Agree with other reviewers, this place is super classy/pretty on the inside and serves straight up good Thai food for a good price. I've only had noodle dishes so far, but will be back to explore the rest of the menu.

Best Thai food I've had in Chicago in a long time. And at a great price. Hot and Sour Soup was excellent and hearty, green curry basil was tasty and spicy hot, Pad Thai was sublime if that's possible. The room itself is very nicely done from the perspective that a picture of the room will look great in a design magazine, but they need some art work on the walls and other noise dampening material because there are way too many flat angle surfaces for the noise to bounce around on. My wife and I were in there on a slow Wednesday night with only 3 other tables of fairly mellow people eating and the noise level was perfecly fine, but I sat there imagining how loud it would be in there if more than half the tables were full; and if there were 8 screeching women on a birthday party drinking their BYOB like some posters have said it might well be unbearable. I will be back, but probably ordering to go. If they get their liqour license it may help even though I love the price of BYOB. I give it 5 stars for the food. Service was very good too. I wish them well.

I mostly got delivery/picked up from here, but from the pick ups I know that the decor was great. I have had better Thai food elsewhere, but I really liked some of the curries and noodle dishes. Also, the crab Rangoon not only tasted great, the presentation was lovely. This is a great spot to eat Thai in Bucktown. The fact that it delivers is a huge plus!

Upscale Ambiance, great food and BYOB Our waiter always had a smile on his face and even made some special items for us, like an un-fried papaya salad. All the food was delicious. The decor was chic and modern. If you like BYOB Thai, don't miss this place.

Went to Silom 12 last Friday night with a group of 11. We had a fantastic time and excellent food. I had been wanting to get here since I live in the neighborhood and once I finally did, I WILL be back. I had the Crispy Duck Delight and it was just great, perfect amount of spice and the duck was so crispy on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. Tasty appetizers too including the some of the best crab rangoon I've eaten and the fish cake was very good. Will definitely be going back for BYOB service and takeout, it's that good. Go here!

Great food. Service needs work. Small, friendly, loud and enjoyable. I'm going back but mainly because its a block from my gf's house.

First time I came to Silom 12 was for my birthday dinner with my friends in July. I love the decor. And BYOB's are always nice for a small group. I ordered the Massaman Potato curry which is different than typical yellow curry dishes at other restaurants in that it has sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes. It's a nice twist on the usual dish. Last night, I ordered take out for the first time. It was quick and the staff seem very friendly. The prices are more than most Thai places, but it's worth it for a change from typical Thai dishes. I ordered the same dish, but I will try to order something different next time. I love yellow curry, so it's hard to stray from what you love.

I live right near by and this place is one of my go-to restaurants for take out. The food is really pretty fantastic, they have one of my favorite Pad Thai's in the city and their curry has a nice kick to it (not too sweet). The staff is very friendly and they are always on time with pick and delivery's. My only complaint though is the manager of this place is not very friendly or welcoming. Not once have I gone in here and seen that women smile. Regardless, I'll still continue to order from here as this place does have some great Thai dishes.

Came to Silom the waitress was very rude asked for tea she brought it, then I asked for sugar and a spoon she gave me a mean look and asked what else do I need as if I was bothering her. Food was so so but with her attitude I won't be back!!

Ok, this is definitely the best thai food in Bucktown/Wicker Park (maybe Chicago?) and it is CONSISTENTLY fantastic (consistency is SO important, but so hard to find these days). Every meal I've had here has been great and this place is such a welcome addition to the neighborhood. My favorites are Tiger Cries and Massaman Curry. The curries are delicious and well-flavored. The vegetables are always super fresh and perfectly cooked (nice big chunks of vegetables that you can tell are freshly cut), the chicken is always white-meat, moist and flavorful and the curries are perfectly flavored and delicious. Also, they will prepare it SPICY if you request - however, make sure you specify you REALLY want it spicy as I think they assume you mean just white boy spice and not thai spicy unless you look them in the eyes and say "I can take it." The service is always top-notch and the servers are so polite and seem genuinely happy you are there. The hostesses are a little flaky and not as nice but I can take it in order to get my hands on that Massaman curry! The only thing I haven't cared for are the crab rangoon - in my opinion there is not enough filling but there are plenty of other appetizers on the menu that will satisfy (coconut shrimp in particular!) Also, this is a great place to go if the line to Irazu is too long...I always see lines outside Irazu (which is great in its own right) but I wonder if people know that an equally amazing (albeit different food) restaurant is just right across the street!

Loved exploring a new restaurant especially for Thai cuisine. Beautiful surroundings, quiet atmosphere (for now) and great tasting dishes, but, although their servers were sweet, there was a bit of a communication challenge due to a language barrier. The dish presentation is thoughtful while the flavors are plentiful. The atmosphere is zen contemporary, but, empty. We were one of two seated tables. Sake awaits you unless you decide to BYOB for the $5 corkage fee.

Bravo, Silom...bravo! Best Pad Tai in the city if done right. Order it spicy unless you are a coward.

Absolutely fantastic! We had a table for 4 and had to wait almost 45 minutes for another friend to come in before we ordered, but they patiently waited and chilled our wine for us. The food was fantastic when it came. Had calamari and cho chee tofu and curry and fried rice and the chocolate mousse. Really cheap, fantastic service and ambiance. I was the one who picked the place- everyone loved me for it- I will go here again and again. Fantastic. I have also ordered from here before- but I preferred dining in the restaurant- so much nicer!

I ordered crab rangoon and vegetarian pad thai for take-out here this past weekend. The crab rangoon was amazing! It tasted excellent and the presentation was nice as well. The vegetarian pad thai was just ok, maybe I should have ordered regular pad thai and added tofu instead. I will definitely try this place again and try a different entree.

Finally found great Thai food in Chicago!! I've tried dozens of thai places in Chicago only to be disappointed and am soo happy to have found Silom. Great Pad Thai and I love the decor.

As a Bucktown resident for past two years, I have had to venture South to Thalia Spice for good Thai food whenever the craving hit, so you can imagine how great it was to learn that a new Thai restaurant was set to open across the street. Recently ordered carryout on a Thurs. night and tried the Red curry. I usually opt for Green curry or a noodle dish but wanted to try something new and the Red did not disappoint. It had just the right amount of kick to it and all the flavors tasted great. I will have to dine-in next time and take advantage of the BYOB status(for now). Either way, definitely one of the best Thai places around. Can't wait to try some of the other dishes at Silom 12.

Love, love it! We were looking for a new Thai spot.. Since the one by our house.. Is closed for renovation... I yelped Thai food.. This was the first thing to pop up... We decided to order for delivery... The lady told me.. It was going to take about 45 min to a hour... Half hour later... I get the call.. I opened up the bag.. To see these cute little crab ragoon bow tie things lol... I have to say.. They were so good.. It's up there on my top 5 best ragoon...I ordered Pad Thai chicken.. DELISH.. It even came with a chip... If delivery was this good.. I can't wait to go sit down and eat..

This place is just yummy. We went early on a Saturday night as they had no open reservations. It's a BYOB which makes it even better. We had the chive pan fried dumplings which were delish....I had the panang curry for dinner with the thai fried rice. I left there fully stuffed with Spanish wine and curry and did my happy food dance. I will definitely be back again. I only wish they delivered.

The decor is swankier than I would have expected for a Thai restaurant, but not in an intimidating way that made me feel underdressed. It's ok to be casual here despite the upscale-seeming ambiance. My friend and I started out with the chive dumplings, recommended to us by our adorable and charming waiter. They were excellent, fried golden and delicious and chock full of flavor. For my main dish I had the laht nar, which is my standard order every time I try a new Thai place - I like to compare and see if anything can live up to my favorite whose name I won't mention here. The laht nar at Silom was good, almost great, but not quite. The flavors were good, the beef was tender, the veggies were crispy. The portions were huge. My friend had the glass noodles with beef and she seemed to enjoy hers as well. We both went home with big bags of leftovers. We were both too full for dessert, but the items that passed us by on their way to other tables all looked good, although I can't imagine eating a dessert made of crushed ice when it's 2 degrees outside. Ample (metered, grrr) street parking. BYOB, which is always nice. Average Thai restaurant prices for copious amounts of food. I hope this cute little place can stay in business - it was very, very good.

ordered online first time tonight based on reviews - disappointing. I got a chef's special of duck, it was too sweet, saucy and didn't realize the duck came in fried cubes of processed poultry. we got a green curry too that was less than average. won't order again. too bad our favorite Penny's was closed on Monday, or else we would not have made this mistake.

Having spent a considerable amount of time in Thailand, I was excited to see an out of the ordinary Thai place in my neighborhood. So I ordered delivery from Silom 12 on a Saturday night. The delivery went smooth and the food arrived quickly despite it being a busy night at the restaurant. The food was disappointing. Of the items we ordered, only the crispy tofu salad was up to par. The drunken noodles were passable but this is a very basic dish and difficult to screw up. But the real lowlights were the basil chicken and the tiger cry beef. The chicken was typical bland Chicago Thai - lots of oyster sauce, too many bell peppers, and inexplicably mushrooms (and baby bellas at that). Just a hint of the basil that makes this dish and no evidence whatsoever of any chili. The chicken was fine but was sliced and not minced as it should be. The tiger cry beef was terrible. The piece of beef itself wasn't very good but I didn't expect Morton's quality. But the preparation was again very bland. the beef itself wasn't grilled it was probably broiled and thus didn't have any smoky or charred taste. It might have been marinated for 5 minutes as it had no thai taste whatsoever. The sauce was bland and, in what was a common theme, had almost no hint of chili pepper. If this was a cheap corner Thai place, I'd be less annoyed. But they're charging higher prices so the food should be better. I won't be returning.

I'm a fan of the hot and sour soup. This was spicy and hearty and I will crave this come winter whenever I feel a cold coming on. It was also very filling. Good mango bubble tea. Drunken beef noodles and chicken basil rice were good but not as awesome as the soup. The crab rangoon was great and looked very pretty on the plate. The fourth star is really for the friendly staff. They were very welcoming and attentive all through the meal. Looking forward to coming here again.

Hands down my favorite thai place in Chicago. I should add a disclosure up front that I've never actualy been to the restaurant...but I have ordered delivery 15-20 times over the past 2.5 years. Their food is amazing (I recommend the drunken noodles w/ beef). They don't skim on the portions or the meat content. The best part is the fact that they have without question the fastest delivery time of any restaurant my wife and I order from. Disclaimer: I live about 6 blocks from the restaurant...but still. Not umcommon for the food to be delivered less than 20 minutes after I call in the order...and the delievery people are some of the nicest and most polite people you will ever meet. Overall, I don't see how you can be disappointed with their food or service (again...I've only ordered delivery...never been inside the actual restaurant)

This is the first time I've ever liked a restaurant enough to write a review about it. My husband and I live around the corner from Silom 12 and, in the few weeks since it opened, have been there four times (soon to be five, as we're going there this weekend for my husband's birthday dinner). To put it simply, the food is out of this world. I've had lots of Thai food in my day and Silom 12 is BY FAR the best I've ever had. My husband is a chef and claims that the duck and pork shoulder dishes are two of his favorite dishes in all of Chicago (and he is REALLY picky - sometimes to the point of being annoying - so, if you don't trust my opinion, maybe you'll trust his :-) ). So far, our favorite dishes are the pork shoulder and duck (mentioned above), the crab rangoon and sweet potato curry dish (I can't remember the name). I also HIGHLY recommend the soups - they are divine. The servers are delightful, the ambiance is great and the prices can't be beat. Silom 12 is a definite keeper on our list of favorite places in Chicago to enjoy a yummy meal.

What a great place! Love the food totally awesome. I've been to Bangkok a couple times yes I know Silom street. Didn't expect we had that kind of experience here in Bucktown so soon. Me and my boyfriend had Craw crab appetizer, that was tasteful the dipping sauce was a perfect match. I ordered Tiger cry for the main and it was incredibly yummy, with sticky rice and tamarind spicy sauce....ooh spicy. I guess they know real thai recipes here. And he ordered Crispy softshell crab, I just got a bite that quite tasty actaully. We brought a bottle of merlot and really enjoyed it with our meal. Too bad no room for any desserts when our server showed us the menu. look good though. Definitely back for more.

Best Thai food in Wicker Park. More upscale than average Thai restaurant, with interesting chef specialties. Prices for standard fare are very reasonable though, and way above average quality.

I typically never go out of my way to write yelp reviews unless the restaurant falls into the best and/or worst I've ever had categories. This place unfortunately takes the cake as worst thai food in Chicago for me. Ordered based on glowing reviews, left dissapointed and almost in tears..literally! I eat spicy food on a regular basis.. thai, indian, ethiopian.. in fact I prefer spicy food almost over all other types of food!! I smother my pizza in hot sauce! The drunken noodle dish that my boyfriend and I ordered for take-out was SO unbearably spicy that it was completely inedible. I attempted to force myself to get a small portion of my plate down and tears were almost running down my cheek. Had to throw it straight in the trash. Nowhere on the menu did it say anything about this dish being spicy. Crab rangoons were mediocre at best and tiny in comparison to other places. Shrimp dumpling soup was the best out of the three but still nothing to get excited about. Overly priced and over rated.

I was really excited to try this place, but my first experience was a mixed bag - so I'm giving it a "meh, I'll give it one more try" review right now. But, first off the good stuff - delivery was earlier than estimated & friendly. The hot stuff was hot, the cold stuff cold & everything was packaged nicely. The summer rolls were very tasty - a nice in between of a traditional spring roll & a vietnamese spring roll; the peanut sauce that came with it was oddly bland, but it didn't really need sauce. The green curry fried rice was fantastic - just the right amount of heat & seasoning, plus we loved the shredded fried catfish on top & the bamboo shoots (I didn't tell my husband it was catfish on top until he had already declared his love for the dish). Now the not so good. They don't carry my beloved nam sod, so I ordered the larb gai. This was basically ground chicken on lettuce, with no textural variation at all. The seasonings gave it a strange almost dogfood taste...won't be ordering this one again. The chicken satay was also a disappointment...underseasoned, overcooked & again the oddly bland peanut sauce. The things that were good were so good that I'll definitely give this place another try. It may have been an off night for the satay & I may just not like larb gai. I'm hoping there are some more gems that I just haven't tried yet.

I came back and the green curry was super thick and flavorful, the rice was fragrant, and best of all, they got real menus : )

First of all, my boyfriend is Thai. Thus, he usually knows where the really good authentic places are, and Silom was not as authentic as I had hoped. Don't get me wrong. The crispy pork shank was awesome! Deep fried with a choice of spicy pineapple sauce (beware!) and mustard on the side. We also had the crispy coconut shrimp with a side of sweet and sour sauce, which was mouthwatering. But nothing about it screamed authentic to me. The paht siew (spelled differently from other restaurants I've been to) was bland and the chicken was dry. Also, the gui chai was more mushy than I expected. For such good reviews, I really expected more "Thai". Anyhoo, for the price, it was definitely worth it. Despite the "non-authenticity", I really liked the set up. Good place to have a date or bring big groups. My favorite part were the large open windows we sat next to. A little weird to be able to grab people walking outside but pleasant to breath in the fresh air. BYOB too! And for you ladies, say "hi" to the cute fobby Thai server. He's got a good smile. :)

Silom was good! it's in the old Cafe Matou space. We went there before seeing Side Hustle @ Gorilla Tango. We had good summer rolls (the peanut sauce with them was what made the dish - really good!) I have a low tolerance for spice and ordered the Panang curry with chicken as mild as possible and it was delish. I ate the whole thing without burning my mouth up. My husband ate the pad Thai with chicken (the same thing he always orders - he's on a mission for the best Pad Thai in Chicago) and he liked his. I think both plates were $8 or $9. The atmosphere was cool, way cooler than other thai places that specialize in carry out or delivery. We also had a great $14 bottle of wine from across the street. Would definitely come back!

Excellent! Love this place. Great service. I love the coconut tom gai soup to start, then paht thai with tofu. Appetizers: coconut shrimp, rock tempura shrimp, all of them are great! Great atmosphere, very modern. I love this place!

  • Scott S.

This place is not bad and we'll probably be back, but I don't think they deserve all the 5-stars they're getting. Pros: good-sized "summer wraps" (spring rolls), nice decor, byob, and the service was good. Cons: $4 corkage fee ($2 per person? we missed that on the menu if it was listed), the interior is acoustically very noisy with all hard surfaces. They have a good selection of veggie entrees, but only 3 veggie appetizers of which only 1 is not fried. My wife really liked her veg. soup, but my cashew chicken was so-so.

Food was good and portions were large for the price. Satay (chicken) was great. Orange Chicken did not taste very orange but the flavor it had was good. Chicken curry was very good as well. Crab Rangoon was small. We will return.

We've had carry out twice now from Silom 12. Both times, the food was really delicious: wonderful crab rangoon (the dipping sauce is great with this!), plus paht thai and paht siew with chicken. Food was ready when we got there, and they are always friendly on the phone and in person. We're planning to put them in our regular carry out rotation.

Best Thai food I have in Chicago by far! It was a very cool/modern looking restaurant as well which made the experience nice. Very reasonably priced and it was BYOB, so you can never go wrong with that. My husband and I have been looking for a new Thai place in the neighborhood and this will definitely be a repeat. It didn't receive 5 starts, because the service was good, not great.

I had been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally did last night. The interior is really contemporary & clean...loved it! My husband & I found it amusing that their water glasses are exactly the same as the ones we have in our home (IKEA!). We were there early so we were the only customers but others trickled in soon after. The waitstaff was attentive...friendly but not overbearing. It was nice that we were seated by the window without having to ask. We ordered the Tom Kar Gai soup, Paht Thai with chicken & the Thai Coon. Our waitress brought us some shrimp chips with shrimp/chili sauce before our order was brought out. A nice touch but the chips were a little stale and the shrimp flavor was a bit off. The soup was excellent...hot, creamy, a little sweet and tangy. The paht thai was good but not extraordinary. The paht thai comes with tofu so if you're not a fan of tofu you may want to ask for it to be omitted. The Thai coon was very, very good. Spicy, sweet & tangy. The shrimp & vegetables were perfectly cooked. The crab meat tasted a little odd so I'd probably ask for it to be omitted if I order it again. The sauce was very concentrated so a little goes a long way...it definitely must be eaten with rice. Overall, a good experience and a nice addition to our neighborhood.

Yuck, what an unfortunate meal! We were so excited to try the new thai restaurant around the corner from where we live. We have a three month old so we're always looking for new, good places that do take-out. We ordered the Gui Chai, Paht Thai, and Laht Nar all of which were pretty terrible. The Gui Chai are pan fried chive dumplings with a sweet and spicy soy dipping sauce. The chives in our dumplings were not fresh and our three dumplings were burned. There was not a good balance between dumpling and chive either. The sauce was about the only good part about these dumplings. My husband ordered the Paht Thai with chicken. The Paht Thai he received had chicken and tofu, luckily he likes tofu but how odd. This made the dish appear sloppy; these ingredients are usually one or the other in a dish like Paht Thai. I ordered the Laht Nar, which I've enjoyed at many different thai restaurants throughout the city. I knew I was in trouble as soon as I lifted the lid off of my take-out box. The stench from the food was so unusual and undesirable. The sauce was not nearly as dark as in other Laht Nar dishes and the broccoli was very overcooked. We always order enough thai to have for lunch the next day. Unfortunately, all the leftovers from this meal went into the garbage. If you live in Bucktown/Wicker Park I highly recommend that you order from any other neighborhood thai restaurant but steer clear of Silom 12.

We just ordered take out. I had to call back twice to get someone who could understand my order. Once the food arrived, it was some of the worst Thai I have had. We like spicy stuff, and didn't order spicy items, but had to throw out the food as it was beyond edible because of its level of spice. There are way too many average Thai places to throw your money away here.

DO NOT EVER ORDER DELIVERY HERE!!!We had the worst experience ever with this place. Talk about no customer service. I would rate the food but it never showed up. Because of the high ratings, we decided to give theses guys a shot and order it for delivery. Big mistake!! They said the delivery would take at most an hour. After an hour and 15 minutes, I called to check on what was taking so long (we live maybe 5 minutes away), I was told it just went out and should be there shortly. I said no problem and waited. After another half hour I called again and was told it would be another 20minutes. It had been an HOUR & FOURTY FIVE minutes and they wanted us to wait another 20 mins. No way in hell that was happening. So I cancelled the order. They had no apologies and were quite rude about it. When I placed the order, they should have said they were running behind or at least called to say it could take up to 2 hours and I would have made other plans. Totally ruined my night bc we naively waited around for them to delivery as promised. Like I said worst delivery experience. An to add insult to injury, I just found out they charged my credit card even though we cancelled and never got the food. Ridiculous!!

on our second delivery try, everything was MORE than perfect. until i spilled my drunken noodles on the floor. but that is neither here nor there. there was more than enough beef in my drunken noodles, george loved his chicken basil stir-fry, and the appetizers continue to be beyond delicious. i don't think i will ever be able to resist sunday silom 12 delivery, or everyday silom 12 dinner out. seriously i am going to marry this place. as soon as i let my husband know. the end.

I've ordered takeout from Silom 12 only twice but have already concluded it's some of the best thai food I've had in the city. (Granted, I haven't tried too much of their menu just yet; not to mention the fact that, as a vegetarian, a good majority of the menu items I cannot speak for.) A bit more expensive than some dive-ier places around but it's well worth it. I've had the por pia tod on the starters, which are fried to perfection and served with a tangy chili sauce. The spicy basil fried rice is so good. The veggies are fresh and everything is flavorful and spicy. yum-mmy.

Ordered delivery to Logan Square. Order came about 1 hr 15 minutes later. Food: - crab rice - i don't like rice unless it's fried.. and i really loved their crab rice. they were very generous with the crab and you could definitely get a good helping in each bite. i will definitely order this over and over. - panang curry - good. - pad see ew - also good! - thai iced tea - mmmm!!!! this never disappoints I'll definitely order again or go to their restaurant.

Contemporary restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. BYOB is a huge plus, but the food is the main attraction. Fresh ingredients and different levels of spice on any dish. Things to order: Thai iced tea and pad Thai. Come here with friends, a date, or anyone that loves Thai food because the whole menu is great.

Ordered a Chicken Tom Yum soup and a Pad Khee Mao. The soup was basically hot chicken water. It was by far the worst Tom Yum soup I've ever had. The Pad Khee Mao wasn't nearly as bad, but I've had far better many many times from various other Thai Restaurants. I'd be willing to try the Pad See Ewe or Pad Thai before completely writing this place off for good, but I'm not in any hurry to order from here any time soon.

Came here while I was visiting from out of town. I got the seaweed salad, which was super fresh with sesame seeds on top, a side of soy sauce (which I didn't use), all on a bed of fresh romaine lettuce. Delicious! Also got the panang noodle dish with fried tofu (which they charge $2 extra for). The sauce was perfectly tasty and the dish was really huge, you definitely get a lot of food for the price! The only thing was that the noodles were a little soggy and there was a lot of sauce - I would've liked a little crispier noodle and less sauce (or at least some extra rice to soak it all up). Also included very fresh green and red peppers in the dish, which added a nice texture. Will definitely be back. 10% off if you pay with cash!

Ambience: Classy. Trendy. Great for a date night or group outing. There are two sections to the restaurant. You can opt for the island table with stool chairs or individual tables with regular chairs. My only qualm is that there is dim lighting, so you may need to light up your cell phone to read the menu. Service: Quick. Despite coming here on a Saturday night, we got served in under 10 mins. Food: Delicious. Tofu pad see ewe is my to-go dish, and they made it well here. Parking: Street parking available.

This is our go to place. Great for big parties. Food is authentic & delicious. The service comes w a smile. The mango & sticky rice is the ultimate closer. A must check out.

I actually stumbled upon this place on accident, the place is really nice and it's BYOB. The service was incredible, our waitress got things before we even asked for it, like bowls to share food, and water before we ran out, and even apologized for the food taking longer then usual to arrive. We ordered Tom yum soup, drunken noodles with beef, red pepper curry, and pineapple fried rice with chicken. By far you MUST TRY the curry, it was so delicious!! Only complaint I have is that their wasn't enough rice to go with the curry. The Tom yum was a little plain, and the other dishes were just ok, nothing special. But again- try the curries!

We came here excited to eat some yummy Thai food! I will say, the Penang curry was excellent. Best I've had in Chicago. We got the crab fried rice - just okay. We split some edamame to start. I had called and asked if we could bring our own and they said yes wine and beer only. We brought sake (rice WINE) and they got nervous and had to check. Service seemed a bit disheveled so it was a bit of an odd experience here and there. But the Penang curry and other curries are what we'll go back for!

Look no further! This is a BYOB thai restaurant! For an additional $2/person, you can bring your own bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal. Make sure you grab a bottle of wine from across the street at Red and White Wines. The Tom Yung Goong soup is delicious, but beware: there are slices of jalapeño peppers in there. We also loved the Duck Delight! The duck is cooked nicely and perfectly crispy. Also you can't ever go wrong with ordering Pad Thai. TIP: If you pay in cash, you get 10% off your bill.

Came back for visit #2 at Silom after over a year and the food was even better than before. I went with the basil stir fry with tofu (again), this time asking them to make it less spicy and it was perfect. Flavored to perfection, with just the right amount of spice. Other winners at the table: pad see ew with chicken was perfect (not spicy at all, so make sure you ask for it if you want it) and the panang curry was excellent. The massaman potato curry was a bit on the "too heavy" side, but still very flavorful. You get 10% off your bill if you pay with cash. This would have been a 5 star review but I'm keeping it at 4 stars because: 1). They were out of the complimentary chips with seafood sauce that is one of the best draws of going to Silom. 2). I once again had to request them to add white onions to my basil stir fry (still, so weird that it doesn't already come with onions) and instead of charging me $1 for this, they charged me $2! Seriously? $2 to add onions to a stir fry dish that should already come with them? Unfortunately, the Thai food here is so far above and beyond anywhere else in Chicago that I will still come here, but I still think that's ridiculous.

One of my favorite Thai spots to go to! Their chicken pad Thai is always fresh and tasty. I also love the complimentary chips and the romantic, relaxing atmosphere.

Lately, I've become very familiar with delivery menus, delivery.com , and how to perfectly meet or barely exceed delivery minimums while I try to meet and completely exceed work expectations. I've been working 70 hour weeks at work, and have been ordering delivery quite a bit (and expensing it when I can) so I've eaten an array of cuisines from a variety of restaurants around Chicago. I'll call this phase of mine 'The Gilmore Girls Experience' since I've been eating like them while watching the show (shoutout to Netflix!). I ordered Silom 12 one night as it was highly rated by both delivery.com and Yelp. Disclamer: This is only a review of the food as I did not dine in. But let me tell you, even if it was a mediocre dining experience, I would probably still give Silom 12 four stars because the food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the larb gai, drunken noodles, and a side of sticky rice. The larb gai was by far the show stopper. It had the perfect amount of spice, mint, and chicken. I would suggest eating it with some type of rice (which is why I ordered the sticky rice) to absorb the liquid at the bottom of the bowl - it's so delicious and could be a meal on its own. The drunken noodles were also damn delicious - spicy, beware, but enough vegetables and meat and carbs to keep you full and happy. The portions are also pretty large that they can last two meals. The food alone is the best Thai food I've had in Chicago. Definitely worth actually going to the restaurant, that is, if you're not buried under a ton of work.

Silom 12 is a great Thai food in a little bit of an upscale setting. The decor is very modern and sleek, lending itself to a very nice ambiance. Our server was attentive, but her English wasn't the greatest so there were minor communications gaps, but in the end we received what we asked for. I had every American's favorite dish - Pad Thai (Chicken) - and I enjoyed it, though it wasn't really much different than any other PT I've had before. For the type of place it was, I would have hoped for something to distinguish it. It also lacked the spiciness I desire, so I had to request chili paste.

This place is great! I've ordered from them several times and although they forgot the egg rolls on my first order (which is why I docked one star) everything was delicious. I've had their chicken wings with sweet chili sauce, SO good, their pad see ew which was good but the noodles were a little over cooked, their red pepper curry with brown rice, both AMAZING, and their tonkotsu ramen. This last one I didn't like too much but it's only because I hate truffle oil and this clearly had some. Even with the truffle oil I could tell that to someone else it would've been great. The pork was tender and well seasoned, the noodles were fantastic so yeah if you like truffles then sure. That curry tho...really, really good. Must try!

Just ordered delivery from here. I was so hesitant. A few people said that it was great, best food EVER, and some told me it wasn't worth it, it was overpriced, and the portions were small. It is not cheap, sure, but everything we ordered was good: paht thai (aka pad thai), egg rolls, fried veggies, fried rice, and some organge chicken dish that was phenomenal. I'm a chicken person and usually don't like how restaurants prepare/cook their chicken, but that chicken was awesome. It was crispy but yet tossed in a dressing (which I could've done w more, but I'd say it was the perfect amount so it didn't get soggy). The rice was a great combo of tasty, clean, and yet "greasy" yumminess. We will definitely order from here again (although sparingly bc it is a little pricey, but worth it). There was nothing small about their portions. Also the delivery was prompt for a Saturday evening.

The music selection is awful. We listened to all of the worst depressing soft pop rock songs in existence. If you want to go to a place that's vibe will make you ruminate about all of the awful things that have happened in your love life, then this place is for you. This place also can't get many customers because some of the tables have started to accumulate dust that hasn't been cleaned in days. The food wasn't bad, but nothing was delicious by any means.

As a thai/laos reviewer I am bias and can never give 5 stars because nothing will beat my mother's cooking. However, I appreciate Silom 12 attempt at providing very delicious thai food. The take out order always come in the nicest package and the yum nuer that we normally order is our favorite dish. We love the panang curry and the tod mun, as well as the pad kee mow. My only gripe is the sticky rice. While offered in a nice corn husk wrapping... It has been steamed too long and becomes so gelatinous, it's almost impossible to eat. That is comfort food and I wished it was a little more authentic. I miss home and this restaurant helps curb some of my cravings.

Not impressed while hurting my wallet for a Thai place. This spells a recipe for a not so good meal. My skepticism toward Thai and sushi combo restaurants becomes further affirmed with this place. Of course there are some exceptions to that rule, but Silom 12 is NOT one of them. I gave this place a couple chances and tried the pad thai, chicken satay, and pineapple fried rice. The portions are modest, bordering weak. Especially for what you pay -- $9 for pad thai?? Robbed. Even Opart (best thai in the city) charges only $7. -Pad Thai: bland, slightly dry, but at least the ingredients seem fresh. -Chicken Satay: average, decent flavor and peanut sauce matched well -Pineapple Fried Rice: Weird. So the dish is composed of rice, pineapple, some veggies, and awkward seafood. In a rice dish, just stick to stuff that will not be difficult to balance on a spoon. The seafood in the dish was also overcooked and too rubbery. I felt bad for the baby octopus so carelessly thrown into this mess. However, there is one redeeming quality to save it from a 1 star review. DELIVERY RAMEN. It does NOT hold much of a candle to Wasabi down the street, but if you are in a pinch or lazy or hungover... and want ramen delivered... Then give 'em a ring. My recommendation: 1/2 mile north on milwaukee ave = blue sprout.

I really enjoy the curry noodle from here. The drunken noodle is also delicious. The only complaint I have is that they do not serve traditional Kra Prao Chicken (Basil Chicken) with minced meat. They only have sliced chicken for this dish. The chicken slices just do not absorb the flavor of the sauce the same way that minced chicken does. I would order from here much more often if they prepared this dish the way I like - unfortunately I only come here when i'm craving noodles.

Delicious! The only reason this review does not get 5 stars is because their curry was overly oily to the point of seeing the oil as you scooped the curry out. Next time I shall tell them to put less oil. Flavors and service, though, are excellent! /it is BYOB, too with a $2 corking fee per person. Didn't drink last time we went but wouldn't mind bringing a bottle of wine for the next trip!

You know a place is truly good when you order from there about once a week. Silom 12 fills my Thai cravings like no other and their delivery service is remarkably fast. I typically start with an order of the tasty crab rangoon...a must order item. To make myself feel a little more health conscious, I often order the fresh summer spring roll as well - delicious peanut dipping sauce to accompany. I've always been a fan of red curry and the Panang Curry with chicken is never a let down. One of these days I plan to dine-in as I hear great things about the restaurant's ambiance as well.

For several months I have been ordering from Silom 12 through Grubhub. Not only does the orders arrive within the time expected, but the food has always been flavourful. There hasn't been one dish - and I get the curry dishes - that I didn't love to the point of repeat orders. So, I decided to go to the restaurant to have a sit-down experience. What took me so long? The complimentary rice crisps and dip are a hit, and that's just the free goodies. I had tuna tataki that I will order when I return. Notice I said, "when I return." The larb tod was a bit salty and didn't have the curry flavouring that I love most, but I gobbled it to completion. And then there was panang curry with shrimp. Let's just say that I was a happy man with each scoop of the panang dish with accompanying rice. Silom 12 has this whole lounge vibe going, and I love it. With it being in Bucktown, I'm sure it fills up quickly after 5:00 PM and on weekends. It was a good thing that I went during the day on July 4th. But that's okay. I came. I ate. I made a calendar note to myself to return.

The veggie bun was awesome. The noodles were good too! They do have some cocktails and wine, I'm not sure if they're still BYOB. Its pretty upscale, different then your typical thai restaurant. Totally reasonably priced too!

Solid Thai food. I compare every Thai restaurant to Opart thai (thats my fave thai in Chicago) and Silom is a great place with some real good food. Came here for lunch on Sunday at around 2:00pm, and it was quite empty. We ordered the Pad thai and the Panang curry - both vegetarian with tofu. The pad thai was delicious, I would have preferred it to be more spicy, but I had asked only for medium spicy. So I know for the next time to order extra spicy. I enjoyed that dish - it was a blend of flavors with fresh vegetables and the tofu was the perfect texture. The panang curry looked really good, and tasted even better. Yum!! The curry has a nice thickness, I am not sure if that is the authentic way of making it. But it sure was delicious. The vegetables were fresh, there was basil - lots of it which is the way I like it. It is served with a side of white rice, hubby and me were in curry heaven!! The service was pretty good and attentive. The decor is quite nice... I would definitely visit this place more often if it were in my neck of the woods.

I used to order from Silom all the time and was a huge fan of this place. After a series of not so great experiences I'll be finding a new place for Thai. Their Hot and Sour Soup is Fantastic. The last pad thai I ordered from them tasted like a dog smells. I ended up spitting it out and throwing it away.

I wanted to ask my server to be friends. That's how nice the guy treated me. Very attentive and he seemed truly sad when I left. Now that's being made to feel at home. While the decor is modern, the food and experience are still excellent. The Skewered Chicken Satay was delicious. Plump, moist chicken with a not-too-spicy peanut sauce. And the cucumber salad was excellent. I found the Seaweed Salad to be just ok. Perhaps the dressing they used was not to my taste. I chose the Green Basil Curry for my entree. Yes, it was a bit rich, but they put LOTS of chicken in there and the coconut sauce made me not even notice it contained eggplant! I will definitely return to Silom 12!

Had a great experience at Silom 12. Went there based on yelp reviews, and am sure glad we did. It was pleasantly full for a Sunday night, not too busy, but still a lively and fun atmosphere. Very modern ambience, but not stuffy at all. The host was very friendly and led us to a great table. I had the panang chicken curry, and ordered it mild. Would definitely agree with other reviewers that their food is spicy. The mild I requested still had a big kick. My husband and mom got the Tonkotsu Ramen which according to him was "good, especially for a Thai place." Sister got Pad Thai which was solid. HUGE PORTIONS. About ten minutes into our meal we noticed water started to drip down the wall behind us and got us a little wet. When we asked to move tables, the staff was so nice and very apologetic (although it was very obviously the unit above them that was leaking and not at all the restaurant's fault). At the end of the meal they gave us a $10 gift certificate to come back and apologized for the water--- again very nice and not necessary but such a nice touch! The thing about this place is that they have a large menu with many Thai and Asian varieties, but they do it all well. It's not like your typical Asian fusion place that does one or two categories well but lacks in the other categories. Everything we got was great! We will definitely be back here.

We started out with Crab Rangoon, Coconut Shrimp & cucumber salad. All were good. I ordered the Paht Thai and my husband ordered the Red Hot Chili Pepper Curry. Kids split the Thai Fried Rice. All 3 dishes were surprisingly good, but this place is pricey for Thai food. Banana Wontons are $8 and it comes with 3 small wontons with a few banana slices. 8 bucks? We ordered thru GrubHub and while it was on NYE, delivery took longer than promised. The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is because of price. There are Thai places equally as good/tasty for less $$.

I think this place is a little too slick and modern for me, and as a result the flavors can be a little dumbed down. I prefer my Thai with zero decor and a lot of sour and funk to the food. BUT - that being said I definitely appreciate Silom 12's place in the world. They do very good food across a number of different styles/types - really a pretty large menu. Everything I have had has been between good and very good. They are also open late and deliver in a huge range, right up until closing. They really package all their food for delivery with care, and it is tough to find a place where you can get well made food at 11p at night.

We went to this Thai restaurant for lunch. My friend had the chef's special Duck Delight. I had the Basil Beef lunch with Hot & Sour soup. We started with Thai iced coffee. The shrimp crackers and dip were crunchy and tasty. My friend thought that the hot & sour soup had too much oyster sauce. The DD was overcooked. The BB was good. My friend liked the House Music and European decor.

I recently visited Thailand and was transported back to Bangkok's Silom street nightlife with my inaugural meal at Silom12! The Silom mussels were fantastic and deserving of the house's name; the mama phat kimao had generous portions of fresh seafood, and the green curry was great! I loved the urban hip environment and would highly recommend for a date night, girls night out, or group. And, did I add it's BYOB with nominal corkage fee ($2)?! The staff was very friendly and on point. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

When I ordered shrimp on the side for my pad Thai they called and explained that the shrimp would not be in the sauce and would be plain cooked shrimp. And to make sure that what I wanted. I think the fact that they took the time to make sure I got what I wanted is astounding.

I was worried that my move from Humboldt to west Logan would mean no more Silom delivery but luckily that is not the case. I am a big fan of places with weird, hard to replicate flavors. This is essentially Silom's entire menu in a nutshell. It is authentic (not that I can speak to Thai food culture on a grand scale - but it certainly tastes and sounds as if it is authentic to the core). I also love ordering from places where I have to say what the fuck is that and then point to the menu because pronunciation in my jaded Chicago-midwestern accent is just sad and impossible. Earthy curries, reliable delivery, and reliably adventurous menu options.

BUZZ - Curry (in general) I TRIED - Tom Yum Goong (5/10) - Penang Coconut Curry Beef (10/10) Uh oh! I think Dan Thai has a challenger! And surprisingly, it's not in LA, at least not yet, but from Dan Thai's own backyard. Who knew that in Bucktown, of all places, there would be a Penang Curry that rises to the challenge?! Went here for a birthday. It's BYOB! They have some really interesting drinks on their menu. I was specifically craving any of their lychee cocktails, as 1) I love lychee, 2) I love lychee-anything bubble tea, and 3) I've never had a lychee cocktail! Their food menu was also interesting. Considering this is a Thai place, the back of the menu had like 5 different kinds of Japanese ramen noodles. Who woulda thunk it? Their menu is very big, and they even have vegetarian choices. The place was already predetermined, so I was Yelping to find suggestions, and I was surprised that a specific Chicago Suburbs Community Manager who loves Thai and vegetarian menus has not reviewed this place! TOM YUM I enjoy Thai food, but I don't think I'm fully educated on it yet. I always get either Tom Yum or Tom Kha - extra spicy. Obviously, like Korean places, the spelling can be different, but here you have a choice of Tom Yum clear or creamy. Tom Yum "creamy" sounds like Tom Kha...but then they have a Tom Kar Gai, which fits the description. So...I'm really not sure what's what, but I ordered the Tom Yum Clear - extra spicy. The spice level was perfect! It's sweat inducing, but not tear jerking. See, tear jerking is where I draw the line. To help understand how spicy this was, let me put it in perspective. For me, BW3's Wild is sweat inducing, and Blazin' is tear jerking. So, when I asked for "Extra Spicy" I got the equivalence of Wild. The top layer is basically floating mushrooms - and I love mushrooms! There are a lot of "landmines" in the soup; however, all of them sink to the bottom, so you're pretty safe. Now taste. The seasoning, I'd say, was acceptable, but the flavor was lacking. I don't know how the "creamy" tastes, but clear tastes watery, actually! The spice kept me going, but it was like spicy "Tom Yum flavored" water. I'm thinking Tom Kha might be the way to go here. They brought this out the same time that my curry did, so I only got to finish about 2/3 of it, so that I can move on with my main dish. PENANG CURRY Served in a long boat, with a side of rice. First thing, the sauce is thick! If you dip your spoon in it real fast, it might drip a little, but the spoon would be, essentially, coated in it, which is just the way I like it. The taste of it - very rich in flavor, without being too basil-y. Seasoning is also right on (which they all usually are). Plus, I asked for "extra spicy," and just like the Tom Yum - they got the level PERFECT! The beef was a little chewier than other places, but this almost felt and tasted like pieces of steak. Still, it wasn't rubbery or tough or anything, it was good. The flavor of the curry was just so spot on, I can't even explain it well! The best word to describe it was "rich." Not overpowering on any specific flavor, but very well balanced. Scoop of rice, scoop of curry + beef, and it's eclectic! Last but not least - no land mines! Flavor and seasoning-wise, this and Dan Thai are pretty even. Beef is better here though, and I think the curry itself is a little thicker here, which I also like better. But probably the most important thing...when I say "extra spicy," it's actually as spicy as I want it here. Dan Thai doesn't quite understand my "extra spicy." So, I'm going to have to award the crown to Silom 12! Who knew Bucktown had good Thai?! SILOM #1! That was a great matchup, Silom 12 vs. Dan Thai, but we have our victor! Dan Thai will still remain on my 5-star list, but it will have to live under the shadow of Silom 12. I'm not sure I understand the "12" in its name, but it could be "18956" for all I care. It's VERY hard for me to come back here - but I will be back!

We found Silom 12 on Yelp and it lived up to our expectations. Everything we ordered was perfect, the place was really nice and the service was great. When we went the place was almost completely empty which we felt bad about since this place should really be always packed.

So, after searching for a replacement take out Thai place after our go-to (Zen Noodles) closed, I think we may have a winner! We have ordered probably 5 or 6 times (had to make sure it wasn't a fluke). After a particularly bad experience and another joint recently, we called to order...were told 45-1hr for delivery (no prob) and in 14 minutes they rang our doorbell. I seriously was impressed! So the crab rangoon is awesome and not greasy at all. Light and fluffy and a different presentation than usual. I also love the rock shrimp! So good. We have also tried the Green Bean Tempura dish, which was also great, the sauce was super good (it is a lot so be aware!) The pad thai is great. I have actually been ordering the rice dishes and they are super good! I have had the panang curry (sooo creamy and delish!) I tried the Drunken Noodles last night (which I have had at other places) and they were just way too spicy. I almost think it was a mistake. My hubs who love spice even tried them and said the same thing, but have no fear, there is plenty of other awesome stuff! Great service and super fast!

Delicious, quick and tasty. The crab ragoon is a particular favorite of my, because it is light and a good balance of dough and filling. Everything has always seemed very fresh and well season for this type of establishment. I would recommend takeout or delivery. The atmosphere is nice as well!

Great food!! Great Prices!!! BYOB....Good atmosphere and service I called before hand to ask if it would be socially acceptable to bring a 1 year old in with us for dinner on a Saturday night. The owner said absolutely not a problem, they could seat us away from any other guests in case he decided to act up (which doesn't normally happened) I'm very socially conscious of bringing children to certain restaurants. The owner had a table waiting with a high chair for our son. I thought that was very nice of him.

I stopped in here with a friend for a late lunch on a Saturday and found myself in an asian restaurant in the classic style of hip and trendy - spare, modern furniture, house/dance music playing at a moderate volume (which, by the way, how did this particular feature come about?) and nice food plating. They also have a full bar but I stuck to the hot green tea for this visit. The place was not crowded at all, and the server was fast and helpful. We started with the fried tofu served with a slightly spicy peanut sauce, which was very good. For my entree I had the tofu green curry and my friend had the panang curry. Both were tasty and just what we wanted on a rainy day. This is a nice neighborhood place and I would certainly come back here the next time a Thai food craving hits.

Silom puts a creative spin on traditional Thai dishes using super fresh ingredients. Their fresh spring rolls are particularly awesome --super plump, made with fresh mint and served with an exceptional sweet & spicy, slightly garliky sauce. The Tom Kar Kai soup is well executed with a made from scratch broth and an abundance of mushrooms, chicken and a few different flavors, including ginger (or galangal?), lemongrass and basil. Yum! My favorite mains at Silom are Pad Thai and Panang Noodles. Both offer a great balance of flavor without being overly salty. The Panang is nuttier than others I've had but with a nice mix of other flavors, including a subtle sweetness with good punch of spice. The only dish I would not order twice are drunken noodles. The melancholy blend of white and grey ingredients (mostly noodles and sprouts) were 'drunken' in a one dimensional, over-sweetened, high sodium soy sauce-based gravy. Not my cuppa tea. Prices are a bit higher than most local Thai joints, but justified by high quality and deliciously complex flavors.

Delivery was extremely late, my bubble tea was on it's side and extremely frozen. I've had better orange chicken here before. I'm rating 3 stars to give them the benefit of just having a bad night.

We went there around 12pm when the restaurant just opened and there were just us one group there, we waited for like 40 mins to get our food. One star off for the wait, but the food is really good. We all liked our dish. I ordered red chili pepper curry and it's incredibly spicy, which I didn't expect in Thai restaurant. I am a big fan of spicy and I handle spicy pretty well, but this spiciness is too much. My fire was literally on fire the whole time. But I love it. So if you are ready for some real spicy food, this is your choice.

Silom 12 provides the wicker park/bucktown/logan square area with one of the few real good Thai restaurants. This naturally makes me happy as Thai is one of my favorite cuisines out there and it also means that they're local. I've gotten down to a basic order from them now. Their Paht Siew is fantastic and is my main go to. It brings good spice without ever feeling like it's dumbed down. And though I know it's not authentic, I do enjoy their crab rangoon and the presentation that comes with them. They aren't your normal triangle, but look more like little dumplings, sort of. When I do stray from my normal dishes, I love their curries. They are complex and just damn good on the whole. I also have to give a big thumbs up to their fried tofu. The red curry sauce that is goes with it is a beautiful thing. The tofu is also done perfectly. I normally do takeout from here, but everyone always is very nice. There is a definite modern feel here, but it doesn't feel cold. Silom 12 is up there with some of the better Thai restaurants in the city. That reason alone would make me want to keep coming here, but add in that it's local, and that makes me even happier.

The food at Silom 12 is very high quality and made with care. I have never had a bad meal here. We dine in occasionally, but usually take out about once a week. I always get the Vegetarian Panang Curry with tofu, and while the veggies may occasionally change the sauce, spiciness, and preparation of the tofu are always very good. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, and classy-- a bit modern but comfortable. It would be a nice place to go on a date, or out to dinner with friends. For the price and consistency of the food, there is really no other Thai/fusion restaurant that I'd prefer to go to. Definitely worth trying.

I absolutely love this place!!! I love thai food and BYOB! And this place has best of both!! The ambiance is really nice and so was the service! Added bonus, its jut down the road from my favorite ice cream place- Margies!! I'm surprised it took me this long to come by Silom!! You must try this place if you love either thai or BYOB!

Right in the middle. Ive eaten here many times, gotten take out and dined in. Service at the restaurant is mediocre, but I keep coming back because they are close by and the food is consistently slightly above average. Its nothing I would rave home about, but a good go to place when you want a real meal delivered. Ive recently discovered they deliver ramen, and am pleased to report that its pretty good. A little on the salty side ( adding a little rice vinegar or lemon will take care of that) but when youre craving ramen and dont want to dine in at wasabi or oiistar its a decent alternative. The noodle texture is good and the broth is nice and hearty. Ive also heard pleasing reports on the curry, and ive had the chow fun-which was also good.

More of an Americanized Thai spot, super approachable. I'm a huge fan of the spicy tofu, spring rolls, masaman, and orange dishes. They've changed their preparation a couple times which is annoying but they are generally consistent. Don't eat there, get delivery from here if you want to try Thai food for the first time.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Cute BYOB Thai place that's actually nice and open inside. We went on a Saturday night with 10 people and I couldnt' believe they weren't packed! The food was delicious, everyone loved their food and it was unbelievably cheap for the quality. I LOVED my green curry, and I'm generally not a Thai food enthusiast. Can't wait to come back here, they're so accommodating and I can't say enough nice things. Also, there's tons of street parking but it's still close enough to walk to the heart of wicker park. Awesome!

I'm only giving 4 stars because I've never dined in, but it sounds like the atmosphere would warrant 5 stars! I've ordered carry out via Grub Hub twice (in one week) and it's been phenomenal. We've found a new favorite spot. The food is absolutely top notch. From the appetizers to the curry to the Chef Specialties and the sticky rice (gotta try the sticky rice). Everything has been awesome. The Osso Buco is veal shank and the bone marrow (according to my boyfriend) is incredible...smooth and buttery. It's probably one of the best dishes we've ever ordered for take away. Our next step will be visiting the restaurant since they gave us a $5 coupon when we dine-in (clever!). They're definitely doing something right. ...go here!

Ordered through Grub Hub tonight for pick up and it was very fast! Our order was ready in about 10 minutes, which was great! It was reasonably priced, and the food was delicious! This will be our go to Thai place from now on! Crab Rangoon: 2/5 -- very small little purses with thin dough which was nice, however they were lacking any flavor other than cream cheese. The sweet chile sauce to dip in was good though! Cashew Stir Fry with Beef: 4/5 -- The sauce in this dish was delicious; typically sauce in a cashew dish is very thin. This was a nice, rich, caramelized brown sauce that enriched the flavor of the veggies and went perfect with beef. The meat could have been a little more tender. Pad Thai with chicken: 3/5 -- Good as far as pad thai goes, definitely ask for spicy if you like a little heat. We found it to be bland. There were LOTS of peanuts though, which was great! Massaman Curry: 5/5 -- Absolutely delicious. Just the right amount of coconut flavor to compliment the curry. The sweet potatoes were creamy and perfect with the other flavors. We will order from here again and again!! Can't wait to try out the BYOB!

Probably one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the city. My boyfriend and I drove by this place all the time and just randomly thought to try it the other day and let me tell you, this place is seriously a hidden gem! To start off, the atmosphere is really nice. It feels like a trendy Japanese sushi restaurant or something. I was kind of amazed at how NOT busy it was on Friday night. In fact, I even hesitated reviewing this place and giving it 5 stars in fear that it will start to become another Nori or Cumin, because that's where it's headed. We started off with a couple drinks. Mine was a ginger vodka with iced tea and my boyfriend got a Long Island and they were both great! Our crab rangoon came out quickly too and it was delicious. Next up, I got the panang noodles and they were AMAZING. I always crave curry, but I love noodles, so this was a perfect fit. My boyfriend was jealous and I think we'll probably both order it next time. He did get a really amazing seafood noodle basil dish though, but the curry noodles were off the charts! I definitely want to come back, and I could not be happier that I'm moving to this neighborhood!

SO SO SO impressed with not only the prompt and polite delivery on a Friday night, but the pad thai was to DIE for! So fresh! First timer at Silom and it won't be the last!

I only had the calamari but it was excellent. The Bartender is a little inexperienced as he kept referring to a cheat sheet to make menu drinks.

YES. YES YES YES YES YES. I randomly decided to order from this place on GrubHub without checking the reviews. 7:55PM: Place Order, Delivery estimate 8:55PM 7:56PM: Walk Dog 8:15PM: Return home 8:16PM: Phone call from (really friendly) delivery driver that my food is there. 8:30PM: Thai Bliss. The food was REALLY good. One of the best Pad Thai preparations I've had in the city. Their Pad Woonsen was out of this world. I think I found a Thai delivery restaurant that will make me start ordering Thai food regularly again. And now we mourn the death of my disposable income.

I have always been a frugal sort of man... and seeing the cost of delivery for this Thai/whatever venue... fended me off for a few months. But one fine evening of Maker's consumption led me to throw in the towel. If you prefer generic, Americanized, predictable, normalized Thai dishes, like Pot Pan, Penny's, and Thai Aroma... Silom 12 is likely not for you. The flavors are highly Earthy, basic, and unpredictable. The Summer Wraps, Gui Chai, and Banana Wonton all have a flavor that you'd never expect... not naming anything in particular, but their tastes are unusual, satisfying, and unique. Their main courses, by delivery, are a fair sum above average, but are not truly different enough to call them out on a higher level that is worth discussing on any long term basis. It is my opinion that the chefs/cooks/etc here are amazing and have a large amount of potential to create truly groundbreaking cuisine... but may have a management level that prevents their primary initiatives from hitting their highest caliber. But, like most ethnic foods of Chicago, I cannot hold much against minor imperfection, so... and so, with a shot of Maker's Mark held high, I rate Silom 12 5/5 despite its shortcomings.

Since 2011 I would stopped in every week or two for a reliably delicious thai meal, but changes over the last 6 months or so have prompted me to find a new thai spot. Prices jumped and less and less vegetables in the dishes. I used to explore the menu but they are only doing the basics well now -- drunken noodles, paht thai, green curry.

Consistently awesome. Ruined other Asian takeout places for me.

  • Isabella K.

Best thai in Bucktown/Logan/Wicker area for sure! The pad thai is great. If you are a vegetarian, order with vegetables instead of tofu because their basic pad thai already has tofu in it. My favorite dish is the green curry. Make sure to upgrade to sticky rice, you won't be sorry. I mainly get delivery, but it is fun to go in too because there are not usually too many people there (I think their main business is delivery).

Excellent place to eat. I love the orange chicken and the panang is to die for. Clean place. Nice service. Food can be too spicy but they are very good to make it less spicy if you ask.

  • Evelyn R.

Didn't care for the crab rangoon, and unfortunately that's what I was really looking forward to. The curry was okay, but not something I'd seek out. It was a little expensive for what it was. In general, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special.

  • Steven M.

This is my go to place for great Thai food in Bucktown. I almost always get the woon sen pad thai. I might be a little biased by the really nice presentation quality but it's definitely one of the better pad thais I've had.

Best thai food in the area! Everything I've ordered here has been good (Paht Woonsen, different curries, Basil Shrimp), but the best dish we've tried was the Green Curry Fried Rice with catfish. Our friend ordered it, I never would have even noticed it on the menu, and it was fantastic. Really amazing flavors - I'm definitely getting that the next time. Our starter of summer wraps was really fresh, but I wish the peanut sauce were a bit more flavorful. We LOVE the fried shrimp chips with chile sauce that they bring out when you get there. Amazing. They serve alcohol now so now charge a corkage fee - $2/person. Seemed reasonable to us. They are also really attentive when it comes to re-filling the water if you order a spicy curry! Street parking is usually pretty easy. 220/365

I'm really starting to think there is no such thing as bad Thai food. In city full of great Thai restaurants what makes Silom 12 stand out, is the atmosphere. Silom doesn't go for dated looking gold elephant pictures or cliche Asian art, but rather an upscale modern feel. The prices, while maybe on the higher end for Thai food is still very reasonable. Service was excellent and our entire party of 10 all loved their dishes, which consist of standard Thai fair and some of their own specialties. The overall vibe and food quality make Silom a great date option as opposed some other Thai restaurants with less pleasing esthetics.

As much as my roommate makes fun of me for it, penny's has been my go to thai in wicker park. Ladies and gentleman we have a new champion. Food is 25% better atmosphere is 75% better plus it is BYOB!! Server was very friendly as well. Great addition to the hood..

This was delicious! The Panang Coconut Curry was so yummy! I got the vegetarian option and I was pleased with how they loaded up the veggies for me. I also tried the Crab Rangoons and they seemed like they might be a lighter version of what I have normally had. They delivered in much less time than grubhub quoted and the delivery lady was super nice. :) This is going to be my new takeout of choice. This was a dangerous find for my wallet!

Some of the worst Thai food I've had in Chicago, and that's saying a lot, because Chicago has some AWFUL Thai food. Everything tasted like corn syrup and tin can. I was baffled as to why the Yelp reviews are generally positive about this salon-looking poser of a restaurant, but when I saw the type of clientele that seems drawn here (read: extremely boring white people), I realized why most reviewers have not been critical of this sad excuse for Thai food. I would recommend going to the new Sticky Rice on Wabansia and Western if you're looking for good Thai in Bucktown (it actually is good). Avoid Silom 12.

This is more like a 3.5 -- was pleasantly surprised here. I like how they start you off with shrimp chips and the garlicky shrimpy dipping paste. Also got the summer wraps, crab fried rice, tonkotsu ramen, and banana roti for dessert. The ramen was surprisingly decent, especially for a thai place -- noodles al dente, pork broth had a good fatty milkiness, and accoutrements were a nice touch. Crab fried rice was good, although heavy handed on the white pepper. Summer wraps and banana roti also good. Would come back again, because it's close.

I've had delivery from here 3x it is incredible and kinda pricey. I get the ramen with the sweet tofu and seaweed. Omg I love this dish! Everything else I've had from here is good but the ramen is great and packaged separately so the noodles and veggies are not overcooked.

They had a cocktail list when we went last week; I'm not sure if that's new? It's $2 per person for the corkage fee, which was inexpensive enough that we still had them open the wine we brought. The crab rangoons were the best I've ever had...light and crispy, not overly breaded or fried, and plenty of filling. The summer rolls were fresh and the sauce was yummy. The dessert was this banana thing....so good!!! So why not 5 stars? The Pad Thai...the sauce had tamarind in it, and I am not a fan at all. It had a burnt caramel taste...yuck. Unfortunately, it's just not my Pad Thai sauce of choice...next time, I'll try the curry :-)

Food was very good for the Wicker Park area like usual. The lower rating is for the service last night. I've been going here for 3 years and it has been consistant. I usually get crab rangoons and drunken noodles with tofu- Yum! Last night I brought a group of my friends there and everyone got their food about 20 minutes before me. At the 10 minute mark after they got their food, I asked my waitress about my food and she looked completely clueless and then was like what was it again? I told her and about 10 minutes later my food came out steaming hot. My friends had all finished eating at this point (not because they are rude but because I told them to eat it while it was still hot). There was no admission of any wrong doing and no apology for bringing my food out over 20 minutes later than any of the other dishes. We asked to split the check a certain way and it came out completely wrong and when we handed the checks in, my friend who paid in cash did not receive any change back. She paid with a $20 bill for a $15 check. She asked for her change and the waitress went to get it. After such disorganized service it was pretty presumptuous to think she was getting a $5 tip on $15 especially when she charged her for someone else's item. I don't know what happened last night- I hope that it was just a new waitress. Even so, an apology or even a comp on some of the late food would have been great and smoothed things over.

This is not your typical Thai place. The service is great. The food is unique and the crispy pork is one of the best things I've had at a Thai eatery in a while. The plates are big enough for family style eating and I recommend doing just that. And BYOB!

Since my original verdict of this place, it's definitely gone downhill. The menu has changed since I've been here last, but not for the better. The uniqueness and attention to detail for each dish seems to have disappeared, I guess they are just resting on their laurels from the initial successes (ie happy diners) that they achieved. Now it's just another Thai place serving the same glop as everyone else.

Yum. Yum. Yum. I like Bucktown a bunch now. This was a really nicely decorated place with a trendy ambience. The Paht Thai and Paht Siew (I have never heard of them being spelled this way, but so be it) were so good, and my parents seemed to love the Cashew Chicken. Everything tasted so fresh, and the food was brightly colored. Always a good sign. My only complaint is that the server was pretty slow to do anything for us, kind of like we were a burden. The food, however, came promptly once we were able to order. For fresh, tasty, moderately priced Thai food, this place is so top notch. I'm coming back.

A sheik looking place that could be a high end sushi bar. The pluses are the decor and the hours of operation, they are open past 10 pm on different days. Food is decent and service could be better. In the winter months I thought it could be warmer inside but that's just my preference. Cost to size of serving is not relative and could use some work. Drop the pricing or give larger portions of food.

I've spent a lot of time in Bangkok. Truly one of the world's greatest places to eat. And most of the stores and restaurants us farang (Westerners) frequent are on the silom (streets) off the main roads. So I was excited to try some good authentic Thai. Well, Silom 12 is not the place for that. But I will give them credit for a very nice build out, friendly staff but unfocused food.

Came here for my birthday this past weekend, but not my first time. This place is really great! Very tasty flavorful quality food. Always fresh and consistent. Everything we've ordered here has been really good. BYOB!!! Always a plus! And the staff is ALWAYS very friendly and available. Dishes I highly recommend: Panang Curry Chicken Crispy Coconut Shrimp Drunken Nooldes----AMAZING!!! Chicken Sate Ahi Tuna Crispy green beans & shrimp----YUMM!! Will definitely be back!

I'm not a huge fan of Thai food. Turns out, I just wasn't eating from the right place! Silom 12 has turned me into a Thai food fan. They give you a ton of food for the price. And those crab rangoons are amazing. Had take out, but the inside of the place looks neat.

  • Daniel R.

Probably a 3.5. Pretty cool atmosphere for Thai compared most. Had the crab Rangoon, beef pad Sei euw and the banana wonton dessert. Pretty reasonable prices but nothing spectacular flavor wise. Rice chips are a nice feature up front. Chairs not that comfortable.

  • Neha N.

No doubt about it. This is the best Thai food in Bucktown! They have a full page of vegetarian options. I saw the Green Basil curry and asked if they had an option to not put in fish sauce...and she's like it's vegetarian, ofcourse it doesn't come with it! SCORE! The bf loves the chicken dishes here. Decor is nice, and the service is quick. What more could I want?

I recently discovered Silom 12 when I was on a hunt for a restaurant near Gorilla Tango. I had tickets to see the Dr. Who show and didn't want to go somewhere far away for dinner. Silom 12 was right down the street from the theater. Perf. The restaurant has a very sleek look to it with a black and white theme (I think). The lighting was slightly dimmer than it should have been but it was all very cool. We started off with the tuna tataki. It was slightly over cooked making it a bit tough but it still had really good flavor. And instead of a breadbasket, we were given these really awesome tasting styrofoamy-puffy-chip thingies that came with a sweet sauce that had a really good kick to it. My friend was giving me grief for sticking to the noodles when there were numerous curries to try. Pad see yoo is my favorite Thai dish and I wanted to see how Silom 12 prepared it. So I ordered the Paht Siew and it was just so #@$%&%$ delectable. I always make the right choice! My friend ordered the Osso Buco and he didn't like it. Thinking he didn't know what he was talking about, I went ahead and tasted it. It was inedible. Now I don't know if that's just how Osso Buso is prepared and green curry is naturally not good, or if Silom 12 got it wrong. Either way, I'm not ready to try and find out. So I'm basing my review of the restaurant solely on my food. I would go back to try some of the other rice and noodle dishes.

I'm really starting to get into Thai, especially now that it's getting cold out. This place has a cool vibe, like the décor. More modern than other Thai places I've tried in Chicago. Service was 5/5. Food was good. Their papaya salad was...different. No lime, wtf? I thought all papaya salads were made with lime. Asked the waitress for a few wedges but only got lemons. Really? I ordered it spicy, and it was. It's been 24+ hours and my asshole's still burning. Their basil curry was good, but there wasn't enough heat. Drunken noodles were decent, again no heat though. I've been to other places where their "medium" was enough to make you exhale fire. So when I ordered the medium, our waitress said yeah it's hot...nope. Again, good not great. I'll give it another shot though.

I have spent about 3 months in Thailand on various trips. I love Thai food, it is my favorite take out food (next to pizza). I am usually disappointed, but not at Silom 12. They have an incredible Massaman Curry, Pad Thai, and Basil Beef/Chicken. Their higher end dishes like Tiger Cry and Thai Coon are also delicious. I have eaten there with friends and on dates. A nice and somewhat trendy place. The take out is incredibly fast and I get it about once every 2 weeks. They are very friendly and the order is always correct. I was tempted to keep them to myself, but it is just so good and there are a ton of blah asian takeout places in Bucktown... this is a gem.

This place rocks! They have one of the best pad see eew and chicken panang dishes I have ever tasted. Free shrimp chip appetizers? Yes, please. The crab rangoon is also super creamy and crunchy and comes in a sort of upside down lollipop shape...super cute! That alone gets one star. The decor is sleek and simple, which I like. The prices aren't really that bad, especially for it being in bucktown and BYOB. It's definitely a great chill spot, date spot or group dinner spot!

Boyfriend and I ordered delivery on a random Monday night when we didn't feel like cooking. He's not much of a Thai fan, so I usually have to do some heavy convincing, but we were both intrigued by a 4-star Thai place well-West of the city's no-Thai expressway border. I got paht woonsen and he tried the green basil curry. The food arrived quickly -- perhaps 30 minutes? And hot. I tried to order from their website, but we were told we were out of their delivery range (Logan Square), but oddly enough, the order went through on the Seamless app. Odd, but not a big deal. Mine was delicious and savory. My only two gripes: 1) It could have used a bit more sauce, but this seems to be normal with noodle dishes and delivery, and 2) they charged an extra $3 to add extra broccoli. I was hard up for some veg, so I rolled with it, but for the amount that I received (not much), $3 felt like highway robbery. The noodle dishes themselves are $2-3 more than most places, but not too bad, so overall the bill wasn't terribly high. His basil green curry was wonderful as well, although he said he liked mine better. It was filled with gobs of eggplant, whole basil leaves, bamboo shoots, red and green bell peppers, and perhaps more. He plowed through about 7/8 of it himself, so I'm not sure there would be enough for leftovers like mine had. Overall, great food and a nice addition to the West side. We'll likely order from them again, but it would be nice if they offered specials for loyal customers like other Thai places, such as free apps for more expensive orders, etc.

Ordered delivery, ate it. Things wen't well. I assume this is a trendier place based on their delivery packaging, it was actually a nice change for the random strewn together boxes that don't always work out. As some other reviewers mentioned don't be expecting authentic but everything was no complaints at all. Will order again.

This is some of the best Thai food I've had in Chicago. Their curries are very rich, and not watered down like many other restaurants. I dined in when it was completely empty (early evening on a weeknight I think), and both the service and food were great.

I wanted to go to the zoo. The handsomest guy in Chicago gave in, and we spent a great day looking at spooky snakes, bats, and kangaroos. I even got to hear the lion roar. But then, as the day progressed - we needed some dinner. He noticed that this place had opened recently - so we decided to check it out. What a great idea! We were warmly greeted, and seated by the front window. I love getting this seat - as I can people watch in both the restaurant and the street. We were started off with some pink puffy prawn crisps. They were served with a sweet & spicy sauce. We ordered an appetizer - por pia sod - or the lump crab meat starter. We also ordered the cucumber salad. It was very good, and we had just finished it when our dinner arrived. OK, I finished the cucumber salad. I didn't realize that my super hot boyfriend doesn't like most of the ingredients. Ooops. More for me. For dinner, I had the paht siew (which is literally spelled differently in every thai place I've ever been to). Its broad noodles, with broccoli and fried egg. I had mine with beef and a side of peanut sauce. It was great, and the portion was perfect. This is sort of my "gage dish", if they get this right - chances are I'll be back to try more things. He opted for one of the "chefs specialties" - a whole separate category on the menu, and slightly more expensive. The interior is very stark white, and fairly modern. The set up looks like they cater to larger groups - but while we were there, there was a family meal going on, and a bunch of girlfriends having dinner out - and a couple of dates. I liked this place. Enough to go back again. If you're in Bucktown, check it out. And it was BYOB. With the great little Red and White across the street... you're all set!

Wow! It's been a while since I've really been excited to write a Yelp review! This place rocks the socks off! I've been searching for a favorite Thai food establishment since I moved to the East Village/Ukrainian Village area and I have been disappointed countless times (just check out my GrubHub history). But this place scores on all counts. Let me first warn you that my taste in Thai food does not lean toward t he super "authentic" side, I don't always order it, but Pad Thai and crab rangoon are some all time favorites of mine. So with that said... -Crag Rangoon - the light/thin wrapper style (my favorite) was delicious and the way they present them is so cute! -Drunken noodle- spicy, firm tofu not deep fried, maybe a touch more sauce but still great -Basil Stir Fry Chicken - again, spicy but not painfully so, and the chicken is white meat and good quality. - Green Curry, little bit on the sweet coconut side but, pretty sure it might be one of the best I've ever tasted. - Mushrooms are FRESH, not canned and cut into quarters and not overcooked so they still have some crunch to them. - All the produce tasted very fresh - Ginger iced tea - Yes Please!!! They even garnished it, though it was delivery, with fresh ginger slices and little decorative chili peppers. heart! This place is so awesome, I want to go out on a date with it and makeout.

I SO wanted to like this place more. So much so that I might go again in hopes of ordering something I'd like better, and ultimately upping my review. There's no denying the crab rangoon is a stand out dish, but it just wasn't enough to save the other items we got. Pineapple fried rice is one of my all time favorite Thai dishes, but this one just wasn't very good. It came in a hollowed out pineapple (for takeout!), and we were definitely impressed...till we tasted it. It was VERY dry and clumpy, it had little flavor, and the portion size was really small for $12. We easily finished it between two people. Of course, that might have been because the other dish we got was even worse. First off, the red hot chili pepper curry should be listed under a different category than curry. It's not a coconut broth or anything creamy, just beef and veggies in a clear broth, which was oddly seasoned. Some bites tasted entirely different than others, and I had enough offensive tasting bites that I gave up on the dish entirely. We live so close to this place, it was definitely a sad discovery that it isn't likely to become our go-to Thai place.

I like this place a lot. I'm obsessed with their Salom soup. In fact, I could eat it every day. +1 for that. This food is much better in person vs. having it delivered. I enjoy the drunken noodles (very spicy!). The crispy tofu salad and crispy papaya salad are excellent too (again, in person only... delivered they get a bit soggy). Spicy basil chicken is tasty. Haven't tired anything I didn't like. Double negative - basically, I like it all. BYOB is of course an added bonus. Nice atmosphere. Gets crowded with groups.

I have never been in the restaurant, but have ordered delivery probably half a dozen times now. This is a cut above your typical Chicago Thai place. I always have a tough time deciding between a curry dish with rice and a noodle dish. At Silom 12 I don't have to decide because they have Panang Curry Noodles! It's delicious and features wide rice noodle and the tastiest curry. The delivery is prompt and all that. Weird name!

Best Thai food I have ever had. Hands down. I don't even know who I would put in second place near them! You get complimentary crazy Thai ground up shrimp chips with a chili sauce (sounds weird, tastes like manna from heaven). Amazing. Next we started out with the spring rolls. When I order spring rolls I'm pretty much doing it because I know it's healthy and I'm not expecting much, but damn...these spring rolls were money! They were delic and nutrish, and if you wanted to make them un-nutrish they came with this amazing peanut sauce. 2 for 2 Silom 12. I'm excited for my entree. And friends, the entree did not disappoint! I didn't want it to end! I had the Panang Curry, and it was the best curry I have ever had. Period. My fiance went with the basil stir-fry and it was so good I'm probably going to have to order it next time I go, even though mine was so good! Do you like Thai food? Yes? Go here. Stop reading this review and go. Now! P.S. It's BYOB for the time being - not sure when and if they're going to get a liquor license. Our entire meal was 50 bucks with tip. You can't beat that.

We noticed this restaurant because it replaced Cafe Matou, one of our favorites. We had dinner on a Saturday night with a few friends. The ambiance is very romantic. The decor is super modern. Perfect place to go on a date or hang out with friends. The food was good. Normally, when I request super spicy at other restaurants the food comes out non spicy. Here at Silom 12, spicy is SPICY! So if you are not a fan of heat, be sure to let them know. Since our last dinner visit, we have ordered take out quite a few times. The place is a little more expensive compared to other thai restaurants in the neighborhood, but it is definitely worth it. Try their hot and sour soup. It comes with minced chicken and various vegetables. Best hot and sour soup in the city!

Perhaps I have made you aware of my plight in finding a great Thai delivery place. I had a love affair with Manee Thai til they decided that it was acceptable to regularly make me wait an hour for my food. UNACCEPTABLE. Their gloppy noodles in my tom yum soup just ruined what was my favorite hot and sour broth I'd ever tasted. I just couldn't do it anymore. We'd heard from some friends that Silom was good. We had a menu from some mass papering of our building. Fine. We'll try it. And OHHAPPYDAY it was good. Since they didn't have my beloved tom yum noodle soup (sigh), I went with my noodlishus standby, pad see ew. It was quite good. My husband's panang curry was the standout though. Creamy and just spicy enough, served with the perfect white rice that will make you say, "south beach...whaaaa?", it was comforting and luscious. Seriously. I finished his. The mee krob was great as well.* I love a good mee krob. Additionally, their quoted delivery time of 30-45 minutes was exceeded (25 minutes or so) and they found our door without having to call and make us walk to the street. Bravo, guys. Thanks for making our Sunday the perfect amount of laziness with a side of carbs. It really created a happy place for us. I wish they had online delivery, and I wish they had some tom yum noodle soup on their menu, but really, I think I will find my holy grail item from Silom and make this my go-to Thai food delivery spot. *For whatever reason, their spelling on the items is slightly different than the usual Thai spellings. It was mee krop and paht siew. Sound it out and you'll find your usual, I promise.

Best Thai food I've had in Chicago! I'm always comparing the Thai food in this city to the delicious plates I've had in NYC, and this is the first real competitor in Chi. I took my order to go, and I would guess it's even better dine in, as most places are. Plus it has a nice, modern vibe inside. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes beyond my go-to pad thai order.

This is my second visit there and it was fantastic!! Our server was very hospitable. Golf was soo friendly and noticed that we sat near a communal table which was having a bachelorette dinner party offered to seat a more quiet area. It was great that he did that. Of course, the food was delicious and opted for vegetarian pad thai. Of course, if possible, order the ginger as it is amazing. For certain, I am going back there for dinner again because of the service. Highly recommend good bangkok style food. Brings back good memories of Bangkok food!!

I considered giving Silom 12 5/5 stars based on my dine-in experience, but then I ordered the same dish 1.5 weeks later for delivery. Let's just say it was less consistent than my cravings for Thai food; in other words, I was hard pressed to find the cashews and chicken in my cashew chicken dish. I counted about 5 pieces of each, which was not consistent with my dine-in experience. I understand the quality may not hold up in a delivery situation, but the quantity? I believe that should be the same. On the other hand, I mostly rate business based on reasonable expectations, including good service and a good product, adjusted for the average cost of said product and/or service. Silom 12 nailed the service both times. The price of the Thai food dishes was average for the area, about $9, more if you get shrimp or a specialty entree, etc., so I felt they exceeded expectations in many areas. The establishment itself is very nice inside with good ambience and servers who smile (which I am a sucker for). The bar looked fancy, and our bottle service with wine at the table was perfect. I drink fast, so typically I fill my own glass at least once, but not this time! The quality of ingredients seemed to be high, at least for what we ordered, and we actually both found our food to be interesting and have a depth of flavor. I would call this food more Thai-fusion than straight Thai-food though, which is not really a bad thing. For example, the sweet and sour soup has a southwestern-BBQ twist to it, which I liked. Summarily, I would definitely give this place a try. I only deducted a star for an inconsistency in the quanity of food, namely protein, that I received per delivery compared to dine-in. Overall, Silom 12 at least met, if not exceeded, my expectations.

Went there before a show at the Gorilla Tango Theatre; just googled asian restaurants in the area and Silom 12 came up. I looked at pictures online and looked like a decent place to celebrate my mom's b-day. The restaurant is trendy inside, food was delicious (some dishes were too spicy for my tasting), but my parents enjoyed it all. The mussels in coconut milk as an appetizer was so good; we kept the sauce for later. The waitstaff was very accommodating with our many requests and did a good job responding quickly. Price was great for all the food we ate.

Very sleek modern and minimalist decoration (180o from usual 'authentic' Thai restaurants where the decor is a representation of a Thai antique store). Good service, almost too polite and respectful. They have a separate vegetarian page of selections. While their appetizers weren't great, especially the spring rolls, their entrees outdid the appetizers by a few, quite a few, kilometers. The Thai Basil Curry was the right consistency, with lots of coconut milk, and very soft tofu! Their desserts again weren't too good, but the mmmazing Thai green curry was enough for me to fall in love with this place!

So I was doing my typical Yelp scouring of news restaurants that have opened up around me that I wanted to try. I saw Silom, and although I was dubious of "another Thai place" opening up. I thought, what the hell; let's give it a try. Well I thought the interior was done well. Very modern and stylish. Pretty much what you would expect from a trendy B town joint. We got there early and the restaurant was relatively empty; which is why I'm not sure why they opted to stick us in a table right next to another two top. I asked for another two top a little further way, but they said that that table was reserved. By the time we left, the table was still empty. I dunno, regardless of the reservation; I think tie should go to the runner. So we ordered three things: Mussels appetizer: This was pretty good. I usually don't like coconut but the broth was very interesting. It was creamy but had a nice tang to it as well. And the price was right for the fairly large portion they gave. The mussels weren't the freshest, but still fairly fresh tasting. Chilean sea bass-my fat ass gained about 10 lbs this winter. So I thought steamed fish should be a trend I should adopt. The fish was steamed perfectly. A buttery texture, and the fish flaked off into perfect pieces. Granted, steamed fish doesn't scream flavor, but it was a bit too bland. Also, seabass isn't a sustainable fish. I wonder "do I care?" I guess I should. Hard enough finding fish I enjoy eating though Drunken noodles-I order this pretty much at every single Thai place I go to. We asked to substitute the regular rice noodles rather than the thick ones. They were more than happy to oblige. Well perhaps they forgot that when cooking. The noodles were either overcooked, or sat out too long. Cuz they ended sticking to gether in a clumpy mess. And they weren't very appetizing. One of my best friends is Thai, she cooks for me every so often. Maybe my standards are too high or maybe all the Thai food south of Argyle area sucks. I've had plenty of good Thai up there; I'm sure Aruns is amazing as well. And why do Thai restaurants always get aligned to sushi, a completely unrelated cuisine. Ugh, Thai food is going the way of Chinese food: jacked up and everyone is okay with that. The service was also a bit inattentive. When they brought out the entrees they took our appetizer plates without providing new ones to share our entrees. Shoulda at least asked us if we wanted any, but I chalk this up to newness. Overall: sadly, meh :/

Excited to see the new addition to the neighborhood and a good Thai place within walking distance. First of all the crab rangoon is amazing but the hot and sour soup is to die for. Always consistent and fresh. They chop up all the ingredients so every spoon is the perfect bite of texture of all the components. Really unqiue and a stand out. We've eaten here 4 times now and the main dishes are lackluster. The pad thai is bland and the drunken noodles were oily and despite the heat, bland in flavor. Serving them on a HUGE piece of lettuce is also not helping the matter. This last time we went the shrimp in both our dishes smelled and we didn't eat our food. I don't think the server cared or did not understand what we were trying to tell her as she smiled, shrugged and walked away. No apology or concern so I am hoping she simply didn't understand.

Just to be clear, they are no longer BYOB. Went today with a bottle of white we bought from across the street only to realize when we sat down that the hostess had given us drink menus as well...this was news to me since I had been here no more than a month ago when they were still BYOB. Now if you bring your own alcohol there is a corkage fee of $10 a bottle for wine and $2 a person if your table is drinking beer. Food is always good, although I'm not a huge fan of the pad thai here. All of their curries are phenomenal, I especially recommend the green basil or panang. My favorite noodle dish has to be the pad woon sen, it is SO GOOD. Some other good noodle dishes are the drunken noodles (they're on the spicier side) and the pad see ewe. The service is also consistently good, not super friendly, but very professional and attentive. Today was especially great because after we found out that they are no longer BYO, I was going to order a glass of wine from them only to realize that I had left my ID and the rest of my wallet at home, DUMB. Our server was nice enough to ask the manager if they could go ahead and open the bottle we brought at a reduced corkage fee since we didn't know about the new alcohol license, so they kindly accommodated us. This made me a happy happy customer (admittedly, I was getting quite distressed before they were nice enough to do that).

This place more like a fusion Thai, not authentic for me. Good to go with non-Thai friends. The grounded chicken salad is good. For Thai people-don't eat the som-tam here.

Im a longtime lover of thai food and Having just been to Thailand (actually staying at silom 9 just a couple blocks away from Silom 12) - I have to say silom 12 is my favorite Thai in the city. Best flavors, and unique offerings. Most Thai spots serve the exact same dishes but silom12 has some delicious authentic dishes I don't mind paying a little bit more for them. Try the red bean rice dessert - delicious street food in Bangkok I'm so happy I can now get it in Chicago!

My new go-to Thai place. I loved the decor, classy but not overdone. The service was very prompt and friendly. I had mama paht kimao, and it was amazing. Kind of like a Thai choppino...the noodles were perfectly cooked, the seafood was cooked well, and it had just the right amount of heat. The prices are great, too. You get way more than you pay for.

This place was so amazing. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was perfect, the prices are good, Byob, and the decor is really pretty. Only a block or two from a blue line stop, definitely give this place a try.

I'm new to the neighborhood so I'm looking for a new Thai restaurant to regular. Unfortunately this is not the one. :-( We ordered the tofu pad Thai, fried tofu, and crab ragoon. The pad Thai was a major disappointment as it tasted like the sauce was burnt. I'm an onion lover, and I felt like the were to many green onions in the dish. *shock* The fried tofu left me with more flavor to desire. The crab ragoon was probably the best part, but seemed a little overpriced for what was offered. In conclusion, I'm still looking for the perfect Bucktown Thai. :'(

I just moved to Chicago in July and have been desperately searching for a good Thai restaurant in the Bucktown/Wicker Park area. Unfortunately, my experience has been grim, UNTIL NOW! I decided to check out Silom 12 last night with a couple friends after a beer-tasting across the street. We thought, hey, it's a BYOB and we just bought some fun new beers, so why not? The atmosphere of the restaurant was very trendy and chic. The staff promptly seated us and they were very cordial throughout the night, lending to a good experience. The food...was....fabulous. I ordered the chicken paht thai and my friends ordered chicken panang curry and a shrimp curry. All three dishes were excellent, flavorful and huge. I had asked for my dish spicy and they did not mess around! My nose was sniffling and my eyes were watering, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The portion was so big and the price was super reasonable for the Chicago area. I will definitely come back here again. I am also excited that they offer take-out and I believe they said delivery..which would be perfect for that Sunday evening when you don't feel like cooking and want to order food!

We returned with a party of 20 and I was even more impressed. Standout dishes: Tiger Cry - took awhile to come out, but very tender and flavorful steak Duck delight- boneless cubes of crispy duck served with asparagus and prawns.. Excellent flavor, not gamey whatsoever. Beef/Chicken Pad Thai- consistently great With all the appetizers, entrees, and corkage it only came out to $24/person.

i was once told that green curry isn't for everyone--you either love it or hate it. i was also told that it tastes somewhat like soap, so i stayed away from it for years and stuck to my usual red curries. upon telling this to my friend, he suggested that we go to silom 12 to change my mind about green curry and i'm sure glad i gave it a try. it's freakin' awesome. i'm not sure if it's just silom 12's green curry that's tasty or if that's what it's supposed to really taste like but regardless, i am now a green curry fan. we arrived around the usual dinner time but this place was so quiet. quiet to the point where i felt like i had to really keep my voice down to maintain it's vibe. perhaps it's a bit more poppin' (sorry, i can't think of any other word to use...) in the weekends and such but with the dim lights and uber swanky decor, i felt as if it was a bit stuffy. but this is just all minor stuff. the green curry was pretty brilliant. considering it's a curry, there was a lightness to it. very green, citrusy flavors, salty enough but was had a sweetness that i enjoyed even without the rice in each bite. i got the beef curry and i definitely didn't have any complaints about the protein either. another thing that was awesome here, was the complimentary shrimp chips. oh golly, it was crunchy, and left a bit of grease on your fingers to let you know that it was fresh. it came with a green chutney like sauce that i'm thinking was made with green chilis, spices, and dashes of fish sauce. i could've made a meal of it's own with that thing. i have yet to try silom 12 again but this place is a winner in my book.

Great food, and very reasonable. The fresh spring rolls are great! Be careful, if they say a dish is spicy "hot".....they actually mean "on fire" ;). Go with medium if you like spicy.

I'm a sucker for a well done coconut-based, curry dish over rice; and they don't disappoint. I take the El out of my way just to walk over here and eat. The chicken in the dishes is well prepared, but would probably fit the meal better if it was cut a little thinner. They only bring you a small container of rice, and then charge over $2 for more rice. The mixed drinks are good, but they are also about a $1-2 more expensive than they should be for a weekend lunch. I've tried the dishes that my friends have ordered, and they have also been good, but the coconut-based, curry dishes w/ an extra-side of rice is the reason to come. The layout of the restaurant changes the ambience based on where you sit. You can make this place work for whichever situation you're looking. During the fall months, I prefer to sit at a small table next to the street.

I've been wanting to try this place since they opened. Yesterday was the husband's bday, what better reason to try a new Thai place. The restaurant is very clean and well decorated. The staff was attentive and extremely friendly without being annoying. We started with the summer wraps and crispy coconut shrimp. DELICIOUS!!! The coconut shrimp was the size of a tennis ball, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Contrary to another review, I found it very "coconutty". The husband ordered the Chilean sea bass as an entree and I went with the red pepper shrimp. The curry sauce was so flavorful I could drink it with a straw. As far as heat goes, it was a medium heat....just the way I love it. We were both pleased although, the husband said he probably would try something else next time and there will indeed be a next time!! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm about to have my leftovers.

Well, it tasted healthy and the bubble tea was on par, but the price point makes me unhappy. There wasn't enough tofu on as the main course. I'd assume the chicken or beef is the same way. I liked the veggies being fresh, but the amount of preparation for each dish is as simple as throwing things from containers into a plastic takeout bin and shaking to mix. I didn't see much different between each dish we sampled; they all tasted the same.

Noise: too loud even though the restaurant was half empty and music was pretty quiet. Food: Red pepper curry was spiced to our taste, although could have been spicier because we told the waiter we like spice, also could have used more chicken. The crazy tiger - steak grilled on top off green beans was a bit overcooked. But overall, the meal was great.

I used to live above this restaurant. First I will say that I did not appreciate the ventilation job they did when they built this place. I couldn't use my apartment for 2 days without my lungs disintigrating. Everything that I have ever had here has been pretty great. If I am going to get some thai food this would be my first option. We came here with 10 people or so one time and the service was pretty good and everyone really enjoyed their meal. This place used to be BYOB, but I just checked their website and they sell alcohol now so I'm sure that has changed. The interior is pretty trendy and fun to dine in. Good portions, good prices.

I'll start by admitting that I have little knowledge about "authentic" Thai food. I've recently developed a taste for Thai and Indian food and have been experimenting with different curry dishes, etc. I have a pallet for sweeter items, usually. That being said, I was not overly impressed with Silom 12. A couple friends and I went on a Tuesday evening. The place was dead - one other group was there. Maybe it's slower during the week - but the place is pretty cool... great atmosphere and decorating. We started with Crispy Coconut shrimp, which is deceiving. It's more of a "crab-cake"-type dish. They're extremely large and slightly bland (sans sauce.) We also ordered crab rangoon - which were good. Nice presentation. For my entree, I ordered the Massaman Potato Curry with sweet potato. Like I said, I have a taste for sweet dishes (huge pad thai fan - sweet and spicy) - and this was good, but very rich. After a few bites, I had exhausted my taste for it. Overall, it wasn't bad - but I've definitely found a few Thai places not so far from Silom that I enjoy more, like Angong or Satay.

I was excited to try this place. I REALLY want to have a go-to Thai place close enough to get take out. Unfortunately this will not be it. We ordered several dishes for take out. The man I spoke to over the phone was very nice and our order was done when they said it would be. We ordered a noodle dish, a stir fry, a fried rice and a curry. When I ordered my curry I was told it would be spicy, no problem. I love spicy, Thai spicy... when you are sweating and your nose is running, but you are stuffing your face anyway. Unfortunately the food was not so good. My first clue was opening the bag and smelling no fish sauce. The fried rice was the best thing and it was just meh. Good texture, but not much flavor. The curry was not curry, it was soup (literally thin, clear, redish broth) with absolutely zero flavor. Imagine eating hot, spicy, water with chewy, dry, grisly chicken... so dry you need a drink to wash it down. The noodles were mushy and oily and the stir fry was in a thick sauce with an overbearing soy sauce flavor. The main issue was the lack of flavor. No lime, basil, cilantro, ginger, lemongrass, curry, fish sauce... all of the beautiful flavors and aromas associated with Thai were missing. I would say this is a place that serves Americanized, Asian style fast food. We had a lot of leftovers (SO not normal with Thai. I am a Thai addict and can polish off 6 entrees no problemo), they were not edible the next day.

I work nearby Silom 12, so I have a lot of great options for lunch. This place consistently makes some of the best Paht siew I've ever had, and I've had the staple dish many, many times all over the US. The Chinese broccoli was really fresh, the taste was awesome, and the amount of food I received was a lot for $9.00. Even though I picked up my food and didn't eat in, the dining room looks cozy and nice. They also make killer ramen soup I hear! Great fresh, Thai food at a decent price. Well worth a visit. Open until midnight Friday and Saturday too.

We came here last Saturday night celebrating my boyfriend's birthday and had a really, really nice time. I cannot imagine having a better dining experience anywhere else. And they're BYO for now, which is just icing on the cake. Or peanut sauce on the pad thai. Whichever you prefer. As far as I'm concerned, this is THE place to go for Thai in Chicago. In fact, I cannot think of a single thing that I don't like about Silom 12. And lots that I do: *Very cool, nice, chic and energized atmosphere that isn't too loud for a conversation. *Wonderful and attentive service and staff. *More than reasonably priced menu with tons of options. *Excellent bathroom lighting. This is key. *DELICIOUS food: I'm still thinking about the drunken noodles and the coconut curry, as well as the dumpling appetizer. Hurry up and go.

Very good Thai food and very inexpensive for what you get. My friend and I came here at 10:15pm on a Wednesday. We were the only customers there. The staff was extremely nice and took good care of us. Once ordered, our food came out pretty fast and it tasted great. The decor is modern and clean. Great price too; my chicken drunked noodles were only $8. I will be back often.

This is my go to Thai spot in Logan square/Bucktown. I love that there menu isn't the standard boring thai menu that you see everywhere. Their menu is really interesting and they offer many dishes and combinations that are new to me. The yaki suki path is delicious and the summer roll apptizer is fresh with a yummy peanut dipping sauce.. Inside has sleek and modern decor but comes off being laid back and not stuffy and the food is reasonably priced for portion and quality. They are BYOB but they also have beer and martinis which is nice if you want something like a lychee martin which you can't really bring. They also offer delivery which is always clutch and the food always shows up well packaged and neat. All in all one of my favorite new finds in the city.

SIlom 12 is the Thai Justin Bieber: bubblegum flat flavors with a notable look. We downed a magnum sized bottle of Yellowtail here, because no cheap party gift should go to waste. Foodwise, nothing is explosive. Silom lacks the Northern Thai gusto it promotes. The craw crab and papaya salad are futile. The seabass had potential but the surplus of bones interfered. The drunken noodles exuded standard bravado as did the red pepper curry. The staff is more then humble and gracious. And Silom has that look which makes it a fun and novel place to munch on a more interesting Thai menu. Too bad the only thing that really stuck was the aftertaste of the Tail.

My girlfriends and I (all 7 of us) found ourselves at Silom on a Saturday night from a lack of planning and a crushed hope of getting a reservation last minute. We were pleasantly surprised the BYOB Gods did not punish us for our poor preparation. We called ahead and were told to arrive at 6:30 pm to ensure all 7 of us could be seated without a reservation. We arrived right on time and were sat at a beautiful long table in the middle of the dining room. The atmosphere is modern/cool, yet welcoming. It took me about 3 minutes to wiggle my way into my seat - the chairs at our table were high with a half circle making up the chair's back and arms - but once I made it in, it was comfortable. The servers were attentive. They immediately opened some of our wine, brought us water and a small pastry dish that we all enjoyed. We ordered two orders of spring rolls for appetizers: one shrimp and one veggie. They were both great. For entrees, we all selected different dishes and no one had complaints, in fact, everyone was very pleased (not an easy feat with 7 ladies) with the exception of one dish being a little too spicy. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken. I'm a sucker for wide noodles, and these did not disappoint. The spiciness was perfect, not too hot, and the veggies and chicken were great. I would also like to give a shout-out to the waiters. They were exceedingly nice, which goes such a long way with me. My pet peeve is when crabby people are in the service business. If your job relies heavily on interacting with people and customer service, please make sure you can handle your bad day internally. I wish Silom 12 delivered because this would be my go-to.

Pros: -Amazing interior design and decor! -Simple menu. -Fast service. -BYOB Cons: -A bit expensive. -Not as many menu selections as some other Thai restaurants. -Not a lot of food per plate. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with tofu, and it was quite delicious. The noodles were perfect (not too crunchy and not too soggy) and the veggies were fresh. This place is good, but it's lacking a certain something... I'll definitely be back here, though. It's in a convenient location and really chill!

Dined in last night. It took longer than necessary for first contact and drinks to come. The mee krob was okay- generous portion but the heat, both spice and temperature were uneven. Hot and sour soup was more gelatinous that I prefer and lacked the density and abundance of veggies and ground chicken that we've had with takeout. Finally, we shared the pad thai -- it was overly sweet and the noodles were a bit overcooked and more like spaghetti than traditional pad thai noodles. Asked for hot sauce but what we got was more like ketchup with tabasco sauce in it; not good. The hot sake we ordered came out cool at first, scalding upon request for warmer, but bottle three was about right. Overall a frustrating experience from a place I liked and expected better of. Will not dine in again and having serious second thoughts about ordering takeout again too.

The decor definitely elevates the place from your typical Thai restaurant. I was here on a recent rainy Wednesday night with a couple of girlfriends. Plenty of open seats in this BYOB. The sleek clean lines of the place was really impressive. The shrimp chips starter were the best I've had and we went through two baskets quickly. We ordered three entrees and an appetizer. We shared everything. The spring rolls were fresh and light and my only complaint is that they didn't put the yummy peanut dipping sauce into the roll. We ordered pad thai, green curry and fried rice. The green curry was by far the stand out dish of the three. I can honestly say, my favorite, ever! The other two entrees were fine but paled in comparison to the curry. Just the right amount of richness and heat for my pallette. Loved it. The chocolate mousse reminded me more of a flourless cake and was not in the least Thai, and I'm not complaining. Very very yummy. The presentation of each of the dishes was beautiful. Linens, attentive, friendly but not too friendly and more importantly efficient service - all good. I really liked this place and BYOB is always a good thing. I recomend.

I have wanted to go to this BYOB Thai restaurant since it opened. I finally got around to going this past weekend. My fiance and I went around 6 p.m. and were seated right away. I really loved the clean, modern decor. We were served chips and an accommodating dipping sauce. It was delicious and something I have never tried before, which is always a plus at a restaurant. Then we started with the Summer wraps. It was a clean and light wrap with a rich peanut sauce for dipping. Then we shared Silom's Pineapple Fried rice with pork. The chunks of pineapple's were juicy and tender. It paired nicely with the rich pork flavor. We also shared a shrimp noodle entree. It was different than other Thai noodles I have had, but in a good way! Once, the bill came, I was pleasantly surprised that it was moderately priced. When we were leaving there was a line forming for take out. Even though the restaurant was empty, it seems they do a great carry out business. We will definitely be back for more!

I have driven by this place several times and finally decided to stop in for dinner. My hubby and I ordered the tuna tataki to start and it was seared and seasoned perfectly. For entrees I ordered the Massaman Potato Curry w/ Chicken. Now, I don't normally order curry dishes but the waiter recommended this and I am so glad he did....it was fantastic. The sweet potatoes were rich and favorful served in a delicious peanut curry sauce. I ate until I couldn't physically fit another bit of food in my mouth. My hubby ordered the Red Pepper Curry with Chicken, per the waiters recommendation and this was also amazing. I was very impressed with this place and will definitely be returning! Oh, and the lychee martinis are to die for!

Overpriced, really bad service, and so noisy I could barely hear myself much less my dining companion. I can think of 10 thai places that do it better at far smaller price. I can't see how this place is so popular other than it has a cool interior. The only reason for 2 stars instead of 1 is the BYOB and the tempura was very good, even if they doused it with some crappy sauce.

I'm going to preface this with I was in the mood for a traditional beef lo mein but wanted to grab take out within walking distance. It is super close to my place and I've long appreciated their decor. PROS --They had my food ready quicker than the online order predicted so next time I will go pick it up earlier than advised. --They sent me a little survey a little bit ago, asking to rate my experience. I always appreciate being able to leave some feedback! --The vegetable tofu soup and paht siew were good. They were trendy new takes on the dishes. I probably won't order these again but it's possible they simply weren't my thing. --Very nice hostess and bartender greeted me and completed my transaction immediately. It was ready when I got there and they were friendly. -Pleasant and intimate dark decor, appropriate for a date. CONS --trendy but not amazing --a bit pricey for my tax bracket

went for take out twice. Pai Thai is good but Drunken Noodles is not that great compared to other Thai restuarants in the vincinity. The place looks nice and trendy

So I tried this place out for the first time and had a horrible experience. I ordered 2 orders of chicken pad Thai for delivery. I was told it would be 45 minutes to an hour. An hour and 20 minutes later the food finally shows up. When I open the bag, I find only one order of pad Thai there and it was cold. I called the delivery driver who asked me to call the restaurant back. I called back and the only thing they offered was to make me another one, but wait an additional 45 minutes or they could issue a credit. Not ideal options under the circumstances. I would not recommend this to anyone looking for Thai food in the area, and especially not delivered. Terrible customer service and mediocre food.

Cool decor. Good food. I'd recommend the massaman curry. We also shared the Woon Sen Paht Thai which was pretty good. We went with a large group and sat at the "Last Supper" looking table. We shared several delicious apps which all had interesting presentations compared to traditional styles: crab rangoon (small ball with twisted wrap), coconut shrimp (patty-like), dumplings/potsticker things (large, doughy), veggie wrap with a good peanut sauce.

Just ok. Service was not the best. Food was quite average. The hot and sour soup was the bright spot on the menu.

Let me preface this review by declaring my love for spicy food. Had Silom 12 deliver us some goods on Monday. Just got back from Brazil and NOT in the mood to cook, yet. To start we ordered the crab rangoon and crispy coconut shrimp. Both appetizers were on point! Although the presentation of the shrimp makes you hesitant to take the first bite, once you taste it - you'll devour it. For our main dish we ordered the drunken noodle and the chicken pad thai. Drunken noodle is one of my favorite Thai dishes but not from Silom 12. There is definitely heat, which I liked. The spices were good but there is a dryness to the dish that is not typical and makes the dish difficult to enjoy. My partner enjoyed his pad thai. I took a taste of it and it was much better than the drunken noodle. I will probably order from them again but will try another dish.

I love Thai food and this place ranks up with the best of them. For what they charge, you are definitely getting a great deal. The food is very affordable but the quality is amazing. It is a BYOB place as well and that also helps cut down on the bill. The staff is very accomodating. I went there for a last minute birthday dinner with a large group. They had no problem seating us in the main area. Everyone loved what they ordered. The place wasn't too noisy or loud but had a great energy and vibe to it. Once stand out dish that had people taken pictures was the pinneaple fried rice. Great presentation, even better tasting! For any Thai food lover, definitely add it your list of places to check out.

We ended up ordering from here by accident because our usual place was closed. We were pleasantly surprised and have gone back for more!! The pad see ew chicken is great and I order it medium spicy which they actually do pretty well. The crab fried rice is soooo good. Definitely recommend that. The crab rangoon are good but a weird shape and so there is a lot of the excess wonton that doesn't have the goodness with it. We have only had delivery and carry-out but the ambiance while waiting for carryout was good.

drunken noodles: SUPER spicy and yummy. like, may be too spicy for many people. panang nood: deeeeeelightful. i went with the drunken noodles, my BF went with the panang. panang was better ----- spicy but loaded with flavor. he struggled to get through the spice --- i happily aided him finishing up the dish. crab rangoons were also delish --- though i wish the serving was a little bigger. the only reason i'm giving it 3 stars instead of 4 was the delivery time. i ordered the meal at 7:40pm. received an email confirmation that it would take 30-45 minutes. now, i live close to the restaurant, but because it was a thursday night, i expected it to take at least 45 minutes, and was willing to give the restaurant up to an hour without complaints. at 8:45, just over an hour wait, i called. they assured me the food was on it's way (though sounding annoyed about my pesky calls), so i continued sippin' on my vodka soda and tried to wait patiently. at 9:15, i called again. same answer --- my food was allmooossstttt there, but for my inconvenience, they'd throw in a $10 coupon. nice gesture, truly appreciated. but when the food finally came about 10 minutes after that, there was no coupon, and the food wasn't hot. it's a good thing it was delicious.

I'm not a big fan of Thai food because in most places it's been Americanized, but I was pleasantly surprised. Silom 12 served the most authentic Thai i have ever had and it was great! The Silom salad was fresh with a wonderful dressing I got the soft shell crab and the curry sauce was delicious and authenic ask for rice bc the sauce will be strong The atmosphere has a 5 star feeling with a two $ price My kind of place! Can't wait to try other dishes

Ohmagosh I love this place SO much. A huge fan of Thai food but not so much the ambiance of most BYOB Thai places in Chicago, when I heard that Silom12 not only had great food but a stellar atmosphere to boot, I made a reservation right away. I went with 2 girlfriends when the spot was still BYOB so we carted along a few bottles of wine ($3 corkage fee) and were seated right away for our 8 pm res. Here's what I loved about this spot and why I will be back: Atmosphere: Trendy, great lighting, perfect for a casual dinner date or an occasion with friends... I love a place that is multi-purposed... Food: INCREDIBLE... SERIOUSLY. All three of us loved the food at this place. From the complimentary dried shrimp chips and chili sauce that they bring upon seating you to the Thai salad, summer rolls, Tilapia (MUST TRY THIS TILAPIA) and Panang curry that the 3 of us ordered to share, everything was served warm and was so flavorful. Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. Service: Our waiter was outstanding. So helpful, friendly, quick and knowledgeable. Price: Our whole bill for 2 appetizers and 2 entrees was $45 and that was more than enough food for 3 people. I thought the price was VERY reasonable. Everything about this place is awesome. I'm a little sad that it won't be BYOB anymore once they get their liquor license but maybe they'll keep the corkage fee and make it optional? Regardless, I'll definitely be back to this little Bucktown Thai gem!

What if you want ethnic asian cuisine but also want to sit in a pretty room while eating it? Come to Silom 12! The food is really good, better than the average Thai place around the corner, with nicer presentations. Finally, a place for delicious asian food (that is not Japanese) in a setting worthy of a weekend night! Woot!

I decided I must try this place due to the poor reviews of Brooke and jeremy. What the food was spicy??? They put tofu in your dish??? You think the absolutely disgusting thai food found at other WP/Bucktown places is good but did not like this place??? omg I thought did we get a REAL thai place in the hood?!?!!?! So I stopped by tonight and grabbed some take out. The food was DELICIOUS, nicely spiced, fresh and much better than the normal "thai" I am subjected to since leaving the west coast. They did however not provide me chop sticks in my take out bag. :( Update: Have been a few more times and each time the food has been fresh, beautifully presented and delicious.

Ate dinner here last night and had a great time. It is BYOB which is obviously a major plus. The decor is awesome. The menu had a great selection, pretty much something for everyone. We tried a few apps, both were very good. We both had the Chilean sea bass, while I was on the fence about it, my bf LOVED it. Also we had a desert that was recomm. by our server, unfortunately I don't remember what it was called but it was fantastic!! It started with a K..... The service was wonderful as well. I will def. be back, my only recommendation is don't order seafood if you don't like things too fishy. The fish was a little much for me, but there are plenty of other options. Tip: Pick up some wine at Red & White right across the street. The place is super cute and the staff is super friendly and helpful. They have some expensive items but will gladly help you find something within your budget!

I really couldn't decide between 1 or 2 stars and I don't like giving 1 star or negative reviews in general. That said, the only reasons I opted for two stars are because Silom 12 has a nice clean atmosphere, easy street parking and the server who waited on me with my carry out was very friendly. The food on the other hand was just awful for me. The first red flag? I got into my car with my carry out and not a minute passed before I thought - WHAT is that SMELL? It should be noted that I live 2 minutes from the restaurant so the following can not be blamed on too much time between pick up and dine. I ordered Pad Thai and their spring roll which on the menu is called Por Pia Sod. Por Pia Sod: They serve what is a typical spring roll and pile what seems like canned crap.. errrr.. I mean crab meat on top. This was the source of the unpleasant aroma. If I walked into a sushi restaurant or fish monger and smelled this odiferous scent I would exit stage left immediately. I noticed a piece of spring roll that wasn't covered with the "jumbo lump crab meat" so I tasted it - still very fishy and not much to the inside. The plum sauce seemed off too -overwhelming. I couldn't eat any more than one bite. Pad Thai w/ Tofu + side of peanut sauce: I LOVE peanut sauce and have had it at many o' Thai establishments. This was by far the worst I've ever had. It was scary looking. The oil had separated and gathered on the sides it was lumpy and congealed. The texture even after heating up (it was cold) and stirring didn't improve - it got worse. So much for that. It didn't get better with the Pad Thai. They use thin glass noodles which were so stuck together and chewy that each time I tried to pick some up with my chopsticks the entire mass came up together in a solid block. Not appetizing. The tofu was sparse and flavorless. I didn't find one sprout, no cabbage or lime. Just one big green onion. They ask if you want egg - I said yes. Typically they are scrambled but here I found what looked like a left over piece of a very fried egg. WT H, E, double chopsticks? What a waste. So bad that if I had dined in I would have sent it all back. I ended up throwing it all away. It's a real bummer too because it's so close to home and we are really lacking great Thai places in the city unless you count a more of a fine dining option such as Arun's. But alas, sometimes a girl just wants some good Thai carry out! Summary: Not so much.

Great new addition to the hood. Been here a couple times now and its been solid both times. Some of my favorites are the crispy noodles, pad thai, spring rolls, crunchy rolls and of course the complimentary shrimp fried crisps...

What a Thai gem in the neighborhood! They serve up elegant contemporary (i.e. overpriced) Thai dishes which are delicious. You gotta love the heat to come here and enjoy the ambience. Try their Surawong (mixed berry + banana) smoothie!

The West side is pretty much no-man's land for decent Thai food. Until we ordered from Silom 12. The food arrived quickly, the portions were good and most importantly it tasted awesome. That's all I could ever ask for. Keep up the good work guys!

I was really excited about this place after peeking at the menu on their website. Based on their more accurate phonetic spelling of their PAHT dishes (instead of spelling it "PAD" as in a I need a maxi PAD) and LAHT instead of LARD, I had a feeling that these peeps knew what's up. First, I will start by saying that their presentation is great. We ordered delivery and they still bothered to decorate the dishes and garnish them. The portions are very generous for a Thai place. We ordered a couple apps and 2 noodle dishes. I have a couple staples that I order to judge a Thai place: paht thai, paht siew, and chicken satay. Let's just say I usually end up disappointed, but not this time! I would have to say that Silom 12 has THE MOST AUTHENTIC PAHT THAI. I grew up eating paht thai with both tofu and meat. So, I'm not sure what Brooke F is talking about. I'm going to go ahead and assume she's not SE Asian. The noodles in the paht thai were cooked almost perfectly. In other Thai places I've been to in Chicago the noodles are usually: too wide, too mushy, too bland, and especially too white! Paht thai should have a nice caramelly color and should be a tad bit sweet and a tad bit tangy (from the tamarind)--Silom 12 accomplished this! The Paht Siew was also very authentic. They prepared it just like my dad--with bean sprout and chinese broccoli, The taste was perfect, most places are really greasy and sweet or they use just regular broccoli. Chicken Satay was awesome. They use nice cuts of chicken tenders, whereas I've been to many places that try to skimp and give you paper thin sheets of chicken on skewers. We also order the Crab Rangoons, which were really cute. They formed them into really pretty little pouches and used a thinner spring roll wrapper instead of wonton skin which made them nice and light and not greasy at all. They were also nice enough to prepare jalepenos in vinegar for me--not a huge task, but nice that they accommodated my request. My only complaint would be I think the pieces of meat in the noodle dishes could probably be cut a little smaller so that it would be easier to eat for people that don't scarf down their food. I'll be back to try their entrees. They look pretty tasty!

WOW. I rarely write restaurant reviews unless I have dined at the establishment at least two times, but I will gladly make an exception for Silom 12. What a gem! Ambiance is welcoming and warm, music a fun and foxy electroinca that is, blessedly, NOT TOO LOUD, hostess smiley and friendly, menu glossy and easy to read, a TON of vegetarian options, and prices were very reasonable for the sexy, high-end experience. The meal itself was absolutely stellar, from the quick delivery to the lovely plating to the freshness of the flavor. I had vegetarian summer wraps which were mellow and easy, and the chicken hot and sour soup which had plenty of smokey sparkle and tasty texture. The crab rangoon was light and silky, not greasy or heavy at all, and the chicken paht thai was a perfect dinner portion. Love it, want more, will be back!

Service is really wonderful here. The waiter was sweet and attentive. We never felt rushed. We ordered 3 appetizers which were all fresh and prepared with care. Main course wise, my drunken noodles were a little underwhelming but my parents both ordered entrees that were really excellent. I don't eat veal but the sauce on the bamboo shoot portion of the Osso Bucco was amazing. I'd say stick with the entrees or the curries and the appetizers are worth a try. Perhaps make a reservation?... for some reason the hostess seemed put off that we didn't make a reservation... it was 5pm on a Saturday, the place at half capacity... go figure. Very reasonable, good, highly flavored food served by a lovely wait-staff.

Loved this restaurant! Just discovered it last Wednesday because it is really close to my office. The place is spotless, really well decorated, modern and minimalistic. The service is as good as an Asian server gets and the food was just amazing!! They start you with complimentary shrimp crisps which are amazing. I had the chicken basil stir fry and it was delicious. My friends dishes were super tasty as well. The location is great and the server told us that this place just opened about 3 weeks ago. I really hope the stay in business a long time. Also, they are BYOB!!! = ) I am absolutely going back and highly recommend it!!

Let down..... I was really disappointed with the service and food. As I walked in, the ambiance was so nice, I thought for sure, everything else would follow suit. Unfortunately, my fish, my friend's glass noodles, and both of my girlfriends curry's were less than mediocre. The woman who waited on us, brought our bill before we were done and we thought they needed the table...when we asked another manager that came by, it seemed that they had 4 extra tables and no one else waiting for our seats(so what's the rush!!!??) I've had more authentic thai food and the experience is better and the food is cheaper. I would say, unless you really want a modern Thai atmosphere, there's no reason to choose this eatery over any of the Ma and Pa Thai restaurants out there.

I can see why there might be mixed reviews of this place. I do know good Thai food having been to Thaiand a few times and being a foodie. I saw the review in Chicago Magazine and they noted the unusual fried green papaya salad. I had never heard of such a thing. I got that salad and it was pretty creative, a bit large for one person, I left some on the plate and thought should I next check the authenticity with the Phat (Pad) Thai or should I try the chefs selection? I opted for the Osso Bucco in green curry on the Chef's Specials and Wow! The green curry was awesome! The meat perfection. Again huge portion! I ate myself silly. Then I. Got it! Here is a quality chef, who want's to put his take on Thai taste to a new level! This creative approach might not be for everyone, but it sure it sure did work for me! If you want orange beef, or basil chicken you might want to go somewhere else, if you want to branch out and "Thai something NEW," try the chef selections HERE!

I was looking for some pad see ew and Silom 12 did not disappoint! I ordered takeout and arrived a few minutes before my order was ready. The man at the front greeted me and offered me a seat and glass of water - very friendly and a pleasant surprise on a cold night. Parking was easy, the food was hot and tasty, and I will definitely order again!

Everyone, when you walk into a restaurant, and there is a group of 8 womenfolk looking like they are having a good time, RUN the other way! I meant no disrespect to anyone who is female. I'm just saying... A complimentary basket of shrimp crackers with nam prik pao opens the meal. This is a nice amuse, and certainly not common at most Thai restaurants here. Nam prik pao is a condiment made with hot chilies, palm sugar, shrimp paste, and fish sauce. Here, it is milder than most I've had, which is just perfect as a foil to the crunchy crackers. Hmmm, another idea for chip & dip variation I can try at home. Score 1 for Silom 12. For apps, we had Chicken Sate with toasted white bread, cucumber salad, and peanut sauce. It was a very traditional satay, nothing worth noting about. The peanut sauce was on the thick side, and worked really well with the chicken. The bread, triangles of toasted wonder bread, seemed to be in the 'let's-put-a-twist-to-this' vein. It didn't add anything more to the dish. We also had the Summer Wraps with steamed rice paper, shrimp, egg noodles, lettuce, tofu, carrot, cucumber, and peanut sauce. A solid, nicely wrapped roll. Good, but again, not outstanding. I question using the same peanut sauce. Since it is thick, it was very hard dipping the roll in it. For mains, Osso Buco with braised veal shank, mushroom, young chili pepper, green curry, and jasmine rice. A bit strange calling this osso buco. The meat had a nice texture. The sauce was flavorful, and packed a subtle, lingering heat. Also, Mee Krob Laht Nar, with crispy egg noodles, chicken, shrimp, veggies, and black bean gravy. I like the use of egg noodles. It gave the noodle nest a different dimension in flavor, compared to usually tasteless rice noodles. So now, the ambience. I have very sentimental attachments to Café Matou, the former occupant of this space. I was really excited to check out this new place. The interior is nice, modern without being too sleek. The dishes were well presented. They are clearly aiming to be a notch above neighborhood Thai restaurants. The layout of the dining room though is a big issue. 2-tops, 4-tops, and booths are all along the perimeter of the room. In the center, a gigantic bar-height communal table that seats 16. So there was a group of 8 women at one end of this table. It was clearly someone's birthday. All night, all one could hear were the shrill voices emanating from the middle of the room. That, plus music, and the din of a packed dining room, made it unbearable. Pity the 2 couples sharing the same communal table. Their eyes were all rolling all night. Why 2 stars? Nice décor. Average food. Terrible ambience when there are big parties. I can see how this place will be attractive to bigger groups. It's a party place with modest prices.

This place is great, my review is mostly based on the Tom Yum soup. I have been to Thailand and had many Tom Yum soups and this is the best I have ever had. The Pad Thai is so so, but I find that it is much different in the states than in Thailand. We have had a couple other dishes and they have all been great including the fresh spring rolls, I just wish the sauce was a little more spicy. I add hot sauce to mine. Best Thai food we have found in the area since moving here 7 months ago. Also delivery is super fast and food is always hot and delicious.

Excellent new Thai restaurant. Food was very good and well presented...atmosphere was cool and clean...and above all, the service was perfect. After eating a lot of mass produced food from the conference in Boston, I was happy to be back in the Chi eating comfort food. I didn't get to eat inside, but I did come in to pick up my food. The interior looks pretty slick and modern. The receptionist seemed friendly. I got the summer wrap, chicken paht thai, and beef pad see ew. The summer wrap was different because it had more of peanut satay flavored dip. The paht thai and the pad see ew were pretty good for flavor. The prices are just a tad higher than other thai spots for me. $9 was a bit high for the pad se ew. I think it makes it a contender for one of the better Thai spots for the area in Bucktown/Wicker Park.

Not good, not good at all. My dish was just terrible: the green beans looked like they were out of a can. And yet the shrimp managed to be tough and rubbery. It was seriously bad. If you look at my history of reviews, I normally only take the time to post rave reviews on yelp. My husband's dish was better. Although it did look like ramen noodles. I liked the crab meat rangoon. Unfortunately, my stomach really hurt after the meal. Again, I'm not the kind of person that enjoys writing a bad review. :(

Authentic Thai food in Bucktown!! Excellent service and great food! To have this level of quality all round and they've only been opened two weeks is impressive. I'm hoping these guys will be around for a long time to come. I'm can't wait for my next big hangover so I order wicked yummy thai from them to get me through the #%&*^!!

Very nice, really enjoyed the food and decor. It was a nice excuse to get me in Red & White and the shrimp red pepper curry was excellent. i love Thai and I think this is a great option, as well as a great value. We ordered two appetizers, two entrees, and a salad, our bill was only 45.00! Service was attentive and extremely polite/ attentive (but not in a annoying way). I wish them much luck and am glad to see another great place to go in Bucktown.

Went here last weekend and really enjoyed it. The vibe and atmosphere were great - very modern which you wouldn't expect from a Thai place. We started with the summer rolls and the Gui Chai, both were delish, especially the Gui Chai. The food had a really good spice and was really tasty. I was disappointed that they didn't have pork on the menu - I usually like to get my noodles with pork. But once the food arrived I didn't miss it. I'm no aficionado on Thai food but no stranger to it either. I'm sure there are places in the city that are just as good or better but for the money, the location, the service, and the fact that is BYOB we loved it. Look forward to going back!

Good Thai food in Bucktown - finally! Love Thai? Don't want to schlep up to Andersonville? Here is your solution. Enjoy it! Been there a few times - with friends and with family (including 2.5 yr. child), we had a great time. BYOB.

This place is OK I guess. We've all had way better Thai in Chicago so I'll spare the lecture and my aging yupster bullshit. Bottom line here...reasonably nice interior design translates into high prices, lackluster service and entirely generic food. No flavor, no balance. The highlight of the meal was the Crab Rangoon. The only thing I liked about my dish (Garlic Chicken) was that it was served "fresh," aka hot. That's pretty much it and not saying much. My friend's green curry was the same - just sort of soulless. If you live in Bucktown and need a place to take your Girlfriend / Boyfriend's Midwestern semi-adventurous parents this is a good choice.

I had to right a review because these people that are ordering take out are ruining the rating! Eat-In!!!! This is the best Thai restaurant in Bucktown. Me and my date had summer(spring) rolls and peanut sauce as a starter. Simple and fresh. The peanut dipping sauce was served warm which was a surprise. For our main course I had the red pepper curry with tofu. This is a dish that held up to the standards of other amazing Thai food restaurants. Simple easy and fairly priced. My date had some crispy pork(not sure of exact name) served with a garlic basil sauce. Again delicious. Our dessert was interesting. I would say it was my favorite. It was a green jelly like substance with sweet corn in it and coconut shavings and some white sauce on top. Odd but yummy. I think this is a thai restaurant that you need to go into. The place looks amazing too. BYOB

Most restaurants try to rush you out on busy Friday and Saturday nites. Not this place. We could have sat there for hours and no one would have noticed (and I don't mean that in a good way). We had a reservation for 5 ppl at 7pm on a Sat evening. Even though our full party wasn't there right at 7 (its against the law for some to arrive on time I suppose), those of us who were there were never given water or menus or anything. We weren't even really sure who our waiter was. Finally everyone is there and the waiter asks for our order - but how can we order when we don't even have menus? We get menus, they open our wine and actually get some water too. I was never so happy to see a glass of water in my life. We eventually ordered some appetizers and waited...and waited... They brought one out but no mention of the others. We had to flag down the waiter to confirm he even ordered it. Finally it arrives. We had to flag him down again to take our order (you'd think they'd want to do this all at once - we know we did). Flag him down to open the next bottle of wine (you see a trend here). Again...more waiting. C'mon - its thai food - isnt everything mostly already cooked just waiting to be assembled??? I can order delivery quicker than this. Food finally arrives (its now something like 8:45/9pm - and our reservation was for 7pm) but only for half the table. No one communicates where the other dinners are. We wait, and wait, and wait. Someone had to get up to ask where the rest of the food was. The food was decent - once it got to us. Good spices on the drunken noodles that I ordered. Everyone seemed pleased with the quality of their dinners. Another long wait for the check (we asked for it when they brought the remaining dinner plates b/c we knew it would take forever). Wait to pick up the check. Wait to get change. That was the theme of the whole dinner experience - wait. All told we left around 9:45/10pm. A 3-hour thai dinner?? Unheard of. Usually its the other extreme - thinking of places like Butterfly - that want to get you out of there as quickly as possible to turn the table. Where wait staff perch like gargoyles waiting for you to take the last bite of your food before its swept away and that check is laid down. All in all - the food was decent - but nothing amazing or surprising. And usually I'm willing to give all sorts of love to BYOB places. What killed this place IMO was the waiting for everything and overall lack of organization of the serving staff. If I lived in the n'hood I might give it another shot - but since I don't - I don't see myself coming back.

Finally, some decent Thai food in the Bucktown/Wicker Park/Logan Square area. I've tried pretty much every single Thai restaurant in the area and always decide "never again." This was my first time at Silom 12 and so far, so good. We ordered the crispy tofu salad and although it was a tad too sweet, it was still delicious. We also ordered the panang tofu and basil fried rice with tofu. Both pretty solid. After the meal, we were getting ready to go when the waiter asked us if we wanted to order some dessert. Most Thai restaurants offer either Thai custard or green tea ice cream, so we said no. Luckily, we took a look at the menu and saw they had roti, which I'd never seen on a menu in Chicago before. It's dough fried with butter, sugar, and condensed milk with a side of bananas and vanilla ice cream (okay, so it's been Americanized, but a comforting reminder of Thailand nevertheless). Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.

After wandring aimlessly through Bucktown and Wicker Park in attempts to avoid the bedazzled drunkards of St. Patty's Day, we stumbled upon Silom 12. We were famished and dehydrated but the classy, modern decor was not lost on us in our delerium. We were promptly seated near the front of the restaurant and enjoyed their floor to ceiling windows that opened to the street. The service was prompt and incredibly attentive. Immediately, one of our many servers for the evening brought us an amuse bouche of some kind of puffed creation with delicious and mysterious dipping sauce. We sampled their tofu spring rolls which were fresh and tasty. Silom 12 also has a great cocktail/wine array. Try the Ginger Tea and Vodka! For dinner, we were delighted by our drunken tofu noodles and crispy duck with asparagus and wild mushrooms. The duck was fantastic! Prices are extremely reasonable; in fact, we were suprised when our check arrived. Silom 12 is on par with my favorite Thai restaurant in New York. It's deliciously modern without being pretentious. I would highly recommend a visit. It was a great find after escaping the hub-bub of Chicago's Irish mardi-gras.

I eat Thai probably more than any other cuisine because besides pizza, it is probably the only 'type' of food that is diverse enough to be craved forever and always. My mom and sister were in town from Peoria and wanted to try "something we can't get at home" which did not narrow down the list so I instinctively chose Thai and decided on Silom 12 since I've been by it so many times. It's very cute and clean feeling on the inside (has that sterile Ikea vibe to it but not so much to make it uncomfortable or unwelcoming). Also, I love that it's still BYOB because it's so much cheaper that way. The Summer Rolls were a perfect starter-- very light and fresh and served with a tasty peanut sauce. I ordered the Panang Curry (which would rank in my top three in the city-- wish it would have had a tiny bit more spice. I get that panang is always somewhat sweet, but I like a bite to it), my mom ordered the Pad Thai, and my sister had the shrimp stirfry. All three were good portions and agreeable dishes. The service was also outstanding and I would definitely go back with friends and equipped with a few bottles of wine.

How can you go wrong with choosing this place!? 5 stars for the service and for the food...they have an ample selection of veggie dishes and are very courteous. The best thing is that they are also BYOB! I highly recommend this place if you want to to have a great meal with cheap prices!

Really impressed with this place. The menu is far more creative than most of the other Thai places in the area, which was something I did not expect before entering. The dining room is modern and has a fun vibe, and is a great place to sit in nice weather with the front wall of windows open. Very reasonably priced for what it is--more expensive than some of the very cheap, BYOB Thai places around, but Silom 12 is definitely a more upscale dining experience. Portions are quite large, flavors are bold but still balanced, and the service was good. Not hard to get in and out of here for $40-50 for two people with drinks.

On a Friday night, the boyfriend and I were feeling lazy and wanted to catch our favorite shows on TV that night, so we walked into Silom 12 around 6:30. The menu looked pretty good, and I had a tough time choosing, but we ended up sharing an appetizer and an entree, because we weren't sure how big the portions were. They're not huge, but we ended up with a light meal. The crispy coconut shrimp was indeed crispy, but not coconutty, shrimpy, or anything else really. It was bland and kind of a waste of 8 bucks. The duck delight, one of the Chef's specialties, was very pretty, but equally bland and certainly not delightful. We were a little hungry still, so we ordered the pineapple fried rice. It was served in a hollowed out half pineapple. Striking and unique, definitely. Bland? Oh yes, not that interesting. If there weren't pineapple chucks in it, it would have been very very boring indeed. My boyfriend says he'll never go back, but I like to try things at least 3 times. I want to give their noodles a shot, and maybe even their curries. But, hell, anyone can make a good curry.

Amazing food! Amazing service! Owner is a nice guy. High recommend the Pad Thai. The soup is good, and try the ginger brew.

People, $10 corking fee. The problem is not only the cost, but also the surprise-- if you see me come in with a bottle of wine let me know you're charging me an extra $10 to drink my $10 wine. Food is O.K. -- nothing to rave or complain about.

Great food for a decent price. Portions are not huge but satisfying (just no extra to take home). Had the Beef rice noodle, massaman curry, green curry, basil chicken, all were great and did not disappoint! Modern decor with bar and large dining area. Open later a plus!

The best Thai food I've had in a long time. Food was fresh and very delicious. I had the Summer Rolls, the Crispy Calamari Salad, and the Cashew Stir fry. The staff was very attentive and the food was hot when it arrived on the table. I will eat here again and I would definitely order these items again.

I really enjoyed my meal from Silom. I had the basil chicken and it had great flavor and an ample amount of both meat and veggies. The red peppers were crunchy and flavorful. My sister had the pad thai and it was evident that the extra dollar or two this place charged was well spent. The quality of Silom is better than your average joe Thai joint.

We live right around the corner and we love getting take-out from this place because it is amazing. I love the simple spicy pad thai and my girlfriend loves the red curry (not on the menu but they have it).

Solid Thai food! I went here on a very casual date and have to say I may have found my new Thai place. I am a Thai curry fanatic and this place definitely gets my approval as far as their curry. The decor inside was very modern and hip, but since the weather was gorgeous we decided to take the opportunity to sit outside. The outside area was nice, however, since the chairs are made of metal I highly suggest checking to make sure there's nothing sharp poking out (it's just a good practice, I've been pricked by so many damn cheap metal outdoor chairs in the past). The service was pretty good. They were friendly, and were more then happy to add some pineapple and tomatoes to my Red Pepper Curry (try it if you're a pineapple fan, you'll love it). I will definitely be back to this place again.

Upscale Thai without upscale prices. My husband, dad and I went here the other night and really enjoyed ourselves (or we really enjoyed ourselves once the gaggle of screaming babies left - seriously people, get takeout). The space itself is sleek and modern and sets the stage for some pretty delicious food. The complimentary shrimp chip basket was a nice touch to start off the night. We split the crab rangoon and coconut shrimp appetizers to start. The crab rangoon were good (not the best) but good and I enjoyed the light wonton wrapper shell as opposed to some that are pretty thick and greasy. The coconut shrimp is not at all what was expected but was very good. Instead of individual shrimp coated in coconut, these were patties comprised of chunks of shrimp, water chestnuts and some other things that escape me, coated in a coconut crust. As we are all indecisive, we decided to split three entrees - the duck delight, drunken noodles with beef, and shrimp panang curry. Drunken noodles are generally my go-to dish at Thai restaurants and I rarely order them with beef because it usually comes with hunks of dry, overcooked meat that I end up not eating. Here, the beef was tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. This dish, while simple, was a standout. The duck delight was excellent as well. The duck breast was deep fried, so it was crispy and served with a fresh mix of asparagus, shrimp and mushrooms. Unexpected on a Thai menu but well executed. The panang curry was also very good and came with a surprising amount of shrimp. I liked the option to order brown rice, however, the rice portions were uncharacteristically small (especially compared to the size of the entrees). I know times are tough but rice costs what, like .12 cents for a bucketful? That's my only minor complaint otherwise, I thought it was a refreshing change to see Thai done in a fancier way than you usually see at your neighborhood takeout place.

A mixed bag here. Crab rangoon, panag noodles, curry, all very good. But several apps and entrees are less than mediocre. Overall, a little expensive compare to other thai places -- but if you order the right dishes, it's worth it.

OK, it's Labor Day, but we were ready to order drinks & lunch. 1 server brought 2 glasses of water & then chatted up the 1 customer inside & the bartender. Never came by once in 15 min, even with menus or place settings. bye!

This is my favorite Thai delivery in the city, and it just happens to be right in my neighborhood. Original dishes, with some options that you don't find at your typical Thai restaurant. They do great things with mussels, case in point, coconut milk, shallot, and lime leaf broth with mussels, as well as a mussel omelette with a spicy siracha sauce over bean sprouts. There is a great eggplant dish with basil, bell peppers, and a tangy sauce. The appetizers are excellent, my favorite being a large coconut fried ball of shrimp with a sweet chili sauce. They make awesome cocktails too, like lychee mojitos. Creative dishes done the right way, got to like that. The only dish I wouldn't recommend is the duck delight. I don't know what they were thinking with that one, but I don't fault them. Still an awesome place.

I lot of people talk about the decor at this place, but I mostly do take-out, and I do it regularly because this is absolutely the best Thai I've can find in a 20 block radius. The tuna tataki appetizer is always perfect. always seared to perfection. I haven't done a whole lot of the menu, but what I have done is some of the best Thai in the city...super fresh and delicious. The staff is also great...friendly and helpful.

We had a large party of 17 people for dinner. They took our reservation happily, but when we arrived there was a 20 minute wait. We were finally seated but totally jammed in to just three four tops pushed up against a wall on one side. It was very uncomfortable, and it made it impossible for anyone on one side of the table to get up to use the restroom. The waiter finally came around 45 minutes after being seated to take our order. Another hour passed before the food came out. Granted we had a large party, but this is pretty much inexcusable. I was sitting on the "booth" side of the table, and it was more church pew than booth. My legs were falling asleep due to the blood being cut off. Also it felt like 85 degrees in there and I was perspiring (and feeling faint -- probably due to not being served dinner until 9:45 pm!). The food was pretty good (although when they say "spicy" they mean it!), and very cheaply priced for such a hip looking place. It is BYOB and you can't beat that. But all in all I have to give it two stars. They may have been understaffed, but they just shouldn't take such large reservations if they can't handle them. It may be different for just 2 or 4 people, but our experience was poor, overall -- and I can't say I'll be rushing back.
