Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I have had Sano's pizza about 5 times now, i don't know where to begin. First off, I'm a pizza fanatic & connoisseur! I've eaten pizza in many places-to name a few, Brooklyn NY, Roberta's (amazing) Manhattan NY, Lombardi's(amazing) Burt's Place Morton Grove IL(Amazing-only pizza joint to be on the cover of Saveur magazine!) And then the usual suspects in Chicago - Great Lakes, Pequods, Lou Malnati's, Pizzeria Due, etc... Okay, you guess it, I love pizza! IMO Sano's is the best neighborhood pizza I ever had. Chicago's Pizza so-so, Marie's is good, but really greasy. if your really drunk and want to sober up, get a pizza from Marie's. La villa and Art of pizza also good, but not as good as Sano's. The crust is not doughy, it's not paper thin either. The pizza sauce is not salty but also is not sweet, the sauce has a nice balance of salt, sweetness and Italian herbs. The topping's I usually get are, pepperoni and sausage. Which always taste fresh and delicious. Delivery has been right on time and my pizza is hot right out of the oven. Enough jabbering about how much I love pizza, I still have a few pieces left from Sano's, time to eat!

Pizza done right and friendly staff. Will be ordering again. This place isn't fancy, which is what makes it is oh so Chicago. No yuppies, no unnecessary ingredients, just good, greasy, delicious pizza that will put a smile on your face. The staff couldn't be nicer. My husband ordered a huge pizza for game night, and after hanging up the phone lady actually called us back saying she forgot there was a special on the pizza we ordered and gave us the discount. Who does that?! They do. Try this place!

Havent had this pizza in a while but I remember that it was awesome.

This restaurant is so small you will probably miss it unless you're paying attention. on that note, trust me when I say it's worth it to pay attention! The pizza is consistently good, and I have yet to find a place that does a bacon/black olive pizza better. Also, the homemade meatballs are incredible and a worthy addition to the pasta of your choice or on a sandwich smothered in cheese. The owner and delivery guys are always nice, and this family-owned joint is really a place well worth stopping in and checking out.

Very low key place. If you're driving past you gotta keep your eye out for it. Really good pizza for cheap.

We moved into the neighborhood 3 years ago and ordered Sano's for our first meal. Frank (the owner) and the rest of the staff are very friendly. It feels like its been there for decades (and it has). The food is excellent, but try the pizza first. We like their pan, but the thin-crust is awesome. The sauce makes the pizza.

Just moved into the neighborhood and we were looking for pizza. I looked here on yelp and decided to gicve Sano's a try based on the reviews here on Yelp. We were not disapointed at all. The pizza is wonderful, the crust delicious. The fried shrimp were big and very tasty. Delivery was quick and the order was correct. I am very happy with Sano's. I just wish the menu was bigger.

Love this pizza place!!! They are right down the street from me and make amazing pizza. Everything is fresh and you honestly get what you pay for! Tons of cheese fresh cut peppers and onions and damn good Italian sausage pizza. Love thats it's an old school Chicago place too on the inside and family owned. My go to pizza place now!!!
(5)Mallory S.
This place has such incredible pizza. The cheese is thick and creamy. I think it's the best cheese I've ever had on pizza! The veggies and pepperoni tasted so fresh but the sausage is INSANELY good. The veggies had good crunch which balances the gooey cheese. The pie was coming out of the oven as I picked it up. I love how this is a mom and pop shop and not a chain. Also, for ordering 2 medium pies I got a free liter of RC. I will definitely return! Fyi there's a $10 minimum on credit cards.
(4)Tanatorn A.
I used to live across the street from this place, and there was another pizza shop close by this one. Sanos by far is the one of the best pizza places ive ever had, great mom and pops place! Since moving away I still come back just got the pizza!
(5)Margaret M.
The pizza is amazing, and the meatball sub is the best I've had in the city..it's my go-to at this point. I stay in and eat sometimes; the service is great..and I love the feel of the restraunt. Very homey, all about the food and conversation at the dinner table, but we have to talk over the TV that's on in the living room. It's perfect.
(5)Sara D.
This place has gotten better over the years. They've finally perfected my pasta order. As far as the pizza it isn't out of this world, yet it isn't very mediocre either.
(4)Elise C.
If you like cheese, this is the place to be! Ordered a small, stuffed deep dish to go and there's at least a pound and a half of cheese in it. It's tough to find the other ingredients, but when we did, they were pretty good. Open late, really nice service and a free liter of RC Cola with this purchase! We probably won't go back, but it was a good try.
(3)Bella V.
Best pizza in town. They will make the pizza to your likes. Very clean and very nice people.
(5)Mary H.
This is the most delicious pizza. The owner is very friendly and the pizza is tasty every time. Food is ready on time as promised. This is real Chicago style pizza. The lasagna is home made and delicious. I highly recommend Sano's to everyone. I usually pick up, but when I have had delivery the drivers are on time and very professional. Super!
(5)Sean Q.
Amazing Pizza!
(5)K J.
We ordered from here for the first time on valentines day. The ordering process was easy and delivery driver was efficient and kind. Pizza crust is a matter of opinion, Sanos was too thick for me. I like a thin, crispy cracker like crust. Sanos is more of the thickness of cardboard, slightly chewy. Ingredients were fresh and delivery was hot. Just not my style.
(3)Adrian T.
Pass by this place all the time and finally decided to check it out and order on a snowy Saturday night. Got a medium, thin crust, sausage pizza and the girlfriend got a small pepperoni and mushroom, no cheese (allergies) pizza. Both were pretty good and the prices were very reasonable. Will order again and try out other toppings. Glad to have finally checked it out!
(4)Christopher G.
Good ole traditional Italian pie. plenty of oohy goofy cheese. Good pepperoni and sausage. Can't go wrong here...
(4)Nae F.
The thin crust was super good.

Where to eat on a Friday night at 10pm? Bringing out my handy dandy Yelp app we found Sano's and they have Italian beef pizza, who can say no to Italian beef? My cousin and I were at the point of fainting due to hunger and as soon as we heard Italian beef say no more. We venture over to this little spot on the corner of Elston and Lawrence. At first we were going to do pizza slices since we were so hungry, but they only had cheese and pepperoni available so we opted for a medium Italian beef pizza with a side of giardiniera and an order of fries. The fries were freshly fried and it was scorching hot we ate every bite and as the pizza knew we were waiting it came out as soon as our waitress removed our empty fries basket and place the ol' so scrumptious pizza in front of us. Thin crust with a good portion of cheese, sauce, and Italian beef. Perfection never looked better. With an ice cold Arizona ice tea and Italian beef pizza we couldn't ask for a better combo. Our waitress was very tentatively and extremely friendly. Great service and food! Only $20 for fries, 2 drinks, and a medium pizza!

I typically do not put reviews out there to often on yelp, but after having Sano's thin crust pizza (Large Pepperoni and Black olives well done)I had to write one. I'm a huge pizza guy and have lived on the Northwest Side my whole life. For whatever reason I've never heard of Sano's before I read some reviews on yelp and decided to give them a try. Best decision ever, this pizza was so good. One of the best crust's I've ever had, both crispy and chewy, sauce was great, ingredients were fresh, and love it when pizza places put a little corn meal on the bottom of the crust, rather than using dry flour. It was my first time ordering, so I'm not sure how they normally do it, but I requested they put the pepperoni on top of the cheese (I prefer it crispy) and that's exactly what they did. Lady who took the order was very nice, didn't get that typical feeling of being rushed when ordering, and pizza arrived in about 45 minutes. Can't say enough about how good their pie was. It immediately jumped to the top of my top 5 for thin crust. 1. Sano's 2. Pete's #2 on Montrose 3. La Villa 4. Porretta's 5. Barnaby's If anyone out there want's to give them a try I highly recommend it. I wouldn't put to much stock in the few bad reviews they got, seems they were for people buying by the slice and everyone knows the best way to eat pizza is fresh out the oven. No pizza is going to be that great if you buy a slice from a pie that has been sitting in a warming box for hours.
(5)Michael H.
This is definitely a lost art in Chicago/ An Italian Guy in a window with a Fauld's Oven making pizza's from scratch!! Definitely the best thin crust pizza that I've had in Chicago by a longshot. All Ingredients are fresh and the sauce is near perfection! Definitely try the "Homemade Sausage"/ Only drawback is that it's a tad on the expensive side, you get what you pay for! Also you get a free liter of RC Cola to complete the true old school feel... GTFJD
(5)Jacob J.
The diner is a blast from the past. For a cheap, quick slice, it's quite alright. Nothing memorable but a good filler. Most memorable are the characters that eat here and those young kids hanging around outside trying to coerce you to buy them beer. Keywords: Pizza. Slices. Cheap slices. Late night slice.
(3)Jeff G.
Have only gotten carry out from there once, just this week. thin crust sausage and green pepper was good, fresh ingredients and they make home made dough, though i don't think there crust is all that or has much taste, thus no four star rating. we'll be back though
(3)Jennifer P.
Simply stated, they are way overpriced, I paid almost $20 for a medium pizza that was barely enough to feed two people. The delivery guy simply takes a tip from you when the person on the phone doesn't say anything about it. The pizza was good, but after paying too much for it I a will definitely not return. Dominos will give you twice the amount of food for the same cost. I am a pizza snob too, but I'd slum it with Dominos over this place any day. For that amount I can eat for a couple days on Dominos.
(3)Ben W.
After the raving reviews I was excited to try this place out. If I had gotten a plain cheese pizza, I would have given 4 stars. The sauce was good and so was the crust. The cheese was decent, but nothing to write home about. This pizza could be great. Then came the toppings. Bland and flavorless. They tasted very old and were all clearly canned or frozen. I won't be going back. Sano's... we could have had something special. Sigh.
(2)Rachael M.
Totally decent thin crust pizza. Wish they had a website or a menu online.
(4)Kathy S.
Sano's Pizza at Lawrence and Elston Aves. Is the BEST local pizzeria!!! PERIOD!!!!! We used to be loyal Marie's customers until after the old man died. Whoever is now in charge has made fundamental cuts in flavor and quality. We will never go back there. Frank's Sano's Pizza has a great thin crust and a mildly spicy sauce and a perfect sauce to cheese ratio. We now love their pizza and will be loyal customers until they mess with flavor and quality.
(5)Sheeba J.
If I could give negative stars I would. I just got a slice and it tasted like it a frozen pizza that you buy from grocery store. Disgusting. Too much cheese. Not enough sauce. The crust was ok at best.
(1)Ken L.
Yay for Yelp- I just my new pizza place for delivery. Hot, tasty and a good deal. I'm planning to work my way thru their menu this summer.
(4)Melissa M.
This is my favorite thin crust neighborhood pizza place. The pizza's are small, but cheap. Hubby and I can polish off an entire large pizza. The crust is so crispy and consistent each time. I can not comment on the other items on the menu because I haven't tried any. I wish I knew about this place sooner because the crust is so good. I wouldn't recommend eating there, but take out only. This place is not esthetically pleasing aka a dive.
(5)Kyle H.
Stoped in Sano's (Frank's) Pizza in the lovely neighborhood of Mayfair, prior to the YelpSummerfest event. This is the kind of place that reminds me of pizza joints in New York City that provide great slices and friendly service from generation to generation. Slices are $2, pop is $1- so affordable. They deliver pies too! The dining area isn't very charming, but the atmosphere is jovial. A family that are regulars stopped in and Frank and the waitress picked up with them right where they last left off. The pizza was good, crust was excellent. I want to stop in sometime after work and try their egg and pepper sandwich and for those wondering if you're in their delivery area, I recommend calling to ask! This could be your new delivery go-to!
(4)Allison T.
We were desperate and starving on Saturday around midnight and living in the virtual food desert that is my 'hood there were limited late night eating options. Lucky for us, Sano's was still delivering, just barely given the hour. I was a little skeptical of what would come, but thought it couldn't be worse than the other options, Sarpino's, Little Cesar's, etc. We got a piping hot pizza delivered reasonably fast by a very friendly delivery guy who said it was the last delivery of the night. And there was an unexpected free liter of RC! The pizza itself was flavorful, and awesomely, the crust was not soggy. The ingredients seemed fresh and the pizza was perfectly cooked. I will definitely order again.
(4)Laura B.
Took two bites from a slice of my boyfriend's small thin-crust cheese take-out pizza. It lacked flavor. Wasn't impressed. Needs salt.
(3)NINOS S.
Great pizza. Great service. Looks like a family owned business. Support small biz.
(5)George V.
Sano's has outstanding pizza! I have ordered just about every pizza they make over the past 25 years and Frank has never let me down. The sauce is the key!
(5)Steve D.
The gold standard in Chicago pizza on the north side (real chicago square-cut pizza, not the deep dish tourist stuff.) The location is sketchy as all hell because of the seedy bar next door, but that's why God invented pick-up and delivery. The non-pizza part of the menu is pretty bad (one exception: the calzones). Still, if you are trying Sano's for the first time and not getting the pizza you are doing something seriously wrong. Highly recommended.
(5)James D.
We eat a lot of Pizza at our house and this one is our new fave. Location was clean and order was on time when we arrived for the pick up. Crust was nice and the cheese was bountiful.
(5)tom a.
Went to check this place out with fam after reading reviews. The pizza was great def going back.
(5)Stacy C.
My Mom's been ordering from here for as long as I can remember. When I moved out, I kept the tradition. Only ever having a problem once, and that was because they had a hard time finding our house and didn't happen to take our phone number down! (So make sure you give them your number if it's your first time ordering!) Other than that, we've always had fast deliveries and the pizza is always hot and delicious. This is the thin square-cut pizza that is cooked with all the ingredients UNDER a layer of cheese. Very tasty stuff! I recommend their pepperoni!

I've been living in the Mayfair community for almost two decade and never have I ever heard of Sano's pizza. Luckily, Tony had won a free large pizza from Sano's during our Karlov Block party three weeks ago. So we decided to put the coupon to use last night but was a bit skeptical about it because we've never heard of the place. Our order: Large cheese pizza (thin crust) Medium Italian beef pizza (thin crust) We had placed our order for delivery. The woman on the phone was very accommodating and nice. Our food came within 30 minutes. Oh my goodness, hands down this pizza is way better than marie's. I am truly not sorry for having to say that. Frank the owner and pizza maker truly knows what he's doing. Making real good pizza requires two things, simple ingredients and a pizza maker who knows his/her craft. Frank did not disappoint us at all. Our daughters love, love, love their cheese pizza. Tamia was literally savoring each bite of it and raving at how it had the perfect amount of cheese. The Italian beef pizza was awesome. Put some hot giardiniera on top and oh goodness, you got Italian beef sandwich in a pizza form. It's totally different but super good. Tony was a bit skeptical at first of the whole giardiniera on his pizza, he used Tabasco sauce on his first slice. I went ahead and place some on his second slice and he was hooked! My sister and her family came over and I introduced them to apply the same concept on their pizza slices and boy were they hooked! (** you can ask them for giardiniera on the side, we didn't order it because we had a jar of it at home). Sano's pizza is a great place to order pizza from whenever you are craving for pizza and are in the area or live in the area. The place is a small place near the currency exchange on Lawrence (near elston). I'm so glad we found a place to order pizza from because we tend to order at Villa Palermo but this place is closer to the house (3-5 mins away). Give Sano a try and say hi to Frank (you can't miss him the kitchen is right in the front of the store).
(4)Larz F.
Family owned for several decades. Great thin crust pizza which is becoming a lost art in Chicago. I love a great deep dish or wood fired pizza once in a while, but nothing beats the real Chicago cracker crust and this is it.
(5)Bob W.
Prior to moving to Texas 3 years ago, I lived in Chicago area for 39 years. I visit Chicago at least once a year and my first stop is the Wilson ave. exit and a trip to Sano's. There may be better pizzas in Chicago but Sano's is consistant, very well priced and it's always nice to talk to Frank. How many places do you know where the owner is the only one to do the cooking? There is no better pizza in the Elston Ave/ Lawrence Ave. area. Highly Recomended!
(5)Lillian F.
Based on the other reviews, ordered from here last night on the way home from work. Crust was OK, and I liked that the green pepper and sausage were REALLY fresh. The mushrooms were canned and the sauce was pretty bad - really sweet and also canned tasting. I love supporting a local, family owned joint, but we probably won't order from there again. It was pretty blah.
(2)James D.
best pizza in the neiborhood frank and his staff are very fiendly only wish they had more hours there closed on sundays
