong for comfort. Great location, canned Greek music. All of the elements of success are there and I'm told, if we'd have dined inside downstairs it would have been faster.

The drink specials are great. I had a five dollar martini tonight. Also, they have a really nice outdoor roof deck. My chicken wrap was delish...its not fancy food by any means, but a good lil' night out. Plus they were attentive:)

I went here during the week with a friend. We sat at the bar. She had the gyros plate which was delicious and I had the Athenian pork chops which were good but not great. I probably should have gone for the bbq. Our bartender/server was great. After dinner, we went upstairs to the Veranda. This veranda is breathtaking...rose bushes, lemon and apple trees, basil plants....We saw it at night so their were also little lights strewn across the ivy. It would definitely fun to throw an event there.

This is just an ordinarily nice place. It's not spectacularly good or spectacularly bad, and it strikes me as one of those very reliable neighborhood places where you go when you don't want to schlep all over the city looking for a decent meal. The staff is very friendly, and the place wasn't crowded, so we got a table right away. None of the food was exceptional, but it was good. The tamarosalata (on the house) was very good. Saganaki was crisp and tasty. Egg-lemon soup wasn't lemony enough but it was still good. I was a little disappointed on two counts, though. First, the codfish with skordalia that I ordered wasn't available, and then when I ordered pastitsio, mine was the only entree that didn't come with veggies. I have no idea why. I did end up eating a friend's broccoli and some of her carrots because she isn't real big on vegetables, but the broccoli was kind of over done (Though it was a lovely, bright green, which I didn't think was possible at that stage of cooked-ness.) Carrots were properly cooked, though. The bread was good, not great, ditto the chicken and pork chops. Dessert was baklava, and I'm pleased to note that it was a big piece (I just now finished it up while writing this review.) and not over sweet. The waitress was helpful and friendly, the portions were generous, the service very good, but not pushy or intrusive. It is just a nice, basic place, and I plan to go back. I don't expect to get anything outstanding, but I do expect consistency, and that's not at all a bad thing to expect from a restaurant. Not a destination restaurant (except for the cupcake competition, I guess) but if you're in the 'hood, you might want to check it out.

Cupcakes. That's right. Cupcakes. I came to Veranda for the cupcakes. Confused? Don't be! Veranda was the host of the first Iron:Cupcake Chicago challenge, and if you know me; well, you know why I was there! Let's talk about how great this place is! A little further west than what I normally travel, however parking is a breeze with both a small lot for customers and plenty of non-zoned street parking. It's quite spacious inside (and apparently they have rooftop dining, which I missed) and the staff is incredibly gracious. While waiting around for the judges to eat their cupcakes I sat at the bar and had one of their specialty martinis - the Black Martini. Oh my. So good. Very very cherry. Not too sweet, not too strong. Ugh. Now I want one. I also ordered gyros because as weird as it sounds, I don't really eat cake and I was so hungry. It came with soup of the day which was okay, but the plate itself was stacked high with the meat. I like my meat. Only downside? Not enough pita or tzatziki. My plan is to go back again and again. My next trip? July 6th. Around 6pm. So if you're in the area, stop in; eat some Greek and chow on some cupcakes. The whole thing is kinda awesome.

I regularly go to this comfortable and quaint restaurant with one to three people for a late lunch or for dinner. They have a friendly, attentive staff. I enjoy their flaming fresh saganaki (which they prepare "well done" per my request). We usually order their delicious steaks, pork chops and/or lamb chops (Greek style, never tried their Cajun style). I've mostly been in the main dining room area. I have been to the rooftop terrace but be aware that there are many stairs to climb and there's no elevators. I've never been to the small outside spots. There is a small parking lot but you can park in the neighboring streets.

I live in the neighborhood and love to support businesses around here but although the place is nice and people are nice. The food is not good at all. Overpriced and nothing to write good about. Used to be Greek and now trying to cater to more an American fare it needs a lot of work. It's too bad but I can't say anything good about their food

The upstairs deck is great. Except the waitress forgot we ordered and there was a wedding going on. We never got our drinks or food.... They should have closed the upstairs!

Can't even rate the food because we left. It's an 80 degree day and they have a rooftop patio that doesn't open until 5pm. Ridiculous.....

Last Saturday we celebrate my husband's birthday at Veranda...the best party ever: exceptional fresh food: fried calamari, dolmades, stuffed chicken, beets with garlic sauce, Atlantic salmon, pork kebab, etc.; right away service ( they had another party going downstairs, but we didn't evem feel that, because everything was so organized and on time). We feel like the party was organized by our family: super nice and friendly atmosphere. We had our own party room, own music...we dance and had a lot of fun..all our guest are super contented and promise that they gonna celebrate their Bdays with you guys. The speciality of the night was the roasted pork..never in my life we eat such a good cooked pork..it was melting in the mouth...thank you very much for all that..now all our weekend are reserved for a meal at Veranda...Efharisto guy and i'll see you very soon

Food was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Lamb chops hit the spot and so did the saganaki. I think that's how u spell it. Sat upstairs on the rooftop very pleased with the whole overall experience. Planning on going back soon.

Just as many previous customers I found myself driving past this location as a local. Decided to give it a try. Went there on my own to check it out first, chatted with Chef Angelo for a bit then made a reservation. Invited our bf's to join my wife and I for a very pleasant dinner. Food was great and fresh as they do promote local vendors. Mojotos were great......get em by the pitcher. Dined on the rooftop.....a bit chilly but still great.

Probably one of the nicer restaurants in Portage Park. The inside looks great and the staff and service is top notch. The food is consistently good, but the prices are a little over the top, especially in this neighborhood. And although the ribs may not be as good as at Gale St. Inn, they are still excellent and you never have to wait for seating on a Friday or Saturday night.

This place is never really busy, which is one of it's more charming characteristics. The owners have put a lot of effort to create a really pleasant atmosphere, and it shows. Unfortunately the menu doesn't meet the same level of quality. There aren't too many different options as dinners go, so if you don't like meat this might not be an ideal spot. That being said, everything I've had here has been slightly above average. It just hasn't been good enough to justify it's price. There isn't much in the way of deserts and drinks are kind of pricey, but they make a damn good cup of coffee. I'd go back, but I'm in no hurry.

Place was recommended by a co-worker of mine. After going there for a Friday night dinner, I am never going to trust that co-worker ever again. The waitress was inattentive, even though there were only 3 tables with people at them in the entire place. Waitress walked away before we were finished placing our order. Waitress also could not get the saganaki to light on fire, and the saganaki was average tasting at best. Me and my friend ordered Mediterranian Chicken and Talapia, both of which tasted ok. Outdoor area is small, but has a huge mosquito problem. When we requested the check at the end of the meal, waitress took 25 minutes to come back. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE.

My friend's been talking about this place. He likes this restaurant mainly because they're open late and it's never crowded (that's probably a bad thing for the restaurant). I finally went and had the best burger I've had in a long time (that, or I was just really hungry). I recommend the Signature burger and the pineapple yacht w/ ice cream and chunks of pineapple. This restaurant is a little out of the way from the Chicago nightlife, but residents in the area can enjoy the great food and live music.

Great rooftop joint in the area. Feel like you're somewhere else and not in the city. Drinks are also good up there. Try the Mojitos which are tasty and freshly made. Service is also good...friendly and attentive. Food however was hit or miss. Pita bread, pork and chicken on a skewer, Greek fries with feta where a huge hit. We should of just ordered that. Then we had the lovers plate with steak, chicken, and veggies. Just ok and meat was honestly too dry. Really wanted to love it. But we also had the Greek salad and that was better. They have a ton of drink options and fun space to hang for a while. If it's nice outside, I'm racing over here.

The atmosphere was decent was happy to see a rooftop restaurant in my neighborhood. Unfortunately that's the only thing this place has going for it. My husband ordered the gyro wrap special, being at a Greek restaurant we had high expectations. The gyro meat totally tasted frozen. I got the tricolor pasta with tomato basil sauce and chicken for $13. And a $2 pork kabob. The pasta sauce had to come from a jar. The chicken was okay. My pork kabob didn't come out with the rest of my food and when I flagged my server down to inform him he told me it's on it's way and pork takes 25-30 minutes to cook. When it finally came out it was burnt and way to chewy to swallow I spit it in my napkin. Save your time and your money.

The reviews were so mixed I had to find out for myself. Well I wasted 2 hours and $40. 1. The service was incredibly slow. -appetizer came at the same time as my sisters food. -My food came about 10 minutes later. -put down food that wasn't ours. We told her and she picked it up and took it to the correct table. -waited for ketchup for about 10 minutes. 2. Food sucked - sisters fries were cold. Mine were well cooked. -asked for my burger well and it was so pink. -gave us a cup of ice and warm soda so that was nice and flat. There was also a lady smoking. It's outside but don't think it should be allowed. It kept blowing right at me. Thankfully the food took so long she was gone by the time I ate. The only way I'd recommend this place is if you have plenty of time to waste and aren't hungry. We didn't try any alcoholic beverages so can't comment on how those are. The most annoying thing is that roof is awesome but there is nothing else to match. Went on 7/23/15

For a wedding reception (my only time here), I was a little upset. Service was not great. For the entire cocktail hour, no water was placed on the tables. Water, in fact did not come until dinner was served...maybe an hour and 30 into the reception. I was really confused by this. Then, the staff did not care to help the wedding party move the wedding cakes or cupcakes. The food was ok. No real taste to anything other than the roast beef. Standard catering overall. It was good space if you are looking to have a small reception here. I would recommend a food tasting of the catering serving.

This is a charming, little Greek restaurant with lots of potential. I came in with a party of 5 at 2pm and we caught the swing shift. This means that there was only one waitress so service was slightly slow. Also we were disappointed that the rooftop patio was not open, but with one waitress, what can you do. Even with the rooftop bar closed, the windows open up to give the seating by the windows a very alfresca feeling. The drinks there are reasonably priced, and the mojito's were excellent. They were served in a mason jar and had a nice flavor, not too sweet, and not weak either. I then had a chicken cheese steak wrap which was very tasty. I also sampled some of the shrimp from another dish and they were also very good. The Kabob looked excellent, it was make up of very large cuts of meats and veggies, they pre took the skewer out for you as well.

My husband and I have passed this place a few times already and we decided to come here for our belated Valentine's Day dinner. We went on a Monday (our schedules are very different) and I was surprised by the interior and the customer service. It's a Greek restaurant, it's bigger on the inside (Dr. Who joke!), with beautiful paintings of Greece on the walls. There is plenty of parking (it's not a busy area but they do have street parking and also a lot in the back). I ordered a gyro plate, my husband ordered the mediterranean plate, with a glass of Greek white wine for myself and a cuba libre for my husband. The wine was not to sweet; it had a slight mint aftertaste (which was lovely!) and my husband's cuba libre didn't have Coke; instead, they used a soda water which made it less sweet, which was a nice touch to it (so it wasn't overwhelming). Both the entrees were delicious - fresh and tasty. They were pretty big portions too; we brought home leftovers. The ambience was quiet; there was only one other patron there, and the tv was on the news/sports, but it wasn't too terribly loud. It's nice for a date night. They also have a rooftop, and it's probably busier in the summers. The only drawback was that their credit card machine wasn't working but they don't have an ATM, which didn't make sense because they should have told us before we sat down. Regardless, they ended up being able to run the card afterward. Just be weary of that! Otherwise, overall, the customer service, food, the pricing was reasonable, and ambience was quiet but not so quiet where it was awkward. We're definitely coming back!

My bud and I had dinner at Veranda Inn last Friday. I have a feeling he has passed this place many a time, and was drawn by the possibility of al fresco dining on their rooftop garden. I've never heard of this place anywhere other than having heard about it from my friend, but what the heck I went along with it. Veranda Inn has a small parking lot behind the restaurant, though my bud chose not to park there but on the adjacent side street. We walked into the main dining room and it looked pretty quiet, so we decided to climb the long stairway to the rooftop garden which was reasonably busy though not full. It was a perfect summer evening, not too hot or cool, not rainy nor buggy. The garden atmosphere of the rooftop was very pleasant and took your mind away from the traffic zooming down Irving Park Road. We have dined on rooftop patios in Athens in the past, so we remarked that all this place needs is a view of the Acropolis. I opened the menu and was underwhelmed at the listing of diner style specialties. However since I thought this was a Greek establishment, I was looking for Greek specialties. Indeed many of the Greek dishes were not on the regular menu other than the flaming saganaki ordered by folks at an adjacent table - OPAA! Our cheery and charming server read to us the day's Greek specialties (some were also posted on a chalkboard), and described them when she was unable to pronounce the long Greek names of the dishes. The beer list was actually a cutesy handwritten list, and I went Greek and ordered a Mythos. The slices of bread were decent with some olive oil. We each ordered the soutzoukakia (Greek meatballs) as the main course. The dish came with either spaghetti or rice, a side of veggies, and soup of the day. I went with the egg lemon soup, which was thicker and chunkier than any version I have ever had, and my bud's navy bean had a stew-like quality to it as well. The meatballs and rice in tomato sauce were fine with a small cup of parmesan cheese. The Greek potato wedges added to the heartiness of my dish, while my bud went with baked potato. Probably the highlight was the Greek dessert specials, as we again passed on the "regular" dessert menu selections such as cheesecake. Although I imagine the baklava was good, my ekmek and my bud's galaktoboureko were both lavishly rich dessert choices. Both were large servings with generous amounts of whipped cream and drizzled with caramel sauce. I have had galaktoboureko before (sort of a custard pie with phyllo dough), but I have never heard of ekmek. This was an impressive pile with a bed of sweet and stringy kataifi dough (I think that is what this stuff is) topped by custard and then whipped cream. What a delicious way to end a very satisfying meal atop the Veranda Inn. The final tab was very reasonable as well considering all that we ate. I'd say "go Greek" with your menu choices and you should do well here.

They have a pretty big drinks menu, but they don't have a big variety of food.Saganaki-No Way! Greek fries-no! Grilled octopus was pretty good! The roof top it's really nice and green, go there only for drinks!

  • J. Chuck K.

We have lived in the area and driven past Veranda countless times, but hadn't tried it until now. Of course, we had to eat on the roof top and weren't disappointed by the atmosphere and decor. The service was good and I liked that they had a Greek beer, but my entree was really lacking. The saganaki was really good and so were the Greek fries appetizer, but the lamb chops not only lacked flavor, but looked bizarre. Each chop was a different size and the portions really varied. I'll assume the bad lamb chops were an isolated issue, and come back to try something else on the menu.

Bad news, food so so.Service very bad.place is very dirty especially the bathroom.Over priced and a very small menu. The on line menu is not correct.$ 8.00 cocktails ,Did not have many greek dishes more like taco bowls and wrap.No gyro on the menu.No wine list.Menu said flaming cheese ,we received melted bitter cheese that was obviously put in the broiler,so why do thy put opa on the menu?

The patio on this place is great-- only downside is that it isn't open earlier in the day. When the weather is this great, people want to get out and enjoy the sunshine with their meals, not sit in a stuffy restaurant when there is a beautiful patio waiting. Food was decent . Nothing spectacular. Just basic home-cooked food. Service was a little slow, given how few people were there, but it's a home style neighborhood joint, so impeccable service is not to be expected. Willing to give it another chance simply to enjoy the patio.

The place was almost empty when I went there. The lamb chops were pretty average and actually lacked in flavor! More effort needs to be made with the preparation of lamb and its seasoning.

What a restaurant this could be versus what it is.... The ambiance is incredible. The indoor sitting area and bar are in an exquisite atmosphere of dark wood and great windows, plants etc. The rooftop sitting area is just beautiful - nothing comes even close in Portage Park or any other surrounding area. The wait staff tries really hard to do their job and please the customer; however, they have quite a job to do. They seem to always be short staffed and if you're on the rooftop they have to wait for a food runner to go up and down stairs with your food order. They need a new menu/ better cook and a more efficient system to get the food to you on the rooftop. First and foremost for me, it's all about the food. The choices are way too limited on the rooftop and not that tasty. If you have a small menu then each item should be really really good - not just okay. I ordered the Mediterranean dish this time and I was really disappointed - it changed since the last time I ordered it. It was so bland I had to add flavors from my husband's dish to "spice it up". Because of the ambiance and location, I keep trying to give them another chance. It took so long to get our food and then they forgot to add a main ingredient! They asked us over and over if we wanted bread, which we said yes over and over but it still it never came. This place could be awesome if they would just focus on improving the menu and food and finding a better system for delivering hot food to the rooftop. If they did, I would be there all the time and I would post rave reviews (I sure wish for that day)!!!

One of the few terraced restaurant options in Chicago. This little gem features a beautiful rooftop terrace with comfortable plush couches and green vegetation for a bit of that "Dinner in the garden" feel. Its great for get together's with groups of friends, with a healthy menu that offers delicious mediterranean cuisine and Greek beverages. I personally would not recommend the Greek beers - although the wines are excellent. The appetizers are delicious. I'm giving it five stars for the wonderful customer service that I've always received every time I came here, the waitresses have always been courteous, friendly and attentive. Its a beautiful place, and a great summer/spring/fall option.

Went to Veranda the other night with a group of friends. We got a great seat on their beautiful patio. Great. The service was OK, not great, but we weren't in a hurry. The drinks are reasonably priced but it's a bummer they don't have any draft beer or a better selection of bottled beer. The saganaki was pretty good. The "onion blossom" (onion rings) was cold. The menu is pretty lackluster and the food is just OK. I felt it was pretty overpriced. There were NO vegetarian options except a veggie pasta which was not tasty. My friends who ordered the chicken kabobs liked them pretty well though. One thing that was pretty much a dealbreaker was that the whole restaurant smelled like cigarette smoke. The bathroom, the bar, even the patio was pretty bad because many of the guests were smoking. I might go back for a glass of wine and some saganaki on the roof, but wouldn't choose it for dinner.

After sooo many years of passing by this place I finally had it and what's funny is I thought it was Italian and to my surprise it was GREEK! lol Well I came here the other night with a very dear friend of mine as she treated me for my Birthday and we sat upstairs in the patio the weather was perfect for it too!! Came around 830ish and it was a bit slow but none the less the place is beautifully set up!!. For our appetizers we orderded Saganacki and it was Pretty good a lil on the burnt side but it was actually really good and I enjoyed it and so did she as we both finished it! lol They had some kind of martini specials going so of course we had to have one or 3 lol The Watermelon Martini is tooooo DIEEEE for!! once you finish it the pieces of watermelon are still in the glass and boy do those suckers soak up all the liquor pure bliss I tell you!! Now for our main dish I ordered a Greek Chicken breast Plate that had 3 large pieces of chicken, rice, a roasted potatoe and some veggies. I wasn't completely WOW'd but it was pretty good the rice needed to be cooked a lil longer and the Chicken was a little dry but still had some good flavor to it. And I think the potatoe was by far my favorite and that's only me being biased cuz I love POTATOES!!! lol... My friend had a vegeterian pasta with shrimp and boy those shrimp were nice and big and she seemed to love every bit of it!! Our waitress was extremely friendly and was also being shadowed by a girl who was training who was also really nice. The General manager constantly floated around to ensure everything was good. So overall for my first time here I really enjoyed myself food was great and drinks and ambiance are wonderful!

The service here is terrible. The waitress took forever to take our order and she kept forgetting to bring us our drinks. We probably waited over an hour before our food came and she had the order wrong. We had to wait another ten minutes for her to bring silverware for my husband. I would be more understanding and wouldn't have written a bad review if the place had been busy but it was really quiet when we were there. I couldn't really understand the bad service. The menu looked pretty good but the food was just okay. It wasn't really seasoned at all and didn't have much of a taste. The bar looks like it might be nice though....

Came here on a whim for date night with my wife, the place is really nice, big and clean ans the rooftop patio is beautiful. That's about all I have good to say, I'm not a picky person, but the menu didn't have much that interested me, a bunch of burgers/wraps and haphazard mixture of entrees. The server was nice, but lacked much server sense, she didn't really know what beers they had and didn't take my order, when she brought out my wife's food neither of us were sure I had actually ordered, we just decided to share her food and get out. We had the chicken philly wrap with fries, fries were good the wrap was ok but I wouldn't reorder. I think I'd only go here again for drinks on the rooftop.

Its my birthday and my cousin and I decided to eat out close to home. We came to Veranda. Angelo was our waiter. He was amazing. We got great food and history on Greece. The food was delicious and was a great way to end my birthday! :-)

Stopped by for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. Beautiful decor with tables on levels to create more intimate settings. Great soup and salad. We plan to check it out for dinner soon.

I have had dinner a few times at the Veranda Inn in the last few months. By the name or the look outside, you have no idea this is a Greek restaurant. The place is almost always empty. The waitresses are kind and prompt, but they should dress more professionally when they greet the public. I had a chicken dinner and it was somewhat dry. I imagine it came from the freezer which is why. The breaded chicken pieces were all uniform indicating they were made by a machine. However, I have had different chicken and steak dinners and they were pretty good. They are a nice group of people, but they need to put some zap into that place and get a crowd. Perhaps a Greek theme, a new name like Veranda Greek Island or something. Perhaps they can convert to a Greek sports bar and restaurant. But the place is dead.

Crappy service, food wrong. I wanted to go to this restaurant because we like greek food, it looks great on the outside, and has a rooftop seating area. So we went, but were told no rooftop seating because of a private party. Oh well, sat inside, then were promptly ignored by the wait staff for 15 minutes - no menu, water, etc. Ordered eventually - ordered flaming saganaki - they flamed it by the wrong table, brought to us 2 minutes later! No silverware (had to ask), no salads that were supposed to come with the meal, no soft drink refills for me (woman) but yes for my husband... Food was average, took ages to come, cold. Not only will I not go back, but I will badmouth this place to anyone who asks. They made an evening out an exercise in rage.

ab fab...can't wait to go back. my friend and i went on a monday night. the place was dead, except for about a dozen officers of the law enjoying what was probably a highly discounted meal. but with the price of a meal at this place, who needs a discount? i don't think i saw anything over $20. i ordered a chicken kabob. wow. cooked to perfection on the most delicious bed of buttery rice i've ever had, with a little potato on the side and some broccoli and carrots i didn't touch (only because i'm not a fan of cooked veggies...but they were steamed nicely). dinner included a salad with yummy dressing and some soft, fresh bread. oh, and $2 miller lites? HOLLA! it's a pretty big space, and it was a shame it was so empty. my friend ordered the gyro and loved it. the tzatziki sauce was extra garlic-y, the way it should be. service was friendly and fast enough. strange that had polish newspaper spread out on the table by the front door...not something i expected in a greek joint but hey...they cater to the neighborhood? lots of options on the menu...if you're in the 'hood, give it a try!

I've been here once , within the first six months of their opening. From the outside , it looks like a really nice what I thought to be Italian restaurant. The restaurant was more of a Greek diner , a little of everything from steaks to fish and chicken , along with a few pastas. I barely rember what we ordered , all I really remember is that nobody liked this place. I thought it was ok , nothing was spit your food out aweful , but nobody felt really good about their meal. I know we got baked clams , which was a special of the day , they were ok. My mother got some sort of pasta with a pale tomato sauce , she wasn't a fan , and I gave one bites worth of a try before I knew I wasn't a fan. My wife got some sort of a pasta dish with chicken , she barely ate it , I declined a taste. My son ordered a steak , I'm not sure which cut , he liked it just fine , I hade to agree it was ok. I know I got a fish dish , which kind I don't remember , but I ate it all and liked it just fine. I wish I had more details but the visit was in my pre yelping days. All I really know is I probably wouldn't go back here, although if somebody really wanted to go here , I wouldn't have too much to protest about.
