This is my go to thai place in my hood. They deliver super quick, have super nice delivery people who sometimes refuse tips (?) and their food is always consistent. I lurve their panang curry, its super spicy and yummy. I also recommend their pineapple fried rice.

OK, like many of my reviews (all 4 of 'em. anyway), I'm qualifying my rating as it's just for the curries, which are all I ever get. First thing many of the paler persuasion folks like myself need to understand is if you want your food "hot" ask for it SPICY, hot just means temperature for many places like this. bonus info given to me by the owner of O Cha (god I loved that place, across from Elbo Room and long gone) was to say "Thai Spicy," then they'll take you seriously. How not to get taken seriously? Imitate the yutz I saw at Opart insisting he liked "all kinds of hot food, Mexican, Italian, you know, hot!" So anyhoo, the curries are great, especially the red and the panang, although the yellow Idaho curry is nice as well. It's not as good as Opart, but quite frankly when we went to Arun's once I thought their curry wasn't any better than this (of course, it was 1/100th of the meal). If there are any better places in Avondale/Logan for Thai I'd like to hear them, but this is quick, dependable, and walking distance- I'd have to agree the delivery is sketchy, I think they have only one guy doing it, and the streets are awful strange in this neck of the woods due to the unusual presence of SW-NE running streets intersecting Milwaukee, which creates very odd little nooks and crannies. Beyond the curries, I haven't been too impressed. The crazy noodle is OK, but otherwise, ehhh. But the curries! We eat there at least twice a month for carry-out, I'll be eating there as long as I'm in the hood, which should be quite some time.

I knocked a star off for service. You'd think being that we were the only 2 customers in the joint we'd be serviced promptly. Nope- as a matter of fact. They were on extra slo' mo. Youd think the menu had to be FedEx'd or something- it took forever to get to our table. The appetizers mediocre if that. Crab rangoon... blah! I thought this place was called Spice? Philly sushi roll... blah. Just another reminder that both my boyfriend and me- make some awesome ass sushi at home. The Pad Thai and Pad Se Yew we ordered were OK, but not great! Someone mentioned there is no good Thai food in Logan Square- I'd rather go to Thai Eatery on Western and Fullerton for good Thai food, over this spiceless and slooooow attempt.
(2)Clover S.
This place was GREAT-- or at least reasonably so for Thai food in Logan Square-- until they recently changed management. I've ordered from this place a TON b/c its one of the only places that I have been assured to get a gluten-free curry. Lately, the orders have been half the size they usually are, and the food is arriving cold and soggy. Tonight, though I live only 3 blocks away, it took them an hour to deliver two entrees, and then they actually forgot one of them. When I called to tell them, it took them another half an hour to arrive with the missing dish... with no offer of compensation at all. It wasn't even worth the wait. Another Logan Square restaurant to cross off the list. :O( ADDENDUM: They no longer serve gluten-free clientele.
(2)Tony R.
I GrubHub The Spice pretty regularly and I have yet to be disappointed! They have some the best pot stickers in town and the crab rangoon is awesome. If you've never tried them go for it, it's well worth it. Nicest people too!
(4)Natalie J.
eating dinner while the x-factor is on the TV? am i eating in someone with shitty taste's family room? no. i'm at a thai restaurant wishing there was more chicken in my panang curry and wondering why we're being largely ignored even though we're some of the only people in here.
(2)Mary Ann G.
Sushi is awesome and the sesame chicken is my favorite.
(5)Priya S.
My husband & I had lunch here yesterday. It was 1pm on a Saturday and we were the only patrons (kinda made us wonder what was wrong with the place). Our waitress was kind & attentive (probably b/c she had no one else to attend to!). There was a lunch special - soup of the day, choice of appetizer and choice of entree for ~$6.25. Great deal. The egg drop soup was nice and hot. I had the cucumber salad and pad woon sen. My husband had the potstickers and pad thai. Overall, everything was pretty good but nothing extraordinary.
(3)Eddy C.
Pretty much your everyday, run-of-the-mill Thai place (in a good way). Pretty good but nothing special. My Panang Curry was very good with loads of chicken. I hate it when Thai joints skimp on the meat so that made me happy. The Tom Yum soup that we got was also loaded on the meat-side and the flavor was tasty as well. My only gripe would be about the Pad Thai that my gf got. It was ... different ... probably because they didn't use any peanut sauce. It tasted a bit bland and the noodles seemed to all stick together, which made it annoying to eat. I definitely would advise getting that dish -- tough luck for all you Pad Thai fans out there. One other thing: right now they have a promotion where you can get a free order of either crab rangoon or shrimp in a blanket if you order $20 or more for carryout/delivery. We opted for the shrimp in a blanket, which turned out to be six whole shrimps each stuffed inside thin egg rolls. Good stuff. Best part was that they offered the promotion to me without me having to ask for it (I wasn't aware of it when I called). Gotta love a place that goes out of its way to give you food for free.
(3)Sylvia M.
Best. Thai. Ever. The Spice hits the spot every time. They have a fabulous amount of vegetarian and vegan options. Try the Idaho Curry, you won't be disappointed! Unless you hate potatoes, then you may be disappointed. The sweet potato tempura maki is too good to pass up.
(5)Christina D.
I like this place for cheap, delivery Thai food... but it's nothing special. They deliver pretty quickly and I have never had any issues with them in terms of that. My boyfriend isn't a big fan of their Green Curry (which is usually his favorite Thai dish), but likes the Crazy Noodle as of late. As for myself, I usually alternate between Mussaman curry and Pad Thai, and they are both tasty. Not the best Crab Rangoon I've ever had, by far, but I still get it whenever I order from here.
(3)Amanda O.
Im a big fan of asian food and it helps that this place is right down the street from me i have went there on two different occasions both only one table inside was seating not sure why this it seems like a nice quite place to enjoy a meal. The staff there are delightful and always seem really nice,my food was ready in 15 mins and the lady even suggested the lunch specials which are good in price as they are in taste. i found the tofu in my rice to be just right which was a surprise because i have never ate fried rice with tofu for my liking. over all everything was great and will call this my place to order when i dont feel like cooking.
(5)Chris C.
1st try - both very happy. We ordered the Maki Roll Sampler, Spice Fried Rice, Thai Iced Tea, Duck Soup, Pot Stickers, Shrimp Dumplings, Crab Rangoon. We got free Pad Thai and Miso Soup for the order being large. What a great surprise. I think we ordered from this place due to the menu that was left on our doorstep. Normally I would throw these away, but we took a chance and are very happy with the outcome. Flavor: 8/10 Cookedness: 9/10 Temperature: 8/10 Presentation: 7-8/10 (delivery) Value for the dollar: 9-10/10 Im a little surprised about the not-so-hot reviews by others, given the number of them Im thinking this place has got to be hit or miss. Ill be sure to write a follow up review when possible. For now this place is aces in our book.
(4)Naomi K.
I gave this place another chance a few nights ago. First of all, the food *is* better than it was a year ago. The staff is nicer and the presentation was more artful. However, I cannot get over the fact that it smells like mold in there. They must have had a basement flooding, and the smell totally nauseated me.
(2)Christina K.
I like this place always have and always will.
(4)Jacqui G.
They may have a sign in front saying so, but they are NOT vegetarian-friendly. I ordered tofu pad see ew and found a piece of chicken in the dish, and they mixed my order of veggie potstickers with chicken instead. This was a two separate occasions; both of them carry-out.
(1)Liz K.
I used delivery through GrubHub and the Pad Thai we got here was disgusting--it tasted like they added some furniture polish to the mix. Blech! However, their sushi was decent and the Pad See Ew perfectly acceptable, but they called us four times to spell the name of our street, and then it took three hours to arrive. So not worth it.
(2)Lauren G.
I'm still a fan, but I think the quality is going down. I ordered take out last night and was surprised that my bill was $15 for an entree and appetizer. It's usually about $12. Then I noticed a new menu with "Fusion Thai Food" written on the front. I HATE when restaurants invest some money in new brochures, call their food fusion, and up the prices!
(4)Sara B.
I have had only take out from here....the guy was super nice to my sister and niece and the food was pretty good. Imiss Thai food after living in East Lakeview for eight years....my missing of the Thai food was much greater then I realized and this place made my little heart smile with thier tasty food...
(5)Kim W.
god, this place is an embarrassment to thai food.
(2)Danny P.
I've recently moved to Logan Square and thought I would really miss Thai Lagoon (which I do. Their crab rangoon is amaaaazing)... but I really like this thai place a lot. their food is really wonderful. their wait staff is very fast and courteous, and i really like the way it's decorated. one of the paintings on the wall looks like it was painted on there, and I think that's pretty cool. the bathrooms are really cute, too. there's a little table in the men's room and they put mints on it. not many bathrooms have mints in there. it's actually quite a really nice touch. their pad thai was top knotch... and we got some shrimp potstickers. steamed. very nice indeed. we will be back to this little place. it's great. not a dive at all. not sure what christine S is on about. i got my EYE on you Cristine S..... i'm putting you on notice. no but seriously, it's nice.
(4)Chris B.
Do not ever get them to deliver to your house. They do not know to read maps. I think they give their drivers directions on wet noodles. I live like 2 blocks from there. Yes, I am that lazy. I have ordered delivery from them twice and both times (It was 6 months in-between orders) it took them over 2 hours to find my house. Each time, after an hour, I called to tell them to forget it. Each time, a driver showed up my house with cold food asking for money. Each time, I was given the food for free and just tipped the driver, assuming it really wasn't his fault that the owners were dumb enough to hire him. It was the same guy both times. It was very sad. The second time, I was already eating a dinner I made at home. The food isn't bad. I don't trust sushi from places that seem on the edge of closing down all the time. It always has that vibe when I have been in there, that this could be the last day.
(2)Iris F.
This place is really cheap, lunch specials with lots of choices. A lunchbox special got me an egg roll, soup, entree and jicama for garnish. Also have sushi which is a bonus. Service was pleasant. I'll be back.
(4)Alexandra S.
This restaurant really doesn't look like much, but the food is delicious. My husband and I stop in at least once a month. Sometimes when we're feeling lazy we order delivery.. NOT A GOOD CALL. The delivered food has been sub-par every single time we've ordered it. I tend to believe that it hangs out under a heat lamp or something for a while in between cooking and delivering, because its always... a lot less tasty than it is when dining in. The service is friendly but a little forgetful, and the water tastes weird, but its not enough to keep me from going back!

I've been ordering regularly from The Spice since I moved to Logan Square five years ago. But no more. Apparently they've changed chefs, as my last three orders (summer-autumn 2009) have been nowhere near the old quality. I used to regularly order the Khao Soy - noodles in yellow curry sauce. The curry sauce had been delightly flavourful and aromatic; it came with flat soft noodles, crispy noodles, various pickles, and a side of intensely hot chili oil. Lately, however, this has changed; the curry sauce is flat and lifeless, the pickles are missing, the flat noodles are gone and only the crispy noodles remain, and there's no chili oil anywhere - if I hadn't had a bottle of Sriracha at home it would have had no heat whatsoever. And crispy noodles are fine as a garnish, but not as the bulk of the dish - it's like eating soggy potato chips. This was my favourite dish a few months ago, but I couldn't even finish it last time, it was so bland. The Pad Thai is topped with a mound of sad, wilted vegetables - overcooked broccoli, cauliflower, baby corn. The noodles themselves had no flavour except the hot sauce and lime juice I added on my own. I gave them three tries after noticing the change, but it's not getting any better. It's time to find another Khao Soy purveyor in Logan Square.

I had a delicious lunch combo for $6.25 - spicy basil with beef, tom yum soup with chicken, and 2 mini egg rolls. Definitely not the best or fastest place ever, but fresh ingredients, quality chicken, beef and vegetables, rice was good, and sauce and cooking were done above average, too. Most entrees are $7-$8, apps $4-5, so lunch combo is a good deal.

For the SECOND time, this restaurant has screwed me over. Two weeks ago, I ordered for delivery before going out for the night. It took well over an hour and a half and the food only arrived after two phone calls to them. I had minutes to wolf down my food. Tonight, with Pacific Cafe closed, I chanced it again and--boy, am I sorry! It has now been 2 HOURS AND 45 MINUTES and we have called 4 TIMES, pretty much every half hour, after an hour and a half had passed (we were told it would take 45min-1hr). We have been told three times now that we would have our food in 10 minutes. We were also lied to and told that the delivery driver had gotten a ticket but he was on his way (that was three phone calls ago.) I've spoken to the manager, and she promised a measly DISCOUNT, BUT WHAT GOOD IS THAT WITH NO ORDER AT ALL??? And now, as of this writing, another 30 minutes has passed after the last call with a promise of 10 minutes and still nothing. Seriously...I treated the staff and manager with calm and respect in each call and, yet, this is the treatment. Make that THREE HOURS. I wish I could give a half star, or none at all.

We finally found a good Thai restaurant, the only down side of this place is the delivery time. It took them about an hour in an half to deliver and to be honest I was really upset considering I had worked all day and I was dead tired, but I also wanted my food delivered with out any added human fluids as a bonus. So when I called I was pleasant and they were extremely apologetic both when I called and when they finally delivered! As far a the food it was great! We had the BBQ pork fried rice...which was great, we ordered a chicken pad Thai and my son loved it, my other son had an order of chicken satay and veggie egg rolls and he enjoyed them very much as well. The only complaint I would have on the food would be that the Tom ka Kai soup(is that how you spell it??) was so hot that I simply could not eat it. Next time I'm ordering it without jalapenos in it!
(4)andrea n.
I really love the food at this place! The sushi is decent. Dumplings r good. The shrimp pineapple curry is to die for! My fav item, and i have tried many of the dishes, Too bad delivery takes over an hour and a half. I ordered about 8 times now. First three times were fast, fresh, and delish. Lately, they forget the rice and sauces, deliver cold food, or misquote delivery time. I suggest going over the order while on the phone to get everything u want. Kinda annoying, but the damn pineapple curry is that good.
(4)Julie J.
I got delivery on a Sunday night. I ordered online from grubhub.com . The delivery was timely, and my curry and miso soup arrived hot, and my sushi arrived at, well, sushi temperature. My philly roll was tasty, and my curry was okay. I am saving the miso soup for lunch tomorrow. All in all a decent delivery choice, especially for the upcoming cold weather.
(3)Jacqui B.
This place delivers to my Logan Square abode, so I can't complain too much, but it really is hit or miss. I've had Pad Se Ew here that's absolutely terrible, and I've had it when it's just okay, but the dish you can really depend on is the Pineapple Curry--it's pretty damn good. Also, they have vegan pot stickers and vegan wontons that I enjoy immensely. Never had good Pad Thai here. I've tried it two or three times, and it made me never want to eat Pad Thai again.
(3)Sarah F.
I just went here last night for the first time and I thought the food was great. I went with a group, so I got to try a bunch of entrees. They have sushi as well as Thai food, which is not always a sign of a good restaurant to me, but they pulled it off. The crazy noodles was my favorite dish. The prices were very reasonable and the helping size was pretty big. The service was a bit slow at preparing the food.
(4)Tate B.
A short bike ride away, this no-frills Thai joint is a good choice for the nights that I don't feel like cooking. The tofu satay kept it real.
(4)Alex B.
I think this place tends to get a bad rap from people expecting too much from this. Let's get one thing straight, it's a straight-ahead take-out kindof place. Secondly, you'd have to be high to order sushi from this joint. We enjoy the pad bamee, thai fried rice, panaang curry, and pad see eiw, which are all consistently good, and probably the best option that this neck of logan/ avondale has to offer.
(4)K C.
We live 5 blocks from The Spice and used to order sushi from them at least twice a month. The past few times we've ordered from them it has taken close to 2 hours to get our food. This evening, after waiting 1 1/2 hours for our food, I called them to see where our food was. The lady answering the phone giggled and apologized and said it would be 10 more minutes. Since this is the third time in a row we've waited forever for our food and won't be ordering from them again. If you're hungry, don't bother ordering from The Spice.
(1)Delia H.
This place is pretty okay. It's really close to my boyfriend's house, so we have been here maybe four times because it's the closest thai food place, and we always seem to be in the mood for thai. I'd have to say most times we've been here I've gotten the pineapple/chicken fried rice and it has never been bad. It's not incredibly flavorful, but whatever. I wish I could give this place a 3.5, because 3 just makes it seem "okay" which, though it is, I've never had a bad experience here. I absolutely LOVE thai iced coffee, and every time I go here they make it way too creamy, and it's even too creamy when I tell them to put just a little bit of cream in it. The place is cute, and we always get the same waitress. Sometimes our food comes out at different times, but it's not a big deal. There are always a lot of left overs, and this thai food tastes pretty good cold and when you're hungry on a train ride home, it tastes great. I think I got the pad thai from here one time and I wasn't a huge fan. I remember wishing I had gotten the fried rice instead. This place is always, always practically empty, but it's small and quiet. Oh well, this is a great place for when we're in the mood for thai and don't feel like walking for more than 10 minutes. And I'm sure we'll be back soon.
(3)frank v.
Well if you don't mind eating alone in a crappy looking restaurant this place is for you. the food however is tasty and cheap!!!! I mean it can be a weird experience to say the least, Paris hilton's album blaring in the background, you eating alone and drowning a 24 pk of old milwaukee, hey its byob. I wouldnt eat here on a first date or second, hell not till she wont run away.
(3)jason t.
not my favorite thai place in the city, but definitely my favorite one in the neighborhood...by default, i guess, but it's still pretty good. they've recently added sushi to the menu. they served my octopus sashimi with shredded cucumber instead of rice. unexpected, but i liked it.
(4)Erin A.
I wanted to try someplace other than Charley Thai for delivery, so I gave The Spice a chance. Ironically, it was the blandest Thai food I've ever had in my life! Maybe the sushi is better?
(2)Andrea H.
So this is where I have been ordering my Thai since Pot Pan is closed for relocation. I would say ultimately this place is average, a solid 2.5 out of 5 stars. Nothing has been terrible, but nothing has been outstanding either. Every time I have ordered from here, I have gotten the chicken pad Thai which is never spectacular but never inedible. They have a fairly extensive menu, with ample vegetarian and vegan options, as well as sushi. I had sushi during the week and I would second M-shel S in saying that Spice's weekday food is better than the weekend food, when my housemate's sister in law ordered sushi and it was not inspiring (however, never order seafood on a Sunday anyway, not a good idea). The specialty maki are pretty tasty, and when I had it, the hamachi was quite good. I also have eaten the Thai beef salad, and while the beef was grey (and thus not seared), it was cooked properly and was tender and full of flavor. So right now, while Pot Pan is closed, this is the best Thai (and maybe some sushi, sometimes) delivery place you can find in Logan Square or Bucktown. The only thing bad I can really say is that I won't be ordering from here when Pot Pan reopens - their pad Thai is amazing.
(3)Joe V.
Ate here for the first time last night. While I admit it is nothing to write home about, it is by far the best Thai food I've found in Logan Square thus far. Our food was fresh and yummy. Service was vey nice. It's a BYOB, so next time I go I'll bring something to drink. Prices are beyond affordable. Will go back.
(3)Jeremiah S.
I've only ever ordered delivery from here, but the quality is always above average. Fairly diverse menu and nearly everything I've gotten has been tasty. I'm partial to the panang curry, spicy basil, the spice garden, and massaman curry.
(4)Craig B.
Sure it isn't anything to write home about, but solid and reliable Thai food in a Polish/Hispanic stretch of Milwaukee that hasn't even smelled the whiff of gentrification downstream? Hell yeah.
(4)Chicago g.
Food is great. Prices are very reasonable. By far, the best shrimp lard nar I've had.
(5)Natalie S.
I was a fan, previously. Not great food, but solid and tasty for the hood. Tonight, everything was different. Panang curry, normally creamy and lovely, was thin and miserable. As if they forgot the coconut milk! Ordered mild, it came spicy. No steamed rice included. Golden triangles, usually bursting with filling, were totally flat with hardly any. And the noodle soup with duck? Hardly any broth and the noodles were undercooked. Miserable. Being a long-time customer, I called with my concerns-- and was hung up on. Forget them.
(1)Rob Z.
Good Sushi, Okey tasting Thai meals... BUT HORRIBLE SERVICE! This review is based THREE different times now that I've been annoyed. I once went with a large party and the place was practically empty yet they still managed to screw up the order and some people didn't get their entrees since the order ticket wasn't even delivered to their kitchen!. The second time I had to repeatedly ask for more water while dining in and when I started to get annoyed, I got this attitude from the waitress as to say "how dare you!" and I had no right to be annoyed. I have never been to this location on a night where they are anywhere close to being busy in their dining area so I don't understand it. And now, ever since incorporating their Sushi happy hour (Sun-Thu 5:00-800PM), I arrive on a Sunday at 7:20PM thinking I had time to relax and have a nice dinner in, I get told that it is no longer being done on Sunday even though EVERY SIGN still said Sun-Thu. The courteous thing would be to smile and honor it since it would be false advertisement not to, right? WRONG! I get told no twice and by the time they went to back for God knows what and I presume, ask if they can honour it, I became fed up and knew I would not be able to have a good dine-in experience. I guess either you like being treated this way or move on and that is what I will be doing from now on, taking my business elsewhere. There are far better choices for Thai food along the area (Thai Lagoon & Thai Eatery on Western, Anong on California) and countless places to get better sushi (Thai Lagoon again, Hachi's Kitchen on California, Bentonara on Belmont). I made the exception the first couple times since the food was good but I'm done now. Too bad, I went here quite a few times too.
(1)Jennifer C.
Holy moly this was the worst food I've ever eaten. Bland, bland, bland. I had to drown it in Siraccha just to force it down. And I don't even like Siraccha. We got delivery and it took OVER AN HOUR and my friend literally lived a block away. I'd eat my own poo before eating here ever again.
(1)Chelsea S.
I often get panang noodle cravings, and this is where I get my fix. Don't be afraid to try the sushi here, it's fresh and tasty! This is a good place for carry out, the dining room is not that inviting.
(4)Andrew P.
I went here when it first opened and I remember it being serviceable Thai...but throw the "service" idea out the window if you want delivery. On an (admittedly) rainy night, we were assured our order would be ready in an hour, only to call an hour later and learn that our order had been sweating under a heat lamp, and not wih the driver who was out doing deliveries! After being assured that it would be there in "oh, about a half hour" we gave up and scrounged our cupboard for food. Unfortunately, cannot review the food since it never came...but I guess that should give it one star, no?
(1)Patrick C.
hands down, some of the worst maki ever. absolutely horrible. never going back. i almost returned the food after the first bite. not for a refund, but to make them feel bad for selling me something so disgusting. i've had better sushi at jewel-osco.
(1)Elisa E.
We tried to dine at Spice Thai on an unseasonably warm October night. There was no air-conditioning, and a single fan was being used to "cool" the entire dining room. That might explain in part why there was only one person eating there on a Saturday evening. We decided to order carry-out, since dining in was not going to be pleasant. About half of the carry-out menu was crossed out, not an encouraging sign. We ordered and waited in the steamy dining area, which was lit like a hospital operating room. A loud 70s oldies station was being played as background music, which just increased my desire to get the hell out of there. We finally got our food, and escaped this culinary purgatory. The hot-and-sour soup, the vegetable eggrolls, crazy noodles--all were delicious. These folks should operate out of a smaller space and give up on running a sit-down restaurant, at least until they get a clue.
(2)Jenny I.
This is a good Thai place, for Logan Square. One of my favorite items I've had in chicago is a side of jasmine rice and a large Tom Ka Kai (cocount soup). They have by far the best in the city...so milky and thick you can feel your ass getting bigger as you eat it. Mmmm!
(4)Jessica C.
We've been eating at the Spice for a few years now, and the food rarely fails to please. My bf almost always gets the pineapple curry, and now that they offer sushi, that's all I ever get. The prices are great, the sushi while not that creative is super fresh, even when delivered with hot curry. The crab rangoon is good too. The only down side is when they say delivery will be an hour, it definitely will be an hour, and sometimes a little longer.
(4)Mike H.
My freind, Carmen SanDiego (see photo below), tricked me into ordering from here one night instead of our usual neighborhood take-out Thai spot (which honestly isn't that great either), but for real this place is the NAST. The food is so bland and tasteless chewing is basically pointless.
(1)Kelli H.
"The Spice" is a good Thai restaurant in the Logan Square area that seems to be struggling. They don't have the best location but they seem to be trying to make the best out of what they have. It seems like they do a lot of take out business. The decor isn't bad and their food is yummy. I especially like their panang noodle (we call them magic noodles). They added sushi a few months ago... not so sure that was the best idea. The restaurant is worth trying if you are in the area.
(4)Eric T.
Horrible horrible HORRIBLE customer service, and , well, I used to work in the resturant industry, so I know how mistakes can happen. But I was basically LIED to by the manager multiple times one night on a delivery order, and they refused to admit that I did not recieve part of my order after a TWO HOUR wait. Then, they said they would send my food to me, after much coercion, and the food never showed up, and they closed for the night, basically giving me an f-you. So yeah, I will never never order from there again. And I'm not the type of person who draws lines in the sand. There's only one other restuarant in Chicago I've ever said "I'll never eat there again" and that's because I got food poisoning. :)
(1)Julia B.
I love spicy food and I sometimes want to eat Thai food which made this place a great spot to hit! The spicer the better, and this place knows how to spice up every dish!

The non-cook bachelor brother-in-law introduced me to this treat right around the corner from his place. The small restaurant had one table occupied when we arrived for a late afternoon dinner. The Pad Thai with chicken was delicious. The portion size was generous. The noodles were the smallest I've ever had for this particular Thai dish. The Thai iced coffee turned out to be the best I've ever had. Why 4 instead of 5 stars? The restaurant needs either ventilation or air conditioning. A ceiling fan would have probably done the trick. I wasn't eating anything spicy and found myself too warm and sweating. The service was a tad slow, but I wasn't in a rush. It turned out to be nice early dinner around 5 in the afternoon on a Sunday.

Well, the food here is edible. Just incredibly bland. We ordered online through their website which gives you 15% off on your first order, and then picked it up since we live so close and didn't feel like paying extra for delivery. The restaurant actually looked much nicer inside than I expected it to be, but was pretty empty. We ordered crab rangoon, a cucumber salad, crunchy noodles with tofu, and pineapple fried rice with tofu. The crab rangoon were decent, and the cucumber salad was ok too if a little watery. The entrees were where things went downhill. I had to add lots of soy sauce and sriracha to my noodles to get some flavor because it was just so, so plain tasting. The pineapple fried rice was also really bland and had pretty much non-existent pineapple. To top it off, it felt a little expensive for what we got considering I normally can get 2-3 meals out of a Thai entree from other restaurants and the serving size of the noodles gave me about 1.5. With other options like Trike nearby, we won't be ordering from here again.

Order from here if you want: - your food to be 45 minutes late. - your sushi to be warm and inedible. - part of your order left off and not remedied when you bring it up to the delivery person. - no chopsticks, napkins, soy sauce, or anything else that usually accompanies this type of food. I'm completely dissatisfied with this order. I would have rather spent more money or waited longer for food that is actually good.

The Spice has a variety of Thai dishes, Nigiri & Maki sushi, plus a spattering of Chinese food. Their rolls are put together a bit haphazardly. The flavor is there but they aren't rolled tight enough and every one I had fell apart upon picking it up. I tried their Sweet Potato Roll ($4.99), Shiitake Roll ($3.99), Crunchy Boston Roll ($6.99) and the Super White Tuna Roll ($3.99) - I must say the prices are quite nice for their makis. In terms of their non sushi food, I've tried the Sesame Chicken ($7.50) which is not your typical sesame chicken dish. It is not deep fried and it's honestly not that amazing which barely any chicken in the dish. The Pad See Eiw ($7.50) is one of their Thai options which was pretty tasty but definitely not the best I've ever had. It was an interesting twist on the dish having carrots in it. Their crab rangoon for $4.95 is one of the best items I've had at The Spice. Pro-Tip - Order on their website for 15% off your first order.

They recently started an All You Can East Sushi menu, which had an amazing variety and selection. Every roll we tried was delicious and freshly prepared at the bar. Highlights were the Sweet Potato Roll, Smokey Bear Roll, and Angel Eyes Roll. The service was absolutely fantastic and the new decor made for a great dinner. Go and enjoy!

Unlike some of the other reviews I've had nothing but delicious food and pleasant service here. I've lived around the corner for two years but only tried them for the first time last Sunday, since then I've been there twice more. To say the least I like their food. I haven't tried anything off their Japanese menu, so I can't judge that portion. The Thai dishes, however, are very satisfying. I've had the duck curry, pineapple curry, curry fried rice and cucumber salad. The duck itself wasn't great but the curry was. Their Thai iced tea is awesome, but their iced coffee is just that: iced coffee, it is not Thai iced coffee. I now know where to get a decent iced coffee now, though.

Had a major craving for Thai food and sushi and was too lazy to leave the apartment. Found The Spice on GrubHub and was so happy that I could have both. I ordered a red curry, pad thai, a salmon roll, and a soda, all for $24. The food arrived as scheduled and was pretty tasty. Definitely hit the spot and even had enough for a few more meals. Love the prices!

I dont know if I should give this place 3 or 4 starts. Got the pineapple fired rice with shrimp and some spicy kung-whatever chicken and crab rangoons. The rangoons were actually really good and i thought the fried rice was good too but my friend didnt want to eat the shrimp cause he said it smelled bad. I ate it and didnt think anything was that bad with it. I dont really remember eating the other kung pao chicken but only thing was it was kinda dry.. idk gave it 4 stars cause you cant base a restaurant on those things. If i order from here again, will obvi update my review.
(4)Natalia U.
Delivery took close to 1.5 hrs...much longer than stated. Pad thai was below average. Rama chicken had a variety of veggies as opposed to the usual steamed broccoli, and the peanut sauce was kind of watery/bland.

I love Thai Food...All day everyday...Unfortunately, none of my future thai food business will be going to The Spice. Tom Ka - small portion, watered down, 3 shrimps total = Huge disappointment Panang Curry - worst I've had...ever. No spice to it after requesting it to be spicy. Very little of anything including the beef requested. For $8 I would expect some kind of substance but this was lacking so so bad. Custard - tiny!! as big as my thumb and not worth $2 Sticky Mango Rice - rice was hard and mangos were sour. They had to call me to tell me one order couldn't be made and getting them to adjust my final price was messy. After traveling to Thailand I do have a level of expectation from my Thai cuisine. This drops below any kind of tolerance. The commitment to quality of food is not seen in their dishes, on the night I ordered.... After being called and told I have to reorder a replacement for one of my Sticky Mango Rice dishes, the lady was sweet and patient enough. So customer service is decent. With that said, good luck if you are willing to gamble. PS. Thai Ice tea was yummy even if though their was more ice than beverage.

I've been a loyal customer here for years now and the food had always been really good. I even like the sushi. Curries are great and basil fried rice with chicken or basil chicken with rice are all always solid. Crazy noodle is great and crazy! We ordered take out the other night (rama noodle and pad thai) and everything was awful. It was so bad that I'm taking the time to update my review from 4 to 2 stars. I hope it was a fluke but my wife says she wasn't happy last time she ate something here a few weeks ago. I'd like to give them another chance because it's always been good, but I might just go to Friendship next time....
(2)Bri A.
We ordered three sushi rolls (dragon and two spicy scallop) and a mango bubble tea for delivery. The rolls were okay, but kind of bland. The miso soup that came with was decent and I liked the bubble tea. We also had a free order of crab rangoons which were meh. There were only three small ones and most orders have at least four or five, especially if they're tiny. As usual, most fusion places don't do sushi very well! If you have a sushi hankering and don't want to spend much, this place is worth a try.

I get delivery from here all the time. So good. And quick. Never have had a bad experience. Eating there is great too because it's byob.
(5)Krystyna K.
Best Thai food I've ever had. I always get the Chicken Cashew wherever I go, and this place is by far the best. The decor isn't very inviting, but they make up for it in taste and portion sizes.
(5)Porscha M.
I ordered delivery on grub hub. Shortly after placing my order I received a phone call saying they were out of teriyaki salmon. They offered me a smoked salmon instead. This was fine however when I received my order I noticed that not only did they not include the miso soup that came with my dragon roll they also did not give me shrimp tempura appetizer instead they gave me shrimp tempura Maki. I called them and explain the mix up and they said they would send out the shrimp tempura appetizer. I did not get this appetizer until an hour after my other food has arrived. Though they were polite, it took 3 hours total from ordering to recieving my order. This was completely unacceptable , and I never received the miso soup. I will never order from them again. When I did taste my food I noticed that the texture was not actual tempura batter and had more of a consistency of fried fish batter, the fish itself look old and dried out. However their spring rolls were pretty good. This had to be the saltiest salmon I've ever had and I found a hair stuck in my shrimp tempura batter, this was disgusting. I tried to add a picture but my camera isn't very good.

I've lived in the Logan/Avondale area for about 6 years and this was one of the first neighborhood places I tried. It's still as good today as it was day one, if not better. Some of my favs are the monster roll, sweet potato roll, the spicy basil, and any of the curries ....not to mention the BEST Thai iced tea!!! I keep trying the tea at other places, but I'm always left disappointed. Definitely worth a try!
(5)Christina M.
I love this place. They have an amazing Lunch menu. I come for the bubble tea, Seaweed Salad, Shrimp Pad Thai and Thai Fried Rice. It's all really good. They also plate the food very nicely. BYOB.
(4)Laura M.
Above average thai food. The crab rangoon wasn't great. The basil chicken was good and so was the red curry. I had a soup that I'd never tried before: Kow Soi, with tofu. It came with plenty of noodles and tofu and was tasty. The food was delivered and was warmish by the time we got it. The best part about the food was the price. We got three entrees and crab rangoon for under $30. It was the perfect amount of food for three people.
(4)Natalia P.
This place rules. Best thai in logan square. Super friendly staff. Lunch special is the bomb. Atmosphere is just like Thailand. If your date doesnt like it here, then you are dating the wrong person.

Lately this place has been a total waste of time and money. Two times now I've placed an order and didn't receive it. I had to call the business and speak to the same lady four times to get my money back. I was still a loyal customer. I ordered two miso soups and instead of giving me two, they gave me one soup split into two containers. Pretty lame. Also their food quality has really gone down. The curry dishes have almost no flavor in the sauces, and their non curry entrees have almost no variety in the veggies. I recommend Trike and Begin instead. Though they aren't high quality Thai food either, at least they aren't trash like this place.

I am a fan of the food. The ambiance leaves a little to be desired. It is a great take out place, especially on a Friday night when you just don't want to cook. I have been going here for years. The environment has improved (which is saying a lot, since it is still a bit drab) It has a TV that is sometimes turned to reality TV shows (?) and other times, the TV has been on (no sound) and pop music is playing. Please, please, play some authentic Thai music low or, if not that, some ambient music. Not pop music from a satellite radio station. At least the fish tank is gone. Still, I love the food and will continue to get take out regularly! The employees are friendly and nice. It's fine to go with a good friend and a couple cold beers if you are more into the food and conversation. Don't go for a date night.
(3)Mary A.
EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. Why isn't zero stars an option?? I'll be brief - came looking for decent and inexpensive sushi (mistake number 1). We had to wear our winter coats because the restaurant was freezing. We were alone there, but the service still took an eternity. The sushi rice was terrible, hard as a rock, and clearly old. The cherry on top, two words: FOOD POISONING. Save yourselves, and avoid at all costs!!
(1)Wayne P.
Ordered pickup this evening. The food is strangely cheap. The staff was extremely gracious and the food was great. I'm a long-time Thai Lagoon fan, and I think I almost liked Spice Thai's food even more.
(4)Linda A.
I've never ate there, yes yes as ppl say, the place don't seem that inviting, I hope they change that without hicking the price, it would be nice to have a nice thai place to dine on milwaukee ave but the food is great, I do take out or delivery...just one time they gave me the wrong plate, I order the pad see eiw and got pad Thai (I think that's the name not really sure) I called them n told them nicely that they had made a mistake and the lady on the phone told me she would send me the right order, arrived warm and quick, preggo woman me, with pad see iew craving = a really happy customer.
(5)Danielle B.
Our family loves this place!! Great, fresh food our favorite is the pad see ewe (spelling is most likely wrong). True. The atmosphere needs improvement, but I'm sure that would happen if more people ate there! Which they most definitely should.
(5)Shannyn A.
For the neighborhood I love coming here (especially since there isn't much else to choose from). The food is solid and the service for dine in or carry out is quick. I love their seaweed salad, sushi and green curry. If you need a decent place in this neighborhood, go here.
(4)Di D.
My family and I come here often since its close to the house and we like that they offer both Thai food and sushi. The food is always great and although the sushi selections is small, we usually just order 1 or 2 rolls anyway to to with our fried rice and pad see ewe. The service here is always friendly and we are always greeted with a smile. As a previous poster stated, it's almost always empty when we eat here but I do see alot of people in for take out. Ive been to many, many Thai places in this city and I would rate this one as one of my favorites. Not a fancy place at all but great food, great prices, and the service is always great so that always keeps up coming again and again.

You know how usually the first time you taste something becomes the standard by which you judge all other examples of that food? The Spice broke through the shimmering walls of history and allegorical flavor memories by becoming the standard-bearer of what Tom Kha Kai soup should taste like. Creamy, spicy, hot, lemon-grassy. Had I not been sharing, I'd have gone face-down in this mixture of right and wrong, do or die. The Panang was pretty standard, a good thickness, very up-the-nose spicy, and came with wide flat fried noodles instead of rice, which was a nice change. The veggies were crisper than I'm used to, which probably made the whole concoction healthier, but I'm used to slightly soggy broccoli that soaks up a tiny tree-head full of sauce on its way out and brings it to my face. Their Pad Thai used thinner noodles than I'm used to, but it helps break up the cloying flavor of the dish a little better, allowing a person to be satisfied with less. Plus the massive portion helped that epic marathon of eating. The Spicy Basil Noodle was pretty uninspired and ended up lingering in the fridge until expiration after a few nibble attempts. The crab rangoon was just sad. It was if someone was making pierogis, had left over wrappers, stuffed some rancid cream cheese inside and overcooked them. Kudos for the Panang, Pad Thai and spectacular Tom kha, but just skip the rangoon and drunken noodles.

This is our go to Thai & Sushi place, and not just cause its only 5 min away from us. They've been around so long but I only recently discovered them when I moved into the neighborhood. Not the best in ambiance but they have great food at a great price! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the environment. They have some decor but in all the ambiance is cold. I would never want to go on a romantic date there (which is a shame).

This place is great quality, quick delivery thai/sushi. Their tom kha soup is the perfect thing to arrive at your door on a snowy Chicago evening. A staple, and an occasional lifesaver. Bringing a friend home from the hospital after a procedure, it was our first stop to pick up comfort food to take home. It's perfect for ordering food for a party, and a great spot to have a big fun dinner. It's often very uncrowded (probably because they do such a brisk delivery business, and who likes leaving home in February in Chicago?), so we've always gotten a table. Simple, delicious, affordable asian food.

I've been coming here for years... It went through changes in ownership.... At one point before sushi bar, it was a hit or miss, I even boycotted the place for a bit... Started going back and it's been more reliable and consistent... My favorite dish is the panang curry... Yummy

Wow! You'd think that there were two different restaurants with this name, in regards to the reviews being all over the place. Sad to read all the negative reviews. :( As one sage reviewer wrote, when you have a Gold Standard restaurant that you imprint upon, it's pretty tough for a new place to equal that remembered level of excellent food. My "Gold Standard" is/was Opart Thai on Western Avenue. During the 15 years I lived on Eastwood, my husband and I would eat there 2-3 times per week. Now, however, we live in Logan Square and it's no longer convenient to go to Opart Thai. So, using my "Places" app on my Samsung phone, I searched for Thai places in Logan Square and this place turned up, along with several others. The "several others" shall NOT be named! They were horrid places with food so bad that one taste of the gummy, pasty meals ended with them tossed into the trash! We thought, "Can't Logan Square DO Thai?" This delightful place, located in a working class neighborhood delivers: both literally and figuratively! We've eaten here over 20 times since discovering it and are happily working our way through the menu. Friends, once taken here, are converted and snag a menu to avail of the delivery service. My Litmus Paper test of a Thai restaurant worthy of returning to are Pad Thai and Shumai; if you can screw those two simple things up, we NEVER return! Their Steamed Shumai is delicate, NOT doughy, and gobbled up within 2 minutes of serving. The Chicken Satay is the BEST we've EVER had...the chicken is actually seasoned so well, you need to debate dipping it in the peanut sauce, which is spot on. Pad Thai is amazing and the real deal breaker for us is their Duck Curry!!! OMG, duck used to be such a standard in Asian cooking; you hardly see it offered any longer. Stated simply: 5 stars for the duck curry, alone! When it's just my husband or one friend with me, we love to eat in the "box" seats in the front window...just because it's fun! When we have larger groups, the main floor is the option. The staff is friendly, courteous, and sweet; they never chase you out even when you've been gabbing for hours. The only other sad comment I have is that we've NEVER seen any other people eating in the place!!!! It's ALL take-out when we've gone there. Now, maybe it's because we go from Monday through Thursday and the weekend has more eat-in folks, but we have the place all to ourselves during the week. This wonderful place has now become our Logan Square Opart Thai place to go, and that's the HIGHEST compliment I can give a Thai restaurant! :)

Something annoying always comes up when I've tried to order here. The online system hasn't worked the last several times we tried to order which is kind of a turn-off when there's a mild language barrier to order by phone. Pickup times varied from being ready super quick to a little slow. The food is generally pretty alright in a you get what you pay for kind of way. As close to my last apartment as the Spice Thai was I kept hoping the place would step up and become a great "go to" option instead of a "it's the closest place that isn't a taco joint" option.
(2)Marisol A.
Have had lunch and carry out several times and never have been disappointed. Usually get the pad see ewe and others get the pad thai. Everyone has always liked it. We usually don't dine in because its usually really cold in there.
(5)Karolina H.
Great place! Love the food. Me and my friends go there every time we get hungry for Thai food. Very nice people, plus it's BYOB :)
(5)Amy A.
We had food delivered for the first time tonight. Overall we were disappointed. I love Thai food and this just missed the mark. Panang curry: Just ok. The flavors were good, but the consistency was poor. The sauce was thin and watery. Panang curry should have lots of green and red peppers, this was full of green beans and peas. There was 1 tiny piece of red pepper in the entire dish. Cucumber salad: Cucumbers soaked in vinegar. Very plain and no flavor. Crab Rangoon: Arrived cold with a soft mushy outer shell. Steamed dumplings: Also arrived cold. I had to heat them up in the microwave before eating them. Very bland.

It's a dirty crime this place is getting three stars on Yelp. I have been to Spice and ordered Take-out from here many an occasion and been very happy each and every time. The restaurant itself is a little spooky-- the neighborhood around it kinda sucks and there is frequently absolutely no one dining in there, but the cute little mini chili pepper garden makes up for that. The curry is good but not my favorite, your best bet is the sushi, soups (WOW), and the crazy noodles. And as many before me have reported, the crab rangoon is like Woah. Ordering online is fine, as long as you don't have any special instructions (twice these have not been paid attention to, oh well. I can pick the chicken out of the soup), and the delivery is very timely and friendly. I never think twice about ordering here. Hooray for great Thai in the hood!
(5)Victoria J.
Don't do it. I hadn't been to this place for two years and now I remember why. I ordered the Pad Thai lunch special for carryout, stupidly thinking they'd perhaps improved over the years. I mean, they were still in business somehow, I figured maybe they'd made some strides. Nope. Still terrible. It seems like it'd be pretty hard to screw up Pad Thai, but they managed to do it. It was so salty and oily as to almost be inedible. The crab rangoon tasted sour, and the least disgusting part of the meal, the soup, was basically just flavorless vegetable water. Granted, the lunch special is disconcerting cheap and they're probably using yesterday's leftovers. But still, I can think of a million Thai places with infinitely better yesterday's leftovers than this. Honestly, if I can impart any advice on this idiot world, it's this: Pass this place up.
(1)Jake B.
Decent sushi, BYOB which is awesome... HOWEVER- I'm pretty sure these guys comprimised my credit card. A day or two after eating here, I saw a strange 2 dollar charge on my bank statement (after the charge including tip had already hit my bank). The next day I heard from the bank saying my card had been comprimised. I don't know for sure it was this establishment that did it, but it's a bit strange to see a random 2 dollar charge hit your card and then hear from your bank with bad news. If I go back, I'll be paying with cash.

We ordered from The Spice last night, and I thought the food was just okay. We started with the crab rangoon. It was fine, but tasted more like cream cheese than anything else. I got just the slightest hint of crab buried in it. just a bit more crab (or krab) would have made this appetizer pretty darn tasty. My wife ordered the shrimp tempura roll. She has been pregnant for 7 1/2 months, and there were no ingredients in it she couldn't have which made her extremely happy. She scarfed it down before I got the chance to try it, so it was either really good or she had to soothe her sushi craving as quickly as possible. I ordered the Sesame Chicken, and the flavor was really good. I expected the chicken to be breaded and deep-fried, which it wasn't, but I appreciated that as I'm trying to be a tad more cognizant of what I stuff down my gullet, and unbreaded not deep-fried chicken seems a bit healthier than the other. The only problem is that the chicken in it was really really dry. I chalk it up more to ordering right at the end of their night than I do anything else, but it will be interesting to see if the same thing happens when I order again.
(3)Alpha P.
Yesterday we ordered Shrimp spicy noodles and veggie curry. Broth enters were tasty. Fast delivery. That's everything I needed.
(5)Trixie D.
I used to be a regular patron of this establishment because there are not many places that have yaki soba that deliver to my apartment. Unfortunately, I will not be ordering from here again. Today marks the 3rd time that I have placed an order online, waited over an hour for my food to arrive, and ultimately, never even receive my food. For some reason, the restaurant accepts online orders, but apparently they do not check them/receive them. After waiting over an hour for my food, I called to check the status of the order and found out that they did not receive it. I let the employee know that I have the confirmation email with the order number to look it up, but she was not successful. I can understand this happening occasionally, but 3 times is 2 too many times for me. As far as the food, I would consider it average: nothing that really impresses me. It is also worth noting that several times in the past my husband has ordered Panang curry with chicken and it has arrived with tofu instead.
(1)Craig M.
Best Thai food in the neighborhood, IMO. However, it's certainly not by any means outstanding as far as thai food goes. Usually, the service is pretty good. Last night we had a different server than normal. She was kind of a bitch. Can I say that here? Well she was. However, I believe this service to be an abnormality and will continue to frequent this establishment. Also, some reccomendations: For seafood, try the Thai Hot Pot. For curry, I had Salmon Panang last night. It was delicious and ONE A'SPICY A'MEATBALL!

Okay, so there are certain places that you order delivery and when you get it it's so damn good that you don't ever want to stare the kitchen in the eye and see from where your food hails... This was one of them. We order delivery from this place frequently. Addictedly, some might say. Okay, so we suffer from chronic Spice Deliveratosis. Well, one day we decided to make the leap so we grabbed a bottle of wine (for it's incredible BYOBness) and headed in the general direction of Diversey and Milwaukee... Well, I lie, we went to 2886 N Milwaukee, home of The Spice. Not just any spice, I tell you. THE Spice. Oh man, was I ever scared looking at the outside. I thought this place was about to become another one of those places about which I fondly reminisce of delicious deliveries and full-belly smiles past. Walking in, it was not EXACTLY what I expected. It lies somewhere in between the dodgey late-night place that you never want to admit you patronize (even if it is only after the night in which you consume 10+ drinks) and the cozy mom-and-pop diner in the neighborhood. The musty-smelling air conditioner brought back fond memories of summers in the lifeguard shack and their 2-fer-1 deal reminded me of college. Ah, college... The days of searching for the best price-to-rodent ratio. How I miss those days... but I digress. So, yeah, their Tom Kha is even better in the restaurant. It's warm and fresh and utterly incredible. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better. Must be the lack of plastic in it when it's fresh... Just a thought. Their panang curry is pretty much the most bad ass dish, well, ever. I also recommend their mango sticky rice. It pretty much rocks the Kasbah. The service is spotty, but I don't care. I love the food that much. Now, if we could only figure out who the creepy royal-looking dude is in the pic on the wall. If anyone knows, not only would I feel really smart, but also totally redeemed during my next visit if I whipped out that little nugget of wisdom... or a random factoid... whatever you want to call it. Now... What to do for lunch...
(5)bria s.
This place is great because when they deliver to my 4th floor walk-up apartment the guy comes all the way up and is still smiling. I've never actually been to the restaurant, but as far as thai delivery goes, its great!
(5)Sara R.
I love the food and the atmosphere here. It's very casual and bright (definitely wouldn't describe it as "romantic"). The food is fresh and beautifully presented, as well as very reasonably priced. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the service is a little spotty. Everyone I've been served by has been friendly and accurate with our orders - but incredibly slow. Not the place for a quick bite - just a yummy one.
(4)George A.
The green curry was very good as was the crab rangoon. The Spice chicken wings were so-so. The Tom yum soup was ok. I look forward to dining in again.
(3)Doro R.
I went here alone on a Sunday night around 730pm. There was NO ONE sitting in the dining room but a STEADY stream of people picking up to-go food. I mean, seriously, there was a train of people. I ate two maki rolls. They took a long time... but then again they were really really busy with customers that were not currently occupying tables- so it's hard to gauge if they were slow or busy. I also ordered a curry dish. My sushi was GREAT. I'm pretty picky and I was happy. The sweet soy sauce is really good and the rolls were tight and fresh like they should be. I ordered Mussaman curry also. It tasted great although not as spicy as I am used to. I am a VERY picky meat eater and the chicken was good until I got a bite of only fatty gristle. Things like that make me want to go vegetarian. Gross. They get 4 stars because 1) service was really great 2) no corkage fee BYOB 3) great sushi with a unique and tasty garnish Pricing is consistent with other Thai places. Less than $10 for dishes and $5-8 for most sushi rolls.
(4)Elite T.
I've dined in and had takeout from this place, and weirdly, the food is infinitely better when you dine there. The takeout has the excess-steam-in-the-container dilemma and often ruins the food. The sushi is really nothing special, but the noodles definitely are, especially the yaki soba (with extra sauce, they've started to use less). The cooks really take care in their plating to turn out attractive dishes, even though a dish might only be $6, and the staff are very sweet. I'm surprised that I don't see more people eating here, it's a great place for Thai in the neighborhood.

I've been curious about The Spice Thai for a while, but I usually forget about it when it comes to dinner crunch time with the fiance. The other night, however, we were checking out the Milwaukee Arts Festival and walked by and thought, hey, we've never been, let's do it! And the sign proclaiming Vegetarians Welcome! made me feel well, welcome! It wasn't very crowded, the room was fairly sparse, but it felt comfortable enough. There was a lot to choose from on the menu. In addition to the regular thai grub, they had sushi! I'm almost always in the mood for vegetarian sushi, so I was pleased to see that there were more options than many places. My fiance is a panang nut, so he was pleased that there was panang. I got an oshinko roll and an emerald roll (with spinach and asparagus yum-ness). He got...the panang, with tofu. I looked over and saw the sushi chef doing his thing and was filled with pleasure that my sushi was being prepared as we sat there. Then my fella's food came out, so I tried a chunk of the tofu. The sauce was a little soupy, but there was a nice spice to it. But, I sat waiting for my maki to come out... Then the tables around us, who were seated after us started getting their orders...and my fella was just about done with his panang. Eventually our waitress noticed the look of sadness in my eyes when she brought out a nice plate of sushi for...someone else! I had been totally forgotten. Apologies ensued and eventually I got my rolls. I'm just glad I wasn't starving or crabby, or this would've been a problem. As it stands, I was satisfied and I'll go back.

I love this place! It helps that it's less than a block away. They have very fresh food. I love the pad thai. It's affordable and delicious.

Based on Yelp alone, I probably wouldn't have tried this place on my own but my friend orders from them all the time and has had good luck, so Spice it was for our girls night in. I ordered two rolls: spicy scallop and summer. The spicy scallop featured "whole" pieces of scallop, not the minced version you get at lots of places. What's the "right" way? I have no clue but I do enjoy tasting the scallop and not just the mayo (gross). The summer roll was what you would expect (tuna, yellowtail, jalapeno, avocado, cilantro, chilli oil) and quite tasty. Overall, my "Regular Jane" taste in maki was satisfied. And they threw in a free order of edamame. And it was all delivered to her Logan Square abode in well under an hour. If you're in the area, which historically is a "sushi desert," why not give it a try?

I'm super happy with my delivery order! I ordered steamed pot stickers and pad se ew (a little spicy). The woman who took the order was pleasant, she repeated everything to make sure it was correct, and my order was here in about 30 minutes. The delivery guy was super nice and didn't let the front gate slam (something that ALL delivery guys do and it drives me nuts). The pot stickers were perfectly steamed- slightly sticky, but not glob bed together and not too watery. the filling was nice and light and the sauce wasn't overly salty. The pad se ew is fantastic and just how I ordered it. I appreciated that they actually made it a little spicy, as it's not usually a dish with spice. There was a good amount of broccoli, carrots, and some greens. The chicken tasted great, it was cut thinly, and there were no rubbery or gristly bits. If I had to find a flaw, the noodles could have been a bit bigger, but even though they were in smaller pieces, they were plentiful and yummy! The pad se ew sauce was very rich and coated the entire dish. We usually order from Anong or Thai Lagoon, but I went out on a limb to try something new and I'm so glad I did! I'd definitely order from here again.

I ordered the Basil Fried Rice, Avocado Roll, and Orange. None of these items tasted right! The fried rice had so much oil that I had to use 2 napkins to get the oil out (enough oil was dripping out of the napkin -- enough to fry an egg in a pan). The Avocado Roll was not fresh. The Orange Chicken was mostly breading, not much meat inside. I would not recommend nor try this place again.

I'm with some people on why the heck this place gets some negative reviews. Every time I've ordered from this yummy place I've been super happy. Trust me. I am usually very careful where I order my sushi from--but this place has a great clean, delicious sushi bar inside the restaurant. I recommend the 'Logan Square' roll. It has tuna, avocado, asparagus, and cream cheese. It is delightful. When I call all the lovely ladies are very friendly & my order is at my house in less than an hour. For these cheap prices--nowadays people can eat like kings!

I went to Chicago to visit a friend. She took me to this restaurant. We ordered three dishes (spicy basil, pad thai, tom yum). We asked the cheif to make the food Thai hot!!!! The food came out fast and taste very good.

Oh, where to start? i have been frequenting this place for a few years. Eating there is like entering the Twilight Zone. It's just plain weird. But oddly, it fulfills something within my adventure-loving, adrenaline-seeking soul. For the sake of brevity, let me highlight some of my most memorable experiences. My neighbor J and I went here often over the summer because they had a great sushi special menu from 5-8 every evening. One evening, as we began to place our order, we were informed that they were no longer offering specials. I referenced the sign on the window which read "sushi specials 5-8 pm", and was given a big smile and a reply of "yes, but no longer!". I thought that restaurants (and most businesses for that matter) honored their advertising, especially when it is ten feet away, but the waitress promptly went over to to the sign, ripped it up, and returned to our table to take our non-sushi-special order. Um, okay. Another time it took the flustered waitress (a different one) over 30 minutes to take my order, then brought me the wrong dish. There were two other people in the place, so I am not sure what the deal was. Still, I soldiered on... The place smells funky. Musty or something. And the temperature in the restaurant is always within five degrees of the outside temperature. Ten below outside? Ten below inside. 90 degrees outside? At least 85 with fans blowing inside. The water always tastes like semen (or at least how I would imagine semen to taste, because I don't know). :) So this evening, the staff was watching a very bloody UHF match on the 52 inch big screen TV during the dinner "rush". I watched as two incredibly mutilated men duked it out. It is a good thing J didn't witness the carnage transpiring over her shoulder; the men were covered in a blotchy red substance closely resembling her chili sauce. Really? At an eating establishment? The other (two) patrons were equally horrified. (Well, horrified and amused) Speaking of the dinner rush: there never is one. In the many times I have been in there, there is never more than one other table occupied, regardless of the day or time. I am absolutely convinced that this place is a front for something, but I just can't figure out what. If they aren't, I have no idea how they stay in business. (Seriously, this sometimes keeps me up at night. If anyone knows, please contact me so I can lay the matter to rest...) The food is okay. Sometimes better than okay, sometimes not. It is cheap and within walking distance from my place, and I like to support local businesses. And sometimes I just crave a bizarre experience, which The Spice never fails to deliver....

Had the curry friend rice with chicken. Delicious!

As far as I knew, there were little to no Thai joints near my humble abode that delivered. Enter the Yelp search function and my inability to properly read it before (read: lazy). Spice Thai delivered our cashew chicken and Panang with tofu within the allotted 45-to-an-hour window, hot, tasty and with an order of crab rangoon on the house. Score! The Panang was creeper hot. My nose ran happily as I devoured the whole thing. Craig's cashew chicken was shrug standard and for the price, it was, what can I say, a solid three stars. I'd get it again, but wouldn't brag about it.

I'm looking at every previously reviewed establishment through new, vegan eyes. That being said, I'm pleased with The Spice. I ordered something besides Curry last night (which I've found to be too watery, but tasty here, so i continued to order). I went with Cashew vegetable. The woman on the phone informed me of no fish sauce in anything, which is good to know. The dish had a great assortment of vegetables, but needed spice. It was so sweet it almost tasted like butterscotch. The following day, it tastes better because the flavors have mingled. I recommend ordering it spicy. I also ordered the sweet potato maki without mayo, which was delicious. But i'm worried (unsure) if it had eel sauce on it. I recommend asking if you are veg. But the food arrived super fast and my overall experience was better than in the past.

When my boyfriend and I want to eat out, this is our go-to spot! We've been going to The Spice, which is LITERALLY around the corner from our apartment, since we moved to Logan Square - everything I've ever had there has been great. I love the sushi. The Pad Thai and BBQ Pork Fried Rice are awesome too. My favorite thing that they have there are the bubble-tea lattes - sometimes I will stop in just to get one of those! The green-tea bubble tea latte is the perfect mixture of creamy and icy! A treat, to be sure! We've taken friends and out-of-town guests to The Spice and each time people come back to visit, they ask to go there. My boyfriends parents - who are Taiwanese - were very impressed with the quality of the food and the sushi. They LOVED it!

Im soooooo picky with any type of Asian food. I feel like I know my stuff. I love when a place doesnt mind making my pad see eww crispy. You dont even understand how hard it is to find a place that does it right. This place has always been on point when it comes to my food. Ive had tom yum, crab rangoon, shumai, masaman curry, thai fried rice, pad thaim thai iced tea many times from this place and everything has always been perfect. Theres something about their Thai fried rice thats just so good. Oh BYOB too. damn you BYOB damn you...

I live right down the street, this is the spot I meet dates for dinner. I love the cozy atmosphere, the service is always exceptional, and the sushi is always a right choice. They have the best crab rangoon in logan square, and the fact that it is a small family operated business makes it even more worth it to spend money here. Prices are reasonable, and the food is great.

I finally had the opportunity to give Spice Thai a shot after almost a year of it staring at me a block from my house. It looks like it had been recently updated from past reviews I've read. I ordered the beef fried rice, which the beef was on the chewy side for my tastes. Also while we were waiting for our carry-out, they gave us water which was nice, but it was a little on the sulfury side. Nothing wrong for a late night delivery dilemma, but I could have been more impressed.

My brother and I went to this place the other day for a late lunch. There was not a single soul in the restaurant (including any staff) which was kind of disturbing, but we kept walking since we were starving for some pad thai. Soon, a young waitress emerged from behind the sushi bar and just stared at us. I asked whether we could sit anywhere and she pointed to the corner...alright... Next, we placed our order which was fine, no problems there except that the waitress didn't seem particularly happy nor friendly. First came our mango bubble tea which was basically water and mango juice with some tapioca balls thrown in. However, next was the food. I must say that the presentation of the plates and the food itself was quite good. The pad thai especially!! We also ordered the yaki soba as well. We were quite delighted. The sesame chicken, not nearly as exciting but still tolerable. Overall it was a fine place. My three stars reflects the more-over experience of the restaurant rather than the food so much, I guess. I'd go back for that pad thai though!!

Panang Curry oh how I crave you from Blighty's far off shores. Great for delivery, eating-in is not as desirable if youre bothered by fancy decor, im not particularly. The sushi is not worth bothering with, stick to the thai which is all-round excellent!
(4)Fred S.
Its really too bad. This place is just a couple of blocks from my house! I've ordered delivery a few times and it was just okay. So I figured I would try to dine-in. For starters, the help is horrible. Having to ask for things more than twice, when the place is empty is problematic. The food was no better than take-out and the place is not really clean or well kept. With that said, the price is fairly inexpensive, but it won't get me back there anytime soon.
(2)David K.
Another standard typical Asian Thai place with Sushi options. It doesn't do one or the other all that well, but it is also not that bad either. I tried the Massaman Curry with a Spider Roll. The curry was OK. The flavor was good (but what isn't good with Coconut milk?) but the beef was not. I prefer when they use chunks of beef, this place uses strips and they were overcooked. The Spider Roll was also passable. Service was friendly and attentive. I would go back but would prefer to try other places first.
(3)Andrea R.
Ordered lunch here again to try to the thai food again... staying away from the sushi since the hair of my last experience. Unfortunately, this time my order was wrong. I wanted the spicy thai basil fried rice and I ended up with regular fried rice. It still tasted OK, but the basil was the reason I ordered it. Too bad.

I dont know but i think we're going to make this our to go thai place. A. It's the closest one to our house B. We've had several meals from here and they've all been pretty decent C. They're cheap! They may of gotten new owners because one of the first times we were there it looked a lot darker and dingier- but having just gone there tonight It looks so much better then it did a couple of years ago. It has bright orange walls, and awesome seats in the window (we always sit up there because you feel like you're the display) and the food is a little better. It's a family business! so knowing what that's like I understand where they are coming from. I'm sure if there was anything wrong with your food you'd just have to tell them.

What is with Thai restaurants and playing loud dance/techno/pop music? I am a Cascada fan as much as the next person, but I don't really prefer to eat my Asian food to a heart-pounding techno beat. A+ for Thai Food, D+ for Sushi The Thai food here is really good, and I recommend you try it, along with a Thai Iced Tea if you've never had one. We were looking for somewhere to eat and passed by a few Mexican restaurants (I don't like Mexican food yuk), I was losing hope we would find anywhere I would like that has tasty and vegetarian food, but there goes Thai Spice with the sign on the window "Vegetarians Welcome" Wohoo. There are bright orange walls, seating against one wall, a nice window table, and a cool little fountan thingy that looks like smoke is coming off it. We also got sushi, which was hmmm not so great. The rolls are big though. It was nasty that there was cream cheese in a "tuna crunch" roll, it was just overpowering amount of cream cheese. The service was mediocre, and we had to wait for-ev-er for the check after she said she would bring it, then I finally just got up to get the server myself. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with good food. One maki roll was $10. It is an average priced place, I wouldn't consider it cheap, just average.

Really great Thai lunch specials. $6.25 for a meal The meat is certainly above average. I also really enjoyed the sweet and sour soup that came with it. the egg rolls were only so-so. The fresh spring rolls were even worse. They do deliver and also offer sushi. seaweed salad was dry sushi was aaaght. Dinner was not as good.

I went there with my family over the weekend and was completely disappointed. I'm a huge fan of BYO's and hole in the walls, but this place was cold (temperature) and served cold food. On top of that, they had a big screen TV BLAIRING and, if you're like me, you'd prefer not to hear about the health care reform during your meal. The most bizarre thing was thought our entree's came out at different times. We each got our dishes about 5 minutes apart, which is fine if they're doing this so our food is warm when it's received, but all of our dishes were freezing - YuK! The edemame and crab rangoon were good but who can really screw them up? I would not recommend.

Ok, I hate to say it, but I'm starting to understand the negative reviews. The last several times I've gotten delivery, the food hasn't been nearly as good as in the past, and the portions have become utterly dinky so it's harder to share. Noticeably lower quality ingredients, smaller portions, inferior preparations and higher prices have all led to me taking this spot out of my regular rotation. It's not bad, at all, it just isn't as good as it used to be. I have to wonder if adding sushi to their menu has caused their Thai food to suffer...damn you, Pan Asian craze! I'd still recommend the inexpensive lunch special and the staff is still very nice, but this is not The Spice Thai of 2 years ago.

Great service for a simply delicious and affordable Thai/Sushi dinner. We booked a large party (14) for a Saturday. I called 2 days in advance. They asked what the occasion was and had birthday balloons as well as a delicious cake for us. They were affordable, fast and very attentive. It's hard to find great service anywhere, kudos to them! FANTASTIC STUFF: * They server sushi AND Thai. * Delicious and nicely-priced food (about $1 less than most Thai places) * Food was ready, perfect timing for big group, called a few hours ahead. * Decorations for small party, brownie points. * Threw in a yummy house cake for the celebration. * Chef, hostess and waitress introduced themselves by name. * Kind and attentive service, they really went out of their way to make sure we had a good experience. OKAY STUFF: * This is a mom 'n pop shop, so don't expect fanciness in ambiance. It was casual and comfortable. * Street parking/paybox (seemed to be plenty of space).

Yeah, ok. It's a Thai place in Logan Square. So it is automatically going to get my business. It's either this or Charley on Armitage now that Sai Mai is closed. But Spice beats both of those pretty easily anyway. I got about what I expected or hoped for as far as value. I went in to order and pickup. The service was really fast and friendly. The room looked nice enough where I'd want to eat there. I got a menu to take home and saw that they have a fairly extensive sushi and maki portion on the menu as well. And since they deliver, it's a sure bet I'll be calling sometime this winter. This is a great food option considering the lack of Thai and Japanese in the area. The food was pretty decent, but I'll reserve judgment until I try the sushi.

Just tried some delivery from here. Ordered through Grubhub and it was at my door in 45 min, just under the estimated time given. My first impression was that the entree size was a bit small, but given their slightly lower prices I guess that shouldn't have been a surprise. Here's what I tried: Crazy Noodle (with beef): Nice wide rice noodles with bean sprouts, tomatoes, basil leaves, jalapeno, bell peppers, carrots and pea pods. Three Musketeer Roll: Crabmeat, tamago (sweet omlet), inari (fried tofu) all rolled up. Salmon Skin Salad: Big chunks of salmon skin with scallions, avacado and cucumber drizzled in spicy mayo and eel sauce. Overall, I'd say that this place churns out some decent Thai food. I don't think I'd seek it out or anything, but if you're in the area and have a lust for some Thai then go for it. I think I'll stick to Thai Lagoon for my local Thai fix though.
(3)B J.
Ugh. There were no cashews in the pineapple fried rice (the menu said there would be), the beef was boiled instead of stir fried, and the rice was gooey. I would have given them one star, but at least they were really nice.
(2)Ashley F.
I live about 2 blocks from here, so we order to go somewhat regularly. I almost always get their curry, which is decent but nothing to write home about. My husband loves their Oonagi (eel). The service the two times we've eaten in is hit or miss. Once was terrible- I swear it was a 12 year old girl serving us and she did not seem to have much experience. The second time was much better, but it was at an odd hour between lunch and dinner and the place was pretty dead. They fit the bill just because they are so close and I could eat curry for the rest of my life and be happy! Plus, they're pretty reasonably priced.
