If you're looking for a true authentic deli sandwich, this is the place to stop. They also have a wide variety Italian drinks, olive oil, pasta and more. Their homemade sausage is delicious, which you can buy per pound. Just stop by and enjoy their food. You will not be disappointed. This is a family owned businesses, which has been around for years. And if anyone has been around for that long. They obviously know what they are doing. I can tell you one thing., if I am ever around this area, you can guarantee that I will be stopping in for one of their super subs, and the homemade cannoli.

Used his bare fingers... Good value for a gigantic 15" sub... But the gentleman who worked the deli was cleaning as I came in 25 minutes before closing (closes at 6pm). Saw him use his fingers to make my sandwich. Really would have been nice if he used plastic gloves, since he used his hands to get the tomatoes, ham, and lettus etc. This really turned me off. Cheap labor (from south of the border) doesn't have to be bad. Maybe it's lack of training. Or maybe it's just me acting/feeling weird about this man using his fingers to put the wet ham and tomatoes on my sandwich... Low price, low quality. Was expecting more like Ernesto's (next to Gumba Joe's).

Oh, Tony's you know the way to my heart: stacked meats and cheeses! I really enjoy coming to this lovingly ran family business. My husband and I love coming here and getting these delicious deli sandwiches. Our favorite sub is the sliced Turkey breast. I mean there isnt anything super out of the ordinary on it. Lots of turkey, tomato, lettuce, mayo. There is something about that bread and quality of their products that make this sandwich so delicious. They also serve ready to eat foods like calzones (another one of our favorites), pasta salads, fresh made pasta dishes and sauces, etc. A sweet family owned and operated place serving quality food to its patrons. The consistency in the quality of their food and superior service makes them second to none. Just make sure not to come by on Mondays, they are closed. You don't know how many times my husband and I have done that. D'oh! Street parking is plentiful.

I've been here more than once because my job is nearby. I love their sub sandwiches because they are fresh and flavorful. I we to Tony's at 10 AM in the morning to have a very early lunch, and I decided to try the Capresi sandwich because it sounded very fresh. They had another vegetarian option too, in case anyone wanted to try that. The mozzarella was amazing- so simple. Also, that vinaigrette added the perfect tang to my sandwich. I felt really healthy after I ate that sandwich. I ordered a 15", which is their largest size and I honestly could have eaten the whole thing. It was that light. The place is a deli store, so they sell breads, cheeses, meats. When I went in the morning, there was already a handful of people buying things. They have some good looking things. I also like their soda options. I got some Pellingrino to go with my sandwich, which is exactly the refreshment I need. There is a minimum before you can use your credit card. I would suggest bringing cash if all you're buying is a sub.

I really like Tony's. I was home for a week recovering from surgery and walked here three times for a sub for lunch! Mostly the italian with hot peppers. The first time i ordered a King but they gave a Super - 15 inches of sandwich! Of course I ate it all like the dirty slut that I am. The people are really friendly - I feel like I could go in and ask for anything and they would try to help me. Treat yourself. Stop by Tony's some time.

Great food and great atmosphere. This is a legitimate neighborhood Italian shop and deli. When I walked in and saw all of the food I got really excited because it was really authentic. There's a great meat and cheese selection and a lot of other foods imported from Italy. One of my favorite parts was walking by the cheese. It smelled so good :). If you have the opportunity you should definitely come here to eat and buy food.

This is a great little store. Don't let the size fool you. They have all the fixings for a great Italian dinner. In the deli , they make sandwiches, and also have hot items, like pizza and pasta dishes. I went with an Italian sub, cheese and spinach pizza slice, pasta salad(I will not pass an opportunity to have pasta salad!) and cannoli. The food was good, the prices were very reasonable and the people working here were really friendly! It's definitely worth checking out.

Given the great Yelp reviews, I had to try this place out. $5.99 for a 15 inch sub? Did I just walk into 1993? This place is absolutely incredible. The subs are delicious, and the service is wonderful. This is bar-none the best place to grab lunch in Edison Park, it is only a very short drive from my office in Rosemont. Tony's is also a full deli and Italian grocery store, I recently brought home their homemade Italian beef, it was wonderful, and I highly recommend giving it a try. I can't wait to sample out everything else!

I can't remember why I forgot about this place. Last Sunday, we spent the day working and were starving come lunch time. My husband suggested Tony's, and I was like "Oh yeah!" We ordered 2 subs - one American, one Italian and split both. A little hot giardinara on the Italian and it was just delicious. For dessert, we got a small container of mango Italian ice to take home. Hit the spot on a super hot day. I've also been here for lunch on a workday. They have subs ready to go if you're in a hurry, or they will make you one fresh. There's a cute little seating area in the front of the store, if you have time. Oh, and I love the cute little store with all the imports from Italy. My Italian grandmother used to love this place!

This place is an amazing find. The meatballs are super good. Snagged several homemade dinner options to go as well. (Lasagna, meatballs, gnocchi & cheese ravioli--updates to come) Very happy with the subs--got 2 Italians, turkey & a club. All really good. Bread was really fresh, chewy goodness. Chicago IL - The people working here are wonderful! Kind and helpful, the kind of service that makes a 5 star experience. The deli is filled with all kinds of grocery items and desserts. I would say this is more a 2.5 star. I've been craving an Italian sub for the last couple days but didn't want to drive all the way down to JP Grazianos/Bari/D'Amatos. Yelp directed me to Tonys and its 4.5 star rating. This place reminds me very much of Bari with the sandwiches made in the back of the grocery store but that's where the similarities end. The Italian sub was a little lite on the meats and the dressing wasn't great. The biggest disparity was the bread. The bread is TERRIBLE. Have a sub from one of the places I mentioned above and once you do a comparison, you probably won't ever go back to Tony's. The muffaletta had more meat and the chopped olive mix was really good but it also suffered from awful, awful bread. It was stale and a little too hard, causing the sandwich to spill its guts when I attempted to bite into it. I remember seeing a hot muffaletta on TV so I put mine in the toaster oven to see if it would improve things. Toasting made all the difference! It was a totally different tasting sandwich. The prices were great (less than $4 for a 9" Italian and $6 muffaletta) and Tony's will do in a pinch but unless I find another place close to the north shore, I'll just have to suck it up and drive down to Grand or Randolph.

This is an awesome sandwich shop and small grocery store. I have gotten food catered for parties (sandwich platter, lasagna, salad, etc) and it is affordable and tasty! If you are in Edison Park it is the best place to grab a sandwich for a quick lunch. Lines get a bit long at the deli counter, but they have premade Italian, Turkey and American sandwiches in the pop cooler (at least I think those are the ones premade).

There are many great things about living on the Northwest Side of Chicago, and Tony's is no doubt in the top 10. Just a fantastic place - great food, great service, great variety, great prices. Aside from the lunchtime subs or fish salad, Tony's has been our go-to place for parties for birthdays, First Communions, graduations, etc. Trays of Italian beef, Italian sausage, mostaccioli, all ready to pick up and heat up when we get home. Everything about this place is perfect, from the crew behind the deli counter to the pen taped to the plastic fork at the register. The aroma of Tony's is enough to keep you roaming the aisles for more than a few extra minutes while the food and service are more than enough to keep you coming back for more.

When the moon hits your eyes like a big pizza pie that's amore.....this little joint brings me back in time to 1997 when I visited a quaint family-owned Italian deli in a small village in Italy where the locals were hanging out drinking tiny cups of Expresso, laughing and talking, while the kids were eating Italian ice and everyone was enjoying time with friends and family. We dropped $10 and change for two Italian sub sandwiches and a small container of potato salad. 4-stars, because the sandwiches are made fresh, very authentic Italian foods, and it is "cheap eats." They also make fresh pizza, which you can purchase by the slice. The crust is not great (it is more like a sponge), so skip it all together. Their cannoli treats are home made and excellent. I gave up sweets/sugar, so I didn't get one, this time around. However, I have had them before. The cannolis are ethereal and worthy of 5-stars. It had been a long time since I stopped here. However, we came on Sunday afternoon around 1 pm. I had the Italian sub (6 in.) for $2.99 and a small container of their home made potato salad for $1.09. The sandwich is worthy of 4-stars. The potato salad was a bit bland for my taste so I rate it 2-stars. I wish they would use the same kind of bread that Portillo's uses for their Italian beef sandwiches. My husband had a 9-inch Italian sub for $3.99. The oil that is sprinkled on the sandwich makes the meat, lettuce and tomatoes slide all over the place making it a bit messy to eat. However, the deli meat is definitely fresh. I also like their meat arancini with marinara gravy (Italians call it "gravy" but Americans call it "sauce"). I did not have one because they were all sold out. I was very disappointed. There are four or five tables so if you want to eat there -- it's convenient. There were two other couples eating sandwiches when we sat down to have our lunch. Parking in this area is really a royal pain in the ass. We went around the block several times before finding a legal parking spot. Parking is free on Sunday, but otherwise, it is "Pay to Park" on other days. The people who work here are hospitable. This is a Mom and Pop Italian family owned operation. Sometimes you will see Grandma helping out at the cash register. It's all in the family here! TIP: If you are having a party with 20 people or more, you can order large pans of lasagna, mostaciolli as well as other pasta dishes. They do not cater. You have to place your order and go to their store to pick it up.

In a nut shell it was pretty good. I had the meatball sandwich and coleslaw. The boy ate an Italian sub. Said it was good. I don't know if I would compare it to Bari but it's the closest I've come to that even warrants the chance of another visit. The location is great for us. I will definitely go back. I took the sandwiches to go but I saw they have several tables to sit and eat which comes in handy.

This place is great. Get the wedding soup, bocconcini salad, roast beef, and if you have a party get the tin of Italian sausage and peppers. It's the best. I also crave the macaroni salad and the mushroom ravioli. Any of the frozen pastas are great. Dump them in boiling water right out of the freezer and add any sauce. I love Tonys white sauce and meat sauce. Only bad thing is the bread is not always fresh on Sunday. Oh yeah and get the cannoli holy crap they are good and cheesy.

If you're ever in need of a good Italian samich fixin! Head over here. It's as if you stepped into your italian grandmother's pantry. You will not only find sandwiches here but all sorts of goodies. It's a fantastic grocery store. You have pastas, bread, cheeses, you name it. The staff is friendly. All the way in the back you gear up to get any kind of sandwich you want made fresh. I usually go with the prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and dressing sandwich. Fantastic prosciutto sliced fresh... cant beat that. The only thing I would say that could be improved is the bread. I just feel it could use a little more crust, its too soft for my taste but nonetheless delicious. They have freshly made Italian dishes ready to go, cold salads... ma you can't lose here. I love that they carry lots of Italian specialities..and that they are conveniently located in the NW side of the city-saves me a trip to the other Italian shops further south on Harlem. Their sandwiches are life savors when you are on the go..however my lower review comes from the fact that the man making the sandwiches was not using plastic gloves. I am not a germ a phobe but at least when someone is preparing my food- I expect them to abide by the city's health code regulations. I cant say I enjoyed the sandwich since I didnt know where his hands had been. I wish I had spoken up.

Tony's is an Edison Park institution. Great deli, great sandwiches to order. Moved out of the area a while back but when I get down that way I usually stop. When I lived nearby, I was a regular. No question that (former) Mayor Douchebag's (Daley) galactic parking scam has hurt his biz - and thousands of others around the city. I've never been to Italy but coming to Tony's Deli's like getting to experience a little bit of Italy. They have a great deli section and awesome desserts (eg. Canollis, Italian cookies, etc), grocery items, breads, amusing Italian T-Shirts. But they also sell plates that would make any "want to be" Italian Chef plate their food in these colorful plates. Packaged Breadsticks I purchased were delicious, smelled good in there, nice people, but the Turkey on my sandwich was lower grade than Jimmy Johns and Subway. It was slimy and rubbery. Came here for the sandwiches. Living on the North Shore, was hoping to have a place closer than Bari. The store is clean..and bigger than I thought it would be. The people are very friendly. The sandwiches were OK. As I have written in some other reviews, it's a matter of taste. Had the Italian and the Veggie Subs. The Italian was not skimpy. The veggie was interesting. Had roasted peppers, motz, and artichokes as well other vegetables. The bread was the part that was OK. Too soft for my taste. I was hoping for a sub roll that was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The veggie was pretty soggy because it. I'm sure that a number of folks would and should rate this a 5 star. It just wasn't what I was hoping for.

Okay so its not that hard to find an Italian deli in Chicago, But to find a good Deli is not that easy. I love Tony's the Subs are great and they have a full line of imported goods from Italy. I am not a fan of the Italian sausage here, I do go else where for my Italian Sausage, But i am sure that is just preference and individual taste. They are very nice here and if you go in at lunch to get a sub be ready to wait, the line gets long at lunch time. The sub is worth the wait, If you are not hip to what to get do yourself a favor and get a prosciutto and provolone sub. they also make it with fresh mozzarella which is amazing. Also before i forget the prices for the subs are very very reasonable. They also have a great selection of Italian cookies and pastries just like my mom makes. good stuff, take it from some one who is 100% Italian when looking into any Italian deli or restaurant ;)

I'm not sure what all the great reviews are for. Lived by Tony's all my life, every now and then I go in to remember why I don't go there. Ordered an Italian Sub. Asked for onions on it with the lettuce. An obviously annoyed employee, I think one of the daughters, said we don't put onions on an italian sub. I told her I knew that, that's why I asked for them. She said they couldn't do it. I also asked for just oil - no vinegar. She told me they have a vinegar and oil mix, I again asked for just oil. She said they did not have just oil. I was flabbeghasted. The store has an entire aisle full of oil, yet they could not put any on my sandwhich. And I could undersdtand if it was in the middle of lunch rush and they were busy, but I was the only one in the store. She was quick to point out that I could buy a bottle off the shelf. And what kind of Italian Deli doesn't have onions? I also bought a roast beef sub for my daughter and asked if she could give me some of the more well done slices. What I received was a bloody mess, it was like she went out of her way to give me the rarest slices. It went right to the dog. The sub was nothing special, the bread is lousy and too small. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor by serving you. From now on I'll keep driving north and go to Jersey Mike's in Park Ridge, at least they will make the sandwhich the way I ask.

The staff was helpful in assisting us with our order, and I would recommend renting the heating trays if you are having a party. I regret not knowing about Tony's sooner. I read the good reviews for the deli sandwiches. I am always looking for a good sub (my favorites are in the city and difficult to find a good sub this far west) decided I needed to check them out seeing as they are just a few min from work. I had a tuna sub; it was good, nothing spectacular. My complaint is the size vs filling ratio. The bread is delicious, my preference would be more filling and less bread for the sandwich - specifically an inch less to the sub for a thicker portion of fillingt. I selected a "super", expecting to have half for dinner and half for lunch and that worked out to be just right amount. The price is pretty good for the volume of sandwich. Partner had a Papy's beef sub - adorned with olive salad, swiss and mayo. I liked that better than the tuna and I regretted not ordering that for myself. I rate this beef higher than my previous front-runner, Hero's beef. The tuna falls short of my current front-runner tie Babarinos vs Hero's. Perused the to go entrees. All looked so tasty and fresh, eggplant parm, ravioli, sausage n peppers. I selected lasagna and stuffed shells to have for dinner the following evening. I didn't think much about the lasagna but loved the stuffed shells, not to sweet, not too runny and the ever important, sauce not too tangy. I also picked up a small tub of meat sauce that provided a hearty beefy flavor and a few big chunks of sweet italian sausage. I also purchased a jar of their olive salad to use when I make my own sandwiches. (You may gather from a few of my other reviews, I LOVE OLIVES!) I would rate 3.75 if I could because the elderly lady at the register overcharged me by $2 which I didn't find out until I left. I will be going back to try the beef sandwich, the giardinera, the italian sub; .....well guess I am going to have to make Tony's a regular in my rotation!

I ate at this deli prior to the renovation. I love not only the food, but also the family ambiance. Grandma works the counter while Vito and the girls work the deli. I have only had the opportunity to sample their sandwiches, however I am positive that their other food is just as good. I have been coming here for over ten years. Saturday's are busy and parking can be a problem. If you like olives, you'll love the Big Pappy and Muffuletta Subs. They both have the olive spread, they're amazing.

Tony's deli I dig because it's a throwback to the days of neighborhood grocery stores, mom and pop shops, people who know you (even though I don't really know them but I wish I did), with great food made by the people who actually sell you the food. Whole Food seems to have gotten credit that they are the originators of freshly prepared food. Okay, I'll give them organic, but the owners of Tony's deli and people and businesses like them have been doing this for years without all the fanfare by suburban soccer moms and popular media. You want a great sandwich, they have them. You want freshly made lasagna, they have it and in many varieties. The best olive oil, pasta, olives they have along with the assortment of commonly loved Italian specialties. Before you road trip to to your local supermarket, Subway franchise or any other nationally known chain, give Tony's deli a try, at least once, and you may realize that their store produces as good a product and probably better at cheaper prices than what you find most of the places.

I thought I reviewed this spot ages ago. My first run in with Tony's was years back, just cruising through the area on my way home and came upon this little grocer and deli. Had my first sandwich and purchased a couple must have items. Tony's style giardiniera, fresh cheeses, various pasta and who can pass up having roasted red peppers. Tony's is the answer for all my Italian grocery needs and it's not too far off. One time I was in need of large pasta shells. You won't believe how hard it is to find these. Most chain grocers carry the typical size shells. I needed extra large shells for an intense stuffed shell recipe. After searching many stores I was lucky to find jumbo shells here, so I went with those. I'm told when in need of larger it's best to ask your local grocer to order them for you or hit a restaurant supply store. If you're nearby and in need of an inexpensive meal I say you need to hit up Tony's. A few tables are available for dining in. There are some cold subs for as low as $4.99 for a 15" or $2.99 for a 6". They serve warm and cold subs. The French bread the sandwiches are made on come in these super long loaves so I'm sure if you had a party they could make a party sub. The stores has got its typically grocery needs, full service deli and chilled prepared take home entrees and sandwiches.

Seriously - you're insane if you don't check this place out. The deli sandwiches are to DIE for. I've had most everything off the menu at one time or another, but my favorite by far is the "Pappy." Despite this sandwich being conceived my Mike North (who I think is a babbling douchebag), it is really a little piece of heaven. Imagine fresh, soft Italian bread piled high with roast beef (made in house), Swiss cheese, tomatoes, mayo, and homemade olive salad (the absolute BOMB). Couple this sandwich with a cold cream soda and a bag of kettle chips, and you have yourself one mouth orgasm in the making. Tony's also offers a wide variety of homemade dishes like lasagna, meatballs, and pasta which are available fresh or frozen (I like to take a couple home for late-night microwave madness). There's also a good selection of imported olive oils and spices, if you're into cooking. I've been going to Tony's for almost 15 years, and every time seems better than the rest. IT'S A MUST DO!

I love Tony's and eat there often as work is around the corner. Great subs, prices are very reasonable, and for a bit extra you can get anything in the deli area put on there. Want smoked mozarella, or a little prosciutto? no prob. Really nice eggplant in the prepared section. Soups tend to be *really* hot temp. Grandma up front can be a bit cantankerous, but she warms up a bit if you come around a few times. Make sure you count your change! Also she'll give you the evil eye if you come in on Monday and sit down after about 1:30 as she wants to be layin' patch down Oliphant by 2pm sharp (closing time).

I loved this place. Came here last weekend for a pair of subs - I left with excitement to come back. There is so much here that looks beyond delicious - HUGE Calzones for $7, Lasagna dinners for $5, hard-to-find Caprisi salads you won't find at Dominicks. Shame I don't live in Edison Park any longer - I'd practically live here! Definitely plan on coming back many many more times. A nicely kept secret. If you're looking for a good deli with a great sub sandwich, Caponies down the street is just a joke. The only slight drag is it can be a little tough to find parking (try around the corner by the train tracks and/or Moretti's).

Brought my son in for lunch today. We both had subs, mine was a 15" Italian for $5...yes $5, yes 15". He had a turkey and some Italian meats made the way he wanted it. Good bread, good fresh meats and veggies. We ate at a little table inside and watched TV. He loved it and so did I. Last time I reviewed this place I said I should check out the arancini balls. Well, I did and they might be the best I ever had. The little old lady behind the cash register confirmed that too. Then I had to come back again the next day since my wife liked the arancini so much with our dinner, so I had to get a few more. And if I haven't said it before, check out the frozen ravioli too.

Tony's Italian deli (sigh) you are the best, I grew up with you, you are my earliest food memories, American subs as a youngster, Italian subs as I expanded my tastes a bit, your meatballs are the best, and the Pappy Sub? ohmigod... the Best. Your subs have accompanied me on many roadtrips and vacations, I have eaten you out of a cooler in the parking lot of Great America cause nothing in the park can compare, you were the first thing I did when I got off the plane after moving back from Vegas. You can do no wrong (except maybe giving Mike North the credit for the Pappy) your pasta selection amazes me, your arancini are the size of my head (and just as good-looking) and I don't care what any of the other reviewers have said, seeing your mother at the register is the highlight of every visit. Vito and Maria are the best of Chicago local business and I hope to keep going to Tony's forever. Seriously though folks, the subs here define what a sub should be, I grew up down the block and I drive 30 minutes across the city when I want a sub because nothing else compares. oh, and their muffaletta is the best you'll find in Chicago.

I first discovered Tony's Deli 12 years ago when I worked at the nearby Happy Foods. The charming storefront isn't at all hard to miss, yet I never knew that tucked beyond the claustrophobic aisles was a treasure trove of delicious deli sandwiches and pasta salads. Jimmy John's, Subway ... keep 'em. For half the price you can get an authentic deli sandwich that tastes twice as good. If you're in a rush, they have sandwiches and salads ready-made in the fridge. I've admittedly never sampled anything else at Tony's, but everyone raves about the pasta sauce. The only thing that knocks this joint down a notch is the cantankerous, old woman at the register. Customer service simply isn't her specialty, and she's almost a parody of an elderly Italian lady from the old country. Perhaps it's time she stays behind the scenes if she can't show simple courtesy to paying customers.

I got my first sampling of Tony's catered food at a friend's party. After sampling the Mostaccioli, Italian beef, and Italian sausage I knew I was going to come here for my next event. So, when I had people over for NYE, I ordered the Mostaccioli with meat sauce. One large pan served my 15+ guests and still provided leftovers for my roomie and I for weeks (we eventually had to throw it out!). Just keep in mind that this is take-and-bake style. Service was good (ordered 2 days in advance and my food was ready on time), food was great, parking was easy.

I love love love delis and sandwiches - jewish, italian, polish! At Tony's, I love the Italian grandma who runs the register. Everyone is really nice and helpful and the store has many Italian specialty items. Somehow I feel better buying my pasta here because it's Italian approved, even if it's Barilla! Previously, we had Tony's cater my partner's birthday party. We needed something simple that would feed a lot of people and feel them well. Tony's hit the spot with two variety party trays of sandwiches they even cut them for us! How convenient. By the end of the night, the sandwiches were gone, so that speaks to the quality. I have to say that while their Italian beef is good, it's not the best I've had in the city, but it works and it's close. Also, they have super cheap homemade pasta and olive salads that you can purchase in bulk. A variety of subs that are sure to please your sandwich cravings and assorted yummy Orangina from France. Next time I'm going to try a muffuletta.

I have been a incredibly happy customer for Tony's for five years now and all I can say is that when it comes to Italian Deli's in a city with a lot of them this one is far and away the best. First off the Deli section has a great selections of meats and pastas but the real gem is the sandwiches. All of them are delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality and size you receive. Their best are the Italian, Pappy, American and Meatball. I eat here at least once a week for that last 5 years and haven't gotten sick of it yet. They have a small store where you can buy a wide variety of Italian ingredients like olive oil, pasta, sweets, and other random ingredients. They have a large pre-made freezer where you can buy frozen pasta that is wonder full and also very inexpensive. The staff is what really sells the place though. It is family owned and operated and is about as authentic Italian as you can get from with 3 generations working the store every day. Tony's is one of the gems of the Chicago area and you wont find a better Italian deli in the city.

I certainly can't be the only one who's done the Tony's/Conca D'Oro combo visit. Just the selection alone I can see how this place has many people talking about it. There's a lot of good things going for this place that I'm not going to bother to list since I'm sure its been already said in one of the reviews. Calzones here were weird as my sausage one contained no cheese or sauce at all. And my pizza bread hardly had any sauce either. With that said, I really liked this place, a lot better than the stores around Elmwood Park.

4 stars on the sandwich, but 2 stars on the customer service. I came in at 5PM on Saturday and got a sandwich at the deli section. The young lady, who I believe is one of the daughters of the family that runs the place was very friendly and recommended me a sandwich. However, my experience at the cashier (Mama), was not a pleasant one. I did not get a "Hello or a How are you?" and when I asked if it was OK to eat the sandwich at her shop, she looked at her watch as if to say "No". When I asked again, she again looked at the watch and said that there is time. Who knows, maybe she was having a bad day, but customers, especially those that are friendly, should be treated well. I gave this place three stars because the sandwich was good and the young lady that prepared it had a nice attitude.

I've been coming to Tony's Deli for years, even more when I used to work in Edison Park. You walk in there and it's a change of pace from your usual spots. Not your typical convenience store, but a smattering of European Italian culture in Chicago. Most of of their aisles contain imported goods from Italy, both in terms of food and gifts. The big thing that sets them apart is how many homemade items they carry. The submarine sandwiches are made fresh, the soup is homemade, the pastas in the coolers are homemade, and the Italian Beef is to die for. In my opinion the best Italian Beef in the City of Chicago. Nothing compares to them. Whether you need a few groceries and some deli meats and cheeses, or desire a little lunch, this is a gem of a store that will never disappoint.

I've been coming here for about 6 years since I heard about the place. I'd been looking around Chicago for an Italian Deli, so many on the South Side closed when the neighborhoods turned Mexican. Go Figure. Anyhow, Tony's has really reasonable prices, great selection and is always willing to talk to you. I've always had great service here. On a side note, there's a really old school bakery next door...I don't know the name, but it has the best cannoli, hands down. Every time I go to Tony's, I stop next door and buy a box.

I used to be a regular, living a few blocks away dropping $10-15 a week in cold cuts but after trying to use a coupon for $5 off total purchase and being refused the owners dim-witted mom who thought I was a relative I stopped going there. I offered the coupon she said no ? Tony was standing nearby, always hovering, and said they don't accept entertainment coupons. So why did they create it ? I refused the purchase and walked out. This is one of the BEST Italian delis in all of Chicago. I grew up having Tony's famous pasta sauce for dinner once a week. My family has also used Tony's for parties: their spinach lasagna, Italian beef, and broccoli and olive oil pasta are perfect for a get together. Be sure to try one of the subs- they come on the delicious Italian bread and are full of Italian meats and cheeses- plus, they are huge. This is the type of place you can come in and as soon as you step in the door you smell Italy. The aisles of imported pastas, sauces, cookies, breads, etc. This is a great place to shop for authentic Italian goodies. I have a lot of reasons to love the Northwest side of Chicago and just as many to dislike it (I grew up there, so I have opinions), but Tony's is pretty much everything I love about this part of town. Using the rule of thumb taught to me by my dad and uncle when I worked for them in junior high and high school, which is "if city workers and cops eat there, YOU eat there," I knew this place was going to be great. The service was speedy, bare bones and very "Chicago." In fact, the "Chicago accent" runs pretty deep in this place. So much so that I felt my well concealed NW side accent start to come out while talking to my co-workers. Solid place. They seem to have a pretty decent grocery selection, specializing in Italian foods too. There's a whole aisle of just oils. Good stuff.

Very pleased with this little deli in Edison Park. I love the fresh breads, the frozen handmade pastas, the reasonably priced groceries such as tomato paste and olive oil. Cheese selection is decent for such a small refrigerator case. But the BEST items are the pre-made meals such as pastas, sausage & peppers, baked artichokes, arancini balls etc. If you want a quick, AWESOME dinner, this is the place to go. Also, Mom (who you will see working the cash register) makes the delicious pasta sauce you can buy by the pint or quart (plain, meat or vodka), which is the best I have ever had (aside from my own*cough cough* ) as well as all the little cookies next to the register up front. This is important to know because I was in there one day when the guy in front of me asked her if the bread & cookies came from the bakery next door. Boy, if looks could kill that man would have been burned to a crisp that day as she said "NO. I MAKE EVERYTHING HERE!!" haha. You go Mama! Anyway, the reason I knocked off a star is because even though the sandwiches made in the deli are decently priced, they come sans condiments which was a huge surprise the first time I bit into one. No mayo, mustard, nothing! And you arent given any in little packets either. Thats just weird to me and kind of gross. Thanks for the dry sammich Tony. What the heck!

I am super impressed. I haven't had the opportunity to check the place out in person, but I was fortunate enough to taste their food at a party thrown by friends yesterday. Their antipasto tray was super impressive...the size of car wheel. It was laden with marinated olives, mushrooms, artichokes, cheeses, salami, etc. I also tasted their mostaccioli with meat sauce, cheese ravioli, pasta salad, and Italian beef. The meat sauce was to die for. I will definitely try them for my next catered event!

Their meatball sandwich is a perfect balance of delicious meatballs tasty sauce and peppers and nice soft fresh bread. All the sandwiches are top shelf. They have a nice assortment of sides in true Italian style. TRY IT. You will not be disappointed. The food store side has all the AUTHENTIC stuff. San Marzano tomatoes ... :) fresh cheeses, imported pastas, seriously aged balsamic (so good it makes me dizzy) and more you name it. They also do prepped foods so you can just take home and heat and pretend like you're a pro when you serve it, and all at fair prices. Then there are the intangibles as others have noted ... it's a true family run local business, support this place people.

I didn't know about Tony's until I saw the ad in the Sun-Times. I am glad I found this place. The meats are very high quality and the Italian Beef and Sausage Combo was great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning and trying some of the other food both hot and ready to warm at home. If you are in the Edison Park area of Chicago, this is a must try place. My only minor problem was the parking, but that is a product of the area, too many great places in the neighborhood. There is a lot near the park for all the local businesses and also limited meter parking on the street. Again, I will be returning!

A great selection of the finest Italian imported deli meats , fresh made sides and cheeses. The neighborhood is like the north sides version of little Italy. I pretty much only get sandwiches form here which are pricey until you see how big these suckers are. Simply the best of the Italian delis in town, and I've tried most of them. Their submarine sandwiches are superior. The meats, cheeses, prepared foods, etc., are the freshest and most tasty available. I reluctantly reduced the rating to four stars because of the bad treatment I have repeatedly received at the cash register. The cashier is an old Italian lady with a hostile attitude. She usually short changes me, and when I call her on it she becomes defensive. Once when I took my purchases to the counter and was nibbling on a sample of their Parmesano Reggiano, she looked at me with a chilling glare and demanded "Where did you get that". I replied that it had been given to me as a sample at the deli counter. "Who gave it to you" she damanded. I replied that it was the man who I presumed was the owner. "What was his name?" she asked. Well, I had had enough, so I told her that I had sneaked behind the counter disguised as a Carabinieri officer, taken a large knife, chopped off a piece of the cheese for msyelf and simply stole it. She fixed me with a stare that was so hateful that I damned near left my purchases on the counter and walked out before paying. I go to the other delis frequently for the sweet behavior of the people that operate them, and their food is generally very good. I still go to Tony's, too, when my desire for quality overrides my reluctance to deal with humorless and miserable thief that runs the register.

I got a chance to swing through Tony's Italian Deli this past week. All I can say is that it's a real shame i'll have to travel all the way to Edison Park to fulfill my Italian Deli needs!! Living on the North side of Chicago, you would think us city dwellers would have better access to a classic Italian deli, complete with delicious meats and pastas. The fact that we really DONT have one, only dawned on me when I went searching for one last week! I love making homemade pizza, but making the dough can be laborious and somewhat time consuming. So I went searching for an Italian deli...since a little known secret is that they tend to sell their own frozen dough for pizzas. Well, once I realized that this simply wasn't going to happen in my neighborhood, I went searching on Yelp and low and behold, I found Tony's! This spot is really great! Edison Park is a cool little neighborhood, filled with an apparent and vibrant Italian population. Italian cafes and restaurants adorn the entire downtown. This is also where Tony's has set up shop. You are immediately confronted with the classic signs in the window offering specials on Prosciutto and homemade pastas. Upon walking in, it has that old and claustrophobic feeling, where shelves are cluttered with pastas and oils. I noticed they had some really nice stuff like sun dried tomato paste and nice Italian anchovies. Towards the back, they have a massive deli, selling some really nice Italian specialty meats and cheeses. Giant chunks of parmesan and Brasaola...what the hell else could you want? In this very deli, they also make specialty sandwiches. The meatball sandwich I had was really very delicious and a steal for around $5. On the other side of the deli, they have a freezer, selling their homemade pastas and meatballs. Their pasta looked fantastic and was a great price for simple stuff like Gnocchi and ravioli. This is where I also found the pizza dough, which turned out to be of excellent quality and made a fantastic pizza! It was a huge chunk for only $2.50 and could make at least two pizzas!! Overall, this is a great place. We could really use a spot like this somewhere in the north side!! It will definitely become a regular destination spot for me, where i'll stock up on pastas and dough. And per the numerous customer service complaints, I had a great experience and everyone was really nice.

This is an outstanding, old-school Italian deli. The meats are of the highest quality. Be sure to check out the tasty proscuitto, capicola and pancetta. The olive salad is also among the best I have sampled. The friendly staff at the deli will also grind the parmesan for you after you pick out your slice of course...The homemade food they have in the cooler/freezer is fantastic too with a great selection of ravioli and pasta dishes. Don't forget to pick up some uber-fresh bread on your way out.

Tony's has prepared foods, deli service, and does catering as well. Right on N.West Hwy it can be hard at times to park, but it's well worth it. Stop in for imported Italian foods, oil, pasta, etc. We've used their catering for many holiday parties, but caution you not to buy anything that's not overtly italian from here. We tried the sandwich tray and it was lackluster. Stick to antipasta and lasgana. Stop by the bakery two doors over and get some italian cookies.

If you're looking for a true authentic deli sandwich, this is the place to stop. They also have a wide variety Italian drinks, olive oil, pasta and more. Their homemade sausage is delicious, which you can buy per pound. Just stop by and enjoy their food. You will not be disappointed. This is a family owned businesses, which has been around for years. And if anyone has been around for that long. They obviously know what they are doing. I can tell you one thing., if I am ever around this area, you can guarantee that I will be stopping in for one of their super subs, and the homemade cannoli.

Used his bare fingers... Good value for a gigantic 15" sub... But the gentleman who worked the deli was cleaning as I came in 25 minutes before closing (closes at 6pm). Saw him use his fingers to make my sandwich. Really would have been nice if he used plastic gloves, since he used his hands to get the tomatoes, ham, and lettus etc. This really turned me off. Cheap labor (from south of the border) doesn't have to be bad. Maybe it's lack of training. Or maybe it's just me acting/feeling weird about this man using his fingers to put the wet ham and tomatoes on my sandwich... Low price, low quality. Was expecting more like Ernesto's (next to Gumba Joe's).

Oh, Tony's you know the way to my heart: stacked meats and cheeses! I really enjoy coming to this lovingly ran family business. My husband and I love coming here and getting these delicious deli sandwiches. Our favorite sub is the sliced Turkey breast. I mean there isnt anything super out of the ordinary on it. Lots of turkey, tomato, lettuce, mayo. There is something about that bread and quality of their products that make this sandwich so delicious. They also serve ready to eat foods like calzones (another one of our favorites), pasta salads, fresh made pasta dishes and sauces, etc. A sweet family owned and operated place serving quality food to its patrons. The consistency in the quality of their food and superior service makes them second to none. Just make sure not to come by on Mondays, they are closed. You don't know how many times my husband and I have done that. D'oh! Street parking is plentiful.

I've been here more than once because my job is nearby. I love their sub sandwiches because they are fresh and flavorful. I we to Tony's at 10 AM in the morning to have a very early lunch, and I decided to try the Capresi sandwich because it sounded very fresh. They had another vegetarian option too, in case anyone wanted to try that. The mozzarella was amazing- so simple. Also, that vinaigrette added the perfect tang to my sandwich. I felt really healthy after I ate that sandwich. I ordered a 15", which is their largest size and I honestly could have eaten the whole thing. It was that light. The place is a deli store, so they sell breads, cheeses, meats. When I went in the morning, there was already a handful of people buying things. They have some good looking things. I also like their soda options. I got some Pellingrino to go with my sandwich, which is exactly the refreshment I need. There is a minimum before you can use your credit card. I would suggest bringing cash if all you're buying is a sub.

I really like Tony's. I was home for a week recovering from surgery and walked here three times for a sub for lunch! Mostly the italian with hot peppers. The first time i ordered a King but they gave a Super - 15 inches of sandwich! Of course I ate it all like the dirty slut that I am. The people are really friendly - I feel like I could go in and ask for anything and they would try to help me. Treat yourself. Stop by Tony's some time.

Great food and great atmosphere. This is a legitimate neighborhood Italian shop and deli. When I walked in and saw all of the food I got really excited because it was really authentic. There's a great meat and cheese selection and a lot of other foods imported from Italy. One of my favorite parts was walking by the cheese. It smelled so good :). If you have the opportunity you should definitely come here to eat and buy food.

This is a great little store. Don't let the size fool you. They have all the fixings for a great Italian dinner. In the deli , they make sandwiches, and also have hot items, like pizza and pasta dishes. I went with an Italian sub, cheese and spinach pizza slice, pasta salad(I will not pass an opportunity to have pasta salad!) and cannoli. The food was good, the prices were very reasonable and the people working here were really friendly! It's definitely worth checking out.

Given the great Yelp reviews, I had to try this place out. $5.99 for a 15 inch sub? Did I just walk into 1993? This place is absolutely incredible. The subs are delicious, and the service is wonderful. This is bar-none the best place to grab lunch in Edison Park, it is only a very short drive from my office in Rosemont. Tony's is also a full deli and Italian grocery store, I recently brought home their homemade Italian beef, it was wonderful, and I highly recommend giving it a try. I can't wait to sample out everything else!

I can't remember why I forgot about this place. Last Sunday, we spent the day working and were starving come lunch time. My husband suggested Tony's, and I was like "Oh yeah!" We ordered 2 subs - one American, one Italian and split both. A little hot giardinara on the Italian and it was just delicious. For dessert, we got a small container of mango Italian ice to take home. Hit the spot on a super hot day. I've also been here for lunch on a workday. They have subs ready to go if you're in a hurry, or they will make you one fresh. There's a cute little seating area in the front of the store, if you have time. Oh, and I love the cute little store with all the imports from Italy. My Italian grandmother used to love this place!

This place is an amazing find. The meatballs are super good. Snagged several homemade dinner options to go as well. Chicago IL - The people working here are wonderful! Kind and helpful, the kind of service that makes a 5 star experience. The deli is filled with all kinds of grocery items and desserts. After having some sub sandwiches we opted to grab some tiramisu and gelato. The girl at the counter threw in a free cheese pastry! I would say this is more a 2.5 star. I've been craving an Italian sub for the last couple days but didn't want to drive all the way down to JP Grazianos/Bari/D'Amatos. Yelp directed me to Tonys and its 4.5 star rating. This place reminds me very much of Bari with the sandwiches made in the back of the grocery store but that's where the similarities end. The Italian sub was a little lite on the meats and the dressing wasn't great. The biggest disparity was the bread. The bread is TERRIBLE. Have a sub from one of the places I mentioned above and once you do a comparison, you probably won't ever go back to Tony's. The muffaletta had more meat and the chopped olive mix was really good but it also suffered from awful, awful bread. It was stale and a little too hard, causing the sandwich to spill its guts when I attempted to bite into it. I remember seeing a hot muffaletta on TV so I put mine in the toaster oven to see if it would improve things. Toasting made all the difference! It was a totally different tasting sandwich. The prices were great (less than $4 for a 9" Italian and $6 muffaletta) and Tony's will do in a pinch but unless I find another place close to the north shore, I'll just have to suck it up and drive down to Grand or Randolph.

This is an awesome sandwich shop and small grocery store. I have gotten food catered for parties (sandwich platter, lasagna, salad, etc) and it is affordable and tasty! If you are in Edison Park it is the best place to grab a sandwich for a quick lunch. Lines get a bit long at the deli counter, but they have premade Italian, Turkey and American sandwiches in the pop cooler (at least I think those are the ones premade).

There are many great things about living on the Northwest Side of Chicago, and Tony's is no doubt in the top 10. Just a fantastic place - great food, great service, great variety, great prices. Aside from the lunchtime subs or fish salad, Tony's has been our go-to place for parties for birthdays, First Communions, graduations, etc. Trays of Italian beef, Italian sausage, mostaccioli, all ready to pick up and heat up when we get home. Everything about this place is perfect, from the crew behind the deli counter to the pen taped to the plastic fork at the register. The aroma of Tony's is enough to keep you roaming the aisles for more than a few extra minutes while the food and service are more than enough to keep you coming back for more.

When the moon hits your eyes like a big pizza pie that's amore.....this little joint brings me back in time to 1997 when I visited a quaint family-owned Italian deli in a small village in Italy where the locals were hanging out drinking tiny cups of Expresso, laughing and talking, while the kids were eating Italian ice and everyone was enjoying time with friends and family. We dropped $10 and change for two Italian sub sandwiches and a small container of potato salad. 4-stars, because the sandwiches are made fresh, very authentic Italian foods, and it is "cheap eats." They also make fresh pizza, which you can purchase by the slice. The crust is not great (it is more like a sponge), so skip it all together. Their cannoli treats are home made and excellent. I gave up sweets/sugar, so I didn't get one, this time around. However, I have had them before. The cannolis are ethereal and worthy of 5-stars. It had been a long time since I stopped here. However, we came on Sunday afternoon around 1 pm. I had the Italian sub (6 in.) for $2.99 and a small container of their home made potato salad for $1.09. The sandwich is worthy of 4-stars. The potato salad was a bit bland for my taste so I rate it 2-stars. I wish they would use the same kind of bread that Portillo's uses for their Italian beef sandwiches. My husband had a 9-inch Italian sub for $3.99. The oil that is sprinkled on the sandwich makes the meat, lettuce and tomatoes slide all over the place making it a bit messy to eat. However, the deli meat is definitely fresh. I also like their meat arancini with marinara gravy (Italians call it "gravy" but Americans call it "sauce"). I did not have one because they were all sold out. I was very disappointed. There are four or five tables so if you want to eat there -- it's convenient. There were two other couples eating sandwiches when we sat down to have our lunch. Parking in this area is really a royal pain in the ass. We went around the block several times before finding a legal parking spot. Parking is free on Sunday, but otherwise, it is "Pay to Park" on other days. The people who work here are hospitable. This is a Mom and Pop Italian family owned operation. Sometimes you will see Grandma helping out at the cash register. It's all in the family here! TIP: If you are having a party with 20 people or more, you can order large pans of lasagna, mostaciolli as well as other pasta dishes. They do not cater. You have to place your order and go to their store to pick it up.

I don't know if I would compare it to Bari but it's the closest I've come to that even warrants the chance of another visit. The location is great for us. I will definitely go back. This place is great. Get the wedding soup, bocconcini salad, roast beef, and if you have a party get the tin of Italian sausage and peppers. It's the best. I also crave the macaroni salad and the mushroom ravioli. Any of the frozen pastas are great. Dump them in boiling water right out of the freezer and add any sauce. I love Tonys white sauce and meat sauce. Only bad thing is the bread is not always fresh on Sunday. Oh yeah and get the cannoli holy crap they are good and cheesy.

If you're ever in need of a good Italian samich fixin! Head over here. It's as if you stepped into your italian grandmother's pantry. You will not only find sandwiches here but all sorts of goodies. It's a fantastic grocery store. You have pastas, bread, cheeses, you name it. The staff is friendly. All the way in the back you gear up to get any kind of sandwich you want made fresh. I usually go with the prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and dressing sandwich. Fantastic prosciutto sliced fresh... cant beat that. The only thing I would say that could be improved is the bread. I just feel it could use a little more crust, its too soft for my taste but nonetheless delicious. They have freshly made Italian dishes ready to go, cold salads... ma you can't lose here. I love that they carry lots of Italian specialities..and that they are conveniently located in the NW side of the city-saves me a trip to the other Italian shops further south on Harlem. Their sandwiches are life savors when you are on the go..however my lower review comes from the fact that the man making the sandwiches was not using plastic gloves. I am not a germ a phobe but at least when someone is preparing my food- I expect them to abide by the city's health code regulations. I cant say I enjoyed the sandwich since I didnt know where his hands had been. I wish I had spoken up.

Tony's is an Edison Park institution. Great deli, great sandwiches to order. Moved out of the area a while back but when I get down that way I usually stop. When I lived nearby, I was a regular. No question that (former) Mayor Douchebag's (Daley) galactic parking scam has hurt his biz - and thousands of others around the city. Even with the parking meter fleece I definitely plan to make regular visits again. Their stuff is that good.

I've never been to Italy but coming to Tony's Deli's like getting to experience a little bit of Italy. They have a great deli section and awesome desserts (eg. Canollis, Italian cookies, etc), grocery items, breads, amusing Italian T-Shirts. But they also sell plates that would make any "want to be" Italian Chef plate their food in these colorful plates. If you are in the area, you have to stop by.

Went here today for lunch as I was having a craving for an Italian Sub. Found it on Yelp so my wife and I made the trek here from Portage Park. Quaint little Italian deli and grocery with a nice sit down area to enjoy your purchase. My wife had the veggie sub which she said was good and I had their Muffaletta which I thought was great. Packaged Breadsticks I purchased were delicious, smelled good in there, nice people, but the Turkey on my sandwich was lower grade than Jimmy Johns and Subway. It was slimy and rubbery. I ended up eating a cheese sandwich after I pulled the turkey off. Packaged Items only from there moving forward. Or Ill just go to Subway and save a buck.

Came here for the sandwiches. Living on the North Shore, was hoping to have a place closer than Bari. The store is clean..and bigger than I thought it would be. The people are very friendly. The sandwiches were OK. As I have written in some other reviews, it's a matter of taste. Had the Italian and the Veggie Subs. The Italian was not skimpy. The veggie was interesting. Had roasted peppers, motz, and artichokes as well other vegetables. The bread was the part that was OK. Too soft for my taste. I was hoping for a sub roll that was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The veggie was pretty soggy because it. I'm sure that a number of folks would and should rate this a 5 star. It just wasn't what I was hoping for.

Okay so its not that hard to find an Italian deli in Chicago, But to find a good Deli is not that easy. I love Tony's the Subs are great and they have a full line of imported goods from Italy. I am not a fan of the Italian sausage here, I do go else where for my Italian Sausage, But i am sure that is just preference and individual taste. They are very nice here and if you go in at lunch to get a sub be ready to wait, the line gets long at lunch time. The sub is worth the wait, If you are not hip to what to get do yourself a favor and get a prosciutto and provolone sub. they also make it with fresh mozzarella which is amazing. Also before i forget the prices for the subs are very very reasonable. They also have a great selection of Italian cookies and pastries just like my mom makes. good stuff, take it from some one who is 100% Italian when looking into any Italian deli or restaurant ;)

I love this place! It is my go to Italian market. Their sandwiches are great with nice fresh bread ( try the Muffaletta (sp?) ) and the variety of product is impressive. The parking is a little bothersome though but don't let deter you from trying Tony's.

I'm not sure what all the great reviews are for. Lived by Tony's all my life, every now and then I go in to remember why I don't go there. Ordered an Italian Sub. Asked for onions on it with the lettuce. An obviously annoyed employee, I think one of the daughters, said we don't put onions on an italian sub. I told her I knew that, that's why I asked for them. She said they couldn't do it. I also asked for just oil - no vinegar. She told me they have a vinegar and oil mix, I again asked for just oil. She said they did not have just oil. I was flabbeghasted. The store has an entire aisle full of oil, yet they could not put any on my sandwhich. And I could undersdtand if it was in the middle of lunch rush and they were busy, but I was the only one in the store. She was quick to point out that I could buy a bottle off the shelf. And what kind of Italian Deli doesn't have onions? I also bought a roast beef sub for my daughter and asked if she could give me some of the more well done slices. What I received was a bloody mess, it was like she went out of her way to give me the rarest slices. It went right to the dog. The sub was nothing special, the bread is lousy and too small. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor by serving you. From now on I'll keep driving north and go to Jersey Mike's in Park Ridge, at least they will make the sandwhich the way I ask.

The staff was helpful in assisting us with our order, and I would recommend renting the heating trays if you are having a party. I regret not knowing about Tony's sooner. I read the good reviews for the deli sandwiches. I am always looking for a good sub (my favorites are in the city and difficult to find a good sub this far west) decided I needed to check them out seeing as they are just a few min from work. I had a tuna sub; it was good, nothing spectacular. My complaint is the size vs filling ratio. The bread is delicious, my preference would be more filling and less bread for the sandwich - specifically an inch less to the sub for a thicker portion of fillingt. I selected a "super", expecting to have half for dinner and half for lunch and that worked out to be just right amount. The price is pretty good for the volume of sandwich. Partner had a Papy's beef sub - adorned with olive salad, swiss and mayo. I liked that better than the tuna and I regretted not ordering that for myself. I rate this beef higher than my previous front-runner, Hero's beef. The tuna falls short of my current front-runner tie Babarinos vs Hero's. Perused the to go entrees. All looked so tasty and fresh, eggplant parm, ravioli, sausage n peppers. I selected lasagna and stuffed shells to have for dinner the following evening. I didn't think much about the lasagna but loved the stuffed shells, not to sweet, not too runny and the ever important, sauce not too tangy. I also picked up a small tub of meat sauce that provided a hearty beefy flavor and a few big chunks of sweet italian sausage. I also purchased a jar of their olive salad to use when I make my own sandwiches. (You may gather from a few of my other reviews, I LOVE OLIVES!) I would rate 3.75 if I could because the elderly lady at the register overcharged me by $2 which I didn't find out until I left. I will be going back to try the beef sandwich, the giardinera, the italian sub; .....well guess I am going to have to make Tony's a regular in my rotation!

I ate at this deli prior to the renovation. I love not only the food, but also the family ambiance. Grandma works the counter while Vito and the girls work the deli. I have only had the opportunity to sample their sandwiches, however I am positive that their other food is just as good. I have been coming here for over ten years. Saturday's are busy and parking can be a problem. If you like olives, you'll love the Big Pappy and Muffuletta Subs. They both have the olive spread, they're amazing.

Tony's deli I dig because it's a throwback to the days of neighborhood grocery stores, mom and pop shops, people who know you (even though I don't really know them but I wish I did), with great food made by the people who actually sell you the food. Whole Food seems to have gotten credit that they are the originators of freshly prepared food. Okay, I'll give them organic, but the owners of Tony's deli and people and businesses like them have been doing this for years without all the fanfare by suburban soccer moms and popular media. You want a great sandwich, they have them. You want freshly made lasagna, they have it and in many varieties. The best olive oil, pasta, olives they have along with the assortment of commonly loved Italian specialties. Before you road trip to to your local supermarket, Subway franchise or any other nationally known chain, give Tony's deli a try, at least once, and you may realize that their store produces as good a product and probably better at cheaper prices than what you find most of the places.

I thought I reviewed this spot ages ago. My first run in with Tony's was years back, just cruising through the area on my way home and came upon this little grocer and deli. Had my first sandwich and purchased a couple must have items. Tony's style giardiniera, fresh cheeses, various pasta and who can pass up having roasted red peppers. Tony's is the answer for all my Italian grocery needs and it's not too far off. One time I was in need of large pasta shells. You won't believe how hard it is to find these. Most chain grocers carry the typical size shells. I needed extra large shells for an intense stuffed shell recipe. After searching many stores I was lucky to find jumbo shells here, so I went with those. I'm told when in need of larger it's best to ask your local grocer to order them for you or hit a restaurant supply store. If you're nearby and in need of an inexpensive meal I say you need to hit up Tony's. A few tables are available for dining in. There are some cold subs for as low as $4.99 for a 15" or $2.99 for a 6". They serve warm and cold subs. The French bread the sandwiches are made on come in these super long loaves so I'm sure if you had a party they could make a party sub. The stores has got its typically grocery needs, full service deli and chilled prepared take home entrees and sandwiches.

Seriously - you're insane if you don't check this place out. The deli sandwiches are to DIE for. I've had most everything off the menu at one time or another, but my favorite by far is the "Pappy." Despite this sandwich being conceived my Mike North (who I think is a babbling douchebag), it is really a little piece of heaven. Imagine fresh, soft Italian bread piled high with roast beef (made in house), Swiss cheese, tomatoes, mayo, and homemade olive salad (the absolute BOMB). Couple this sandwich with a cold cream soda and a bag of kettle chips, and you have yourself one mouth orgasm in the making. Tony's also offers a wide variety of homemade dishes like lasagna, meatballs, and pasta which are available fresh or frozen (I like to take a couple home for late-night microwave madness). There's also a good selection of imported olive oils and spices, if you're into cooking. I've been going to Tony's for almost 15 years, and every time seems better than the rest. IT'S A MUST DO!

I love Tony's and eat there often as work is around the corner. Great subs, prices are very reasonable, and for a bit extra you can get anything in the deli area put on there. Want smoked mozarella, or a little prosciutto? no prob. Really nice eggplant in the prepared section. Soups tend to be *really* hot temp. Grandma up front can be a bit cantankerous, but she warms up a bit if you come around a few times. Make sure you count your change! Also she'll give you the evil eye if you come in on Monday and sit down after about 1:30 as she wants to be layin' patch down Oliphant by 2pm sharp (closing time).

I loved this place. Came here last weekend for a pair of subs - I left with excitement to come back. There is so much here that looks beyond delicious - HUGE Calzones for $7, Lasagna dinners for $5, hard-to-find Caprisi salads you won't find at Dominicks. Shame I don't live in Edison Park any longer - I'd practically live here! Definitely plan on coming back many many more times. A nicely kept secret. If you're looking for a good deli with a great sub sandwich, Caponies down the street is just a joke. The only slight drag is it can be a little tough to find parking (try around the corner by the train tracks and/or Moretti's).

Brought my son in for lunch today. We both had subs, mine was a 15" Italian for $5...yes $5, yes 15". He had a turkey and some Italian meats made the way he wanted it. Last time I reviewed this place I said I should check out the arancini balls. Well, I did and they might be the best I ever had. The little old lady behind the cash register confirmed that too. Tony's Italian deli (sigh) you are the best, I grew up with you, you are my earliest food memories, American subs as a youngster, Italian subs as I expanded my tastes a bit, your meatballs are the best, and the Pappy Sub? ohmigod... the Best. Your subs have accompanied me on many roadtrips and vacations, I have eaten you out of a cooler in the parking lot of Great America cause nothing in the park can compare, you were the first thing I did when I got off the plane after moving back from Vegas. You can do no wrong (except maybe giving Mike North the credit for the Pappy) your pasta selection amazes me, your arancini are the size of my head (and just as good-looking) and I don't care what any of the other reviewers have said, seeing your mother at the register is the highlight of every visit. Vito and Maria are the best of Chicago local business and I hope to keep going to Tony's forever. Seriously though folks, the subs here define what a sub should be, I grew up down the block and I drive 30 minutes across the city when I want a sub because nothing else compares. oh, and their muffaletta is the best you'll find in Chicago.

I first discovered Tony's Deli 12 years ago when I worked at the nearby Happy Foods. The charming storefront isn't at all hard to miss, yet I never knew that tucked beyond the claustrophobic aisles was a treasure trove of delicious deli sandwiches and pasta salads. Jimmy John's, Subway ... keep 'em. For half the price you can get an authentic deli sandwich that tastes twice as good. If you're in a rush, they have sandwiches and salads ready-made in the fridge. I've admittedly never sampled anything else at Tony's, but everyone raves about the pasta sauce. The only thing that knocks this joint down a notch is the cantankerous, old woman at the register. Customer service simply isn't her specialty, and she's almost a parody of an elderly Italian lady from the old country. Perhaps it's time she stays behind the scenes if she can't show simple courtesy to paying customers.

I got my first sampling of Tony's catered food at a friend's party. After sampling the Mostaccioli, Italian beef, and Italian sausage I knew I was going to come here for my next event. So, when I had people over for NYE, I ordered the Mostaccioli with meat sauce. One large pan served my 15+ guests and still provided leftovers for my roomie and I for weeks (we eventually had to throw it out!). Just keep in mind that this is take-and-bake style. Service was good (ordered 2 days in advance and my food was ready on time), food was great, parking was easy.

I love love love delis and sandwiches - jewish, italian, polish! At Tony's, I love the Italian grandma who runs the register. Everyone is really nice and helpful and the store has many Italian specialty items. Somehow I feel better buying my pasta here because it's Italian approved, even if it's Barilla! Previously, we had Tony's cater my partner's birthday party. We needed something simple that would feed a lot of people and feel them well. Tony's hit the spot with two variety party trays of sandwiches they even cut them for us! How convenient. By the end of the night, the sandwiches were gone, so that speaks to the quality. I have to say that while their Italian beef is good, it's not the best I've had in the city, but it works and it's close. Also, they have super cheap homemade pasta and olive salads that you can purchase in bulk. A variety of subs that are sure to please your sandwich cravings and assorted yummy Orangina from France. Next time I'm going to try a muffuletta.

I have been a incredibly happy customer for Tony's for five years now and all I can say is that when it comes to Italian Deli's in a city with a lot of them this one is far and away the best. First off the Deli section has a great selections of meats and pastas but the real gem is the sandwiches. All of them are delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality and size you receive. Their best are the Italian, Pappy, American and Meatball. I eat here at least once a week for that last 5 years and haven't gotten sick of it yet. They have a small store where you can buy a wide variety of Italian ingredients like olive oil, pasta, sweets, and other random ingredients. They have a large pre-made freezer where you can buy frozen pasta that is wonder full and also very inexpensive. The staff is what really sells the place though. It is family owned and operated and is about as authentic Italian as you can get from with 3 generations working the store every day. Tony's is one of the gems of the Chicago area and you wont find a better Italian deli in the city.

I certainly can't be the only one who's done the Tony's/Conca D'Oro combo visit. Just the selection alone I can see how this place has many people talking about it. There's a lot of good things going for this place that I'm not going to bother to list since I'm sure its been already said in one of the reviews. Calzones here were weird as my sausage one contained no cheese or sauce at all. And my pizza bread hardly had any sauce either. With that said, I really liked this place, a lot better than the stores around Elmwood Park.

4 stars on the sandwich, but 2 stars on the customer service. I came in at 5PM on Saturday and got a sandwich at the deli section. The young lady, who I believe is one of the daughters of the family that runs the place was very friendly and recommended me a sandwich. However, my experience at the cashier (Mama), was not a pleasant one. I did not get a "Hello or a How are you?" and when I asked if it was OK to eat the sandwich at her shop, she looked at her watch as if to say "No". When I asked again, she again looked at the watch and said that there is time. Who knows, maybe she was having a bad day, but customers, especially those that are friendly, should be treated well. I gave this place three stars because the sandwich was good and the young lady that prepared it had a nice attitude.

I've been coming to Tony's Deli for years, even more when I used to work in Edison Park. You walk in there and it's a change of pace from your usual spots. Not your typical convenience store, but a smattering of European Italian culture in Chicago. Most of of their aisles contain imported goods from Italy, both in terms of food and gifts. The big thing that sets them apart is how many homemade items they carry. The submarine sandwiches are made fresh, the soup is homemade, the pastas in the coolers are homemade, and the Italian Beef is to die for. In my opinion the best Italian Beef in the City of Chicago. Nothing compares to them. Whether you need a few groceries and some deli meats and cheeses, or desire a little lunch, this is a gem of a store that will never disappoint.

I've been coming here for about 6 years since I heard about the place. I'd been looking around Chicago for an Italian Deli, so many on the South Side closed when the neighborhoods turned Mexican. Go Figure. Anyhow, Tony's has really reasonable prices, great selection and is always willing to talk to you. I've always had great service here. On a side note, there's a really old school bakery next door...I don't know the name, but it has the best cannoli, hands down. Every time I go to Tony's, I stop next door and buy a box.

I used to be a regular, living a few blocks away dropping $10-15 a week in cold cuts but after trying to use a coupon for $5 off total purchase and being refused the owners dim-witted mom who thought I was a relative I stopped going there. I offered the coupon she said no ? Tony was standing nearby, always hovering, and said they don't accept entertainment coupons. So why did they create it ? I refused the purchase and walked out. This is one of the BEST Italian delis in all of Chicago. I grew up having Tony's famous pasta sauce for dinner once a week. My family has also used Tony's for parties: their spinach lasagna, Italian beef, and broccoli and olive oil pasta are perfect for a get together. Be sure to try one of the subs- they come on the delicious Italian bread and are full of Italian meats and cheeses- plus, they are huge. This is the type of place you can come in and as soon as you step in the door you smell Italy. The aisles of imported pastas, sauces, cookies, breads, etc. This is a great place to shop for authentic Italian goodies. Don't miss the freezer in the back full of Tony's sauce, lasagna, eggplant Parmesan and other classics.

I have a lot of reasons to love the Northwest side of Chicago and just as many to dislike it (I grew up there, so I have opinions), but Tony's is pretty much everything I love about this part of town. Using the rule of thumb taught to me by my dad and uncle when I worked for them in junior high and high school, which is "if city workers and cops eat there, YOU eat there," I knew this place was going to be great. The service was speedy, bare bones and very "Chicago." In fact, the "Chicago accent" runs pretty deep in this place. So much so that I felt my well concealed NW side accent start to come out while talking to my co-workers. Solid place. They seem to have a pretty decent grocery selection, specializing in Italian foods too. There's a whole aisle of just oils. Good stuff.

Very pleased with this little deli in Edison Park. I love the fresh breads, the frozen handmade pastas, the reasonably priced groceries such as tomato paste and olive oil. Cheese selection is decent for such a small refrigerator case. But the BEST items are the pre-made meals such as pastas, sausage & peppers, baked artichokes, arancini balls etc. If you want a quick, AWESOME dinner, this is the place to go. Also, Mom (who you will see working the cash register) makes the delicious pasta sauce you can buy by the pint or quart (plain, meat or vodka), which is the best I have ever had (aside from my own*cough cough* ) as well as all the little cookies next to the register up front. This is important to know because I was in there one day when the guy in front of me asked her if the bread & cookies came from the bakery next door. Boy, if looks could kill that man would have been burned to a crisp that day as she said "NO. I MAKE EVERYTHING HERE!!" haha. You go Mama! Anyway, the reason I knocked off a star is because even though the sandwiches made in the deli are decently priced, they come sans condiments which was a huge surprise the first time I bit into one. No mayo, mustard, nothing! And you arent given any in little packets either. Thats just weird to me and kind of gross. Thanks for the dry sammich Tony. What the heck!

If you have never tried Tony's Deli for lunch, you must give this place a try. The ingredients are always fresh. The quality is always there. They are consistent with their freshness and the taste of their food is insanely fab-u-licious! Tony's Deli always takes me back to northern Italy. It is very authentic to the places one would eat and find in Italy. (Read my other review for recommendations, etc.).

Molto Bene Tony! This place has literally everything you need when it comes to Italian food. The owners are authentic Italian, none of this, " well my grandpa is from there...." no. You can eat in house, one of their freshly made sandwiches or take whatever you need, to go. The place seriously has everything and it's pretty reasonably priced for being the real deal. I am super impressed. I haven't had the opportunity to check the place out in person, but I was fortunate enough to taste their food at a party thrown by friends yesterday. Their antipasto tray was super impressive...the size of car wheel. It was laden with marinated olives, mushrooms, artichokes, cheeses, salami, etc. I also tasted their mostaccioli with meat sauce, cheese ravioli, pasta salad, and Italian beef. The meat sauce was to die for. I will definitely try them for my next catered event!

This place has all the goods from espresso (including instant), a great cheese selection, spices, breads, and take home entrées. Very friendly staff, the side dishes at the deli are a last minute life saver for me to bring to parties the Italian beef is delicious. You CANNOT go wrong with their takeout containers of homemade marinara sauce and I have a really hard time passing up a homemade cannoli at the front register. Love everything about this place.

WOW. I am so happy I found this place. As a lover of Italian foods I always try to find the best and in tonys I believe I have. Their meatball sandwich is a perfect balance of delicious meatballs tasty sauce and peppers and nice soft fresh bread. All the sandwiches are top shelf. They have a nice assortment of sides in true Italian style. TRY IT. You will not be disappointed. The food store side has all the AUTHENTIC stuff. San Marzano tomatoes ... :) fresh cheeses, imported pastas, seriously aged balsamic (so good it makes me dizzy) and more you name it. They also do prepped foods so you can just take home and heat and pretend like you're a pro when you serve it, and all at fair prices. Then there are the intangibles as others have noted ... it's a true family run local business, support this place people.

I didn't know about Tony's until I saw the ad in the Sun-Times. I am glad I found this place. The meats are very high quality and the Italian Beef and Sausage Combo was great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning and trying some of the other food both hot and ready to warm at home. If you are in the Edison Park area of Chicago, this is a must try place. My only minor problem was the parking, but that is a product of the area, too many great places in the neighborhood. There is a lot near the park for all the local businesses and also limited meter parking on the street. Again, I will be returning!

A great selection of the finest Italian imported deli meats , fresh made sides and cheeses. The neighborhood is like the north sides version of little Italy. I pretty much only get sandwiches form here which are pricey until you see how big these suckers are. I am blessed with a few places closer to me to get deli meats a bit cheaper than here , but I have to sacrifice some quality. There is no sacrifice here , great stuff , great sides , stereotypical ambiance . Get your meatball sub on and grab a pound of capicolla while you're at it.

Simply the best of the Italian delis in town, and I've tried most of them. Their submarine sandwiches are superior. The meats, cheeses, prepared foods, etc., are the freshest and most tasty available. I reluctantly reduced the rating to four stars because of the bad treatment I have repeatedly received at the cash register. The cashier is an old Italian lady with a hostile attitude. She usually short changes me, and when I call her on it she becomes defensive. Once when I took my purchases to the counter and was nibbling on a sample of their Parmesano Reggiano, she looked at me with a chilling glare and demanded "Where did you get that". I replied that it had been given to me as a sample at the deli counter. "Who gave it to you" she damanded. I replied that it was the man who I presumed was the owner. "What was his name?" she asked. Well, I had had enough, so I told her that I had sneaked behind the counter disguised as a Carabinieri officer, taken a large knife, chopped off a piece of the cheese for msyelf and simply stole it. She fixed me with a stare that was so hateful that I damned near left my purchases on the counter and walked out before paying. I go to the other delis frequently for the sweet behavior of the people that operate them, and their food is generally very good. I still go to Tony's, too, when my desire for quality overrides my reluctance to deal with humorless and miserable thief that runs the register.

The BEST Italian Beef around! We have ordered it many times in different amounts for parties. Beef in one container and juice separate. Terrific price and just great! Also we have ordered the baked mostaccioli many times and my daughter who is almost 2 LOVES it! We have been shocked by the amount she has eaten at one sitting! I got a chance to swing through Tony's Italian Deli this past week. All I can say is that it's a real shame i'll have to travel all the way to Edison Park to fulfill my Italian Deli needs!! Living on the North side of Chicago, you would think us city dwellers would have better access to a classic Italian deli, complete with delicious meats and pastas. The fact that we really DONT have one, only dawned on me when I went searching for one last week! I love making homemade pizza, but making the dough can be laborious and somewhat time consuming. So I went searching for an Italian deli...since a little known secret is that they tend to sell their own frozen dough for pizzas. Well, once I realized that this simply wasn't going to happen in my neighborhood, I went searching on Yelp and low and behold, I found Tony's! This spot is really great! Edison Park is a cool little neighborhood, filled with an apparent and vibrant Italian population. Italian cafes and restaurants adorn the entire downtown. This is also where Tony's has set up shop. You are immediately confronted with the classic signs in the window offering specials on Prosciutto and homemade pastas. Upon walking in, it has that old and claustrophobic feeling, where shelves are cluttered with pastas and oils. I noticed they had some really nice stuff like sun dried tomato paste and nice Italian anchovies. Towards the back, they have a massive deli, selling some really nice Italian specialty meats and cheeses. Giant chunks of parmesan and Brasaola...what the hell else could you want? In this very deli, they also make specialty sandwiches. The meatball sandwich I had was really very delicious and a steal for around $5. On the other side of the deli, they have a freezer, selling their homemade pastas and meatballs. Their pasta looked fantastic and was a great price for simple stuff like Gnocchi and ravioli. This is where I also found the pizza dough, which turned out to be of excellent quality and made a fantastic pizza! It was a huge chunk for only $2.50 and could make at least two pizzas!! Overall, this is a great place. We could really use a spot like this somewhere in the north side!! It will definitely become a regular destination spot for me, where i'll stock up on pastas and dough. And per the numerous customer service complaints, I had a great experience and everyone was really nice.

This is an outstanding, old-school Italian deli. The meats are of the highest quality. Be sure to check out the tasty proscuitto, capicola and pancetta. The olive salad is also among the best I have sampled. The friendly staff at the deli will also grind the parmesan for you after you pick out your slice of course...The homemade food they have in the cooler/freezer is fantastic too with a great selection of ravioli and pasta dishes. Don't forget to pick up some uber-fresh bread on your way out.

About as stereotypical as a Chicago Italian deli can get. Sweet Italian grandma working behind the counter, spectacular Italian beef and sausage, mobster music for sale behind the counter. I wish I could've tried some more items there, but the place is fantastic for lunch.

Tony's has prepared foods, deli service, and does catering as well. Right on N.West Hwy it can be hard at times to park, but it's well worth it. Stop in for imported Italian foods, oil, pasta, etc. We've used their catering for many holiday parties, but caution you not to buy anything that's not overtly italian from here. We tried the sandwich tray and it was lackluster. Stick to antipasta and lasgana. Stop by the bakery two doors over and get some italian cookies.

I love Tony's. I've been getting subs from here since I was a kid, and it has always been awesome. Puts subway to shame. The Italian subs are the best I've ever tasted. They also have homemade Italian dishes like pasta, beef and salads. I could eat there everyday.

Ive lived in Edison Park for the Majority of my life and not a week goes by that i dont stop at tonys for something... the subs, pizza, frozen dough and pasta, fresh sauce, everything is AWESOME!! Plus, where else can you go in the city for a fresh made sub sandwich that is 6 bucks for a 15" sub??? Its an amazing deal!!! I love everything about tonys EXCEPT the fact that the Grandma doing the register is not very friendly. Nor does she realize that it is, in fact, illegal in Illinois to put a minimum limit for credit cards! But hey, thats minor, and i still keep coming back! Vito and the family are doing a great job!!! Keep it up!!!

Amazing fresh produce and great meat selection! A whole wall is dedicated to every kind of spice one would ever need! This place has everything that a Jewel or Dominick's does not - such things as bannana leaves or habanero peppers - alot more of a mexican/ethnic selection!!! Decent parking lot and great prices!

Best sandwiches ever - italian subs, meatball, italian beef, you name it! Their prepared foods are fantastic as well (lasagna, tortellini, italian ice), perfect for an easy dinner. This is a great deli and grocery. I've been to other specialty markets and know that Tony's has fantastic prices as well.
