I have been ordering from this place for about two years and all I can say is delicious!!! We always get there pizza family pack which is a steal, and just recently I ordered the spaghetti and it was to die for. Will keep ordering from here because of the fantastic pizza and wonderful service!!! :)

I used this place to have my son's graduation party catered I had the chicken Vesuvio , vesuviopotatoes Italian sausage baked mostaccioli green beans The food was phenomenal I had more than enough for the 20 people. the delivery driver Mark was incredible he told us exactly what to do as far as keeping the food fresh and hot I have been to the restaurant couple times and I'm enjoyed the food and the catering is just as wonderful I highly recommend this place for catering almanaque doubt and the owner John really went out of his way to take care of me and I appreciate that. For catering needs or just a romantic night out or even a night with friends this is the place to go

Best thin crust pizza in Portage Park, bar none.

  • Mary K.

Just came in for a pizza. It's that herby thin crust that we just love but can't find anywhere outside the Chicagoland area. Pizza is the same as we remember. Service was mediocre at best and the restaurant is definitely dated, with a couple random canvas photos of babies amidst the other framed prints. Odd. Good pizza, but I would just get it to go.

been eating here for years! always get it or go in for birthdays and never disappointed and in the rare occasion we are, they always handle it with grace and respect!

I live dangerously close to this place and they have some of the best thin cracker crust pizza I've had. I've had their stuffed gnocchi as well, also good!

Canned mushrooms, bad sauce, undercooked sausage. Horrible service on the phone, resulting in a salad that was the size of a cupcake... and forgot soda. Driver blamed phone gal; phone gal blammed driver. Offered "credit in the mail for next time". Pizza dinner without paid-for soda and salad... WHAT next time ??!##! Offered a $3 credit for soda... that was never delivered!! And the mgr. "John" conveniently "just stepped out". So as not to gave to talk to me.

The best pizza in town in my opinion. Great bar service.. They have plenty of parking in the back re can park your car on the street.. Also recommend seafood there.

This place is wonderful! I went with my family and we loved our food. We ordered a seafood appetizer that have everything included (muscles, shrimp, squid, octopus), we only wished there were more shrimps. We had 2 pizza's a Veggie from their menu which was delicious (even great warmed up the next day or cold) and a hand tossed (deep dish) spinach and shrimp (baby shrimp). For dessert we got a coffee which was made fresh for us, a tea (huge and wonderfully tasty selection), and a cannoli. All was wonderful and served cooked fresh and timely.

Solid Italian place. Old school atmosphere and service. Good Italian food. Pizza is really good and specials are always reliable. We had the grilled salmon with veggies when we were there. I also had the risotto de pesce but I will admit it was good but not the best. All else was good.

Great pizza! I used to always get take-out, but then I took my wife to eat in around Christmas time, and it was decorated so nice and there was live music, such a wonderful time! Can't wait to go back!

I ve been ordering food from here for years and it hasn't changed still fresh, hot, tasty and spot on what ever you order either dinning in or take out or delivery. Mr. Porretta has built an institution that delivers on all cylinders. From the restaurant to the banquet hall great job guys .

This is THEE best Italian place around this area, maybe even beyond this neighborhood! Delivery is fast. Highly recommend their pizza. I've ordered alot of diff't food from there, all of it has always been great. With my work schedule I order from them 2-3 times a week. I HIGHLY recommend this place to my guests & to anybody that reads this.

Outstanding Italian food. This is not your fancy downtown cuisine.. This is the type of Italian food your grandmother used to make. The chicken risotto, chicken Marsala and penne arribiata with sausage are my favorite dishes. I love starting with a pizza as an appetizer as well bc it's so incredibly delicious I can't make a trip to Poretta's without with. I've brought dozens of friends and family members here and it's become an instant favorite. If you want fancy and overpriced go to RPM Italian downtown. If you want incredibly delicious, huge portions and affordable this is your place. This is my favorite Italian restaurant of all time.

Finally a great pizza in this neighborhood. We have tried every spot around here and have been very disappointed... We are pizza snobs... a tasty crust with good flavored sauce, and fresh ingredients IS A MUST!' This place hit the mark. We did take out....

We ordered delivery service from Porretta's for a family gathering. I was not impressed with the Italian beef and sausage combination. In my opinion, the beef and sausage were overcooked as were the sweet bell peppers. Porretta's seems to be a neighborhood favorite but for me it is mediocre.

    (2)
  • Amy A.

I have not tried anything but the pizza, and the thin crust is really good. Best option for delivery in the neighborhood. Typical "chicago style" thin crust pizza. Not at all like NY style thin crust, but really tasty. The sauce is homemade and I recommend ordering extra. Toppings are plentiful and the sausage is incredible. Mushrooms are canned, but I prefer them anyway. Almost too much cheese. If you like extra cheese this is the pizza for you. I have ordered pizza several times and it is always consistent and delicious. Way better than La Villa down the street.

  • Maria D.

What a great pizza place! My boyfriend and I have to travel a bit to get there, but it is so worth the drive. We only have the thin crust, but it is delicious. I highly recommend Poretta's pizza.

    (5)
  • Danny M.

Well they have changed EVERYTHING about their pizza! Totally disgusting and 1 star is to much. The cheese and sauce are just atrocious and I will NOT be ordering from them again! It will be LaVillas from now on.

So the pickup entrance is on the northwest side of the building. Waveland is a one-way going east so if you're coming from Central... you'd have to make a circle to get to it. It's a bland grey door and when you open it, you see the washroom immediately to your right. Had it not been for another yelper, I would have thought I was in the wrong place but when I looked left, there was a small counter with a nice lady who got my pickup order. Looks like this area is where the drivers wait. My bf loves sauces of all kinds so he wasn't happy that this pizza was very subtle on the sauce. I thought it was very yummy but next time I'll order with extra sauce and see if that will make a difference. I still thought the pizza was delicious. *edit* I was doing a pizza "test" around my area for a party and this place won. I ordered two extra large pizzas (one with extra sauce so I could test it). Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try it out for myself because I was running around doing stuff but multiple people asked where this pizza was from so I'm taking that as a success.

Jane is the best at Porettas! She always greets us with a smile! This restaurant has wonderful food and we love coming back as a family.

My family and I have been ordering our pizza from Porrettas since we moved into the neighborhood in 2003. I have bragged countless times to many people in this pizza-loving city that we are lucky to have the best thin crust pizza in our pocket of the NW side. In addition to their perfect sausage pizza, sometimes we splurge and have their bruschetta too which is garlic-y and smothered in tomatoes, which happens to be exactly how I like it. Definitely do yourself a favor and give it a try.

We frequent this establishment quite often, although it's been awhile since last visit. Went last nite on a Friday night. Was in the area and went to celebrate birthday. Appetizer was fried Calamari, still tasty but definitely smaller portion than past and more expensive. 1 Butterfly shrimp dinner , ok. 1 chicken vesuvio not as good as past and way smaller portion. 1 cheese ravioli with meat sauce just ok and not to many ravioli about 6 hidden in the sauce. 1 more ravioli with meat & meat sauce same, just ok. Glass of wine a couple cokes. Bill with tip about $110. Had a tiramisu to go, upon opening it, looked like soup. The worse part was the service, very unprofessional service and waited extremely long for meals. Understandable if crowded, but was nearly empty. Not sure if will return, but I always like to give local places a 2nd or 3rd try.

Local neighborhood Italian Trattoria been going here forever! Its nice when you've moved away for three years, walk in and they remember your name and ask where have you been. The service was excellent as usual. The Seafood appetizer is my favorite item on the menu, perfectly cooked, grilled and dressed! The Bolognese with Sausage is incredible, I cannot stop eating the bread! I'm happy to know that I live close enough that they will deliver!

  • Mallory G.

Best stuffed and pan pizza ever! I've had the sausage and pepperoni regular crust, I don't think it was thin crust. It was good, but the sausage stuffed is the best and the sausage and pepperoni pan. We always get a medium, but I think it must really be a large. I've never seen a medium pizza that huge. Gooey and hot and flavorful! Seasoned well.

This is a place that's been in the Portage Park area for years, but mostly known for being a pizza place and a banquet hall. The Trattoria across the street is pretty damn good too. The Filleto Tornado is awesome! And they have the best tiramisu I've ever had. The pasta and pizza are always excellent, and it's perfect for a quiet relaxing dinner . The staff is always attentive, and you are always greeted with a smile. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are huge. This is real Italian food. If your in the area and looking for a solid food, this is a never miss place to go for great Italian.

Decided to make it a pizza night and ordered at this place. It was delicious and recommend it to anyone who lives around the area that likes good pizza plus fast delivery. Other pizza places around here are not as good as this place. I had a sausage which was good, aside was tasty, and crust just right !

Great place and food keep coming here a lot the only thing is that the wait is always long even when they are not busy..

Been ordering from Porretta's for years. From bowling in the 90's to at home in the 21st Century and always spot on. Just received pizza for me and italian beef for my wife and it was delivered on tome, hot and ready to eat. My vote: one of the best for ordering out in the 60641 and 60636 zip code region.

  • Eric Q.

Good pizza and Italian food. Moderately priced. If you're in the neighborhood I would recommend but otherwise there are plenty of other options throughout the city for good Italian food.

    (4)
  • Matt K.

Everytime I go here there are at least 5 open tables and the owner tells us there is at least a 15 minute wait. It's a joke. The service is hit or miss. The good: the pizza more specifically the deep dish is good. My fave in the neighborhood. I usually gorge myself on bread and olive oil, then grab a house salad and go for a pizza or a special. It's the best Italian joint in the neighborhood but that doesn't say a ton.

  • Jim G.

Amazing place. Welcoming atmosphere and a nice staff. Don't even ask bout the pizza because its amazing. Seriously a very good place and an ideal spot for a date. Even casual dates are good here. Visit this place.

If you want GOOD PASTA this is your place, this is real Italian food!! Pricey but if your hungry and not in the mood to cook but want GOOD food! You won't regret this place! I had my food delivered, pasta with vodka sauce and chicken and chicken alfredo and it was fresh as can be, nicely packaged with breads and soup. I can't wait to try the pizza I read so much about! The portions are nice and big, I had leftovers for lunch and it was still good!

  • Nina G.

I grew up on their stuffed pizza. Their sauce is soooo good and they are generous with it. I usually get it stuffed with italian beef and mushrooms. Try it, you won't regret it! I can't say anything else about the rest of the menu, because my family has always been stuck on their stuffed pizza. It seems alot of people don't know about this place because it's kind of low key, but they should because the stuffed pizza is delicious and 10x better then Giordano's.

I stopped over to Trattoria Poretta (after driving by it many times) for a Monday night dinner with a friend. We had a bottle of wine - reasonably priced at $28 and ordered a shrimp in garlicky red sauce and the mushroom risotto. I also had the minestrone - very good. The risotto is enough to feed a family of 6 for about $16. It was just okay. My friend had the shrimp and seemd to like it. She also had a very interesting rasberry ice cream ball covered in chocolate and it looked delicious. The service was fantastic and the owner/manager even treated us to after-dinner drinks, which was nice (albeit scary considering we polished off the bottle of wine!) They also gave us a coupon for 15% off the next visit in November, which makes me think they are looking for business? I would give it another try and sample some of the meats or pizza!

What a fabulous dinner we had here! We were planning on going to another Italian restaurant when our eye caught this place as we were driving by. It was so inviting, we decided to venture in and we were so glad we did! The food was outstanding and the prices were quite reasonable. I would definitely return soon again to try other specialties.... the grilled calamari over spinach was excellent as was the shrimp and lasagna! I'd love to give Trattoria Porretta 5 stars as the quality and flavor of the food was superb however the young lady that waited on our table as sweet as she was, lacked the experience to wait on our table properly we felt. There is nothing worst to have to look around for the waitress or wait excessively long for the bill when you are finished and are ready to leave. She was so sweet and a real gem but I just can't justify 5 stars with this level of sporadic service. .............. we will return and improvements can always be made.

Porretta's has some great pizza. I love the family special( large pizza 1 topping and 8 pieces of chicken about 20 bucks). That sticky, sweet spicy bbq sauce on the chicken is awesome. My only complaint is the staff. No matter what time they tell you over the phone to pick it up, add 15 minutes. The inside looks nice but i think they ran out of money for the pick up area. There should be a seperate place for the drivers. And to the manager owner whoever: if your driver says something rude to a customer, try not to scream at him in front of other customers. It defeats the purpose. Like a father who beats his kids and then wonders why they fight in school. Otherwise, good food.

I enjoyed this restaurant. It had a great atmosphere for a cold day. To start the meal they gave you hummas and bread, which I love as a healthy alternative to butter. The food was delicious! I ordered a salad and mussels and enjoyed them both very much. The mussels had a great flavor and to add a wonderful complexity- sliced pears. Will definitely return!

  • Anthony M.

Great pizza! Real sausage...mmm!!! The worst part was when I realized the food was all gone. First time visitors be sharp when parking as it can be minimal due to the joint (rightfully) having a number of customers. Also the pickup door is on the northwest corner of the building which to me initially felt like I opened the door to the kitchen. Friendly service from a cute cashier is what ended my first visit here. I hope to become a bi-weekly patron. Aw Hell, who am I kidding? It will probably be weekly.

Great little neighborhood trattoria. Pasta dishes are fantastic, as are the seafood items. This is my go-to pizza delivery place, and they deliver the full menu as well.

  • Daniel C.

I know I keep jumping boat to different pizza places and saying that it's the best I've ever had every time but I'll say it again about this place and this time I mean it. Better then Suparossa all around. I think it's the best pizza I have ever had. And since it's not far from where I live I always get my order quick and hot. Don't worry Suparossa your great too but Porretta is number one on my list. Also my mom loved the boneless perch from here. I was pissed that they were closed after a hard evenings work at McCormick place. I got home past 1 in the morning and I guess they were closed because I didn't want to cook and I was starving for some great pizza.

Bar food, sandy clams, slow service. Overpriced. Lame. Not coming back.

Really enjoyed eating here. Service was great. Felt as though I was family. Many traditional Italian selections to choose from. I really loved the Bruschetta and fried Calamari. Salads served with warm Italian bread. The Pollo Parmigiana could of used a bit more flavor. No refills on Soda? Great parking, bathrooms clean.

We've had a checked relationship with Porretta's. Just as we were moving into our new place, Dawn went there with Jim and came back raving about it, particularly the house pizza. So then we ordered from the delivery menu and not only do they not deliver the pizza di casa, the menu is very different from the one they give you when you go there to eat. And frankly we were both underwhelmed by the food they delivered. It wasn't bad, but it sure didn't live up to the hype or, I'm told, the original experience. So cut to tonight when we'd been running all over Chicago trying to get last minute Xmas stuff done and were contemplating just going home and having someone bring us food. However I wanted someplace warm and cozy with warm and cozy food, and Porretta's is less than a mile from home, so we decided to go on over. We got there early enough that we got a table right away (Half an hour later and the place was packed!) got prompt service, and had a terrific supper. The bread was crusty on the outside, hot and tender on the inside, and while I didn't much like the choice of olive oil on the table it did a good job of mopping up some of the best damn Italian dressing I've ever tasted. The salad itself was pretty damn good, too. I was taking it kind of easy today and ordered spaghetti with garlic and oil, which was very good and very garlicky, but I also tasted the spaghetti bolognese (which was excellent) and the meatballs (clearly homemade, light, finely textured and really tasty) and a dish which name I can't recall, but it was mostaccoli in a tomato sauce with sausage and mushrooms. They were all really good but the mostaccoli was extraordinary and that's what I'm ordering next time I go. The service was top notch, very attentive, helpful and friendly, and the women's bathroom was squeaky clean and well-lighted. I really understand why Porretta's is such a neighborhood favorite.

Amazing thin crust pizza! I lived across the street from the family who owns Porettas and they are wonderful people. I grew up having this pizza every friday for at least 20 years. The pasta is amazing too!

  • Mark O.

The restaurant is a great local treasure. I've probably eaten one of everything off the menu and its all good. Good fresh pasta dishes, fresh bread, great thin as well as stuffed pizzas, the creamy garlic dressing is also a must try. I've had parties for 25 guests at the restaurant, I've had catering, take out as well as pizza delivery from them and its always been a great experience.

    (5)
  • Jessica G.

I will say that their service is stellar. Our waitress was the sweetest and extremely attentive to our party of 6. Parking was plentiful and the atmosphere was conducive to some good chit chat. But the food was another story. Basic American-Italian creations with minimal flavor. Mushy eggplant parm and sauce that tasted like chef boyardee from a can.

  • Kevin G.

I live less than one block from Porretta's. I've been eating here since it was a tiny little shack on the giant banquet parking lot. I eat here probably 3 times a week on top of that. Everyone in the take out section is fucking AWESOME. I truly like these people and I think they truly like me too. Order an XL, extra thin, double pepperoni pizza if you want to be amazed. But yes, Porretta's is one of the love's of my life. Go eat there. I don't spend much time in the seated section of the place but I carry out constantly here. Good pizza, good people.

  • Cynthia B.

I love this place and come here often, but the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I had a bad experience here today. We ordered our appetizers then our dinner. After we ate our appetizers we got our soup or salad then after we were done with that we were expecting our dinner to come, but instead the waitress comes up to me and said that the pasta I ordered they were out of. You are an Italian restaurant, how do you run out of pasta?! Also, why did it take so long for them to tell me they ran out of pasta and asked if I wanted a different type instead. If i wanted a different type dont you think i would've ordered it?? Needless to say I won't be back for quite some time...

    (4)
  • Sarat M.

I visited this place on Father's Day weekend and I am glad I did. The service was great and the food superb! Huge portions are served, the appetizers are great, and all authentic. We had appetizers, meals and dessert for a very low price and still had more than half our meals to take home. The owner is always around to help and make sure every table gets only the best service. Definitely going back!

  • Vince R.

I have lived in Portage Park for my whole life and just tried this place with in the last few years. My sister had been ranting about this place and I decided to try. They have a Family Deal where you get a large pizza, Fried or BBQ Chicken, and a two liter of coke for under $30.00 with delivery and tip, I pay this price because I get the Italian Beef and giardiniera!!!! The only bad thing is they always forget something.....Always It could be the Soda, or if you request extra BBQ sauce and pay for it they never bring it. It is truly a sham that there is no accountability as I had complained and not even an I'm sorry. If the food was not so good I would not order

  • Marta M.

We had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Porettas. They were SUPER accomodating, food came fast and the waitress was sooo attentive! The food was delicious, half of our party had pizza and half menu items. I had an amazing appetizer of asparagus and steak with roasted potatoes for main course. The salad was fresh and the ranch dressing is one of the best I've had. If you're North/West I highly recommend.

  • Cheryl W.

I just realized I never reviewed this place! I love it! I've tried just about all their pasta dishes and they're always incredible. The atmosphere is old school Italian and simple, the waitstaff is always nice and helpful as well. I've never tried their take out or delivery service so I can't comment there, but for authentic, reasonably priced Italian food this place is as good as it gets. On a side note, and I'm not taking any stars off for this because who knew?? Don't go to their New Years eve buffet unless you appreciate the atmosphere of a Polish disco. I think there were two whole tables that didn't speak Polish as a first language. And then OMG the DJ started playing Polish music!! Who'da expected that at an Italian joint? They did have an 8 hour open bar and a very good buffet, though, so I didn't feel completely devastated, but I did leave before midnight.

I had porretta's catering yesterday for a baby shower. It was great and my guests were very pleased. The chicken Vesuvius was the best I ever ate. I would never hesitate to recommend them.

I have to say this is the best pizza in Chicago and all of my friends will agree with this. I usually get delivery but the restaurant is nice as well. They don't use the cheap mozzarella that is greasy and the price for the amount of pizza you get is great. Just try it you won't regret it!

    (5)
  • Erin M.

It was a Friday night. Mood was deep dish pizza. Choices: Giordano's or Poretta's. Poretta's won the toss up. It was delivered. And the "wow, we've been missing out" feeling occurred. Poretta's has MUCH better deep dish than Giordano's AND it is cheaper! The obvious and better choice.

  • Tom Z.

I am going to hold the place at a 4 star rating based on my original review of the thin crust. I tried the pan pizza this time and thought it was good, but not great. It tasted more like the thin crust pizza with a thick crust. I usually associate pan pizza with more sauce and sausage then they put on this pizza. The price was right on the pan pizza. You get a lot for the money. But, I will stick with the excellent thin crust from Porretta's.

Went to this restaurant as a last-minute dinner date with old friends. I loved it! I only had the Caprese salad, due to the fact that I was full from an earlier dinner- but my friends liked their pasta and seafood dishes. The restaurant was very accommodating, and considering we walked in around 8PM (with no reservation), the service was pretty good. Our waitress was friendly, and she often checked up on us. The restaurant has a very cozy feel to it, and I will definitely go there again and try an actual dish.

Once again this place never dissapoints! Real live Italians dinning next to me eating oysters and pounding wine! And they are talking in Italian!....fabulous! Oh and our pasta on Vodka Sauce was fabulous!!!

  • ROSIE V.

I've had a craving for a pan pizza with the works. Porretta's doesn't have one, you have to build your own. When I opened the box I was droooooling. Unfortunately, the pan/crust was toooooo much. The toppings were delicious but the CRUST --- TERRIBLE. I wanna say it was about 2 or 3 inches. Like Tom I also expected more sauce. I expected a little more bread not what I got. Their thin crust is excellent, I won't be doing the pan. I'm scared to try the stuffed now.

Great Italian food for a fair price. My fav. is to have a drink or two at the bar and order the grilled calamari or chicken limone. But, the entire menu is great even the pizza. If you are in the Portage Park area, look no further. Also, if you want to try some thing different Trattoria Porretta is worth the trip.

  • Eric S.

Nice place... they have an extensive menu with great food.. we started with the Calamari it came out pretty fast which i was kinda worried about that, i think they were sitting under a lamp, but they were good... we order a pizza a med one and this thing was a good size for being a med... pizza was nice and toasted and very delicious.... they also have good desserts but we ate to much that there was no room for dessert... the music was awesome and the atmosphere was great for a date out with that special person which was why i was there.... its also great to take the whole family.....

This place is a hidden neighborhood jewel. If you like good food, at good prices good wine and the best pizza in all of Chicago then come here. I had family come in from Michigan and the tried the other well known pizza restuarant but they love the pizza here. Check out their daily specials. I haven't had a bad meal or bad service yet from this place. I guarentee you will love it.

Again with a delivered dining review... we love this place. Intelligent, drama-free order takers, reasonable prices, prompt, hot delivery - and consistently delicious food. Note consistent - that's something a lot of restaurants struggle with! Everything we've tried has been freshly prepared and delicious, generous portions also. One item of specific note: if you are a vegetarian - or just a fan of eggplant parm, be sure to try Porettas, it's perfection - the silky unctuous texture is heavenly, meltingly delicious - the nirvana that us eggplant lovers seek and rarely find, so many places don't get it right, Porettas does.

Very nice service. I called ahead to be sure that we would get seated. Good food, good ambiance. Try the lasagne and raspberry tartufo. yum.

Hooray for gluten free pizza. About 3-4 months ago I had a conversation with the owner about how I used to go a lot before my wife was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance. I found out a few days ago that they now offer gluten free crust. I tried it out on Sunday and think it's the best of the limited gf choices we have in the hood.

Best sausage and peppers and I tried spicy fried calamari for the first time..... The place is usually pretty desolate (when I have been there) but I have never been there on the weekend so I think reservations are recommended.

I really like this place. I first went here about ten years ago when I first moved here and lived right down the street from it. I remember getting sorbet in an orange and it was delicious! Last summer, I took my guy from Denmark there and he loved it. Last month, I took two guests I had staying with me. This place has a great selection of entrees to choose from and several pizzas. The pizzas are loaded with goodies so you won't go away hungry. Their medium pizza will feed about three people as a meal. They give break and olive oil before the meal, as well. Everything I have had from this place has been delicious and the staff are very friendly.

My review is for Porretta's stuffed pizza. This is definately my go to place in the area! It's so good that a friend of mine that moved to michigan has asked me bring one out to her on several trips. I do hope to have dinner there one of these days and try some other things, but for now I can only comment on the stuffed pizza, yum!

I'm happy to report that Porretta's seems to have gone back to the original way of doing things. The food taste's the same as I remember it way back when and I've been happy with the pizza's that I've ordered in the past few months. Yay!!! They are back!!!

Mixed reviews here. Food good, service can be very average. I am basing this on many experiences there. Food - good pizza and GREAT Fettuccine Alfredo. My nephew ordered it and we all were tasting it and couldn't get enough. Even at 9 years old he chose to take it home instead of leaving the rest for his aunt! There is some spice in there that just works. Service - ok until I was there for my birthday in September. Wow - really bad service. The worst I have ever had and they knew it was my birthday! Won't even go into it all but I will say that after 1.5 hours we had just gotten our appetizer. We didn't even want to order dinner or dessert after that. We just wanted to leave. This was after complaining a few times to the person who I think was the owner and the waitress was still off her game. We left and had a celebratory dessert at Rose Angelis! Delivery - has been good but I find it odd they want you to include the tip on the charge before you even get the food.

It's middle of the road Italian food. Stick with simple items like pizza. I had a ribeye and it was as average as it gets. Pasta dishes are hit or miss. The calamari is good. Not a whole bunch quality restaurants to chose from in this area, it is certainly better that Super Grossa but nowhere near Sabatino's awesomeness. No complaints about the service.

Growing up in Jefferson Park meant that our pizza options were confined to the hit-or-miss Rosatis, a Paternos which graced its paper thin crust with heaps of grease, and a Papa Joe's that draws nothing exceptional to a memory except that of outstanding mediocrity. These were, for the most part, the options from which our Chicago beating hearts, pumping mozzarella and sausage through the veins, were suffered to choose between. However, all of this changed when my father, by some fantastical grace, brought home Porretta's. You may think I'm being over dramatic, but I assure you that this pizza is so good that it justifies whatever manner you use to describe the joy which is Porretta's pizza. I mean, how can you really put into words the feeling you get when you bite into a crust which is crisped, but not flaky, a layering of mozzarella that builds a bridge of taste between you and the Old country, and a sauce that punches through its foundation roots to beget wonder between your teeth. Cheers for Porretta's! And cheers to those who will go on to try this great pie!

This place is the absolute best for traditional, authentic Italian food. The owner, Johnny, will personally make sure you enjoy your meal. The atmostphere is fantastic. The location, Portage Park, means you don't have to go downtown for really good food. It's very affordable as well. I will be back!!!!!

Food is great. Cocktails hit the spot. Prices are right. Nice but no frills atmosphere. Far better than places in trendy areas. The old time northwest siders get it right. We used to go here when I was a tot. I hesitate to give it 5 stars because I haven't been since "Gianni V." left. He was the best, old-school style piano bar guy and really made the dinner. I sat in smoking just for him, even though I've become very anti-smoking section (for places that still have them) in the last few years! Gianni looked like Kojak and used to smoke a few right before singing mostly Italian numbers, but he'd throw in a mixed language "Just the Way You Are" for good measure. I wish I knew if he's still in the area and I hope he's doing well. Don't confuse it with the banquet hall across the street, by the same name, whatever you do! Or, when you call, you'll get a very long, bitter story about how they're not related. Sounds like brothers got into it over too much basil.

This is my favorite pizza joint in the neighborhood. They have been very consistent. The delivery drivers are fast. The staff are pleasant and actually listen to your order. The only thing about this place is that you have to ask for fresh mushrooms otherwise you will get canned.

We've been going to Porreta's for several years and it is within walking distance. Where to start. If heaven was a restaurant it would be here. Service has always been good and 95% of time the food is great. I love their soups because they taste rich and homemade. The pizza is the best in the area. We bring the vegetarian pizza to our church luncheons and everyone raves.

I grew up on this pizza. It is delicious, easily one of the best in the city. No lie. Seriously, the crust is perfect, the sauce is perfect, the cheese is perfect, the sausage is perfect...... you cannot go wrong with this pizza. Delivery is prompt and the drivers are courteous, and did I mention how amazing the pizza is? I'd write more, but it's hard to articulate how much I love Poretta's pizza. Just do yourself a favor and get one. You can thank me later.

This place needs to step it up a few notches before they totally fall into the dumper. Lax managament is apparent in all departments. One loses confidence in the way things are run when a server is seen not only chewing gum while at a table, but on her trip back she is seen blowing bubbles with it. How about a decent wine list, after all, this is an Italian restaurant. Very poor and limited by the glass choices. If you order a drink be aware of the cheap, one shot pour that is served. Prices are not bad and food is good but not great. I imagine the pizza keeps them alive. Wouldn't make an out of my way return trip.

It was good, not great. Our waiter didn't seem to be very informed with the menu, by default they should always at the very least have a recommendation. I ordered linguine with white wine sauce and mussels, it didn't really taste like anything special, just butter and the sauce from the mussels. My friend loved her capellini. We had a seafood appetizer, but the octopus was so tough we couldn't chew it to save our life. Overall it was a nice restaraunt, plenty of free parking which pretty much determines my dining choices now, and they have live music some nights. A repeat? Maybe.

Awesome food, awesome prices, very nice ambience for this neighborhood restaurant. I have always had a great meal here, and had enough to take home for another two nights. The portions are just huge. The only thing I take issue with is an Italian restaurant where there are only Polish servers. I don't think I have ever asked a question on a dish and been able to get an answer. They don't know the food or the ingredients, which truly upsets me. What further irritates me is that if they don't know, they just kind of shrug their shoulders and ask me if I want it anyway. Go ask someone else dammit! I don't blame the servers, I blame the management for not taking the time and care to educate their staff on food and wine - which you would think is a given at any decent restaurant. Aside from that, if you are in the area, and in the mood for some great Italian food, you won't be disappointed checking it out.

Porrettas is delicious period. I came here w/my boyfriend, my sister, and her boyfriend. It looks like a true Italian restaurant and has a somewhat romantic atmosphere. Our service was great since we went on sunday night and it wasn't too packed. We ordered to start the bruchetta and the artichoke dip. The bruschetta was very garlicky which I loved! I didn't try the dip, but everyone said it was the best. IDK. Salad was very fresh and the ranch dressing perfectly tangy and creamy. I ordered thed tortellini with gorgonzola cheese and added meatballs to it. It was to die for. the plate was huge, I wish I split it! It was a perfect balance of sauce and pasta. The meatballs were spiced perfectly and were hot and soft. My boyfriend got the pollo parmigiana and he was satisfied with it; I tried a bite and it was really really good. We all had Pino Grigio with the food and it was chilled nicely and complimented our food. For dessert cuz of my sis's bday they brought out tiramsu and it was heaven. I loved this place, and I left happy and stuffed and so did everyone else!

in my quest for yummy neighborhood pizza, (and a restaurant that was open past 8pm on xmas eve,) i ordered a pie to go from poretta's based off of the yelp reviews. and wow, was i ever impressed! the medium thin crust spinach and tomato was about as perfect as you can imagine. the crust was just right...not too thin, not too thick. the cheese was slightly brown on top but not over-cooked, and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. plus, the staff was super friendly and cool. glad i found this place...consider me a regular!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
