Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This is my first impression, so I may update later. After a perfectly AWFUL experience at El Pueblito, I walked to Taqueria El Charro, and the sign said open. The lady behind the counter told me they were closed. As I turned to walk out and pointed out that the sign said open, the guy in the kitchen asked what I wanted, and said it would be no problem. Less than five minutes later, I was out the door with my chicken burrito. I will definitely give them another chance!

I tried their Asada tacos, three of them, two with onion and cilantro, one with lettuce and tomato. I ate one of the onion and cilantro with no sauce, one with green sauce and the lettuce and tomato with the red sauce. They were all pretty decent, nothing special about them, maybe a little more gristle than I like, but not a big deal. I'm sure there's a difference between the sauces, but not really sure what it is. I think the red sauce is more tomato to it. Because tacos are so basic and simple, it's hard to see how how one place can be different from another, so average is still good. The service was pleasant enough, I had takeout. I feel good enough about El Charro to return, and that is a really good recommendation, because between Devon and Howard, there are 436 taquerias on Clark St. I'm pleased to know that this is one of them. One thing that definitely stood out about El Charro was the number of ingredients (meats) they offered, like tripe, tongue and avocado. That's pretty cool and earned them another star. And the house special looks like a nice adventure too. Like the Terminator, I'll be back!

A great authentic taco go-to restaurant. My favorite are the pork, but the chicken are also great. Complimentary chips and salsa and pickled veggies at the table. Taco platter comes with three tacos of your choice and a heaping serving of rice and beans. Can't beat the price or the taste!

I am super happy to have stumbled into Taqueria on a random Monday morning. My breakfast plate of eggs with chorizo also came with rice, beans, and a little salad that included two big quarters of avocado. The portions were huge and everything tasted awesome for $8- which included tax and tip. I also really liked the fresh salsa that came with the chips, it had a nice spicy kick. I would definitely return to try other things on their menu.

This little no-frills, homey Mexican place is awesome for a simple meal. They have everything that you would like from fajitas to tacos to enchiladas to horchatas to quesadillas to homemeade desserts in a case. I ordered the bean and chicken tacos and they were both delicious, the chicken one being really tasty. Service was fast and friendly. Unfortunately they didn't have nachos there though the machine was on the counter, and my friend said to not bother going to the bathroom as it wasn't clean. I couldn't vouch for that as I didn't brave it. But still, the food and service was great...just avoid the bathroom if possible!

I came here with my boyfriend's family after a wedding to kill some time before the reception (3 hours in between). We happen to know the owners because they have done taquero's for our parties in the past, so we decided to check our their restaurant. It's nice to come into a restaurant that has pretty much all the meats you want in a taco. Most places don't carry the ones I like to eat (Tripita, Lengua, etc....yes I'm one of those people) and it was such a relief to know they had it! We had both the red and green salsas as well a pico de gallo brought to the table. Both sauces had a nice kick to it. I ordered the carne asada, lengua, and suadero tacos. All three were delicious and exactly what I wanted. The Horchatas were huge and also as delicious. (and i'm not saying this because know them...everything really was yummy!) I definitely plan to come back the next time im in the area for the tripitas tacos.....I missed those this time around.

Just stopped at this place for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised. Great prices, large portions, friendly and fast service. I got the small size al pastor burrito and it was delicious. Full of flavor, and pretty large for a supposedly "chico" burrito. My husband got carne asada and al pastor tacos and was also very happy. Minus one star for the loud TV and insubstantial paper napkins of which you have to use 10 to wipe your face... but the food makes up for those small drawbacks. I'll definitely be back when in the area!

My beau and I stopped here for take-out and were very pleased with our meals. He had quesadillas and enchiladas rojas. I had enchiladas verdes. The entrees came with slices of avocado which we both found to be a nice bonus. They included a green and a red salsa. My beau was particularly fond of the red saying it was not just spicy hot but really pleasantly flavorful.

Great simple Mexican food at a good price! Loved it! Looks like they opened up a new one in Waukegan and the food there is just as good! You would think there would be a lot of good Mexican food in waukegan, but not the case. Thank goodness El Charro is now here!

husband and i are exploring clark's taquerias from devon north. this was our 2nd stop. comfortably large space. Glass with ice came with jariscos (mandarin this time) Loud Mexican juke box with old guy feeding it dollars. fantastic. Jeremy had asada con nopales (steak and cactus) plate with beans and rice. Came with corn tortillas and avocado. Jeremy said the avocado was lovely. The beans were salty and good. the rice was excellent and mingled with the steak fat in a really sexy way. I wasn't too keen on the asada. Chopped really small. Good flavor, but gristle, you know? The nopales were soft and well flavored. I had 3 tacos. Asada (don't need to get it again), picadillo (solid, with tomato and lettuce), and the barbacoa (best of the bunch, with onions and cilantro). I liked that the barbacoa wasn't too fatty. I hate chunks of fat. (like there was in the asada). The tacos were best with a little green salsa. Speaking of salsa, both green and red came to the table, very flavorful, and seemed homemade. The corn tortillas were hefty and tasty. Tacos held up beautifully. We shared a chorizo quesadilla. On corn tortilla. Good balance between meat and cheese. Perfect. Really good experience. Would go again. just not get the asada.
